I had filet mignon cooked medium well, a baked sweet potato with brown sugar and butter and a salad. The food tasted quite delicious! The service was great. The waitress smiled genuinely and huge every time she came to our table and she filled our drinks when they were half empty. I am always pleased with their service anytime I go there.

Great service!! Ask for Betty, she is spectacular. Cheese fries are awesome. I will be coming back.

If I could give this place zero stars, I most definitely would. I visited this restaurant with my partner and my mother recently. The service was terrible. Our server was very rude and seemed annoyed that all we wanted was an appetizer because it was early afternoon when we were there. She didn't once mention that they had $5 appetizers that day. She mentioned that to the table next to us but not to us. If we would've known that, we would've purchased several appetizers. We all ultimately decided to order entrees because we honestly felt like we had to because the server acted as if it was a crime that we only wanted a single appetizer. Once we ordered, her attitude was a little bit better but nothing to write home about. Regardless if your table orders a minimal amount of food or not, do not treat them badly just because you think you aren't going to get a high tip. Irritating because we do tip extremely well if the service is great but this was not the case. My partner and I ordered buffalo style chicken tenders with fries. My mother ordered soup and a baked potato. My mother's loaded potato was not loaded at all. It had a teaspoon of toppings on it. My mother was extremely disappointed. Our entrees of chicken strips and fries was ridiculously small for the price. We had at the most 6 fries on our plate. The fries were not seasoned at all which was surprising because normally at steak houses, the fries are perfectly seasoned. The chicken strips were cold and the buffalo sauce was all dried up on the chicken. The sauce tasted like a cheap buffalo sauce. It honestly tasted like ketchup that had been mixed with a hint of buffalo sauce. For the price, we all expected much more out of this establishment. We will not return.

This steakhouse chain is really bad. You can see the quality of the meat and ingredients they use. Either they use really crappy meat or they cooked it really bad. The steak came out and it looked meager and pathetic. I was going to bring the leftvers home to my dogs, but I felt sick after the meal so I had to throw it away. The service was fine. The best part of the meal was the free bread they gave you. Very delicious. Don't come here for their steaks, or the food in general. Even in Southern Illinois, you can find so many other places that are better.

Love this place, food is inexpensive and I love the environment and the servers are real nice.

I went here a couple times in the last 2 years and was never satisfied. There has always been something wrong and two separate times I had problems with a waiter and I believe the owner. Yesterday though made me never want to return. I went for my birthday and wanted to cry based of how Lone Star totally trashed my meal and was unbelievably rude to me. After waiting a fair amount of time to even get seated, I guess it was too much to ask for some decent food. Mine and my husbands steak were suppose to be cooked medium and there was zero pink it was well done. They didn't ask me to cut into it this time and last time I asked to return a steak they actually made me feel guilty about it. Asking me if I "really want to return it or not?" 3 or 4 times and never taking it back. The steak was dry and chewy. I ordered mushrooms and onions and put that on my steak, but whatever they used to cook the mushrooms and onions made it so spicy. Even taking off all the mushrooms and onions ended up not helping since the juices were already all over my steak. I ordered a mix drink there, and I swear only an alcoholic could drink it. I ordered drinks from there before but it tasted just like hard liquor and nothing else. There was also no time to complain since they were too busy. I never ate so fast at a restaurant before just to get the hell out of there. I also didn't even get one of my sides until I was about to ask for the check.... Also the owner or manger is a total ass there. I saw him make a waitress cry in the middle of the restaurant and you can tell he was hounding her. He also was a smart ass to me and threw in "just kidding" after realizing it. He is good at sucking up to customers though, the people next to me complain and he said sorry probably like 100 times with the biggest fake smile ever... I'm never ever going make to this lone star unless it is under new management at least. I'll find somewhere else to get steak. It doesn't matter what time you go or when you go, your food will probably suck. If you like lone star, try to go to a different one and not this one!

Third time's a charm. Ordered the 8 oz. center cut sirloin, medium. When served they requested that we cut into our steaks to verify it was cooked to our liking. Glad they asked. Mine was well done. So, the server immediately said she would ask for another, medium. (The Lone Star menu defines medium as hot through and full pink inside.) as I waited for my second steak I sliced off a very thin piece of the well done steak thinking I might be able to eat it and enjoy dinner with everyone else. I was wrong. The thin slice was dry and tough. I managed to chew it and finish the one small taste. I had ordered a sweet potato and when it was served with the overly cooked steak, it too was well done. The skin was wrinkly (like the 130 y/o lady sitting nearby) and the potato mushy. I was able to find enough potato to finish what was edible when the second steak arrived. It was overcooked also, but not as badly as the first. As I waited for the third steak I did have a couple bites of this steak that were okay. The shift manager came to our table and said the steak would be complimentary and she also gave me two cards that were good for free appetizers on my next visit. When the third steak arrived it was cooked correctly. The shift manager had requested medium rare and it came to the table "medium" as defined in the menu. Overall the service was good. The steak chef, well, not as good as they could have been. It was nice, admittedly to leave with a check just over $16. Probably will return, eventually, but I must say if a Longhorn Steakhouse comes to Carbondale the Lone Star most likely will be a very lonely place. Third time's a charm.

The staff was great, very personable and attentive. My main 'negative' comment is the wait area...or lack there of. It was a busy friday night with many people waiting and were having to hover over the people sitting next to the hostess station, as well as, being in the way of the wait staff. I had a medium well sirloin with the chicken tortilla soup and broccoli. The best part was the soup. It was very tasty. The steak was okay, but kind of tough. And the broccoli was literally sitting in a pool of butter, not a fan of dripping broccoli. My husband had the texas tri and thought the steak was alright but not as good as Outback...and highly disliked the broccoli. His shrimp and chicken weren't bad, but thought they could easily be cooked the same way at home without much hassle. Probably won't eat dinner here again but may stop in for soup/salad and a sangria(it was amazing).
