I've been coming to Mr. Gyros for years, and I love it. I've been to Greece, and George's food is some of the best Greek food I've had. The gyros sandwiches are always good (I always add feta), you can get steak fries, skinny fries, roasted potatoes, or sweet potato fries with them. The salads are so fresh and delicious. The dinner entrees don't disappoint either. From the baked chicken to the gyro pizza to the roasted lamb, everything is delicious. They also make great little greek coffees, and their baklava and galaktoboureko is always spot on with a light sweet lemon flavor.

8.24.11 I have been needing a gyro fix for some time now. was out and about and tried this place. Service was good and prompt and gyro was everything one could ask for.

I know it's in the name, but I always get a gyro when I go to this place. It's delicious and quite filling and only costs 5.95 + tax. For $1 extra, it comes with a side of steak fries. I've been to Greece before during my Navy stint, and I have to say, outside of Greece, this place has the best Greek food I've had. It's not very big inside...maybe a dozen or so tables. The place feels dated, but that gives it some of its character. The staff are friendly and you can tell it's a family-owned business (I mean that in a good way). The menu overall is very good. The do have a couple of vegetarian selections (I didn't try, but just noticed them on the menu). I've gotten the hummus before and it's very good. There is very limited parking, but usually there's a spot available. They do carry a limited selection of alcohol as well.

Dined here on a weeknight in September 2012, using a Groupon nearing its expiration. We furnished the Groupon at the beginning of the meal, so it's possible that this may have had an effect on our experience. For reference, I judge service by how often I am checked on and whether my drinks get topped off. I also box leftovers for the complete "next day" review. We ordered Saganaki (regretted this), Lamb kebobs (bland), Gyro (meh). Service was pretty bad- there were 7 patrons across 3 active tables, and we had a nearly 30 minute wait between the Saganaki and our entrees because "it was really busy". And the waitress failed to check on our drinks. When we asked for refills for our empty water cups, we got them after the waitress closed out another table's bill. Saganaki: Made of mozzarella. Flamed and Opa'd at the bar, surrounded by waitstaff and bartender. Then brought to our table. Glaring problems: wrong cheese, where's my opa? While the online menu doesn't specify the type of cheese, I expected a greek cheese like Krasseri. Mozzarella just doesn't have enough flavor to support this dish. And the squirt of lemon juice doesn't quite complement mozzarella as well as it would a more traditional cheese. Given the nature of this dish, we did not box it. Lamb kebobs: bland lamb on a bed of overcooked, soggy, and bland rice pilaf. The lamb was cooked well, but lacked seasoning. The tzatziki sauce was a little strong on the dill but otherwise good. The lamb did reheat well and tasted far better with some home seasoning. I didn't bother taking any of the rice pilaf home (which speaks volumes for how bad it was). Gyro: Our entree came with well-seasoned by very dry gyro meat, flat pita, tzatziki sauce, and fries, which we substituted for baked potato wedges. No fresh tomatoes or onions. It's a very bare-bones gyro for $15. The gyro meat did not reheat well at all. It was simply too dry to reheat at home. Eaten cold, it was okay. Pita: The pita here is adequate at best. It looks like it could be made in-house, but the pita here is easily blown away by the prepackaged pita that some of the area college-greek restaurants use. Overall: We will not be returning here, nor will we buy another Groupon for this location. I also hope that other waitresses actually flame, opa, and extinguish Saganaki tableside. I hope that their gyro meat is usually more moist than what we received. I hope that their pita improves, almost as much as I hope that their service improves.

Ordered the gyro wrap for takeout, expecting a decent meal on the cheap from a decently reviewed place. The gyro was edible, but the meat was cold and the pita stale. Perhaps takeout is not the best option at this place?

the worst falafel I have ever eaten. as a vegetarian and a traveller I have had falafel all over the country and not only was it the worst tasting but also one the most expensive. 7 bucks isn't unreasonable for falafel in New York City but save yourself the trouble and go to Mona's where you can get the same thing except delicious and under 5 bucks.

This place has great Greek food and excellent service. I have eaten there several times and enjoyed it each time. The hummus, gyros, and falafel are all great.

Used the menu on Urban Spoon...apparently, this is not, or no longer, their menu... I ordered a gyro platter. According to this fine establishment, this particular platter is worth SIXTEEN DOLLARS. It did not come with any salad or hummus, but instead, relatively flavorless lamb, warm tzaziki, and potatoes that are DRY AF. To add insult to injury, they were kind enough to include NO utensils or napkins on our takeout order. Fool me once, GFY, Mr Gyro. That's the only sixteen bucks you'll ever get from me.

With not many Greek options in the New Orleans area, we decided to try this spot right next door to our Louisiana office. It's a small place with a nice bar area and dining room. It was pretty quiet when we were there because we decided to eat lunch later in the afternoon. The server came over to our table and got our drink orders and came back seconds later kind of just expecting us to be ready super quick. She seemed annoyed when we weren't. We got an order of the DELICIOUS fried artichokes and a couple of gyros from the lunch menu. I got the falafel gyro and Nate got the regular one with lamb. My falefel was really, really dry that I asked for an extra side of the delicious sauce that I am not even going to try to spell. After adding that factor it was a lot better. One other gripe I have is the price. I think it's ok, but not worth what you pay.

Got the wrong meal for takeout and it was too greasy. Bartender was polite but that's about it, and seemed upset at the kitchen. Once I opened my takeout I understood why.

Not really a whole lot in the way of Greek restaurants here in New Orleans so it's really disappointing that this one isn't very good. They meat they use in their gyros comes to the restaurant pre-seasoned. That should be enough to deter you. This information was provided to me by a waitress when I asked her what kind of seasonings they use (I have food allergies I have to be careful about). The chicken gyros are decent but I've definitely found bits of gristle in them more than once. There are daily specials and a few vegetarian options, namely a falafel gyro, which they always seem to be out of whenever I try to order it. There's a whole side of the menu devoted to non-gyro/traditional Greek dishes as well, of which nothing remarkable really stands out. In short, this place is a miss.

I ate here on Christmas Eve, I had been in the mood for a gyro for a very long time so finding this place was amazing. The food was fresh and delicious. Amazing size portions! The waitress who attended to us was very friendly and quick. I will be returning here as soon as I get back to Metairie!

I ordered take out from this place. I can tell they use frozen falafel patties. Mine were barely cooked on the inside. That was disappointing. Also the flavor on the mixed appetizer plate was a little off. I loved the baba ganoush, but the hummos tasted bland, as if it was from a jar. the grape leaves were the best out of everything i ordered. Maybe the place is better if you eat there.

The prices at Mr. Gyro's are really high for what you get here. The only reason to eat at this establishment is just for a gyro as the entree prices are just not a good value. I much prefer Acropolis or Byblos Market, as the food and prices are both much better. Mr. Gyros does do decent potato wedges but a lunch entree and iced tea will probably cost around $18 so for this type of food Acropolis is really a better value and better food. If all you want is a gyro this is a decent place to grab one but beyond that I would suggest elsewhere.

Ate there on 7-20-11. I had a taste for some Greek food. This place was okay. I've had better. The service and the atmosphere were good. My biggest complaint with the food was the seasoning. Just way too salty. When will people learn that salt is used to enhance the flavor of food. Way too many restaurants have chefs that are heavy handed with the salt. I may give it another try again in the future.

I am a fan of this place. I find their prices a little high, but they do give you large portions of delicious food.

While their facilities may be lacking their gyros are the best. We started the meal off with some great baba ganoush and followed it up with one of their gyros which was packed with very tender meat. Service was pretty quick and very friendly.

I have had a few decent experiences at Mr. Gyros, although it is certainly not my go-to for Greek food. The first time I got the chicken salad to go, and it was so overdressed that it almost made me sick. The hummus was ok, though. I agree that this place is a bit expensive for the food quality/quantity, but let me tell you something - the saganaki is absolutely the best I've had anywhere. The portion is massive - we were both full before our entrees even came, and it is perfectly seasoned with some sort of piquant vinegar or something. It was breathtakingly good. As for our entrees, they were just ok. I will go back, but I think that, for the money, we may just sit at the new fancy wine bar and just get some wine and cheese.
