Nice little sandwich burger diner joint in the middle of the quaint downtown district. Movie poster adorns where they shot runaway bride. no surprises with the food, i had the chicken cheesesteak. chunks of chicken as opposed to shredded chicken. good but not mind blowing. good sized milk shake which was the highlight. i expected the menu to have some more options but it really is just a place for basic hand held diner food.

We've been on an East Coast road trip for a month eating our way from Bar Harbor, Maine onto this great little stop in, previously unknown to us, Berlin, Maryland. This was one of our top two locally owned eateries (neck and neck with Quicks Taqueria in Woods Hole, Massachusetts). Take the short order cooks advice and try the Chicken Cheese Steak sandwich. It was delicious. Also, the service was both quick and homey with Rachael answering any and all of our questions and serving us with a sincere and familial demeanor. You can't go wrong here not to mention the surprisingly low prices and fantastic all American milk shakes.

Rayne's is so cute! It is like a step back in time to the 1950s. The burgers are actually very good (I am usually not a fan) and you can build them however you want (try it with grilled onions!). I would also recommend getting a handspun milkshake!

I was walking in downtown Berlin and the hometown feel made me want a milkshake. Low and behold, here was the town soda fountain and diner! From the décor to the menu, it's definitely a place that honors that diners back in the day. You can get ice cream, milkshakes, burgers, hotdogs, floats....you name it, you got it! I ended up with a hotdog and rootbeer float and they were great. The only thing that threw me off was the side of chips with my hot dog (not enough to deduct for, just figured I'd mention it). The server and the cook (they cook right behind the counter) were both super nice and food obviously comes pretty quick since they cook it right there! They seem to have a lot of repeat customers and it's easy to see why!

Stopped in for ice cream. Pretty simple. Very cool old building, over 100 years old. Worth the stop.

We stopped by on our road trip. Friendly service, cute atmosphere. I wasn't hungry when we came, but I had a small breakfast and it was good! Definitely a cool retro place. Take out the movie memorabilia, and you might as well have been in the 50s (but I really enjoyed that bit of local flavor with the movie posters, the place wouldn't have made the same impression without!). Didn't stay long in Berlin, but liked what I saw.

Cute little place in the town of Berlin. I also should mention that the movie Runaway Bride was filmed here. This restaurant was still advertises this. The milkshakes in this place was fantastic. Creamy and cold!! I had the egg salad sandwich. I had low expectations for this sandwich, but decided to take a gamble on it anyway. I am so glad I ordered it. It beat my expectations. It was the best egg saad sandwich I have ever had. It was creamy yet spicy. It also came with a side of chips. Another added plus was the price was reasonable. The downside was the waitress wasn't really attentive. She forgot a few things at our table, and brought it later. Overall, good, nice place, with reasonable prices.

ATTACK OF THE FLIES !!!!! Okay, so I guess they filmed a few movies here but let's get to the point. First off the atmosphere was really cool and that's what drew us in. It fits the town and makes you feel like you went back in time. The food was okay. My chicken sandwich was nothing to die for but you can't really do chicken wrong. I didn't think you could do ham and cheese wrong either, but it was just coated with butter. Yuck and Not my taste and my stomach didn't like it too much either. The worst part of the brunch was the flies. I spent the entire time defending my local air space from landing flies. It was kinda gross and made the experience a thumbs down. Had I noticed it before we ordered, I would have walked out but the old time soda jerk atmosphere kept me distracted long enough to not notice the dozens and dozens of flies. 5 stars for atmosphere, 3 stars for the food and a big fat zero for the Attack of the Flies !!!

Such a cute find in the "best small town in America!" We walked in after a local pointed us to some nice eateries in downtown Berlin. The place is run by high school students, and the decor seems straight out of the 1950s. It's a diner where lipsticked girls and striped-polo wearing boys with slicked hair gather for milkshakes, and drive away in their big-bumpered Cadillacs. The milkshakes are delicious, and completely worth the price. Burgers also cooked perfectly (you can choose to add a variety of toppings and essentially build your own burger, but cheese and bacon are a surcharge). Chips come with the burger for a great $7.50, but you can upgrade to applesauce or fries for $1 or so. Such a cute little place, with old props from when they filmed Runaway Bride and Tuck Everlasting hanging on the walls. Quick service too!

Good place for a decent lunch break while shopping in downtown Berlin. Nothing fancy here but good basic food.

Came to Berlin for a brief day trip and found Raynes reef. ANAZING. Great waitress, friendly and food was spot on. Going back each time we visit OC.

Cute town. Good chicken salad wrap. Great cole slaw. Superb ice cream!

  • Chris B.

The food I've had isn't all that great, but if you live nearby like me its the only reasonable option in walking distance. the prices were average, one day a week burgers are on sale. do not bother going during a town event, place is packed and they can't handle crowds. I went during the Christmas parade a couple years ago and ordered an ice cream. They took my money and didn't see the ice cream for 15 minutes until I asked them about it, then they gave it to me. All in all, not bad but if you have a car or you have a better budget just find another place.

Great food (especially the Reuben) and very pleasant staff! Very quick service and is the perfect lunch/soda shop.

Great little place in downtown Berlin. I was in town for a little bit and stopped in here based off Yelp reviews. I had a chicken salad sandwich which was pretty good, maybe a tad dry, but I would get it again. The staff here was amazing though, some of the nicest people I came across all day.

  • Karen M.

Very tasty breakfast. Wonderful service. Not too fancy just down to the basics. Great location in Berlin Maryland. This is the type of place where everyone that walks in the door is a friend of yours. Prices are reasonable and menu is simple. I had a veggie omelette with wheat toast and home fries for 7.99 and my husband had French toast two over medium eggs and ham for $6.99. Stop in if you're in Berlin Maryland next to Assateague State Park sometime.

Ordered a Chicken BLT and was more than enough... Lots of bacon! But when Amanda (the very nice (and beautiful) blonde who has been making shakes for 9 years) asks you if you saved room for dessert... Just say yes... The chocolate shake was amazing! The nostalgia of he place is great! Who knew Runaway Bride was filmed here?

Good service, friendly staff, and delicious food!! Milkshakes are to die for. "This is the best mint chip milkshake I've ever had." -My Husband (and that says a lot. He's had more than his fair share of mint chip milkshakes!!)

Needed a quick (and cheap) lunch on the way to do some sightseeing. We picked this restaurant because it's just plain cute from the outside! (Corner of the streets). Pro: Prices are good, Coleslaw was yummy! Free 2hr parking Con: Bread was a bit dry (for burgers), tap water tasted a bit "off" (even though it's tap) Has a bit of a diner/casual feel, but it seems popular with lots of locals and repeat customers... Would be kid-friendly in my opinion.

We were on vacation and exploring the Easter Shore of Maryland. We had heard about Berlin's being named one of the best small towns in the US so decided to check it out. I was craving diner food and there was Rayne's. Very diner-esque in appearance with counter seating and an ice cream bar, Rayne's seemed to fit the bill. We were there around 4/5pm - not quite lunch, not quite dinner time. So we shared the reuben and a strawberry shake. The food was great - good quality diner fare. The shakes were fabulous. The service was generally young but very friendly and inefficient. If you happen to find yourself in this area, Rayne's is definitely a reliable restaurant for a good meal.

Cute place. Chicken wraps were good. Too many flies buzzing around the place. Bathroom was out of both soap AND paper towels.

  • Michelle P.

Big disappointment. The floors and walls are filthy. The ice machine has no door, which is a huge health code violation where I'm from. Not sure if the health code is more lax in md. Filthy water pouring out into the ice machine. Waitress cleaned the tables with windex ( btw does not kill germs) and proceeded to serve drinks and food without washing her hands. Food was mediocre. Booths are very small. No gluten free friendly options what so ever. Blah.

Its a great place for burgers in the quaint little town of Berlin. They burgers are handmade to order with ground beef that is fresh and never frozen. the milkshakes are thick and creamy, made from Hershey's icecream and they have cherry and vanilla coke with real flavoring added (old fashioned soda jerk style) Simple and delicious. This place fills up for lunch very quickly so try to get in early. The staff is very friendy. Ive been there twice and i'd go back again and again!!!

  • Evan L.

The help is very friendly. Just plain nice folks. Heck, Brian remembers my name even though I only come in every so often! Blew me away the first time he welcomed me by name! While I still go to Five Guys if I want awesome fries, I come here if I want a good burger. These guys make the juiciest burger I've had in any restaurant. Yes, I'm more of a regular now. BTW, a "4" for me is the same as most everyone else's "5". I rate exceedingly few places a 5.

  • Peter V.

Disgusting from the minute we walked in, to the minute we left... First off, it's not right to welcome customers in by yelling to them to seat themselves. The place is all dirty with half of sandwiches laying all on the ground. Jumpy children and a cold atmosphere was not appetizing. After about 10 minutes of suffering in the cold area of this restaurant, we eventually moved to a semi-warm spot. With my luck, a yellow- jacket or wasp landed on my hair, which scared the crap out of me. Our waitress said they were out of rye bread for sandwiches. My aunt ordered a chocolate milkshake, which finally arrived after 15 minutes. It was vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. Should have been chocolate ice cream. By the time our food came, there was a hair on my potato chip, unmelted cheese on my burger, my aunt's cheese steak served on a hot dog bun, and my mother's cheese steak made of shoe leather. My advice, go to The Globe that's literally 10 ft away. (went here months ago not July 2013)

This is a review of their Saturday morning breakfast. A friend and it stopped in at about 10am for breakfast, and were surprised by the lack of options on the menu, but had already ordered coffee so we decided to stay. Basically, if you want something more involved than a breakfast sandwich, omelet, or pancake you're out of luck. We had hoped that a centrally located, all American joint like this would have corned beef hash, chipped beef gravy on toast, or at least biscuits and gravy, but were sorely disappointed. Not in the mood for eggs, I went with the BLT (which came with no sides) and a flavorless light pink tomato (really? in the summer??) that was OK at best. She got a veggie omelet that came with onions so well done they were nearly caramelized and super greasy home fries that looked like they'd been dropped in the fryer. The waitress didn't bother to bring water until we asked, which ended up being unfiltered and so full of chemicals we couldn't drink it, and only came back once to refill our coffees. With so many other breakfast places around, I'll definitely try someplace else next time.

It has a great view of the middle of downtown historic Berlin. Very cramped though. My craving for a burger and milkshake (which are also fantastic) has been satisfied. Will be back!

Consistently good food and service. Definitely get here before noon for lunch or it gets packed! I tried the reuben today following Brian X.'s recommendation. I've never had a reuben like this before! Instead of thinly sliced corned beef, it was a thick slice of the most tender corned beef. So tender you could pull the sandwich apart with your hands! The corned beef was complemented gorgeously by sauerkraut and swiss cheese on some seriously tasty and lightly seeded rye. Over zealously seeded rye makes for a horrid sandwich! I also love their fries. Nothing special, just plain medium thickness fries, fried well. Not a single fry is mushy. Their fry cook should get a James Beard award in frying. A vanilla coke to wash everything down and I can sort of get a glimpse of the luncheonette and soda fountains of my mothers youth. The mama is on a health kick, she had a grilled chicken breast and salad, but the chicken was done perfectly! A great place for everyone to have a nice lunch!

  • Pamela S.

Lousy ice cream, waited 30 min. For fries. Noisy. Skip this place. They serve Hershey's and you can buy that at the grocery store . Although there were fries on the counter we had to watch them set there while orders were made. Disorganized and poorly run. Go to the Globe or Atlantic. McDonalds is a better option. One dirty bathroom so be prepared to wait. Bring hand sanitizer.

This feels like stepping into Maybury and going to the soda jerk with Sheriff Andy. The decor is beautiful, classic Americana, and the menu is fairly simple but tasty fare. Interestingly, the burgers, wraps, or sandwiches always come with fries or chips. I ordered a salad to replace the chips when I ordered a cheeseburger...and still got a set of chips with my lunch. Not necessarily a bad thing, but worth pointing out. They also serve Hershey's ice cream in shakes, cones, or sundaes. If you're looking for an inexpensive lunch option in Berlin, this is worth the stop, but there's nothing that makes me say "Go out of the way for this."

Pros: Adorable little town, cute restaurant, good burgers. Cons: S-L-O-W service. I suppose if you were touring the town, trying to find a place to sit & rest your feet for awhile, it would be okay. However, as we were passing through & only decided to stop since we found it on Yelp, the slow service was more than a bit inconvenient for us. With several other interesting options in the area, I doubt we'd give it a second try should we pass through there again.

$7.99 for a greasy steak-um sandwich with pasteurized-processed yellow American cheese on a weak roll with stale chips. It seems is a business is going to charge high prices for food, the food should be good quality. The one plus was that the milk-shake was pretty good accept that the ice cream had ice crystals in it. Shame.

  • Joshua K.

The burgers were really great...you could tell they were quality. The milkshakes were great too...those two things are what they're known for! Nice little view of the downtown area too. Only complaint is that the tables are too close together for comfort. But no complaints on service, prices, etc.

After all the great reviews really wanted to love the burger here. Honestly mine was just ok. The cheesesteak here about the same. The service and the local feel to the place are the reasons to come.

Went during Cruiser week, so it was understandably busy. No sign or help from the staff to seat the many customers. After standing around for a few minutes while being ignored, I asked how we get a seat. A rude employee noted that it's first come first serve and made no effort to point people to seats. We ended up losing a booth to another group who came in several minutes after us, but went to the seat first. While we ate a bar (which was very dirty), the same employee scowled and yelled at other employees, making the meal generally hard to enjoy. To make matters worse, service was slow, and our pancakes were undercooked. I'm sure the experience could be much better on another day, when our food was fully cooked and the bad apple employee was off-duty. But not today...

Really good burgers. Cute little luncheonette. I like watching them cook the food. The owner, Mike, cooked our food and was very friendly. Our waitress didn't have much personality, but we will go back for the food.

Quaint neighborhood with friendly people, personable staff, reasonable prices, and the best Reuben sandwich I have ever tasted! I will definitely visit here again the next time I'm in the area!

Another quaint neighborhood restaurant in the proverbial Smalltown, USA. The food is your average burgers and the like. The service is friendly. The place likes to toot its horn saying how Berlin has been the backdrop for 2 movies, but I haven't seen either one, and being form the LA area originally, the fact that a movie was filmed here does not impress me. Still, Rayne's Reef, and the rest of Berlin for that matter, is a good stop on your way to or from the Maryland beaches. (Note on the beaches: if you like cheap, tacky, tourist crap, go to Ocean City. If you like nature and just relaxing on the sand, go to Assateague).

Classic old school soda counter. I usually get the same thing.... burger and fries w/coke. hits the spot, Thursday night is 1/2 price burgers, somewhat of an institution. If you need to get liquored up, there is 2 bars across the street.

Happy little antique-ing town. Went for breakfast, very good eggs and bacon, but the French toast wasn't good.

  • Tracie P.

Berlin, Md was the small town used as the backdrop for the movie Runaway Bride. This lunch spot which was used in the movie and still has a directors chair inside, is the spot where my family has enjoyed milkshakes (the way they used to be made) almost as long as we have been vacationing in the Eastern Shore. The BLTs and burgers are pretty good too.

  • Gadget S.

This place far exceeded my expectations, it's burgers are amongst the best I've ever had. Lots of great toppings available. The fries are totally satisfactory. Lovely old charm and friendly staff. Very good value for money. This place really is not comparable to five guys - it is far superior.

I love love love Berlin, MD. It's a really cute town about 5 miles from Ocean City, MD. While recently visiting OCMD, my mother suggested venturing off the beach and explore! So we did, to Berlin, MD. We had been in this cute little town for about 2 hours and we decided to grab lunch. It was the peach festival (lucky us) and we had asked some shop owners where a good place to grab lunch was. I feel like there were only 3 options..Berlin Coffee House was one of them..which has amazing blueberry iced coffee...that will be in another review...but we were suggested to go to the Atlantic Hotel. It was very cute from the outside, and we stepped in viewed the menu and then decided that the wafting of the burgers from Rayne's Reef was too good to pass up. We were completely right! Not only was this a filming spot for The Runaway Bride and Tuck Everlasting...it was a GREAT spot for burgers. I mean the BEST burgers I have had in a while. I rarely eat red meat, but every once and a while I will splurge and grab a burger if I think it's worth it. The burgers which you could top with your usual toppings plus mushrooms, bacon and saurkrat for the extra .59 cents...were unbelievably the item to order. They were SO juicy. The buns were just like the "old fashioned" hamburger. I don't go crazy on my burgers I just had ketchup, mustard, extra pickles, provolone, lettuce and some mushrooms. The staff is also extremely friendly. It's a cute small town burger joint that will take you back!

I had been wanting to come for a visit for a few years after reviews and advertisements. The food was average. My daughter got pancakes and bacon. The bacon was really well done to the point she thought it was burnt and didn't want to eat it. I had an omelette with cheese, mushroom and bacon It came with potatoes that were good but a little greasy and rye bread. I think the good and atmosphere is a little better at the Decatur Diner. If we do breakfast again it won't be here. It was just average and the menu wasn't extensive either

  • Gordon C.

Burgers are quite good as are the fountain sodas and milkshakes. You can smell their grill all throughout town. The kids seem to come by after school for a milkshake. They come in droves and get pretty loud, but it's all part of the small town charm.

    (4)
  • Breann H.

The food is good, and they have a great staff, just an over priced menu for the location. Its more like paying to go there just because they can say Tuckeverlasting and Runaway Bride had some filming there.
