Oh my God! This little ice cream and coffee shop has the best BBQ in town! We had the pull pork and brisket. They were both flavorful and juicy. The BBQ sauce was also great! It does not have a regular restaurant setting. But it could be a nice place to go on a late Sunday morning yo have coffee and breakfast, hang out and read a nice book, have some ice cream on the way out and take a pond of BBQ to go for a late afternoon lunch. YUM-MMMMMY!

I've visited Allen's several times, including twice in the past three days. There is something about spring weather that drives me to ice cream shoppes and Allen's is a gem. Nestled in downtown Windermere, it offers scenery that comes closer to imitating the New England of my youth than any other location I know in Central Florida. Allen's offers ice cream, frozen yogurt, sandwiches, coffees and a few other treats. I tend to be a purist and stick with the ice cream. Admittedly, I get the low fat, no sugar added ice cream whenever possible, and that is not really all that purist of me, but I make my own rules. This past Saturday, I had my puppy in tow so I could not enter Allen's to place my order. Not a problem. Allen's has a window that opens to the street to allow for easy ordering. Every ice cream shop should have a window that opens to the street! I ordered a double scoop of NSA mocha almond fudge in a waffle cone. It was creamy and full of nuts--positively heavenly. I savored it as I walked about the downtown area. Points to Allen's for serving cones in a sheath that catches melting ice cream and keeps the hands clean! I returned today as part of a celebratory lunch with my wife. Today is our 18th anniversary so ice cream was in order (as was our very tasty lunch at Yellow Dog Eats beforehand!). I ordered the same ice cream that I had on Saturday. The ice cream was just as wonderful but the cone was a tad stale. It did not really detract too much from my experience but it did contribute to the loss of a star from this review. At the same time, when I returned for an extra scoop (my wife eats slowly and I eat quickly so I had to do something while I waited for her!), Allen's cut the price on my extra scoop because of the inconvenience of a stale cone. Points to Allen's (and any establishment) that wants feedback and acts on it! My wife had a low-fat coffee chip frozen yogurt and loved it. She has informed me that we will be back! If you happen to be in Windermere, Allen's is a wonderful place for a treat and a break. Keep in mind that if you are in Windermere, speeders are hunted down and ticketed without mercy, so stay below the speed limit!

The ice cream was pretty good.

I stopped by this Allen's to pick up some BBQ on my way to a friend's house to watch college football. I knew that I was in trouble when I saw him microwaving the BBQ. No good BBQ should ever be microwaved. In fact, there are very few food items that should be microwaved. I know that my standards are pretty high when it comes to BBQ because I use Four Rivers as my comparison. If you've read any of my Four Rivers reviews, you know what I think of them (best in Orlando!). The BBQ at Allen's can't compare to a 'real' BBQ restaurant although that is probably an unfair comparison. I would say it is comparable to the prepackaged bbq you buy at Publix. It was okay, but nothing amazing. I did try the ice cream while I was waiting and it was very good. Service was friendly. Overall, I think this place is great for the ice cream, but I'd go elsewhere if you really want good BBQ.

Enjoyed Memorial Day lunch today at Allen's. We were brought by a friend that works nearby. Lovely small town with free parking, and apparently one paved street? Two nice young ladies did their best to deal with the rather busy crowd (e.g., one said, "shouldn't they be out drinking beer today?"). BBQ was good! I had the chicken sandwich platter, and two guests had pork. For ~10$, platter included soda (or fresh ice tea), bag of chips, and half cup each of slaw and baked beans. For dessert ($4), I had small coffee and fresh dish of no-sugar added coffee fudge ice cream. I found the food to be adequate, service charming, though a bit disorganized with the traffic, and cuisine mid-70's "informal" (lounge chairs, etc.). I would have no problem going back!!

So, it was too late fo my favorite coffee shop in the area--Penguin's and I really wanted a great vanilla latte and some sort of baked good. So on to the creamery I go. . . The word creamery should have alerted me that this place sells ice cream. Ice cream is fine, however that's not what I was looking for tonight. I ended up getting my latte and skipped the donuts and apple fritters, as those were the only other options for goodies at the time. The latte is decent and it did its job. The location and vibe of this place is really something different to experience. To me it felt like someone decided to throw an ice cream party in their living room and everyone decided to bring the kids. The outside seating area is very nice and cozy with lots of street to just walk around. Of course everything all depends on what you're looking for. This seems like a great "mommie and me" spot, or a teenage hang out, or even a great stop after a date. Very family oriented.

I asked for a banana split and they charged my card $5.79 for the banana split. Once the lady went to make it, she realized that they were out of bananas. I asked for a refund since they couldn't deliver a banana split and they refused to refund the card or give me money back. Very odd experience.

ohhhhh, Allen's. How I wish I could visit you every day. Was in town visiting family, and was brought to Allen's for a late-morning snack. I tried about 5 different flavors of ice cream because I couldn't make up my mind. Whoops. I ended up opting for a milkshake made with the coffee-based ice cream....and I added a shot of espresso to it. The ice cream flavors are super interesting and unique - they have lots of different cake-related flavors (red velvet...mmm), and lots of fun candy-filled flavors. The espresso was carmel flavored, smooth, and delicious. The girl working was very friendly and fun. Allen's is like a a blast from the past - a small, family owned establishment with hand-written signs, great customer service, and fun people. The next time I am in town, i will probably try to go every single day.

Great hidden gem in downtown Windermere. Great ice cream. They even have a BBQ menu. Get the apple fritter, it's the size of your face and delicious!!!

The ice cream is great but a shot of espresso does not mean fill the bottom of a paper cup with black coffee.

Decent cup of coffee! Ordered a root beer float for a friend and they were overall very unimpressed. Still an okay place to stop if you're in the area. Employees are usually very sweet!

I heard about this place and someone told me it was all home-made ice cream which I learned it wasn't. I wanted a banana split but the girl told they didn't have any more bananas. She made me what she thought would have been a good replacement. A for effort, but I can't say I would come again. Oh, but my friend that came with me enjoyed whatever that blue colored ice cream.

Fan-frickentastic. Took the wife and kids for an afternoon treat and was very impressed. Great coffee house / ice cream parlor. Even their donuts are top notch. The atmosphere is great with nice colorful furniture and decor (see pictures) and outdoor seating. This is one of my new favorite spots.

I love this place. The chocolate peanut butter ice cream is amazing. I also love the cookie dough. My wife loves their 'butterscotch bomb' (or something like that) when it's available.

Yum even more than ice cream. Great coffee drinks for pick me up in the morning- and they have soy milk for coffee for those that don't do dairy. I'm dairy free- but I know the ice cream must be amazing, it is always busy after school there and on the weekends. It's rare to find family owned amazing ice-cream stores like this anymore. Def worth the trip to Downtown Windermere to try out...

Well, this place isn't all that great, but it isn't horrible. The icecream definitely isn't homemade, it's very watery in fact, and melts fast. Homemade icecreams are usually thicker and creamier. Anyway, the waffle bowl was pretty good, not the best in the business, but it's the reason why they got that extra star! I wouldn't drive out of my way to return here.

Great little hole in the wall ice cream place...little one is always happy to see her cotton candy and bubble gum ice creams..soft serve is great ...money stays local and not to the overpriced yogurt or cold stone places ..
