Shopping mall food court food. That should explain it all. I had combo #1 consisting of kaulua pork hard taco and mahi mahi soft taco, bean dip and chips. The fish was too salty and the pork tasted like something you can get in a premade bucket from a grocery store. For under $10 for the two of us it was about right for fast food. I don't think I would be coming back to this location. I might give another one a try.

Super slow for a mall eatery. The food was really good though.

It was pretty good but we like the one in Kihei better. I got the chicken nachos and hubby got the Mango pork soft taco (delish). The service was fast and the lady was super friendly and fun to chat with. Better than the other choices have in the mall like McDonalds, Hot Dog on a Stick or Quiznos.

After two visits to the island of Maui during summer, we finally decided to try this restaurant out this time around. It is one of the many restaurants in the food court at Queen Ahumanu Mall. We've noticed that they were always consistently busy with the locals and mall employees which geberally is as good indicator of value and flavor. We ordered the beef and chicken tacos. The portions and flavor were really good. The salsa bar was also really good as well as the sauces really complemented the tacos well. During peak periods, expect to have a short wait did go popularity of this place. We found the service to 've good as well and would definitely return here the next time we visit Maui again.

I paid $5 and change for black beans and cabbage. There was some fish in there but an insufficient amount for the price. Not happy with the product.

As a californian, avoid this place. The burrito menu is backwards. All the burritos (except seafood) are choice of meat, the only difference is the toppings. Reading through 6 burritos trying to pick out the differences between them is a pain. The salsa bar sucks and the chips were cold and skimpy. Maybe I got a bad order. Pro-tip: none of the burritos are all the toppings.

FOOD: Maui style taco salad - Huge portion of ground beef, cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole and lettuce (and no rice, yay!) Taste was a bit bland - I should've grabbed some sauce from the bar. SERVICE: Still unfriendly and uncaring. Funny how I get better service at Taco Bell.

After hearing great reviews I decided to follow my nose to the Maui Tacos located in the mall. After a friendly smile and the classic aloha welcome from the workers we were quick to order. I ordered the Grilled Fish Taco and my husband ordered the Baja Fish Taco (the only difference being his had some specialty baked beans). Both were delicious and fresh! Grilled fish marinated In some secret sauce, with sliced cabbage and a double layer of corn tortilla was perfect for a light lunch! I chose be pineapple salsa and he got a mild salsa from the salsa bar (which was a nice touch). Both were wonderful and zesty! And pretty cheap too! Under 15$ for both, and they came with chips on the side! Not bad for food from a "food court"!

This Maui Tacos is our usual stop right after getting off the plane due to its location since we're usually starving by then and always get the island fish tacos. Their menu has changed however so now I have to specify that I want it the same way as it use to be with just cheese and lettuce vs. the cabbage. Two island fish tacos with cheese and lettuce topped with their pineapple salsa is ono!!

Horrible! Sad! There's no comparison to how it use to be!

I was a bit worried choosing this out of the other stores in the Food Court at Ka'ahumanu mall. I wasn't sure what to expect from a taco place on Maui and wasn't sure my stomach could handle it. However, lemme tell you... this place is A-OK in my book! I was afraid this was some cheap Taco Bell knock-off, but in reality the food you get is more like a California Tortilla. Some really cool takes on burritos and tacos, with plenty of toppings and salsas to choose from! The burritos are HUGE and should be more than enough to fill you up. The only wary thing was the salsa bar, which was open air and attracting some flies. Still, what do you expect on Maui, where ~everything~ is open air. If you're looking for some quick food and feel like a Hawai`ian take on Mexican, Maui Tacos is the way to go!

Maui Tacos is nothing special. Rubio's is better. The people working here seemed like they were new as I ordered the keiki meal and the cashier asked if the kids meals were the same as the keiki meal. Didn't someone give the guy some Hawaiian 101? He must have just arrived from the mainland. The kids ordered the chicken strips but what we got wasn't chicken strips at all. They were diced chicken, the type that would be put into the tacos with Spanish rice. The kids were hungry so we just accepted it.

A Haiku Review of Maui Tacos (Kahului): Had the burrito. It was luke warm and tasteless. Blue book steered me wrong!

This Maui Tacos isn't my favorite, but it's convenient. Nachos Corn chips with cheese, tomatoes, sour cream and MT guacamole One order comes with a pretty decent helping of both chips and toppings. I dress this up with my own mixture of the MT salsas, jalapeños and onions. Soft Grilled Fish Taco Marinated grilled fish, shredded cabbage and cilantro-jalapeño dressing This one isn't bad, but I prefer the Baja Grilled Fish Taco. It's essentially the same, but the Baja one has your choice of beans. Baja Grilled Fish Taco Marinated grilled fish with shredded cabbage, cilantro-jalapeño dressing, and your choice of pinto, black or refried beans The fish tacos, in general, are pretty simple. I like to dress mine up with my own mixture of MT salsa from their salsa bar. Salsa Bar The Maui Tacos salsa bar is great! It has a variety of mild to hot salsas that are very fresh-tasting and tasty. I love to blend several of them together to create my own mix. The ones with pineapple tend to be sweeter and not as hot. Jalapeños, lime slices, and cilantro are also available in the salsa bar. Overall, this Maui Tacos doesn't accurately showcase what Maui Tacos really has to offer. In fact, I think the ones on Oahu are better. (Sorry.) Although, I think for a food court restaurant, it's not bad. 31 Yelps Review Challenge - #25/31

Not the best Mexican food. The quality of food does not meet the price of the food. Definitely not authenticate mexican food, would recommend else where.

If you want food poisoning - go here. Yes I got sick and threw up from eating their taco salad. Heard that famous maui chef no longer owns it. Quality of the food went down to 0. Sadly food at Kaahumanu is so limited so they still have business. SKIP!

Went there around 11am on 5/15/12. .. :/ ..was recommended by our travel book "Maui 2012" Customer service was mediocre: the gal in the front could've cared less if we were there or not. However, there were plenty of repeat customers based on the conversations we heard. Personally, I would not go back there again. Food: $9.99 for the 2 fish taco plate, which includes 2 fish tacos, rice and beans. Fish tacos were average (was recommended by cashier as the most popular item on the menu). Rice was a little harder and bland. Beans: I've had better. My husband and I usually finish our rice and beans and this time around, we had quite a bit leftover. I don't know exactly how to explain the beans, but they were not the flavor I was used to. Regular salsa was watered down. HOWEVER, we enjoyed the pineapple salsa very much! Chips were ok, not restarant style at all. Soda machine needed to be calibrated badly, which made me concerned about the quality of the remainder of the restaurant. Atmosphere: Small restaurant with little seating. Had a small-time feel to it. Nice decor.

Standard fast food fare +1. Better than average, and fish tacos are a great alternate to most fast food.

Providing you're not coming here to eat authentic Mexican food, I'd have to say they have some above average items on their menu. Today I had the Hookipa burrito for $8.95, which has fresh fish, black beans, and rice. It felt like it weighed 5 lbs and I would definitely classify it as a "gut-bomb"; however, it was quite good and the fish was cooked to perfection. The tortilla was a bit thin and somewhat flavorless, but then again Maui tacos really can't be compared to anything authentically Mexican.

Got the fish tacos during lunch last I don't know if they're always this good but whoever was cooking the fish at lunchtime last Monday (8/27) knew her stuff. That fish was perfect - as if a second more or a second fewer would have declined it in quality. The taco guys should give her a raise or something.

So sick from eating a La Perouse burrito here today...beef was stringy/chewy and chicken was pure gristle. Never again.

We ate here five times last week while on vacation. We had the fish tacos all five times. They are by far the best fish tacos I have ever had. I would highly recommend them. We ate there last year 4-5 times as well. I look forward to my next visit.

I am generally not a fan of mall food court restaurants, but Maui Tacos is definitely the exception, with fresh, local ingredients. You can get a healthy, tasty meal for a very reasonable price. I'm a fan of their "Paia" burrito. And their salsa bar extends the meal with things like roasted onion/peppers and corn along with some good salsa choices, including a nice pineapple salsa. Whenever we happen to be at Kaahumanu Mall for some shopping or a movie, this is my lunch. (And as far as mall food courts go, this one has nice ambience with the way the mall is designed to be open and take advantage of the tropical environment.)

I'm going to Maui in exactly six days and I'm SOOOOOOOOO excited! I've been once before, it was three years ago and I was there with a big group of people for a friends wedding. One of the most incredible places on the planet, undoubtedly. While I was there, EVERYONE in our group was raving about this place called Maui Tacos. BEST tacos on the island, BEST burritos in Hawaii, BEST blah, blah, blah... Long story short, I went there expecting something magical, instead, I left that place wishing I had eaten at Baja Fresh. It was an insult to call this Mexican food. In a land where ahi, sushi and poke salad reigns supreme, this place is an embarrassment to the local cuisine and has no business being on the island. The food was terrible and prepared poorly. I missed out on a day of good snorkeling because my ass exploded like a volcano about 25 minutes after consumption. I'm sure a group of "howlies" moved to the island and decided that bland Mexican food would be a big hit with the locals. They were right, because they have over 20 locations that are always PACKED...and it's a total shame. Seriously, if you're an entrepreneur seeking an incredible opportunity, you should look into opening an authentic Mexican food restaurant on the island, you'd be as big as Brother Iz. If you're vacationing in paradise, PLEASE do me a favor and avoid dining at Maui Taco's. You spent a ton of cash to be there, don't subject yourselves to sub-par, Mexican caca.

Pretty standard tacos but lots of tasty, varied salsas. I'd give it four stars but it's pretty expensive compared to other fast food taco places like Taco Bell. Certainly the best option in the food court. Then again, its competition consists of a fast food steak joint and a place called "hot dog on a stick"

Fish tacos are great and many salsas to try. Stay way from everything else.

So, I saw a couple of Maui Tacos while I was in Maui and I stopped by this one when we were in a lil shoppin center and I was starving. I just wanted to get a quick little meal (like 1 taco each) for my boyfriend and myself 'cause a few hours later we'd be at a luau. So I walk in and the first thing i notice is all the framed pics of celebrities on the walls. I was thinkin, man! everyone's been here! Must be pretty decent. So I walk over to order and am shocked. Each taco is like $5.00!! And that's a la cart. So then I was like crap, I'm about to spend $10 for 2 tacos and that's w/o drinks, beans/rice, etc?? I got a potato taco for myself cause it was the cheapest one, and a fish one for my boyfriend. Mine was fine. I liked the crispiness of the shell, but other than that it was boring. Afterwards I asked my boyfriend how he liked his fish taco and he said, "oh, that's what it was?" Overall, it was super lame and waay not worth the money. We should have gone to taco bell.

Great tacos, low price - we loved the fish taco and pineapple salsa! Service wasn't great and you're in a food court, but on food alone I'd go back.

After returning a year later the food is still Ono! The taco salad was amazingly delicious! When you're craving chipotle and none around but other Mexican places, Maui tacos a good choice!

I always stop in at Maui taco when I'm on the island. Good food, cheap, and wonderful salsas with Hawaiian themes. This is only my second time at this location. More seating than any other Maui taco I've seen.

As good a fish taco as I have had. They were delicious. They were made fresh and incredibly morish.

Wow, this place is a crap Shack. Basically messed up my order, my buddy's order, the order prior to ours and the lady's behind us. On top of that the One taco was meager and the kids taco was nasty. Frankly I'm afraid of what my Chutney Channel will feel like later. Avoid at all costs and go to a local place, not a chain.

There was no line when I went so I was happy. They took my order and I waited a little for my food which was no problem. I had the hamburger beef and cheese quesadilla. It was good, I could have used more of the sour cream and guacamole though. The salsa bar was good, there was a lot of selections and was kept clean. I would definately go there again.

Poor customer service. Really poor customer service. Imagine placing your order with a girl who has a look of disgust on her face and asking, "yeah. what da ya want?" I was speechless for a moment. I would have given one star for the customer service alone but I like their food. I ordered the Napili burrito and it's so huge, I couldn't eat it in one seating. They have a great salsa bar and I added cilantro and onions to my burrito from the bar. I also love their pineapple salsa. Their horchata drink is pretty good too.

We were driving all around the airport area looking for a decent place to eat something that wasn't shady or didn't have poor reviews on yelp. While this Maui tacos is a little tougher to get to since it's in a mall we highly recommend it. Try the quesadillas they hit the spot for us.

I wish i didnt even need to give one star. The workers are soooo rude here. They were too busy talking stories that they lost 6 meals that we were goin to order. So sad thats probably why their always so slow. I hope the owners realize before they go out of business!!

Quick eats, fresh & fast, I had the island fish taco with pineapple salsa, it came with tortilla chips on the side, the salsa bar was clean, and the price was right, great lunch especially in comparison to the food served on the cruise ship!

What a rip off!!! I spent almost $10 on the original Maui taco and a drink. They gave one handful of nachos and two small soft shell tacos the size of taco bell's . They put the two soft taco tortillas right on top of each other and then dumped some of the beef on top. It was tough getting the meat on the next tortilla. It was enough food for a four year old. I eventually went to McDonald's because I was still hungry. The lady in the front was not very specific when I asked her how much food I was getting and I was very disappointed.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
