They have the best pizza! Our party ordered 3 pizzas. Best one was Gigi's special - thin crust with green peppers, mushrooms, sausage. Definitely going back there my next visit to st pete. Make sure you make a reservation as they get crowded fast!

Excellent thin-crust pizza at a great price. Good-looking restaurant with a great ambiance as well. Highly recommend it!

Two things really describe this place! Fun and great food! As you walk in there is a feeling of excitement at being in this place. Booths, tables, and the bar full of people enjoying one another's company while experiencing the warm inviting colors and décor that says: come, eat, and enjoy. There is an aromatic aspect that at once totally supersedes the menu with the question of "what is that" followed by the mild disappointment that it was not arriving at your table. The ordering experience of trying pick from the menu and watch other things go by is enticingly teasing but very delightful. The customer service was outstanding. There was about a 30 minute wait for a table and as things do happen we got briefly separated and reunited with the selfless assistance of a waiter who would wind up by chance being our server. Being separated I assumed we were meeting at the host station and as I missed my friends and did not hear or see their attempts to stop me I kept walking; I was followed by the waiter who took a moment out of his busy schedule to help out. This was highly appreciated and deserves recognition because he could have just stuck to his job and let it work itself out. Throughout the evening both at the bar and our table we experienced customer service that was outside the box extraordinary. The customer service at a minimum was prompt, efficient, and very customer oriented. We ordered the GiGi Special pizza topped with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, and green pepper along with a Caesar salad. The salad was extremely fresh with huge croutons. As we shared the salad we noted that it was so huge it appeared to be bottomless. It was big enough for four people perhaps with a little left over. The dressing was adequately mixed and provided a nice compliment without over powering it the salad. When the pizza we were delightfully reminded of the wonderful smells we had been experiencing. The server separated the slices and served us individually. Each topping could be tasted separately while providing a unified symphony of flavor dancing across a thin crispy crust. From the first bite you knew you would leave overstuffed because you would not stop until your body screamed at you. I am not sure about other nights, this being a Friday, they had a vocalist playing a keyboard that provided a delightful background. Many times during our meal the comment was "I love that song" or "I remember that one when..." The atmosphere was robust with what someone would expect for an evening out. This is place that should be experienced.

It took around 20 minutes to be seated (on a Sunday night), but there were plenty of families and spring breakers around, so it was not unexpected. Though it was a mood killer listening to some self-important (and quite drunk) vacationers on the patio complaining that the server spilled wine on one lady's $20 Old Navy capris, then insisting the manager take a huge chunk out their bill. (The drunk chick sloshed her own wine, for the record.) The patio and restaurant had an ample supply of funny old guys drinking and swapping fish stories ("I was driving a tank when I was 15!") that made for amusing background noise. The decor was dated, but with a few nice paintings. We had some trouble identifying which of the specials on the chalkboard belonged to which of the unappetizing (and dimly lit) pictures hanging near the ceiling. We had some advance warning (thanks to 4square) about the mediocre pasta, so we dodged that bullet, but we were starving by the time we got in and the menu said pizzas take 20 minutes. We ordered an appetizer, which turned out to be a mistake. It was garlic bread with melted cheese and marinara... tasted fine, nothing special... but it was a huge portion and came out minutes before the pizza. Better just to wait for the pizza. We ordered a large with green peppers and Italian sausage and one with chicken, bacon and spinach. Hunger may have influenced my taste buds a bit, but I thought they were terrific. Both were good the next morning too, straight out of the fridge. The sauce had a little spice, but it worked. The cheese didn't have much flavor on its own, but provided a good chewy backdrop to the sausage (which tasted fresh) and the good sized chunks of smoky bacon. The chicken was clearly fresh, cut from a breast, and in good sized pieces. AND, most important for me, they put the spinach on top of the cheese! It gets crispy and has an awesome taste and texture that way... spinach underneath cheese gets all soggy and tastes too "green".

Friendly wait staff. They have a lounge which had a bar, tables, and a jazz singer on Wednesday night. I ordered the ravioli combo both meat and cheese. Dinner was pretty good. I had to order a garden salad as an extra item but the meal did come with garlic bread which was nice. Plenty of parking and there is also outdoor seating. I would consider returning in the future

There definitely needs an updated review on here since most were on here from months ago to over a year ago. Some of the bad reviews made me very hesitant to pop in but we are so glad we did. We came in on a busy Friday night. There was a mix of families and date nights in abundance. The place was bustling as it is December and lots of people out for holiday events, etc... I called ahead to see if there was a wait. Great customer service on the phone first off which was a nice first impression. She said it was a 15 min wait but was happy to put my name down. When we arrived, we were down to less than 5 minutes. We were seating in a nice part of the restaurant and had an excellent waiter appointed to us. He made some suggestions and we ended up changing our minds like 3 times because everything sounded good. We decided after seeing a ton of pizzas around the room to try theirs. This was not my intention. We started with a martini for the mister which was strong, stuffed plump olives and a heck of a lot of gin. I ordered a house chianti which I was so worried because it was only $4 a glass. Totally a great table wine. I am glad I listened to him as he saved me a ton of money. We then ordered salads which were crisp, fresh and really yummy and out came a basket of butter drenched garlic bread. I am not complaining but oh holy arteries - yum! We decided on a pizza with eggplant, spinach & meatball slices. It was piping hot, crisp and thin which I like. Not a soggy bite anywhere. I think this may be my new favorite pizza in town. It was really really good. Enough that almost 4 days later, I am craving it! I will definitely go back. I also noticed they had a back area and had a big private party going on. The place gave us really great service even with all that going on. We had a movie to catch so we asked to box up our pizza. I told him I had a refridge bag in my trunk. The waiter was kind enough to come out with a triple lined bag full of ice to keep our pizza fresh. The weather was chilly that night so I wasn't too worried but it was wonderful of him to do so. The old negative reviews were when they first opened. I think maybe they worked out their kinks because we had a fantastic experience. I will come back for traditional items and report back.

More like 3.5 stars, but Yelp hasn't come around with the half-point system yet. Anyway, been here twice. First time I got lasagna and it was pretty good (mine is better, as usual). Second time I got the pizza. Again, pretty good, but I've had better. What made it fun the first time was that there was a DJ there and a plethora of old people dancing to hip hop. Now that's entertainment.

We went on a Sunday night and were seated right away. Our waiter was very polite and brought out each course in a timely manor. I had the calamari for an appetizer and it was cooked perfectly, not like rubber. My Fiance had one of their specials, steak and shrimp. He is very picky about how his steak is cooked and his plate was clean with no complaints! And my pasta was delicious. Oh and the sangria is excellent!!! I really appreciated the waiter taking the time to talk to us and the owner walking around at the beginning and end of the meal to also get to know us. It was a great over all experience.

Food: 4 stars Service: 0-1 stars Overall: 2 stars My boyfriend and I got seated as soon as we entered the restaurant. However, our waiter did not come to our table until 15-20 minutes later. The restaurant was fairly busy so I was understanding of the delay. When our waiter finally came, he was basically rushing us to give him our drink orders and didn't really suggest much. After that we waited another 10 minutes to even get a glass of water and our other drinks. We were sitting near the kitchen and I was able to see where our waiter was wasting much of his time. He was just standing around talking to other waiters and not tending any of his tables. Our appetizer came in about an hour after arriving to the restaurant. Then our waiter finally decided to bring us bread (which is normally given when you arrive to the restaurant) and our food came out about 30 minutes later. Overall it took us 2 hours for a meal that should have been no more than 45 minutes. I would go back for the food but was extremely disappointed with the service.

I have been enjoying Gigis Italian Restaurants for many years and been going to their 4th street location since it opened. I have never had a bad meal there as the menu offers a great selection on not only Italian food and pizza but some excellent Continental fare, seafood and steaks. I am a retired international restaurant executive and traveled all over the world. I would rate Gigis pizza being in the top 5% of all the pizzas I have had. I seen a comment from Virginia stating her pizza was cold. Really do not know how that could happen when I see where Gigis pizza is baked in a 500 degree stone oven. But everyone has their opinion and perception. I can only relate to the over 200 pizzas I have enjoyed there, everyone perfect. Oh and the staff Very professional in uniforms that are attractive as the staff themselves. They are well trained and make you feel accepted and special. l really enjoy Gigis Wednesday night two for one wine night (glass or bottle) There was a great wine club there that moved for time demands. It was great and I hope they come back. Great Food, Super People, Fantastic entertainment and comfortable attractive atmosphere.

Wednesday is half price wine night.....enough said. :) I LOVE their eggplant parm! Their caprese "salad" is good....tomato and mozz cheese....yum! Their bread is so-so. I always get their eggplant parm so I can't really comment on other dishes. I have sat outside and gotten eaten alive by some biting insect so we sit inside now. It's never super busy and you get your food pretty quickly. I'm not too fussy about italian food...I think it's consistently good for the dish I order. I'll be back for sure....on a Wednesday! ;)

I would only recommend this place for someone who is on doctors orders to only eat bland, tasteless food....Or even for someone who has never tried Italian cuisine before. My advice is to eat here first, then perhaps go to Bella's in soho tampa to see what Italian food should taste like. The $5.95 side salad consisted of about two bites worth of Romaine lettuce that tasted like it had not been washed first, and maybe two small tomatoes. It should have been priced at $1. The Margarita pizza was a conflict, the dough on the bottom was burnt yet the dough on the center was undercooked and soggy. Don't know how they pulled that one off.

Like the outside patio and casual pace of the place, but the entrees are just average and the pizza is no where close to the NY pizza grew up with-crust was most bland taste I have experienced.

Heres the comments I sent to GiGis directly: "We ate at GiGis for the first time the eve of 11/30/13 because a friend who was in town from NY state wanted to eat here as he used to frequent the old Pasadena location years ago when he lived here. My fiancee ordered Lasagna. I sampled it. Our conclusion? It wasn't AS GOOD as C.D. Romas , was $2 MORE than CDs AND she got no salad with her meal ! For $15 you cant even offer a dinner salad? WOW! ..and while the garlic bread was ok, the waitress only brought 6 small pieces and never asked us if we wanted more! Plus CD Romas parmesan breadsticks are better and there more of them. My friend and I shared a 'giant' pizza. It was good..but it wasn't all that big..and certainly no better than CD Romas or many other places in ST. Pete ..and at a whopping price of $26 with only 5 toppings ..I WONT be coming back ! Wow..you guys have NYC prices with very average quality and portions that can be found in many St. Pete Italian restaurants at way lower prices!

The best chicken wings in town!! Wouldn't have expected it from an Italian joint. Love the sangria too!

  • S R.

My rating is based only on their pizza, nothing else. Thin charred crust, tangy sauce, and great pepperoni. If you favor other styles of pizza, you just won't get it. Must dine in and get it right out of the oven. Take out is a no-no... sitting in a box for more than a minute or two does something unholy to the crust and ruins the experience. Can't comment on any other menu items, because I go here for the afore mentioned pie, and that's it.

  • Just Me E.

I've been on a search for good thin-crust pizza, and so far Gigi's sits atop the heap. That's not to say that the place gives a good pizzagasm, but it's the best so far, even if it's a bit Jekyll and Hyde. The outer ring of the pizza is always nice and crispy with a few of those crust bubbles that are m-m-good. The ingredients complement each other perfectly. Then comes the center....soggy and bogged down with cheese and sauce that overpowers the pie. I'm not a fan of folded NY-style grease shingles, so the promising start finished limply. Other items I've had include ravioli, fried green beans, and meatballs. All were exactly what one would expect from a traditional style Italian place, and were very satisfying. Dinners start with a complimentary basket of garlic bread. I thought they'd have a better draught beer selection, but it's pretty slim pickins. Other cocktails I've had are average. Atmosphere is cozy-clubby, and prices are moderate. If one is inclined to eat before 6, there are some attractive early bird specials worth checking out.

ok..after our most recent visit they go back up to 4 stars. Had an antipasto salad that was huge, enough for 2 with leftovers and really good and fresh! Pizza came out perfect..no burnt crust..no mistakes. I do not like the servers pouring leftover wine from one glass into a fresh glass whether or not it's the same vintage,. Just not cool with me. Other then that, I like it here. we'll be back

This is a great restaurant for a date night. My husband and I are big fans of the ambience. We start most of our meals here with small salads, which are the perfect size and delicious. I can highly recommend the Steak Bites as an appetizer. We usually end up getting the pizza, which is fantastic. The garlic bread is so-so, a bit on the greasy side. They offer live entertainment. On Wednesdays wine is half off, and the early bird dinners are a great deal.

The food here was NOT good. It was extremely bland and not well prepared. My fettucine alfredo was a goppy gooey mess, all stuck together and glutenous tasting. The server wasn't much better. He was a bit short with us and kept sticking his arm in peoples' faces when placing dishes on the table (waiter 101 anyone?). I was offered a refill on my coke and was then charged for two cokes, something I haven't experienced in a full service restaurant before. The decor was extremely outdated and despite the restaurant being quite empty, our party of 7 were stuck at a very small table. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I hate giving 1 star reviews, but it simply must be done! I went here for a work/holiday/lunch/party and it was horrendous on all counts. I assure you I've been avoiding this for quite some time, but I need to warn fellow Yelpers of this incident and hopefully save them from the same fate. We had a reservation and were seated promptly, but this was the last good thing that happened. We ordered three calamari and only two ever came out. Food was delivered in increments instead of all at a once and my dish, as well as my coworker's, came AFTER most of the party had eaten and left already. Our server never remembered to fill our drinks, forgot about salads that were ordered... we even had to remind her that the two of us had NOT gotten our food nearly an hour after everyone else did. Then, when my food did come out, the stuffed shells were frozen in the center. When we told the server about it, she just looked perplexed, failed to apologize and said "what would you like me to do with it?" We spoke to the manager who did nothing but remove it from our check. One coworker found PLASTIC in her spaghetti and most people left their dish half eaten. Another coworker saw cockroaches running around the bathroom floor. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had a restaurant in my life and I don't want a gift card or anything that would even hint at me walking back through those front doors again.

We weren't planning on Italian, but when I saw that old familiar sign out front I was pleasantly surprised that Gigi's now had a location in St. Petersburg! We ordered the baked ziti & veal saltimbocca and both were fantastic. The restaurant is nicely lit and spacious. We had a great meal, great service and we will definitely be back (all the way from Spring Hill).

I went to GiGis cause I was starving after being at Venus nail shop next door forever (they do a good job though). I googled their menu while my nails were drying and saw they had a whole wheat low carb pizza. I'm training for a fitness show and I get one cheat meal a week so I thought low carb pizza would be perfect and not do too much damage to my waistline. It's an Italian restaurant, dark, with a bar area that has TVs, main dining area and outside patio. I decided last minute to go ahead and sit down to eat instead of getting my pizza to go. I forgot I had my nail shop flip flops on so I quickly changed shoes in bathroom lol. My server was really pleasant, and as soon as I she greeted me I told her I was ready to order. I got the low carb pizza which starts off as a white pizza and you add toppings, 1.79 each so I had to really think about what I absolutely had to have on my pizza without spending $20!. The pizza came out pretty quick and I just stared at how small it was...I was hungry and my inner fat girl said" what?! thats it!?! Well even though it was small the pizza was good, so fresh, ricotta, chicken, spinach, peppers, thin crust, really tasty! I chewed each pizza slice very slowly because I was already half way through it in 3 minutes lol. Atmosphere -a lot of older (50 and better)people chatting and drinking wine. My pizza was good but for $14, I wanted more.

Best Pizza I have ever had. I love this place. Living in the Philly area and working in New York I can access a vast selection of mighty fine pizza but the Gigis pizza keeps calling me back to Florida for a few rays and a nice taste treat. So good you will want to store some extras to take home with you, I always do. Save me a seat I will be back very soon.

I was a little weary about this place because the reviews aren't great, but I was pleasantly surprised. To start, garlic bread is served as you await the food. I loved chewing the delicious little bread pieces, even as the butter dripped from my mouth ensuring a heart attack. The sangria is great. The wine is evident in it, and the fruit is just right. I had a pretty basic meal, chicken Parmesan and spaghetti in meat sauce. It's been years since I have eaten spaghetti, but I'm glad I like Gigi's reintroduce me. So tasty! I could've done without the live music, and my waitress was a mess. She couldn't answer any questions as she'd never tasted the food. However, the meal was so good that I still give it 4 stars.

OMG never go here!!! To be fair the pizza was good, but they dont even know what is on their menu. We ordered bolognese pasta. What came out was canned red sauce, still smelled tinny, with no herbs (blah) but worse, no meat. The menu says (and any idiot knows) Bolognese (meat sauce) meaning there is meat in it. We let the waitress know there had been a mistake. She couldnt have been over 21 and was far too busy to help us. She condescendingly explained that Bolognese is a "tomato based" sauce and that was the correct dish we ordered. She didnt come back. By the end of the meal we ate everthing but the pasta dish remained untouched. She asked if we were done and removed it. Then she brought the bill, to include full charge for Bolognese pasta (which is more expensive than basic sauce). I will never go within a mile of this place again. My dinner guest lived in Italy and speaks italian, I think he knows what Bolognese is. Even if it was what was ordered, there is no Italian "cooking" going on here. I can dump a can of sauce over noodles at home that taste better.

We came here late on a Sunday evening, starving and craving Italian food. Id like to highlight that we came in about 9:30 when they close at 10 and no one made a fuss of any sort, very friendly and accommodating which I appreciate as I was once in the service industry and know how some people can get a chip on their shoulders about late comers. Ordered wine, salad, the pasta combo (which is genius) and a pizza. All cooked to perfection! We were very satisfied and very full. Great find, great food, will def be back!

Order a Yankee crust pizza!! So yummy!!! I love absolutely everything on their menu. My family has been eating at GiGi's for over 30+ years--we always went to the Pasadena location. Steve one of the owners is an awesome guy too!! You won't regret trying this place!!

I ordered chicken piccata and it came out looking not even cooked. Also the calamari sauce was so thick I couldnt even get sauce to stick on it. The service was horrible. We waited 30 min to receive our entrees. The only thing good about this place was the galic bread! Never going again!

I had heard good things about Gigi's, and I also love trying local restaurants that are not a chain, but after spending nearly $40 for dinner for two (includes hostess tip), I needed to share my experience. We decided to get take out as we were craving a big Italian style meal at home. Walking in to pick up our food, I noticed a bad fish odor (and it made me think of a review I read about how the customer wished whatever he was smelling was going to end up on his plate. I hoped not!) So, not a good first impression. I ordered the pasta combo ( at $16.3). It had a stuffed shell, a single piece of eggplant parm, a small meatball, and what was supposed to be a portion of lasagne all swimming in ladles of red sauce. The full size portion of lasagne (at $14.9) looked more promising. I think an Italian restaurant can honestly be judged on the quality of their meatballs and sauce alone and both were lacking. The meatball was a small, tough ball of granular meat that I took one bite of and unwillingly swallowed. The sauce was just OK, but on the acid side with a slight metallic tang. The eggplant was tasty but there was one very small piece. The shell was overcooked, bland ricotta oozing out. . I could not identify the lasagne but found a few pieces of noodle and some meat bits somewhere in the sauce. The full portion of lasagne managed a 'I've had worse, it's edible' comment from my fiancee. He also noted the meat was granular and that there was more noodles than anything else. The meal was served with Italian garlic bread. I was so hoping for a nice crusty bread I could use to sop up the sauce with. Unfortunately, it was a gummy, white loaf type bread with garlicky butter sloshed over it. Very low quality and quite unappetizing. No salad came with our entrees. Overall, this was a very disappointing meal..at what I think is a hefty price for what was served.

We went here for dinner with my in-laws while in town for the holidays. It was a Monday night and not terribly busy. The food was good but the service was utterly horrible. Our server blamed the bartender. That's classy. On top of the dismal service there was also a bug in my wine glass. We usually go to Cafe Cibo when we visit, but the in-laws wanted to take us to Gigi's for something different. I definitely wish we had stuck to Cafe Cibo.

my honey and i have really distanced our self for awhile we found the quality was just not there. They other night we went in (although i did not write reviews we were in here about 3 nights a week).. i got the wedge salad it was perfect - i think the only thing i would do different is get the dressing on the side. Honey got the new starter shrimp - spicy it must have been good because he was sweating lol He got the wings too garlic bourbon which he tried two didnt really like them .. still love the fire pit and wine!!!

I'm super picky with my pizza crust, and I absolutely love GiGi's thin crust. You can actually taste the sauce and the toppings, not just bread and more chewy bread! With that said, I do wish they were less stingy with the toppings. For $3 each, I was hoping for more than a sad, lonely, singular slice of tomato per slice. There's a great variety to choose from and they're quite fresh, but they were few and far between on the actual pizza itself!

Friends and I needed a place to celebrate and watch a Bama game at the same time. Gigi's gave us the pizza some wanted, the scallops others craved, the drinks to get our buzz on - all while sitting at the bar with attentive, friendly staff and a few screens to watch while cheering Roll Tide! We also finished off with a large, fudgy slice of chocolate chocolate chip cake. (98% sure this came out of the freezer). It was Saturday night, and not too busy. Very cleared out by 10:30pm. Pretty but relaxed.

I've frequented Gigi's in South Pasadena since I was a little kid back in the 80s. However, this was my first visit to the 4th St. location. Right away I was pleased as a staff member (seemed to look like as Agee maybe?) opened the door and welcomed us with a very friendly smile and immediately directed us to our table towards the back since some of our large party was already here. Our server immediately took our drink orders and without asking took each of our names as to arrange for separate checks. Wednesdays are half off wine and I was loving my $2.50 glass of white sangria. I mean, you can't get a diet coke at a restaurant for less than that! The sangria was light and refreshing and came with fresh fruit garnish of lime, lemon, orange and a cherry. The early bird specials are awesome with a large variety of meals to choose from that include garlic bread and side salad. (All $10). The Italian dressing on my salad was homemade and he perfect combo of vinegar, oil, and spices. There was also endless hot, buttery garlic bread that none of us could seem to get enough of. My entree of stuffed shells and meatball was spot on and delicious! Piping hot and authentic Italian flavor! Service was great! Our server was polite, knowledgable and managed our loud, large group of girls with ease. The manager even stopped by to check on our meal. The rest of the restaurant seemed to be booming with business and the atmosphere was perfect for our girls night! Hearing that the South Pasadena location closed this week was disappointing, but hopefully this location will continue to thrive for the Gigi's family!

I thought it was good. White pizza is really good. Wings aren't bad. I just think it's a bit pricey, and my boyfriend got the chicken parm and penne and he thought the portions was too small for the price. Would come back for the pizza though.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
