We got pretty hungry while we were in Hana and so we stopped by the Hana Hotel (where I stayed the last time I was in Maui) and came here for lunch. We sat outside with the view of the ocean! I had the passionfruit, pineapple and guava juice, freshly squeezed! Hubby had the honey lemonade, which was very refreshing. Then for lunch, I had the chicken salad sandwich with mangoes and guavas served with a side of taro chips and sweet potato chips. I finished it in 3 minutes! It was so good! Hubby had the island burger, which was cooked perfectly. We talked to another couple who ordered the wrong thing and said it wasn't flavorful at all, so I guess it depends on what you order here. The price is a little high considering it's just lunch, but that's what you get for eating at a hotel. Service was great and people are friendly.

When people tell you that there are not many places to eat in Hana, listen!! We got to town and were ready to eat a bit on the later side (2:30) so some of the places that look yummy based on Yelp were closed (sigh) ... leading us to the Paniolo Lounge. Food is mediocre and overpriced. Example, we had fish tacos with fish of the day (swordfish). There were 2 tacos with approximately 4 small bites of fish total (2 bites of fish/taco) on a small soft tortilla that had melted cheese (neon yellow fake cheddar), some avocado, lettuce, tomato ... for $20. The gazpacho was under-seasoned and mealy with lumps of tomato. Ceviche was strongest of lunch items but small portion.

Wonderful live music, great service, and good food. Yes, it's pricey, but a great spot to relax and enjoy a cocktail and fresh food. The hula dancer was very entertaining. We really enjoyed our evening!

Overpriced. Since it's attached to the Travaasa hotel, the restaurant had a nice view and ambiance. It also may have been extra peaceful because it was a holiday. Anyways, my bf and I came here for a snack during our road to Hana drive. We shared the fish tacos and were underwhelmed. For 20 dollars, the amount of fish that we received was equivalent to the side of my thumb. In addition, they were really nothing special. I would recommend checking out the hotel but not the restaurant. Totally not worth the price.

Huh. I'm at a destination hotel. You know those fancy hotels that got built in the middle of nowhere but the countryside is pretty? Yeah. Turns out there's some cool parks near Hana (on Maui) but the only hotel in town is Travaasa and they want $375, to start. I ate at their restaurant and got charged $45 for mahi mahi and rice. (This is Hawaii where most of the locals know how to fish and fish is plentiful.) As long as newly wedded suckers keep coming, they'll survive.

I got the tofu curry dish. It was fine, but overpriced ($30) and the service was terrible/non-existent. There was also a cheesy feeling to the whole place--we're in Hana, not in Lahaina. The only reason I went here is because it's open "late" (til 9) and the markets and everything else were closed.

Weird place. Very slow service. $15 Mai Tai's for nothing special, don't bother. We ordered Sweet potato chips with guacamole. Interesting, quite different and I enjoyed. A little skimpy on the portion though, we asked for more chips so we could enjoy the rest of the guacamole. Considering this place is kind of slow and people are standing around doing nothing, it's dirty, needs a good clean. I probably wouldnt return based on all of the above factors, although when in Hana you don't have a lot of choices, especially after this hotel.

Terrible. Service was great, but food was bland, toast was burnt and the bacon was terrible. Not to mention when I saw "longhis style" French toast I got excited because the longhis in Lahaina is one of my favorite breakfast spots! If you try to pretend to be a "longhis" please at least have the same bacon. Stop trying to pretend you're a franchise of longhis. Beautiful view but a total Rip off, I would have much rather and had Thai for breakfast from a mom and pop shop.

Yikes!!!! It's that bad. And it's such a shame because the hotel grounds are pretty but it is completely out of place and out of touch with reality. You'll regret it if you stop.

I do not know why such negative reviews? The place had an excellent view with a nice cool breeze. Yes, food was expensive, but not anymore than any other upscale hotel eatery. I had the grilled fish (mahi mahi) sandwich and my family had the burgers. My sandwich was very good especially after I "borrowed" the guacamole meant for my daughters burger. Had a lot of flavor. I sampled the burger and it was cooked correctly and taste was not so bad. Could use a little seasoning, but other than that, tasted like a burger. Service was very good and waitress gave us some tips on where to head to after lunch. Nice place for lunch.

As always, I like to start with the good. The only reason that I didn't give this place one, lonely star is because of the sweet waitress and the amazing live, Hawaiian music. The space itself is nice, open, and airy tucked away in the Travaasa Hotel Hana. There are two things in this world I simply cannot resist: wings and french fries. (Amurrrrica!) Even if I know that there's a chance that I could be walking into a terrible trap, I must try them just in case I discover the best wings or fries to ever dance across my taste buds. Well, these wings were not one of those wonderful surprises. Fail. Yuckfest 2013. I hated everything about them. I wish that I had four hands to give them four thumbs down. They were overly breaded, fatty, and just all around disappointing. The only good thing about them is that they came out very quickly compared to the long wait for our "surf and truf." Their words not mine. We decided to split the very pricey surf and turf, which consisted of three garlic shrimp (which I'm assuming were sautéed), a filet and mashed potatoes. Too bad I could have watched an episode of Lost while we waited. I was getting anxious and very annoyed. But, my anger was quelled by the waitresses sweet demeanor and large amounts of heavenly nectar, also known as POG (Passion Fruit, Orange Juice, and Guava- what what! Panera Bread's lemonade has got nothing on this delightful liquid dream). There was a gentleman who played the ukelele and sang Hawaii songs that told of the history of Hana. It was truly a beautiful part of the evening and made all the waiting a little less painful. That said, this might be a good place to stop and get some drinks, listen to tunes, and move out. I wouldn't go here if you are really looking for a great place to eat, which are few and far between in this tiny town.

Whattt? So we had a great time here. This is where the road to Hana stopped for us. We were craving beer and had lunch...if lunch were bikini blondes!!!! The waitstaff was awesome. Kimo (spelling?) was our waiter. He was so cool and down to earth. Gave us the lowdown on what to do and see and what life for locals was like. Cool, interesting stuff. Perfect view of the bay and a gorgeous day with great outdoor seating. Lizards running around and Mina birds. We really had a nice relaxing afternoon with no pressure to eat /order food. It felt like we were truly on vacation. Kudos to Kimo and all the friendly staff!!!

Please please please read all those warning signs that say last food before Hana. Of course I ignored them thinking, yea right, its a destination town, there has to be stuff there, and these lil stands are just trying to be lil tourist traps. Yea, there is practically NOTHING in Hana Town. We took our sweet time driving, exploring etc that we didn't reach Hana until about 3:30pm. Whatever lil stands are normally open were long closed up. I yelped it, and found the Paniolo Lounge, that *real* tourist trap I was so afraid of. The grounds are gorgeous, and the ambience inviting, that get s a 5 for sure, I mean, its Hawai'i and this is just a idyllic town on the coast. The service was very slow, and the food very overpriced, and pretty bad. I had a chicken sandwich and the bun was so huge and wet, I pulled it off and just ate the chicken. The fries were so overcooked, they were literally hollow inside-how that is possible is beyond me. My friend had the mahi-mahi sandwich and same experience with the bun. Had we not been starving, we would have sent it all back and asked for a refund :/ Oh, and the total for the 2 sandwiches, 2 sodas was close to $50!

The only reason to eat here, is the lack of other choices for dinner. Prices high, food boring taste less and simply un inspired. Even the drinks, no thought of creativity just basic and boring...not to mention over priced Eat a big late lunch at the Thai place and skip dinner

I rolled into Hana at 4 PM today and found Braddah's and Panee's closed for the day and Hana Ranch restaurant closed for a renovation. I should have just returned to my lodging to have some baguette, Brie and wine but decided to chance it here. The dining room menu is seriously out of touch with reality. $51 for a tenderloin? Here? I ended up in the lounge and ordered the Kula mixed green salad ($14), a cheeseburger and fries ($22) and a can of the local beer ($7). The salad was ok but small (about a cup) and didn't appear to contain a detectable quantity of roasted macadamia nuts as advertised. There were pine nuts and some other nut chopped up to the point of being unrecognizable. Good news: only one bad leaf of greens. Dressing lacked snap though. Unlike several reviewers, my burger was pretty good--done med rare as ordered and with nice char and grilled flavor. It filled the bun and was not too thick or too thin. The shoestring fries were crisp and hot and plentiful (could not eat all of them). The server (Sherae) was friendly and attentive without hovering. My requests for some water and a salt shaker were quickly met. Timing of the drinks, salad and main was perfect. The room has a nice ambience and is open to an outdoor deck on one side. The live Hawaiian music and hula were well received by the diners. To each his own--I'm not a big fan of live acts while I eat. This place has potential if it could deliver more value for the dollar. I ended up with one beer, a green salad, burger, fries, tax, and a 20% tip for $53.79. That's absurd even in my experience (Alaska resident).

First, the ambiance is very inviting and the view is quite nice. The pina colada was good. Our waitress was great. There is the good. The Corona was not cold, but rather cool. And after hiking one wants an ice cold beer, right? Now to the food. I ordered the $20 burger, which is obscene for a burger. But whatever, I was starving and I figured, how can one screw up a burger. Well they made it with the patty a good 20-30% smaller than the bun, no spices or flavor whatsoever, with a skimpy portion of equally flavorless fries. Really? For $20 the burger better be one of the best I've ever had! And it should at least be the size of the bun! I would have sent it back, but I was starving and wanting to get on the road. My girlfriends tacos were equally disappointing. Even if you are starving, don't stop here unless you want less than average food at a rip off price

Great tropical cocktails, friendly bartenders, good (although pricey) dinner that featured incredibly fresh, local, (often organic)ingredients (produce and seafood). We were not staying at the hotel, but stopped in for drinks and to watch the NCLS final game in the nearby 'library' (as die hard Giants fans). Awesome service from the bartender- the Mai Tais and Lava Flows and Passion Fruit Margaritas were really tasty. We stayed for dinner- the Kampachi was exceptional, the local greens salad was delicious (local tomatoes, cukes, Mac nuts- very flavorful), and scallops great! Highly recommend for a treat. (Oh, and check out the local art gallery next door).

See my review for the Ka'uiki Dining room! The bartender Rob was great to chat with, and so were the guests that happened to be there. Everyone is extremely hospitable and...happy! Laid back, beautiful views.

Stopped here for lunch because there seemed to be little else open in Hana. In retrospect we would have been better off with pineapples and banana bread from a roadside stand. Going with the safe and simple choices, we ordered a burger and an appetizer-sized Margherita pizza. The burger was dry, overcooked, and thoroughly average. It was accompanied by limp, greasy fries. It would have been barely acceptable at $4, but, unfortunately it was $21 (and among the cheapest entrees)! The $14 pizza was described as "mozzarella, tomato, and basil". What arrived was a mix of some white and some yellow cheese. No visible tomato or basil. Based on the taste and the consistancy of the crust, I would bet the substantial price of the burger that it was a frozen pizza. The staff, it seems, knew better than to ask how the food was - we never saw them again after it arrived. If you are in Hana and hungry, get a package of stale cheese and crackers from a local gas station before considering eating here.

The food here is OK, but is nothing to rave about or come back for. The only things this place has going for it are: 1. There is no other good food available at night in Hana. 2. It has a bar. 3. It is not the other hotel restaurant, ten feet away. 4. They have good live music most evenings of the week. The Paniolo Lounge is next to the main restaurant of the Hotel Hana Maui and, as you'd expect, is overprice to the point that their under-delivery is incredibly noticeable. If not for the absolute geographic isolation of the city this place would not survive. It's about your best option for eating dinner in Hana, but that's no better a statement than the fact that being Mormon is about your best option for success in Utah.

Got the buffet as part of our Road to Hana tour. First the good: pretty place in a beautiful setting. Now, the bad: indifferent service. As if our table were invisible. The food selection was very limited. I tried the salad-wilted with lots of mushy, rotten greens. The dressing was ok. The fried rice was tasteless, hard & with an unpleasant texture. No one came by to pick up used dishes. No one refilled our coffee. Just bad.

My fiancé and I are staying at Hana Kai and wanted to celebrate our recent engagement with a few cocktails. Went to the Paniolo Lounge around 6:30 and were pleasantly surprised that live music was just starting. CJ, Leokane, and their friend were very talented and so enjoyable to listen to. Their rendition of "I'll Be There" was fantastic. My fiancé requested his favorite song "Hotel California", and CJ was simply brilliant performing with his melodic voice and ukulele. We really appreciated CJ accommodating our request and it was one of our best memories to date. Ryan the bartender is such a welcoming person and a highly skilled mixologist. We indulged a little more than planned due to his skills, everything he crafted was so delicious we wanted to keep on indulging! Ryan's superb customer service made us feel like locals. Next time we return to Hana we'll definitely pay him a visit. So much mana in Hana and CJ n Ryan just added to it. Thanks guys!

My wife and I stopped in after our drive to Hana, hoping for a decent meal before turning in. We got to hear some good music (I bought a CD from CJ Helekahi, who was performing along with two other fine musicians and singers.) Unfortunately the service was less than adequate. Our waitress was slow to arrive, only provided us with appetizer menus (we later saw others ordering from a full menu), and didn't check on us once the food finally arrived. We each ordered small salads, iced teas and shared the flat bread pizza appetizer. The caesar dressing was watery, the nuts on my wife's salad were old and turning rancid, and even the tea was weak. The flatbread pizza was blandly sweet. Because we were exhausted and hungry, we ate it, figuring it would be a while before we ate if we sent it back. Then the bill came. For two salads, one appetizer, and two iced teas (no refills) - $62. If you want to hear good music, come here, but eat elsewhere first.

Ugh. We drove the road to Hana and were so excited to get to Hana and find a little lunch spot....yeah, what lunch spot? Your options for dining in Hana are very limited. We found this place as pretty much our only option, and I'm pretty sure they know it. We were the only people here for most of our "meal". Everything looked so blah and overpriced, we settled for splitting the veggie quesadilla. It came with a side of fries....ok.....rice or veggies or something would have made more sense, but whatever. The fries are just out of a frozen bag, thick cut, mealy. Gross. Our quesadilla's guacamole was not very fresh nor very flavorful. The quesadilla itself had black beans that had been so over cooked and left to sit that they were so hard as to be inedible and we wound up both spitting quite a few out, gross. The "salsa" came out of a jar and was ick. The "service" was slow and uninterested. Next time, I will bring loads of cash and enjoy eating from one of the many roadside stands or food trucks on the actual road to Hana. Pass on this place.

There used to be a separate bar menu than the restaurants - now they have simply offered the dining room menu at same prices without the more formal atmosphere. We really enjoyed being able to relax, kick back and be a little more romantic and cuddly. The restaurant is fantastic, but we ended up here most nights. A Mai Tai is INCREDIBLE here, but as opposed to the Grill's $10, this is a $15 mai tai. That's $60 bucks for two each. That's rough. Again... service is impeccable with stunning and kindly employees who really care to serve, get to know you, and be real. But be aware. Then drink away! =) There are adorable kittens running all over the place. I am sure it's a pain, but they are too cute not to mention. I love those little beggars. Bugga's. They have free Luau's and Hawaiian music from time to time, check ahead. they just remodeled it a couple weeks ago, and the new deck and outdoor seating looks fantastic! The service is awesome - somewhat unexpected for a place so remote. The food is also unexpectedly good. Since losing their name chef, the local staff is preparing some amazingly interesting, fresh, and tasty cuisine. Some of the same food as the restaurant... We had the Ahi Sashimi which was a fantastic cut and freshness. The Flatbread pizza was *delicious*, as were the salads... the wedge, the Caesar. The potato leek soup was really good... perfectly seasoned, not too heavy. The Filet was outstanding and a huge portion - perfectly prepared. The ribs - wait! you get it! Over 5 days we sampled almost everything, and although they didn't change the menu, it really didn't get old. It's an exceptional place, and don't miss dessert.

Located in beautiful Hana, Maui, this restaurant is a part of the Hana hotel. Came here for a late lunch as we were visiting Hana for the day. We arrived around 5 on a Thursday and there didn't seem to be much open in Hana. We decided to eat here despite the price. Luckily we were in time for the lunch menu, the dinner prices do not start until 6. We each got burgers for around 10 a piece and they were cooked perfectly and well seasoned. There were many options for "lunch" and if you can arrive before 6 you can save a good bit of money. The staff was very nice and friendly, though they could have stopped by more, especially considering we were one of only three tables in the entire place. As good as the burgers were, the standout of this place is the view. The hotel and the grounds surrounding it are absolutely beautiful.

4 stars for ambiance, 2 for service, & 3 for the food. We enjoyed dinner on a fantastic outdoor deck in a rain forest setting. We shared 5 appetizers, no entrees. The waitress was inattentive, only gave us 5-inch plates that looked like coffee cup saucers as our share plates, and never provided a discard bowl for clam shells or pork rib bones. But she was friendly when present. Avoid the so-called avocado & shrimp "cocktail" -- the avocado half was brown, as if it had been pitted hours before, during prep, and the shrimp was bland. The scallops were well cooked but WAY over peppered, yet under salted. The spare ribs has good flavor but were fatty and had no crispy char to them at all. The clams were good. The fern salad was forgettable. The only highlight was the pineapple mojito. I just wish the various roadside stands were open for dinner, but Travaasa seems to have the only sit-down places around Hana. At the typical resort prices. Baffling, really.

My wife and I have stopped here for a drink and snacks several times over the years. They are very consistent: average food at above average prices. Service is good, the ambiance is excellent. We'll keep coming if for no other reason that it is the nicest place in town. Never made it to the restaurant as the wine list and menu are the same. Occasionally have live music which has always been good. Now if they could entice the owner of Cafe Romantica to come and cook for them, this place would be out of this world...

    (3)
  • Tracy D.

Yay for the live music and the local crowd! The Paniolo Bar is pretty much the only nightlife in Hana, so you get locals mingling with the hotel guests in a comfortable lounge with gorgeous views. They have local Hawaiian bands playing Thurs-Sat nights, and it's a great place to grab drinks and appetizers and enjoy the atmosphere. If it's crowded, there's ample seating on the courtyard couches too.
