My apologies to Big Daddy O for this late review. Been meaning to write this since February but I kept putting it off. I love Yelp. I can always rely on my fellow Yelpers to provide the latest, awesome tidbits on hidden gems such as these. $3 kimbap? Yes, please! Please read Big Daddy O's splendidly sweet & succinct review for all the details. I parked at Hale Pawaa, (kitty corner to this place) since I had a family errand to tend to over there so parking was not an issue for me. Everything is made to order and it's only a one lady operation so patience is the order of the day here. As for me, I think my overall impression was like a Jedi mind trick experience..... I do not recall the ajumma who took my order utter a single word to me, lol. And here I thought I was the quiet one...believe me, I write more than I talk. Luckily because of the previous reviews & pictures I knew what I wanted to order. My favorite of the three I tried was the tuna, but that's just how I roll. Maybe I'll be adventurous next time and try the tuna & cheese kimbap ($3.50). And to ALL you Yelpers out there who write reviews, post pics, leave tips or check-in comments, Thank You! Your powers of persuasion has a strong influence on me. May Yelp be with you always.

Truth be told when there is ANYTHING seaweed related, I can scarf that down with little hesitation. Korean seaweed soup, those crazy vinegary seaweed banchans they serve at Korean restaurants, anything sushi that has nori, heck, even those seaweed fried rolls they serve at dim sum. Another grand favorite of mine is the kimbap. For those unfamiliar, it is the Korean version of the maki roll. In many ways, I prefer this version over the Japanese maki easily. Kimbap is what Family Sushi House specializes and they do it well. The shop is pretty much a hole in the wall, right next to Crab Bucket, and is operated by a nice, quiet Korean lady. The menu here is simple: kimbaps, multiple ways. Oh, and soda for a dollar. I can easily eat two kimbap rolls in one sitting so my orders are usually one beef kimbap and a vegetable kimbap, both uncut. I call them Lefty and Righty because once I was so hungry after a workout with a huge kimbap craving, I was eating the beef kimbap on my left hand and vegetable kimbap on my right. You can insert your witty innuendo about my Lefty and Righty via comments. Service is fast, parking can be a little difficult if the private lot of about 10 stalls is full. I suggest driving there from Ewa side of Young so you can scope out if there is any open parking stalls. If there isn't, continue on past Keeaumoku and park behind the Department of Agriculture building. Don't forget to feed that meter though.

Just like mom's! As a Korean, delicious kim bap is hard to come by. We just had some from Palama's Market and I was extremely disappointed. The flavor was off. I mean how hard is it to mess up kim bap! Anyhow, Family Sushi House is on point. Nothing fancy, just authentic korean kim baps. We ordered the beef kim bap and the kimchi km bap and she whipped them up with a quickness. They were seasoned perfectly and reminded me of my mom's. The lady was super sweet, efficient, and I only wish we lived closer because this is the perfect quick meal for on the go's. Highly recommend!

I really like kimbap but I normally just go to Palama Market which has pretty good kimbap in my opinion. However, a korean co-worker of mine told me about this place so I had to come try it. The located is located one block mauka of Champion Bar, right between Young Street and Beretania. It's a small location located on the first floor. The lady who is in the pictures already posted is the only one I've seen working there. She makes your rolls to order, very quickly. I've only had the kimbap and the tuna cheese but both are very very good. Good balance of rice, veggies, meat, egg, etc. Really tasty and can't beat the $3/roll ($3.50 for tuna cheese) price! Only recommend calling ahead for large orders because it is just her making it and if there are other people in line it may take a while. Cash only!

Her name is Yoon and like her sushi house she is small and unassuming. To call her place a restaurant would be incorrect. there really are no sit down and eat accommodations. It's strictly grab and go. It is easy to miss. It is located on the Makai Ewa corner of Young Street and Keeamoku. Entry to the parking lot is from Young Street just before Keeamoku. It is a tiny shop. In fact it's so tiny it reminds me of a storage room that has been converted into her shop. It is strictly a Korean sushi joint so don't expect any tekka maki stuff. Strictly Kim bap. Everything there is made fresh, just as you order it. She works quickly and efficiently with a minimum of chatter. The end results are not disappointing. And at three dollars a roll you can't beat the price. So if you are in the mood for family-style Korean sushi definitely give this place a look. Let's help out the little business owners, no pun intended. P. S. Bring cash.

Some mommy gave me some when their child had a party. Fresh, tasty, not overly seasoned. Well made, not falling apart. Very top notch on the flavor meter. Knows how to control the garlic, a notion often abandoned by my native countrymen. Visited the, "HOUSE" per se, a couple of weeks ago. Should be called, Sushi Closet but this does not diminish from the excellence of their product. Best in town. Better..........than...........(sacrilegious to say?).........Palama?

By Yelp's "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" 5-star rating, Family Sushi House gets my vote, being that it's the only place I know of that does made-to-order kimbap while you wait. I usually get my already-made kimbap from Queen's Super Market (Kalihi) or Keeaumoku Supermarket. Although tasty, it's made ahead of time and sitting under the warmers, so it can get quite soggy sometimes. FSH's shy owner is always friendly with a smile on her face. She doesn't like to keep people waiting, so she works fast in putting together my orders (although I don't mind waiting and cooling off in her a/c'd shop). yelp.com/biz_photos/fami… All kimbap rolls are priced at $3 each, tax-included. - Cheaper than all the other places I've bought kimbap at in the past. - Menu listed "spinach" in all the kimbap rolls, but all of my rolls had choy sum in it. A welcomed surprise for sure. 1) KIMCHI-BEEF: yelp.com/biz_photos/fami… -Ground beef, kimchi, sauteed choy sum & carrots, fried egg, daikon. -Kimchi is mild but tasty (perhaps to cater to locals not familiar with the intense spiciness that's expected from kimchi. I prefer my kimchi more spicy and ripe (sour). 2) BEEF: Same ingredients as the kimchi roll, sans the kimchi. yelp.com/biz_photos/fami… 3) VEGETABLE: Fishcake, daikon, fried egg, carrots & spinach. 4) TUNA: Tuna, mayo, daikon, spinach, carrots & fried egg. 5) CHEESE-TUNA: Same ingredients that are in the Tuna kimbap, but with slices of American cheese. - Haven't tried this yet. I like tuna and cheese, just not together. She doesn't have a catering menu, so she charges by the roll. yelp.com/biz_photos/fami… - Just give her a call before you come down, or give her 24 hrs notice for larger orders. Per owner, her hours are Mon-Sat, 8am-5:30pm. Closed on Sundays. - They only sell have kimbap and miso soup here. - This is NOT a restaurant, take-out only. Yay! I've got a new go-to place for my kimbap fix now. So glad I found out about this place.

I've only been here a handful of times. Each time I went, I liked what I got. They sell Kimbap here, and I really like Kimbap. This place makes unique ones like tuna & cheese. Yeah, I know.. sounds kinda strange. My first thought: WTF? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Tuna, mayo, cheese, rice, nori...KIMBAP??! Fortunately, it worked! I feel like it would really appeal to those who are unsure of Korean sushi. The tuna & cheese one is like an Americanized version... Anyway, if you like kimbap you might want to check this place out.

Sushi is limited to what's in the menu. But it's cheap...$3 for tuna, beef, kimchee, vegetable & $3.50 for cheese tuna sushi. All made Korean style. mmmm

Kimbab. If you know what I mean when I say it then come to this mom and pop shop. It's one person making korean kimbab for about $3/roll. It reminds me of the spots in Korea. Atmosphere: non applicable. Service: cashier and cook same person, place is run more like a food truck. Food: Decent kimbab but definitely not the best I've had. It's worth a try.

This is a hole in the wall korean sushi place located on the corner of Young and Keeaumoku street. Parking is available but enter on Young street and exit on Keeaumoku street. I ordered beef gimbap, korean sushi roll. It's similar to Palama's. The difference is the lady rolls it while you wait. It's not ready made. She takes about 5 minutes or less. You can hear soft crunchy sound as the lady cuts bite size roll. It's $3 for one roll. It's nothing like eating food that is freshly made.

Uncut; sheathed, almost firm, it's flavorful goodness released as soon as it's tip enters your mouth. Soy, garlic, sugar marinated beef, crunchy carrots, sweet egg, and gently spiced, lightly fermented kimchi surrounded by sesame seasoned sticky, short grain rice robed in seasoned, toasted laver (nori). This is gimbap and it's good! (Evil thoughts?) Family Sushi House is a tiny, hole in the wall shop run entirely by one industrious and passionate, elderly Korean woman. She makes just one dish, gimbap in three variants with a tuna roll as a frequent special: Kimchi beef (described above) Beef (above replacing the kimchi with sweet, pickled daikon) Veg (beef replaced by steamed fish cake) What's to say, rice is seasoned and rolls are assembled in front of you. Generous filling (70 percent filling, 30 percent rice). Incredible, well balanced, perfectly combined flavor and great textural contrast. Crazy inexpensive at $3 per roll. Take out only. Cash only. Call ahead for large orders. Located directly across the Department of Agriculture on Koreamoku (Keeaumoku St) but parking entrance is on Young St. Without a doubt, good eats.

Family Sushi House is literally a small little house. I don't think I would call it a restaurant and every thing is take out only. While the name says sushi, only kimbap is sold here. If you haven't had kimbap before, it's basically Korean rice rolls, but instead of sushi vinegar, the rice is seasoned with sesame oil. Korean seaweed, or gim, is saltier & crispier than Japanese nori. A super kind ajumma runs every thing herself and she makes the kimbap rolls to order. All the ingredients are fresh and I like how the room/"house" smells slightly of sesame oil. I almost always get the tuna ones, but all of them are simple but still very rich in flavor. $3 gets you a filling roll of kimbap and you get to support a friendly ajumma and her small business ^^

My wife has been on a kimbap rampage as of late. Since I was in the area this morning decide to pick some up from her usual fav, Ireh. I remember coming here long ago and since is about a block away from Ireh, decided to pick up a couple of rolls from Family Sushi House to compare. Kimbap here is all she does, and boy she does it well. Fresh made to order, each roll is carefully and quickly crafted. She is good! She spit out 3 rolls in less than two minutes. Bought 2 vege for my wife and a meat for me. My roll was perfect. Nicely seasoned with sesame oil, spinach, daikon, carrot, egg and meat. For $3 a roll, this is the best deal in Koreamoku. I think I might be eating a lot of kimbap too from now on too.

Warning: Don't go here expecting "sushi" despite the business name. My office is right down the street so Family Sushi House is a twice-weekly stop for my authentic Korean kimbap fix. Average folks will be okay with one roll ($3) while big-eaters like me still get their fill for six bucks, tax included! Although the normal kimbap (beef w/ veggies) and kimchi are good, the star is the tuna roll. I prefer without cheese since I'm not a huge fan of American.

A serious hole in the wall. I've been driving by the place for over two years now and never noticed that it was a store. The only way I found out was by walking by it one day. The inside is literally just a kitchen, refrigerator, and a few chairs! The place is too tiny to dine in, but it seems intended for take out kimbap anyway. The lady who makes the kimbap is this cute, middle-aged Korean lady who doesn't speak much English. I'm guessing she's the owner, but I can't say for sure. The last 4-5 times I was there, she was the only one making kimbap. It was a flat $3 for a roll, tax included. From my last count, I believe there were about eight pieces in one roll. They also sell drinks for $1. They have different kinds of flavors: Beef, kimchee, veggie (though it actually has fishcake in it!!), tuna and tuna+ cheese. It's a really simple place to grab a quick bite. There's nothing too fancy about the place, but the food is healthy and fresh. It feels a lot like having a homemade meal. I personally like the flavor and love the low price. It's walking distance from my office, so it's definitely become one of my new lunch spots!

The kimbap is delicious (try the tuna one for something different) and the lady who works here is super sweet. She has a daughter in college, so it feels nice giving business to a family-owned business. It also feels nice and clean in her shop. The only downside is parking can be limited. She's a one woman shop so if you have a big order, would recommend calling ahead of time.

The most authentic and delicious kimbap here in Honolulu. There is nowhere that comes close to this place other than making it myself.
