Hands down the best local seafood restaurant in southern Maryland! We have been to all the local spots for 20+ years and this tops them all. Very large shrimp, plump crab cakes packed with meat, a crab dip that has the perfect combo of crab, cheese, and warm homemade bread bowl. Get the sweet potato fries if only for the cinnamon butter sauce that comes on the side. Service is friendly and fast, mix drinks are pretty good too, reasonable prices.

The food here is excellent! Really on par! Any time I go visit family in Leonardtown, we take a trip here. The fried shrimp is to die for; large, juicy and great flavor! Their crab dip is also very good. The only reason they don't get all 5 stars from me is because they are, as many others have said, quite slow.

This is a great seafood joint. The fried jumbo shrimps are my favorite! The crabs are delicious and full of flavor. Great service!!! We're going to make this a regular thing.

Outstanding food!!! Must eat in Southern Maryland. Cream of crab soup is outstanding.

Food very good but service is slow! If you have a lot of time, I would recommend this place!

My friend and I stopped here for a good seafood dinner. We were not disappointed. The crab legs were fantastic. I had pink lobster tail for the first time and it was the best lobster tail I have ever had. Delicious food.

Unreliable service hours and false advertising . I called Captain Leonard's Seafood and asked what time they closed and I was told 8:30 pm; there was no indication that they had different hours for the kitchen and closing. I traveled 54 miles to get to their location and at 7:55 pm I was told that their kitchen was closed because they did not see the need to stay open because they did not have many customers. This is unreliable and unacceptable. I know many folks in the restaurant service industry and what I was told was that in that situation you keep one cook and one server and send the others home, but at least do what you say you would do. Also, I contacted another seafood restaurant nearby and I was told that if we say we close at a particular time, so does our kitchen. If you get in by that time, we will serve you. He even gave me an example, he said right now we are closed, but we have several patrons still eating. Now I would prefer to go to this establishment instead of the other one because they are reliable. It is not good business practice to close when you feel like it regardless of what time you post you close. All you do is waste customers time, money and energy.

"The things I like about southern Maryland" is one of my shortest lists. Still short, but today a little less short. Wife and I were hungry and stopped on a hunch, nothing else. Good decision. Excellent crab balls as appetizer. My wife very much liked the soft shell crab sandwich, and trust me she knows a good soft shell crab. I expected the fish & chips basket to be ordinary, but it was EXCELLENT. Good grief the iced tea was good too! We shared a pretty good piece of lemon meringue pie. This is food preparation that can't be rushed, and it is well worth waiting for. It's not "fast food" folks! But don't worry, the service is not slow. Relax, visit with your companion(s), be cheerful to the wait staff, and best of all know how tasty a meal can be, and leave with a full and happy stomach.

This is my go to seafood place, have tried many others in the area but this is where I always keep coming back to. They keep it fresh here, the soups ate awesome. You can get oysters on the half shell or fried when they are in season. Steamed crabs are the best. They have steamed or fried meals, with a little of everything for everyone. There are burgers for those not on for seafood. Desserts a very good if you are still hungry after you address done eating. Nice family friendly place to eat!

We have come here several times. Tonight the food was amazing, but the service completely horrible. I was shocked to see the added 20% gratuity. Normally I tip 20 % but the service was nowhere near that quality.

This is a must try seafood restaurant if you are in the area, they have the best cream of Crab soup and crab legs ever in the county and my son had the hard crabs he said they were very meaty and had a great taste! The atmosphere is very friendly and laid back unless your there on a busy night then you will see the staff hustling and working together as a unit......We have been there several times and our 2 favorite waitress are Sheryl and Alicia ask for one them on your next visit you will not be disappointed.

Good fried oysters, cream of crab soup and fried shrimp. The crab cake was good, but not the best I've ever had. All of the food was very fresh tasting, including the cole slaw. I've been passing this place for over twenty years and am just now (October 2013) trying it because some friends recommended it. It looks like a liquor store/carry out from the outside, but is pretty inviting and clean inside. The atmosphere is crowded, beachy/casual with brown paper covering the tables for eating hard crabs. The service was good and our waitress was friendly. What's not to like!

Food is wonderful, prices are excellent. The only problem is the slowwwwwww service. Really slow. Remarkably slow. And servers wearing flip flops -- I don't get it. We have come back for the crab pretzel which is fabulous and for the crab cakes, but we know in advance we will be annoyed by the service. Not sure we'll keep coming back.

Popped in to get a little sea food with the wife and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. Being from Maryland I've got high expectations for sea food and this place didn't disappoint. The cream of crab soup was amazing. Their french fries and hush puppies were amazing. We got a half dozen crabs and they were awesome as well. Next time I go I'm going to have to try the soft shell crab.

Food is really good. Never had a bad meal, however, be prepared for a very crowded atmosphere and pretty horrendous service. Definitely need additional servers as really slow. And on top of that they add 20% gratuity.

Just had a great meal here - oyster stew was very good, fried oysters were nice and light, crab cakes were large and full of crab.

Best place to get crabs. Still pricey, but no more than the rest of the joints around. Used to stay in Lexington Park. Now I make the trip.

Fantastic! Stopped here for a random lunch passing through town. Biggest fattest non filler crab cakes that rivals Woodys famous ones in Dewey Beach DE. The crab soup was delicious. Cool restaurant with take out seafood and liquor and outstanding crab!
