I love this restaurant- and have been several times over the past year that I have lived here! It's quite cutting edge for Macon, although if you have ever eaten in Atlanta or DC or New York or Chicago you would be a little more used to this type of cuisine. It's farm to table, they locally source as much as possible and the menu changes every few months, including the cocktail menu! I love love LOVE the seasonal vegetable plate- one constant they have had is a dill creamed corn that is TO DIE FOR. I could literally eat an entire platter. (Although I have to say their cornbread is a little dry, but really, that's like the only thing I don't love there.) For "snacks" they also have delicious deviled eggs (I love me a deviled egg) and they used to have these ham fritters that everyone absolutely raved about- but evidently they go on hiatus until Fall so FYI. Other menu highlights are their desserts, our recently visit involved something called Cracked Pie that was, like crack (although the name is actually because they use fresh baked oatmeal cookies that they break apart to form a pie crust that they then fill with heaven, I mean, a pecan pie type filling, and when you bake the filling it cracks, or something like that, but really who cares, it's amazing) plus they top it with home made salted caramel ice cream that is like nothing I've tasted before. I'm drooling. But whenever I go and I've managed to save room for dessert I'm never disappointed. Ok- so the food is fantastic, duh (see above) but their drinks are really good too- they have an extensive whiskey/bourbon menu, a pretty decent wine list, but for me the highlight is their great cocktails- this last time there was a delightful blueberry collins but I once had something made with Georgia Peach infused whiskey...! Anyway, the service has always been amazing- they never rush you out, they answer any questions you have, our last waiter on our most recent visit spent 15 minutes discussing whiskeys with my husband and our friend which was awfully nice. The decor is also pretty neat- kind of taxidermy chic (big moose heads, etc) with Edison lightbulbs hanging everywhere. If you are in Macon you have to check this place out- you won't be disappointed.

Still a whole-hearted 5 stars! The boyfriend surprised me with a special date night here, and we were not disappointed! I had the drink special (the name of which I unfortunately cannot remember at the moment) and it was delicious. Something homemade with spiced rum and basil and mint, I think. It was delish! The boy had his Pinot Grigiot, which was reliably satisfying. This time we split their special as an appetizer. There was a crab cake on top, then a fried green tomato (I think?), then a small veal medallion, then another fried green tomato (I believe?). I took the crab and he took the veal; we were both very happy with the preparation. For his entree, boyfriend got the quail risotto again and found it just as good as before, although it had many more bones than it had on Valentine's Day. Not sure why that might be, but it didn't detract from his enjoyment. The risotto was perfection. I tried the country vegetable plate, and I'm SO glad that I did! I found small servings each of braised cabbage, some type of field peas, tomato, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, and cornbread. Each was cooked perfectly. I used to spend my summers in France, and this transported me back instantly to Sunday brunch at a family friend's farm in Normandy. Cornbread is usually my favorite thing ever, and this was good (if a bit too buttery for me), but the peas stole the show, hands down. SO. GOOD! For dessert, Boy had some sort of peanut brittle toffee thingamajig? It looked like a gigantic cookie topped with a huge scoop of ice-cream and garnished with generous pieces of peanut brittle. None of those are my favorite ingredients, so I didn't try any - but the Boy was in heaven. I had the Peach Crisp and requested no ice cream, which turned out to be the best preference ever. This is NOT a peach cobbler; don't think of it as such. The dessert is served in a mini cast iron frying pan, which is adorable and appropriate. The pan is filled with baked peaches, which are topped with a layer of crispy, bready goodness (I would guess: oatmeal, bread crumbs, cinnamon, and brown sugar? Maybe?). It was absolutely delicious, and the perfect amount of dessert to feel happily full without feeling weighed down. TL;DR: Dovetail remains my absolute favorite restaurant in Macon, GA for its fresh, local, organic ingredients; its intimate, friendly-yet-super-classy atmosphere; and its perfect, fine-dining recipes that ensure not only that every bite is exquisite, but ALSO that you will go home full and satisfied.

Took hubby out on a date and decided to try a new spot. Made reservations via Open Table and arrived promptly at 6pm. When hubby walked up to the Rookery doors I could tell he was underwhelmed at my surprise date location... pwah ha! I walked up the steps and he had no idea where I was going. He thought I just forgot to put our name down with the Rookery host! LOL! He had a surprised look as we walked up. The host welcomed us immediately and we were given a corner table. There was already a party there and a few other guests. I ordered a Peach something cocktail and it was the best ever. Small glass (too small) but SOOO good. Definitely quality over quantity. The starter bread was HORRIBLE. It tasted like flour and baking soda... lol... even the herbed olive oil couldn't cover the blandness. I ordered the duck chili topped with blueberry compote as an app and it was "meh". Husband thought so too. But the warm cornbread stick was crazy good!!! We ordered the catfish and grits app (upon recommendation) and boy-o boy-o... DELICIOUS! The grits, the catfish, the relish-y topping, YUMMO!!! We loved it. One thing I'll add is that both the duck chili and bread and catfish were lightly salted (you could say undersalted) but I didn't think that was a problem at all. Better to taste the different flavors in the food. I'd prefer undersalted than oversalted any day. Oh, we ordered a side of mac & cheese and we had to ask for it (server forgot, I think) and tasted it. It too was undersalted but it had bits of tasso ham that added a wonderful flavor but I found myself picking through looking for ham to salt the mac. So a little salt to the water would've gone a good way. But what do I know? We finished with the chocolate crème brulee and this is where my husband and I both "Mmm'd" at the same time when we found bits of "something" not sure... in the dessert and we ate it. I literally scraped every bit up and said, "I could have another." So overall, nice ambiance, food was hit (cornbread, catfish, brulee) and miss (bread, chili, mac), and service was great (the party table had an 'extra friendly/informative' server that I would've liked. Our server did give us tips that were good though - just not as "extra"... lol... ). I'd visit again. I'd love to try the filet. I'm glad Macon has this option for us.

We were looking for a nice place to take the parents in Middle Georgia, and Yelp led us here. First let me say that I was impressed with downtown Macon. I'd been there a few times before, but only in the daytime. This was a Saturday night, and there were several restaurants that were packed. The streets overall were still a little empty and there were a whole lot of empty store fronts, but there's huge potential in all of the beautiful historic buildings. So on to Dovetail - this would be a solid 4-stars for Atlanta, but I'm giving it 5-stars because it's by far the best dining experience I've had anywhere near the Macon / Warner Robins area, and much better than I expected. We had reservations at 8:30, and were seated around 8:40. The space is nice. A bit upscale, a bit hipstery, a bit dark and moody, a bit new-South. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, but a bit slow at times (waiting to order more drinks and waiting for bread, for example). We took his suggestion and ordered some deviled eggs and chili dusted pork skins. Both decent, and reasonably priced. We also got the "put ups" - basically 4 mini mason jars of different spreads (bacon marmalade, smoked chicken salad, pimento cheese, and lima bean hummus) with some bread. They were all really good. If you've had the "in jars" starter at Empire State South in Atlanta, this is like a mini copycat version. The bread was good, but they only brought out 1 piece of bread per person at first, so we had to ask for more (twice). The accidental bonus here was that when the bread ran out right away, we tried the bacon marmalade on the chili pork skins. It was all kinds of YES. Crunchy sweet pork goodness. We tried several different things for the main course - the adobo shrimp was decent, the rabbit risotto was excellent, the steak was good, and the mac and cheese was good. Overall the meal was quite good; it's clear the chef knows what he/she is doing. Drinks were all also very good, especially the house version of an old fashioned, which had a nice little smoky citrus kick. We split a cracked pie (excellent) and a cheesecake (good) for dessert. Definitely would recommend this if you're looking for a nice place to eat in Macon. it's probably one of the most expensive options in the area, but worth it.

This was a truly outstanding meal. Remarkable cheese platter and excellent blackened catfish dinner. Dining room is Upstairs and beautiful. Service was top ranked. Excellent wine list with reasonable prices. A memorable meal. I will be back.

My wife and I love good food and classy, atmospheric restaraunts. This place certainly wins all the awards for Best Value in our book. The food was superb on every one of the four or so times we have frequented this establishment. The service, on the same side of the coin, is world class and far and away the best in downtown Macon (second in the entire area only to Natalia's). On one occasion the maitre-de comp'ed our entire meal because our drinks came out a bit late and they had misplaced our gift certificate. If you are in downtown Macon, this is the place to go for fine dining.

Went for brunch this Sunday and have to say that it was one of the best meals that I have ever had. We had the French Toast and Fried Chicken Benedict, both of them were sublime. Please make it a point to try this place out for brunch, you will not regret it.

Of all the places where you'd find such an awesome, seasonal, locally-sourced, farm-to-table, true food restaurant, I have to admit that Macon, Georgia is not at the top of the list. And yet, here is where Dovetail lies, a restaurant that feels like it would fit in more with DC's Founding Farmers and Matchbox restaurants than it does in its own home turf! Dovetail offers a seasonally curated menu of southern-inspired foods, delicious specialty craft cocktails, and an all-around Gretchen-approved hipster feel. (I swear, every single waiter was wearing plaid + vests + plastic glasses.) We started with cocktails -- a Pimm's cup for me! -- and the deviled eggs, which had a bit of a vinegar-y zing and were absolutely delicious. Only $3! We also split the Dovetail cheese plate, which was super generously portioned with two big pieces each of a light bleu, hard goat, and Because you know me, I'm like THE WORST with menus and want everything, I ended up getting a bunch of items from the small plate menu instead of going with one of the equally appetizing-sounding entrees. First up were the ham fritters, which were more like delicious ham beignets than fritters! They were SUPER light and airy, with a thick balsamic drizzle on the plate... mmm. I also tried the Oysters Dovetail, which were similar to Oysters Rockefeller, with collard greens instead of spinach, and smothered in ooey, gooey cheese. OH so good. And lastly, I got a side of the mac and cheese, which came filled to the brim with pieces of ham, onions, and amaaaazing cheesiness. The waiter suggested I get a half-portion, and it was still HUGE! And for only $4! I can't even fathom how big a full-sized side of mac and cheese is, yeesh. My sister's vegetable plate was enormous and full of delicious treats like dill creamed corn (UHHmazing!), roasted rutebaga, sauteed spinach, and more, with a piece of cornbread on the side. And oh, how I wish I'd had room for dessert! Our server made it very, very hard to resist, but (as you can see), we had already eaten our fill. Server was great, by the way, super attentive and even though he was new, still very knowledgeable about the menu. Dovetail is a real gem in the Macon restaurant scene, and I hope it continues to do well! The prices are incredible compared to a similar meal that you could easily get in DC -- I honestly couldn't believe the prices for some things. I'm used to paying double, triple that around here! Next time I'm down in Macon to visit my sister, I will most definitely be insisting we return!

We had a group of ten everyone loved their plates. I personally recommend the blackened catfish with the blue cheese grits. Whatever you do make sure that you get something with the bacon remoulade on it. For dessert the crack pie with the salted caramel ice cream is perfection. All fresh farm to table ingredients make this place special.

The filet mignon was absolute amazing, will definitely be coming back. Service is top notch. The cracked pie is really great also. Overall I am very impressed with the entire experience.

As a Mercer student, I'm always looking for new places to eat. I cannot believe it took me, and my boyfriend, so long to come here, especially since I have eaten at The Rookery downstairs multiple times. Dovetail is absolutely incredible and Macon is incredibly lucky to have such an amazing place to eat. The service was fantastic. Our waiter, I believe his name was Evan, was attentive and funny, but didn't hover. He offered suggestions and answered our questions with a smile. The decor is a beautiful mix of southern bliss and eclectic hipster style. It maintains a casual feel while also feeling upscale. It truly is a beautiful place to eat. The food? I cannot express how delicious the food was. I have eaten at 100's of restaurants in and around Atlanta, some of which are some of the most legendary eateries in the entire southeast. Dovetail easily holds its own to these places. The fried chicken skin appetizer was perfectly salty and crispy. The jambalaya special had the perfect amount of spice, the rice was tender without being overlooked, the chicken thighs were juicy, the andouille sausage was spicy, and the fried crawfish was the perfect compliment. The filet mignon, cooked rare, was incredible. Juicy, perfectly seasoned, and melt in your mouth tender. The horseradish mashed potatoes were stunning. The broccolini added a perfect crunch and lightness to the dish. If we hadn't been so stuffed, dessert would have been in the cards and I'm sure it would have been fantastic. On top of all this, there is one major selling point: it is farm to table. The south is a bountiful agricultural powerhouse and it is fantastic to see a restaurant utilize such incredible ingredients. Please, if you're in Macon, stop at Dovetail. It won't disappoint!

First of all... excellent food. Were it just the food, 5 stars would be warranted. We had reservations for four and were seated in a back room near a table of Kenny Chesney fans in jeans, flannel shirts and requisite ball caps. (I, mistakenly, thought the downstairs Rookery was the casual joint.) We ordered appetizers of fried chicken skins and the cheese plate. We would recommend them exceedingly. The skins were a surprise, for sure. Our entrees were: salmon salad, shrimp and pasta, the salmon plate with roasted corn, and the filet mignon. All were cooked expertly and seasoned exceptionally well. This was really great food. The service really was disappointing. Our waiter was devoid of personality or helpful hints about the menu. He was rarely found and our drink glasses were often empty. Moreover, his slowness cost us additional drinks and desserts. We just couldn't wait on him any longer. We'll go back, but will do our best to avoid the waiter we had. He definitely cost his employer money and a better review.

Wonderful .... Maybe our favorite Yelp find ever .... Everything was wonderful--service, Food, drinks.... Put Up, Chicken Skins, Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, Scottish Salmon, Pork Chops, Crack Pie, and coffees.... Worth every struggle to find the place ---maps on the IPhone took us to a dead location .... Would drive the 12 hrs from Central Illinois to eat here again w/Sarah Massey and company keeping me company

They have OpenTable reservations available. It didn't look too busy when we went in so I was thinking our reservation wasn't necessary. However, toward the end of our brunch, the hostess was telling patrons without reservations that there was a 2 hour wait. So make a reservation before you go!

Very Awesome Bar Staff and the Environment takes you out of Macon! Ryan Smith is by far the most knowledgeable bartender and an awesome guy all around! The Owners of this place know what they are doing for sure!

I can only rave! Set upstairs in a historic building in Downtown Macon this place is a much needed option for New American in Middle Georgia. Great bar (if you can get a seat). We made reservations (Open Table) for 8:15 on a Friday and it was packed. House crafted cocktail menu includes a Cucumber-Jalapeño Margarita that is now on my favorites list. I dare you to try the fried chicken skins- you won't be disappointed. Hubs and I order family style- vegetarian plate (that creamed corn with dill!!!) quail risotto (hubs said its on the top of his risotto list- perfectly al dente, fantastically flavorful) , Georgia salad ( perfect green tomatoes making a party in your mouth) , Mac-n-cheese (a wonderful new take on the old, I was licking the bowl), and OH MY Grits!!!! They were fantastic, blended in a tomato base, give them a try! We finished with blueberry cobbler since it was in season (fresh farm blueberries in a pastry crust, like a melt in your mouth pound cake). Chef Brad Stevens changes the menu periodically according to what is in season and we can't wait to try the rest of the gems on the menu. We had a great conversation with Kevin Bryant the restaurants GM or as his business card says "Interactions Maestro". You will find him casually wandering the restaurant making sure all his guests are more than satisfied, be sure to say hi and tell him what you think, they love feedback. We left fat & sassy, and will be sure to return.

We went for a birthday celebration for my mom. I have to say that the service was excellent. I called and made reservation because we had an event to attend later that evening. The hostess told me what time would be good to arrive to have a pleasant dining experience. She was correct on timing. This restaurant is going to cost you some $$$ so be prepared for the expense. We started with the Deviled Eggs, Fried Chicken Skins, and the Cheese Plate. I would recommend the Cheese Plate and Deviled Eggs. Everyone in our party ordered different item and I would recommend them all. List is : Dovetail Burger, Steak and Lobster tail, Filet Mignon, Shrimp Purloo and Cracked Pie. Oh we did share our food so that we could get a sample. It was a wonderful evening.

I think I am the only person that is NOT impressed with this place. The food is OK, not fantastic, overpriced and of the three times I have gone with three servers they were all horrible. Every time I come here I feel as if they are making an exception for ME to dine with them. Their cocktails are about the only thing I enjoy but $14 bucks for one is a little pricey for Macon, GA. I cannot say the food is exceptional bc of the few items I have had here I was not impressed. My husband and I spent $90 on brunch and all I can say was it was so so. Save your time and money go to Grits Cafe in Forsyth, GA up the road.

The service is nice and it is in a decent location. It does not really have anything for vegans or vegetarians (besides a salad). Additionally, some visitors may not appreciate the appetizers of chicken skin and taxidermy. If you eat animals and are looking for unique southern cuisine then this may be your place. If on the other hand you are a vegetarian or vegan then I would not recommend this restaurant. The Rookery downstairs offers a vegan burger and sometimes vegan stew.

In our opinion this is most definitely our favorite dining spot in Macon! We enjoy supporting local farm-to-table dining experiences! The cocktails are superb with Bryan and Cierra willing to let you explore a variety of options of spirited spirits! We always like the cheese platter and we share several small plates of the seasonal fare. We love the hot Eppy bread and the spicy green tomatoes. Try the Scottish salmon and you will not be disappointed! According to my husband the burger and cut fries are superb!

This is a really great farm-to-table place - nicely upscale without being too frou-frou. We enjoyed everything we had. Naturally, it's a bit pricy, but it's good value for the money - beautifully presented, well-portioned, VERY tasty.

What a gem to find while in Macon for work. This restaurant got everything right while I was dining there and the bartender/ master of bourbon Ryan guided me along through a series of cocktails that complemented my meal. The quail risotto and pork chop are incredible!

Started here for appetizers - pork rinds chili dusted with various "put ups" on the top were delicious. Bread fresh and shaped like large ginger roots. Our waitress, Sierra, was a tender soul, my perception, who was attentive and helpful especially knowing we were just having apps. Talked of her favorite apartment in NY.

Overall not impressed. The whole atmosphere and theme tries too hard at too much expense to the patron. The wait staff is all dressed like hipsters who have watched too much "O'Brother, Where Art Thou." Additionally, they all adorn the same haircut. With such a strict dress code for the wait staff, I assumed I wouldn't have to wait 10 minutes for the "mixologist" (their word not mine) to make my two ingredient cocktail. The food was overpriced (e.g., the "crab tower" was three "want ons" (tortilla chips) with canned crab for $9. Awesome!). The table was wobbly. I will say this. The hamburger is on par with the ones made at The Rookery downstairs, if not better (tasting and for you). Also, the Bacon Marmalade is delicious, as well.

Located on the 2nd floor of an old-ish building in downtown Macon, Dovetail is a major FIND for anyone who appreciates well-designed ambiance, excellent service and culinary creativity. Our food was fresh, plated artfully, seasoned well and was served verrrrrry promptly. Here's what we ordered: Drinks - 2007 Lancaster Estate Cabernet (priced VERY fairly and phanntasmicly delish) and a local IPA called White Hops (served ICE cold) Appetizers - Deviled Eggs (2 orders!), Marinated Eggplant and Garden Salad with Chicken Skin (yum) Croutons Dinners - Vegetable Plate (chef's fresh selections), Burger (tall, moist and delish) and Tomahawk Pork Chop (roasted corn!) Desserts - Strawberry Shortcake and Chocolate Chess Pie Soooooo.....if you're in the neighborhood and arent afraid of going into a blissful food coma, dine upstairs at Dovetail :-) p.s. Valet Parking is available in the alley behind Dovetail!

Were there for lunch during the festival. Food was great. Service on the other hand was not so hot. Took a long time to get our drinks. Waiter was confused when I asked for Sky and tonic, didn't know if they had Sky so I told him if not, then 3 olives. He delivered my vodka and tonic with 3 olives in the drink. Took a while for the food to come too. Good news is that we were not in a hurry and the food was worth it! Looked at the diner menu and it looked great. Massive wine list.

Get there a little early to allow time to find a decent parking spot. I had to make a couple laps round the block to get a spot fairly close. The less time you spend walking Downtown Macon GA the better. Nothing says romantic night out like avoiding eye contact with the "locals" loitering in the street. This place is above the Rookery. I was pleasantly surprised when seated, it's cozy and mostly quiet compared to the cacophony that is the Rookery downstairs. There is giant deer head above the bar and I like that look. Reminds me I am here to consume some sort of delicious animal that was organically raised on the farm. Good wine and fancy beer list. I recommend trying out a fancy beer. I got the terrapin Wake n Bake. An imperial stout for folks who like their beer like their women, thick and dark! Farm to table is what this place is all about. We got the Put up's, Thats fancy for bread with spreads. I recommend this plate. I don't recommend the small tiny weird shaped piece of bread that they serve with it. Four jars of Put ups and this pathetic "wheat" shaped piece of bread. Ain't nobody got time for DAT! We had to ask for two more stalks of bread and I overheard tables around me doing the same. My bone-in strip steak was perfectly cooked and it was served with some the best Polenta (fancy grits) I have had in a while. I recommend it. I don't recommend the $42 price of that plate. Seriously, at that price I expect the meat to be "Prime" and at least served by a lady named Ruth Chris.

Dovetail is a FAB farm-to-table supper spot in downtown Macon. I've never had anything there that I didn't really, really like. The comfortable chic ambiance makes it a great locale to dine with fun friends. Steak lovers, try 'The Commodore.' I think it's the best steak in town. For a good starter, order the Put-Ups or the Farmhouse Salad. Order anything that comes with their Bacon Marmalade and thank me later.

The only reason I didn't give it five stars was the slow start to service when we were seated. Made reservation thru Yelp for 8 pm because the app said that 7 or 7:30 weren't available. We arrived early anyway and were seated promptly. Once service got going, everything was superb. Don't miss their cheese plate appetizer with bacon, ?, yes, BACON! marmalade. My dining partner and I laughed at the small serving size of a very artistic salad, but it really was quite enough and tres tasty (and it left room for cracked pie!). Duck breast small plate was world class, and cracked pie is "slap your grandma" DELICIOUS! I will definitely return. KUDOS to chefs!

To celebrate a friend's upcoming marriage and the birth of our first baby, my husband and I made reservations for Sunday brunch. We've been patrons of The Rookery for several years but hadn't ever taken the short trip upstairs to Dovetail. My, my. First, the atmosphere is upscale and feels very non-Georgian. Waitstaff was professional and quick with answers to our cuisine questions. The brunch menu was ample and offered different meat and non-meat choices. Everyone at the table was happy with his or her choice and sorry we could not eat even more as the portions were hearty. Prices were very reasonable. For four people, including a basket of biscuits and sausage gravy, four entrees, and three glasses of juice our tickets was $69 including the tip. We love great food and atmosphere and have eaten all over the world and must admit that Dovetail was a great experience. We'll be back - especially when entertaining family from out of town.

Great food, blah staff. We waited FOREVER! They were not packed. They just couldnt seem to get it together. We were given free (or what appeared to be a free, we apologize) basket of bread for the wait. They never quite told us why there was such a wait. We got the wrong food on two occasions. They DID manage to come by asking to refill our wine, several times. Nice ambiance, nice food...poor service. I was hoping it was their first week of opening. I even asked this in a kind way on the way out in a manner like, "thank you for dinner, how long have you guys been here?" ummmm, I was hoping they had said 4 days -- bc I went on a Friday night. Nope! They need to regroup and maybe do a test run. The staff wasn't knowledgeable, the food was slow to come out, appetizers came out 5 mins before the food, etc... Oh and we had to GET UP to go ask could we have our check...AND we had to take it to them once we were done....although my girlfriends and I were enjoying each other's company we really didnt' want to sit for 30 mins with the check.

My wife and I tried Dovetail for the first time this weekend. We arrived at the time of our reservation and were seated right away, even on a busy night. When I made the reservations days earlier, I mentioned that we'd be going to a concert that night in town and hoped we'd be able to eat in time and still make it to the show. When our waitress greeted us at the table, she brought up the fact that she realized we had a concert to make and that she would make sure we were taken care of. My wife and I were able to enjoy our entire dining experience without ever feeling rushed. I credit this to our wonderful waitress, who was attentive, courteous, unpretentious, and very knowledgeable about the menu. Everything from the cocktails and wine we had before dinner, to the appetizers, the entrees, and the dessert was incredible. Hands down, the best meal you'll have in Macon. I certainly look forward to coming back soon.

We had a bad experience, based on a service error, and my friend's escalation of the situation. The memory is disturbing. We arrived and were seated. We ordered drinks. We ordered food. Next thing we know the manager, not the waiter, is delivering our food to the table next to us. We were thinking, what the heck! Our food is delivered to the table next to us that arrived after us?!? Could they have ordered the exact same food as us? Next, the manager comes by and asks if we have a problem. After some discussion he apologizes for delivering our food to the wrong table. Now our waiter is no longer working for us, and the manager is serving us. Eventually, I got my jambalaya, but there was less than a tablespoon of andouille sausage in it. It was shrimp on top of a bed of rice, but it wasn't jambalaya. The manager gave us our food and drinks on the house, including dessert, but my memory of the experience is bad, bad, bad. The problems far outweighed the level of the food. I'll admit that one of our party has very high standards for restaurant performance, and that he was the most upset by what happened. But it effects us all when such basic deficiencies occur. I'm not sure I can trust them to deliver what is ordered, to the right table, in the right condition. And the food was not worth the price that was on the menu.
Food was pretty good.......staff has no charisma....blaugh at best...

My wife and I went here for our anniversary. Great service! We had the Carpetbagger which was a porterhouse steak for two topped with potatoes and fried oysters in a sauce. The oysters were fried perfectly, and they were actually better than the steak. They also have a great drink selection.

Dovetail truly offers the best dining experience in Macon. Since its opening, the dishes have consistently been delicious. Their chefs are constantly updating the menu to keep things fresh, and the drink menu is inventive and never disappoints. We recommend... well, basically everything. You really can't go wrong. We love the chefs' environmental consciousness in choosing locally raised ingredients. The wait staff is also a pleasure to done with and very knowledgable about the menu.

It's good. It's not 5 stars, but it is good. Very overpriced! I'm still trying to figure out how to rate the service: it was somewhere between hovering and aloof. Great place to go for decent food and good drinks.

So excited for Macon's own Farm-to-Table! Great flight menu and loved the appetizer sample a.k.a. Put-Ups. The pimento cheese and bacon jam were the best! Would be a great place for an adult summer night out. We went shortly after it opened and the staff needed some polishing - we were sat at the table and for over 10 minutes before being asked if we would like something to drink. Outside of that, the staff was very professional and informed. So glad for Dovetail to be in Macon!

Great atmosphere. Great cocktails. Tasty appetizers. Went for drinks and a light snack. Can't wait to try dinner. The boiled peanuts were really good and that is from a boiled peanut hater. The pork skins were good too and the deviled eggs were spectacular.

Had reservation to eat at dovetail one night at 5:30 arrived a little early to enjoy a bottle of wine before dinner when we were being told they were not ready for guest, which would have been fine but when still speaking to a woman who worked there we heard a man inside the dining are yell "close the door" to the lady speaking to us! It was so rude that we decided to go eat elsewhere. Very disappointed in the way they are conducting business and how they are treating their staff and customers!

A completely enjoyable experience. Fantastic meal and excellent service. We started with the duck/blueberry salad. not a combo i initially would have thought would go well together but it the flavors melded very well. My wife and I shared the ribeye, served by the maitre'd at the table--light blackening, onions and Stilton blue cheese--was perfectly cooked. Fig tart and balsamic chocolate cake to wind up the night. Think I need to head back just for the whiskies and bourbons....

We had Sunday brunch at the Dovetail last weekend. I can't say enough about this wonderful restaurant! The decor is pretty and current. Our waitress, Sierra, went out of her way to explain the menu and suggest wonderful items. At her recommendation, we started with a basket of the bomb.com biscuits. They are served with bacon-bourbon-butter, peach jam and honey! I know right?! The special that day was my all-time-fave, shrimp and grits. It was the best I've ever had! I hope they will add it to the menu as a regular item! The cheese grits were dreamy, shrimp-seasoned and cooked perfectly, crawfish sauce- just right and the poached egg on top sealed the deal. Heavenly! All washed down with a yummy Bloody Mary. I hope to plan another trip to Macon soon for a repeat!

By far, the best restaurant we have been to in our 3 days so far in Macon. The food was excellent! And the service was outstanding! We had made reservations so were seated immediately. It was only about a minute before our server appeared. He brought us glasses of water and then took our drink orders immediately, and even took care to describe the different old fashioned / prohibition era drinks for us. We ordered different drinks and they ALL were delicious! Neither of us drink whiskey but absolutely loved the drinks! Dinner can be a little pricey, but, it is a $$$$ category restaurant afterall. The thing to remember is, you get what you pay for! We ordered the Georgia red onion salad as an appetizer and we devoured it! For our main course, we ordered the bone-in rib eye (26 oz). That's a lot of meat! As an optional topping, we ordered the commodore, which features fingerling potatoes, fois gras (now illegal in California so we definitively had to have that!) and onions and mushrooms. It was $56 for the 26 oz steak, but, it can literally feed 4 people! We only ate half the steak, and took the took the other half home. One of the best parts of having dinner here is tableside service. Our steak was carved for us at tableside...for free by the maitre'd! We finished the night off with a peach of a hand cocktail and took a dessert order to go: whiskey ice cream with caramel and a blondie cookie...simple but so delicious! Our server, Timothy, after giving us our check and noticing us leave our table, even STOOD by the stairwell to say goodbye to us as we left. I have NEVER been to a restaurant that has this level of service! They are still serving you after you've finished your dinner and are leaving the restaurant. Definitely is a great place for a date, special occasion' or just to splurge! The wine list, however, is mostly by the bottle. There is probably only one selection per category that is available by glass. I'm guessing it is probably due to lack of demand for by-the-glass wine, but plan on spending more than a pretty penny if you want to have wine with dinner.

Absolutely fantastic. By far the best restaurant in Macon. Great food, impeccable service, and great cocktails. Did I mention the cocktails? Great cocktails!

Met some friends for dinner one weeknight here recently for the first time. Loved the ambiance and decor but found some of the staff to be a bit unfriendly and pretentious - let's remember this is Macon, GA and not a 5 star establishment in NYC. Food was good but just nothing I would rave over - my salad was decent as were the shrimp but just not that wonderful to justify the price and portion size to me honestly.

Who would think in Macon. What a great spot... Laney the bartender is totally hip, friendly and has chosen some great spirits to stock her bar. Best place in Middle Georgia. Thank goodness something besides Bonefish!

What an amazing addition to the Macon dining scene. The menu is diverse and everything we tried was truly outstanding. Service was top notch. We will definitely come here again. This one you don't want to miss!

Easily the most interesting and flavorful restaurant in Macon. Rotating menu featuring exotic items with a distinctive Southern flair. First rate staff and owners in a hipster setting. A definite must-try in Macon.

Celebrated 20th anniversary at Dovetail. Ham fritters, BBQ Cornish hen and apple caramel bread pudding were my choices. All were absolutely delicious. Service is impeccable every time. Executive Chef Doug Sanneman adds his special touch to every dish. Never disappoints!

We've been twice for brunch, once with a group of 6 and again just as a couple - both were wonderful experiences! The food was delicious, bloody marys were spicy and our server - Caroline - was a doll! Reservations are easily made on opentable. The prices for brunch are about the same as the Rookery downstairs but the service and experience are very 'upstairs'.

(5)Dan W.

(5)Jason S.
(5)Riley W.
The filet mignon was absolute amazing, will definitely be coming back. Service is top notch. The cracked pie is really great also. Overall I am very impressed with the entire experience.
(5)Clare B.
(5)Kevin T.

Awesome, got taken here to eat by a friend cant wait to go back

Lunch menu is (in my opinion) better than dinner...pork sandwich, duck breast reuben, they are all fantastic! Get the vegetable plate for dinner!
(4)Jessica H.
They have OpenTable reservations available. It didn't look too busy when we went in so I was thinking our reservation wasn't necessary. However, toward the end of our brunch, the hostess was telling patrons without reservations that there was a 2 hour wait. So make a reservation before you go!
(4)Bucky H.
Very Awesome Bar Staff and the Environment takes you out of Macon! Ryan Smith is by far the most knowledgeable bartender and an awesome guy all around! The Owners of this place know what they are doing for sure!
(5)Kisha H.

(4)Amy H.
(2)Alisha M.
(2)Cami H.
(5)Emily V.
Love this place! Staff is always amazing, food is delicious, and the bar has great options. Dovetail reminds me of home, a much larger city than any in middle GA.
(5)Dana S.
This is a really great farm-to-table place - nicely upscale without being too frou-frou. We enjoyed everything we had. Naturally, it's a bit pricy, but it's good value for the money - beautifully presented, well-portioned, VERY tasty.
(5)Ryan S.
What a gem to find while in Macon for work. This restaurant got everything right while I was dining there and the bartender/ master of bourbon Ryan guided me along through a series of cocktails that complemented my meal. The quail risotto and pork chop are incredible!
(5)Philip M.
(5)Steven J.

(5)Pat Z.
(4)T. M.

Amazing food! Went here for my wife's birthday. The service was great and the food was even better. Will definitely be coming back for some deviled eggs and blackened catfish.

Wonderful find in Downtown Macon! Fresh flavors, great cocktails and delicious combinations. Chef knows what he is doing. Deviled eggs, vegetable plate and "crack Pie" are winners! Wait staff were excellent.

Excellent service, excellent food. Cooked to perfection! The cheese plate has a marvelous selection.

While I did not eat at dove tail I did have a drink served by some pretentious hipsters.

Food was great. Unique atmosphere. Some of the wait staff should learn to smile a bit and laugh at my corn pone jokes. Quick service. Good drinks. I'll be back.

WOW! Dovetail rivals the best in the Southeast. You are sure to see them featured in G&G and Southern Living soon. Simply perfect. Cheese plate, Grilled Duck breast, and quail risotto. We didn't even have room for an entrée but the blackened catfish would have been the choice. The food was just phenomenal along with wine and pre-dinner drinks. Now to the service. Timothy is one of the best servers I've ever had. Was inviting and knowledgeable and made us feel like the only two in the dining room. If you request him you will not forget it. Finally, as an Atlanta resident with access to many great restaurants I can say Dovetail would be at the top of the list in Atlanta. I saw some comments in some online reviews commenting on the prices. Enjoy it while it lasts Macon. We'll drive down anytime to enjoy a gem that is very reasonable and soon to be a top pick in the Southeast restaurant scene.

Great food! Great drinks and service. Will definitely come again. You get what you pay for.
