Service was horrible!! Crab dip came out cold, and we asked for it to be heated up-- took 35 minutes before a new one! Wait time was quoted at 30-45 minutes, and after 75 mins we had to ask if they had forgotten us. Finally got a table. Food was okay, bathrooms were filthy, and dessert came out prepared wrong. NOT coming back!!

Service, burgers,beer...all top notch. They have Troegs on draught!

Great new restaurant filling a real niche! Food was excellent (don't miss the crab cake!) and a great selection of craft beers being maintained at the highest standards. Service was ver good too. Our server was stopping by regularly, and both the manager and owner came by to see if everything was ok. This was my first visit, but my wife's third. She commented on their consistency. We like the Devore and felt that while the prices were not cheap, they were fair. The pricing reflects the freshness of the food and the use of wood fire for grilling. Save room for dessert, because they make them all in house daily. In an age when most restaurants and certainly all the chains are preparing factory made frozen foods that are trucked in, Madrones is a big breath of fresh air!

We had dinner at Madrones friday evening and it was by far one of the best meals I have had lately. The prime rib was perfect and the salmon my husband ordered was awesome! We can't wait to go back!

Ate here a few weeks ago. We had three dishes including wings and a goat cheese and dried cranberry salad. Everything was very tasty. The beer list was outstanding. The service was adequate but could use some polish. Overall a good experience but for the price I expect a it more.

One of the best french dip sandwiches I have ever eaten! They slice a portion of the prime rib made daily for this sandwich. It runs out quickly. Amazing sandwich. The fries were very good as well. The draft microbrew selection is very good, including Troeg as a standard selection. With a very modern, large open bar area this is soon to become my favorite place in Frederick!

The interior is beautiful, even though a bit too dark. We (2 people) ordered an appetizer that was enough for 6 people. My partner got a burger and I got the rockfish special. The burger was good, nothing outstanding. The fish was old...very fishy tasting and off-putting. Everything is salted to the max. I could not even eat more than one piece of my asparagus side dish because it was so salty I couldn't stomach it. Beer choices are great, but the food makes it not worth revisiting. Our waitress was great, which was the only bright spot.

Great ambiance and smell of hickory! The bar is nice with several TVs for game day. I've been there several times. The hostess and servers are excellent. Their food quality and portion was generous for the price. You will not leave the place hungry. This place is owned by the same owner of Jaspers. I do not have much to say because I am 110% happy with this restaurant. This is a GREAT local restaurant as I am coming back soon!

I have been reading some of the previous posts and don't know why they are so low. This place is great! My family's first experience (about a month ago) was good, although the service was a little slow. We figured out that it MUST have been because it was a Saturday night. On a positive note that night, we were told the wait for a table would be 60-90 minutes....and it was only 35 minutes!. Everything we have tried on the menu has been really tasty and enjoyable. We find the crab dip and spinach/artichoke dip to be our favorites....but they need to bring more chips and bread with them (:). Try the crab "bomb" or prime rib....they're great! If you're in the mood for something a little less pricey, try the hamburgers....they are very juicy and tasty. For desert, try the cookie sundae......it's enough for 3 of us.

Outstanding meal tonight! Absolutely beautiful new restaurant with an enormous all granite bar facing the open kitchen that cooks many of it's entrees over a hickory wood grill. Wonderful and attentive service that started us with the tuna tataki that was layered with a delicious seaweed salad and topped with jumbo lump crab served with a soy mirin sauce. It was stellar! My main entree was the baked stuffed shrimp served under lump crab imperial and again- another stellar dish. I did opt for the chop side salad and glad I did. The chop salad was the perfect size and everything I would expect a chop salad to be, YUM. Madrones is one of those great restaurants that a great and diversified menu along with some great high end beers on tap and 100 by the bottle. Looking forward to returning and trying some of the other great options. Highly recommend.

Atmosphere and service were good. Not many people but it was a Saturday afternoon. Lets cut to the chase. My first complaint is how do u offer BUFFALO wings with no blue cheese? It comes with a creamy Italian -not good. And the chicken itself had no flavor. My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich, flavorless as well. And the place smells like a campfire. Not to return.

Wife and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary tonight. The beef carpaccio was fantastic, wife had the pork chop and I had the rockfish special. Both were absolutely fantastic, and service was attentive. I would recommend to anyone.

When they first opened Hubby and I went. The fall off the rib's were more like pull off the bone. My teeth hurt lol...We gave it a second shot today. My filet mignon had fat in the middle, was burnt and tasteless. The spinach and artichoke dip was good though, They didn't carry even a cheap version of my pinot grigo. When I ordered Pinot Gris, I got Pinot Noir.... My Cesar salad had sun dried tom. in it and I guess they were running out of dressing cuz I got none ....Hubby had the chopped salad and two pieces of corn in that...Hubby and I are foodies in Frederick, but we are fair...Personally, We won't be back, should have gone to Coal Fire Pizza instead, at least there we know what to expect.

Shrimp and zucchini appetizer was great. Of the four of us we all ordered something different: salad, chicken sandwich, pasta dish, and jambalaya. They were all very good. Portions were large. Definitely plan on returning.

My girlfriend went here with coworkers and brought home her leftover turkey, avacado, and bacon sandwich and gave me a bite, delicious, i was intrigued. I went there with a coworker for lunch a few days later and loved the atmosphere, the bar area looked nice, and the open kitchen concept i thought was awesome, i could see the smoke and the sparks flying around back there as they were cooking what i assumed was the hickory burgers. i had read rave reviews about the burgers so i was set and got myself a bacon cheeseburger and my buddy got the nancy's lunch - lunch special and we were both very happy. the burger was fresh, real meat, not a bs patty, it wasnt over compressed and tasted delicious, if they develop a good blue cheese sauce they will definitely have the edge on Wags in downtown frederick for a bacon blue burger, it also came with fries that were crispy and thin so they are no overly potato-y? anyway, very good. My coworker said his meal was delicious, he first boasted about the side salad and the dressing and said that the soup and the half sandwich were also extremely tasty, what we each got here for $10-11 at lunch time was 5 star vs some of the pizza joints etc around our place of work that selll a mediocre version of the same. We do lunch on fridays at each others expense so we will be back for sure, i will also be sure to come here with my girlfriend, love this place....it has a good feel.

Finally getting my Yelp on! My wife and I had dinner at Madrones Memorial Day Weekend. We started with the fried calamari, which was fantastic. I had the fish tacos as my entree, and my wife had a portobello mushroom entrée, the name of which escapes me. The meal was very good and our server was exceptional. Highly recommend Madrones, but be prepared to wait for a table. It's definitely a popular spot.

We stopped in last night after our sons soccer game. Were seated right away, service was good, portions for meals/pricing were very nice. Daughter ordered burger with fruit cup, the fruit cup was canned pineapple. I ordered salmon with mashed potatoes and veggies, the entire entree came out with terraki sauce on everything, I could not finish the meal because the taste profiles got tiring. Wished the sides were not covered in sauce from the fish. It did seem to take a long time to get our food, but I just figured that was because it was a new place. We will come back again.

The service was really horrible... simple requests were denied, food orders were cooked wrong, sent back and then returned wrong... Some diners had their steaks prepared correctly while others had a gristle-riddled mess... We were a large group of 14 people celebrating a birthday and the server admitted that this was his first time waiting on a large group... and did it ever show... Everything was very slow and it took almost 3 hours to complete dinner... What made it even more frustrating was that the restaurant was almost empty, and the servers were standing around looking at each other confused and befuddled... the waiter even had to get help opening a wine bottle? Are you kidding me? The manager was very apologetic about the multitude of service errors, and comped a steak meal to the most abused of our party... but i wish the manger focused his energy on training his incompetent staff and less time apologizing... did i mention the service was horrible? i have had decent experiences there in the past... but i will not go to the restaurant again with a large party ever again... and i'm debating if i'll go back at all after the fiasco last night...

I go here for the burgers. I have had several other sandwiches and entrees but was not impressed. The wait staff i have had are friendly. One of the managers was totally unprofessional. After waiting 45 min. for dinner on a slow night and food cooked incorrectly, we asked for the manager. He arrived 10 minutes later and said, "is there a problem?" He did not acknowledge the issues, never appologized.... I would have fired this guy on the spot if i were the GM. I still would go back for the burgers and hope they get the kinks worked out in time.

Not bad. Enjoyed the ribeye, however it was over-cooked. mom got burger. asked for their house-made mustard that they advertise on menu and they brought out what tasted like yellow french's. ice cream cookie sundae could have been better...cookie was not warm.

This was my first visit to Madrones. I was touring the historic district of Frederick and this restaurant is only about 10 minutes away. My selection for dinner was the Asian salmon, and I was quite pleased that was my choice. Without question, it was one of the best salmon dishes I had in quite a long time. Delicate, not dry, very tasty and an ample portion. Madrones is open seven days for lunch and dinner. Seating for about 250, it is bigger than it first appears. And it is casual. Sunday Brunch goes from 10 to 2. And, this is important to me, it is locally owned. That usually means an owner is there at all times looking things over. If you like beer you can select from about 24 craft beers. In the winter, you can dine next to a real fireplace. I'm told for my next visit I simply must try one of their burgers. Go to madrones.net or 240-439-4010. Eddie Applefeld

There's lots to like about Madrones and one sticking point that gets on my nerves every time we go. I'll start with the good. The food generally exceeds my expectations. The ingredients are fresh, the prices are reasonable for what you get, and everything is prepared well. I especially think the Ribeye is an excellent cut of meat, prepared deliciously, and a really good value. The beer list is fantastic, and they really take their beer seriously. Many of my favorites craft beers are on draft, and are all served properly. Stouts, Porters, IPAs, etc are all in their proper glasses, and the kegs are fresh. I also enjoy the lively atmosphere and good service. With all that said there is one thing that they really drop the ball on. The wine pours are absolutely pathetic. I understand the need to control servings and a popular way to do this is pouring wine into little measured carafes and then into glasses. The measured pour at Madrones are about 3-3.5oz or so. When I'm paying $11.00/glass, that is unacceptable! Also, every wine, even Zins and Cabs are poured into thin white wine glasses. This is weird as they must have 7 different kinds of beer glasses. Actually, I think the reason they do this is that if you were to pour their paltry servings into a red wine glass it would look absolutely comical. This is really unfortunate as their wine list is fairly well thought out. It's not upscale by any means, but there are some excellent affordable choices. I would suggest never ordering wine at Madrones unless your ordering a bottle. Overall, I really like the place, but every time I order wine I feel ripped off, and that makes me not want to return. Hopefully someone will read this and make a change. It's a shame that they get so many things right and something so important, so wrong!

My wife and I LOVE this restaurant! What a great addition to the already diverse culinary options Frederick MD has to offer! Originality, high quality, and a GREAT bar, are just some of the reasons to eat there. The only thing that keeps my review from 5 stars is that we wish they would change up their menu more often, with more specials, and seasonal additions to the menu, like some of the other high end restaurants in the city. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! ~K

We had call ahead and seated right away on a Friday night. Service was really good. The food was pretty good. I had ribs which are average. Another had drunken rib eye which he loved. I tasted it and thought bit less of it. Another had bourbon chicken and really enjoyed. Last in our party had hamburger and said was really good from fresh ground beef. We had excellent drinks as well. Mixed and craft beer. Appetizers were good also having the tuna and sirachi sliders. For the category of restaurant this is, it was good, but slightly pricey.

Friends took us here for dinner last week and we had a lovely time. The ambiance is fantastic, and they seem to attract a demographic that is on par with our group - 30 something professionals rather than college kids or young families. It might be different at other times in the week, but this was Friday night. There was a 40 minute wait at 6:30 which was no big deal because there were seats available at the bar for pre-dinner drinks. The bartenders know their stuff; I ordered a couple of very specific cocktails that were perfectly prepared without hesitation. The food was delicious and the pace of the meal was perfectly timed. The only thing missing was a bread basket. I'm not sure if they offer one here before a meal but I have seen other Yelpers post pictures of a bread basket.

Consistently good quality with occasional flops... The Double-Cut Mongolian Pork Chop entree is wonderful - garlic mashed potatoes and sweet and sour red cabbage go deliciously well with the medium pork chop. The chop is good size and the meal is quite big. The only problem is consistency: I ordered this twice - second time because the first time was so amazing. The pork chop came out over grilled with spots that I had to cut off, because they were inedible, before finally sending the whole dish back. So, watch out, when executed well, this dish is delicious. Tuna Tataki has this amazing wasabi-based light dressing that's creamy and delicious. The seaweed salad is a perfect take on making this take on Tataki different from what you typically find in restaurants. I am not too sure about the lump crab - I do not think it adds very much flavor or complements the rest of the components. Goat Cheese Brûlée dip is very delicious, although you have to be the one who likes garlic, goat cheese and balsamic flavors. I love their French Sliders - but again if you do not like truffle flavor, then the truffle aioli, which in my opinion makes this appetizer so special, might be a turn off. Chicago Style Spinach and Artichoke Dip is a very classic take on a classic appetizer - delicious and one cannot go wrong with it. Fried Calamari - I only had them once, and followed sending this appetizer back with the following feedback: too salty, calamari bits were so thin - you could mistake them for onion rings, the breeding was very thick and salty. Overall, as much as I love fried calamari, this was just impossible to eat. Asian Salmon is a very tasty, fairly healthy option. Maybe it has just a bit too much mashed potato and the last time I ordered it I felt that the teriyaki sauce was a bit on the sweeter side and it kind of overshadowed the salmon flavor and the fresh sautéed veggies. Overall, a good seafood entree you cannot go wrong with. I've also tried the Hickory Burger and Filet Mignon - both are delicious well-designed entrees with balanced good flavors that you cannot go wrong with.

I ate here once about a year and a half ago and wasn't impressed. Recently decided to try it again on a whim and WOW, everything was AMAZING! The order was all carry out for 5 people. 2 of us got the blackened salmon served on top of the kale salad, one of us got the bacon cheeseburger, 1 of us got the cajun pasta, and one of us just got desert. We all loved our food. Really made me consider trying this restaurant again and adding it to the list of places we frequent. Salmon salad was THAT good!!! Fish was cooked to a perfect medium!

This is another place that I put in the category of 'style before food'. Its a nice place inside, perhaps a little cliche, but its not really bad. Cozy in some respects if you are seating in the right place. I get the feeling that the intention was for this to be a place where people would gather for dinner and drinks, more focused on socialization, than for quiet dining. The food wasn't bad. I have been there on multiple occasions, and have tried several of the dishes that caught my attention. My biggest disappointment though is the lack of consistency. A perfectly prepared burger one night becomes a scorched and burnt burger the next. And not just well done, but just plain wrong. I was shocked it would have been allowed out of the kitchen. Salads that were fresh one day, are wilted the next, etc. etc. if you are looking for a place to meet with friends, have some drinks, and a bite to eat that went beyond pub fare, this would be a bad choice. If you are looking for a more cozy, quiet dining experience, you may find yourself disappointed. On a good night, I would probably give them four stars, but based on the inconsistency, three is the best I can manage.

I'm eating my own homemade fish tacos, but craving Madrones. Man, oh man, those things are fabulous! Go during happy hour to get two for five bucks and some change. Also, if you're there during happy hour, try a margarita. They make theirs proper- more sour than sweet! Service is great. The ambience is low-key and cool. A perfect place for meeting up with friends and gossiping over drinks.

Madrones offers a very relaxed and sporty vibe while remaining an upscale restaurant and country like decor. Food is priced very well and the menu has a lot to offer. When I went a few weeks ago I got the drunken ribeye (medium rare) and my date had the French Dip Au Jus Sandwich, both of which were delicious. The ribeye had little fat, it was thick and juicy. Hands down, one of the best steaks I've had. You can really taste the hickory and beer if you're into that sort of thing. It came with a buttered baked potato and sour cream, but that wasn't anything special (then again I'm not sure if I've ever had an amazing baked potato). The service was fantastic and extremely fast! It was an enjoyable hour and a half. Other notes, the booths are comfy, dimly lit, and tvs can be viewed by most tables. Not too overwhelming though. I'll definitely be coming back!

I went to Madrones this weekend for the first time and to be honest I wasn't really impressed . The service wasn't the best at all and the food was just kinda blah. I had the drunken Rib eye which to me was a basically a failed attempt of the Hawaiian Rib Eye sold at Woodmont Grill in Bethesda I also got the seafood Explosion to go and it was overly salty . This place is OK but I don't understand why it received such great reviews.

I really don't like how the name doesn't resonate with the food... I mean when people kept telling me about "Madrone's" I'm just like, "blah, sounds like another franchise tex mex." I couldn't be anymore wrong..... Have I really waited 2 years to try madrone's??? What the??? "That's what I get," is all I thought as I scarfed down my prime rib..... So let's start with the bread and butter, DELICIOUS. Warm rolls with whipped honey/vanilla butter? Does carbs get any better than that??? Nope, didn't think so. Next, the fried calamari topped with Vidalia onion strings.... Amaze-balls.. There could've been way more calamari though, still good. I ordered the prime rib, BEST PIECE OF MEAT IVE EVER HAD. Yes, BEST. The prime rib literally MELTED as I greedily inhaled it.... Forget the Au Jus, the steak alone was divine. Paired with their loaded baked potato and I am in glutton heaven. On another occasion I had the spicy shrimp and grits which, although different from what I'm accustomed to... Was divine as well. The andouille could've been less dry but what the heck, the flavors and textures worked so well. Please try the peanut butter pie, it is HEAVENLY. The chef needs a standing ovation for all the wonderful food. I went back two nights in a row, and that's not going to be the last of it!

Food was great! I had the Penne Rustica and the chicken on the dish was so tender and juicy! Although I did end up having a piece of plastic in my food, it was still great! Sat at the bar and you get a great view of the restaurant and the kitchen which is open to the dining room! Great selection of wines and beers. I had the Coronas Tempranillo which was perfect. They also have a great selection of martinis on their drink menu. bartender was very nice and polite. When I mentioned the piece of plastic in my food, he apologized and went to tell someone back in the kitchen. No one ever approached me for it, but the whole hour or so I was there it looked like the manager was sitting at a booth in the bar talking with a friend having food and drinks. Luckily I will return for the food and great wine, but the management might want to make an effort to talk to tables more.

When this place first opened, we LOVED it! I've tried quite a few dishes and I loved them all. The decor is beautiful and we overall had great experiences, never had an issue with service.. Up until the previous two experiences .. 1st bad experience: we went in and got seated.. Restaurant was not super busy.. Waitress came over got our drink order and food order.. Everything was fine. I can't remember what my husband ordered but I ordered the evil jungle which I had before and LOVED .. Anyway we received our food and I started eating my salad but then cut into the steak and ate it.. It didn't quite taste right so I thought maybe it was undercooked? Even though I love my steak medium rare.. I'm not sure I can't quite put my finger on what was wrong so .. I waited for the waitress to come back and was going to ask if I could get it cooked a bit more.. She was nowhere in sight .. By the time we saw her again my husband was halfway through his meal.. So I just asked her if I could get it cooked more and she took my plate and ran off.. Another server brought me back my plate and it looked better, I took a bite and it just still didn't taste right.. Maybe spoiled meat? I don't know so the waitress never came back to ask if my food was better or to get refills or anything at all .. We never even saw her walking around so we flagged down another server and asked him to find our waitress .. She comes back and I explain to her that I don't like it and it still tastes funny.. She walks off and her manager approached us .. I tried to explain to him that I loved it the last time I had it but it tasted funny and he looked at me like I was an idiot .. He shrugged and said "I don't know what you want me to do" ... No apology .. Never asked if I wanted anything else .. My mind was blown as to how THIS guy ever became a manager.. So I just said can we just get our check so we can go and he just blankly stared at us and said he'd get our waitress to get it ... I mean out of the whole 40-60 minute experience we may have seen her for like 10 minutes ?? I couldn't believe how awful of a manager he was and how crappy service we got .. I thought maybe I was being to hard ? Maybe I was hungry and impatient ? Let's give it another try .. 2nd bad experience: We go in, no kids, date night, fairly busy but what else did we expect on a Friday night? We had about a 15 minute wait which wasn't too bad and we were seated.. Waitress comes up and greets us, takes our drink order, but because of waiting we were ready to order appetizer and entree. So she takes our drink and food order at once and went off.. As we were sitting there I noticed a couple of tables looking around including one table that sat behind us that was seated a few minutes after us.. Waitress comes back with our drinks after about 5 minutes.. Then we waited for 20 minutes and hadn't received anything but we noticed couple of tables that had just sat being served their drinks and appetizers/salads and we were confused cause we sat for quite awhile before them and hadn't even gotten a salad .. But we never saw our server .. So I asked a hostess to grab the manager.. He comes over and we explained we had been waiting and hadn't received anything so he goes to check on our appetizers... Apparently our waitress forgot to put in our order along with two other tables orders .. At that point we had already been sitting and waiting for at least 40-50 minutes AT our table so we asked the manager if we could have our check to pay for our drinks .. He offered to have us stay and they would take care of our whole check but we were beyond annoyed at that point so we didn't stay .. We got up and left AND so did the other two tables sitting by us apparently with the same waitress.. AT LEAST this manager was much better than the last .. We left and went to Friday's instead and had a MUCH better experience. It's such a shame that this place has such bad service and poor management cause the food is so good.

We had no idea they were open for breakfast, but when another place nearby had a 30-minute wait, we decided to check Madrones - and wow! They did not disappoint. The menu was selective, and everything looked delicious. I had the "Greens, Eggs and Ham" and was delighted. I was expecting from the description a sort of eggs benedict, but it was more like a salad - a LOT of greens, and a delicate lemon dressing. My son ordered a French toast sandwich, and it had about half a pound of meat on it. (He's about 6 foot 2 and can normally pack it away, but he had to take half of this dish home for later.) The OJ tasted fresh-squeezed, and coffee was excellent. They brought fresh-baked rolls to the table as well, with a sweetened butter (honey, I think). My husband, who doesn't generally like to go out for breakfast, says he'll come with us next time!

I was actually pretty surprised by this place. We have driven by it dozens of times and it just never registered. For whatever reason I categorized it as a sports bar type place (not that that's a bad thing). We finally stopped in for lunch and found the interior of the restaurant to be nice and lodge-like...or just not what I was expecting. Our server was very nice and attentive. Made lots of suggestions since it was our first trip. I opted to just get the club and a chopped salad. The bread on the club was not very appealing, honestly, but the salad was flavorful. My son got the kid's chicken fingers and fries which I thought was pretty good. Oh and the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer was very good. Very heavy though so maybe not a smart choice for lunch unless you are super hungry. My husband got a bbq sandwich and fries which he also enjoyed. Overall, I like Madrone's. I probably would not get the club and salad thing again but I guess it's about what you would expect from a $9 lunch special. Next time, I'm thinking dinner since their beer and wine menu looked like it needed some serious exploring.

OK...wanted to update my review...see told you guys I would, lol This go round I had the lobster bisque as a starter which was very creamy & had huge chunks of lobster....excellent! For the main course I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The burger came with pickles, lettuce, tomato and onions. The brioche bun was nice & soft. I ordered my burger medium well & it was perfect...not to dry or to juicy. The bacon was cooked just right & the cheddar cheese added a great flavor. The burger was so big, I had to cut the burger in half because it was huge. I was only able to eat one half & decided to take the other half home but ended up leaving it at the restaurant (insert sad face) I tasted a few of the other menu items: My cousin ordered the Caesar salad which I took a few forkfuls; the sundried tomatoes were an excellent addition. My mom ordered her usual roasted chicken but subbed the mashed potatoes for the roasted brussels sprouts (didn't taste those, not a fan of brussels sprouts ) but she seemed to enjoy it very much. She also ordered a side order crab cake, I tasted a forkful; I think I'll order the crab cake sandwich next time. Last thing, they have a chocolate cake w/ ice cream that is AWESOME!!! The cake is so moist it just melts in your mouth. The ice cream is just an added bonus. So if you live in Fredrick or are just passing through, come on out & try the newest restaurant in town.

This is our go to. With or without kids. Consistently good food (prime rib, shrimp and grits, salads, crushes). Great date night or family night (well priced kids menu, loud enough atmosphere, free wifi, free kids dessert). We eat here once a week minimum.

Came back here for date night.. Ehh, the waiter was okay. It wasn't very busy, got steak and I wanted it medium well. Now, a little pink is okay, I cut into it and blood came out. Not okay with me, sent it back and came back out again.. Still bloody, at that point the manager came. She offered to let me get something else but at that point the bf was ready done his meal and I was ready to go. Might try it again, but not a first Choice

Sadly, I was not impressed. I felt rushed to order as we were barely handed menus when we were expected to order. Our sever was grossly under qualified. I ordered the drunken ribeye. It was much too sweet. Half of my steak was gristle. Yuck! The Gorgonzola cream sauce tasted like burnt pan gravy that was topped with Gorgonzola. The baked potato was over cooked and dry My daughter ordered ribs advertised "falling off the bone", extremely dry and chewy. When I tried to order a dessert cocktail, our server was unable to make any suggestions and uneducated about any house selections or offerings. I Would not return. I suggest you go elsewhere for a quality dining experience.

First timers....it was great. It reminds me of O Charlie. We started with the crab dip....it was great. It's a lot. It was 5 of us and we dug in deep. We had to change orders because we were getting full on the appetizer. I had the hickory burger..hay it was a burger so of course it was good. My son tried the steak...He said it was great. The service was excellent too. We'll definitely be back for round 2....:)

This is the place to be in Frederick! Whether it's time for happy hour drinks or date night. The bar is beautiful and spacious, they have several TVs around and a great selection of beer, wine and flavored vodka. I came by for dinner on a Sunday evening and ordered the crab dip and cowboy steak. Both were delicious. They have a few fruit infused alcohol that they mix into tasty drinks and wines at several different price ranges.

First timers tonight and it was awesome. Loved the "call ahead" policy which is basically a way to make reservations. Waited less than five minutes after we arrived and then we were seated. Two couples. Service was great. Waitress made several suggestions and was very friendly. Bread was fresh. Hot crab dip rocked. We ordered seconds because it was so damn good! Table orders included two (2) Seafood Explosion's and two (2) Cajun Jambalaya's. We will be back!

the Bomb colossal crabcake platter is the most delicious and awesome dish. I took half home and made a crab omelette for breakfast the next morning to extend the fun. Wow, the drink glasses are huge and they dont let it get empty. Great service and the paging system is a text message to your phone -- much nicer than the giant vibrator most restaurants hand out. The burgers are huge and super fresh and tasty. Filet Mignon was tender and juicy as well as the sirloin. Dessert -- man, that cookie in a cast iron skillet with ice cream is oh so delish as well as the key lime pie. You wont go home hungry.

Ok, so this is a review that I am writing and I did not even get to eat one thing. It's time to jump in with both feet and splash a little mud sorry to say. We (3 of us) decided to try this so highly rated place for Sunday Lunch. Being a Sunday we were very casually dressed as in Jeans. We entering the place, and the aloof hostess (X2) looked us all up and down as if judging us worthy to be there. They seated us and dropped off the menus not once asking if we had been there before. So strike one for this aloof set of staff. Then we reviewed the menu, which I would have thought was a lunch menu or brunch menu. Not at all it was the normal menu and sorry to say over priced. No, don't get me wrong I have no issue paying a decent price for good a good meal as I travel through the Northeast and quality meals in NY do have a pricy tag. But this place me thinks not so Strike Two. Now we waited for a server to show up. As I read the Menu I see that they work as teams and basically ask for a minimum of 18% tip. Excuse me! I will tip based on the service and overall experience and for some place to state on their menu that 18% is minimum is outlandishly ballsy. So you guessed it Strike Three. Now still waiting for a server to show up I observed two servers talking and pointing to our table. In my perception flipping a coin who was going to take the table. That is absolutely the ultimate sin in hospitality to what looked to be dickering who was or was not going to service the table of paying guests. What happened to the team approach that he menu speaks of? Yes you guessed it Game Set and Match, game over! I refuse to be a patron of a place that looks at its customers and judges them at entry to the store. Then treat ten like second class citizens, then try to cover up the blatant rock, paper, scissor who is going to wait on the table by saying that it was all a misconception on my part. Sorry Mr. Manager I saw and heard what I did and no apology will fix that. We eat out a lot and spend on average about $50 per meal depending on place. So Madrone you lost about $2500 of business because of your staff and since I never ordered any food I can only rate this place on them. Good luck and good buy!

This was our 2nd and probably last visit. The first time the restaurant just opened so I expected some issues. Food average, long waits... Our second visit we have a family of 5 (3 younger ones) and sit at the bar tables (there was a wait in the restaurant). We put in our drink orders, apps and kids food. Drinks take about 15 to 20 minutes. Food over 40 minutes. We never got around to ordering entrees. Kids done by then. The wings where below average. My son loved his burger. Some nice beers on tap. The big problem? Price. It's $$$ for Fridays quality food.

Loved this place! Found it (on Yelp) while traveling through the area. Great menu choices (something for everyone, including (3 preteen/teen girls), reasonably affordable for our family of 5 --and everything we ordered was delicious!

My husband, son, daughter-in-law and I are visiting relatives in Frederick who suggested we go to Madrones for dinner this evening. It turned out to be regrettable. After two requests and 20 minutes we finally got water. The restaurant staff and our waitress avoided eye contact when passing customer tables including ours. Our wait between visits to our table, even with so few other diners present, was interminably long. Other problems during the course of the meal are too numerous to detail here. In the end, the food was good, but still the service was very lacking. Then starting at 9:30 pm, the sweeper started cleaning the floor in preparation for closing, making a loud ruckus with her broom and dust pan. We had finished eating, yet no one came to check and see if we desired anything else, were done, or even to clear the piles of dishes which remained empty on our table. As no other employee was present in the dining room for an extended period we had to get the sweeper's attention and request she find our waitress. The whole experience fell vastly short of the price of the meal. We asked to speak with the manager, who simply apologized and offered desserts (leftover at closing) but we are not dessert eaters so declined. Overall, the employees seemed inexperienced, untrained, and indifferent to the needs of the customers. If you choose to dine at this restaurant be aware it is hit or miss on the quality of the service.

Been here a few times and I decided to finally review this place. Great food and atmosphere. It can sometimes be a little loud, but the decor is really nice and it is always very clean here! If you go and there's a long wait (and you're open to it) sit in the bar area. Service is just as great and you can bypass the wait. Every time I've eaten here, the food had been delicious. Ask for their bread and butter starter if you don't get it. The butter is sweet and it tastes very yummy on the warm rolls. As far as dinner entrees, thumbs up for their Asian Salmon dish! Noteworthy mention: sweet potato casserole side. It is VERY sweet, but it is to die for. Could be a dessert.

We had a couples date night here, none had been here before. Every aspect was good ... from the friendly and spot on timing of our main server, Matt, to the correctly prepared and properly seasoned food and fair prices, we all had an enjoyable evening. Clean, ample parking and not crazy loud. We had the seafood explosion, jambalaya, roasted chicken and chicken tenderloins, chocolate martini, and cosmos, key lime pie and chocolate chip cookie sunday....all good! The only little thing that stuck in my crawl was the other Matt, with the crazy out of control Grizzly Adams facial hair who served our desserts should not be permitted in or around food prep or service without a facial hair net or something, seriously.

The lobster bisque is FABULOUS. My mom & stepdad were raving about it and I didn't order it but tried theirs and wished I would've. It is a MUST try. I ordered the crabcake sandwich. It was a poor choice. Way too much filling, frankly it was gross. BUT I am giving Madrones a 4 because I liked the atmosphere, our waiter (Dan) was great, and my drink (Island Paradise Martini) was delicious and transported me to the Bahamas with each sip. My sister & stepfather had the fish tacos & loved them. I will definitely be back to try more food.

I would give them zero stars if available. Here is my email to Madrone's management and rare sirloin steak photos to follow. Hello, Our waitress was terrible. No name provided, no welcome, etc. She grudgingly took our drink orders and then served me a water with 2 lemons which were way past its ripeness. They were black and moldy. I ask for a replacement and she hesitated and then was going to leave my water on the table and just give me two lemon slices. I told her I wanted a new water with new lemons. We were nothing but nice and always tip well (18 plus for good service) So far, our experience was poor. Benefit of the doubt...I got what I believed was new water. 10 minutes later she took our order...yes we had requested substitutions but nothing over the top. I asked if bread came with our meal and she said yet. 15 minutes later we go bread but still had no small plates. My daughter grabbed a manager for them at about 25 minutes after we placed our order. No apologies or comments but the manager got us the plates. At 45-50 minutes...no food. I walked up to the person who oversaw the runners and told her that it was been 45-50 minutes and still no food. She said she will look into it but not very apologetic or nice. The manager came by and he stated that we had many substitutions and suggested that was the cause of the delay. Nice to blame the customer for the long delay in our food delivery. That's great management skills. Substitutions were blackened salmon instead of chicken on a caesar salad (bacon on the side) and blackened salmon instead of asian salmon on another salad...dressings on the side. That's it! The manager was not mean but not very customer oriented but the apple doesn't fall far from a tree i.e. hostesses, waitstaff. The manager said it should be just a couple of minutes and by 7:10p.m (1 hour and 10 minutes after were seated, we got our food. We were celebrating my daughter's fiance's birthday. And so far, it was no celebration based on the dining experience. During this hour and 10 minutes, the waitress did not come back at all. She walked around us but never stopped by and said, sorry for the delay, do you need anything?..NOTHING...we asked a runner for my husband's salad for a refill of my daughters drink. We finally received our food, I took a bite of my blackened salmon and it was RAW. I stated as such and I stood up to take my plate back to where the runner was standing. I like my things cooked and well done so my daughter said, let me try it. She tried it and said YES, it was RAW. It was sushi and not flaky blackened salmon. I took it up to the person overseeing the runner and she had the nerve to tell me they cook salmon medium. I showed her my plate and said it was raw. She unbelievably told me that it was the way it was supposed to be. NO, it's supposed to be cooked and flaky. It was rubbery, limp and meant for sushi. I handed the plate to the manager and said to take it off my bill and it was raw. The manager wasn't yet concerned at this point. I sat back down and told my family I would eat when I returned home and that I'd wait until everyone was finished. An hour and 50 minutes passed since we arrived for our 5:45 call ahead seating time. I sat down and my daughter sliced into her steak and it was raw. Not medium as she requested but RAW and mooing. (And what is with the 8 oz of butter on the plate? There was more butter than mashed potatoes) (The file is too large to send but please email me and I will send a pic of the uncooked sirloin; I wish I took pics of the lemons but that was at the beginning of the evening and we tried blowing it off); We got the manager and he was not very helpful or really sorry. Things happen he said. Basically, we think the order was not put in until I walked up to the runner after 45 minutes of waiting...again, the waitress was awful and came to our table with an attitude. The manager's solution was to try Madrone's again and to give him a call before we come. No, we are not calling him. No, we are never stepping foot in your establishment. Yes, we are telling our friends of the experience....Much more occurred during our experience but I am limiting the details to the main ones...However, our server and the other servers were looking over at us and laughing while the manager was speaking to us. My daughter mentioned this to the manager and he refused to look or even care. This was the worst place I have ever been to because of the service, food and management. We will never go back!

Wow this place is amazing! My fiance and I have deemed it our favorite restaurant in town. Both times that we've been so far, the wait staff was attentive and kind. We have ordered the warm goat cheese brulee every time we have gone and it is delicious! Not an appetizer you can find at most places and tasted freshly made. We have also tried the veggie pocket, crab cake sandwich, Cesar salad, grilled chicken sandwich and the delicious mashed potatoes. From my view, this place is a great restaurant if youre looking to relax, enjoy a meal you can't get anywhere else and have an overall positive experience.

Madrones food is tasty. The reason this place gets 3 stars and not 4 is because the ambiance is lacking. The music kind of ruined the meal for me. If I'm paying $30 for a nice steak, I don't want to hear Taylor Swift blasting in my ears. It's distasteful. Come on Madrones, don't sell yourself short, you are so close to being a great restaurant.

I was pleasantly surprised that despite a very reasonable price, the food was top notch! I ate the Seafood Explosion, which had baked lemon snapper stuffed with seasoned lump crab, scallops and shrimp, covered with our spicy brown butter sauce. Served with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal green beans. This is about to be a regular hangout!

Quick update: It had only been a week and a half since my last visit to Madrones. Went just this past Friday and the smoked salmon appetizer I spoke so highly of, sadly, has been taken off the menu :( Amazing, how that happened in a week! However, we still had a great meal and a great time, our waitress was really attentive and very helpful. My dad was looking to try a new beer and she was very knowledgeable and helpful in recommending a beer he might like, which he ended up loving her suggestion. The Salmon salad was as delicious as ever. Still highly recommend this place!

Great new place! I happened to find this restaurant listed on yelp so me and my fiancé decided to give it a try. We got the spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer (which was greasy but only due to it containing real cheese), she got the vegetable pocket with grilled chicken as her meal, and I got the Colossal Crab Cake as my meal. The food was out-of-this-world good! My crabcake was possibly the best crabcake I've ever had (all crab-no filler, some binder) and I'm from Maryland! My fiancés dinner was great as well, tons of vegetables and a great grilled chicken breast on top. I was beyond impressed with this restaurant and the service. Will definitely be recommending and going back!

I've been to Madrones more than 20 times since they opened in Dec 2012. It can be a nice departure from the endless chain restaurants that dominate the Frederick dining scene. I love the atmosphere, although it can be exceptionally loud at times. There's no real separation between the bar and the other dining areas, and with the wall-to-wall big screen TVs, they sometimes attract a raucous sports bar crowd. The food is usually fine, except for the steak, as no one tending the grill seems to know the difference between "rare" and "medium," or "medium" and "well done." So expect to send it back, or just take my advice and skip the steak altogether. The rest of the menu is usually quite good. However, my issue with Madrones is the service. On occasion it can be excellent. But this depends entirely on the attitude and enthusiasm of the individual server, and not on some high standard of service excellence that management demands of its waitstaff. More often than not, the service sucks and we leave feeling disappointed. I'm not a demanding diner, and I usually keep my expectations low. But I would like the occasional drink refill, and it's nice when a server asks if there's anything else they can get me before they dump my food and run off. There has been too many times at Madrones when our server has disappeared for 25-30 minutes at a time. And all too often we've been stuck with one who just doesn't give a damn. I understand how a busy night can put a strain on the waitstaff, and this I can easily forgive. But what I can't forgive is someone who hates their job, and is happy to let me know it.

First time dining in this spot. First impression, relaxed atmosphere. Pretty good beer and wine selection. I met one of the buyers working behind the bar. He was very helpful in assisting me find a beer that i would appreciate. He also recommended the beef capriccio which was excellent. I could see myself returning although menu prices are a bit steep on most entrees.

Thanks to a friends and family invitation, we had the opportunity to try out Madrones a couple days before they open to the public. So the building itself was shiny and brand new, with a comfortable, rustic interior. It feels a little bit like a corporate chain inside (think Applebee's but fancier), but that seems entirely appropriate for a restaurant in a shopping district outside of Frederick. The shiny-newness extended a bit to the kitchen and service the night we were there, but I have no doubt they'll tune up quickly, and by the time you make your visit, they'll be a well-oiled machine. And you SHOULD visit. The husband and I had their pork chop entree, and it was quite good. The chops were a full pound, beautifully grilled to medium, juicy and flavorful throughout, with a lightly-applied, delicious barbeque sauce. The sauce didn't get in the way of the meat in the slightest, which was the real star on the plate. Friends who were eating with us ordered a full rack of ribs and the crabcake entree. Both of these looked great as well, and judging by how quickly they disappeared, I'd say that Madrones is well on their way to a solid menu and happy clientele.

Probably one of my favorite restaurants in all of Frederick County. With the exception of the shrimp and grits, most everything is absolutely delicious - the only problem with the grits is that they're ground too fine (I am a Southern boy). It can be a little pricey, but for what you get in a nice, clean environment, it's well worth it. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

First impression walking in was the atmosphere seemed very pleasant. It was a little dark though...do they not want me to see something? Sit at the table and open the drink menu......a light beams down from heaven, illuminating the draft beers section *key heavenly music and singing angels* they have actual German beers on draft!!! Excitedly I order a hefeweizen (and a brewer I recognize from the time I lived in germany). Excitedly, I handed my wife the car keys and kept on ordering different German beers! The rolls that were brought to the table were moist and delicious. The butter, divine. I had a house salad, wasn't able to order my own dressing I was going to order ranch dressing, but my disappointment was immediately dismissed when I took my first bite. House salad was amazing (for a house salad). I ordered the prime rib. Perfection. I did have to order the horse radish separately because it did not come with it, but that was only a minor annoyance. The prime rib was cooked to a medium rare perfection and the horse radish served was actual horse radish (not that mayonnaise concoction too often served). My wife, who is most beautiful, had the penne rustica. She said it was awesome! Make sure you bring you appetite though! The portions are large and the quality is epic! Definitely coming back!

Great alternative to going downtown. Warm atmosphere, good for lunch or dinner. The fish tacos are my favorite there... so good! Food is consistent and prices are reasonable. The seating is ample and spacious, no tables right up next to you when you're trying to dine. This is my go-to spot for lunch and for a night out when I don't feel like venturing downtown but want something a bit more interesting and nicer than Glory Days or Fridays.

Burger! I don't recommend bothering with anything else. The apps can be hit or miss at times and pricey unless it is happy hour. Did I mention the burgers? Order one and you will be treated to a luxury experience worthy of a 4 star review. Order one a shade rarer that you typically would and you will be rewarded. Well worth $12 for a big portion of fries, homemade pickles and mustard along with a burger fit for the most hipster of any gastropubs (minus the duck fat fries of course).

Overall the food is ok. Burgers are good. I don't recommend ordering the calamari since they mix it half with small onion rings/straws to make it look bigger.

What a wonderful experience!! If there were more stars, Id give them!! My husband and I had only been once before. I am so glad we chose to go last night for his 35th birthday!! We sat at the bar, which is a really nice atmosphere. Its not too loud, but the spirit is high and everyone seemed happy. Our bartender was very attentive and knowledgeable. My husband ordered the thick cut pork chop, and our bartender let us know that it does take about 20-25 minutes to cook. This was really cool of him to do- some people may be in a rush! In my opinion, its also a great way to have us try an appetizer (which he didn't push on us!) I got the beef Carpaccio as my meal (holy heaven on a plate--they know what they are doing!) and we started off with the goat cheese dip! (I never knew balsamic glaze could add such a perfect sweetness to the creamy amazingness of that cheese!) Everything came out perfectly. Timed perfectly...tasted perfectly, we just had a perfect meal!! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys friendly, attentive service and incredible food. Grab a loved one and truck on in to Madrones! Thanks guys-- you really made our evening! fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamai…

Great food, nice atmosphere. Sat at the bar waiting for them to text us when our table was ready, we were intrigued by the enormous jar of pineapple on the corner of the bar. We soon learned that it was one of two flavored vodka that they used for their many martini options, which were light and flavorful. Fruity but not too sweet. Had to try the Goat Cheese Brûlée appetizer, with goat cheese, sundried tomatoes, roasted garlic, caramelized onions and fresh toasted pita wedges that had a balsamic glaze that we licked off the plate...and yes you CAN have more wedges to finish your dip! The menu contained carefully selected choices of beef, pasta, seafood, chicken and pork chop. Yes, they have A pork chop but it sounded delish. There were many types of salad and sandwiches but being foodies we felt the need to venture beyond the norm. We selected the drunken ribeye which was stout or ale marinated and good, but a little sweet. Very tender and cooked to perfection. Chose the chopped salad which had corn and basil and had the house dressing, a light creamy italian with gorgonzola. The blackened Ahi tuna, on the other hand was a food lover's dream! Blackened and cooked perfectly it melted in your mouth. Served with Gorgonzola risotto with grilled tomatoes and onions that made the dish! Paired amazingly with the $8.00 Pinotage that finishes like a missing sauce, we needed no dessert. Will definitely be back, if for no other reason than to try more of their drinks and huge selection of beers!

  • Steve G.

I have liked the food since they have opened. For some reason I seem to always gravitate back to the drunken ribeye. The flavor is always there, though my latest visit, it was prepared correct but was very tough and chewy (only one time out of ten). The service is improving w every visit. At first it was bad. Sad or depressed wait staff and seemed inexperienced but has improved. I try to give a new place a year before I judge the service too harshly. Although my latest visit , the bartender looked at me like I was green and purple because I changed my mind from a house salad to a Caesar. Like I broke the law. Other than that , I like the place and plan on keeping it as one of my regulars.

You'd expect to find a place like this in Georgetown or Annapolis. Very pleasant but very busy. On the pricy side but worth it. Service...excellent. Drunken Ribeye was outstanding and cooked to perfection. If you enjoy baked potatoes, theirs was perfect. Accompanying salad just so so. Stout was mild and enjoyable. I'd return weekly if I could afford it.

Lunch - I've gone for lunch a few times and their lunch specials are REALLY good. The cajun fish sandwich is great. Every time I look at the lunch specials I'm all "Oh I want to try that...and that...and that". I think most lunch special items are around $10 - which is perfect. Happy Hour - Martini's for $7.50 and 41 off all other drinks. Lauren made me some killer martinis. Just like the lunch special I wanted to try them all hahaha. had the Blackened Chicken Skewers, also on HH special, and they were super good. My coworker had the New Orleans Spiced Shrimp with a couple of beers and he was also very happy. Crowd seemed a bit older than most other places but the bartenders are really friendly and there are plenty of tvs around the bar area.

I am finally breaking my Yelp silence to review THE BEST RESTAURANT I've ever been to. I went with a party of 4 tonight and we had an appetizer and 4 assorted sandwich/pasta meals between us. The food was so fresh and flavorful, served at exactly the right temperature and exactly the right time. You can tell someone really knew what they were doing when they created every one of these dishes. Our favorite: the sweet potato casserole side. It was $4 and easily the best thing I've ever put into my mouth. Rich was a fantastic waiter and answered all of our weird questions about the restaurant and dishes with a smile. My favorite part about the whole place is that it isn't a chain. From my understanding a few people that have been in the industry for a while finally got together and opened their dream restaurant, which makes sense because of how well this place is put together. Anywhoo, go to madrones. This side of town is blowing up anyway so I know you'll be over there for something.

A nice addition to the restaurant scene in Frederick, MD. Located in a fairly new strip shopping center at Rt 15 and Rt 26. Food is prepared over hickory fire/charcoal. DW had the seafood explosion. A very nice dish with a moderate amount of heat. I enjoyed the fish of the day, grouper topped with brueschetta mixture with a side of mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Both meals were cooked to order and very tasty. The beer selection is good as well with a nice selection of micro-brews on draft and a nice bottle selection too. Service was excellent with food to match! We'll be going back.

Wonderful place. Did the call ahead since they do not take reservations. Got there about ten minutes early but had a nice drink at their large comfortable bar. Bartenders were friendly and quick. Once we were seated our server was very attentive. My wife and I both ordered the Drunken Ribeye. Wow. One of the best Drunken Ribeye's I've ever had. Cooked to perfection and tender as can be. I had the peppercorn sauce to go with it and it was delicious. All in all a very satisfactory experience. We will go back often. Their lunch and burgers look excellent as well.

The best new restaurant in Frederick! My husband and I are huge fans of both the drinks menu and the food. There is an amazing selection of craft beers that we can't find anywhere else. If I'm not in the mood for beer, the wine and cocktail list is extensive. Nice atmosphere and the staff is great. My husband's go-to is the Mongolian Pork Chop and mine is the drunken rib-eye - a really beautifully cooked steak marinated in bourbon with a simple but perfect Idaho potato. Bread and sweet butter are awesome. Burgers are huge and cooked to order. Portions are a good value for the money. We have made Madrones our new favorite place to go out to eat or to catch a game at the bar.

Not kid friendly for us. Waited an hour to get a seat. Then after ordering, waited another 45 minutes for food. Waitress only stopped by once. Thought it was loud. It looked clean though. I thought beer selection was good, but they took the list away quickly. Salmon was not edible. Kids pizza dough was worse than microwave pizza. I thought my wife's chicken entree looked good. And my other son's crab cake sandwich was good. It was very hard to get the waitress to stop by. I really did want to like this place. It was very disappointing however.

Went today for lunch and there weren't any other customers there yet. I ordered a salad and fish tacos to go. It took 30 minutes to get my food although others came in, sat and received their food. Addressed my concerns with the manager as he tapped his feet impatiently. He then explained they had a lot of call in orders of which I said I understand, but others have come in to eat and some were about done with their meals while I was waiting. He then said with attitude "so what do you want me to do about it, pay for your meal?" I said yes, but I've already paid. He had one of his workers come over to reverse the charges and just walked away. Never once did he apologize. This was quite a interesting first visit. I can at least day the good was good, but customer service needs a bit of work...at least at lunch time.

Great dinner. Food was awesome. Staff seems a little stressed or on edge. Needs to loosen up a bit. GM seemed like a sour puss. Girl at the door was the only one we saw smile all night. Natasha was the young lady at the front door. Beautiful smile and bubbly personality. Would make a good server. Can't say enough good about the food. Makes up for the good but unfriendly staff. Will return

I had avoided this restaurant because many friends warned that it was pricey, but today we decided to stop in. The crab dip appetizer was good, but a but bland. My husband ordered the ribs and I ordered the Asian Salmon. Both meals were EXTREMELY delicious!! The presentation and flavors were great! We were also delighted that we were able to get Old Bay and vinegar for the french fries! The service was great and we were too full to order dessert, so what a great reason to return!

Had the fish tacos and they were good but they were described as "spicy" fish tacos and they were not. The pickled cabbage was good on them, added the salsa which gave it some spice. Need to get rid of the lettuce and peanuts and it would have made it even better! The bread is good with the butter. Hubby had the chicken sandwich but it was lacking on the chicken - the bread was way bigger than the chicken breast but he said it tasted good.

My wife and I spotted and decided to try this place while passing through Frederick the other night and we are glad we decided to eat here. From the exterior, it's obvious that this establishment was not a chain which initially prompted me to give it a shot. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the hostess who seated us right away. While we were seated in a booth, we could see the restaurant has a enormous bar and the largest wine and beer menu that I've seen in Frederick. The wife ordered smoke salmon and artichoke dip for appetizers, I ordered a burger for my entree. First, the appetizers were scrumptious, the smoked salmon was moist and yummy. Second, I'm giving this place 5 stars just on the basis of my burger alone! It was simply the best burger I have ever eaten. Cooked over hickory wood, you can actually see, and SMELL, the wonderful smoky wood aroma. The burgers are made from "in house" ground steak and were 10oz huge. Even the pickles are home made. The bottom line.....everything was delicious. Great staff, atmosphere, and food! Definitely worth a visit.

Stopped by with my wife and another couple for Dinner last night. The atmosphere seemed slightly mature and the inside of the restuarant was fairly dark. I was impressed by the beer list and the beer price was average but still high. Crab dip as an appetizer and was unimpressed with it. Forgettable average taste. Ordered the sirloin which came with a side and a salad(house chopped or ceasar). Chopped house salad was good and I liked the blue cheese on the salad. Sirloin was ordered medium rare and came out appropriately cooked. The steak was incredibly bland however. Little to no spice. I probably would not order another steak if I were to return. I ordered my entree with a side of steamed vegetables, but its came out with a baked potato. The baked potato was bland and lame. Wife and I didnt care for the food but our friends seemed to love their meals. I hipe they Yelp so they can average out my less than average review.

Good food and good service. Crab dpi was tasty, but definitely good for two people. Chicken sandwich was slammin and would recommend it to anyone. Service was great and our server was super chill. Not pushy and allowed us to hang out and around even after we finished our food. Really relaxing setting and a cozy place to eat. I give it five stars. Good food and good people and a great atmosphere.

We came in a large group (50) for lunch and Madrones was very accommodating. They reserved a nice section for us. The food was very good. It took a little while for some tables to get their food (but we were warned it may take extra time for such a large party). Overall, I would recommend it.

So far, so A-OK. Nice staff at the bar, which is where I ordered my fish tacos to go. Not up to San Diego standards (of course), and they're not really set up for "to go" (at least not yet), but while Wegmans (same commercial development) is cheaper, I'll spend another 10 bucks (at least once a week) for a lunch that wasn't sitting out on a keep-hot.

I have eaten here 6-8 times since it opened and I have loved every meal. We sometimes go just so my husband can get the prime rib! The service is usually excellent and I have been with 2 - 8 people. My favorite things on the menu are: the Caesar salad, the Seafood Explosion, the Asian Salmon, the mashed potatoes, and the brownie sundae. My husband always gets the prime rib and my 1 daughter always gets the kids buffalo wings. Kids get a free brownie with ice cream with their meal too! They now offer a Sunday brunch that I hope to try soon.

Love their sliders...to die for. We have had one dinner that didn't go so well for their roast chicken, hence the 4 stars but the sliders are unreal!

Ate here last night. The atmosphere was pleasant. I agree with a previous reviewer the lighting was a little dark. The service was good. I ordered the filet with fire roasted asparagus and the chop house salad. The steak was cooked well. The salad was delicious. My wife ordered the jambalaya. I had a little order envy. Her jambalaya was delicious. We finished things off with a slice of key lime pie. It was pretty good. They used a little too much raspberry sauce on the plate. The pie had good flavor but I would have preferred it be a little more dense.

Great burgers...just make sure you do not ask for your burger to be well done. My burger was more on the burnt side than anything. However, the bread was amazing!

Nice environment, good food, but the server was rarely around, hardly ever checked on us and I had to continually ask for different items. That's more of a knock on her than it is the restaurant. Kitchen was also a little slow, but it wasn't horrible. We will be going back to try more types of the food.

Been to Madrones 3 times. First time I did not care for the food. Gave it another chance. Liked it the second time - had fish tacos and that was good. The service was good the second time. However all 3 times when I've gone the hostess at the front was talking and couldn't be bothered with people coming in the door. Seems to me - what is the point to have someone there then? The last time I went the service was not good at all and the food was pretty average. Got pasta with portabella mushrooms the 3rd time.

This place is amazing. The food was very good. Our appetizer was the crab dip, which was very good. We ordered the baked chicken and steak for our meals. The food was very flavorful. We also ordered the peanut butter pie. It is the best pie I have ever had in my life. Definitely recommend it. The service was so so at our table. We did notice the waitresses around us were very good. It looked as if we got the only one that was unhappy in the entire place.

I've reviewed this place before-it's the reason I joined Yelp (because when it opened it was SO BAD) and mysteriously, that review has now disappeared. But I digress. The purpose of today's review is to pat Madrone's on the back for how far they've come. First, I think that from the decor to the menu, this place has an identity crisis. Is it a lodge? Is it a winery? Or just a classy bar? The prices are also not reflected in the decor. I can never decide what to wear there. But that doesn't detract from the quality of the food. I am a huge fan of the filet tips. I wish they came with a salad and there are FAR too many mashed potatoes, but the dish is really excellent. On to the service: It has drastically improved since they opened the restaurant. The first time I ever went to Madrone's, I was convinced that I would never be back. It was that bad. Since then, they've hired a younger crowd that seems to be more on top of things. Overall, my advice is to make a more cohesive identity for this place, but keep doing what you're doing, otherwise.

We visit Madrones several times a year, the most recent visit being 8/1/2015. We arrived promptly upon their opening time at 11am, knowing that lunch on a Saturday might get busy and we had two cranky toddlers on the verge of a nap time meltdown. We were seated right away by a kind young man. He seated us next to a table set for probably 20 people and we wondered why he would want us near a large group- the manager witnessed this and quickly re-seated us and told us that the large table was reserved for a group of women coming to celebrate and he didn't want it to be too loud for our kids. The waitress, I believe her name was Mariah, could not have been more attentive and engaging, especially with our girls. We ordered our girls' meals first and they came out quickly. My husband was very impressed with the kale salad- it was quite intricate and delicious. I enjoyed the chicken sandwich- the chicken was very tender and juicy and the spread used on the ciabatta roll was flavorful. We were in and out of the restaurant in less than an hour thanks to our wonderful waitress who understood our girls' needs. Thanks for accommodating two grouchy little girls and giving me a wonderful birthday lunch, Madrones!

It is a chain restaurant. Nothing was particularly outstanding. The steak was cooked to a rare instead of a medium rare. It was chewy. They are trying to be upscale but fall short of more like the mediocre category. We were not impressed with the food. The service however, was on point.

Home run. My boyfriend and his friend were going to be running the Frederick Half Marathon. I found this place for all four of us to eat dinner the night before. The menu seemed good, interesting and had a good selection for carb-loading or not. We each ordered a different drink and the guys really enjoyed their beers. I loved my berry infused cocktail. We shared the crab dip- REALLY good. It came out with fresh chips and bread, stopped with lump crab meat. I had the 6oz sirloin with a side salad- cooked perfectly and the salad was yummy, with corn and a creamy italian dressing. My boyfriend had this concoction of portobello mushroom over penne with grilled chicken, fried goat cheese, and little balsamic, asparagus and more. UH, YUM. Our friend had the french dip and his girlfriend had the seafood jambalaya which, interestingly enough, came over pasta instead of rice. Everyone loved their meal and everyone went home with leftovers. The prices were right, the atmosphere makes it look like a nicer chain but relaxing as well. The service was good and the food was spot on.

The initial attraction is that they serve food late on weeknights. A group of friends ride MTB or road after work and there are limited options in Frederick for good food (and beer) after 9pm. Madrones has a nice craft brew selection on tap, but always have North Coast's Old Rasputin on nitro so I don't often venture to try the others. My friends have and tell me there are usually 3-6 solid beers to try and many others that are good just not styles that they prefer. Food is good, the Le Grande burger is amazing and I order it with the Caesar salad as a side rather than fries. We keep going back.

Interesting decor. The "doors of booze" concept was a head-scratcher. I guess some culinary psychologist decided that having a wall of glass doors showcasing lots of booze would incline guests to drink more? Seems more appropriate for a breastaurant. But what do I know, I am a misanthrope. I disliked the appetizer menu, it's kind of fussy, but that likely speaks to the sweet spot of clientele they seek to draw in. Too much classic Americana and your restaurant is full of young families, old white men, and college kids. As to my food? I eat a lot of burgers ... This one was outstanding. Really all I can say. 5 star burger. Waitress was very honest and frank, that's nice. I'd likely return if I were back in fredROCK.

Madrones is a chain style meat and seafood restaurant...it feels like I've eaten there 100 times before. We stopped in for an early dinner on a Sunday and we were seated immediately. After a rough week of moving to this area, we were in the mood for a drink! We both ordered a beer, my boyfriend got the left hand milk stout(which is awesome) and I got the cherry ale, which was flat. We also ordered a super oak chardonnay, which came in a carafe, nice pour, lovely wine! Now the food, we ordered the "le grand" burger medium, it was cooked well done and the sirloin, which was supposed to be medium and came out rare and a little too salty. Their steaks and burgers are very thick, which makes checking the cook temperature difficult...If your going to go big, you gotta get it right! For dessert...key lime pie...which we were told it was made with real key limes...I doubt that but it was creamy and delicious. Overall, I liked Madrones. Would I go back? Maybe...but I wouldn't get the red meat.

Normally a place with food as good as this might warrant at least 4 stars, but the service was so bad I just couldn't rate only for food. Our server acted as though she may have had something better to do this afternoon rather than be at work. I'm a stickler for process and systems and either the restaurant doesn't have them, or the management does not properly train their employees because she just wasn't "on". Tip was left according to service value received....once I asked for a pen to sign my receipt. And no, I would not return.

3.5 The good: Walked in on a Saturday night around 7 and were seated right away. Pretty extensive menu, with some interesting things on it. Didn't drink, but expansive drink menu and beers on tap. My husband's ribs were absolutely delicious. So was the sweet potato thing he had on the side. Believe it or not, he had room to order the chocolate cake. Now I'm not the biggest chocolate cake fan, but I kept coming back to his plate for "another small bite". The "eh": I got the Caesar salad with chicken on it. The chicken was ok. I guess it's my fault for ordering something so basic. Key lime pie...not the best. Not firm enough....my standards are high--mine's the best! Hah

Very friendly service, excellent rolls, delicious soups. Fries are excellent! Server recovered well when my daughter found a hair in her mashed potatoes. They reacted quick, and actually took the meal off the bill without asking. Speaking of which the mashed potatoes are country style with chive butter, which many kids may not like. The kids meals come with a drink, entree and side and dessert. All for $6 or under, which is a great deal. Soup and sandwich combo was excellent with fantastic service at $8.99. Lunch prices were spot on and this place is certainly a revisit for the family! Kids brownie sundae did a nice job at finishing out our kids meals.

Madrones offers a fixed price lunch and a fixed price dinner menu for groups of 12 or more. A co-worker is retiring next month and the entire team was going to take her out to dinner to say good-bye. I called to make reservations for 12 people at 6:30pm on Friday, May 15th and to make the dessert selection as required per the flyer. The MANAGER states that they cannot make reservations for large groups on Friday nights, even though their fixed menu flyer says nothing about restrictions for reservations. The manager attempted to ramble some excuse about not being able to seat a large group in a timely manner or some other nonsense. I believe that's what a reservation is for. It appears Madrones doesn't want our $500 minimum check. We will be choosing another restaurant that wants our business and not this disgrace of an eatery. I personally will never return here either.

We like to sit at the super large bar and share a few appetizers. The happy hour specials available from 3:30-7:00 PM Monday through Friday are a STEAL. Definately try the Goat Cheese Brulee Dip (Goat cheese, sundried tomato puree, roasted garlic, calmelized sugar crust, pita chips, balsamic glaze) even if you think or don't know if you like goat cheese!

Brunch is great. The selections are more creative than anything you'll find downtown. Portion sizes were huge! The home fries are a little mushy for my taste, but fine. Probably the best brunch in Frederick. Still would love to give them 5 stars, but I'm going to need another vegetarian option on the dinner menu to do so. The pasta is good, but very bold--not something I want to order every time.

This place is pretty consistent with the four star reviews! I was skeptical at first (not being from the area)since as we approached, it looked like another chain restaurant in a sea of chains that are in the mall areas around here. Luckily, inside the decor is warm, but on the trendier side. It looks like you are in a nice lodge or more high end establishment. It was NOT what I expected. For waters/soda, etc. they give you a vat of a drink--maybe to have to avoid doing tons of refills? They have a good array of alcoholic beverages as well, including several seasonal options and I went with a very tasty pumpkin cider. I was with a group of four of us--everyone else ordered a salad and entree, I had the beef carpaccio and a side of broccoli. I don't think the beef carpaccio should be on the appetizer menu--I envision apps as easily shareable, and this would be kind of awkward. This is DEFINITELY a salad, and seemed much larger/filling than the ones other people got. Additionally, it had better greens and an excellent spicy mustard dressing. The broccoli was also good, but nothing remarkable, which I wouldn't really expect anyways for a $3 side. Those that ordered the "bomb" crabcake dish (when in Maryland...) really enjoyed it. I thought it seemed a bit pricey for an entree, but I guess that is what crab goes for these days... One thing I will say, our server was not knowledgeable about portions. We asked her several times about how much of a different item we would get, and she really was unsure of of the difference between a half/full rack of ribs, and then when we asked about dessert (which we intended to possibly split) she said that the cookie sunday wasn't very big. Yes, it is about one-one 1/2 scoops of ice cream, but it sits on a cookie the size of a dinner plate! Half of us didn't even finish it. Definitely would recommend it to anyone in the area who doesn't want to go to the MANY MANY chains in the area.

I had family in town and was looking for a good place to eat. Madrones delivered. Service was great. Beer selection was diverse. I went with the prime rib which was cooked perfect. My guests went with the prime rib as well and the hickory swordfish special. Everyone was pleased.
