Great Mexican place on the Windward side. I loved my flautas! They give you a small thing of chips and salsa if you eat in. My kid was having a meltdown so we had to grab everything to go at the last second; the cashier was accommodating and even asked if we wanted our chips and salsa to go.

Always looking for good Mexican food in Hawaii and so I had to try this place especially because its so close to my house. The chips and salsa are delicious and you can tell its homemade by someone who know how to do it right. I ordered the chicken burrito and it was good. Only thing is that it doesnt come with much of the "extras". It was delicious but very simple. The parking can be an issue because of its location so plan accordingly. Overall good mexican food at a convenient location.

After being on this island for four years, and trying pretty much all of the "Mexican" food places, this was by far the best I've had! Being Mexican myself this was a real treat. The waitress was very nice and the restaurant was clean. I will definitely be coming back.

Newer place here in Kaneohe. Nice service and simple atmosphere. Cornelio, the owner, is friendly and inviting. My husband and I tried the combination platter with chicken quesadilla, shredded beef enchilada, steak burrito. Very tasty. The meat was properly seasoned and cooked. The sauces we asked for on the side were a bit too runny for our liking but fun to try. It's BYOB so no margaritas here, folks. ;) We will be back again soon to try other menu items!

First time ever being disappointed using Yelp to influence our decision :( I mean 4 out of 5 stars and a few negative comments here and there I thought we need to check it out. We walk in and PACKED!! We are $30 lighter and thought this was going to be damn good! We are from Cali and generally used to amazing Mex food, only decent place we have found on the Island is Nelly's at the Kahuku Farmers Outdoor market (in one of the tents there).. The good: I loved the Horchata (one of the best I've had) and the guacamole (had to be fresh, very good flavor).. The bad: My burrito was a grilled chicken burrito that had a ton of cheese which was very rich, I could only eat half due to that and the Hubby ate the rest which was slightly better than his tacos.. The Ugly: My Husband's tacos!! Shredded beef with packaged shells and I swear the meat tasted like teriyaki beef jerky!! His 2nd to go taco was soggy. I felt so bad for him :( Guess it's back to Nelly's in Kahuku!!

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know...no one on the island agrees on what constitutes good Mexican food. Everybody has an opinion and many consider themselves experts on the subject. I trust my own judgement. So here is my two cents on Don Goyo's Mexican Food. Will you feel like you are in Mexico? No, but for Kaneohe Town this is pretty good Mexican food. Location: My barber is in Adon Plaza so I'm used to the parking lot. One way in and the same way out. Can only enter and exit on Kam Hwy going the direction of Kaneohe town. Venue: Small clean shop with about 5 tables for 4 people each. Two benches outside are perfect if you are waiting for takeout. Takes cash and credit cards and phone orders. Waitress service at the tables. No alcohol that I could see. Food: So I'm doing a Windward Oahu Mexican Restaurant Tour and checking out all the Windward Mexican Joints. I'm ordering the same exact item (vegetarian/grilled veggie burrito) and using that as my comparison. Verdict: Very good 4 star burrito. Medium sized with flour tortilla and stuffed with a huge amount of grilled fajita style veggies. Served with sour cream and fresh guacamole and rice and beans. Lots of flavor and it was very satisfying. Usually veggie burritos have beans, rice and guacamole or sour cream inside. So this was different in that sense. Strictly veggies inside but it all worked. I ate this at home because I did takeout and added some fresh salsa which I just happened to have on hand. I was stuffed and happy. I will gladly get this burrito again. Clearly better than a couple of the windward burritos that I have encountered so far. Service: Pleasant and helpful and food came out quickly. Vegan: Okay so they served cheese on my beans and sour cream on the burrito. This is a common mistake when the cook doesn't really get the whole vegan thing. I should have been more specific and I don't hold it against them at all. It's my responsibility to tell them what I need. Don Goyo's Mexican Food is a solid option for Kaneohe residents. I recommend it !

Tried this place for the first time today after seeing nice looking pics & reviews on yelp. We visited at lunch, parking was a breeze, we sat as soon as we walked in. Service was speedy but we did have to ask for hot sauce & utensils & napkins for our toddler even though I asked for an extra setting for her when I ordered since we were sharing-No biggie as she brought it right away. My husband & I both got the 3 choice w/ steak chile relleno, shredded beef enchilada & shredded beef burrito. The food was tasty but everything was a little dry. The items we got were advertised as "enchilada style" so we were expecting saucy and cheesy which these were not. The steak chile relleno had a few pieces of steak most of which had gristle and hard cartilage left on it so it was in edible, I don't think there was any cheese at all on it, if so it was unnoticeable but it did have a tiny amount of enchilada sauce atop. The enchilada had a good amount of shredded beef but again hardly any sauce or cheese. The burrito was exactly that just the beef and tortilla, nothing else! It was filled with a good amount of shredded beef. The rice was the usual, nothing special and the beans were tasty. We were in & out within 30mins so that was nice. I'd still prefer to go to other spots over this place but it's closer so I'm sure I'll try it again. Maybe next time I'll do more research & try something else. Overall it was good & worth a try:)

Good food! Nice friendly owner. Simple but pleasant decor. Prices are reasonable. I introduced my 96 yr old Mom to Fajitas Especiales (chicken, beef and shrimp all together) here and she loved it! They have take-out that is fast. I will make this a regular stop. :-)

BEST Mexican food on the island! I've always been an El Mariachi fan, but I must say this place reigns!! Food was better, cheaper and bigger portions than others. Everything tastes homemade! Try the shredded beef enchiladas or pork flauta! Nut Bueno!

Was surely hoping for a better experience. First time here and thought their menu had a nice variety. I decided on appetizer taquitos and crunchy tacos. Let's start with the appetizer. They came with guacamole and sour cream. Thank goodness because the taquitos were totally bland. Absolutely no flavor inside or out. I got my food as take out but only had 1 mile to get to where I was staying. I opened the taco container which came with rice and refried beans both of which were cold. The refried beans were so watery you really could not even eat with a fork and the rice was obviously old as much of it was hard and very dried out. Neither side dish had any seasoning. So these got totally wasted as not appetizing at all to consume. The 2 tacos had a decent amount of filling but were extremely salty that you had to have something to drink with almost every bite. Some food way under seasoned and some totally over the top. Love Mexican food but will take my business elsewhere next time.

Thought I would give this new place a try. I was not aware they closed at 8:00pm on Wednesdays, and arrived at exactly 8:00. I walked in because people were still in line ordering. When I asked if they were still open, the person behind the counter politely said, "No, sorry we are closed." I am okay with this. I came when they closed. Could they probably have served me since the place was still full of people? Yeah, probably. I would have been happy to come another time to try the food. However, as I was getting into my car, the guy walks outside to take down the "We are open" sign and see someone he knows and invites them in. He then looks at me and invited me in as well. This did not sit well with me. My advice to a new establishment. You can't afford to turn away new customers.

We were really hoping this place would be the great Mexican food that we needed. We were wrong. It was identical to Mariachi just down the road. The items we got tasted just the same way as the ones at Mariachi. Even though the food is the same, Mariachi has a leg up because they have plenty of seating, while Don Goyo's only has a handful of tables. If Don Goyo's wants to survive, they need to distinguish themselves from El Mariachi. They could do this by giving free chip and salsa refills, or some other enticing gesture. Just a thought. Jamaica might help too.

Yes, for Mexican food here in Kaneohe, in Hawaii for that matter, Don Goyos is a GOOD! I'd choose this place over the others here in Kaneohe. The restaurant is cozy and clean. 5 tables that can fit 4-5 people each. The only slight, slight downfall was that there's a nail salon right next door and I could smell the acetone, but it didn't seem to bother anyone else. The food portions were very generous, as you can see by my pictures. Super burrito was huge. Carnitas plate was good size, too! We're Mexican food EATERS and we couldn't finish, and there was an average size meal left over. Service was very friendly and attentive. Side note: We love menudo so any Mexican joint with menudo is on, with us. We asked the owner about his and he said that he'd put menudo on the menu once he gets more requests for it.

A small restaurant located in the old Dean's place. The food is good. Pretty average menu as like any other Mexican restaurant. Prices are higher than expected for the size of the restaurant, the minimal decor, and the diner style small booths. Compared to the 2 other Mexican restaurants in the area, the prices do not reflect the character of the restaurant. it should be at least $3-6 less per plate. I tried this restaurant twice and I am not incline to return. The service is slow. only 1 person working as server/buser/ cashier. The owner helped out the frint side on my second visit which slowed the server/buser/ cashier person. It was pretty obvious he wanted things a certain way, a certain order, which s l o w e d the server/buser/cashier. He also rushed us to pay our bill which we did not receive and review. We asked for the check and he looked at us like we were asking for something totally out of the ordinary. He seemed perplexed. Will not be returning any time soon. If they are still in business in 6 months, I will try this place again. Hopefully, the owner will leave the running of the front of the house to the experienced server/buser/cashier person.

Great pork flautas! Pork was nice and moist and the outside was nice and crispy! Service was great even though they were busy! Definitely will be back!

Located in the quaint Adon Plaza, where Dean's Drive Inn used to be, is this little Mexican gem. First off, I have to rave about their complimentary chips and salsa! Their salsa is so fresh, you can literally see all of the fresh veggies floating around! This is probably my favorite salsa out of ALL the different salsas I have tried on the island, and I have eaten A LOT of salsa! When we went it was quiet, which was nice because we were helped immediately. The Super Burrito was the special of the day ($11.95!) so my boyfriend and I decided to split it because it was HUGE! This was such a great deal because that thing could feed a small family! It was full of flavor and stuffed full with chicken and steak. Despite the delicious, affordable Mexican food, I had to dock a star off because parking is really hard. The parking lot is extremely small. Other than that, this place is perfect! Would recommend!

Great new experience for Menudo! Usually on Sunday in LA, it's a ritual for breakfast after playing hard on a Saturday night... That said, El Charro in Aiea is closed on Sunday, Mexico in Kalihi has been just so so lately with its undercooked tripe and the last hold in Wahiawa, El Palenque is a bit of a drive and El Mariachi has the fixed phrase, none today, boss is out of town. So, as promised by Rocky on my first visit, come on Sunday and you'll get the best Menudo! No lie! It was very, very good. Complete with condiments, cilantro, fresh onion, oregano and red chili pepper. It was fresh, throughly cooked with no gaminess and all in the spicy red chile sauce infused! Thanks Rocky! You Rock!

What do vegans, crossfitters, atheists and people who lived in states with a decent Mexican food have in common? They told you already. Hawaii, with a dearth of decent Mexican food, is a notorious locale for Southern Californians, Texans and Arizonians transplants to complain about the lack of quality, cheap, south of the border food here. Well they're in luck. Don Goyo's is here to save the day. A former El Mariachi employee and head roaster of chiles, Cornelio, decided it was time to open his own spot where he and his sister would make delicious Mexican food. Cornelio is from Durango, Mexico so you know this food is going to be legit. His specialties are chile rojo and chile verde. Located in the Adon Plaza in Kaneohe (Google Maps is my friend) this small shop is in between main roads so don't miss it. The driveway really sneaks up on you and you might just drive past it. The food is quite good. I ordered the lengua tacos Mexican style. No cheese, no sour cream, none of that Americanized bs. Just onions and cilantro. Simple. Tasty. Thomas got the porky flautas which were flaky with tender shredded piggy. Both plates came with rice and beans. Yum. We also got an order of nachos and those were quite good with lots of cheese. This spot is definitely worth a trip back. He didn't have any barbacoa nor carnitas so I know what I'm ordering.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Don Goyo's!! I'll tell you the cons first: 1. The parking is a beeatch. It's in a small shopping center and everyone in Keneohe seems to either be getting their nails done, or taking their pet to get groomed so the parking is always full. Or seems that way. No worries, wait 5 min and a space should open. DO NO PARK IN THE RESERVED SPOTS, YOU WILL BE GLADLY TOWED!!!! (so I was told) 2. The restaurant itself is pretty tiny with only 5 booths. The Pros!! I love the waitress we've had every time we've gone in. She's SO friendly and funny. She remembers us, and she is on top of her game. I guess that should be expected with only 5 tables, but I love her. I've had the bean and cheese burrito, and it wasn't anything to rave about. I mean, where would I get one that is? It's the basic bitch of Mexican food, but I eat what baby craves. I felt that this dish was livened up with some of their tomatillo avacado salsa. YUMMY I've had the Don Goyo Tacos plate. For $12 for two tacos, it better be impressive, and it was! The guacamole is freshly handmade and you can tell. Horchata = delicioso!! My husband has had the Super Burrito and the barbacoa and he loved both. I will be back. I love this place more than El Mariachi and, as much as it sorta pains me to say, even Maria Bonita. It might be a tie, but Don Goyo's IS closer. PS. It's BYOB or there are some jarritos or fountain drinks.

As Myong already said, "Hawaii people are always on the look out for good, authentic Mexican food." I just don't think it's possible. I really, really don't. I think everything that's been called Mexican in Hawaii has just been average, if that. Most the time one item has flavor and everything else is left tasteless at "Mexican" restaurants and trucks across the islands. I came here after a verbal review from some great friends. They said the Cancun Fish and the Chile Rojo were great. Now, maybe this is where I twist it up and mess it up. I drive from Ewa Beach to Kaneohe and order the chicken enchiladas with red sauce while my boyfriend orders the taco plate. We didn't get what our friends raved about but how could we go wrong? If it's good, it's good. If it's as close to authentic as it's going to get in Hawaii, well, then, it's as close to authentic. Wrong! I walked in at 11:30 AM on Sunday morning with my boyfriend. The place is small in a cute way with super blue booths. It doesn't smell like anything upon walking in, it's very clean, and I am excited to a see a "Military Discounts" sign on the cash register. We take a seat by the window. We are the second couple there. We scan the menus and the lady working there comes to our table to ask if we'd like anything else to drink besides what's in our hydroflasks. I order a horchata which she mentions might take a moment because she has to go make it. Doesn't traditional horchata have to soak and sit for a few hours after being made? It also needs to chill...While she heads back, we munch on a free basket of chips and salsa. TASTELESS salsa. I honestly don't even get it. Like, did you buy this? Did you make this? Did you water this down? I'm so confused. By the time she comes back with our drink, we are ready to order. I order the chicken enchiladas which comes with green sauce unless otherwise noted. I order them with the red sauce. My boyfriend orders the two crunchy tacos plate. I also ask for hot sauce. The server proceeds to tell me that nothing they make is hot on their menu because it just kills your taste buds and then you can't taste any of the food (she even goes on to tell me how El Mariachi's makes their food hot and ya' know people complain, x, y, z). OK, well, I'm not asking to burn my tongue off, I just want some flavor and spice. She brings me a very hot, orange habanero sauce which I dumped into the salsa and onto my food. Yum! On the food note, I was happy with my decision to order the enchiladas with the red sauce. The red sauce had a great consistency and flavor. On the other hand, the chicken in the tortillas was PINK and brown and watery. I'm guessing the water comes from the fact that the chicken was more than likely boiled and then shredded. The pink and brown pieces had me picking and pulling my poor enchiladas apart. The rice and beans were not cold out of the fridge but also not at all warm. The rice was boring, absolutely no taste. A little tomato sauce and cilantro would have gone a very long way here. As for the beans, they're just beans. What do you want me to say? Boiled, mashed up pinto beans...also at an odd temperature. Not cold and not warm. Maybe fresh out of the can temperature? Moving on to the crunchy taco plate....LOL!!! What the....two crunchy tacos from Taco Bell coming right up. Except, worse! There was NO flavor and the pico de gallo was just a bunch of chopped up, raw red onion. Stop it...we could have gone across the street to Taco Bell for much cheaper to get the same freaking thing except with lots more flavor. This was not worth the drive across the island. Yes, we appreciated the military discount, and yes, it was clean and new inside. But, no, this is not authentic and this is not even close to great. I only liked the red sauce which I didn't get much of. Maybe I'll order a container of red sauce and make my own chicken at home. Some extra things I noted: -El Mariachi comparisons were made at least 5 times during the course of our visit by our server. This bothers me. Stop. -The cook/owner came out and said hello. That was very sweet. Nice man. -The hours of operation listed on the door were different than what was listed on the menu I wish them well. However, I won't be returning. Saludos!

Hawaii people are always on the look out for good, authentic Mexican food. Unfortunately...you won't find it here. My juevos got that excited tingly feeling when I heard that a new Mexican joint opened up, even if it was on the other side of the Likelike Hwy. I will definitely make a drive for good Mexican food. Don Goyo's looks like a typical local plate lunch place and I guess that's because that's what the space used to be before. But couldn't they have spruced the place up even a little? No points for effort there. I don't want to feel like I'm in a L&L when I comer mi comida. Okay, whatevers. After looking over the menu, we decided to try the taquitos and the carne asada. The counter girl seemed totally clueless and asked twice what we ordered. After finally getting our order right, she went to put the order in. While waiting, we chowed down on some of the complimentary chips and salsa. That salsa did not taste fresh at all and it tasted like they just popped open a can of La Victoria. I'm not kidding. So the taquitos come out and all I can taste is the fried tortilla. The innards were sorely lacking and we just ate one each and left the rest of the order untouched. The carne asada as well as the beans and rice were all totally bland. I'm pretty sure they didn't season the carne asada at all, just slapped a naked piece of fatty steak on the grill. Don Goyo's may be okay for locals who prefer quantity over quality but I won't be going back. No bueno.

Oh well, it was worth a try. Food came out quickly during a slow lunch hour, but the burrito was sloppily thrown together. It came with a meager portion of runny refried beans and some tasteless rice. I will admit that the shredded beef was pretty good, but this place isn't worth another shot.

El Mariachi use to be our go to place....not anymore! Very happy with our first experience here. Carne asada, rice, horchata, and service were definitely better here than at El Mariachi's. Will be our new go to place for Mexican food!

I'm happy to have a new Mexican spot in kaneohe. Definitely hard to find in Hawaii. It's a small restaurant with just a few tables. Menu was pretty good. I tried the steak Chimichanga....it was pretty tasty! Beans and rice were good. Our waitress, rocky, was super nice! She chatted it up with my boyfriend and I while we ate. She gave great recommendations. All in all it was a good experience and we will definitely go back!

Best Mexican food in Kaneohe by far!!! Only 5 tables inside, so maybe try a weekday like we did. My husband loved the Lengua Super Burrito and my Shrimp Chimichanga was awesome! They have desserts and Mexican sodas too. Customer service is awesome and prices are reasonable. The complimentary chips and salsa were delish and not too spicy.

Checked this place out after Dean told us that there would be a new Mexican restaurant subletting. Attitude vs food... Attitude of cashier/waitress: THUMBS down. She does absolutely the minimal. Who talks on their phone on speaker phone while there are customers right there? Well she does; it was a personal call on her cell phone and not the restaurant. I was annoyed that I had to ask her for water, since she didn't even bother to ask if we wanted something to drink in general... The icing on the cake was when my husband ordered a Mexican Coke and he needed the bottle opened and she pretty much just threw it at him. Go-to food: I love the food. Although I think I like the chips better at El Mariachi. The super burrito filled with shredded chicken is awesome. I just order that and split it with my husband. It's flavorful and it's topped with good o' enchilada sauce and sided with salad and guac. The guac.... Mmmmm. Love it!!! Price: It's on the same level as the rest of the Mexican restaurants nearby or in Hawaii in general. Coming from SoCal, I find it to be a pricey, as we could get tacos and burritos $5-$7 or sometimes less on taco Tuesdays....

Delicious! Fresh food & clean place. My favorite Mexican food until now. Fish Ceviche tostadas so good.

The best Mexican food on Oahu! It's a little place in a strip mall type location but the food is delicious. The only thing I'd change would be adding queso for the chips. There's only one server and she is really busy but she was super sweet and friendly. It's BYOB - always a plus! When we were there, a lot of people were getting take out which I'm sure is a genius idea if you don't wanna wait for a table.

Food was very good, I had the Carnitas, they were better than I've had anywhere in Kaneohe! However, service is ruff, they had one woman taking table orders, to go orders, cleaning tables, serving food and handling cash register! I think I might order to go in the future, bottom line food is above par!

This was my first time eating here and after the reviews, I'm a bit disappointed. They got knocked down a star for getting my order wrong. I was the only person in the restaurant....I understand mistakes but come on, no one else was there. I'm upset I didn't check the food before I left, but I figured they'd get it. Lesson learned. The food was decent, I think I like El mariachi or Marias better. It may be a case where some of their dishes are delicious but it just wasn't my experience. I wouldn't really recommend it and I likely won't be returning. The inside is very small, so may need to order take out if it does get busy at night and the staff was nice but kind of stand-off ish.

Don Goyo's has opened to very little fanfare in the spot formerly occupied by Dean's Drive Inn. In fact, the opening is so soft that there aren't any decorations at all, and not all of the menu items are available just yet. I even heard the owner on the phone nailing down delivery schedules with his distributors. But they are definitely open. I usually start my reviews of Mexican food with a disclaimer. I mean, I've never lived in Cali so "obviously" I've never had bomb, legit, hella dank "authentic" mexi grub -- but I thought the food was good. I'm so confused by what authentic is because all the spots claim authenticity, but someone from some fenced-off border state always says it's not... Anyway, I had a burrito with beef tongue, and my fiancée had the super burrito which was filled with both grilled chicken and steak. Both were the large flour tortilla, but mine came with beans and rice and hers with enchilada sauce and salad. The sides left a little bit to be desired, but I'm not really a huge fan of refried beans so that may just be a personal preference. I did clean the plate, though...go figure. I will definitely be back.

Finally, good mexican food on the Windward side. I got a combo plate with tacos and tamale. Wife got chicken enchaltas. Both were good, plentiful and hot. Comp chips and salsa. This placed is much better than Maria Bonita or Mariachi or Los Gracias in Kailua. Only things is seating is smaller and not much ambiance or music.

Best Mexican we have had in Hawaii hands down. Flavors are authentic which is hard to find on the island. Portions generous. Had the carnitas tortas which was awesome. The adobada super burrito which was really big. The adobada was seasoned perfectly. Lots of taste. Last was the lengua tacos. Good as well but if we had to pick our least favorite. Chef is from Mexico so that explains why it's so much better than other places on the island. Only negative is the price of the tacos were a little high. Everything else reasonable given large portions. And the waitress doesn't seem to know much about the menu/food. Byob.

I had the shredded beef enchiladas. I assume he was the owner; provided great service to us and was very polite. The food came out fast and hot. I literally have nothing negative to say. I will be back definitely!

we ate here for the first time today. i love Mexican food and i was not disappointed. hubby had the steak chimichanga and i asked for a carnitas chimichanga. both were huge and tasty. the carnitas were very soft and moist. the place is very small, 5 tables but we went at a good time and got a table. the owner greeted us when we entered. he was the only one at the counter, but once he was done there he quickly brought us salsa and chips. the salsa was not spicy which is good for me because I don't like spicy. most people don't mention this, but they serve coca cola products. that's a big deal for me because i DO NOT like pepsi. the service was good, the food was tasty and it came out quickly. i highly recommend this place. we will be back!

The staff was so sweet I really wish I could give them more stars. Unfortunately, the food that my husband and I had merits just two stars. The 'shredded chicken' isn't the slow roasted/simmered chicken you'd normally expect from a Mexican restaurant, but canned chicken (like from Costco) that had the consistency of canned tuna fish. Also, it was evident that the food wasn't freshly prepared or even heated up in an oven, but a microwave. If we do visit again, we will certainly ask for grilled chicken and hope for the best.

OMG!!!! Sooo yummy!!! Tamales are to die for!!! The chicken burrito was divine!!!! Why can't we have one of these in Mililani????!!!!!! We will be back!!!

The food here is way better than el mariachi. Tasted fresher. I'm giving it a 4 star only because there's not much space there. We had the shredded chicken taco salad, steak quesadillas, and chimichanga and was very pleased. The food was pretty quick coming out too.

  • Cristyn T.

Like El Mariachi before the quality went down. Obviously not the best Mexican food I've ever had, but good for Kaneohe. Portions were large and food came out quickly. I ordered a chimichanga and enjoyed it with a lot of leftovers to eat the next day. I'm a huge bean fanatic and the beans here are pretty good. The hot sauce, however, was not very hot. Reasonable prices and friendly service. Only reason I'd choose El Mariachi over Don Goyo's would be for the ambiance. It's small in here and very casual. It probably is best for takeout.

  • Nathan C.

For Kaneohe, this is probably as good as it gets, which isn't a be thing but gotta keep it in perspective, the food was typical to what you would find at most of the Mexican spots, prices were in my opinion a bit high for what you get but again comparatively not bad and the taste of the food was descent.

I got the fajita burrito and and my wife got the carnitas. I really enjoyed the burrito but I think I'm going with the carnitas next time. That carnitas meat is so tasty and crunchy. Very reasonable prices.

We found a wonderful authentic Mexican restaurant on Ohau! Even though we live on the other side of the island, we will definitely go back for the great service, amazing food and military gets 10% discount!

Food was great, staff was super friendly and the prices were reasonable. What more can you ask for? We were very satisfied and will be back many times. Best Mexican food on the windward side for sure.

Not long after Dean's Drive In moved to their new location, a new Mexican restaurant popped up and took their place in the Adon Plaza. Truth be told, I'm not the biggest Mexican fan (I do like Taco Bell though) but my wife totally is. So with an open mind, we checked out Don Goyo's. The place seems a little small from the outside but once we got in there, we realized it is pretty small. Maybe there were five or six bench style tables and not much room between them (think the fast food side of Zippy's). But it was clean and looked pretty nice with their bright colors and Mexican inspired artwork. As we sat down the waitress took our drink orders and brought out some chips and salsa. The menu offered a lot of selection and the prices where in the $10-15 range which is what I expected from a Mexican restaurant. And as usual, most of the plates came with rice and beans. I ordered the pork flautas and was impressed both by the speed in which it arrived at our table (couldn't have been more than 10 minutes) and the portion size (it was big). My dish came with the beans, rice, shredded lettuce and a few spoonfuls of sour cream. The food tasted fresh but was a little underseasoned for my taste. Once I asked for some hot sauce it tasted much better. Overall, it met my expectations in that it tasted like other Mexican restaurants and if anyone wanted Mexican food I would definitely eat there again.

Anyone who transplanted from So Cal to Hawaii understands. There is no good Mexican food in Hawaii. Most places are supermarket Mexican, meaning their tortillas are the dry, unremarkable varieties you can find in the bread isle at a Safeway. Salsas are usually out of a jar, old big chunky tomatoes and a pathetic mix of unsavory spices. Now, that I found Don Goyo, I have hope, that perhaps, it will start a real Mexican food revolution and a healthy competition in Oahu, previously dominated by El Mariachi. Don Goyo has it all, homemade hot sauce that will melt your tongue like lava, generous portion sizes, fresh ingredients and most importantly, good tortillas and savory meat. The restaurant is small and welcoming but I took one star away for its lack of liquor license. Its chilles Rellenos was by far, one of the best I had in a long time. I chose the ground beef kind, generally filled with spices, herbs and cheese. Spot on!

Best chicken fajita veggie salad around! Generous with the guacamole, delicious mix of quality veggies - mushrooms, purple onions, peppers- that were grilled perfectly. I didnt get a shell, and there was still too much for me to finish in one sitting. And I can eat! This is my new favorite lunch!!!!

I noticed that Dean's was no longer at this location, so I stopped in because I just love Mexican food. I'm from Oakland, CA where there are a lot of good places for Mexican food. So far I've tried many places on Oahu and haven't been particularly impressed. I don't eat meat; I tried a combo of chil relleno, cheese enchilada, rice and beans. I thought everything was very good--lot of cheese in the two items, and the rice and beans were particularly good. I'll definitely be back.

This place was a nice quiet sit down place. Staff was real nice and had a steady flow. I had the beef tongue. It was superb. My only gripe is that as a Midwestern I would have liked more choices of hot sauce. Other than that it will be a regular place for me

Authentic and delicious! It's so hard to find good authentic Mexican food here. Just thought we would stop by and try because it is very close to the house. To say we were pleasantly surprised is an understatement! The food was flavorful and clearly homemade. The owner took such pride in his meals and his restaurant. We go there once a week now!

What a great find. Been on this island one year and have yet to find an authentic Mexican restaurant. Don Goyo's was very delicious and our waitress Rocky was amazing. She took great care of us and we will definitely recommend to friends. If u are Kaneohe, please visit and try for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Don Goyo's has just opened, and we decided to give them a try. I had carnitas, my son had chili rojo, and my husband had a combo with a steak burrito and a chicken enchilada. We all enjoyed the meal very much, and the owner chatted with us as we asked questions about his new restaurant. As the previous reviewer mentioned, not all menu items are available yet, as he has a sister coming soon from Mexico to make the specialty items. We'll be back, for sure, to check out some more of the good food. The horchata is delicious too! Try them out, I think you'll like them too!

Assuming your food is good and not asking is bad business. Reminded me alot of El Mariachi. First thing is first, the salsas, all 3 I had today, tasted like canned salsas. The chips did not taste fresh ( saw them sitting under the counter un covered in the basket). We ordered the shredded chicken flauta plate and a combination plate with shredded chicken burrito and shredded chicken enchilada. The flauta was fried to perfection. The beans tasted great. The rice was bland and piggy backed the beans. The chicken was bland, had no traditional mexican food flavor. It tasted like they boiled the chicken took it apart and left it in the broth and that was it. There was no vegetables or anything to make the chicken taste any better. That is how it was served for both of our meals. The enchilada was a tortilla that was seared in oil filled with the bland chicken and just topped off with watered down green canned salsa. The burrito, the burrito... the burrito was a flour tortilla stuffed with just chicken and lightly toasted. But the beans were great.. half of the things in the menu were missing and when our food was ready he let it sit there when we were the only ones there because he was on his cellphone. Chef was a good guy, hope he takes this and strives. Would like to see improvement. #foodieforlife

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
