Mel Rose Place, not the stupid soap opera, one take out place! This is a staple of the Kaneohe Police Department. After they get off their shift in the morning, they're over at Mel Rose Place for breakfast. the prices are good and the proprietor is friendly (even though she might be too busy to talk sometimes and looks a little bitc, I mean...irritated). She makes the stuff at home daily and then cooks it up for you. Forewarning, she closes when she wants to! Her hours say 12:30 but if she feels like going home at noon...NO SOUP FO YOU! Anyways, her stuff is always good and keep an eye out for her specials. She makes some good stuff. If you're a breakfast person or if you eat an early lunch, this is definitely a find. Just don't come too late. :)

Very Ono! Small local friendly place. They treat everyone like family! Everyday they have specials, Pastele stew, luau stew, tripe stew, full blown Hawaiian plate , salt pork watercress soup, Nishime, pork and squid, turkey neck soup.....the list goes on. I go for the Kona's- lupcheong and Kim Chee fried rice or the turkey sandwich. Go for breakfast and talk story with everyone sometimes we end up staying for lunch! Came across this on yelp. It is a far drive from our hotel @ Waikiki beach, but we want to try the local Hawaiian food. It is definitely worth the deivw. I highly recommend this restaurant. You have to try it.

Driving around the island, my husband and I were getting hungry and looking for a good place to eat. Found this place and when we got there, I was a bit skeptical with the ambiance of it. Wasn't too sure if the food would be good. I ordered the French toast and my husband ordered the laakea's fried rice. They were both amazing!!! We definitely want to go back before we leave!!

Me &bf got the hash loco (it's like a loco moco but with a corn beef hash pattie instead of hamburger) &it was good. The ladies here are super nice &made us feel at home &it's not like the fake aloha you get at most restaurants. Good food, good service, cannot go wrong! This is where we'll be stopping whenever we got stuff to do on the windward side :D

I hate to be a complainer, but it's 10am and I smell like breakfast. Bummers... 1. Older Korean (rude) chef/waitress/cashier. 2. My Mom asks for water and she says, "You buy water bottle, my water chemical". Ummm, yeah right lady! I'm thirsty! 3. I'm guessing the venting system sucks because I smell like portuguese sausage and eggs and feel oily. (ewww) 4. We had to shout our order over the counter. Good points... 1. Lots of parking 2. My Dad (retired Honolulu Police Officer) LOVES the joint. You think Police officers are at donut shops? Nope, they hang out at Mel Rose Place (on duty, in uniform). In fact, my Dad gave a hand shake/hug to a police officer on the way out. If Dad likes the place, it's worth smelling like portuguese sausage for the day. 3. The corned beef hash & rice was good!

Was lured in by the mom and pop appeal but was sadly disappointed. Ordered waffleS off the menu, got one for 5$, ordered three scrambled eggs, received much less. Asked for potatoes and asked if they were out of a package-- was told no, was given cooked hash brown patties that were frozen and packaged. Although the bill was only 15$ so that's a plus. In the end she apologized, so all is well.

Hiding in a dim lit room, in the corner of a building, where parking is only limited to 30 minutes, and holes in the walls are a unforeseeable sight is Melrose Place! A newly discovered rival to the longtime Kane'ohe kingpin of breakfast: Koa Pancake House. Immediately upon entering I felt like I had just penetrated a stranger's actual kitchen. But almost subsequently, I was welcomed in open arms by a couple of friendly workers. When seated, I was anxious to taste their food. Unfortunately, the food took a while to get on the table but when it did, "a while" vanished from my mind's dictionary. I was surprised by the wonderful plating and delicious food. In addition, the reasonable prices and generous portions contributed to an overall satisfying experience.

Awesome service, right when you walk in they will greet you. It feels like eating at home, the waiter and the cooks are super friendly. We got Hawaiian food to try since we've never had it before and the food was delicious. They even gave us fresh guava! Definitely coming back next time we're in Hawaii!

Awesome customer service. When you walk in you're greeted by a friendly Aunty. It's a small place but cozy. You can sit wherever you want. My boyfriend and I got the French toast (comes with one egg and a choice of Portuguese sausage or bacon) and the Kahaluu special ( eggs, fried rice and one big Ono corn beef hash). I would definitely come back!

Hidden gem in the heart of kaneohe. (Only the real heads know about it). You can taste the love they put into each plate and watching her make my food she looked happy to be making it. Really homey atmosphere (not the gang type) and choke food for the money. For the same amount as a McDonald's meal you can get a nice home-cooked meal in a relaxing environment. You are practically a part of the kitchen as you dine-in. Support the Locals and try dis spot. One of the best loco mocos hands down and her specials vary from butterfish laulau to salt meat watercress. Chee hoo!!

I go here whenever I'm in the mood for lup cheong fried rice (awesome-ness on a plate). It is a little hole in the wall located in Kaneohe Atrium. The owner/chef's are a family and you can see them cooking from the open kitchen. They are super friendly and will try to make anything you ask within reason. Be sure to check out their daily specials and check all the menus for yummy food. I have only gotten take out but the eating area is cozy for small parties. Everything I've gotten here from the french toast to the fried rice specials to the steak and eggs to the hash has been fabulous. Check it out if you have time and want to avoid the windward mall crowds.

A great little spot that is awesome for true local Hawaiian breakfast and lunch. Staff is super friendly and chatty. Best fried rice I've had- not too sweet like other places. Highly recommend for a truly local experience.

Breakfast here yesterday, great experience! Small shop, super friendly staff. The boyfriend and I had the specials. My Hash Moco was amazing, Kona rice was yummy. Their coffee was surprisingly delicious. I like to drink my coffee black but at most diners the coffee is bitter and burnt and I have to add creamer/sweetener, not the case here. You can't see it from the street but it's worth the search for breakfast in Kaneohe!

Don't understand so few stars! Local to da max and although the selection isn't large, what they do have is ono and worth the price. The Kim Chee lup cheong fried rice had a honking whole sausage in it, I swear, not no manini tidbits. You could see, chew and taste both the lup cheong and chunks of mild kimchee. Sunny side egg on top and bro couldn't finish it. Well, true dat but could have been the ono chop steak and rice chaser he ordered. Big, meaty strips of beef, green peppers and onions was well seasoned and salty good. Not bland, this place! I had the Hawaiian plate and was very happy except for the turkey tail laulau. I axed for pua'a laulau. Not the waitress's fault. I heard Sista Lorraine order me the pig laulau. So kitchen lady, c'mon. Sorry but minus one star only because I HATE turkey tail. Would I, should I, could I have axd for another one? Yes, but we were starving. Too late. The long rice, hoooo chock full of ginger and skosh green onions. Perfect. My opu, as they say, too much nui nui! Lorraine, daughter of the owner was doting, fast with the bottomless coffee and pitcher of fruited iced water. She and her mom whom I met for the very first time are sweet, helpful and as you've probably read by other helpers , like family. The best part of a family. Cheerful, humorous, helpful pleasant, kind and generous. Extra dis and dat kine! My only disadvantage is not bring able to get out Kaneohe side too often. But if I hear of a day they have salt beef and watercress, (I went there for that but neva have that day, shucks!) AM SOOOO THERE! Old school style hospitality, the prices are good, the food is ono. They aim to please! In Kaneohe? Go! Sista Lorraine goin' hook you up!

Kahuluu Breakfast of corned beef hash, eggs, and fried rice, preceded with an order of sweet bread French toast hit the spot for all three of us. Reminded us of going to Uncle's house to say hi and staying for breakfast. Even the guava/strawberry-infused water was yummy!

Small and intimate place to eat right next to the mall. The staff was very friendly! There are only a handful of tables, so it's group friendly. The food is pretty good. The Kona plate is kimchee fried rice with lup cheong. The French toast was good and the steak, eggs and side hash brown was also pretty good. Every item that we ordered was under $10. Good enough to come back, but I think we will venture off to other places to try before we make this a regular spot. Located in Kaneohe atrium.

The place was a tad bit difficult to find and once we did find it, honestly my friends and I were not super impressed. The place had a cute, comfy, and "grandma's house" feel, however there's something about being in such a small room and watching/hearing the chefs prepare your food be hide a small wood cabinet. Our waitress was extremely sweet and friendly, truly did enjoy getting to know her. The food was just ok..had the famous "kimchi fried rice" and it was mediocre at best.

Mel Rose Place is a GEM! My hubby found this place on Yelp, and we decided to give it a try. He had the hash moco (DELISH!!), and I had the Kona lup cheong kim chee fried rice (LOTS of lup cheong...yum!). We got there around 9:30am this morning (Sunday, June 28), and there was NO LINE! SCORE! Our food arrived quickly, and the service is AWESOME! Although the space is a little small, I told my hubby that it was like going to your friend's aunty's or grandma's hale to eat! I wish I got everyone's names, but our waitress and the cook were super friendly...just like talking story with long-time friends/family!! Before we even got our food, my hubby said, "I already know the food going be good...they cooking to Hawaiian music!" That's exactly how my hubby likes to cook...Hawaiian music blasting in the kitchen! We will DEFINITELY be back!!

Not the most well-rounded breakfast, Mel Rose Place serves up a variety of good carb-heavy dishes. The Kim Chee rice was nice, but too simple and lacked flavor. The stand-out meal of the bunch was the BLT on wheat: generous serving of thick bacon and fresh lettuce and tomato with a thick mayo that gave some much needed moisture. It was actually terrific. Service was sweet and warm - it felt like we were eating in someone's living room (a messy living room). Overall, a good spot if you want to feel like a local, but definitely not a place to bring a date or if you expect a healthy meal.

This place is amazing, I never ever write reviews but I would highly recommend this place. From the food to the staff, it exceeded our expectations. We found this place on Yelp and gave it a try, you should too. We arrived 10 minutes before they closed and they welcomed us with open arms and chatted us up eagerly while we were there. The food is delicious so don't be fooled by the "hole in the wall" appearance. It's in the atrium so find a parking spot, order some grub and say hello to the sisters who craft the amazing dishes.

This is definitely the place to go for some good and local breakfast! I've had this place bookmarked since I moved to the island and finally found it to try this morning! It's a hole in the wall, but definitely a local gem. The ladies here were sweet and friendly. It took a bit of time for the food to come out but all was freshly made to order. We tried the steak & eggs with kona lup cheong kim chi fried rice and the loco moco with the laakea's fried rice. Highly recommend either of the fried rices, but the kim chi was my favorite. Also recommend that if you're gonna get the steak, get it cooked the way the the chef wants it done; we requested medium-rare and although it had a nice sear, it was very (too) rare. Tip: very limited seating and cash only!

WONDERFUL!!! The food is fresh and delicious and the owners are so friendly! The ambiance is similar to that of mom's kitchen... The restaurant is small, brightly lit, and welcoming with simple, yet meaningful decor. Major feels, man. We came around 11AM on a weekday and fortunately, parking was no trouble at all despite the kinda small lot and the restaurant was relatively empty. No wait.. Yay! After we were seated and served strawberry guava flavored water (which was absolutely delicious and refreshing), we ordered the local scramble and turkey cranberry sandwich. Both dishes were really yummy and tasted like something straight out of mom's kitchen. There aren't very many options on the menu and we only tried two dishes, but there's no doubt that all the other items on the menu are equally delicious. Extremely pleased with Melrose Place! The owners are sweet as ever and the food is definitely made with love. Came with grandma and she's extremely picky, but she loved this restaurant as well. If you haven't already, you must try the yummy dishes!! And if it's not too crowded, hopefully you'll have a chance to talk story with the owners too!

Went here for brunch on our first morning in Hawaii. We are staying on Kaneohe Bay so it's nice and close. Service was great! The staff were so friendly and had awesome suggestions on other places to visit & eat during our stay. Plenty of aloha to be found here!!! The food was great, too. I got the sweet toast with Portuguese sausage & a fried egg. Loved the Portuguese sausage! I only wished for real maple syrup to bring it to the level of perfection, but importing that stuff would probably be crazy expensive... Next time I'd get kimchi fried rice with an egg and sausage and then 1 piece of French toast on the side. My husband had a special with fried rice, a corned beef hash patty on top and a fried egg with gravy on top of that! Really delicious and unexpected! Excellent savory breakfast!! We would definitely go back. One tip: The place is a bit of a hole in the wall of a small building with other businesses in it. You have to go inside the building to see the restaurant entrance. Google GPS was accurate in getting us there, though.

First time eating here. I shared the two specials with my mom. Chicken nishime had very tiny kombu knots and was chopped small, including the konyakku, which my mom "doesn't like". She said it tasted good cut small. The sauce was not too salty and very tasty. It came with a very cute strawberry garnish on the side. The pastele stew was gratefully not too spicy for mom, and and had an excellent flavor. I heard the lup chong fried rice and the corned beef hash breakfast is also wonderfu. I will definitely eat there again!

I've been hearing about this place from a handful of friends now and since my kids dentists is upstairs I'd figure I should try it out? We (my family included) liked it. Steak & eggs with side of corned beef hash was really good. My family enjoyed the French toast and kimchee fried rice was good. Typical local mom-and-pop place, only draw back was cash only... Small, local spot with super friendly staff and a small but quality menu that does local comfort food really well. Their menu has rotating daily specials with Hawaiian food usually offered on Fridays. You can give them a call to hear the specials or order take out. Their location is a little hard to find since they are not visible from the street. They are located inside of the atrium building with Territorial Savings Bank and a hair salon. The building is across the street from the storage building. Walk into the building's center atrium and they are tucked in the corner. Before you enter take a look at the menu board outside with the daily specials. I went on a Sunday morning and had their special called Debora's Omelet -- it was a huge omelet stuffed with spinach, mushrooms, and portuguese sausage, served with rice and some fruit. My sister had their homemade hash and eggs. Both of our meals were great. The staff were really friendly and super helpful with offering suggestions. They kept the coffee refills flowing and were great to talk to while we waited for our order. Next time I'm going to try their Lanakea or Kona fried rice since both the staff and other diners recommended it.

The place is tiny but the food is amazing and the ladies who work there are in a league of their own. I was a little reluctant because of the small dining area. My wife suggested we try it any way and I'm so glad we did. From the second you walk in the door, you feel like you're at home. Small details made all the difference. The day we were there, we had strawberry water. They mix up their flavored water with random stuff like sugar cane, citrus, pineapple, whatever is cut fresh. I had fried rice with sausage and an egg. My wife had hamburger with onions gravy and rice. It was so good that divided both plates between us. I'd suggest ordering the gravy on the fried rice instead of the egg. Just like going over to Tutu's or Auntie's house for breakfast or lunch... A small hidden gem in the Kaneohe Atrium Business complex with Terrritorial Savings Bank at the Front. The cafe has about 4 tables inside with the kitchen area open to everyone to see...Service was geniune friendly all around. Wife and I ordered the Sweet Bread French Toast with Bacon and that was an absolute delight...we look forward to stopping by again for breakfast soon or stopping by for lunch as well.

This morning, we ate great food and met some wonderful people at Mel Rose Place. This cute little restaurant serves incredible food and has a warm, inviting, local atmosphere. First, the food... You need to try the hash moco and upgrade to Kim chee fried rice. This massive mountain of flavor is guaranteed to be a bright spot in your morning. The fried rice has lup cheong in it. I haven't had lup cheong since I was a kid so this brought back some nice memories. We also had the sweet bread french toast. It was perfect. Not too sweet and our coffee complemented it nicely. I need to also mention the Portuguese sausage. This place has the best I've ever tasted. Another thing that wow'd me was their water. They flavor it with natural fruit to give it a nice, refreshing taste. Our water today was lightly flavored with pineapple. Now to the best part... the people. Our waitress was such a sweetheart. She was super attentive the entire time and she took the time to walk us through some customer favorites since this was our first time here. We had some delightful conversation with a few of the other customers. The environment here exudes ohana so everyone is chatting with each other and having a great time. The chef was also a big part of our conversations. This woman has a big heart and you can taste the love she puts into her food. Mel Rose Place was a great start to our Sunday morning.

Melrose place is like eating at grandmas house. I was lucky to have had a grandmother who retired as a chef, so as you can imagine I always ate well. Aunty Donna and her crew are able to replicate that same experience for me. The food is onolicious from the hash to the jr pork chop to the turkey cranberry sandwich to the French toast and fried rice. Everything is just as expected a wonderful feel good experience! This is definitely a hidden gem in Kaneohe! I passed by this place so many times not knowing how it would be but my parents finally decided to go try it out and it is DELICIOUS!! They have different daily specials but their other food is also great. So far I've tried their Hawaiian Food, their Corned Beef Hash Moco, their Loco Moco and their Turkey and Cranberry Sandwich. Everything that I've had here is great! They also serve you fruit infused water which is really refreshing especially in this hot weather. I love the environment as well. It literally feels like you are going to your relatives house and eating in their kitchen! The staff is also very friendly and treat you like "family." I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a "chill" place to hang out and eat breakfast.

Luis: wanna go get breakfast? Me: sure, where do you wanna go? Luis: Mel Rose. Me: where's that? Luis: down the street (from his house). In Kaneohe, from Kahikili Hwy, make a right onto Kahuhipa St., left on Kawa St. it's the building on the corner. They are a hole in the wall. Located on the ground floor. Me: how did you find this place? Luis: we (him and his friend) used to order food when we were hung over and they deliver. Me: They deliver?? (then thinking, room service in paradise) Luis: so one day we went driving around looking for them and couldn't find them. We were at a shop across the street and asked they guy and he told us it was here. It is like walking into aunty's place... fo' realz cuz! (pidgen aka Hawaiian local language). If you grew up in Hawaii, it' really does have that ohana feeling. Aunty gonna take care you! Food: ho, brah! broke da mout! size portions. I ordered the fried rice with lup cheong and a over easy egg on top. I only had a fraction. She looked at my plate and asked if I didn't like it. I loved it, because I love lup cheong!!! (Chinese sausage). And I eat like a bird when it's breakfast or if I had coffee first. As for Luis, he ordered the loco moco... Dang that thing is huge! Luis can eat! He usually finishes off my food too, but if he couldn't clean off the plate, that tells me the portions are big! There's a lot of choices on the menu, so I'll probably have to be back to try them.
