Love this place! Great Martinis and amazing service!! Wish it would open earlier on Saturdays!

Great food, great people and the best selection of craft beer I've seen around. Really nice atmosphere and great fun. Really great tapas.

Little pricey, but the atmosphere calls for it. Bartenders are on point, except for one guy who cant make a White Russian or whiskey sour to save his life. Good beer selection. That food though. That's whats up.

Rugans is my go to bar for a light, friendly atmosphere. The martinis are incredible and unique. The food is delectable! The music is live but not too loud and always very tasteful. I'm a frequent visitor and that will never change.

Best martini & craft beer bar around! Great atmosphere, great place to bring large groups of people. They have a wide variety of different craft beers and the knowledge that goes along with it. The staff gives you excellent service. Not to mention the food is spectacular!

Go to Rugans and get their Sazerac tonight. I mean, stop what you are doing and get one now. For whiskey drinkers only. For serious. Best cocktail north for 40 miles. Yum.

Great place! Martini, wine and specialty beers. Tapas and small plate type menu. Guitar soloist. Sofas for relaxing. High tops and good size bar. Relaxing!

Got stuck in Illinois after a work trip and my colleagues and I were lucky enough to stumble by Rugan's. The service was both efficient and hilarious. I was also very pleased with the variety of tapas that were all cooked to perfection. This place is definitely worth a visit.

Wednesday night. Bartender was knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt. Mules we ordered were awesome!!! I can't say enough about the food. SOOOOOO GOOD! Awesome atmosphere. My friends and I will be back for the food/drinks and probably paint night that was going on too! A+++

I've come to really like Rugans. They're a great bar and an awesome place to grab a couple drinks with friends after work on a Friday. It's a nice seat yourself type place with both tables and a bar, so sit where you choose. They've got an awesome craft beer list with a number of local brewery's represented which I'm always happy to see. I'm not much for mixed type drinks but those that I have had here were worth the price. Keep in mind, it's not the cheapest place to grab a drink but I like the more upscale environment they've created so I'm happy to pay a little extra for that. They do have a limited food menu but I wish they'd expand on it a little more. I realize they're not a full restaurant, nor are they trying to be, but a few more food options would be nice. They have good live music here as well on some nights, which is great if you like that type of thing. It can be a bit loud on live music nights, so just be aware.

Great selection of beer and wine! Tasty small plates. Good service. Love the little patio for summer evenings. A must try in Antioch.

I love coming here! The beer selection is out of this world the food is great and Sunday bloodys are the bomb.

A gem like this shouldn't be hidden in Antioch. No, seriously. I love our little town, but this place has the feel, food and drinks of a big city bar. Hands down, the best food for miles. The martinis are outstanding. Try the pomegranate. If you're a beer person? You'll have no trouble finding something to suit your tastes. And the food, oh the food. The spinach artichoke dip is a fantastic starter, and I'm partial to the Chipotle chicken quesadilla, but I've never seen anyone order anything here they didn't like. And we frequent this place. LOL Reasonably priced, friendly and attention staff, and a relaxed atmosphere. Can't beat it!

I saw this place was listed as a wine bar, but they are really a beer bar. However, they have only two beers on tap, which I thought was sad. They have a paper list of beers in bottles. I visited with my girlfriend to have a drink and something to eat. It was approximately 6:00 p.m. We sat at the bar, and started with drinks. We both opted for the currently popular grapefruit ale. I was a little disappointed this was served from a can, since I know it also comes in a bottle. I believe cans should be only purchased by individual consumers and not served in a paying locations. But it was good all the same. The menu was small but had a little something for everyone. It listed several appetizers, a few salads and a selection of tapas. We asked about the soup of the day, which was listed on a chalkboard, but the bartender told us they were out of that one & she would need to ask what was available. My friend ordered the fish tacos, and I ordered Tuscany Quesadillas and the soup of the day - Cheesy-broccoli made with beer. The soup arrived and it did not look very cheesy. It was overloaded with broccoli, and that was all I tasted. It didn't have much flavor other than a bit too much salt. I only ate a few spoonfuls and had it taken away. Then, our tapas arrived. My friend stated the fish tacos were o.k., but not great. The Tuscany Quesadilla was not a quesadilla at all. It was more like a flatbread sandwich. The bread was difficult to chew and the food was very over salted. I ate one out of the four pieces. The price of the food was pretty high for the amount received. It was listed as tapas, but it was more of an small entree size, without the sides. I also wanted to mention a couple other things. Since we were sitting at the bar, we were watching a sporting event on the large screen t.v. Two couples walked in and one of the men asked another bartender to turn it to something else and he did so without even asking if anyone else at the bar was watching what was currently on the screen. I thought that was very rude. The amount of people in the place was far less than half it's seating capacity (and it's a fairly small place). However, the volume level was very high. People were yelling to hear each other and even sitting at the bar right next to each other, we needed to speak very loud. This was not due to loud music or any other external sounds. It was simply the way it was in that room.

The best Martinis at the best prices! Rugans has one of the most extensive list of Martinis for under $10 and they're awesome Ambiance and service is great here too! It does get pretty crowded on weekends so try to start your night a little early

Moved to Antioch in March from Chicago and so glad we found this place. Great live music and awesome small plates of food. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Extensive craft beer menu and creative cocktails. There is just a great relaxed vibe at Rugan's that my wife and I love. Best Bar in Antioch!

I was very pleased with our first visit to Rugan's. The specialty martini menu is huge- and thoughtfully they have listed what ingredients go into each cocktail. The beer list is amazing too; I am not a wine person so I can't comment on the wine list, but it seemed extensive. Small plate food items are their specialty and I was surprised to see offerings of cheese and fruit plate pairings for both "white wine" and "red wine"; very thoughtful. As the other reviewer mentioned- it's unfortunate that they put "tapas" on the menu. If they had written "Gourmet Small Plates" it would have been more accurate. Another reviewer complained that Rugan's "doesn't have a real kitchen"; I personally don't care if they beam the food in from the International Space Station, as long as it is well plated, fresh and appetizing. I might be an exception but I can't personally imagine that anyone else cares about if Rugan's kitchen is full or not. At it's heart, Rugan's is a bar that also serves food- it is not a Michelin rated dining experience by any means, but it doesn't pretend to be either. What's "full" about Rugan's is the bar and that's what I would go there for- drinks and good service. The "conversation pit" area is relaxing and a great place for 6-8 people to enjoy each others company. The leather couches were so comfortable that I could imagine curling up for a nap after tee many martoonies. Service seemed just right and the drink prices were good compared to some other similar upscale places in the North and NW Suburbs. Overall a great place to relax and have a couple of cocktails with a friend or two.

I've been to this place twice now, and I love it. I only wish it were it larger with more seating, because it's always so packed! Great crowd, great food, great drinks, great servers and bartenders and great music.

Rugan's is such a nice surprise in the middle of what can be a boring town, as far as dining and drinking goes. The atmosphere is cozy, yet sophisticated. The bar staff is great - friendly, attentive and they clearly know their way around the bar. I found a great German wine at Rugan's that I have not been able to find at other restaurants. I myself am not a beer drinker, but others that I have brought to Rugan's enjoyed the wide and unique assortment of beers offered. The prices are competitive considering the quality of the establishment for the area. There are little private dining tables in the back of the restaurant if you are looking for something more intimate, which I think is a great offering. These areas can also be sectioned off into party rooms. I actually booked my birthday party here a couple of years ago and reserved one of these rooms. Although the reservation process was a little disorganized and our waitress was just okay, overall, everyone had a great time and great drinks. The live music and relaxed atmosphere made for a memorable birthday. Rugan's offers the perfect place for a date, a larger party, or a girls' night out. I have only tried a few of the tapas options on the menu (it is pretty limited), but everything that I have had has been great. The chipotle chicken quesadillas, which are really more panini style, are the best!

I was introduced to this place about 3 years ago. To my astonishment Antioch finally had a classy establishment! The food is primarily of the tapas variety. I always get the Maple Chipotle Chicken Quesadillas along with the Roma Tomato Bruschetta. Basically, I could eat these 2 food items every day for the rest of my life. Service? Amazing! The waitresses are wonderful. They are very personable, funny, and are apart of the overall experience. The place does get busy on Friday's and Saturday's so occasionally there may not be a seat open, however, all the employees do their best to make sure you are comfortable. Entertainment- Friday's and Saturday's consist of live entertainment. REALLY GOOD musicians come from all over. I especially like Gina Gonzalez and Mark Harrod. Drinks- They have it all! Martini's? Check. Wine? Check. Beer? Check. I especially enjoy their Pomegranate and red apple martini's. I'm not a big fan of wine, so I have no insight into that portion of their menu. They don't have any beer on tap, but they have many different brands in bottle. In fact, they have a "beer fraternity" which consists of 60 or so different beers. Basically if you are looking for a night out on the town or something to do for date night, this is the place to go.

I went to this place for the first time last night, though my family hangs out there often. It's a little tapas restaurant and bar in Antioch right in the downtown area. (I went at about 9pm on a Saturday night, more for live music and drinks than for tapas. Hopefully someone else can add a review on the food.) Rugan's has a pleasant, well lit atmosphere; a bit more upscale than you'd normally think of for Antioch. There is live music, mostly acoustic, some nights of the week, and the audience is involved. They have a full bar, including martinis, wine, and many microbrews. If you are a microbrew fan, consider joining the "Beer Fraternity" where you drink beers from a list and when the list is complete you get...um...satisfaction? Seriously, I don't think there is any reward for drinking all of the 40 or so beers on the list. It's just a journey to go on as a beer lover. Interesting note about this place - there are a few "private" curtained-off tables, I'm assuming for romantic dates and the like. I haven't seen this at many places, but definitely thought it could be appropriate for some.

Best beer selection in all of Lake County, by far with decent prices. Martini's are great, priced correctly, and most important... made by real bar tenders that know what they are doing! I do appreciate you finally allow sports on the one large screen TV, I come in more for that alone so I can drink premium beer while watching whatever game there is that night. The one that needs to change and the only reason not a 5-star...the LOUD music they have blaring to a point where you cannot even talk to the person next to you. Although we have been there numerous times, we have also walked out after one drink numerous times because we could not talk. Remember, "less is more". Your place way too small with tall ceiling to have anything other than acoustic. This is a common theme with locals when decide to go out - "Rugan...if they do not have a band"

Great beer and drink menu. Most of the tapas are pretty good an come out quickly. Staff can be a little snarky from time to time which is a little bit of a turn off.

Love love love bartender Dave and love the beer, so yummy, but the one time I ate there it was a let down. So rugans as a bar, its the best. Rugans as a resturant, leaves you wanting more.

I love going to Rugan's because I know sean (see previous comment) will be there, and if sean's there, amazing things WILL happen. Also my old gym teacher is always there. ALWAYS.

Hip, relaxed atmosphere, and definitely not what you'd expect in this remote border town where a shot and a beer go hand-in-hand with mullets and camo clothing. They have a great craft beer list and the wine selection is deep and affordable. However, if you are expecting a true Tapas restaurant you will be deeply disappointed. Their Tapas menu is more like a fancy appetizer menu: cheeseburger sliders, quesadillas, stuffed portobello mushrooms, and a fruit/vegetable/cheese platter. Only 10 items or so available and no goat cheese with tomato sauce! No Gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp)! Most egregious of all: no sangria! Prices for the 'gourmet Tapas' were relatively high, ranging from $6-$12, which made it difficult to order more than 3 or 4 items without breaking the bank. Service was unacceptably slow considering the simplicity if the food we ordered. I mean, 10 min to get a basket of bread? This was after we received our fruit/cheese platter which was supposed to have the bread served alongside it. Half the platter was eaten by the time the bread arrived. On the plus side, they had live music and the acoustic duo that night did a great job and added a lot of atmosphere. I went there expecting a Tapas bar a la Emilio's, Cafe Iberico, or Cafe Ba Ba Reeba, and was let down. If I were there without that expectation, I would be pleasantly surprised by the sophistication and quality of the drinks offered there. And for bar food, it was way above the norm.

This place is great, did not expect this in Antioch. This place has a great atmosphere. The beer selection is top notch and the wine and Martini list goes on and on and on... Food was great as well. They have live music on most Thursdays and weekends. Will definitely be going back !!!
