We stopped at Seven Villages restaurant on our way home from vacation. We were disappointed when the Caesar salad with grilled chicken came to the table made with with nearly all iceberg lettuce! The tomatoes were void of flavor my friend ordered the grilled chicken Caesar as well because the menu states that it's made with romaine lettuce. (She has severe abdominal pain when she eats iceberg lettuce.) The TV near our table was playing an info-mercial on men's prostate issues the entire time we were eating.

Terrible. The waitress was rude, didn't make any effort at all. Just said, "what can I get you". She was apparently incapable of carrying a tray so she brought dishes out one at a time. My hot turkey sandwich was cold, the gravy was a mass of brown goo, and it was so salty that I sent it back. She didn't apologize, ask me if there was anything else I would like, offer to have it remade. She just rolled her eyes and took it away. She didn't ask the kids what they wanted to drink even though the kids' meals were supposed to include a beverage. I would have liked to order something else in place of the turkey but her attitude was so off putting that I went next door to Casey's and had a bag of chips for dinner.

Food was ok. Service was decent ... Nice but slow. Wouldn't go again! Wish we would have ventured out of the hotel.

Breakfast was good. My son loved the pancakes. The server was very nice! I recommend for breakfast.

The breakfast was excellent and the "Amana Muffin Bread" was especially great. It is a unique cross between sourdough bread and a muffin in bread form. Also, the American fries are properly made and that seem to be rare these days. We had 17 in our group including kids and had superb service. Oh yeah, the homemade jelly was awesome. It is also for sale at the cash register.

I was under the impression that places in the Amana Colonies were supposed to serve fresh, hot, local, family-style German food. We stopped here specifically because someone told us that this is what they did at Seven Villages (I-80 Exit 225, east of Williamsburg, Iowa). I heard the food was high-quality. I heard the service was great. I was even told that this place served German food. None of these are true. I wouldn't come back to this place even if they offered me a free meal. If I am ever forced to eat at a place that is off of this exit, I'll go to Maid Rite. I'm not sure what happened with this area known as "Little Amana" but there used to be several good restaurants here, including the Ox Yoke which I KNOW for a fact served German food. Apparently the whole place is going downhill because we stopped here on a Saturday afternoon and we were the only people in the entire restaurant. Other than the Casey's next door this whole area was a ghost town. So, Seven Villages it was. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a very annoying waitress, who decided it was job one to tell us about all of her problems before we even sat down at the table. She gave us a three-minute talk on all of the issues she was having with her family, her car, her life in general. Much more than we needed to know. She was friendly and apologetic about the menu and chef, but still would not stop talking. The menu has a lot of items on it, but they were out of basically half of the ingredients needed to make the items on the menu and then our waitress told us that the chef shouldn't be "bothered" with any dinner items for at least another 25 minutes. Seriously? He's not willing to cook a "dinner" item (which costs more than the lunch items and would definitely make them more money) because it might be more work for him? Sorry to bother you. They have about a dozen burgers on the menu, yet they told us they were out of patties but had the beef. Again, is it a huge problem to take meat, mold it into a patty and grill it up for me? The food they did have was not good. I had a hot ham and swiss cheese (which, by the way, had to be made with crappy American cheese slices because they were out of swiss). The ham tasted good but was low-quality. Very stringy and gristly. The sliced American cheese was not melted. I had fries and they were alright but in bad need of seasoning. Others in our party experienced much of the same. My mom had a salad and she said some of the lettuce was warm and on top of that, some was not edible and smelled funny. They have a gift shop on the restaurant where you can by Amana-themed gifts but it was closed. Seemed strange to not offer hours on a Saturday. They don't have their own bathrooms. You have to go into the attached hotel and through a chlorine-scented hallway (there is a waterpark inside the hotel) into the bathrooms, which were pretty dirty considering the place was more or less vacant. Moral of the story, don't eat here. In fact, don't even go off of Exit 225 unless you really have to for some reason. If you are going west, just wait 5 minutes and you can eat in Williamsburg. There is a nice café there (north of I-80 by the Casey's) called Landmark (been there many times before). If you are travelling eastbound, just keep going until you get to Iowa City. Many choices of services there. Avoid Seven Villages if at all possible. Terrible restaurant.
