MMMMM.......Yummy goodness. Mel-o-cream is a small donut shop in the middle of a strip mall in Lincoln, and it has the best donuts around. My kids far prefer it the large chains. The cream filled has a bit of a marshmallow flavor and is a must get. They also have the regular glazed, cake, cinnamon rolls. Another great is the old fashioned, really nicely spiced, not overwhelming. The store itself is small with not a ton of seating, but they do serve coffee and will wait on you if you plan on eating there. The donuts are made the night before, and if you're around, you can see them making them and smell the yummy!

First, let's address the donuts. Coming from Chicago, where donut shops are certainly common place, we didn't expect to find some a fantastic shop in Lincoln, Illinois. However, we were being typically underestimating. The donuts are gorgeous! The varieties are impressive, too. These are your good old fashioned, delicious donuts. You won't be disappointed. We got to the shop right after closing, but the door was somehow still open. The lovely woman inside said she would still serve us, even though she was super busy and covered in icing as they prepared for tomorrow. We got an assorted dozen, but when we tried to pay, she said the cash register was closed! So she stayed open, spent time, and all the while knew she was giving the donuts to us for free. Amazing. Fantastic old fashioned donuts and fantastic old fashioned kindness. We will most definitely be back.

Eating here was a Sunday morning tradition for my mom and me back in the 70s. Since moving away from Lincoln in 1985, I have NEVER found a better donut or hometown vibe like Mel-O-Cream. These donuts are the BEST! I live quite a distance away now but am looking forward to returning as part of my birthday present request this year. :)

We're talking cream filled goodness my friends! Baked fresh served in the cutest little shop served to you by some very sweet wait staff who were nice enough to tolerate us annoying Chicagoans as we were on our way to St. Louis, but decided to take the scenic route and venture off the beaten path to see what treats we'd find... and lookie here, we found some awesome donuts. I suspect we will be back and we hope to blend next time and sit a spell on those really cute school desks they converted into tables!

This place has been a staple in Lincoln for years. The reason is because of the donuts!! They are terrific. The cream filled are heavenly. Sure the actual place isn't much to look at, but it's perfect because it illustrates how they don't want to change something that's worked so well for so long.
