Our go to restaurant in Suwanee for over 15 years. Food is very consistent, service is always good. Try the talapia salad for something healthy. Of course the chunky guacamole and margaritas are very good when you want to be bad. We are big fans of Paco, Adrian, and the whole gang at Monterrey.

This was one of our favorite go to restaurants until recently. The staff offers poor customer service with aggressive waitress/hostess who speak very little English. Its horrible customer service to blame the customer for asking too many questions when the truth is you speak minimum English. Please hire staff members with strong English to avoid getting orders wrong constantly. We don't have a problem with accents but we do have a problem with misunderstanding English and getting orders wrong on every visit. The food quality has also gone down serving burnt rice on more than one occasion. Please raise your standards Monterrey. Now my family goes to Cincos for the customer service and food quality.

The health scores here have been really bad several times so I'm always cautious when I come here. This time they have a 91 so I am giving it another shot! The food is your typical Mexican.

This Mexican restaurant is decent. It is average tasting food, but very easy on the wallet. The margaritas are good, not amazing. The live music on Saturday nights is awesome, perfect volume as well. The service is kind of lackluster, but ya can't beat the prices and their wide menu variety. Overall, not bad.

Ah Mexican...my favorite food. This place was a staple for hubby and I. We would go almost every day for lunch. Service was ok not great. Half of them don't even speak to you the entire time you are there. Worst meal was when my chimichanga came out and it was ICE cold int the middle, like frozen almost. Chimichangas are deep fried so why was it near frozen?? Went again and the meal had an odd taste to it, then that night and all next day hubby and I were throwing up nonstop. Will not go again ever.

As good as it gets for Mexican food. I've been dining here for years and they haven't missed a beat.

The service is fine, but the food is lousy. Either these people don't know how to cook or they've ruined the cuisine by "Americanization." I ordered fajita quesadilllas and couldn't help but notice that the beef had absolutely no seasoning. My mom opened her enchilada and tasted the chicken, which was also flavorless. When I questioned the waiter about the lack of any seasoning, he said that they only salt the meat there - no other seasoning! I don't know about you, but I can make far better Mexican and Tex-Mex food at my own house. Good seasoning is one of the few reasons why I eat out!

Ok, this is one of the two mexican resturants that my family frequents. My fiance and I usually eat here on Friday's for lunch. It is never too busy when we go. Now, if you want to go on Friday or Saturday night its a different story. The lunch portions, I usually get the lunch fajitas, are just the right size. I also love their cheesesteak burrito. The only thing that I do not like are the margaritas, which sucks but oh well....I'm not drinking on a Friday afternoon anyway. The service is wonderful. My glass is never empty, the food comes out quickly, and the waitresses even let my son to flirt with them ;)

This is inexpensive Mexican food done right. One of my many varieties of comfort food is Mexican food. I never gave it a second thought when it was easy to acquire, which it always seemed to be in the Atlanta area--perhaps an artifact of the rapid growth the area has seen in the last couple decades and the resultant influx of immigrant workforce, including those with entrepreneurial aspirations. The restaurants they open may not be "authentic Mexican," but honestly, I don't care. In spite of my purist interest in learning about authenticity, sometimes I just want a good meal that consists of the menu items I know and love already: this is the essence of comfort food, after all. Eating here has forced me to confront the reality that I've yet to find a place this down to earth; inexpensive; and tasty in the area I currently call home (Seattle). Even places that come highly recommended--whether by general consensus or by personal recommendation--haven't satisfied me in the manner that this simple restaurant did tonight. Stepping back for a moment, it's probably a good thing for my overall health, given my lack of discipline and penchant for hedonism, that I know of no such place back home. But for right now, hush you, for reminding me of this, and allow me to revel in the simple delight of the meal I had here. The space is attractive, if slightly--but only slightly--cramped: I had to move my leg and/or elbow at least once to allow a busser with a cart to get by our booth. But I came here to eat, not to ensure that the passageways were OSHA compliant. Service was prompt, friendly, and proactive. The chips were standard fare--not necessarily fresh and hot, but plenty tasty, unlike some I've had at other restaurants. The salsa was a finely-chopped variety without large chunks, with a medium amount of spiciness. We ordered the cheese dip with jalapenos. I tend to think cheese dip is always overpriced, pretty much universally, considering the ingredients involved and its simple, bulk preparation. This said, the portion of dip we received was amply able to sate four hungry adults until our food arrived, which occurred at that perfect moment such that we'd had long enough to enjoy the dip, but soon enough that we hadn't finished the dip and begun to get antsy wondering where our entrees were. I ordered the vegetarian combo "E," which consisted of a bean burrito "with nacho cheese," a cheese enchilada, and a quesadilla, all done well and all of which were especially tasty. In spite of having had a late lunch, I ate it all up without so much as a pause. My dad had been craving, and ordered, beef chimchangas, and my sister ordered the taquitos, and though we were not wholly consumed with our food, we ate with an efficiency that surely spoke to the satisfaction being delivered by our dinner choices. I should mention that my dinner was $7, and few, if any, of the selections on the vast menu were over $10. The only thing with which I was a little underwhelmed was the margarita. I don't know whether it was lacking tequila, or whether I just wasn't a fan of their mix, or whether it was a prepackaged mix, but there was a slightly off flavor. Whenever next I find myself here, I may consider trying one again to see if something was just off on this particular evening, or whether there's just something about the margaritas here such that I don't enjoy them as much as I normally enjoy a margarita. However, since I was here primarily to feed my face--a quest which was splendidly accomplished--I'm not going to dwell any longer on the margarita. It should be no surprise to me that Monterey delivered satisfaction, as out of all the Mexican options in the Suwanee area, my parents selected this one without hesitation (though it doesn't hurt that this is the most spatially local to their residence). One caveat to be aware of, and which has kept them from coming here in the past, are the crowds--often comprised of families with young children (not surprising considering the area)--that this establishment draws, particularly on Friday nights, according to the legend of paternal anecdote. At 7:00 on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the restaurant was entirely full, and we endured a brief wait for a table. Bottom line, if you are in northeast Atlanta and looking for a spot to get a tasty plate of Mexican slop, head to Monterey: it'll deliver the comfort ye seek.

The Chicken Soup here is the best in town. I also love the Chimichangas. But my favorite thing here is the homemade Mexican Guacamole. I love to have them add chopped fresh jalapenos to mine. But what really sets these guys apart is the service. We're treated like family by the owner and five or six different waiters and waitresses who usually even remember what day we were last there. On top of all that, the prices are great, also! I eat at this restaurant more than any other, overall. Try it, you'll love it!

For Americanized Mexican food at lunch, this is my spot. I almost always get the nachos and they are completely covered in queso. They have some great $5.50 lunch specials too. Next time I will probably get the lunch fajitas which are a little cheaper than my nachos but look a lot healthier. The staff is great at getting you in and out in 40 minutes flat, keeping drinks topped off, and the chip bowl full.

This is one of my family's favorite AmeriMex restaurants! It's right next to our house so we're in there often and the staff has taken the time to get to know us as 'regulars'. They have live entertainment throughout the week and the lighting and atmosphere are perfect for chips n dip, and fajitas! The portions are huge and yummy. Only thing I can say that's not good is that the bar is small and is visibly used as storage. It doesn't bother me at all, but it might bother some.

Best standard mexican restaurant in the area. I really love Chile Rellenos made with real Poblanos or Hatch chiles. I will always order them on one of the first couple times I try a place. Well the Monterrey Chile Rellenos are the gold standard for a regular mexican restaurant(i.e. not a gourmet/fine dining place). Wife loves the mexican shrimp, kids love the white cheese dip. It's the cheese dip this guy goes on about...which you can't get out west where we are now. xenite.org/white_cheese

I've been going here for years, and it's still one of my favorite mexican restaurants. I wouldn't call Monterrey's "fancy" or "upscale" (like maybe Cinco Mexican Cantina down the street), it's more comfortable and unpretentious and perfect for when we go out for a family dinner. The food is good, the staff is friendly, and the prices are very fair.

  • Scott S.

The food is decent, not as bland as a couple people make it out to be. I prefer this place over the nearby Cinco for both taste of the food and bottom line dollars (aka value). I've been there 3 times all of which were decent experiences except the most recent visit the waiter was pretty bad.

Always fresh, friendly, and clearly the best in the area. Strongly recommend the chicken nachos (made with lots of fresh real chicken), steak fajita quesadilla, and Margarita's. Only drawback is in the winter on very cold and windy days, don't sit near the door because the draft will kill you!

I have always loved this restraunt. The food is very good and great for the price. The hostess is always friendly and kind. They always have a manager on staff if you need anything. This restraunt is very kid friendly and they often have a band come in a sing. Overall, I love Monterreys

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
