The family and I ate here tonight and we had great service and great grub. For appetizers we split some Bang Bang shrimp and Calamari. I had the Grouper with the Mediterranean sauce. The Med sauce was a little strong, but still tasty. Also, for those with really big appetites you can add fillet to your entree for 9.90. Went here again and was hanging at the bar while waiting for the family. I met a dude named Uncle Fun. He was a balding, Vietnam vet hitting on some middle aged ladies and joking with the bartenders. He definitely lived up to his namesake.

Most enjoyable for a chain restaurant. Price matched quality. Everything we had was tasty. The dessert was big enough for 3 to split. It was a bit noisy, even when half full on a weeknight ... so I'm guessing it's pretty loud on a weekend. We'll certainly come back.

It's a chain but it's very good. Service is friendly and prices are reasonable. Of course, start with the Bang Bang Shrimp. I like my fish grilled with their great sauces on the side. I've enjoyed everything I've had at Bonefish.

I like Bonefish for what it is: a corporate chain seafood restaurant that does a pretty good job with the food. The fish is good as are the crab cakes and the Bang Bang shrimp. It can get crowded at times but you can usually grab a table in the non-smoking bar and get quick service. The service was really good when they first opened, now it's just above OK. Parking gets crowded on the weekends.

I am actually likin' the scene at the BoneFish Grill here in Frederick. I have never eaten at a table, just the bar, or the high top tables at the bar, so I can't speak for table service. However, the gals behind the bar are top notch. Pretty much each Friday I get a taste for the Ahi Tuna Sashimi appetizer. It's sesame seared, sliced thin, with wasabi and pickled ginger... Love it. As mentioned in other reviews of the chain, the Bang Bang Shrimp rocks. There seems to be a wait for tables, but ample standing room in the bar while you wait. Classy joint.

Audrey made me do it. I had forgotten about the Bonefish Grill until I read Audrey's review. I have been there a few times and each time it was very good. The atmosphere is nice. The staff was efficient. The food was pretty good. I wouldn't rate it as the best place in Frederick, but it's decent. Even my daughter who is variously vegan and vegetarian found something she could eat. What I don't like is the old 7th Street Shopping Center parking and the "corporate" feel of the restaurant. I guess 7th Street had to reinvent itself, but I don't like the cluttered feel you get there now. Too much in too little space. But I don't think you'll be disappointed if you don't mind the corporate feel.

Nothing special here. The concept is like a Houston's except with more fish entrees. Houston's has better food though. It was just okay.

I hate to give a chain a good review. But I've got to give credit where credit's due. Once I walked inside, I forgot I was in a new building in the parking lot of a strip mall. Bonefish feels like what it is -- an upscale fish house. The seafood is spectacular. They push sauces a lot but the quality of the fish stands up by itself. Our party had seared tuna, grouper, and shrimp. We all enjoyed our meal.

Wonderful! Went there again, and the food was wonderful I got the grilled scallops and shrimp in a garlic butter sauce. Heavenly! My only complaint is that the crowded restaurant was very loud. Again, the waiters were very attentive.

Pros: Bang Bang Shrimp, Pomegranate Martini Cons: Very, very loud music, prices for what you get My in-laws used to like taking us to dinner here. It was one of the few places in Frederick they would eat out at. I would strongly recommend making a reservation ahead of time as the dining room is very small and theres always a wait, unless you want to sit at the community table in the bar. We have dined here numerous times since they have opened and each time i have gone, the experience has gone slightly down hill. The last time we went to dinner here, the music was so loud you could not hear the person next to you talking and I'm really not exaggerrating. My poor father-in-law nicely asked the manager if the music could be turned down and they ignored him. I almost thought it had actually gotten louder. They seem to be gearing towards a more hip, younger demographic now a days. Well they lost him as a customer! I had ordered a Sangria before my dinner, never recieved it but, it was on our bill. There is some disconnect it seems between the bar and the regular dining room servers, who do not bring your drinks. In general the servers we have had here were excellent, but the past few times, not so much. The food for the most part has been good, but it is overpriced for what you get in my opinion. I have never had an entree that I thought was "the best thing I ever ate" and worth every penny. However, I am a very picky eater and I've never had to send anything back either. They do have happy hour specials and some great cocktails, but the quality of drinks is very inconsistent depending on what day you go and who the bartender is, you can definitley taste the difference. I would go back for some Bang Bang Shrimp and some good drinks to enjoy with friends, but not a family dinner with the in-laws. Also the outdoor seating, we were told, is "first come, first serve" and having a reservation made no difference.

Had a fantastic dinner here Friday night. We didn't make a reservation and waited 35 minutes for seating. No problem though. It was comfortable. The Server, Lauren, was great. Friendly, attentive but not overbearing. The food was also great. We tried a great variety of food from appetizers to dessert. My 5-year-old granddaughter also loved it. She had Corn/Crab Chowder and the children's Chicken & Vegetables. On Saturday, she wanted to go back! Can't beat the Coconut Pie with Rum Sauce. Leave room!

I absolutely love this place and so do many other people in Frederick (it is very crowded on the weekends....plan ahead). I would have to say this is the best chain restaurant I've ever tried. The food is delicious, fresh and most importantly, well seasoned. That is the true test of a great restaurant! We love eating here and we have a hard time just ordering entrees. The appetizers and desserts are just as good. The red sangria is the best!!

I have eaten at Bonefish in Frederick several times and I would be remiss if I didn't mention one of your employees . Chris Ruyter has provided exemplary customer service in all of my experiences, regardless of the volume of customers he was tending to. He is truly an asset to this restaurant and the company as a whole. Please acknowledge his performance. Though I did enjoy the ceviche, the service was surprisingly poor. From having to ask for our water to be refilled (every time) to waiting 10 minutes (which is a long time when you know they are ready to go in the kitchen) for a dessert to be brought out, it was a long dinner. If you're going to be a waiter/server, please show up and be attentive This may be your job and I know you may have had a long day, but this was our dinner. It should be more of an experience then just eating food.

Great ambience. Went with friends, and had a pleasant time. Great customer service. The food was good. Nothing spectacular. I loved their bread and specialty cocktails. The Moscow mule was delicious! Wasn't a fan of their truffle mac n cheese - the noodles were too soft and it was bland in taste.

Bang bang shrimp - need I say more? They are addicting! Staff always awesome :) Apparently need to say more or Yelp isn't happy :) Bang bang shrimp is addictive and their bisque is very tasty. Like eating outside, but road noise can be distracting.

I had the boneless pork chop with fontina cheese, and mushrooms. I chose potatoes as my side and it was all together a great dish. A bit on the saltier side so don't salt your veggies. The sauce was amazing. Will probably choose this again next time I go. The bread they serve when you get there is very "Macaroni Grill but the pesto and olive oil was better. Bread wasn't bad. The server was nice, but the food came out staggered. We got two plates, then 2 more 5 minutes later and than the last one after that. Spend a little over $100 with tip on a group of 5 so this will be once every season kinda of place.

There's no real need to go to chain restaurants in Frederick because there are so many amazing independent places here, but sometimes you just end up at a chain. And, if you do, Bonefish isn't the worst place to end up. I've always found the service to be good (but very pushy with their specials) and the food, especially the seafood, to be darn tasty. As most people have mentioned in previous reviews, the coconut shrimp and the bang bang shrimp are amazingly good. It's worth coming here just for those if you're in the mood for seafood. The place is very big so you can almost always get a seat without a reservation. I've never had an issue, but I'm sure there are times when a reservation is most likely needed.

My friend ordered one thing while I ordered another and we shared both entrees. We ordered one of the special menu items (Lobster Thermidor Dorado), and the grilled tilapia with lemon butter. The Lobster Thermidor Dorado was spectacular and if you find yourself at BG while it is available, get it! All the components work perfectly together and it's a very flavorful dish. Perfectly cooked mahi mahi, sweet lobster and crab meat, those fabulous garlic whipped mashed potatoes, all covered in a perfect and decadent sherry sauce. The dish was a winner and the best on the table in my opinion. Who do I have to see about making this a year round menu item?!? The grilled tilapia with lemon butter and the seasonal side was a nice lighter break to the rich Lobster Thermidor symphony taking place on our table. The tilapia was really tender and quite enjoyable. The seasonal side of chickpeas, spinach, tomato, and onion all sautéed together was fantastic while the asparagus side was crisp clean and great. Great experience and food was had by all!

No matter where I am Bonefish is always a pleasant experience. You can catch there happy hour at 4 I think everyday and get good drink prices. House wine is only $3.25 during. We got the crab fried rice and a couscous dish they added to their menu. Everything was so good. Plus the service is always excellent!

  • Juanita P.

As usual the bang bang shrimp was nothing short of scrumptuous!! I ordered a meal (cant remember the name) that was a combination of fried rice, mango salsa and grilled chicken. The fried rice and mango salsa were good but the grilled chicken left much to be desired. It was ridiculously dry. Since there was no sauce in the dish, it was hard to get past that. Had they not overcooked the chicken, the dish would have been great and this review would have been 5 stars. I was a bit disappointed but lets hope that they redeem themselves the next time I decide to dine there.

Wow, I can honestly say I was very impressed with our trip to Bonefish. Seriously, the food, the drinks, the service, all wonderful. I never give 5 stars to chains but they totally deserve it. First, our server Chloe was on point the whole time. She absolutely contributed to the experience. Next, the drinks were great. You never really know what you are going to get from the bar in these chain places but their bar was very nice and had quality drinks. Bang Bang Shrimp is a must. I like to dump mine out of the bowl once the sauce drips down into the lettuce. You should try it. My husband had the Fontina Chops with the crab fried rice and both were delicious. It had been years since my last Bonefish trip but I went with my "usual" which is a medium rare filet with the Lily's Chicken topping (goat cheese, spinach, artichoke and creamy butter sauce). Man, was it delicious paired with the au gratin potatoes and the zucchini and tomatoes. If I wasn't still so full I would go eat my leftovers right now. Also, they have a special Bang Bang menu on Wednesdays which was priced awesome and we'll likely be checking it out very soon.

I made a reservation three weeks ago for Valentine's Day and the woman I spoke to over the phone never recorded any of my information. I was transferred to a manager when my information couldn't be found. He also searched to no success. He told me that I was welcome to come in and wait on a table, but he couldn't tell me how long my wait would be. I didn't receive an apology or any accommodations for the poor service.

THIS IS THE WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME! I was looking forward to trying a new (to me) restaurant because I love seafood. We arrived last Saturday night around 7:30 and the place was a zoo. The hostess quoted us an hour wait. Fairly reasonable so we took a pager and headed to the bar. There weren't any open seats so we found a spot at the far end to stand at. The blond bartender actually made eye contact w/ JV within 5 minutes and took our drink order. Well, one was garnished with a lime and one wasn't so I grabbed a lime out of the service bar container for the bf so the male bartender yelled at me that I couldn't do that because it's a food safety issue. Oh really? Ok Mr. Bartender, do you wash your hands every time you have to get a lime? NOPE. Do you put on gloves? NOPE. My hands are probably much cleaner than someone who has been pouring drinks and clearing dirty glasses and dishes all night. And I promise you I took care to only touch the lime I picked up. Anyway, about 40 minutes in to our wait, the couple at the bar directly in front of us graciously told us they were leaving so we could take their seats. The blond bartender came over relatively quickly and gave us menus, though she did not ask if we needed another round since our drinks were empty. Since it looked we had another 15-20 minutes to wait for a table, I returned the pager to the hostess and said we'd eat at the bar. Silly me. Even though we were starving and immediately decided what to eat, neither bartender came back to take our order and left us sitting there for 15 minutes. I've worked in restaurants, I understand it's crazy busy, just tell me you see me and that you'll get to me as soon as possible. Yet the bartenders had time to ask a couple that sat down AFTER us what they would like twice. So I went back to the hostess and asked if it would be possible to get our spot back since the bartenders were not taking orders. I honestly expected to be told we'd have to go to the end of the line but she said no problem, we could have the next table and gave me another pager. Yay!!! Except we stood right at the host stand and watched 3 other parties be paged and seated ahead of us. So now it's acceptable to flat out lie to customers? Being told honestly we'd lost our place would have been perfectly understandable. But to promise us the next table only to have us waste yet another 15 minutes? Appalling. Oh to top it off, a fight broke out between two women at the bar. Four police officers showed up to take a report (I guess) though no one appeared to be thrown out. This must be the classiest joint in Frederick! Seriously, stay away from this dump. Clearly they don't care about customer service.

We love Bonefish, however, we only ever get appetizers. Anytime we order anything other than apps, we are sorely disappointed. Today, our server was Aaron J. Let me just say, he was THE BEST server we've ever had there. He was very attentive...filling our drinks before they were empty..brought us extra olive oil and pesto when we ran out but had more bread. But the cherry on top...we ordered a entree to split (kobe beef burger.) He brought it out cut in half...with the side split perfectly on two plates. Definitely didn't expect that! Unfortunately the burger was pretty pathetic. No flavor..had bits of hard fat throughout. Not good and not worth the money. But Aaron was awesome!

I need to start by saying I'm allergic to shrimp(not severely) but the bang bang shrimp here is EVERYTHING so if I'm going to swell up it'll be because of this ! lol I typically always get fish here, I love trying the specials that they have .. Hubby always gets something different.. Service is always excellent.. Wait time sucks but well worth it!

Can't go wrong, except for dessert, wasn't too impressed.

I often wonder why anyone would go to a chain when they live in Frederick and locally based delicious restaurants abound, but Bone Fish has its place. They serve superb cocktails at super high prices, and they ask top dollar for farmed fish like tilapia. Even their better fish like their seared tuna is devote of flavor. That being said, their brunch menu and endless bubbles deal is actually quite good for a decent price. When I want an inexpensive but tastey brunch, this ia where I go.

Normally I can't dine here because of the price, but I happened to have a $25 gift card and 15% off coupon so I was in!! Whenever you come here, you have to start with the bang bang shrimp, it is THE BEST shrimp appetizer I have ever had. The flavoring is so rich, creamy and delicious. Luckily I also came on a Tuesday when they have a whole lobster special menu, so I decided to indulge and get a two lobster tail dinner. I am glad I did too since the tails are a little small. Alongside that I got the white truffle macaroni. I'm glad the cheese did not completely take over the noodles too, the lobster was rich enough for me. Overall I have never been disappointed coming to this location or the one in Gaithersburg. They offer great service and fantastic food and a lovely intimate atmosphere. I will come here any opportunity I get!

When you travel all the time for work big chain restaurants are a double edged sword. You know what you can expect, and you know what to expect. Foodies with any adventurous spirit in them at all tend to avoid chains. Bland, expensive, and same - o same - o are usually my gripes for them. I had heard this place was good, yet seeing them all over the country I knew they are a shined up Red Lobster so I haven't gone out of my way to dine there. However, my buddy's boss wanted to eat there so.... Here we go. We got there and it was busy. Boss was already seated in the bar area. Server was extremely enthusiastic and chatty. First glance at the menu and I have to say, I was impressed. Nice selection, good variety of appetizers, what was coming out of the kitchen looked great (Not much smell like Franklins but in a seafood joint sometimes that is a good thing :) Ordered a martini which had kettle one olive infused vodka with blue cheese olives in it. It was... mostly good. Tasted more like olive juice than vodka but maybe that's how some want it. The cheese stuffed olives were very good. Prices for the liquor, beer, and wine were high in my opinion. Boss paid $5.50 for a bottle of Coors Light and Glass of Kim Crawford cost more than a bottle at the store (I go for the 2/3 rule which I made up as fair. $12 bottle of wine at store = $8 - $10 glasses... not $14 like here). Server pumped the lobster roll extremely high. So high, in fact, the boss and my buddy changed their order and went with it. He kept saying you had to be really hungry to eat it. I, at the last second, decided not to go with the lobster roll and got one of the fish specials. "Moonfish" with crabmeat and a sauce for $19 or only a couple more than the lobster roll sounded like a great deal. Plus, I wasn't super hungry so it made sense. Then came the wait. Probably 30 minutes before we got our food. Naturally, the lobster roll was tiny (6" or so) with a huge thing of fries. I am no expert on lobster rolls, but I envisioned giant hunks of lobster meat sticking out of a warm buttered bun. This, on the other hand, was shredded lobster meat hidden with lettuce inside a warm roll. The boss (from Canada mind you) said, "This is really just inconsequential. I thought it was going to be good and there is nothing to it really. I have eaten it all and I am still hungry." Which I am pretty sure is Canadian for, "This &#$*#@# SUCKS!" My plate was good. Fish was cooked right, sauce and crabmeat was an excellent addition, and asparagus was tasty. Problem I had was portion size. 4 oz of fish and a 6 pieces of asparagus tips for $19 didn't end up being near the deal I thought I was getting. Prices overall for this place are high for what you get. Then, as if on queue the server disappears. 15 minutes after everyone finished we finally get the bill. 18 minutes later they run the credit cards. Maybe he was chatting up all of his other tables. Or maybe the reason the place was so crowded was no one could pay and leave. Either way the work conversation was good enough we didn't care. Nitpicky stuff - A vodka martini... dirty or not, infused or not, should not be green. $2 per oyster for only bar patrons is nothing special. Don't act like it is. Overall - Meh. Food was good to over rated (see lobster roll), Service was typical at a chain, Prices were high. Same - O, Same - O without the cheesy biscuits.

I have been to Bonefish Grills all over the country and many times in the past. This lower end review is only because of the meal I just had. If you are a New Englander like me, it would be hard to resist trying the "New England Classic" lobster salad. But trust me resist the urge to try it here unless you think it is a good value to get about an ounce of lobster dry on a once- warm toasted bun with about ten French fries and some weird cole slaw with broccoli. No mayo at all on the "salad". It was good cold lobster but sadly not a New England Classic"

This place is awesome!! The food is delicious and we got it super fast! The service was great and the atmosphere is great. They have a bar area, a formal dining room, or outdoor seating; whatever you feel like that evening. Great experience here!

We went for their pre-mothers day special. We had the Bang-Bang Shrimp appetizer, and it was great (as usual). They didn't have Mahi-mahi that day, but the Tubot was on special and was wonderful. We split the dinner and it was light and buttery. They make the very best steamed broccoli, but we didn't get it because it wasn't part of the special. They served asparagus with the meal, and it was cooked perfectly too. They always have great service.

We love Bonefish! Their Sunday brunch is my favorite. For $20 you can get endless mimosas and a breakfast entry. It's such a great deal, and the menu choices for brunch are excellent! During the week, of course we love bang bang Wednesdays! The bang bang tacos and house salad are excellent as well. The place gets very busy on Wednesdays, so we usually do carry out. Their regular happy hour (Monday-Thursday) is also very good and I like that HH is available in the entire restaurant and not just at the bar. The service is decent. Nothing horrible, but nothing memorable either. We go here because the food is good!

Had dinner there earlier this evening and it was awesome as always! Perfect time to eat for Wednesdays are Bang Bang Shrimp half off day! $6 dollar delicious appetizer always works. As usual, atmosphere is perfect, friendly waiter and hostesses. The meal eaten were Grilled Tilapias and chicken tenders for the boy. Myself, the mrs, and our eldest daughter all had grilled tilapia. Cooked excellently and very flavorful. Jasmine rice, garlic whipped potatoes, and green beans !!! Definitely try this place whenever or even wherever there is one, you will not regret it!! A+++++ all the way!!

They always are busy so be sure to get there early and be prepared to wait a little bit. The food is really good and for an appetizer I would suggest getting the Bang Bang shrimp. The fish and chips are good and so are the fish tacos. To be honest I've never had any thing bad here. Yes you might have to wait a little while for your food but it's really good and well worth the wait.

I would have awarded zero stars, however, that wasn't an option. from the management to the wait time for our food it was a disaster. For Sunday brunch they ran out of eggs, champagne & potatoes/ Im sorry? Aren't those typically the most popular items ordered for brunch, maybe something you should stock up on? We waited for 2 hours & the management was absolutely rude when defending the terrible day. All in all it was absolutely horrendous & I'll never be back.

Have eaten here now twice, during my visits to the area. For a chain seafood restaurant they are excellent, the value for any plate is spot on. Great waiting staff and surprisingly fast, without feeling rushed Solid 4 :)

** Delayed review of a visit in late October ** First trip to the Bonefish Grill and my expectations were high because of reviews; food portions and taste appeared to satisfy. Upon entering this Frederick, MD location, I didn't feel a warm welcome and was taken to my table by a rude girl. Maybe not her day, but a first impression of professionalism in customer service is key for me when entering an establishment. My waitress was, for the most part, courteous. I must admit, I thought this waitress was a diamond in the rough. Friendly, and very easy on the eyes! She was busy with many tables, although I'm confident her workload was manageable; it wasn't busy. I throw "for the most part" in there because her attitude became inconsistent halfway through my meal. My ice tea was always topped off, last two times sloppily poured causing overflow due to the mass amount of ice. Her checking in on how my meal became rushed. I ordered the Rainbow Trout and was offered a larger portion. Larger portion? Not so much! Food was outstanding, but I left really hungry. Thankfully I was on travel, with per diem, because the meal was not worth the price! In addition, there was a table close by that was being prepared for a larger group, which became annoying. This location has great reviews, as does the restaurant as a whole. Off-night, perhaps. I would give Bonefish Grill another chance as the food was outstanding. I will do so elsewhere, however. At this time, I cannot rate higher than 3-stars due to some customer service issues experienced above, and leaving hungry. I do hope my experience and star-rate can change for the better.

I have always loved Bonefish, especially the Bang Bang Shrimp, but my most recent visit was terrible. One entree was missing key ingredients, the other was completely wrong. One of our sides didn't come out and we had to ask for it, when it came out it was the wrong side. When they brought us the right side it wasn't very good--ravioli sitting in pasta water, soggy and not appetizing. The incorrect entree was corrected but a manager didn't come out and speak to us and we ended up paying full price for less than stellar food, which we received only after multiple attempts at getting the right items. I gave up on asking for the missing ingredients for the other entree since it seemed like a lost cause. We were completely disappointed with the food and the service and will not likely be returning anytime soon.

i took a party of 11 here last night and was disappointed . SEveral of us got the Chilean Sea Bass. Portions were small and greasy. The kitchen was slow and the bread took forever. The waitresses were a little green and spent much of their time topping off the water glasses but we came to eat not drink. I 've been twice before and have been happy but after after a $350.00 bill and marginal food and service they have become too institutionalized and the its not special anymore. There are too many other choices out there. i will not be going back.

We've had a few couple of good visits with this location. Our last, however, was not as exciting/memorable as the first few visits. The Bang-Bang Shrimp is always great and the service is always good, better than many restaurants in the area.

Not sure what all the hype is about this place. Other then the bang bang shrimp which are awesome everything is average at best and over priced. My wife and I only go here when friends or family suggest it.

Food is good, but pricey for what you get. The bang bang shrimp is wonderful. Their specialty drinks are very good but way overpriced. The service is just ok. Many times its tough to find/get your waiter. The small waiting area out front gets jam packed and its terrible to have to wait there and it can be for a long time. They also jam as many people as they can in the booths and the tables are on top of each other. Its pretty loud inside.

I hate this place because I love it too much. If I could eat anywhere I wanted and money grew on trees- I'd practically live here. The bang bang shrimp bangs me in the mouth repeatedly and leaves me wanting more. I'd have it morning, noon & night if I could. Seriously. I'm in love. The crab and corn chowder is hot and rich and I'd also eat it every meal if I could. Every once in a while I'd slip in a filet to melt in my mouth and some bread to soak it all up. Here's to wishing my insides were nothing but bonefish's. M + BFG 4ever

We came with big expectations and we were let down. Small portions smothered in over done sauces sums this place up. I had fish that was under so much sauce I'm still not 100 % convinced it was fish. My six year old loved it. He likes ridiculous amounts of sauce that is extremely sweet. The shrimp was the consistency of clay. Wife had some halibut also under an enormous plate full of sauce. Maybe they should try fondue.

Will come back here just for the bang bang shrimp! I am hooked. The fish was good, but a bit over buttered/greasy. The sides were also excellent. Felt a bit too much like a chain restaurant, and had overpriced drinks. Kind of like a red lobster, but with good food.

Bang Bang shrimp Wednesdays. Need I say more? The Ahi tuna appetizer is a good starter too. They have even cooked fish with no butter or oil for me. Wolf fish is a good substitute for lobster but why compromise on that?

The bang-bang shrimp is pretty good, but I really enjoyed coming here for the fish. It's nice to see a chain restaurant take on simple fish entrees, similar to nice seafood restaurants near the Bay. For those types of dishes, however, quality really depends on who the chef is and where they're sourcing their protein. I've had hit and miss with this restaurant. That said, they're pretty open about replacing dishes. I've probably been to this particular restaurant four times or so with family, and I've sent back two of my dishes: once the Chilean sea bass and once their swordfish. The sea bass was overcooked (completely charred black and the chef still sent it out) and the swordfish was old and mushy. The manager apologized, and that was fine. He even went so far as to bash his own swordfish dish -- which was.. weird. I almost wanted to ask why he sent out if he felt that way about it, but it wasn't worth it. That said, I bet it's pretty high stress managing this busy of a restaurant that has food cost this high when your chefs aren't always on point. Also, I've been here while this restaurant ran out of their special dishes at 6 PM on a Wednesday. I'm not really sure how that happens. I guess it was really popular. In my opinion, this place is fine if you don't know how to cook your own fish. But if you do, you could probably do just as well and save some money by making your own dinner. P.S. Order the green beans, not the asparagus. Asparagus is good, but the spears are super thick. The green beans are the way to go. Also, like the other reviews note, this place gets PACKED. If you're looking for date night, this probably isn't the place to go.

I've been here a couple of times. Always have gotten the bang bang shrimp, because it's too amazing to not get. They have a sub par beer menu, which isn't a huge deal but worth the mention. I had a tasting of the calamari last time and it tasted great. Wednesday is half off appetizers too.

I don't know what has changed here in the last year, but it seems that last three visits we have made here have been disappointing. The service has been fine, but when I know I can cook seafood better than a seafood place I am not happy. We went last Friday. My wife ordered wolf fish grilled and I got the grouper "burger". both of our fish entrees were overcooked and cold. How does this happen. I would expect that it sat in the warming area as we were waiting a long while for our food to arrive. The last time we were there I ordered wolf fish rockefeller. The fish was overcooked, cold and the sauce had congealed into some spackle-like material that I avoided. I can say that at least on the last visit, they did remove the cold wolf fish from our bill. Like I said, their service is friendly and professional. It is the execution in the kitchen or the expediting that is the issue here.

Great food. Ordered the bang bang shrimp tacos and they were very yummy! I think the seating arrangements can be a little spaced out because you are very close to the people eating next to you. Other than that I had a good experience.

Things you should know up front: (1) I've only been to Bonefish one time so this review could change depending on my next experience, and (2) my wife is a strict vegetarian. (3) its been a while since we went - I'm just getting around to finishing this review. Okay... Had always heard good things about Bonefish, and had gone a couple of times but was unwilling to wait (usually a long wait time). Finally went to the one just off 15 in Frederick, determined to give it a try. When they finally called our name, we were seated at a tiny table really close to other diners. Our conversations easily overheard due to the proximity. The couple next to us were on a date, and a bit awkward, which was amusing. Anyway, I digress... My wife found precious little to eat. Usually she can find something substantial, but Bonefish offers...salad. Oh you could order a couple of sides as well. I am for the most part vegetarian, with the occasional foray into a delicious fish plate. I was determined to get salmon, and almost did, until my eyes spotted mahi Maui (seasonal?). I looove mahi mahi. I usually reserve my mahi mahi intake for The Main Cup in Middletown, but at the last minute decided to order it here. I had the option of the regular dish or large dish. The waiter explained that the large was a bigger serving, duh, but I tentatively ordered the regular. Big mistake. From the first forkful I was hooked (haha). Yeah, I didn't give this place 5 stars, but it wasn't the mahi mahi's fault. In fact, I'd like to give the place 3 stars because of the over-crowded dining area, unattentive staff (can we please have more water??), the chincey sides, and awful lobby service (she's spending a lot of time texting on her phone). We felt like they were doing us a favor and not so much like valued customers.

Called and made a reservation for Valentines Day and when I called to cancel they never had the reservation in the book. Glad we are going somewhere else, way to fail at a basic task whoever you are. I'm sure the majority of the staff can successfully make a reservation, but be warned; there's one slow person there...

We did a last minute date night. The food was good and fresh. Fast seating and service for a Sunday evening. The only thing was my drink was pretty watered down. The waiter was good on things like drink refills and keeping our table clear, but later I realized he never really asked us how we were doing or checked on us in a sense. Not a place that I'd rush to go back to, but I'd go back.

I have only made it in a few times but I have always had great food and amazing service. The bang bang shrimp is always a favorite when anyone talks about this place and who can blame them? Bacon wrapped scallops and soups are good as well.

Great atmosphere and very good service. We had lunch on a Sunday, it was not busy when we got there but picked up substantially. We had Bang Bang Shrimp as an appetizer, one of our personal favorites. My friend ordered the Oscar Omelette and I had the open-faced Salmon Skillet Omelette, both were big portions and we took home some of everything. We finished with the Walnut Brownie which again was huge and plenty for us to share. My friend and I hadn't seen each other in awhile so we had a lot of chatting and catching up to do, and the waitress was very patient with us and never made us feel like we had to rush. A great experience overall and a good dining experience especially for a chain restaurant.

Our server and the manager were very nice. But they made a slight error with my daughters meal. I had the salmon special which had good parts, but the overall combination didn't work. That was a disappointment. The calamari was rubbery. I was irked that some dumb server raced by to see a friend who was eating there.. In the process hit my wife's shoulder pretty hard. I was getting up to complain but she just wanted to relax and eat. Back to my daughters meal mix up, they did comp her meal and give us brownies which was very nice of them.

I'm adding to what another reviewer said: Corporate Chain Restaurant that just serves good food. I forgot that I was in a strip mall as well. Went there for my daughter's Christmas Dinner for her company team mates, I also wanted to spend some time with my new granddaughter. I have to say the food was great, I'd go again for sure

I know 4 stars seems pretty generous for a chain restaurant, but I really do love Bonefish. Of course Bang Bang Shrimp are the best, but I've never had anything here that wasn't delicious! Good calamari (not at all rubbery and really crispy on the outside) and good ahi tuna as well.

Come here for fresh seafood. I love the bang bang shrimp appetizer. The ahi tuna appetizer is also excellent. My favorite entree: The seabass. It's an expensive fish but well worth the price for quality and freshness. Service is always good. Place is always packed and very noisy.

Drove 600 miles and needed a place open late for a sitdown dinner in MD. My friendly Yelp app located Bonefish, one of my brother in law's favorites in Indianapolis, so I thought I'd see the fuss for myself. The fuss is the bang bang shrimp. It's just a terrific take on shrimp, however, it is very, very rich. And that seemed to be the theme for the evening. We ordered the Rhea's Roughy. Also, very rich and heavy. Ordered a fish sandwich with dorado fish. Not too bad. Certainly didn't have room for dessert. And so Bonefish seems to have gone the way of many suburban eateries and lured its clientele with our old friend butter. It must be said that everything was prepared and served wonderfully well. Dining area was simple and pleasant, atmosphere was great, and service excellent. I have no doubt that they could have prepared some nice, light dish for us had we asked, or in this instance, had we known the average dish would be very rich. Therefore, be ye warned, ye shant escape the rich sauces. Bonefish would likely get a higher rating from me, but I'm compelled to rate it based on the meal served. I certainly wouldn't mind returning, with careful reflection on my order. I know better for next time.

I was in Frederick, MD this past week and wasn't able to find too much that was convenient to get to from where I was to eat for dinner. As a result I found myself back here twice during the week. Both trips were rock solid. The first bonus was the happy hour - it runs every weekday until 6:30 and they have, among other things, Maker's Mark at half off FTW. The food they serve is a standard upper range chain quality - very good, but not outstanding. On my first trip I had a chicken dish with goat cheese and sautéed spinach (very good, but the chicken was a tad tough). On my second trip I went for the sea bass with the mango salsa (very tasty). The one big ding I have against them was the timing the second time around. I wanted a salad to start, but didn't get it for quite a while, and the meal came out not minutes after getting my salad. My choices were to either abandon the salad (which was what I chose) or to let my food go cold. All that being said, a rock solid place, especially for a chain.

I normally avoid chains like the plague, even chains that have fairly favorable reviews because I have a thing against cookie-cutter food...unless it's actually, you know, cookies. However we were having dinner with some friends who have a small child. Up in Frederick. In the middle of winter and cold. So our dining options were limited. I must admit that for an corporate cookie-cutter restaurant chain, it was remarkably decent. The restaurant is seated in the middle of the parking lot of a sad strip mall, however, the bar and dining room is warm and cozy. The decor isn't anything to write home about - it's rather standard for chains; dark wood paneling, low hanging ceiling lamps over each table, dark standard wood chairs and booths, but the room was a welcome cheery contrast to the bleak outside. Although we used the "call-ahead" service (as they didn't take reservations), we still had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. While not bad for a Saturday evening, it became a little frustrating, as we had an antsy and hungry 3 year old on our hands. When we were finally seated, our waiter was very friendly and extremely charming. Although he did the TWO things that irritate me beyond belief - writing his name on the white paper "table cloth", and going through the patter of the day's special at the speed of light. However, he redeemed himself in his recitation of the specials with an air as if he knew that it was a futile and annoying process. He recognized that the child with us was not going to be able to sit still for long, so he quickly got our drink orders and bread on the table while we read through the menu. He recommended the Bang-Bang Shrimp - which were very delicious! Hot, crisp and crunchy, they were a great start to the meal. The dipping sauce had just enough spice to make the shrimp interesting. Normally not a fan of deep fried appetizers, but this one was definitely worth getting again. We all got various fish for our entrees, and after the great start with the Bang Bang Shrimp, I was a little disappointed. Although the fish were all cooked well - juicy, flaky and tender - it was plopped down on the plate like a pitiful Denny's Blue Plate special. The slab of fish on one side, the side order of broccoli on the other, and a scoop of mango salsa in the middle. There was nothing to connect the three elements, they were just three separate lumps of food on one plate. If they could work on the plating a little - perhaps a lettuce leaf under the fish, or perhaps serving the salsa on top of the fish with the broccoli in it's own side dish - I would gladly give them another star. Why did they lose a star for something as lame as plating/presentation? Because we were in a fairly nice restaurant. Our friends were having a rare meal out. We ordered $20 entrees. Our meals, while tasty, should also be pleasing to the eye. I'm not expecting the same level of creativity as I would from Nobu or Citronelle, however, something as simple as putting the salsa on top of the fish would have at least tied those two elements together. The plating that we got was on the level of a greasy spoon or even my own homecooking. Not for a restaurant that was actually quite lovely. The dessert was OK. Again, I'm not a huge dessert person, so when my husband ordered the brownie sundae, I knew I wasn't going to have more then a few bites of it. It was acceptable, and my husband finished every last bite. One final "quirk" that made me feel confident in giving BoneFish Grill my 3 star rating, was during dessert. Our friends' child dropped her spoon, and our server was busy with two other tables. We noticed that there were 3 other busboys standing in the back toward the kitchen. We signaled to them - and two of them looked DIRECTLY AT US - then turned away. We signal again, and the third one looked at us, then looked away. I finally had to do the thing that I absolutely hate the most - I had to pretend I'm trying to land a 747, and wave my arms around like an idiot. Even still - the busboys stood around and finished their conversation up, before coming over to us to hand us a new spoon. Some of you might feel that I'm being harsh with my rating as our waiter was EXCELLENT and should not be penalized for his wonderful service. However, as the entire wait staff should be a team, poor performance by one (or in this instance, three) is indicative of poor management and lack of proper training.

The food is good, the menu doesn't vary much. If you can get in when it isn't packed, it is a pretty nice experience. A good place to go when you're tired of eating downtown. 3.5 stars.

Came in with 15 minutes left in happy hour on a Wednesday. They must do something right as it was very busy, but we sure didn't see it. Told it would be a 10-15 minute wait, so took the pager and went to the bar. 2 bartenders for a mobbed happy hour. My husband and I walked back and forth the length of the bar and waved at bartenders for 10+ minutes and could not get a drink. I hear they have neat specialty martinis, but there are no menus, signs or anything saying what they have or what the specials are... not that I could get one anyway. 30 minutes into the 10-15 minute wait, we were offered a taste of the BangBang Shrimp. Good idea. I wanted some. At 35 minutes we got a table outside. Young man took appetizer order and mentioned bread. He seemed surprised when we said we wanted drinks. He had never heard of a gin martini. They only have olives, no cocktail onions. We had water and had eaten half of our appetizer before the drinks came. Gin martini had way too much Vermouth. Watermelon martini tasty, but not $8 tasty. Noticed other waiters bringing drinks to tables and spilling them over the sides of the glass en route. At $8, I don't appreciate servers losing part of it before it gets to me. No bread. Nearly finished drinks and appetizer before waiter returned to take order. He did seem to know the food, except for not knowing what haricots verts were (even though they are called that on the menu) and he again mentioned bread. Food came pretty quickly. No bread. Didn't see server for 10-15 minutes at a time. My empty drink glass sat there and It was never suggested I get another. There was a large boisterous party who seemed to suck away all service the entire time we were there. At one time the manager came out and started bussing tables, including reaching across my face while I ate to grab some things, including the card that had the drink names that I might have liked to order. I do not understand places that seem to think their menu is top secret and snatch it away from you so quickly. She did ask twice while going by if everything was okay (I must have looked grouchy), but with her standing there in street clothes, holding piles of dishes and looking very frazzled, I didn't even feel like saying anything. In hindsight, I should have, but I really don't know if it would have made a difference. Waiter finally showed up again, my husband asked for bread. He apologized and said he kept trying to get some, but the other servers grabbed it all before he could get to it. He said he would try again. Showed up over 10 minutes later with bread when we were essentially finished with dinner. He asked if we had room for dessert. I said yes, could I see the menu? 10-15 minutes later, no menu. In that time, not one server or employee came out to our area. No one. We were there for 90 minutes to have one drink, one appetizer and the entrees. Oh yes. Bread for dessert. We finally went to the hostess and told her we needed to leave, could we get our check. When I mentioned that it had be waiting and waiting, the young lady explained apologetically that the large party was there for a long time and took up a lot of resources. Very nice young lady, but HUH? I'm sorry, but that is what restaurants do. The redeeming factor: the food was excellent. At $28 the crab cake platter is one of the biggest rip off's I have ever seen, but the ingredients were excellent. The crab cakes were tiny. At home I might make one sandwich from the crab in both cakes. But the vegetables were GREAT obviously very fresh and cooked perfectly. Here is the funniest thing. The filet mignon was INCREDIBLE. So we went to a fish place but we were totally blown away by the steak. Medium rare cooked perfectly. So great kitchen. The staff did very nicely ask if we would come back and give them another chance to take care of us. We will think about it the next time we're in the mood for steak and have already had drinks.

Here in Frederick on Travel for work. I decided to check outthe Bonefish. My wife and I go to the one near our home several times a year. If you like the cuisine at Bonefish, it is much the same as about anywhere else. They have grilled fish and seafood specialties. The quality is quite good. As far as service, my experience at this particular Bonefish grill was about what i expected. I went in on a week night around 6 pm and got seated right away and enjoyed my dinner with pleasant staff and timely service.

In Frederick, there isn't too many options as far as nicer restaurants or even fine dining. I would say Bonefish is somewhere between an TGiFridays and Volt Restaurant. They are still considered a chain restaurant, but at the same time they offer great food and service. Was pleasantly surprised that there is a Bonefish about 5 mins. away from our new home in Frederick. We have also been to the one in Alexandria, VA a lot too because it was so close to our apartment at the time. Bonefish is specializes in seafood plates, but still offers other entrees for those that maybe prefer something else. We always start off with a couple of drinks at the bar! Good luck finding a seat in Alexandria....Frederick location is not nearly as busy. If you are concerned about getting a table, you can call ahead to make a faux reservation (they don't actually take reservations, but if you put your name in earlier that day/week then you will get ahead of all the walk-ins...or so they say). Anyways, appetizers are great, especially the Bang Bang Shrimp and Calamari. I haven't met one person that didn't like the Bang Bang Shrimp. Their house salads are amazing...I think its the mainly the dressing though. The Pan-Asian Salmon is my go too, and my husband always tries something new...I think he has had everything on the menu! They will always have a specials menu, so it gives you something new to try if you are kinda like us and visit often! All their meals come with your choice of two sides and there is something for everyone. Creme Brulee is really good, and the Strawberry Shortcake (special) is delish! If you are looking for a place too celebrate an special occasion or just to have a great meal I think Bonefish is a great pick!

went for the first time last night and was really impressed! we called ahead and made a reservation and upon arriving were seated right away even during a busy saturday night. everyone was very friendly from the hostess to our server to the manager. our food was delicious and although my boyfriends steak was overcooked they immediately corrected the error. while he waited for his entree to be refired our server gave him a bowl of chowder on the house and after our meal the manager came over to check on us and took our appetizer off the bill as a courtesy. the manager was very friendly! i was very impressed with everything and left a very happy and FULL customer

The food and the service is always of the highest quality! I can never get enough of the infamous Bang Bang Shrimp. It is absolutely to DIE for. I will say it is a good idea to call ahead because it does get pretty busy some times! I've dined here many many times and have never had a bad experience with the atmosphere, my waiter/waitress, or the food. For such great seafood the price is phenomenal. If you haven't tried Bang Bang Shrimp yet you need to do that ASAP! I easily give Bonefish Grill 5 stars, without a doubt.

Say what you will about chains, but I have nothing bad to say about Bonefish Grill. We have always been treated very well by management & staff. We think they have great traditional flavors, as well as creative original flavors. They are more expensive than their competitors (Red Lobster), but they are MUCH better! In fact, they seem more like a privately owned seafood specialty restaurant than a chain. Keep doing it the way you are doing it, & we'll keep coming back and enjoying!

Recently heard a friend talking about Bang Bang Shrimp from Bonefish, and I have also previously heard someone talking about how good their sea bass is, when I was trying to take my friend to Cava this week and it was super packed, we decided to give Bonefish a try. For appetizer, we ordered the famous Bang Bang Shrimp and mussels. Let's talk about the mussels first...the mussels was not fresh..they were big in size, but the taste... And Bang Bang shrimp is Bonefish's take on the shrimp and walnut dish from Chinese cuisine, and it explains why they serve it with chop sticks. If you like Bang Bang Shrimp, definitely try the original, then you will see the difference. For entree, we had the special of the day - soft shell crab, sea bass, and the crab cake and filet mignon. Everything could be better, and the sea bass, the soft shell crab and crab cake all had the same taste...same seasoning..same sauce. After awhile, everything just tasted the same and I just got bored of the taste. By all means, I think Bonefish is a solid restaurant, and their food is well suited for the price tag. The quality is what you paid for. It's not going to be those restaurants that I will crave for or drool over, and there's nothing I had that I will feel miss out if I don't have it again. But if I am really hungry and I happen to see a Bonefish, I wouldn't mind eating there again.

OK, so this is my first official review in MD! Yay! Call me a food snob, but I rarely eat at restaurant chains these days because I generally regret those meals. There is no feeling quite like having an unsatisfying meal-yes? But I had lunch at Bonefish a couple of weeks ago and I have to say I wasn't disappointed. The infamous "bang bang shrimp" definitely banged my tongue in a good way. My Salmon Salad was almost as good as it sounded on the menu. ...complete with Asparagus, Goat Cheese (my fave), Fennel and mixed greens. But you know what gets me? Why do chefs put greens on the plate that you clearly can't get on your fork? I cant shove a branch in my mouth. Besides that everything, even the bread, was great! I might even go again....shhh just don't tell any of my other food snob friends.

We were visting and stopped in for dinner on Thursday night. We were promptly seated and our waitress was great. We had the bang bang shrimp as an appetizer and the shrimp were awesome. And then our entrees arrived. My husband had the swordfish and it was bland - not good, very disappointing since the appetizer was excellent. I had the fish tacos and they were disappointing as well - the fish was too fishy for the fruity mango salsa - just too weird and fishy. Other diners complained seating was cramped and we agree - felt like we were sitting with the guys next to us. Not sure if i would go there again for dinner, but would consider for just drinks and appetizers.

If you dine here, demand & wait for a booth!!! I wish someone had given me that advice before I dined here, otherwise you have someone's @ss in your face while you're sitting at a table. Many others have commented on the over-crowding/placement of tables on the dining floor. Staff is always cutting through (another @ss in your face), a customer is trying to make their way to the restroom (another @ss in your face), someone is exiting the restaurant (another @ss in your face), etc. Totally ruined our dining experience. Food was OK, but waiters/waitresses seemed understaffed as it took forever just to get basic water/iced tea refills. Background music is loud & matched in volume with the conversation of the adjoining table less than a foot from yours. This is not the place to go out on a date. Highly recommend Dutch's Daughter instead of Bonefish!

The place was crowded once we got there but we were immediately sat at an open table where you just had to find seats. I like the concept. The dynamite fish was great but the pecan encrusted fish I got as an entree was horrible.

We have eaten here a few times in the last couple of years. Food is pretty Good. Service is is generally attentive. The Bang Bang shrimp are good and the fish is fresh. They do seem to follow the way every other restaurant does and sit everyone in clumps. Last weekend we ate there and were seated right next to a table built for 4 but had 5 sitting at it. Every time someone walked by I had my chair kicked. It's one thing if the place is full but the place was 3/4 empty. They all do it. Just seems dumb.

Made a reservation for Father's Day dinner (I strongly recommend making a reservation here. They are very popular.) We arrived a couple minutes early and were seated immediately. Our server, Fernando, promptly took our drink order and allowed us time to look over the menu. He was wonderful. Everything came out timely. The food was delicious. We tried the Bang Bang Chicken as well as the Bang Bang Shrimp and both are worth coming back for. The entrees were great and came out as ordered. We had no issues and were impressed with the turnover. They were right on top of it. We will definitely go back and ask for Fernando. He was fantastic.

12.90 for chicken marsala and 2 sides? I'll take it. The bang bang shrimp is kind of a signature here so you should try it, even though I wasn't crazy about it. The price and the quality of food makes this a classy choice for an affordable dinner out. gets realll crowded during dinner rush so maybe sneak in early, or make a reservation.

Despite fair experiences in the past, I've started coming here more on the regular for a few reasons: 1) They continue to make special dishes for me. I'm not a fan of the bang bang tacos but they always accomodate my request of substituting cocunut shrimp for the bang bang shrimp in the fish taco dish. For $9, you simply can't beat 2 delicious tacos and a side (I usually get the fresh greens, which is more than enough to hold me over until the next day); 2) I've noticed that the crowds during the week have subsided and have never had to wait more than 10 minutes to get a table after 7 pm during the week. I've found that this is the place to come on Sunday evenings while everyone is home watching football; 3) The service is always professional and attentive; 4) The wine prices are reasonable. The food is great, the price is reasonable, and I'll continue to make this a bi-weekly trip.

I have been to Bonefish in Frederick a bazillion times by now. As chains go, this is one of the best for food quality, service, and consistency. We have only had one nightmare out of the bazillion times so I will write that off and not go into it (but they did make efforts to make things right). They offer happy hour prices on drinks and you can occasionally get a free bang bang shrimp from an online survey. If you join their online club, you can get gift cards for special occasions. This is a chain but performs well and is a great option for Frederick dining considering the lack of direct local competition. Definitely do call ahead seating on Thursday - Sunday. Yums: + Martinis- I get the $5 Svedka martini with bleu cheese stuffed olives. Svedka is middle shelf vodka and you cant beat that for 5 bills. I love their blue cheese stuffed olives. They are extra but totally worth it. + Appetizers: All are good; Great are the bang bang shrimp, calamari, mussels and ahi tuna. I tend to get apps here for my dinner because they are plenty and delicious. The mussels make a great entree with a side caesar. + Filet Mignon is always tender and i dont know of chain at this level with better Filet. Add the gorgonzola butter + Teriyaki Salmon, Parmesan Crusted Rainbow Trout + Add the Lilly's topping from the Chicken entree and put it on the Grouper instead (or any other like fish) + Au Gratin potatoes, green beans, caesar + add crab cakes a la carte + the bread before is hot and homemade + the flourless macadamia nut brownie with ice cream and raspberry sauce is delicious and reminds us of desserts from our honeymoon in Hawaii + if you are not happy with something, they will make it right + professional service Letdowns: - Long waits to be seated and a very crowded bar on Thurs- Sun nights. - martinis are poured inconsistently as 6 or 8 oz. depending on the bartender Pricing: moderate to spendy Atmosphere: simple, trendy Dress: business Casual, jeans and nice shirt Service: professional, polite Food: A- Parking: Ample and Free Wait: Monday-Wednesday usually none, Thursday-Sunday can be 65+ minutes, which is why i would suggest call ahead Overall Grade: A-
