Having never stayed at a B&B before, I was not quite sure what to expect. Well... I will say this: proprietor Dan and his girlfriend Lauren set the bar VERY high! We arrived on Saturday of Labor Day weekend a little after 6pm. We were greeted with chilled wine and cookies, and any place the greets me like that is ok in my book! The room was beautiful, complete with it's own bathroom! Stayed for two nights and it was very quiet both nights, even with all of the rooms booked. The food - outstanding! You can tell that Dan and Lauren put a lot of time and effort into the food that they serve. A very intimate dining room setting. The front porch is amazing - you can sit out there, drink your wine, and look out over the town below. I will warn you - it may only be two blocks off of Main Street, but it's 2 very hilly blocks! You can either walk down the street or you can take the stairs. Both option are very close by. This isn't a complaint, but I was a little unsure as to why there was a family with two small kids staying there, both of which seemed to be under the age of 10. I was especially surprised to see this considering the sign out in front clearly states "no pets, no smoking, no children under 14." I don't have kids, but I would not expect to come to a place like Felt Manor and hear small children running up and down the halls. I would say that it's really more of an adult place. The kids were a little loud at breakfast one morning, but other than that they were relatively quiet, so it wasn't too big a deal. However, Felt Manor is a fantastic place, and I would return without hesitation! It was very hard to leave, and that was largely due to the hospitality that we received.

We found a fabulous B&B in a small Illinois town called Galena. It was like finding "home". We love the Felt Manor! The views from the Felt are wonderful, the ambiance is fantastic as the rooms are all decorated in 1870's decor - ornate and posh - you can almost see the ladies and gentlemen of the era sitting in the front parlor enjoying an afternoon tea - or a cool refreshing mint julep on the front porch! The Felt Manor is situated high up on the town, and overlooks the main street(s) of the town. The steps leading up to The Felt Manor are charming, but you can access the Manor from High Street in the back - which will be easier. The Felt Manor provides wonderful service in the evening with a tour of the rooms and a good history lesson of the house and the Galena area. Dan (the owner) leads you on your tour, and also cooks a magnificent breakfast for you in the morning at the time of your choosing - we had Eggs Benedict - which was cooked to perfection! The Felt Manor has a seating area for breakfast, much like a restaurant, which is different for a B&B. It was actually nice to have a dedicated seating area, and breakfast that fit your schedule. The quarters are very "in the era" but the amenities are all modern. Almost every room has it's own en suite bathroom and air conditioning. The beds are extremely comfortable! The rooms are of different themes - we stayed in the "Susan" room - with beautiful colors and appointments. The views from the Susan room were fantastic, especially at sunrise. Our stay was definitely enjoyable, and we would come here again. We give The Felt Manor 5 stars! If you are going for a drive through Illinois, make a point to stay at The Felt Manor.

We stayed here last fall pre Thanksgiving. Having never been to Galena, we could not have been happier with this location. It sits up on a hillside overlooking the the quaint little town. That said, you won't necessarily have a "view" of that from your room. But that's OK because it's such a charming bnb in a beautiful setting. Like others have said, you can get the view this the front porch.Yes, it's a steep climb up the hill but we didn't mind that really. But if you are wary of that, you can easily drive to/from town it's a bout a 5 min. drive. I'd like to note that since we were there at the beginning of the week and pre Thanksgving, there were many stores that did not open up for biz. I get it, but we will likely go over on a weekend next time. Also there's a skiing area about 30 minutes from here.. we went there to check it out.. pretty cool. Onsite, we stayed in the "burgundy" room can't recall her name now, but it has it's own little bathroom (although, the configuration is a bit odd) the toilet and shower are together and tiny space, but the sink is outside in the bedroom. This is fine really, I suppose it's more authentic to be like this anyways. The shower had decent water pressure but is on the small side but adequate. There were no other guests when we were there for 2 nights so we had the place to ourselves other than the proprietor and his girlfriend and her doggy. They mentioned there would be a doggy prior to our booking, so we were OK with this. He actually befriended us and we just loved him back! The food was awesome here. That souffle and the twisted bacon.. OMG. they really feed you well. You will not go hungry! Wine was always available in the evenings. It was set out and you could help yourselves. The owner made us a fire the first day we were there but then we never got another one which was kind of a bummer as we sat downstairs quite a bit and that would have been a nice touch for us. Speaking of fireplaces and bed and breakfasts you'll see fireplaces in the rooms but ours was not a functional fireplace or electric. So if this is important to you, you may want to ask if your room has one or not? I think he said something about laws.... Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend and also stay here again!

We were lucky enough to get a last minute cancellation booking and we enjoyed our time here very much. My fiance and I really enjoyed the view from our room (Lucious Felt) and we had our own bathroom which was awesome, i heard some rooms share. You literally wake up to the smells of savory and sweet breakfast being made. Each breakfast is outstanding! I have stayed at many other places and this place serves the best I've had, so much thought and detail go into making these dishes just look at the photos I've posted. The 3 course breakfast keeps you filled until the late evening saving you money in the long run since even for dinner I was only able to manage something light. I think we were the only one's to truly utilize the whole house, we spent time on the porch listening to live music coming from the fair as we digested our breakfast. In the evening we sat in the parlor and the library reading up on some history and at night we sat outside and enjoyed the bonfire our host kindly kept going. They serve refreshments in the afternoon and evening which includes all sorts of pastries, cookies, drinks, tea, coffee and wine! My fiance and I had a great time and we will keep coming back!
