When we had to wait at the front door for almost 15 minutes (even on a Saturday) at 5:30 before we were greeted by anyone, I should have taken that as a sign. When we got asked if we had reservations and a said no the hostess seemed perturbed. We were taken to a table out of the way and seated. Passing by the party rooms, they had groups. Also had one large table of guests in one part of the dining room, and another table set up for atleast 15. Maybe overbooked a bit? Our waitress was nice enough. Did advise us to order quickly to get in before the one party. We did. We ordered artichoke dip as an appetizer. It came out with bread that was not toasted at all, so you couldn't "dip". The dip also had an odd taste. We didn't care for it, and didn't eat it. They did offer at the end of the meal to remove it from our bill. Shortly after the dip came out, our meals came out. I had ordered the duck breast. I order duck often when out as it is my favorite. I was very disappointed in the very small size of the breast (honestly looked like 1/2 of a breast) for the price of $24. The cook was obviously rushed with the other parties. The fat was not rendered on the breast and the skin was not crisp. It was served on rosemary potatoes. I had also order Brussels sprouts. The sprouts had a great flavor. Unfortunately, the entire plate was swimming in the oil/butter they were cooked it. It Definitely took away from the meal. The man had the scallops. While they were reasonably sized and five to the order, they were not seared as they were described to be. They were served on over cooked pasta with an interesting Cajun tasting cream sauce. We both ordered pie, which was great. We had a $68 meal that was only so-so. Would certainly not have been acceptable at any restaurant in Louisville.

I'm sorry to be the buzz kill of this place, but after seeing the great reviews I really thought this place would be a hit. It wasn't. I agree with the review that says this place needs to be updated, and it did feel like you were walking into a funeral. Our waiter was really nice, but kind of odd. We started off with really good rolls with some interesting cherry butter that I really liked. My friend and I both ordered the steak and lobster for around $20. It came with all you can eat soup and salad. The salad bar was pretty typical. Nothing special, but a-okay. Our meals came out and looked pretty sad (see my photo). The lobster was over cooked. The steak had no seasoning. A few bites in to both, and my friend and I were ready to get the hell out there. MEH.

We were overnighting in town and wanted to have dinner at a non-chain. We did not have a reservation but they were able to seat us after a few minutes. The Stone Hearth was a little dated but in a comforting way that reminded me of going out to dinner with my parents in the 70s. I started with a martini which took a little time for our server to prepare, my sense is the staff do not have a lot of experience making cocktails. I ordered the prime rib while my SO hade the NY Strip. Both entrees came with the salad bar so we started there. The salad bar was pretty standard, I will say the offerings were fresh. After enjoying our salads our mains arrived. Bother were prepared as ordered and we both enjoyed. I had a glass of wine with my dinner. We shared a slice of cookie pie for dessert, it was a little disappointing. The service was friendly but not smooth. Overall we enjoyed and $70 for prime rib/steak dinners with drinks is not awful. So glad we went her rather than standard chains that were closer to our hotel.

Had a catered meal from here and unfortunately I was disappointed. The salad was bland to say the least. We were offered miniature corn on the cob and it was the best out of everything. The shredded pork was pretty good but not thick like most. Sadly I didn't get to try the hashbrown casserole since it had onions in it but it looked more like a soup than casserole. Not impressed.

It's a good place to eat, but really quite overrated. My steak was over-cooked, and that's pretty basic for an established restaurant. French onion soup is great though.

i had the duck breast and it had a good flavor but the skin was so chewy i had to cut it off and through it away and it was finished with dry rosemary, dry rosemary is like chewing on a twig. the kids got chicken pasta dish and it was terrible. it was a oily cream sauce with so many dry herbs, the cream sauce had a green tint. the wife had a steak mid well, came out mid rare almost rare, but had a good flavor. for this to be the tops of Etown skip it.

A 9 p.m. closing is too early for weekends. I didn't realize this and was treated to the sound of vacuum cleaners and made to feel like I was an intrusion. This spoiled a first date experience.

Fine dining? Yeahno. Offering black napkins to those in black pants to avoid white lint (~15% of the time - & I always wear black) does not mean fine dining. The staff is...well...chatty. I really try to be uniformly polite, but I don't understand server's awkward attempts to have 10 minute conversations every time they approach the table, for cripes sake. For the love of G*d, I want a nice meal, not "listen to strangers talk about their childhood" time. if we're talking non-chain restaurants where one can enjoy a glass of wine or a beer with a meal, this is one of the few options available in Etown (others being fairly meh Asian or Mexican options). If non-chain, non-ethnic food is what you're looking for, you really don't have options, absent at least a 30 minute drive in any direction. Hence the (existing) unbelievably generous average rating. Stone Hearth is known for being the place the local ptb's "power-lunch." They also do a fair amount of catering. Their exterior (& interior, frankly) are admittedly dated, but, if that were the only issue, I'd deal. Salad bar (which comes with dinner entrees) is pretty average (think better-chilled & maintained Ponderosa, sans block o'cheese); I absolutely *loathe* the soup bowls available for salad use...if they haven't been busy, less hearty bar items could bear a little "fluffing." Soup bar (which comes with any meal you order, lunch / dinner) offerings always include French Onion and a chef's choice soup, at least one of which is usually above average (quality on the French Onion varies, other offerings include split pea, veggie, potato, chicken, bean, etc., some are better than others). Soup station has soup cups on the left & saucers on the right, with spoons in the servery. (Just clarifying - I've actually seen more people than I would have expected make a mess trying to put their soup into a saucer.) Some people love SH rolls & accompanying whipped fruit butter. Frankly, I am not those people. (And do note: the photos on their website are stock - not representative of what they serve. This is not an 'oil & spices' for dipping kinda-place. They're at least 10 years away from that sort of novelty.) Mains...well...dunno. (Note: website is not updated with SH's pseudo-seasonal menu changes, there are more (but different) options on the current menus.) Taste-wise, I would say that you're best off ordering from the "Steaks" offerings, specifically, pork and filet haven't disappointed - and I've ordered them at least 50 times. Au poivre has been iffy, as far as sometimes it's tough, over-cooked and (at times) seems to mean "whole (uncracked) peppercorns pressed into badly cooked beef." If you've ever had fresh lobster, *do* *not* order anything lobster-related...theirs is all previously frozen tails only. Fairly sad. The chicken menu is full of stuff any beginner homecook can make. I have literally never had a chicken dish in this place (over two decades) that was worth my time. Pasta menu. SMH....I wanted to believe that I could get good pasta in dear old E-town (Painters - Painters - Painters!!! **vomits in purse**), but umyeahnonotevenalittle. When a supposedly "fine dining" (ETA: which is what SH was listed as for years, despite objection) restaurant can't sort themselves enough to put a fair plate of Barilla in a dish, I'm really not sure what to say. Not only does whoever comes up with their menu use their pasta menu as the graveyard for unsold proteins (consider yourself warned!), while jointly not understanding the point of different pasta shapes, they're making absolutely awful approximations of classics right & freaking left...Lobster mac & cheese came out the least appetizing orange-brown color food I've ever seen. This dish looked like cat vomit. Having a cat who, ya know, vomits, please trust that I know what I'm talking about washing off of the bottom of my slippers. "Carbonara" was not even remotely an actual carbonara...theirs is an extra-rich alfredo, swimming-in-broken-sauce with overcooked / dry (and flavorless - bonus!!! ;-/ ) chicken on-top, monstrosity. No lovely, egg-washed/cooked-pasta light deliciousness doused in great parmesan (in a hugely fatty way) with some crisped country ham. There was at least a cup of (separated) sauce on top of my "carbonara," as served. So - fine. People in Etown don't know shit from shinola, I guess...AT LEAST DESCRIBE WHAT IS TO BE SERVED. Don't freaking call it a carbonara when it's a mishmash alfredo dish featuring country ham. Name it what it is or describe it accurately (preferably both), and people who order it will at least have a fighting chance. And don't think you can get away with serving a sliced (previously cooked, chilled, and re-heated) piece of chicken breast on top, either. I've never risked their risotto, though I love the dish when well made. If anyone gives it a try, would love to get opinions...

Soup and salad bar here is awesome!! A tons of menus, and all of them are amazingly fresh!! French onion soup and beef noodle soup are both a must try for soup lovers!!

I have had good lunches before in my life. I have had cheap lunches in my life. But never have the 'twain met. For less than ten dollars, I got bacon-wrapped chops, a huge baked potato, and a side of green beans. Not only that, the entire meal came with all-you-can-eat soup. For ten dollars I was expecting something the size of a mini-burger. What I got was about two 6-8 ounce chops that rank right up there with some gourmet places I've been to. It was prepared exquisitely and really surprised me how much I liked it. True, the locale might make it difficult for me to come back, but as far as lunches go, I thought it was a huge selling point for going to Elizabethtown and The Stone Hearth Restaurant. Inexpensive, tasty, and the service was impeccable. My meal came to $12, but I put in twenty for my portion of the bill because the waitress was just so attentive and gave me the good tip about the entree and the dessert. Wonderful, just wonderful.

Stone Hearth had a salad bar and I love salad bars. However, if you are more of a healthy eater, Stone Hearth is not for you. There were not a lot of healthy options. The service was very good but I don't think I would return.

I would 100% suggest this place to others. We recently moved from DC to this area, and was looking for a special place to eat for my birthday. Did not want a chain, and wanted it worthy of a babysitter to watch my kids and escape for the night. Was not disappointed. Outside looks average, but inside it lovely....little white lights among ivy, tablecloths on tables, staff in tuxes. Cozy and romantic. Staff was very attentive and food was reasonably priced. I had queen cut prime rib ($21), husband had a king cut steak ($29). Salad bar comes with meal, but is not average salad bar and soups were fab (French onion was great!) Fresh baked rolls and berry butter come with meal (husband must have had 10 rolls, cheerful waiter came back several times without issue). Each of us had a loaded baked potato that could have been meal in itself. Key lime pie and coffee for dessert. Overall, excellent meal and memorable night. Thanks Stone Hearth, will tell our friends about you!

I cannot recommend Stone Hearth Restaurant. They would not accept my $50 gift card (imprinted with their name, no expiration date) because they changed their point of sale system and could not read the card...really. I had purchased the card about four years ago and had placed it in an envelope on a my desk for a "special occasion" and was so excited when I found it. There is no signage at the cash register that states we no longer accept gift cards beyond a certain cate. Our bill was $40 and the waitress initially took the card and brought it back to me stating, "We've changed our systems and can't read these types of cards." I asked for the manager and he stated the same matter of factly. After several seconds of awkward silence, he said he could give me 50% off our meal. The short-sightedness of this decision....I asked if this has occurred prior and the waitress said, "Yeah, it happened four months ago too." I will never return, nor bring business associates or celebrate employee's accomplishments at this restaurant as I have in the past. This cost them much more honoring a gift card.

We stopped here for lunch on our way to Nashville after scouting the Yelp reviews - all which were positive. I should have known when we entered and it felt like we were going to someone's funeral that we were in trouble. This place hasn't been updated since the 70s and could very well be the scene for a Burt Reynolds flick. Excited by the option of the salad bar, I started there and was happy enough with the options. No raisins, pine nuts or anything too crazy, but a decent selection. The salad bar was only $2.95 with any meal, so the price was reasonable. Our server was sweet - the reason for two stars. As was the hostess. But that's pretty much where the goodness ended. I had the Italian sub, which was greasy but only had two or three slices of meat, which seemed strange. As did the bacon on it? The huz opted for local fare, the hot brown. Impressive at delivery by its shear size, it was basically a half of a cold cut sandwich covered in tasteless gravy, a bacon and a tomato. He claims he would have preferred a bowl of pretzels and a warm Busch Light. The kicker was the babe's chicken and fries. Delivered last, the place was scalding hot, as was the food. I worked in a restaurant for years and am totally understanding of the fact that these often finish first and sit under the warmer for several minutes, but you know it's going to a baby - at least switch out the plate. Not sure who wrote the earlier reviews, and not sure how this joint compares to other places in town, but definitely be a little more discerning before you step into Stone Hearth.

Have to give this place a 2. The entrees are actually reasonably priced, but I was disappointed in the salad bar I was told was amazing. Not many fresh ingredients. Would be great if they added some fresh fruits. I then had flies in my water, yes FLIES not fly. On the other hand, my scallops were surprisingly delicious as were the Brussel sprouts and the bartender was very friendly and personable

Very very good food. The blue cheese/mushroom filet was an absolute treat. Salad bar was also good with a decent selection. Wait staff was exceptional and didn't try to over wait on the table. Prices were a bit on the high side but not when you consider the quality of the product being severed. Overall a winner!

This place is good. We went there twice in 2 days (of course, we didn't have too much time to explore, but still). The first visit, at dinner, I had a filet. It was cooked perfectly and the potato was decent as well. The salad bar (yes there is a salad bar) comes with your entree, but the menu doesn't say this. You are also served a roll (more if your server gets to you) at a time. My next visit was at lunch the next day where I had the chicken salad croissant. It was delicious. Salad bar NOT included :) It's a tad pricey, but the food is good and the service, while slow, is good.
