Came in for an after work dinner with my hubby, our first time here. Our server was nice, and paced our meal well. It was about $48 for 2 entrees (big portions) which come with soup and salad- and 4 beers total. The restaurant side was closed, we ate on the bar side - which is definitely an off track betting place. We're not into that at all but they were playing good tunes so we liked the laid back atmosphere. Was hoping it would be a little cheaper since it was just a bar dinner, but will probably come back for another chill night or for dinner.

Just had a very nice meal. Surprisingly the soup was cold but the rest of the meal was great. Not a big track or betting fan so we sat on the restaurant side. Server was pleasant and treated us to a free appetizer because soup was cold. We will go back but only because it is nearby Not a date night type of place.

I haven't been here in about 3 years, but I had a Groupon so figured we'd check it out. We won't be going back. The restaurant side was closed so we had to go to the OTB side. Not really into the OTB crowd, but we made do. The Mai Thai's took almost as long as the appetizer, which we understand would take longer on a crowded night, but there were about 6 people in the place excluding us. The cheese sticks are good. They're different than normal cheese sticks wrapped in more of a deep fried tortilla. We decided to pass on the 1/2 price pizza. I had a baked Italian sausage. It was nothing special and the bread was burnt. My friends' eyes lit up when she said they had rotisserie chicken, but neither of them liked it nor asked for the leftovers to be wrapped. The big surprise came when the bill came and my 7-Up refills were not free. $2.40 each for a fountain pop. Even when we questioned after receiving the bill "Are pop refills not free?" the simple answer was, "Nope." I can see charging the guys betting on the horses, sitting in there all day and not spending any money in the restaurant, but when people come for dinner, stay for dinner and leave immediately after dinner, join the pattern of EVERY other restaurant in the world and offer free refills. If you're not offering free refills, don't have the waitresses act like they are free refills by asking if you want more pop and topping off a non-empty glass.

Great fun place! I guess all those other reviewers wouldn't know a good time if it bit them on the butt. I see a busy bar with a busy wait staff. I see couples having a great time. I see gamblers making wagers and celebrating wins. Maybe it's me. I guess I'm just a fun person not a stick in the mud.

We came here and really liked the food. I was surprised by the low rating on yelp. It is definitely an off track betting place, but they do have a side that's more like a regular restaurant. You always know you're in an otb though. We have been here a few times now and always been happy. The prime rib is enormous and tasty (when they are not sold out). The twice baked potato was good as well.

I have been to Nicholinos before. Both times the service was good. The five dollar burger is a good price but the burger tasted like it was cooked with vinegar. When we asked about getting a discount or free meal the waitress said the owner said he can't do that. She said he was having a bad day. In my opinion that is not a reason of why you can't cook a simple burger without it tasting like crap. Not getting the burger next time.

Discrimination. Don't go there. 90 degrees today, rode motorcycle with sleeveless shirt. They have a ban on guys dressed this way while t-shirts with holes and flip flops are ok. To top it off bartender had sleeveless shirt. This place is fishing for a law suit. The worst part is I like the place but wont come back. If you are a country club I can see it but come on, McHenry?

If you like good food, good drinks, at good prices this is the place to go. Oh yeah, and the opportunity to win some money. I have been here several times in the past and the ownership here continues to increase the experience in both the service area and the menu. If you are just looking to stop into a place for a sandwich and a drink by yourself or seeking out a place that can handle a large group of family and friends you will be satisfied with Nicolino's. I have also used them for carryout for parties at my home, lasagna and sausage was excellent.

Been here twice and will never go back. Awful service, bland food, expensive drinks. A pitcher of Sam Adams cost more than buying 4 pints separately. WTH?

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
