Cajun food in St. Pete! Heck yes! I have been to Ricky P's twice, once for their awesome Jazzy Brunch on Sundays and today for my mom's Birthday lunch. The building is absolutely beautiful and reminiscent of French Quarter architecture in New Orleans. A great little band plays by the upstairs balcony during their Jazzy Brunch while you dine on unique items from the small brunch menu like the crab cake omelette! On our second visit we tried the crab cakes appetizer (fabulously full of crab!) and the Cajun corn and crab bisque. It was spicy and delicious! The lovely waitress brought my mom a red velvet cupcake with a candle for her Birthday to make it a perfect lunch! I love Ricky P's! I am looking forward to trying their Po' Boys on my next visit!

I landed here with a friend while wandering around downtown St Pete and boy I'm glad I did. The inside is very nicely done but we sat outside so we could hear the live music. She was a little scared of spicy food so she got the shrimp etouffee and it was amazing. I had a combo plate with beans and rice (they have vegetarian beans and rice if you're interested . . I wasn't) and a crab cake. Everything was delicious and the service was attentive but not overly so. Normally this would be a 5 star experience but . . . some of the rice in my beans and rice had become dried out and hard hard to the point of making the rice almost inedible. The rice in my friends shrimp was just fine but I found myself having to pick around my inedible rice. I'll be back fix the rice and it'll be 5 stars.

This place is awesome, the onion rings are the best we've ever had. Great food. Recommended!

Had dinner with my son here early Saturday evening. First, lets talk about service....excellent, friendly and spot on. Noticed the owner actively manages the restaurant, excellent. The place has a authentic, downtown New Orleans "oil man's power lunch" feel, similar to the old Kolb's Restaurant, that has been closed for years, but was a fantastic New Orleans venue. We had Jambalaya, one bowl, one cup. Cup was a big portion, bowl was enough for two. Good flavor, nice amount of chicken and sausage, but a bit light on the spices - still very good. Also ordered Oysters Rockefeller - you get 5, they were big, and the presentation was good. I would have liked to have had them cooked a bit more, with more of a broiled crust as the topping. I love raw oysters, but I think this recipe should come out piping hot, and the oyster part should be "done." Overall, the food was good, but it could have been great with lagniappe.

I've been going to the Ricky P's Po Boy Shop on 4th street for years but had never tried the Orleans Bistro. Now that the Po Boy Shop had closed, I decided that it was time to try it here. I made a good decision! After trying Ricky P's Orleans Bistro about two months ago, I've already been back twice. For the two times I came for lunch, I got the chicken salad sandwich. The taste of the chicken salad is very flavorful in a good way. The size of the sandwich is huge, not necessarily in terms of the amount of chicken salad in the sandwich, but in the entire sandwich's portion, which you could easily make two meals out of it. Contrary to many of the other reviews, I thought the ratio of chicken salad to bread was good. The onion rings appetizer is also very good, they also come in a large portion and could easily be shared. The onion rings have a unique, flavorful coating - I do recommend though that you ask for the onion rings to be extra crispy! The fries here are good as well, they have good seasoning. The other time I came here, we came for brunch. The brunch did not disappoint! The only menu available during brunch is a special brunch menu which, as of writing this review, is not available on the Ricky P's website. For my meal, I have the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, which was very good, and like with all the other sandwiches here, the it's pretty big. During brunch they also have a complementary fresh fruit and veggies table. For brunch I also indulged in the beignets, which were very good and can easily be shared. Everything I've had here so far is highly recommended, so I encourage you to try this place, they have a pretty big menu so you're bound to find something that you like.

This place is GREAT!! First of all, the restaurant itself is very pretty and CLEAN. (The condition of the bathroom says a lot about a restaurant in my opinion.) The food was D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S, the drink specials were superb (both in taste and price), the bartendar (Melanie) was very nice/friendly, and the bar conversation was good (i.e., no weird/disgruntled people sitting at the bar, everyone was sociable). Will most definitely be coming back often and I suggest you visit too!

Jumbalaya was sausage and chicken only. Very dry as in warmed over from frozen. If they can't do jumbalaya, what can they do?

Our friends suggested we meet here for dinner. They had dined here when they first opened couple of years ago and said the food and service were amazing. I had looked at the menu online before going and was excited with all the offerings, not sure what I was going to order as there were so many tasty items. We unfortunately walked away very disappointed. Service was mediocre - server did not check back after the food was brought to our table until we were almost finished. After a while, the food all started tasting the same. I had crab cake, jambalaya, and creole potato salad. My partner had the same but with what was supposed to be coleslaw (ever seen brown coleslaw?). Stuffed mushroom appetizer covered with crab (my partner had pieces of shell in his). Again, so disappointed. Won't be back.

I'm going to give this an additional half star for the Bread Pudding finish. Yesterday Wifey and I had occasion to visit Ricky P's Orleans Bistro. We've eaten here a couple of times before, as well as the sandwich shop location up 4th Street, but this is my first review. I have to agree with some of my Yelp contemporaries about the "authenticity" of the food here, but I've been to N'awlins many times and have a Po' Boy made just about every way you can imaging and on every menu it's call "authentic." That said, the place is located in what used to be a gas station many, many years ago, Burn's Thunder Alley when I was much younger, and most recently Savannah's before Ricky moved in. One of the first things that hits me is the name "bistro," which to me is usually synonymous with "fancier," but in this instance I think it's used for it's French connection rather then intonation of fancy. Ricky goes for the red Coca-Cola cups that could've been purchased second hand from any 1980's Pizza Hut, thus equaling "not fancy." There were decent, if non-matching, pint glasses for the bottled Abita beers that Wifey and I ordered. My wife had Ricky's side salad that she really enjoyed. It was pretty much chopped Romaine topped with tomatoes, cukes, and red onions she pushed to the side. She especially enjoyed the dressing that she called a "creamy balsamic Dijon." We both ordered the Crab Cake dinner, but she opted for the Dirty Rice while I went with the Jambalya, Cajun coleslaw, Tomato Salad sides. We both agreed that the Crab Cakes were a DELICIOUS rendition of New Orleans-style Crab Cake! It was big, crabby, lots of flavor but not drowned in Old Bay, and had a great consistency that wasn't overstuffed with bread crumbs to puff it up - something I find all too often outside of Maryland and New Orleans. The Dill Sauce accompaniment was perfect. The Cajun coleslaw had a nice taste and consistency, but favored a brownish hue that wasn't very eye appealing. I'm not sure that I know what "Cajun" coleslaw is, so I can't comment on whether it's supposed to be that color or not, I just found it sort of... meh. My picture herein is from a couple of pounds ago and Uncle B can EAT when something is good, but the single, delicious Crab Cake was more than either of us could eat - star! The two rice dishes varied greatly as you would expect. The Dirty Rice was tasty, but sort of dry. The Jambalaya on the other had a good taste, but had just a bit too much of a soggy ketchup-tasting finish to it to have me rate it as a favorite item. The Tomato Salad side item also didn't wow me, because honestly, it's Iceberg lettuce pieces topped with two sliced tomatoes, a generous helping of feta cheese, some oil and a balsamic glaze. As other Yelpers have indicated, the Bread Pudding is spectacular. I am a BP aficionado and, dang it, I knows Bread Puddin'. This one is big enough for two, in fact, wifey and I didn't finish it, which is probably a criminal act in West-Central Florida. The rum sauce was as plentiful as it was rich and flavorful, but didn't overwhelm the consistency of the dish which is a huge thumbs up. This rating is indicative of me coming back to Ricky P's and giving it another shot at more stars. I think the prices were reasonable and par with a "bistro" definition of being moderately priced fare. The Crab Cake and Bread Pudding alone earn the stars here, well that and a couple of tasty Abita's. So, if you're in the mood for New Orleans, I think Ricky P will get you close enough to satisfy the craving if not earning itself the right to pack up and move to Rue Bourbon.

I just ate here for the second time in the food is still really good. It definitely has a great New Orleans style of taste.

I love authentic Cajun cooking. I love authentic Cajun drinking. I eat it and I cook it. Ricky P's is not authentic. Its not bad. But it isn't right in critical ways. For instance, the Muffuletta, a staple of New Orleans eatin, comes on some sort of french bread. The two most critical parts of a Muffuletta are the olive salad and the MUFFuLETTA loaf! Yes the bread is called Muffuletta bread. That is where the name came from. So how do you not use a muffuletta loaf of bread? That is like making a cuban sandwich on rye bread! All that I could think of while eating this is that the Central Grocer (where it was invented) would be laughing. And then New Orleans is famous for three drinks: the Sazerac, the Hurricane, and the Hand Grenade. Ricky P's only makes a Sazerac and they DO IT WRONG! Nevermind that Bourbon Street is practically synonymous with a Pat O'Brian's Hurricane, New Orleans is responsible for America's FIRST cocktail. The Sazerac is also the Official Cocktail of New Orleans. To make a Sazerac chill and old fashioned glass, then muddle together in another glass a sugar cube and Peychaud Bitters before adding rye whiskey. You then empty the other glass and coat it in absinthe before pouring the whiskey mixture into the glass. Ricky P's doesn't use absinthe, rye whiskey, or Peychaud whiskey. I know that I am a bit picky on this but when you aim to replicate a place's cuisine it is forgivable to put your own spin on it. But it is not forgivable to remove the elements that made the cuisine what it is. I would like to try more but just don't have the heart. Truly the best that I can say as to authenticity is that the decor is great and they were playing the Preservation Hall Jazz Band over the speakers. I actually had the CD that they were playing. However, the food is decent. It just isn't real based on my experience. It isn't real in the same way that getting a Philly Cheese Steak with mayonnaise or without cheese whiz isn't real. Or good luck getting real New York Pizza. But Ricky P's doesn't seem to be trying that hard.

Went here the other day. I drove past it several times and always caught my eye. I waited and waited to be seated . The service was absolutely terrible. BUT the food was amazing! I will go back and give the service another chance. The gumbo was awesome and so was the crab cakes!

We had passed this place a few times, and decided to try it out for a late Saturday lunch. The food and service was very good! We couldn't decide between the seafood or chicken and andouille gumbo, so we got both. Our table of 4 decided the seafood gumbo was the winner, but both were good. I split the Louisiana seafood dinner with my Mom, and it was still a lot of food. It was a fried seafood platter: 1 crabcake, 1 large catfish filet, and a handful each of shrimp and oysters. All the seafood was very crisp, not too greasy. The breading was light and flavorful. The others at our table ordered shrimp etouffee and a po-boy, both also were good. We're planning to come back and try the long list of appetizers and entrees. It's a big menu! One thing I wished was for them to offer local St. Pete beers, but they did have Abita brewing on the drink menu.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place, as we certainly don't make the drive over into St. Petersburg to eat here enough! A CL Deal lead us to Ricky P's for the first time and has pulled us back 3-4 more times since. It is really hard to beat. First off, you can't find this style of food just anywhere in the area. Add in the great service we have received each time, delicious food, and what I consider very good prices...and it's a complete winner. They have a special each day for lunch and dinner and I have usually taken them on it with great results. The Crawfish Monica pasta dish was outstanding. The Corn Crab Bisque...goodness, SO good and my first time trying that particular dish. The random texture of a corn kernel was odd at first, but it grew on me quickly...the flavors were just delicious. I've also had their flagship menu item, the shrimp po' boy to great success. One nice feature is the live background music they feature in the evenings for dinner. It's not loud and in your face where you can't converse, but rather up on the 2nd story and in the corner...a great addition I hope they keep. Strange as it may sound, their Diet Coke was very good. I know, I know...crazy, right? Well, if you drink Diet Coke more than you should like myself then you probably have occasionally had that very crisp Diet Coke taste that made you think "hmm, this is better than most." No? Oh well, I think it is either their employees or the Coca-Cola employees cleaning the syrup/carbonation lines. Tip: I haven't had any drinks at Ricky P's, but you can make any drink a double for $1. Come on.

First time there for brunch. We have been trying to go for a while. Thank goodness they sent a reminder on Facebook yesterday. It was fantastic. I had the eggs Benedict specialty...not the classic. It is on crab cakes instead of muffins. OMG, I couldn't stop eating. And the cheesy grits were fantastic too. There were three others with us who all loved their meals also. My drink, vodka with I sweet tea and lemonade was so good I had two. I really suggest going here for brunch. We love brunch and will be back soon. I must point out the guests we invited to join us are very picky and were as impressed with the food as we were. Oh, I don't remember her name (we were outside 1/4/15) but our server was very attentive and super nice. Thanks Ricky P's for making my only day off this week fantastic....now back to cleaning and laundry to work off my full happy belly. The others went home to nap. Hee hee Happy New Year...
Found this place on yelp, I had shrimp poboy and crab shrimp gumbo in sweet tea and bread pudding everything was very good I will return. The food is freshly prepared and the customer service was very hospitable. Very good gumbo

This is one of our favorite restaurants in the Bay Area, and a "must" for any visit to St Pete. We are homesick Louisiana people, and Ricky Ps provides a cure. Their shrimp Po-boys feature perfectly fried shrimp with the best French bread we've had outside if New Orleans (and, well, France!) Dressed perfectly with the traditional mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle. The chicken and andouille gumbo is another fave, perfectly seasoned but not spicy. We also love the Crawfish Monica Special pasta, which will make you feel like you're at Jazz Fest. It's all really good, but these are our faves. They carry Abita beer products which made us weep with joy (Andygator!!!) Service is quick and friendly, and prices are modest. They will also wrap sandwiches to go, since they are allowed in The Trop, so make everyone sitting near you jealous while you eat a Po-boy and they have a sad little hotdog. Our favorite plan is to get to The Trop early, park at The Trop, walk 2 blocks to Ricky Ps, eat, walk back to the game and enjoy!!! We live this place and during baseball season we eat here once or twice a week. My waistline bears the sad evidence of that. Chuckle.

Great po-boys. Better than average gumbo. They just opened up a spot in Tropicana Field, as well. So if you're at the game and need and craving Andouille, check em out

Bland dirty rice, piled high pork was more of a florida landscape - flat. Bread was pretty good. Service nice, but not knowledgable of the menu and ingredients of the dishes. Unfortunately for me a non repeat restaurant.

Five yums up to this place! I was a little nervous to try it because I just visited New Orleans a couple of months back. The food was phenomenal and I was afraid my expectations would get the best of me. But Ricky P's pleased my palate on so many levels!! The decor inside is nice and the art on the walls reminds me of all the art I saw from local artists in NOLA. The ladies bathroom was also nicely decorated like an old fashioned powder room. These are the things I appreciate. You never know what you'll find in a restaurant bathroom and I like to be delightfully surprised. Ok now on to the important stuff. Shrimp and grits. YUM! Every time I've had this dish it has been with a different sauce but always fabulous. Ricky P's serves it up with a creamy andouille sauce that is full of flavor. The grits are still super yummy and creamy on their own. The shrimp were well seasoned although a tad salty but you can just mix it in. Only complaint is this dish is only on their weekend brunch menu. Bollocks! Serve it all the time! Cuban sandwich. Yum! The bread is fabulous. French bread of course. The roasted pork is so delectable. I don't even really care much for the flavor of pork but this stuff got me jonesin. You gotta get the potato salad. Repeat, YOU GOTTA GET THE POTATO SALAD. And put it ON the Cuban. Amazing. The grilled potatoes also rock. The live jazz on Sunday is also a nice touch. Wish I hadn't waited so long to try this place. Can't wait to return!

TL;DR - Stale Bread = Bad Sandwich = Just ok For me, what makes or breaks a sandwich is the bread. When half your menu is made up of sandwiches, you better make sure the bread is on point! On this particular day, the bread I got wasn't stale but it wasn't fresh either. It was the 3-4 day old bread you'd eat if thats all there was left in the house but you'd be okay with using it to feed the ducks too. Minus one star. I supposedly got one of their more popular items, the BLFnT, which is short for Bacon Lettuce Fish and Tomato Sandwhich. Aside from the old bread, the fried fish filet was just blaaaand. I tried dousing it with one of their hot sauces but still couldn't make it as enjoyable as I hoped. The whole time I kept thinking about how much happier I would be eating across the street at Bodega. Add to the fact that I was still hungry after eating my meal which included a side of fries. Automatic minus 1 star in my book. In all I spent 15 bucks total including tip. Not sure I'd go back. Too many other appealing options and places to try to go back and eat an average sandwich.

All of the food tasted really fresh and they serve pretty large portions. My friend and I would each order different things and split our plates since it was s9 much food. The stuffed mushrooms are especially my favorite, I only wish they would give you more than 4.

Looking for a great Brunch place ended up here. They have an extensive brunch menu but it's not out of this world. Ordered the 2 egg plate egg white, with ham and house potatoes was eatable but not something I was crave for. Plates go to the bland side. My friend ordered the benedict and was ok buy not great. Mimosas are weak and no natural juicing at all. Finally the service was mediocre she could of done a better job knowing the place was almost empty. It will be a while before I come back.

My wife and I decided to go to St Petersburg to watch the fireworks at Straub Park since the kids were Jammin in Jamaica. We found a Bed and Breakfast on Beach Drive for the night and off to "the Burg" we went. We made lunch plans with my sister and thought Bodega would be a good place BUT they were closed for the Fourth of July. We look across the street and There was Ricky P's and after looking them up on Yelp, we headed across the street. The place screams "The Big Easy" from across the street but even more when you walk in the door. I love little places like this and we were quickly seated. Our server was very nice but seemed to need a little prodding helping these first timers get acquainted with the menu. As usual I ordered my iced tea with lime and the girls just wanted some water. My wife and I chose to split a blackened shrimp Po Boy with Creole slaw and each try a bowl of soup along with a bowl of Creole Jambalaya to share. My sister just wanted a blackened shrimp Po Boy and some Creole slaw. I ordered the Cajun Corn & Lobster Bisque and my wife ordered the File Seafood Gumbo. Our soup arrived and we sampled them both. The Gumbo was delicious but the bisque was another story. Neither of us liked the taste since it was bland and lacking lobster flavor. Our server quickly swapped it out for a bowl of gumbo and now we were both happy. Well the wife would have preferred a second piece of bread to sop up that goodness in the bottom of the bowl. Our server had our Po Boy split in two and served with slaw with each half. I was very pleased that everything was just as I requested. The Jambalaya had 2 spoons and and was placed between our dishes. I love when the servers pay attention to the little details. My sister took a look at her Po Boy and realized she had a Two Meal shrimp sandwich in front of her... lol My sister LOVED the creole claw and half of that Po Boy before running out of steam and later taking the rest of it ToGo... Mama and I asked for a side of remoulade sauce and OMG did it set off that Po Boy! WELL DONE Ricky P... The bread you use for your Po Boy was fabulous! The creole slaw was not really my style but it was good. The Creole Jambalaya was was Meh... The Andouille sausage was weak on flavor and it was bland to be blunt. I was surprised by that because their gumbo was anything but bland. They have a full bar and an outside patio so I am willing to bet it is a great spot to go in the evening. Parking is on the street and they do have a bike rack. I should have checked to see if they offered WIFI but was slacking... It is the 4th of July after all... lol Overall a mixed review but the Bisque and Jambalaya are why it did not get a 4. Maybe I just experienced an off day from the kitchen because that Gumbo and Po Boy says the kitchen can burn when it fires on ALL cylinders... *wink* 4 - Service 5 - Gumbo 2 - Bisque 5 - Po Boy 2 - Jambalaya 5 - Decor

Went here for Sunday Brunch. Heard a radio DJ say he'd had the best Eggs Benedict ever here, which is my favorite breakfast dish, so had to check it out. I was not disappointed. Not the best I've ever had but definitely up at the top. This had a bit of a cajun flair, which was good, but I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to EB and the Hollandaise was not lemony enough for my taste. But it was still very good, as were the bloody marys and service! Went with two friends and they liked it too. The easy jazz in the background was a nice touch and the decor was good. They had a little veggie hors d'oeuvres bar, which was a nice touch, and everything seemed clean.

and OMG the bourbon bread pudding is a must have!!! Crawfish Monica, Crabcakes, The Crab Louie sauce, Jambalaya, Ettouffe' the soups, the bread, If they served napkins I am sure they would be delicious. I have tried it all and its all top shelf taste(havent tried the napkins yet)Definately a New Orleans feel to the atmosphere. The staff always goes above and beyond to make sure that you have the best experience possible. They also have a Jazz brunch on Sundays as well that will knock your socks off! Highly recommended !!!

You have to love a menu that explains the difference between Cajun jambalaya and Creole jambalaya you know you have found "authentic" food. The dirty rice is fantastic! My wife got the "Frenchaletta" which was a Muffaletta on French bread. Well, kinda... but it was fantastic. There was live music. Service was OK. I had a couple of their Abita draft beers. We ended it by splitting a Bread Pudding desert (plenty for two) which may have been my favorite part. Next time I am going to attack their soups, all three of which looked incredible so the hard part will be to chose which one, and yes there will be a next time as we plan to come back. This place is a definite repeat. As always, I find my saying "why don't we go to downtown St. Pete more often". What a great downtown St. Pete has created. There are so many good to great restaurants there!

I'm impressed. When you go you will not leave hungry or sober. Very open 2 story space with mostly booths. The drinks are very good and quite strong. The food was excellent, a bit spicy, and plenty of it. Important note, the cup of soup is a bowl, the bowl is a kettle. Order accordingly. There are two large outdoor spaces for smoking. Owner came over to make sure we were pleased, which we were.

Greatly enjoyed our evening at Ricky P's. We came in for a quick drink, but lingered because we had so much fun at the bar meeting locals, the owner and the bartender. Pleasant ambience, nice old building, good service. Wonderful crab cakes! Loved the bread pudding. Good neighborhood restaurant with a Cajun flair.

Ricky P's Orleans Bistro has great authentic Louisiana food and southern hospitality . Live music on the weekend! Must try the Ultimate Shrimp Po-Boy and Tuesday Special "Shrimp and Grits" WOW!!! Don't forget to try Dirty Rice on the side...Enjoy!

Unlike some of the other reviews our server was attentive and never missing for too long so I guess something must have improved or it was my lucky day. The rating is not for the decor, booths, flatware and plastic coke glasses because that felt just a little too much like Denny's, even the prevalent yellow in the artwork took me there. So getting past that how was the food? I've only ever stopped in New Orleans one night at a time on my way to Houston so apart from Brunch at the Court of Two Sisters and The Bananas Foster at Commanders Palace nothing seems to be logged in the taste bud memory cells as the way Cajon is supposed to be so I couldn't tell you about the authenticity of the flavors or the contents of the dishes served. I can tell you if you are a fan of the more traditional Eggs Benedict then you might be disappointed in Ricky P's brunch version. If you enjoy crab, bacon and a rich flavorful sauce on your Benedict then you will be going back - just one minor nit-picking mention and that was the eggs were over done. The fruit and veggie bar was a nice touch for brunch guests and if you enjoy a spicy Bloody Mary you should be impressed. I believe I will keep visiting 4th Street for their Po Boys though :-)

Food was excellent. Great deal for the price. The building is awesome. Location is convenient, not grouped with a lot of other places downtown. Only issue was the service. The server wasn't very professional. Based on the atmosphere, I expected a bit more class. Great place for a casual dinner. I'll go back and bring friends.

Cajun/creole food is at the top of my list. If i would move anywhere else right now it would be new orleans, just for the food. That said, what i have had so far at Ricky P's Bistro is pretty damn close to NOLA goodness. I had been wanting to try their place on fourth for a while, but it never happened. So i am really excited to see them move into savannah's old place. I loved the chicken and andouille gumbo, and the corn and crab chowder. The boudin balls and dirty rice could have used liver, but i understand that's not for everyone. The softshell crab was really tasty, and cooked perfect (though its look freaked my fiance out, haha). The tapenade on the muffaletta was bit salty but was a great sandwich. So much more on the menu I cannot wait to try. Plus you can wash it all down with a variety of Abita beer! One more small complaint though, the sazerac isn't made with absinth. oh yeah, i overheard they may have a crawfish boil at some point! Hells yeah, high fives all around. Try this place out guys!

I absolutely LOVE the original Ricky P's on north 4th st. I was excited to try this new location downtown and knew the location was a great fit for a Nawlins feel!! The last restaurant in this location looked great but feel severely short of expectations. I am sad to say that maybe this location is cursed! 2 in a row where anticipations where soooo high and follow thru was uuugh..really? The service on a Friday afternoon was good, not great but considering it was 12:30 I would have expected the place to be busy. It was 20-30% cap. I was dying to have an Oyster Po-Boy and was immediately let down when I was told that the recent storm in the gulf had left Ricky's 86'd on Oysters..... Well except fresh raw oysters!! I was bewildered that they had fresh oysters but could not make me a oyster Po-boy??? The server informed me that the oysters they use for the pb's are not nearly as good as the ones used for raw oyster and "quite frankily it would not be cost effective to make a pb with them". Utterly disappointed I settled on the grouper PB.... It was better the a drive thru fish sandwich but probably the worst grouper sandwich I have ever had here on the gulf coast. Totally disappointed and now worried that the original RP's may have lost sight of its food quality as well and spent too much time looking to expand. I hope not but we will see. I will never go back to the downtown location again and based upon what I saw/tasted/experienced today I am afraid it too will suffer the fate of the provious est in this location. Bottom line, it's not location on this one...it's awful food!

I'd been craving a soft-shell crab po'boy for ages, and the wife wanted shrimp. So we tried this place out. Cool location and a nice but small covered outside seating. Great sandwich with outstanding New Orleans seasoning. Everything was that Louisiana spicy style, even the sides - I had fries that were well seasoned and the wife got potato salad with a bit of a kick to it. Very good stuff. My soft-shell crab was tasty, but the wife's shrimp po'boy had a chicken strip in it. Also, the service was pretty bad. I'm a pretty forgiving guy with slow service when places are busy - we've all been there. But at 2pm on a Tuesday in an empty restaurant, having to wait 3 minutes to even see a hostess - and then when she sat us, she pointed to a table, handed me the menus, and asked what we were drinking. I literally hadn't even sat down. She said "we have coke products, and this is our drink menu. What would you like?" How about 5 minutes?! After that, the remaining service was still pretty slow. I've been to places like this before - great food with terrible service. I haven't been back to any of those places, and I doubt I'll be back here.

From a food perspective, the french toast bananas foster and bread pudding were good, and I would give the rum sauce served with the pudding an "A". The beignets were just OK . Unfortunately, the service was so poor, it overshadowed the quality of the meal & affected my rating. Although our party was quite large, the place was not over crowed and our waiter was clearly overwhelmed and extremely inattentive. I never got a refill on my breakfast coffee which for me, is a huge deal breaker. I have friends that go quite regularly, so will give it another try if the opportunity presents ...

My review is very much going to echo another reviewer, Christopher B. I adore New Orleans and everything about it. To find out that an authentic restaurant is opening in St. Petersburg! I had to go. I decided to go for the one year anniversary / Mardi Gras celebration. The atmosphere is amazing, the people so friendly and the outdoor area incredible. Great location for a Mardi Gras party including a second line and Gumbo Boogie band performing through the night. My favorite part by far was dancing in the adjacent parking lot with other party-goers of all ages. There is nothing like New Orleans music to get you moving. The restaurant would have received more stars had the food actually been authentic. We were a party of 6 and were sat promptly on a busy Saturday afternoon. The waiter came right to our table and was one of the nicest I have ever had. My disappointment with the authenticity started with the drink order. I have not been to New Orleans since July of 2012 so I was really looking forward to a Sazerac to start my meal. Much to my dismay, they make the most iconic, traditional New Orleans cocktail INCORRECTLY. When I asked the waiter why it is made with Makers Mark he checked with the owner who responded with "because I like Makers but I know this is not the correct way to make a Sazerac". HUH? Then why call it that. Make it a play on Sazerac or Sazerac inspired or something! But do not tout being authentic when it clearly is not. I ended up ordering Abita Mardi Gras Bock. This theme continued throughout the meal. The shrimp on the shrimp remoulade salad were wonderful ~ large and sweet, but the remoulade tasted like bottled Thousand Island dressing. The cup of jambalaya is actually a bowl and tasted much like a Chef Boyardee rendition of the real thing. Another friend ordered the Voodoo Pasta which was like a spicy alfredo and not too bad but swimming in oil. And another ordered the etouffee which was creamier than expected but again, not too bad, just not authentic. I truly wanted to love this place. The decor - great, vibe - incredible, people - outstanding. But the food - just ok and definitely not authentic New Orleans. I will definitely go back for the great music on the outdoor patio and some ice cold Abitas.

Delicious breakfast food. Ordered the Ricky P's Benedict which has crab cakes instead of English muffin-there was way crab than cake. So good. Breakfast comes with self serve fruit and vege bar.

Really glad to have a good new restaurant to visit in the area. A good-sized and diverse menu definitely makes me want to go back and try some more items off of it. We were in on a slow night but service was good and the server helped us in making decisions without saying "everything is good!", I always like to see when someone can offer a real opinion on the food instead of a generic response. Extra points from me. The only major downside was that unfortunately for me I have a recently developed shellfish allergy and couldn't try a lot of amazing sounding dishes on the menu.

We had a BLFnT, a shrimp po boy and the jambalaya which were all very delicious! The potato salad was spicy and very tasty! As for dining in I can't rate because we ordered out but if in town again we would definitely stop by a second time!

Ricky P's would get a 3 if it was advertised as American food. The service was good, and the food we ate was good. My friend ordered a French Dip sandwich and she enjoyed it. I love New Orleans and I love Cajun food. Since it was lunch time of course I ordered a muffaletta sandwich. Living here in Tampa sometimes I crave a muffaletta so I am always on the search for a good one. This was not the one. There are two important components to the Muffaletta sandwich, the bread and the olive salad. The bread must be round! And thick! Must must must must! LOL. It's a tradition! And the sandwich needs to be made well enough in advance so that all the oily, olivey goodness of the olive salad can seep down into the bread, infusing every bit. I was so disappointed. My sandwich looked like a cuban with a little olive salad on top. It made me very sad. On the plus side, like I said, the service was good. The restaurant is well decorated, and I will give them another chance. I'm just a little nervous about that Cajun brunch now....

Ricky P's deserves a "C'." If they aspire to mediocrity, they have achieved it.

I enjoyed this restaurant very much. The real deal for Nawlin's cuisine. Had the blacken Red Fish the other night it was awesome and very price friendly. Boudin balls are a must! Cant wait to go back.

So I went here with a friend the other day and we both ordered the seafood gumbo which was pretty good. I also ordered the boudin. When it came out it wasn't at all what I expected. I tasted a very small piece with my fingers and it tasted like bar b -q. My friend spent a lot of time in Huston and had a lot of Cajun food and told me that that boudin didn't look right so I told the waitress that I didn't like it, and she got an attitude and started backing away from me. Our service with the waitress was really slow, but I did see that she was really busy so I guess they were short staffed. We had to literally go inside to get another waitress who was very pleasant. I told her that I didn't want my boudin and she took it back. When our waitress came out with the bill, I asked her if she had took the boudin off and she told me once I order something that I had to pay for it regardless because the restaurant had to eat the cost. Needless to say not going back, and very rude service!!

Best food in town, hands down. Good service and good live music. Had the soft shell crab and it's as good as it is back home. Oysters on a half shell reasonably priced and delicious. The food isn't all that expensive either.

Just discovered this the other day for brunch. I had the gumbo. Very good !! And crazy cheap too at like $7. Oh.. and they have a big fruit spread (complimentary) while you wait.
Glad to see this place open up along Central last year. You can tell by the menu they know how to do good NOLA. We sat on the front patio and I had the roast beef Po Boy for lunch from a friends recommendation and it was A+. I will go back for dinner certainly.
Faux-Cajun....! They claim to be REAL cajun but they are not...! cajun-like is more the truth! Impolite wait staff, foul-mouthed wit-satff & snide wait-staff...! Will not be retunring to this place..!

I went there last Friday with three friends. The service was fine, no problem. Three of us ordered vodka drinks. Mine was with club soda and lime, a double. The lime was fine, but I could not taste any vodka in the drink, and there were no bubbles in the soda. The other two vodka drinkers also said theirs was very weak. The guy who got the beer was the only one who got a decent drink. Also, they used the wrong bread for the muffaletta, which was a real disappointment. The meat and the olive salad in it were good and authentic, but the roll spoiled the effect. I seriously doubt I'll go back.

So so good! We ordered boudin balls, gumbo, pork and beans, jambalaya, and bread pudding and it was all amazing! The kid friendly options did not disappoint as well. Nice environment in a sweet hip location. We will return and I cannot wait to try crabcakes and crawfish!

There is a lot to like about Ricky P's. The atmosphere is great, it has NOLA vibe to it which is great New Orleans is one of my favorite cities. The service is good and everyone that works here is friendly and warm. So why 3 stars, well I've been hete about 3 or 4 times with the hope that it'll be great but it's always just average, nothing that I say to myself I love this and I'm going to come back and get this again. On our visit yesterday, we were their for Sunday brunch. They have a raw veggie and fruit bar which is a nice addition . My friend ordered the crab cake breakfast and I ordered the cochon de lait. Her crab cakes has good flavor but they were small and mushy. They didn't look appetizing, oddly shaped and without much color from cooking them, they may have been undercooked. As for my cochon de lait, it was good but a tad too salty. The coleslaw had was good and added a nice creaminess to the sandwhich. We both had the creole potato salad which was delicious but the potatoes were undercooked so I would hit a hard potato here and there. I would also say they need to update their website, a few that are on their weren't on the menu and tge describe their bloody Mary's with a seasoned rim and blue cheese stuffed olives, which I love but not spiced rim or blue cheese olives. I would say a little tweeking and quality control would put Ricky P's at good or great instead of average.

Ricky P's has a nice system for parking at Ray's games. It is $20 to park, but you get a $20 food and drink voucher to be used that day. The location is great. The spots are closer than most of the parking at the Trop! We started with the boudin balls, which are sausage and rice fried in panko breadcrumbs. They came with a spicy mustard sauce. They were good but not great. I had the shrimp etouffee. Again, good but not great. It was really creamy and not worth the calories.

Went to Ricky P's after about a year since my last visit...and things are ROCKING. I had one of the best meals out I've had in ages...every detail was perfect. The Oyster Po Boy was one of the best sandwiches I have eaten in a long while, just delectable. I managed to eat an entire bread pudding for dessert, a great deal at 6 bucks. A basic pudding, but that whiskey sauce is like crack. Service - excellent (and very patient with us) The ONLY issue was the live New Orleans jazz music. It was played way too loud and the acoustics are AWFUL in the room. You could almost feel the entire place breath a sigh of relief every time the band took a break, since you could actually have a conversation.

If you like cajun style food with a New Orleans vibe, Ricky P's is the place to go in Tampa Bay. I was born and raised in Louisiana and this is the only spot I have found that has the Louisiana feel. Ricky worked at the famous Mothers restaurant in New Orleans as a youngin and it shows in the "ferdi". Some of my favorites are the cochon de le, the sloppy roast beef which Ricky says "you should eat naked in the shower", and the shrimp etoufee is hands down the best I have ever eaten. The Sunday jazz buffet is fantastic and is accompanied with live music. I never miss this spot when I am downtown for a Rays game!

I have to agree with Brett on this one, I want to love it, but I just can't. We went on a Friday night and it was fairly crowded with some live music on the patio (whose music choice just didn't go with the theme at all) We took a high top by the bar and waited and waited for service. Finally got our drinks ordered and ordered some boudin balls($8.00). The drinks were good although my cosmo was barely 3/4 filled and for $9 at least fill the martini glass. The balls came out and they were quite good. really good. We ordered another round of drinks(bloody mary $7.50 and st germain cocktail $9) and the bartender(Melanie) took our menus away. without asking if we were going to order anything else, which we had intention on. Drinks were deposited quickly and that's the last we saw of her. Although she was right behind the bar and could see us giving her the eye since we were only 6 feet away no effort was made on her part whatsoever. At that point, fellow Yelper P.E.M. (who is friends with the owners and the only reason I decided to try the place after their unfortunate health code violation history, closed april 2014 for live roaches, which he assured me has been cleared up) was fed up and ready to leave. Since we had a few cocktails I nixed that idea and said let's just go sit at the bar. "If you cant get service to come to you, go to them" grrrr After that, since the bartender didn't have to move more then 3 feet service was good. He ordered the fried oyster po boy ($14) and I ordered the shrimp po boy ($12) with romoulade instead of the basic mayo it comes with (that gets a star deduction in itself) His was good, not my thing, but I can see why he liked it. Mine, well, tasted rank. I don't know if it was the shrimp or the sauce or the combo of, but it was bad. About 1/4 way through I realized if I ate this I'd pay for it so I scraped the shrimp and sauce off and had a tomato and lettuce sandwich. (I would of sent it back and complained but since he is friends with the owners I tried to play nice) They were lucky to get 3 stars as the atmosphere was cute, the drinks were good, and the boudin balls were delish. I don't know if that's enough of a reason to go back, but I probably will and try something different hoping for better results.

I think Ricky p's echoes the big easy....Sometimes it's really spicy, sometimes it's not, just depends on the day. Sometimes the food is served quickly, sometimes it's not, just depends on the day. What's consistent is the quality of the food, I've never had anything that wasn't good here. My usual is the corn and crab bisque with the andouille bites. My ex was from Louisiana and she swore that the gumbo is the real deal...

Nice little spot on central ave for a taste of Nawlins'... Went for Sunday brunch and the live music was a great touch...started off with the goudin balls: crunchy on the outside, warm and a little gooey on the inside (but with nice texture and not too spicy). The corn and crab bisque was creamy, a little sweet, and had a little spicy kick that I liked. Our mains were the special of the day : catfish over cheesy grits covered with andouille sauce... Could have been a little more flavorful but it was easily solved with some of "Ricky P's habanero sauce." the oyster Po' boy was just ok: breading needed a little salt and pepper and could have benefitted from some kind of special sauce (think : remoulade sauce). The side of potato salad was a pleasant surprise : skin on red potatoes and hints of green olives.... Yum! Finished our Sunday meal with some beneits and life is good :o)

The food is very well seasoned - you can tell it's freshly made! The chichen and andouille gumbo has a kick to it and was the best of their dishes! The boudin balls had a bit too rice and the jambalaya was a bit dry. Overall, try it, their menu is pretty extensive so if you like cajun, you'll find something to like.

I walked by the kitchen because the bathrooms are right next to it. All I have to say is while I was waiting for the bathroom and for my beer, I looked over to see my server eating and texting. Not to mention I looked further down to see a zatarans red beans & rice box. YOU MEAN, I CAN GET RED BEANS & RICE AT THE GROCERY STORE AND IT WILL TASTE LIKE THE SUPPOSED AUTHENTIC RICKY P'S. Just when I thought their food was authentic, it's not. I also walked by the bar to pick my beer up noticing that it wasn't on the table and bartender wasn't busy, I figured since my servers goal is to eat and be on the phone, I might as well get my own beer. I returned to the table and about 5-10 minutes later the server shows up with a beer. She mentioned it took a while because they had to change the keg but I saw my beer sitting at the server station while she ate and texted and I just sent it back. I asked about the dessert and the server actually mentioned that some of the desserts aren't made at the restaurant but the owners house. Obviously i skipped dessert. I was leaving, I witnessed another server eating soup out of the container and thought to myself, thank god I didn't order the soup. I will never return and would suggest another place for LA cuisine. I also did some research and Ricky P's had been shut down a few times for failing health inspections. Which now that I think about it, we had to ask if our table could be wiped down especially around the hot sauce. It doesn't look like they change the sauces out either. I had actually asked to speak with a manager which was not there. The service was terrible, experience terrible, and the food you can buy in a box at the grocery store.

I love this place! Every time I come here the experience is a good one. The food is fantastic and I love the Andygator on tap. Recommendations: crab and corn bisque, chicken and andouille gumbo, blackened catfish, fried oysters and sampler platter.

Not a bad place but not the best New Orleans style food. I love going to NOLA and have been to many an authentic eatery down there and love the food. This place dose not match up to anything I have tried in New Orleans. I have been here three times twice for lunch and once for dinner over the past two years. The gumbo is not bad. The crab cakes were okay, a little on the greasy side. I love a good Jambalaya and the what they make here is not as flavorful as I would like and it is mostly rice. No heat whatsoever. Shrimp etouffe here is not that good either, very bland, had to toss in a lot of hot sauce.

Holy cow!!! Gumbo is the best I've ever had! Amazing flavor. Servers are wonderful. We even got a personal visit from Mr Ricky himself. Genuinely nice guy. I come here often for the gumbo. On my most recent visit I came for brunch. What better way to start your day then beignets and coffee?!?! The "fruit Buffett" was more like a plate of fruit but the food was so delicious it didn't matter.

My biggest pet peeve is a cranky, rude, incompetent waiters. This woman could have cared less that we were her customers. She was short with us and acted like I was imposing on her life when I asked for things. I tried to get her to explain one of the appetizers and she was so bothered to answer my questions she practically rolled her eyes. RUDE. I had the Frenchaletta sandwich. It had decent flavor but the bread was originally pressed and was cold by the time it was served so it was pretty hard. The only thing saving this rating as a 2 was a really great Filthy Martini. I've had brunch here once and I remember it being okay. We were in a large group. Again I do remember poor customer service that time as well.

Great "New Orleans" themed restaurant. Great food choices, but the Sunday brunch with live jazz music and amazing Bloody Marys is where it's at.
Always a pleasure coming here. We have a wide selection of your favorite New Orleans classics and their own twist to New Orleans dishes. They also have Sunday brunch New Orleans style. The flavors are amazing! :-)

Take it from this girl, whose family hails from Naw'lins...this fare is SPOT ON, in terms of authenticity. I had the seafood gumbo and the shrimp and grits & my son had the shrimp po 'boy! We'll be back!

We just moved to downtown St. Pete, and we received a pamphlet when we moved in that featured good restaurants in the area. We decided to try Ricky P's because it was the closest to us, and were very pleasantly surprised! The food is consistently great, service is prompt and courteous. Will be frequenting this restaurant in the future!

We enjoyed the food here. Husband is born and raised in New Orleans so I try to find spots locally that appeal to his taste buds. He had the jambalaya and was pleased. Food arrived in decent time and came to the table piping hot! Service was acceptable. Nothing will compare to the true authentic meals you find in NoLa but this will do just fine. We will surely return when in St. Pete.

Why 3 stars? Because it's hard to label it above average. --- --- --- Ricky P's is the classic, "I want to love you, but I just can't" for me. First visit, I went with a shrimp po boy. It was about 80% bread, 20% substance. Second visit, has jambalaya. Very underwhelming. Not a lot of meat. Not an enjoyable flavor. Just.... not my favorite. I'll probably give Ricky P's another chance, but they have not won me over at this point.
I LOVE RICKY P'S!!! i am from New Orleans. With an experienced opinion about what N.O. is about- this place delivers. Mr "P" has brought to Saint Pete a wonderful mix of New Orleans food and a variety of music. Above all, New Orleans is about community and this place offers that by putting on public events, as well as, a weekly entertainment line up. They bring people together. You'll hear jazz and other types of music, depending upon the day or event. Also, I MUST mention the staff. They are outstanding! In particular, Melanie and Meghan go above and beyond for their customers. They offer a warm welcome and personal interest in making your visit a great one. Not to mention.. both servers remember people's names, their drinks from previous visits.... and what their favorite meal is on the menu. They do it with me and my boyfriend, as well as countless others. This is a l touch you just can't buy or get in many places. IT'S REAL AND ITS' SINCERE. To me, this is a true reflection of community and the vibe that New Orleans is about. If you are waiting to hear about the food. It's GREAT! It's always Hot. And it's timely. When I've asked for something special.. they are always happy to accommodate without question...it's never a big deal. My boyfriend and I have been a regulars for at least 3 years. I've never had a negative experience. I've read some reviews that are somewhat unfavorable of this restaurant. I think it's important to remember all restaurants get busy. Especially if they have a good reputation- Which this place does. Before putting out negative reviews on a restaurant or an individual - ask yourself first - How would YOU do if you were doing their job right then- especially on a Friday night when it's packed? We are all human-subject to flaws. If you find you are at an establishment and are unhappy with your service. Speak up and let them fix it on the spot. Give them that opportunity first. It's only fair. For those of you who want to try this place - I encourage you to go!!!! - Have your own unique experience and YOU be the judge for yourself. I'm certainly glad I did.

Really liked this place. Food was very good and I felt like I was in New Orleans. Both inside and outside is comfy and clean. Our waitress was attentive and just engaged enough with us to be helpful. She is a gem and a keeper. We ordered almost every app and I must say, I liked them all. There were 8 in our party and the wait staff jumped right in to make us comfortable. We all ordered something different and each entree was delicious. This restaurant is located on a cute street with stores that you can walk after dessert.

One of those places that is always delicious. The poboys are really good, the crab cakes are delicious, and the gumbo is really tasty. The restaurant itself is nice inside, they have outdoor seating, and parking. The area that it is in is starting to really come alive and you are very close to Tropicana field. Green Bench brewing is also right behind Ricky P's.

Really liked this place! Had the seafood gumbo and my boyfriend had the pork and beans. Both were very tastey and full of flavor. Also, our waiter was very nice, polite, and attentive. Its refreshing to get such great service. I think his name was Jose. Will definitely be back!

I live in Connecticut but the company I work for has two offices in Tampa and one in St. Pete so I travel to Florida often. Whenever I'm there I make it a point to eat here. The food is delicious and authentic. My favorite is the shrimp etouffe. The drinks are delicious and strong. Highly recommend this place.

Good service. Good prices. Good food. Good ambience. That is 4. I didn't go for 5 because the corn bread coating was a little too thick but it sure tasted like a little bit of Louisiana Looking forward to returning

I was hoping they would be at least HALF as good as Savanna's, but no such luck. The menu is WAY overpriced for the quality. I may not be from "Nola", but I have a great palette and what we ordered was disappointing. $16.00 is ridiculous for an oyster poboy that lacked seasoning and the bread to oyster ration was way off (too much bread). The potato salad was passable and my husband's tomato salad was non- descript. Now what made it even worse was that within 3 hours I got sick as a dog! I was not happy to spend the afternoon and evening in the bathromm after half- consuming a $40.00 lunch for two that was just not good. I do wish Billy and her husband would reopen Savanna's somewhere and bring back their fabulous chef.

I went here my first time on a Sunday not knowing they had Sunday brunch but stayed anyways and was so glad I did. I ordered the Shrimp Po Boy, Cajun Crab and Corn bisque. I loved their sweet tea and coffee. I wanted to try the beignets but they were sold out when I got their at 2. Their brunch is from 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday. The service was great! Food was great! So cant wait to go back on another night to try more food. Everything was fresh and they also had a fruit and vegetable bar complimentary for brunch. I'm definitely a Ricky P's fan.

Bring back the PO Boy shop! Disappointed with the Bistro Shrimp Po Boy at Bistro over salted, over fried & shrimp to bread ratio: more bread than shrimp. What little shrimp in sandwich was cold! Charbroiled oysters touted to come out sizzling were little lukewarm gobules on 1/2 shell swimming in some kind of water/rosemary bath, not sizzling in the shell with melted butter, garlic, grated parm/romano per menu description. Go to youtube link to Dragos charbroiled oysters(Metarie Landmark) for clue /tips how to make! It's soo yummy. If you guys could perfect charbroiled oysters I'd be back! m.youtube.com/watch?v=-Q…

I love this restaurant on so many levels. I love the New Orleans-style feel to this bistro. I love the outside seating area as well. It's in a great location, and parking is relatively easy. The food is spectacular, but Sunday brunch is where it's at. Their eggs Benedict are unparalleled, both versions of it- regular and Cajun style. Seriously, if you haven't been, go. Why are you still reading this? Go!

We went for dinner tonight and despite the rain the dining room was full at 6:30pm so we elected to sit outside under cover, luckily it was not too hot. I was not blown away, I much prefer Savannah's that was in this same spot before or if I want Cajun food again I'll go to Cajun Cafe on the Bayou. A lot of the menu was blacked out, they had one special and did not tell us they had a restaurant week menu (I only noticed they were participating when I saw the flyer on the wall when we were leaving). We split two appetizers - stuffed mushrooms and oysters rockafeller and then I got seafood gumbo and my boyfriend had the combo platter. I had to add a lot of hot sauce to the gumbo because with out it there was not much flavor. The service was good, not great, not bad. I ordered the Absolute-ly Filthy Martini because I like them and it said it comes with 3 blue cheese stuffed olives, I got mine and it was good but I only got 2 olives - it is the little things that I notice and bother me. Don't say it comes with 3 and then serve 2. If a group of friends were going for a night out and picked this place I'd go, if I had a choice I'd choose another place. I've had Po Boy's at his sandwich shop up on 4th St and perhaps the next time I'm up that way I'll just stick to that.

We went to this place with high hopes as I'm a huge fan of Cajun style cuisine. I ordered the Frenchaletta and my girlfriend and the Cajun Cuban and we ordered a cup of jambalaya to split. My Frenchaletta was very unremarkable and the meats were very poor quality. The pistachio and green olive mixture was also bland. My girlfriends was very bland tasting as well. Lastly, the waitress forgot to bring the Jambalaya which was very disappointing. Overall not horrible but barely average.

Let me preface by saying I've never been to Nawlins. And I'm definitely not a Cajun food connoisseur, but the shit I ate was good. Now if I go to Nawlins is that shit gonna be better? I've eaten a lot of creole/Cajun food. I had the roast beef pork boy and seasoned fries. The seasoned fries probably increased my blood pressure due to how salty it was. The roast beef pork boy was just plain as day. It doesn't even compare to some fast food po boys. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Can a Sandwich Shop become a Nice Restaurant? Ricky P's used to be a New Orleans style po-boy shop in north St Petersburg. It was basic and good. They recently made the jump to central St Pete in a nice facility that has housed a couple other restaurants. We got there early and there was only one other table with diners. Service was fine except that the server, as pleasant as she was, didn't really know the menu. Unfortunately, a few other tables got filled and this one waitress had to try to handle it all and service kind of broke down. The cocktails were only OK and did not portend well for the dinner. Fortunately, the food was mostly very good. The gumbo was quite nice. The chargrilled oyster appetizer wasn't as good as what I've had in New Orleans. There was no char taste, but the rosemary sauce itself was quite nice and we mopped it up with bread. The oyster po-boy was delicious as it had always had been at the sandwich shop. The fried shrimp dinner was very good with several very large and wonderful shrimp. The bread pudding dessert was large and really nice. Hopefully, Ricky P's can do a little more training and have on sufficient staff in the future. Other than that, really nice food and I will return.

Their new downtown location is great; it has a cool New Orleans look and feel to it. I had the seafood gumbo and Shrimp Etouffee fir lunch, both were amazing! Real Cajun food. If you're ever near St. Pete, FL, you have to check this place out!
Ricky P's is one of the best on Central! Great Cajun food, great facility, vibe and staff! Rick is a true Cajun and brings recipes direct from NOLA! Bar area has good TV and location is perfect for meeting before Rays games!!!

If you are looking for Cajun food. This is not the place to go. This is a New Orleans style restaurant with Creole cuisine. If you don't know the difference, there is a huge one. Though Cajuns may share a lot of the same foods as Creole cuisine, the spices used are distinctly different. Saying that, Ricky P's has great fried shrimp po-boys. The andouille and chicken gumbo is amazing. The boudin balls are average. The crab cakes and andouille bites are good. The red beans and rice and dirty rice are also average. The bread pudding is really nice for dessert. Ricky also has an assortment of specialty drinks that are inspired by New Orleans. Great selection of Abita beer. The wait staff is usually on point and very hospitable. Occasionally, there is live music, usually jazz. Overall review: Nice place to go, fun atmosphere, good drinks...definitely like to go back often.
Pretty good brunch. NOLA inspired spin on most dishes. Very respectable beignets. Haven't yet ventured beyond the breakfast offerings.

On a recent trip to New Orleans, I studied Yelp and checked with the locals and found some of the best places in town to enjoy a Po Boy. In all, four were ingested, and they varied from very good to all-out amazing! I knew that coming to Ricky P's was going to make me extra-critical, but it had to be done. I wanted another Po Boy! I went with the standard, the Shrimp Po Boy. The shrimp were good, but didn't have that saltwater kick that you get in New Orleans. The batter had the perfect texture but not a whole lot of flavor. Bread was very good, but instead of the sandwich being "dressed", it was made a bit more typical with light mayo, some lettuce shreds, and a little tomato. After a couple bites, I realized it needed a little kick and the rest of my Po Boy ended up doused in hot sauce. Either the batter needs some spices or the dressing needs a kick. New Orleans cuisine should never be bland. I will say that the Cajun Potato Salad that came with it, though, had a really nice heat to it and was superb! Everyone else in my party enjoyed their food, but I don't know if any of them "loved" it. I appreciated that the restaurant had two Abita beers on draught, and overall, it's aesthetically pleasing. The classic New Orleans photos in the bathroom were an especially nice touch. It's nice to see New Orleans cuisine represented in our area, but I don't know if it's nailing it. Perhaps the flavors were cut back for Florida's palette, but I just think it could be so much better. If you've been to New Orleans, I don't think this is going to cut it. If you've never experienced New Orleans-style cuisine, I think it's worth a shot.

Came here for lunch with my boyfriend after looking at the menu at the front door. Immediately after walking in we were greeted and politely asked to choose where ever we would like to sit and that he would we with us momentarily. Everything was awesome, from food to drink and service. The bartender played host and server. Jose M. Was wonderful and we will definitely be back.

Last night was supposed to be a dinner bicycle cruise to Ricky P.'s with the Trek Bicycle Store of St. Pete, but the torrential rains and lightening turned it into a dinner at Ricky P.'s via 4-wheeled transportation. The restaurant was not very crowded for a Friday night, perhaps because of the weather. We were seated immediately and given very attentive service by our server. She warned us that at the moment we were her only table and that she would be helicoptering us...we didn't mind one bit. The decor in Ricky P.'s is old-world in the renovated old St. Pete building. They had a voo-doo doll art display on one wall next to our table and that made for some interesting dinner conversation. I was happy to see a "Skinny Margarita" on the menu. I always like when restaurants have a lower-calorie cocktail option. The skinny margarita was quite tasty, and at only 110 calories I felt no guilt ordering a second. My entree was the combo platter, including a Louisiana style crab cake, red beans and rice, and creole cole slaw. I thought that the crab cake was really delicious and while I'm not quite sure what the difference between that and a Maryland style crabcake is, I thought that the seasoning was very good and it was loaded with crab. I did have to pick out a few pieces of shell from the crab cake, discovered while chewing (sorry...yuck), but otherwise it was delicious. I thought the red beans and rice were okay, but nothing special. The creole cole slaw was great. I know that different people prefer different styles of cole slaw, but to me this one was just right. It definitely had a creamy component, but was not overly mayonaisse-y. It was also spiced with creole seasoning which I thought was delish. I was not blown away by Ricky P's, but my friends and I had a good time and I enjoyed my dinner. I would definitely go back and try something else on the menu. One of my friends had the soft-shell crab po-boy and said it was really good.
The food is pretty authentic, I think their prices are higher than other businesses close by but their ingredients are fresh and taste like real New Orleans dishes. We went to a crawfish boil a few months ago and it's was potatoes, corn and onions (and crawfish) for two for 18.00 it's was pretty good and we couldn't finish what we had. I will definitely be back to try the po boy to see if they really know what they are doing ;-)

Waitress was great! I ordered the Boudin Balls which were great, although not what I would call authentic (I'm pretty sure these had cheese in them and having lived in NOLA, I know that authentic boudin balls don't have cheese)

(4)Lynne L.

Stop Number 4 on The Annual Taste of St Pete Tour....I love me some Cajun Food so I was really looking forward to this place since we were on a roll this day...sadly this one disappointed pretty much across the board...it looked Cajun(inside décor looked just like Bourbon Street including the second floor balcony with the iron wrought fence that is so New Orleans) acted Cajun(had all the typical Cajun Dishes and several types of Abita on Draft) but alas nothing tasted real Cajun....the table ordered Boudin Balls...a Bowl of Gumbo and a Shrimp Po Boy....The Boudin Balls were all breading with very little Sausage and practically shouted Sysco Food Service...The Gumbo was not real Cajun in style either and did not seem very homemade..The Shrimp Po Boy was a poor version of anything I have ever been served in the Big Easy and The Shrimp on it which were scarce to begin with, seemed to be of The Sea Pak or Gortons Variety...nothing annoys me more than when a place calls a sandwich a Po Boy and then does not serve it on authentic French Bread....that can get a restauranter convicted of a Felony in New Orleans..also The Po Boy was just so plain with a couple pieces of Tomato and a few sad looking lettuce threads...honestly I have seen sandwiches prepared with more care at a Subway....as if the food was not meh enough, it just took a long time to get drinks..food..bill...card back..etc considering we were the only table in the place...it's probably really a 2 star joint, but I am being generous and giving it a 3rd star because I was kind of cranky that day while there because 1)I had a Food Baby in me from all the food and beer I had consumed already that day , 2)I tried to go to the new brewery behind Ricky P's(Green Bench) and grab a brew when I saw people in there drinking, but could not because the door was locked for a Holiday Christmas Party and 3)I saw The Bodega right across the street which had some incredible looking Cuban Grub and I was stuck eating Food Service Cajun at Ricky P's:(...with all the good places in St Pete to eat and drink I think I will "laissez les bons temps rouler" elsewhere in the area and leave Ricky's to someone else since he's got some splainin to do for such mediocre food

(3)Katherine Y.

Sitting now for two hours waiting for our food. Management says it our fault because our group is too big. No waitresses and snotty attitude. Will never go back.

(2)Erin J.
Delicious breakfast food. Ordered the Ricky P's Benedict which has crab cakes instead of English muffin-there was way crab than cake. So good. Breakfast comes with self serve fruit and vege bar.
(5)Charlie K.
(4)Angela H.
We had a BLFnT, a shrimp po boy and the jambalaya which were all very delicious! The potato salad was spicy and very tasty! As for dining in I can't rate because we ordered out but if in town again we would definitely stop by a second time!
(4)Susan M.
(2)Mark L.
Ricky P's deserves a "C'." If they aspire to mediocrity, they have achieved it.
(1)Cliff W.
I enjoyed this restaurant very much. The real deal for Nawlin's cuisine. Had the blacken Red Fish the other night it was awesome and very price friendly. Boudin balls are a must! Cant wait to go back.
(4)Renee S.
(2)Sarah G.
Best food in town, hands down. Good service and good live music. Had the soft shell crab and it's as good as it is back home. Oysters on a half shell reasonably priced and delicious. The food isn't all that expensive either.
(5)Mason D.
Just discovered this the other day for brunch. I had the gumbo. Very good !! And crazy cheap too at like $7. Oh.. and they have a big fruit spread (complimentary) while you wait.

Let me preface this with I've only ever been to New Orleans once. That being said I'm a man all about taste. If I know exquisite details about the cuisine, sure I'll comment on that but in this case I'm just a man who loves food... Went to RPOB today and have to say I thought the Décor was quite fitting. The openness of the restaurant was also definitely appealing. It was a holiday afternoon and still had a decent crowd, we were probably there at about 2pm-ish. I had my kids with me, and they had the traditional melted cheese and a small burger. They aren't like me, they haven't earned their taste buds yet, but they seemed quite happy with their choice. As for me, well lets just say I splurged a bit. I grabbed a bowl of the Chicken and Andouille sausage Gumbo and a Shrimp Po Boy with a side of dirty rice. I'm always cautious trying things mom makes and makes well. So with that in mind I've learned never to order Sheppard's pie, or even a crab back. Mom makes a mean dirty rice and damn it Rick, my mom better not read this review. Dirty rice was fantastic. Didn't even need to add the hot sauce; the spices, meat and rice were just right. The gumbo was well seasoned as well, actually for some with poor taste buds you might have found it a bit hot but that's what I like. Let's save the best for last shall we? The po boy, from what I know of po boys, hit the spot for me. It had just enough "falling apart goodness". The shrimp were cooked to perfection and a little Louisiana hot sauce and I was in "pants busting a button" heaven! I'll be back. Hey make sure you try out his Po Boy shop whilst you're at it. This establishment lives by it's motto "Dang That's good" for me. Thanks for reading!
(5)J K.
Glad to see this place open up along Central last year. You can tell by the menu they know how to do good NOLA. We sat on the front patio and I had the roast beef Po Boy for lunch from a friends recommendation and it was A+. I will go back for dinner certainly.
(5)Cherie H.
Outstanding! We came in at 5 til 9 (they close at 9) Melanie are waitress/bartender was great and made us feel welcome and didn't rush us at all. The food was great! New Orleans is my favorite place play. So I'm a hard person to please when it comes to Cajun food, but this was the best! I had the grouper with shrimp étouffée and my husband had the crab cake, we shared! Both dinners great, and than we had the pecan pie with ice cream for dessert. So good!!!
(5)Donald H.
Faux-Cajun....! They claim to be REAL cajun but they are not...! cajun-like is more the truth! Impolite wait staff, foul-mouthed wit-satff & snide wait-staff...! Will not be retunring to this place..!
(1)Bob B.
(3)Michelle G.
So so good! We ordered boudin balls, gumbo, pork and beans, jambalaya, and bread pudding and it was all amazing! The kid friendly options did not disappoint as well. Nice environment in a sweet hip location. We will return and I cannot wait to try crabcakes and crawfish!
(5)Dorene M.
(3)Lauren C.
(3)Thomas A.
(5)Shelley W.
(5)Virginia G.
(3)Chris S.
(4)H P.
(4)Ken L.
(4)John C.
(1)Jake G.
I love this place! Every time I come here the experience is a good one. The food is fantastic and I love the Andygator on tap. Recommendations: crab and corn bisque, chicken and andouille gumbo, blackened catfish, fried oysters and sampler platter.
(5)Manish B.
(2)Sonia O.
(5)Christina V.
(2)Eric R.
Great "New Orleans" themed restaurant. Great food choices, but the Sunday brunch with live jazz music and amazing Bloody Marys is where it's at.
(4)Shuné D.
Always a pleasure coming here. We have a wide selection of your favorite New Orleans classics and their own twist to New Orleans dishes. They also have Sunday brunch New Orleans style. The flavors are amazing! :-)
(5)Mary Beth W.
Take it from this girl, whose family hails from Naw'lins...this fare is SPOT ON, in terms of authenticity. I had the seafood gumbo and the shrimp and grits & my son had the shrimp po 'boy! We'll be back!
(4)Jesse C.
(5)Tiffany B.
Pete.
(3)Brett N.
(3)Pyra-Danny V.
I love Cajun food and thought RickyPs did a pretty good job... LIKE A RENOVATED 90s RESTAURANT but there's just something about this place that rubs me wrong. But it's very clean. I think it's the décor. During my past visits it has always seemed dark during dinner--and not in a sweet-romantic-loving kind of dark. The layout of the tables totally makes it feel old-school and somehow makes the place seem more cavernous than it is (and thus emptier when it's not busy) YUMMY YUMMY FOOD But the food--good job! It wasn't overly fantastic but seemed like home-cooking done well. I like the 'Combo Platter' for the choices you can add: Crab Cake (delicious and not too seasoned. Not too thick with a decent amount of Crab topped with a white sauce to balance out the spices.) Jambalaya (in between dry and moist. I'd eat this by itself) or Dirty Rice or Rice and Beans AND a choice of Tomato Salad, Creole Slaw, or Cajun Potato Salad (nicely seasoned and filling). OTHER THINGS LIKE SERVICE AND MENU Servers have been nice and accommodating. Friendly. The alcohol menu is a decent size and contained a few Craft but barely any locals.
(3)KC S.

Delicious. I usually say at most restaurants that I could make it the same at home. No way here, great meal!!

Great place! Food, service, atmosphere all great! I would definitely recommend Ricky Ps. They also offer a nice party room for a group gathering.

We went for lunch on Fat Tuesday. The food was good and authentic, had an Oster Poboy that was delicious. Give it a try!!!

Loved it! The food was fantastic amd the service was fast and friendly. We cant wait to go back and try more things.

Let me preface by saying I've never been to Nawlins. And I'm definitely not a Cajun food connoisseur, but the shit I ate was good. Now if I go to Nawlins is that shit gonna be better? Probably........possibly.........I don't know. But this shit? This shit was good. Bro tip: Tuesday special is shrimp n grits. I love me some shrimp n grits, u should to

LOVE the seafood jumbo and fresh oysters! Been here three times and never disappointed. We like to sit at the bar, the bartender is super cool and friendly.
(5)Shelle B.
As good as it gets!!! Seasoned to perfection and FRESH!!! I have eaten here many times and have yet to be disappointed. They have a loyal customer in me.

I love it! Décor inside is very fun. Service was friendly and food was great! We ordered sausage bites as an appetizer. Very good sausage! I had the corn and crab bisque. Soooo flavorful! Has a little kick to it, but I couldn't stop eating it! For my entrée I decided to try the jambalaya, which is tomato based. I thought it was awesome! And the serving was huge! I had enough leftovers for another serving the next day! Will definitely be back. I want to try their po boys and etouffee and their other soups!

My husband and I enjoyed this restaurant very much. To start, I preface that if you are looking of straight New Orleans cuisine, I think they do a good job at it. No this is not like being in New Orleans, but if anyone knows that cuisine, it's difficult. I started with the Corn and Crab Bisque, and my Husband had the Gumbo. Hands down, I loved the bisque, and will get some to go whenI am just passing by. It was rich and creamy, had a nice hint of heat, and lump crab meat. And my the gumbo was definitely another star choice on the menu. I had the Shrimp Étouffée. My only note on both the bisque and the étouffée, heavy dishes. The Shrimp Étouffée was excellent. I was very pleased. My husband had the Jambalaya, which he felt was okay, but did not stand up against the gumbo. The overall service was pleasant, for general restaurant service. Actually, they were accommodating in that my husband asked if anyone had an Apply charger, and they were able to bring us one to charge at the table, so the service was better than pleasant. Overall, I would suggest to give this place a try. It's not to say the other reviews that gave it lower ratings aren't valid, but I think this restaurant deserves a first hand look. What's also nice, is there is live music. So if you are into that, this is the place to go.

We ordered the shrimp étouffée and one of the po boys. The shrimp was great and I totally recommend it. My understanding is that it is a popular dish in general. The pricing is great too - $12 for the shrimp dish.

(4)E. D.
Waitress was great! I ordered the Boudin Balls which were great, although not what I would call authentic (I'm pretty sure these had cheese in them and having lived in NOLA, I know that authentic boudin balls don't have cheese)
