Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

We find this place on our way to DE and were glad that we did! Three lunch special is a great deal: $7.77 for a wide selection of entree sized meals from the regular menu plus a soft drink. The chips and salsa were unlimited, which was great because both were fresh and delicious. Just the right amount of cilantro to chunky tomatoes.

I went here for dinner with my sister in law and nephews. They had an extensive menu, and a wide variety of drinks. My margarita was small, but surprisingly strong. The nachos were good, and my enchiladas were ok. Lots of cilantro in many dishes though, which wasn't mentioned on the menu. Would have been nice to know, since I think cilantro tastes like soap.

Great service, enjoyed lunch and food was fresh and delicious. Will definitely be back.

The food here is amazing. Reminds me of Puerto Vallarta. Great selection of Tequila.

Sombrero's sub-par Mexican Kitchen should be the name. Beginning with the frozen Mexican Egg rolls and the store-bought Tres Leches cake, the authenticity of this place is at best questionable. The tortillas are store bought, the rice and beans are not made fresh daily. The decor is cute but if you ever ask for an extra plate, or look closely at the drinking glasses and silverware, everything is just a little dirty. If you are looking to get sick, try the shrimp fajitas.

I love this place. I'm always on the search for good food and this place has it. The decor is nice and the place is very clean. The waitress was knowledgeable of the menu and pleasant personality. We ordered the carnitas tacos and the carnitas plate. The pork was tender and flavorful. Homemade salsa, corn tortillas, and yummy guacamole rounded out our experience. Will be going back

Real authentic Mexican Food. NEW Management has done a GREAT job! Great food and friendly service. Cinco De Mayo was the bomb. Best Happy Hour on the whole Island. (50 percent off all drinks 3 to 7pm everyday! You owe it to yourself to try Sombreros Mexican Kitchen. I'll be a regular from now on.

It was our second time here after an enjoyable first time. My husband, child and myself are all in bed with food poisoning after being up all night. The food tastes good but with this aftermath, we will not be returning.

I had the veggie tacos and yuca fries as an appetizer. My husband had the taco pastore (shredded pork with pineapple). Our food was delicious, the drinks were half the price that we normally pay, compared to other Mexican restaurants. The service was reasonably fast during happy hour. We loved the place and look forward to coming back. Kudos to the bartender for the great service.

I will say, for a place that serves typical American Mexican fare, their prices are amazing. Not only that they really took care if us. It was nice to have the lunch specials with drinks included and where you aren't being charged $2-$3 for a soft drink. Even though our waiter seemed overwhelmed by having four tables, he still tried his best to give good service.
(4)Andrew H.
We enjoyed two of the lunch specials both taco salads and very tasty. The garde margarita was disappointing though, for the cost I was expecting something either MUCH stronger or larger. Usually you order a large and it is potent i.e. our place in Chestertown Plaza Tapatia but not so much. The service was good and they do have coupons floating around. We will go back but not order from the bar again.

Great Food, Great Service, Wonderful Atmosphere. Friendly staff. Sometimes the review doesn't have to be long. Its simply put. Come here and they will take care of everything. Highly recommend. Josh

ate here two weeks ago with my family, atmosphere and food was great. I got the enchiladas with steak.. although the steak was cooked great that was the only thing inside of the enchilada so I was a little disappointed with that. My sister got a burrito .. great portions ... and my parents got a sandwich and wrap that were very delicious. Will come back again!
(4)Jason M.
Bottom Line: great food. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere. And not overly expensive. Our family has eaten here several times now. I generally get the same thing, the burrito, but we haven't been disappointed no matter what we've had. The salsa could use more flavor and spice but that is a very small complaint. Servers have always been very friendly and helpful. Food arrives quickly and well prepared.

First time here, place is cute and pretty clean. Chips and salsa were good. We ordered the Cuban sandwich, meat was dry, no flavor. Nacho chips in nachos appetizer were so over fried they were almost inedible. Disappointed with the food but the bartender was nice. Won't be back for food but maybe for beverages!
(2)Rob C.
Both the food and service can be quite spotty. Some days it's pretty good some it's not. Average Mexican joint food wise. The bar area claims a large tequila selection.
(3)Marc L.
The Carnitas here now are awesome ! They went through a couple different styles but now they've gotten it right !
(5)Katelyn K.
Happy hour- appetizers half off. Besides that just some average Mexican food. I asked our waiter what his favorite thing on the menu and for any recommendations and he told me the only thing he likes is nachos... So I got some sausage and rice dish and it looked like dog food. My boyfriend was happy with his fajitas
(2)JB G.
A bright and cheery atmosphere with fast service and good food! Had the shrimp a la diablo and it was yummy. It was spicy, but I expected that from the name.
(4)Cecilia N.
Really nice first visit. My husband and I were passing through the area and stopped in for lunch. Close to highway. Salsa and tortilla chips were very good. Tacos and Cubana sandwich were delicious. Soda tasted out of the can. Looks like a good place for kids. Service was friendly and quick. Restrooms were clean. We'll stop in again.
(4)Jason O.
Pretty good for an east coast Mexican restaurant. Shrimp ceviche cocktail was very good (better than most New Mexican restaurants). Their meat is marinated perfectly in the carne asada tacos. Taquitos appetizer was great and pretty much a meal in itself.
(4)Mike R.
Alright, so they have definitely upped their food quality. I was in last night to enjoy the amazing all day every day happy hour they have which is 50% off or buy one get one, whatever you want to call it, which is the best in the area, hands down. I got the chili relleno, which was spot on, Their salsa is no longer like my initial review, it is fresh and delicious. They will be moving a few doors down in the coming months to a much larger area which will be a major plus. Give 'em a try ahain.
(4)Stacie K.
I had the veggie tacos and was very impressed, very, could used a 3rd taco. I don't drink, but 50% off alcohol is fantastic price! Don had the Grande Nachos they were amazing!

Every once in a while our family needs to eat out and as 90% practicing vegan, that limits the field somewhat. However, we have found that we can cheat a little when it comes to Mexican restaurants. Although everything is salty and there is still fried goodness, you can still eat moderately healthy. So this place is situated in a strip mall that is old in terms of Kent Island history. I a not certain, but I think this place occupies the same space that Gil Dunn Pharmacy used to be. I only mention this because I used to like going t Gil Dunn pharmacy and looking at all the historical artifacts of local baseball hero Jimmie Foxx that were on display there. I now wonder where all those stuff went off to. I hope that I got all the historical stuff correct. Back to the restaurant. The ambiance is typical fare, lots of neon, streamers, cerveza ads, TVs plaster the wall. You walk directly into the bar and then move into a large dining room. Our waitress was brand new, brought out the complimentary chips and salsa, which we devoured in seconds, and she quickly brought out another bowls. Waters were topped off without prompting and it seemed that our waitress was a veteran in disguise. I ordered a taco salad, my wife a veggie fajita, and I think my son got some sort of burrito. The fajita came out sizzling and was a lot of food for just my wife. My taco salad was very large also. No complaints about the portions and all of the food was tasty. Tough to mess up Mexican food, but I guess that it can happen. As always, my son gives me the grade for the bathroom and he didn't like it. He gave it a three star. I asked him why and the answers are always a treat. He said that he didn't like that he couldn't use the urinal because it was positioned too high (he was right). He did like that the stall door went all the way to the ground (which could stop someone from crawling under...hahaha). He doesn't like to touch fixtures in the bathroom, so he didn't like that they didn't have an automatic water faucet or towel dispenser. My wife also said that they had some sort of weird mirror in the womens bathroom and I was wondering if it was the creepy two way mirror that I saw on the back wall. I didn't ask. Overall, good experience and I am always happy when I see something fairly decent on Kent Island and a good use of the retail space, vice sitting vacant and ready to get tagged with spray paint.

Service was excellent. Staff was quick to seat us, and the waiter was very attentive. The food was fresh and the carnitas taco tasted delicious with a cold tamarindo Jarito. The pork was tender and tasty when drizzled with some lime. The salsa could have used a tad bit less garlic but other than that everything was great. The outside of the building doesn't look like much, but once inside it is a completely different ballpark. The colors really stood out and so did the bright sombreros on the walls. The bar, with its attentive staff and large TVs, was a happening scene with the locals. Definitely a worthy stop.

I don't live on the Eastern Shore full time... I'm purely a weekender over the summer, and usually when we're down here and we want to go out, it's the Jetty or Annie's. However, my entire family decided to spend an entire week down here, and I've wanted to try this place for a long time, so we all went out for some rainy night margs and Mexican food. First off, this place is in a mostly unoccupied strip mall, so it's hard to miss except for the bajillion cars parked outside of this tiny place around dinner. The inside is warm and cozy, if a little bit small. Definitely warm and inviting with cool decor pieces and a tiny little bar. Everyone is nice too. EVERYONE. And talkative and knowledgable about all sorts of dishes and drinks. I'm talking hostess, waitresses, manager, bartender, bussers. I haven't been in a restaurant where everyone made me feel that comfortable in FOREVER. The food was really, really excellent. Everything tasted home made, everything had a unique flavor, and everything was hot... This was impressive because everything came out quickly! I had a carnitas burrito and it was pretty phenomenal. The pork was pleasantly crispy while still being moist, and had a great spicy flavor without overwhelming the pork. The sauce on the burrito was amazing and you could cut it with a fork. The refried beans had some crumbled queso fresco on them, which was a nice touch, and the rice was fresh and tasty if a little basic. My SO had the chicken enchiladas which were tasty as well. We also had the beef nachos which were very very good; I just wish there was more! 6 people could not share them, but they would've made a decent entree or a good app for 2-3. Drinks and apps are all half priced during happy hour, which is amazing. Can't wait to come back!!!

We eat here about once a month. Everything is fine. Nothing is marvelous. Typical Mexican joint. Prices are average. Servers are very friendly, so there is that!!!!

Unexpected great meal! This is a very non-descript looking restaurant in a strip mall, but convenient to Rt 50 after crossing the Bridge. We had a great meal - the pork carnitos and beef fajitas were delicious. They had a wide range of beers and mixed drinks. Since we were driving to the beach, we couldn't sample, but the bar was very active and busy. They served portions so large that we each took part of our dinner home. The service was friendly and prompt, and the restaurant was clean and attractive. We will be back!

Didn't go in thinking this was going to be a 5 star review. You know mind set random mexican restaurant probably a 3. But I was surprised and very happy with the food. I ate the fiesta fajitas which is a mix of everything chicken steak shrimp and pork. It was absolutely amazing. Some of the best fajitas I had. I also got a good portion size so I shared around and was able to try some chicken tacos and beef enchiladas. Just so impressed with the food. I didn't try the margaritas so I will save that review for next time I go.

Driving by and figured we would try this place, looked packed with car and people from a distance. The wait was short, for a Friday night, a nice positive. The menus and drinks were quick, waitress was nice a polite. I stated "this is our first time, what do you suggest" she suggested the entire menu (usually an indicator to me the employee don't really have a favorite thing or the food is basic) Ordered the Chicken Toquitos(app), Fiesta Chicken Salad, and Carna Asada for our meal ... plus sangria and a margarita to drink. Drink were decent, could use a bit more liquor. The salsa and chips was a bit bland, the salsa had no spice. A touch of salt and hot sauce fixed it. The salad was a nice hearty portion, plenty of chicken too. The Carna Asada had a good flavor, but looked like cheap skirt stake. The flavor had a bit too much of a lime taste for me. Over a nice place, worth a second visit.

Loved it!! We were looking for a nice place to get a quick bite to eat on the way home from the beach and I don't think we could have picked a better place! We had two vegan diners with us and the menu labels a few vegetarian options for them. They had all the classic Mexican dishes and even more exciting specials. I had the carnitas dish with a fresh salad, choice of beans, and rice. It was amazing! Among the other orders at the table were the chicken tortilla soup, chicken quesadilla, tortilla salad bowl, and super tacos! Everything came out quick, hot and fresh! The restaurant was very colorful and nicely decorated with a large bar and even a small arcade in the back. Definitely worth the stop!

my husband and i enjoyed a delicious meal here while vacationing on the island. the food...delicious. the staff...welcoming and delightful (kudos to courtney!). met the owner and his young son also...a future football player in the making. we had the nachos, one of the combo plates, and steak fajitas. nachos had a good balance of chips to toppings. combo plate had 1/2 a quesidilla, 1 taco (with an option for 2), 1 enchilada, and a choice of sides. all portions are generously sized, and great for sharing or taking home to enjoy later. the restaurant itself is spacious, the bar area with high tops is a nice place to sit, and the tables are nicely spaced with plenty of room for elbows. they have a nice selection of tequila, "honest" margaritas, and a varity of jaritos as well. we will return!

My husband and I had dinner here for the first time this week and had a great experience. Service was extremely friendly, food arrived hot and fast, and was very tasty. We will certainly be back.

Took our son here on his 10th Birthday. Unfortunately we had to go elsewhere because the (1) server was overwhelmed. First thing that happened was we waited 10 minutes for menus and did not get children's menus. Our server arrived right after the bus boy delivered menus apologizing for the wait and said "you must be ready to order". Unfortunately we hadn't had time to look at the menu or been given kids menus. We then ordered drinks that were brought back to is wrong twice. The correct drinks were never even brought out and after waiting another. 10 minutes we left the same way the table across from us did to find someplace else to eat!

After a pleasant first visit, I decided to try Sombrero again with some co-workers. The margaritas are strong and there is a wide variety. My personal favorite is the peach. However, at this most recent trip, everyone who ordered a chicken dish found bones (not gristle, but full BONES) in their dishes. When we mentioned it to the waitress, she asked if we wanted replacement meals, which we declined. She said she would "take care of us" and talk to her kitchen, as well. No reflection of being "taken care of" was on the bill. Additionally, our table of 8 was charged a 25% automatic gratuity. I understand the need for doing this, but I think that 25% is quite excessive. I probably won't be back, which is a shame, because what I've had is good. But finding chicken bone joints in my quesadilla pretty much ruined it.

Our new favorite Mexican Restaurant. Best Mexican food I have eaten on the Eastern Shore. The house and Strawberry Margaritas were outstanding. We got the fish and De Carne Asada tacos. They were out of this world good. The Mexican rice was cooked perfectly too. I am not usually much of a black beans or refried beans person but both were also very good. For dessert we shared the Tres Leche which was melt-in-your-mouth good! The price was very reasonable considering the amount of food you get. Drinks are half price between 3-6 PM too. The décor is very bright and colorful but still tasteful and fun. Our server, Veronica, seemed like a family friend who we had known for years and waited on us like we were eating at her house! We can't wait to go back and try more of their large menu.

The food is amazing! They are family friendly (I have an 11 month old). And the atmosphere is laid back and enjoyable. Best Mexican food on kent island for sure!!!

Sombreros, great environment, wonderful waitstaff, horrible food. I don't really even know where to start. First of all let me say the waitstaff was good, our waitress was very nice and helpful. Those are the last of my compliments. I headed there this evening with my family, they live near there, so I went out of my comfort zone to try a new mexican place. We were served chips and salsa to begin, the chips were nice and crisp, the salsa was mild in flavor but didn't taste home made or anything. We ordered Yucca fries for our appetizer, they were also alright. For my main entree I ordered the chicken chimichangas and my parents ordered the cadillac fajitas. This is where the story takes a very sad turn. Our chimichanga came out absolutely soft. I would be surprised if it was fried at all (I'll bring this up again later). It was covered in a plain canned tomato sauce and then covered furthur in cheddar cheese. The fajitas were brought to us hot but it tasted as though the shrimp had liquid smoke on it, which also was very unpleasant. My parents ate their fajitas, avoiding the shrimp, however as i was eating my chimichanga the texture was so underwhelming and after I saw there was a mix of shredded and ground chicken with beans and rice inside I was done, this was no chimichanga, but a burrito in disguise.. I very politely told the waitress my meal wasn't good and she gladly took it back and asked if I wanted anything else. At this point I was scared to try anything so I just ordered flan. The flan was fine in taste but entirely missed the mark on texture. It was curdled and uninspired. It was also odd that it was brought out very americanized with cool whip, drizzled chocolate and strawberries. My parents ordered the tres leches cake which in itself was abysmal. It was obviously store bought and wasn't a tres leches cake at all. Instead it was some kind of cake with a cheesecake like topping. Again, really disappointed. We expressed our concerns to the waitress and apologized that we were sending something else back. She was very kind and offered to get the manager. The manager/ or owner, I don't know as he didn't introduce himself, came out to explain that the chimichanga was soft because of the tomatoe sauce and cheese that was on it. He said he took it off, as well as the flan. He was obviously getting very defensive. I just told him if it was my restaurant I would want to know if a guest wasn't pleased and try to get them back in to try again. He again, offered his apologies, but that was it. In conclusion, I will not be returning here, ever. After eating here I was seriously thinking Taco Bell would have been a better choice.

The service was excellent! Beyond excellent - Tyler was our waiter and our service could not have been better. The decor was bright and cheerful and very clean. And the food - the food was great - good guacamole, great chips, the chile relleno was superb as were the carne asada tacos. We are from So. Cal. and know our Mexican food - this definitely made the grade!
