The breaded teriyaki is Ono. That's pretty much what I usually get there.

Not my favorite plate lunch... its worth it to go to Da Kitchen or Fran's. Kinda dirty and rundown.

Great local plate lunch spot. Clean and fast service with a friendly smile. The crispy roast pork w/tomatoes & onions served on Wednesdays is the essense of bacon and is to die for.

While working on Maui today I had to find a place where I could pick up something quick, as I had a lot of work to do today. Upon opening up my Yelp app., I look around for places to eat in the Kahului area. Suddenly I came across a place called Cupie's Drive-In, and it was only a block or two away from the bank where I was working today. Turn on my phone for directions, and jumped into my rental. Got the place in a few minutes or so. As I drove up to the private parking lot, I could see the Cupie's Drive-In sign, but as I looked at the restaurant, I saw something that said "Bento's" or something like that, which kind of confused me. I walk into the joint.........and you can tell this place has seen better days as far as decor goes. There are like 10 little tables, in the eating area..........one table looked broke, and another table where the bench seat was, you could see the covering was ripped out. Guys (dudes / fella's) let me be straight wid' cha............if you're on a casual date, or you're with your girl..........I wouldn't take her here cuz this place is a DUMP! She deserves a lot better! Unless you were trying to break up with her, or whatever.......(but don't tell her I said that). Buwahahahaha! On the brighter side............I must say, the food was pretty good! But I have to forewarn you that it's all about picking the right stuff! This eatery is like a local "Patti's Chinese Kitchen" if you know what I mean, where there are items made, and left in the steamer pots. You go to the counter & order what items you want to eat. As I came up to the ordering counter, I choose a 2 item plate ($10.36). The plate comes with rice or chow funn, and a scope of mac salad........... I picked the following items today - Sweet Sour Pork, Fried Chicken, & Chow Funn........I skipped out on the mac salad (you know me about mayonnaise). What can I say about the grindz? The Sweet Sour Pork, & Fried Chicken was EXCELLENT! The Sweet Sour Pork had very nice flavor, the pork was meaty and not to fatty! The Fried Chicken was light & crunchy......kinda reminded me of some fried chicken from a Okazuya. As for the Chow Funn...........this is where they failed. The Chow Funn was flavorless & Bland, I could not see too much stuff mixed with it other than some green onion & shaved carrots. The taste of the chow funn was just like they only added salt. To top it off, as I was eating the chow funn, several parts of the noodles were hard, which lead me to say it was probably sitting in the steamer pot for too long. Overall, I still enjoyed the entree's I picked today.......it was very tasty. If you do decide to eat here..........be ready to slum it! Lol!

This is DH's local favorite for quick take-out! As for me...meh, I've experienced better! He must eat here at least once whenever we go to Maui for a visit. He usually gets the cheeseburger and fries and their famous "Ketchup Mustard Mayo" sauce whilst I order my usual mini breaded teriyaki with either rice or chow fun (which is usually always on the dry side). Prices are a little on the expensive side as well! I probably would try someplace else but I give in to my husband's liking (and my growing hungry stomach for lunch) since he still kinda have a nostalgic sense of Cupies before it changed owners.

Cupie's will NEVER be the same as before. Once the new owners took over EVERYTHING changed. Chowfun, Shrimp Omelet, Breaded Teriyaki, Chop Steak, Grilled Cheese, Mac Salad and more! They have all changed! I ate there once after they were bought out, and took a bite and tossed out my food! Ever since then I NEVER ate there again! So sad. My favorite place to eat, gone down the drain! If I could rate them 0 Stars, I would!

If Yelp was around back when I was younger then this would have been 5 stars. Sadly Cupie's hasn't been the same since the mid 1990's I don't know when the new owners took over but this place has really gone down the drain. Last two times I ate here were in 2003 and I couldn't even finish what I ordered. Tried again in like 2009 or 2010 with the same results. I don't personally know if it has gotten worse I haven't even once considered going back to find out since from what I've heard from friends still on Maui (who remember the real Cupie's) it hasn't . If you loved Cupie's back in your small kid days no bodda coming here now, da food stay junk already.

This review will just be brief. Went to Maui for business trip for one day and didn't have much time to drive around and explore other options. 1. Nice parking lot, enough stalls, but I assume it would fill up as more people come 2. Place is super old and runned down. Kind of scary to know what the back kitchen looks like. 3. Rather dirty, hence #2 above. 4. Cops were eating there, so it has to be a good place, right? 5. Has plenty local favorites (i.e.-teriyaki beef, hamburger steak, teri burger, lau lau, etc. 6. They have daily specials that average in price from $7.19 to $10 depending on the plate. 7. Since I was short on time, I just had a mini kalua pig plate. Came with 2 scoops of rice (I asked for 2-scoops in lieu of a mac salad) and a heaping scoop of kalua pig. Took it back to the office and gave it a try. It was not that bad, though, I have had better. I think there was a little too much smoked flavor added, and still, it was rather not salty. Which is good. But it lacked a balance, IMO. Anyways, if I'm ever on Maui again, I probably would try something else, not saying this is a bad place, but really, not quite a place I'd go out of my way to see again.

I fondly remember snacks and lunches from Cupie's after trips to the library, summer school, or whenever we were in the neighborhood. I always ordered the chow fun - a Hawaiian-style dish that I haven't found recreated on the mainland. Wide, flat Chinese egg noodles pan sauteed with soy sauce, scallions, bean sprouts, and spam or hamburger, sometimes with the addition of scrambled egg. A little greasy, infinitely slurpable, and packed in a styrofoam cup. Cupie's is certainly a drive-in - parking outnumbers the cement tables outside the walk-up ordering window. Anticipate crowds and taking your lunch to go!

Awww man, I was born and raised in Maui, so I absolutely have fond memories of Cupies. This was the "spot". Plate lunches in the cardboard take out boxes and mini bentos were awesome! I always had the #2 - chow fun, breaded teri beef, hot dog, and rice. We frequented here often as my mom would either pick food up for us for an after school snack or we would head there and eat up. And, lets not forget their shrimp omelette! Ohh wow, no one comes close to what I remember the taste was like! Every Friday I had to call before 4pm to order a laulau plate - the best! The place was always packed!! Fond memories indeed. As they sold the place in the early 2000's, it has NEVER been the same. I had a chow funn at a car show and I was pretty disappointed =( So I tried going to the drive-in and let me just say, in the past 10 years I have not had the urge to go back. Bummer! If you never had the old school Cupies, you wouldn't have anything to compare to, and you probably would enjoy it. As for me, I will pass, thanks...

It's been a looooooong time since I last went to Cupie's. I am not certain if this place still has the same pull as it did in the past, but it used to be the hot spot for plate lunch and after school snacks. The prices here are reasonable, since you still get mounds of food in a single order. However, I was a little surprised that a lot of the food looked not-so-fresh when I stopped by in the evening. My cousins and I were the only ones around, which was unusual. I remember waiting in line at a crowded Cupie's with packed outdoor tables. I will say that the sweet sour pork I ordered was FANTASTIC, probably because it was one of the more fresh items out that day. And, the mac salad was ok - not amazing, not great. As for service, the guy running the counter did not seem very interested in helping us out, even though we were the only customers in sight. I'm not sure if he was nervous or just had a break-up or what, but he was a little distracted. Though, he was very honest when it came to pointing out the more recently cooked items, and for that, I am ever grateful. Perhaps it was just an off-day for them. I am willing to give Cupie's another shot, out of loyalty to this Maui staple. So, I really hope the next visit is more promising.

There Hawaiian plate on Fridays is awesome and one of the few places you can find squid luau. If you are looking for vegan or health food then keep driving. If you want greasy spoon good old fashion plate lunch this is the place. They have some different specials every day. But almost always have breaded teriyaki and roast pork. Not really a sit and eat place as they only have a few outdoor concrete tables but great for grabbing a to go lunch.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
