Pretty nice here for an all-you-can-eat buffet. The exterior of the building has some pretty nice stonework, and exudes an air of something a bit more upscale. Even on a busy Sunday, the interior was also very meticulously maintained which has to be quite the challenge when dealing with the hungry hordes. The food here is simple, somewhat southern, comfort food, For me, that meant my first plate consisted of nothing but pinto beans with ham and boiled cabbage. The fried chicken was hot and fresh, and you can also get small portions of steak that are supposedly cooked to order. I was not a fan of the steak. I asked the guy behind the grill for something medium-rare, and he pulled out a steak bit from a heating pan of liquid. Not only was it well done, it was parboiled. Yuck. They did have good baked potatoes, which made up a little for the great steak blunder. The desert selection was fabulous; all small portions, so you could sample without going overboard. Our server was fantastic. She kept up with our drinks, and kept us well supplied with warm dinner rolls and butter. Plus she offered us coffee when we reached the desert portion of our meals, which was a perfectly welcomed pick-me-up! Highly superior to the Old Country Buffet, which is their sister restaurant!

Don't try to take your leftovers with you, you"ll likely get lectured by management! My wife and I don't like to waste food and what we can't finish we like to take with us, apparently they prefer you to fill your plates and just leave it uneaten. Go figure?? Food quality varies depending on the time you visit as does service. Also it would be nice if the employees restocking the buffets would understand English. Food is very bland, no seasoning. We won't be going back here. ...............A Golden Coral would put these people out of business.

I went there twice with acquaintances. A lot of bland and unhealthy options on the AYCE buffet...The desserts were too sugary. The drinks are expensive. It is easy and free to park.

I was a little disappointed with the lack of dessert options but overall the food was pretty good.

This place was disgusting...I counted at least 12 tables from my view point that had not been cleaned...steak knives and utensils on the floor...the guys busting the tables were the same guys bringing drinks..so in the middle of cleaning other folks tables he would stop and bring drinks..with look like smeared mash potatoes on side of glass...yuck..the floor was so dirty...it felt like something was crawling up my leg...I had enough...didnt have the heart to go into restroom..will never come back here!!

I don't get it for those ppl gave this place bad reviews...be honest for this price is over my estimates!!! The service are very nice!!! They r quite busy so how can u require them so patient to you all the time?? My bf and I went this place twice and the foods quality r both very good! Steaks are delicious and tasty and juicy!! I mean to this place u pay $11.29 for a steak buffet is very valuable;)! Maybe some foods r not meet your expectations but overall is a good place to enjoy your meal! I am very recommend this place!

A blast from the past for us since our Comstock Park Ryan's closed years ago. The food was okay and the staff mostly nice and helpful. The restaurant though was a mess. It was Sunday dinner time but the floors were a mess and the restrooms were filthy. It could have been a better experience.

I've lowered the rating from 2 to 1 star. Terrible service! Spoke to manager and he said literally nothing. He could care less.

This is your typical buffet...trough-like. I'm not big on the feed yourself from a community trough, but I went here with family. We went on a Sunday and had a party of 6. It was semi-busy when we arrived. We sat down to a dirty table that soon got wiped & then we waited at least 20 minutes for silverware. Our tables both had all their plates full of food & no way to eat. The kitchen had run out of utensils. My advice....bring plastic if you want to eat right away. Our server was friendly and did her best to keep up with her tables. Finally we got forks and 1 knife to share amongst all of us. There were no napkins in most of the holders and patrons were borrowing from other people's tables just to get napkins. The clientele was a little underdressed I guess. People coming in with pants below their butts. One lady sitting across from my family (we had children with us) had a short skirt on and well let's just say she wasn't hiding anything and had no qualms with sharing all that she had. The food was pretty good. Had a cut of steak that was deliciously tender and we couldn't get enough of the huge rolls. The desserts were mediocre at best and the ice cream machine was out of order the day we were there.

This buffet is not great and certainly not terrible. I would say middle of the pack as to the food quality. There isn't as much of a variety as other buffets though. There are some issues that should be addressed soon however. The layout of the buffet is poorly designed. The two main serving stations are really close to each other and it gets clustered and crowded. I've seen countless times of people bumping into each other and their food flying off the plates to the floor. The interior of the building is way past the stage of needed remodeling. The wall paper is peeling on the walls especially up by the ceilings. The decor is outdated. The carpets omg I dont know anything usefull of them, they are sticky, smelly, and just plain disguisting. The bathrooms are barely acceptable. They stink. The wait staff seems to work hard and make sure they are doing their jobs, thats a big plus. All in all its not that bad as some suggest. I sure hope they bring this buffet back to its former self, decent and clean. Because its far from clean...

Me and my family used to love going to Ryan's. We haven't been in about a yr but went recently and it was distasteful. The restrooms were filthy. The food was average but overall appearance of the restaurant made you think twice. The desert bar had ice cream topping everywhere but the ice cream, counter, floor, ect. It wasn't the same probably our last visit there.

I don't understand all the negative reviews on this place. We've have eaten at this place three times while traveling through the area. When we have visited the place as always been clean, the food hot and tasty, and the service reasonable. I would guess that would be the norm unless you visit on an extremely busy night when it's extremely difficult (as with most restaurants) to keep the place pristine with high volume traffic. I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again when we are passing through the area.

Well, I did love coming to Ryans once in a great while but now I will never be back here. I remember when RYANS WAS RYANS. The food was really good and I mean GOOD years ago. I visited this past Saturday close to 3:30. When I was waiting in line some other people were in front of us and I am really sure they were charged for the lunch price because they mentioned if they still were on it and the girl said yes. When it was my turn the girl said we just changed over for dinner and have to pay the dinner price at exactly 3:30. I should have said something because that's not right at all. I mean the people in front of me are going to eat the same food. Well, the food is not good at all and had no variety really. IT's just the basic food items so it's not worth the dinner paying 30 dollars for 2 people. The desserts are terrible. No variety at all what so ever. Anyway, to make a long story short! The food/dessert are not what it was back in the day. It's all gone cheap. I won't be back.

The salad I had wasn't washed, the place was dirty, the quality of food has declined, understaffed, and carpet was black. Will not be going there again.

Save your $. Food was ok at best , but the restaurant itself was nasty.the floors were sticky, and the smell coming from the bathroom that lingered out into the dining room was nasty. The only good point of our visit to Ryan's was our server, Paula. She was on the ball and very attentive. But we will NEVER go to Ryan's again & I suggest the same to anyone reading this review.

It's a cheap buffet, so the food isn't going to be fantastic. It's good for what it's supposed to be. Clean and wait staff is attentive.

I was asked to have dinner here, usually it's not too bad. We ate here last night , the steak was good but all the other stuff was just low end food reminds me of a bad night at country buffet. But it was only $10 each !!! The desert table looked like it was worked over by unruled kids and no one cleaned it up . Never again! Now I know why we didn't have to wait !

The food was not very good. I found that things that should have been OK for me to eat as a vegetarian had meat in them (green beans, etc). I guess they are known for their steaks and everyone in our group complained about theirs. The only good thing was the hot rolls (in hind site I should have just eaten those as they were amazing) and the bread pudding which I hardly got any of since the pan was almost empty.

The cashier had an attitude like it was her last day working there. The floors were sticky and dirty. The bathrooms were filthy. The food selection is sub-par. If you read this review, please take my advice and go eat somewhere else and save your money...

I know that they are connected at the hip with Old Country. So I wasn't expecting much. On Sunday they do not serve lunch. They go from breakfast, straight to dinner? Great! 25 dollars for two people. I could have gone to a restaurant and gotten served. I went to the carving station 3 times and nobody would even look at me from behind the counter. Is that self serve also? If I had a pocket knife I would have cut it myself. I know all the food is straight out of a bag. But if you don't read the directions, it will turn out even crappier than it is suppose to. The Jello had a hard film over the top of it that you couldn't even chew. Yuk! The fried chicken tasted like the oil was burnt. The pulled pork was horrible. But the crowd was a delight to watch and listening to these broads talking about their kids crapping in their pants. If Walmart ran a buffet. This would be it!

I like buffets. That being said, I have learned not to expect to awful much from them. Ryans didn't disappoint or wow me. As expected. The service at buffets can sometimes get annoying if you get one of those waiters that hovers over your table waiting to Snatch an empty plate like a vulture waiting its turn at the dead wildebeest the lion pride is savaging. Or if your waitress totally vanishes just when you want a refill of your drink. But like I said, it was expected. The food on the other hand was great! And isn't that the real reason we subject ourselves to the sub-culture microcosm that is the buffet? Recommended: fried chicken, the sweet carrots, the mashed taters, the dinner rolls, the ceasar salad dressing, the banana pudding. Stay away from the sweet potato pie and the meatloaf. 'nuff said.

I am a huge fan of buffets, and not above eating at low dollar chains. I am, however, above watching a waiter eat the last half of a roll left on a table. Once a waitress brought me a drink refill while holding a baby. Same visit, more than three children running barefoot in laps around the buffets. Who cares how the food is, this place is too ghetto to even risk it. If you want to brave it, make sure you register with a new email address every time before you go, and print the coupon out. See, now the place is making ME ghetto.

There comes a time in every man's life where he is faced with tough decisions. One is faced with difficult decisions where all future happiness will be decided: baked or mashed & Steak, chicken, or smoked sausage, or all of the above. These were only a few of the questions that faced me this past Sunday. I shirked my responsibility and just went with all of the above! I love buffets and this place has an excellent selction for eveyone. They will make you a steak cooked to order and although mine was way more done than I wanted it to be it ws still a decent taste. They constantly kept putting out fresh food and athough it was a Sunday afternoon, the place was not overly packed. Everyone was really friendly and they kept out table clear of used plates. If you are ever up in Michigan City then stop by this place.
