Came in and ate their buffet about 415pm. Food was bland, chicken was overdone and skin was not crisp. Lots of carb food, only one vegetable (green bean casserole). Will not return unless a last resort option and starving.

This was my 2nd time in Shipshewana, and I wanted to go somewhere different than where I went before. Last time, I went to the Blue Gate. While I liked their service and the atmosphere, I remembered the food being just fair -- and I didn't like the noodles (which I'd been looking forward to trying) at all. So this time, I decided to try the 5 & 20. The woman at the visitor information center said it was good and that they had a nice buffet. When I got there, I checked out the buffet. It was very small and had rather old looking food. So, I decided to order off the menu. First, I found their offerings rather uninspired; I almost left and went somewhere else. They just offered the usual fare of fried chicken, a few burgers, a steak or 2 and the like. I ordered the 2 pieces of chicken with a baked potato and tossed salad. The salad was small and very ordinary -- lettuce, a piece or 2 of carrots a bit of tomato. The dressing came in a little plastic carry out container. The chicken looked good, but it was not the least bit crispy. In fact, it was on the soggy side. Not at all what I would have expected. The "baked" potato was obviously microwaved: it was not fluffy as a baked potato is, the inside came off in chunks, and the skin was soft. It also had the pallor of microwaved foods. And the dinner roll was obviously packaged -- and tasteless. I only ate about half of my meal, so I took it back to my hotel with me. I was hungry a couple hours later, so I took it out again. Oddly, the whole meal -- including the potato -- tasted better cold. Perhaps I'm a bit of a food snob, but I was not impressed with the restaurant food in Shipshewana. (The stores and bakeries are a different story, however.) I will say that the service was pretty good and efficient, and the waitperson was nice and accommodating. And at least the iced tea was good and fresh.

Extremely slow service and sub-par food. Nothing about this place makes me want to come back.

we arrived at about lunch time, so it was crowded, but we didn't have to wait. I would say this is a typical restaurant, not to bad and gets the job done. You come here for a BLT and fries, or a salad with chicken kind of meal. They do have a good looking buffet but we didn't want an all you can eat meal at this time of day, we had a lot of shopping to do! I would recommend having your chicken dinner at Essenhaus down the street, and there's always the BlueGate, but this place makes a good quick stop. Their breakfast stops at 11.00

Obviously good price, more importantly the food is quality, taste good, and good proportion. Very friendly. We are from out of town but our 2nd time, in this area. We have frequented the restaurant several times. Only reason not a 5 star I wish there were a couple of more dishes.

Why all the hate with this place? It's a nice place to eat. On the weekends they have a buffet of Amish food, cheaper than all the places around. Just as good, if not better. The staff is nice. Bathrooms are clean. Foods good

It was average food for a low price. Nothing was bad but nothing was very good either. Most of the people in he place looked like regulars who knew what they were getting themselves into by eating here but we were not so fortunate. My husband and I ordered simple dishes. I got s club sandwich and he got something equally simple. We also shared an order of fries. The fries were severely undercooked to the point of almost being cold inside. I left them and just let my husband have them as I think he was just too hungry to care by then. My sandwich was okay but a little disappointing. I guess the art of a club sandwich is slowly dying because while there was a good bit of meat on the sandwich, it was cheap cold cuts. The only redeeming factor was the bacon. It was fresh and perfectly cooked to crispy perfection. Overall this place wasn't terrible but I wouldn't go back if I didn't have to.

Looking for quick lunch near flea market and found this place. They were nearly packed but no wait. I had the Market salad which was excellent and Nan had Fish & Chips also excellent. Service above average and price moderate.

The staff was noticeably confused and disorganized as soon as my family and I entered. There were multiple tables open and we weren't seated for about 10 minutes. Once we were finally seated it took at least 20 minutes for a waiter to ask us what we would like to drink and eat. Not only was the "sweet and sour" chicken actually just frozen store bought chicken, it was either mislabeled at the food bar or improperly prepared because it was actually covered in barbecue sauce. The corn was extremely bland and I also believe that was store bought frozen corn. The chicken pot pie was very distasteful and borderline unbeatable. You would think with so many local farms around the food would be fresh and not store bought but don't let the location fool you. If you are hungry after shopping at the Shipshewana flea market I would very much recommend not eating here. Save yourself the stress and awful experience and just drive farther out of town and order food somewhere else. Eating here was by far the WORST restaurant experience of my life.

The place was clean. The staff, nice. The food, so-so. You have to love white flour and sugar to really appreciate this place and, well, the area's food! For lunch, my husband and I split the 4 piece fried chicken dinner, only mashers for lunch (no baked) and added the soup and salad for $2. The chicken was pretty salty, not as crispy as we like it and the mashers tasted of margarine. The meal came with a cold white dinner roll which we don't eat. The bill was $ 15 with tip. Like I said, if you're a white flour and sugar fan, you'll be pleased.
