Having grown up in San Francisco, I never had a chance to frequent restaurants where you park and order your food from a machine located right next to your parking spot! So I was very excited to come here and get the experience people had decades ago! It was a busy night but there were still some vacant parking spots for us to park, order and eat. I ordered the onion rings and a cheeseburger. The food was good and service was fast! They take credit cards and cash here which is a huge plus! We left full and happy!
Wonderful family owned burger joint...my mom actually worked here like 60 years ago. All the classic burger n fry choices plus they have fantastic broasted chicken!

I have to agree with Julie A's previous assessment. The food is only average, but we enjoyed our visit because of the old time booths with phones to order for yourself. and the car hops bringing it to your car. It felt like a step back in time, all the orange vinyl in the dining room. The chilled glass mugs still in use. Its worth a visit for the visuals alone, order with care, maybe a root beer float.

This place has been owned by the same family for over 50yrs! This is a must eat whenever you're cutting through central Iowa! The resturant and history are 5 star, the food is 3 star. Friendly staff.

Two stars for the setting, very cool nostalgia. Food though... sort of like a bad McDonald's. Burger was about the same as McDonald's, but it was a lot drier because it had clearly just been taken out of the freezer (why else would it take 8 minutes to make a burger with no line?).

Eating at this A&W was like going back in time. Great food and a great retro atmosphere.

The food is average. The burgers and fries are comparable to any fast food joint. However, if you're looking for nostalgia, this is the place rocks! The frosty mugs drinks were served in were wonderful! The home made Root Beer was excellent! The decor is orange retro. There are even old fashioned telephones at each table so you can place your order without standing at the counter. I really felt as if I were back in the 70s! It was a fun experience. The staff was very friendly too! I'm sure I will return again at least for a coke or a root beer float served in a frosty mug next time I'm passing through.

It's an A & W and it's exactly what you'd expect. Delicious, terribly bad for you fast food and awesome root beer. I had a great experience at this location and will certainly be going back. The cheese fries are awesome!!!!

Stopping at A&W is a fun throw back to childhood. I enjoy their many options instead of just "fries" for the side of anything. If you're eating inside you go to the table and when you're ready pick up a phone handset there to call in the order. Be prepared for sticker shock however. This isn't your mom and dad's A&W. Anything other than the basic burger and fries will set you back what a dinner at a regular café might. But the nostalgia, genuine A&W root beer floats and tasty options make this a place to go for a special treat.
