Fantastic Chicago beef sandwiches. I have been to Chicago 3 times and get Beef's every time I go. Here in Sarasota I am brought back to Chicago every time I go to Tony's. Don't miss this one guys, best beef around.

A real gem. Authentic Chicago food. Traditional Chicago dogs including poppy seed buns and frankfurters with real casings that snap when you bite into them. Very good Italian beef sandwich -and I've eaten at Al's #1 in Chicago. Right up there. Friendly owners.

Solid food at a cheap price. French bread is awesome and had a bite of their Italian beef sandwich with provolone cheese and it was delicious. Simple, and good

Really great food, fast service. Had the roast beef sandwich and it was so good. Feels like I'm back home in Chicago. Can't wait to go back to try other items on the menu!

Excellent food.. great prices. Very little seating room. Also while we were eating they decided to clean the grill or something and the smell was atrocious. Also when we walked in we really didn't know what to do and no one told us anything. But it is just a down to earth place to go with excellent food. Just order from the bar and find a seat (if you can)!! Will be back...

we have tried almost every highly rated beef in chicagoland area during our lifetime there and this beef with giardinara is one of the best we have every had. reason being: lots of meat, peppers cut just right, my favorite bread, and PERFECTLY seasoned. we now live in Tarpon Springs and we will be coming down to eat here and at Sarasota Brewery at every opportunity.

Tony's is one of the best little places for non-nonsense food ANYWHERE. For the quality and quantity, the prices are a STEAL (burger and fries or Italian beef and fries for under $10!!!). Although I'm not a fan of Italian beef sandwiches in general, my husband loves theirs. He gets it dipped in the au jus and loaded with hot peppers. (I've tried it, and sadly, am still not a fan.) My love of Tony's isn't its Chicago-centered fare (hypocrisy, right?), in fact, I've yet to try the hot dogs and wasn't thrilled with the sausage (but, hey, I'm not from Chicago, so maybe I'm missing something...), however, I adore their burgers more than anything. And let me say that we'd been to every burger joint in town trying to determine the best--guess what? Tony's blows away everyone. Not kidding--Square 1, Five Guys, Cheeburger Cheeburger, Shakespeare's, Patrick's, etc.--we used to think we knew the best spots until coming here. Now we don't go anywhere else for burgers. They're as good as when you cook 'em yourself on the grill--and the regular size one (which is easily 1/3 lb) is $3.50! The fries? YUM. They're blanched in vinegar for 24hrs and are by far the best I've had *in my life*! Be warned, though, the interior of Tony's is the pits. Exceptionally tiny space with seating at bar areas back-to-back---and that seating is uncomfortable (backless bar stools) and paired with inadequately sized eating areas. There's no *decor* to speak of except for tributes to Chicago sports teams plastering the walls. Plus, in summertime, it's unbearably hot b/c the grills are right there in that one tiny area. But none of that stops us. We're there at least twice a month because the food's just that outstanding. For night-owls like us, it's also open til 11 p.m. on weekends. Important note: CASH ONLY!

Alright, I admit it... I'm a hot dog snob. Add that I'm from Chicago and you've got a deadly combo! Tony's serves up TRUE Chicago dogs, and they're delicious. This place didn't disappoint. Their fresh cut french fries are killer! They're SO tasty. Their Italian beef sandwiches are good, but their hot dogs are better. By the the best hot dog you'll get in Sarasota! I was hooked on this place the minute I tasted the food. I was even more thrilled to find that every single person that works there is very friendly! We chit chatted about Chicago, Sarasota, dogs, baseball... just some great friendly conversation to go with some delicious eats! You can't get anything better than good food and great service. The atmosphere is very cute, too. Pictures of anything and everything Chicago are all over the walls -- even a White Sox picture here and there (they're huge Cubs fans...they're only downfall!) I can't wait to go back and feel like I'm back home in Chicago for a meal! Also, they own Sarasota Brewing Company (a bar just a couple doors down that serves up some food too) and gave me some free drink tickets and coupons. I was super psyched and I plan on hitting it up next time I'm in Sarasota!

These fries are amazing. I had the fish. Really great and fresh. My husband got the burger, which was also awesome. I love yelp. I would never have found this place. Also liked the table outside. Super friendly staff. Brought a bucket of ice water out for the dog, which was very kind and thoughtful.

My girlfriend and I found this place on...what else? YELP!! (as always, when out of town!) We were in the mood for something quick, not super huge but instead one those "tide you over" meals. We settled on Tony's Chicago Beef Company because we'd seen on Yelp how so many people loved their dogs and knew a dog and a few fries wouldn't fill us up completely. All parties were in agreement that It had been a long time since we'd had a really good hot dog .Off we went to Tony's. Just near the southern bridge from the mainland to Siesta Key over at the beginning of Gulf Gate Estates lie a number of businesses - amongst them is Tony's. It doesn't look like much from the outside, as its packed into a small strip mall - but it's always what's on the inside that counts! Once inside, the overwhelmingly and delightfully familiar aromas from childhood hit you like a freight train... a yummy, yummy freight train made of pork and goodness. There are few tables at Tony's - enough room for a bar on the long wall and a bar facing the kitchen...where Tony and his crew are hard at work serving up what many consider to be the most authentic Chicago dogs in the area. Having never been to Chicago myself, I offer nothing as to what "Chicago dogs" are supposed to taste like. All I know is - what I ordered - a regular Tony's hot dog - was amazing! What's even more amazing is - this happened to be the zenith of my french fry eating moments - I really was served the best french fries of my entire life. They were amazing. On the counter I noticed the tub of freshly cut potatoes that they stated were cut in-house every day from - imagine - real potatoes. I watched them fry them in liquid hot magma... and then sprinkle on what could only be their secret spice blend... and then completely rock my face off with those french fries. I wound up going back again in 3 days time for more of those damn fries. Just don't get addicted to them, people - there's no rehabilitation program for this yet and I can't guarantee you won't get hooked on Tony's fries. I'm just saying... I tried the entree my girlfriend ordered, the Italian Beef - which she was raving about and I thought was pretty darn good too. Everyone in our party thought the food was amazing and talked about wanting to come back again while on the week long vacation. The people at Tony's are very friendly and are honest and seem to have a true passion for serving good quality, fresh food at great prices. They not only have the recipe for awesome food - but also for success. Tony is working so hard behind the counter that he often doesn't have time to slow down for anything - but his concentration on quality really shows in his food. Well done Tony - we really enjoyed it! I recommend that anyone try this place for killer hot dogs, Chicago-style or otherwise - and potentially the best french fries of your life!!! Perfection from a potato and delight from a dog!!

I don't think I tasted hot dogs this good even when I lived in Chicago!!!! Without a doubt, absolutely, positively, the best Chicago style hot dog in Sarasota, bar none. There's a couple of competitors (Doggin It/Hot Diggity Dog/The new guy on 41) that are Gary, Indiana to Tony's Chicago. And that place outside of Home Depot that attempts to make a Chicago Dog?? Let's just say that if the Blues Mobile came in the middle of the night and hooked up to the trailer hitch on that joint and threw it off the Ringling Bridge, nobody would give a rat's ass. Their prices are great, too. Chicago Dog, fresh cut fries, and a soda for $5...you can't beat it.

Tony's Chicago Beef company in Sarasota tastes like they boxed up a beef place from the south side of Chicago and transported it to Gulf Gate. It is delicious. I certainly recommend the combo: Italian Beef and Sausage on a sammich. Can't beat it! Tony's is also the only place in Florida I have seen Jay's chips...all that is missing is Old Style Beer! The hot dogs, as Rachel said, are the best you will find in Sarasota, and actually the best I have had in Florida. The all-beef vienna hot dogs come with some really good fresh cut fries, too. You have to get the hot dog fully loaded, Chicago style, without ketchup, of course! haha The best review came from my father. When he came to visit from Chicago, he said that the Italian beef was not only right up there with anything he has eaten at a beef place in Chicago, but also just as good as his own recipe! This man is critical of his Italian beef, and he really enjoyed it.

One of those places that you hope never goes out of business. It took a while but they PERFECTED their fries and their Chicago Dogs are amazing. And cheap too! (don't change that!) It has a very neighborhood feel to it and everyone is always very nice no matter how busy they are. Great place

Italian Beef sandwich: TO DIE FOR. The first time I ate a real Italian Beef sandwich in Chicago, I felt like I had found my new religion. Living in Southwest Florida, I have been attempting to recreate the feeling. Some places were pretty good, others were mediocre. Tony's is the real deal. The sandwich (with sweet and hot peppers, regular gravy/juiciness) gets 5 stars. The cheese fries could have used more cheese, but were still fantastic; we watched them preparing the fresh cut fries in front of us and it was magical. The salads come from the Sarasota Brewing Company so they have to be delivered (I doubt many people go in there and get salads, but my boyfriend is a vegetarian)... his didn't come with very much dressing but it was still good (topped with walnuts and blue cheese). Definitely go, and definitely get the Italian Beef.

I found this little gem on my way to taste the hottest wings at Munchies 420 cafe. It is located a couple of doors down from Munchies around this kind of nightlife popping area. They have excellent Chicago style food. The people that worked there are from Chicago and friendly too. They took a picture of me and my friends for us while we ate their delicious food. Only negative about this place was that they did not accept credit cards. Everything else was great. They are open late and reasonably priced. I am very glad I found this place and I know where to go whenever I am in Sarasota again.

Been to Tony's numerous times over the past 2 years. The beef...great...the sausage....even better (if possible)...the people are great as well. I have been to Chicago about 20 times in the last 10 years so I know these guys do it right. The Chicago dog there is probably the best you will get out of Chicago!

Just go. Every once in a while you truly find a simple perfect place. When I went two younger guys behind the counter couldn't have been nicer. Had a beef with mozzarella...skipped the fires and peppers. I really wanted to taste the sandy. It was a terrific decision. Even the bread had some body, something unusual outside of Brooklyn or Chicago. I can't compare this to a Chicago beef, never had one ... But this place is a hands down winner. In case you missed it .. Just go.

Tonys Italian Beef is certainly my answer to prayer for some good Chicago style food!! The Hotdogs and Beefs are absolutely fabulous!! Now if I could only find some Chicago style pizza....

Tony's was the dining highlight pf our week at Siesta Key. Five great lunches in six days. We are hooked. The combination sandwich with sweet, hot and giardiniera was as good as any in Chicago. Authentic Chicago dogs, great fries. All that was missing was a slice of Portillo's chocolate cake for dessert.

Listen to me when I tell you....this place it legit!!!! How do I know? Because I was born & raised in Chicago. I know authentic Italian beef & cheese fries when I taste them. I'm so happy I finally made it over to Tony's. I ordered an Italian beef extra dry w/sweet & hot pepper w/a cheese fry. Now let me talk about how you could watch the guy slicing the beef & how another guy was cutting potatoes for the fresh cut French fries. FRESH CUT FRENCH FRIES w/cheese! FRESH CUT FRENCH FRIES!!! Both were delicious & "Chicago"-style! This is place is very similar to a hotdog stand in Chicago with sports decor. It's a hotdog stand so don't go expecting anything more than great food. The owners are actually from Chicago (not Minnesota, not Indiana, not the suburbs...from CHICAGO; their Cubs fans...LOL). It was a drive & slightly overpriced (comparing to what I'd pay in Chicago) but it was totally worth it. At last Tony's, my love, I've found you! I can't wait to return.

Chicago style italian beef, hot dogs, and polish at its finest. Finally I have found what I am looking for. I have tried italian beef's at two other places only in FL since I have moved here. I have been greatly disappointed. No disappointment here whatsoever. I would laugh at those people making those groaning noises when they eat. Guess what? That was me. I swear I couldn't even breath. We ordered italian beef sandwiches, got a basket of fresh cut fries thanks to Yelp check in, a side of dipping cheese, and a chicago hot dog. I felt so at home at this place with all of the Chicago memorabilia. I swear I was flashing back to when I was a little kid, and the stuff wasn't a big deal to me. I'll be back here, and if you are dying for some Chicago food that is dead on, perfect perfect, delicious to the max, come here. Please note, this is not Chicago style pizza, this is italian beef and hot dogs, best ever. They now also have two locations in Sarasota. I'll be back for sure. I've also been to another Chicago style local Sarasota type chain, and didn't like it at all.

Real Chicago style food - hot dogs, Polish sausage, Chicago Italian beef sandwiches, and more. All grilled fresh with anything you wish on them. The restaurant is small, with counter seating and a few tables. The walls are decorated with Chicago memorabilia. Special kudos go to the owner Grazia, a very friendly presence who makes any visit that much better when she's there.

Excellent Chicago Beef. I got mine w hot vegetables and side of au jus for dipping. They give you a lot of meat. Their fries were good, crispy and soft at the same time. There's no air conditioner, they left the door open. Its August! But it wasn't too hot. Forget ice water. They don't have ice. But I would eat there again definitely.

The Italian Beef and Chili Cheese Fries at Tony's Chicago Beef Company are delicious. The Italian Beef is a must try with tender beef on French bread that has been soaked in the juices of the meat. Get the sandwich with peppers that add a nice kick and flavor. The Chili Cheese fries were also delicious and covered in a generous portion of meaty chili and cheese.

This place is legit! You gotta go. Great service. Tonight had 2 Chicago Dogs, 2 Roast Beef Sammiches, 1 Bacon Burger with a Basket of "Chip Truck" style fries. Just so you know in case u care, I didn't eat all of the above as I shared with my family. Soooo goood!! I got the roast beef with Hot Peppers and Mozzarella cheese. Wow! Don't forget the Au Jus for dipping! Cool Nostalgic place especially if you love Chicago sports. 4 thumbs up from this house.

We were looking for a quick bite on a Friday night and found Tony's via recommendations on Yelp. What we were looking for was a great burger..... We split a burger and cheese fries which were really good. The burger was much better than 5 guys, in my opinion. We also split an Italian Beef.... having never been to the great city of Chicago (other than a drive through), I had never heard of an Italian Beef. Not one to pass up on anything deemed Italian (I grew up in Rhode Island, heavily settled with Italian Immigrants, and restaurants), we decided to split an Italian Beef. I was pleasantly surprised with the sheer deliciousness of the Italian Beef.... I had it with the hot peppers and provolone - the peppers weren't too spicy, and had just enough "zing". We also ordered a couple of Berghoff Ales which were a bit heavy sans food, but as soon as we started eating, the Ale was delicious.

2nd helping review. Have gone to the Southgate location 2X and same great quality as the Gulf Gate location. The beef is spot on - right level of spice, good bread, and great au jus. Its difficult to pass up the beef, but the Maxwell St. Polish is very good. Fries are crisp and hot. One order is enough for two persons. I've lived in SRQ for 21 years (from Chgo) and there is NO other place within 50 miles that comes even close. Other places may say they have Chicago style this or that, but it ain't happenin'. GO TO TONY'S!

So I am in Sarasota Florida and I'm eating one of the best beef sandwiches outside of Chicago? Are you fo'real? Ahh yeah! Great bread, the beef was great, ordered it juicy with sweet peppers, just like back home. No disappointment here people. We also got a Chicago style dog and a Combo sandwich. All top-notch, right from Chicago! You got to go here. You can also get a free order of fries if you mention the Yelp ad! This is just like a Chicago hot dog spot... couple of tables, couple seats at the bar. Awesome!

Went there right before closing time. Two dudes not very customer friendly. Italian beef sucked and tasted like it was made half assed. I get the fact they want to go home but no need to make sub par food. Hurts your reputation. Wont be back.

As a native Chicagoan myself I couldn't be more pleased to find this place. The fries and Italian beef are right up there with Portillos and the atmosphere leaves one feeling like it is Portage Park rather than Gulf Gate. They even have Berghoff beer!

Great hot dogs and fries, simple no nonsense. Get in eat your awesome hotdog and get out. Favorite spot when running errands around town.

Best Italian Beef in Chicagoland! Tender, juicy, never tough. Delicious flavor, spiced just right. Get it topped with red sauce, sweet peppers and mozzarella! Hand cut French fries are also delicious! RC soda products...need to get Pepsi here

Tony's is the quintessential Chicago style hot dog place. They run a great, clean operation and they have the best hot dogs in town. I had a hot dog with the works, fries, and a tamale. Sublime is the only description for this dog. The hot dogs have a skin, so you get that bite which shows a high quality product. The fries are the best as they are fresh cut, not frozen. My wife had the hamburger, and she said it's much better than 5-Guys burger and was a fraction of the cost. For both of us to eat a very filling lunch cost $12.93 with drinks. Tony's is easy on the pocket book, has awesome food, and the owner and staff is very friendly. Next time I go I'm getting the Italian beef as it looked out of this world.

A nice oasis for those getting homesick for a good dog or beef after a few weeks on the beach. I mean how much grouper can you eat? Good job on the fries, too. Place could use a little spruce up and a few more tables, but worth a visit!

Had a burger with fries. Burger was cooked too well...was not asked how I liked it..this may be a local food law that they must cook all burgers well. Fries were nothing special. Cool ambiance. Door was left open, so it felt kind of hot in there on a 90 degree day.

Tony is from the old Chicago neighborhoods were there were many good beef & hot dog stands. This place could be across from Wrigley and do great. Excellent beef. Properly sliced. Good bread, juice. Hotdogs & fries just like home. We go here every time we're in town. Tony from Chicago.

REALLY 3.5 STARS Regional favorites are undeniable; In Cincinnati they love their cinnamon loaded Chili over pasta, everybody from New Orleans has their favorite Gumbo, Philadelphia knows its Cheesesteaks and Hoagies, while Chicago devours Hot Dawgs and Italian Beef sandwiches. You know and generally love what you where brought up with. My wife and I learned this lesson years ago when we lovingly transported Philadelphia Hoagies to DC anticipating the feast the entire trip. We shared this manna (secretly begrudgingly) with neighbors from California. Their under whelmed reaction; "Gee, its okay!" Loved the fact this place is family run, decorated with all things Chicago, fast service - order at the counter and find a seat, and reasonable pricing. We each had an Italian Beef sandwich ($5.89) loaded with tender meat and wet from au jus, with sweet peppers. We finished every bite as it was filling and delicious. But we didn't grow up in Chicago or anywhere near and to us it was just a good meal - not a happening as I'm sure it is for those that grew up with this local favorite. Their hand cut fries ($1.99) with just a bit of skin left on were outstanding, hot crisp and creamy all at the same time. They have a limited menu including the famous Chicago Dogs (I do love them, and that will be next time) burgers, salads, chili, and a selection of cold sandwiches. I can't knock this place as what we had was high quality, prepared by people that care. As far as the Italian Beef, as my ex neighbor said: "Gee, its okay!"

best hot dogs and sausages in sarasota. also hand cut french fries that are the best. cozy little place with all chicago memorabilia. you just cant beat tony's! on this occasion i had the maxwell st with chili cheese fries and ibc root beer. dog is done authentic to 1800's maxwell st in chicago. all the toppings i wanted. it was superb.

BEST BEEF IN FLORIDA. Soon after Tony's opened almost six years ago, I came in and ordered a Beef. I have been hooked ever since. The sandwich is always hot and fresh, filling, and absolutely delicious. couldn't even take a picture because I glommed it down so fast. Get it wet and with hots and sweets. No one else in town compares. I can't wait for your new location to open on Siesta Drive!

This place is amazing. I own a business in gulfgate and eat here regularly and Tony and his wife and family work their butts off to provide fast fresh food...at a great price.

Delicious food. The only place to order a chicago dog in Sarasota. We frequent West End pub during college football season and they're kind enough to run our orders over. Fries are so good and they give you a huge helping!

Was not impressed at all. Was hoping that with a recommendation from a friend and all the positive reviews, I'd have a good, authentic, Italian beef experience...not the case. The meat was dry and tasteless and the bun turned out to be extremely soggy. Too bad.

I had the Belushi Burger: #9.5 out of 10. My friend had the hot dog and fries, said it was awesome.

The real deal. I'm from Chicago. I'm Italian. If that doesn't qualify me then check out other reviews. Eat here if you like authentic Italian beef in a casual "Chicago" setting.

Delicious!! Fantastic place for exceptional food at a great price, for the whole family! The best burger I've had in over a year! Great grilled flavor! My kids loved the hot dogs, and the chili sauce was delish! Fantastic fries! Stewart's orange cream soda and IBC root beer to top it off! We'll be back!!

Good Italian beef, not enough salt, when you ask for a glass of water they give you a cup and have you get your own water out of the water fountain.

The only time I have been to Chicago I had a 'beef' at a place called Portillo's and I fell in love with it. So when we happened upon Tony's I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The beef comes with all the fixin's you might expect and is so amazing. Hot, juicy, spicy (if that tickles your fancy), and fresh. The fresh cut fries are out of this world...they know the secret, and a small basket serves 2 easily. One of these days I will have a dog, or something else on the menu...but I don't see that happening anytime soon, even though from what I have seen it all looks great. Service is great as well, with counter style order and pick-up. It just seems like they love their job, because they know they serve great food, and when ever I am their they are always smiling.
(5)
Larissa M.
Beef sandwich is as promised by the reviews, I had ordered mine with no peppers but added mozarrella. Once I tasted it I was happy the mozz got forgotten, "wet" has just the right amount of juiciness and I will stop by whenever I am in that area to try the rest of the menu. The place has a constant flow of traffic so the call ahead paid off as there was just the cook working. If you like small owner operated joints with sports memorabilia check it out.

love it. coming off of Siesta Key this place is casual, no pretenses, good burger and fries at a fair price. And cold beer to rinse it all down. I'm a happy camper.

I'm from Chicago and the one thing that I really miss is the Italian beef and of course the pizza. I've been to many joints claiming to serve up authentic Chicago chow and been disappointed many times. So I'm happy to report that This joint does beef just like Chicago does!!! Go there and get your Chicago fix. Bravo

Rumor has it that one of the owners of Nathan's Hotdogs comes here for the dogs. So who am I to give it any less than five stars. The beef is excellent as the sausage. Will have to try the dogs next time. Yelp check-in special = free fries...and they're awesome too! Found another keeper.

Jazzy F.
I've never had a Chicago dog in my life and because of this place it is now one of my favorites. It's really cheap and the hot dogs come with French fries. Awesome. The only bad part is that they didn't have any ice. I like my drinks Ice cold and that did not happen.

Awesome as always, love this place, the food is amazing! Reminds me of eating at a Chicago diner. Love it!!!!!

Great Chicago atmosphere and great food. I had the "Knuckle Sandwich" and my wife had their chili dog. Both, along with their fries were delicious. Their prices can't be beat either. We both ate for less than $15, which is the cheapest of anywhere we ate while on vacation. Highly recommended!

This place was amazing! I've never had a Chicago Beef sandwich before and I ordered one with extra gravy and sweet peppers and WOW!!! Hubby had a Chicago Dog and Burger and of course we had homemade fries...everything was amazing, very affordable and decor was so cool! Not only that but our 4&5 year old were not impressed with their choices and the staff offered to make them grilled cheese and even brought them hot dog shaped gummies. Kids review? Best meal ever! Will return!!!

Was looking for a quick bite to eat close to our hotel and found this place thru Yelp. Gotta say best Italian beef I've had since Chicago. The Chicago Fire dog was tasty too. The fries a little on the salty side but still good. If I'm ever back in town will definitely stop by again.

After reading other reviews I decided to try the Chicago Dog with fries and the Italian beef with mozzarella cheese, hot peppers, and gravy. This was my first Chicago style hot dog. And it did not disappoint. Really really good. The fries were perfect. The Italian beef was also very good. The gravy or juice makes the sandwich. All reasonably priced. I highly recommend.

This place is a hidden gem! The italian beef/sausage combo really took me back to my days in Chicago. The french fries are shockingly good. Do yourself a favor and look beyond the location/exterior and you will not be disappointed.

I just finished the Italian Beef, and I swear I'm sad because there's nobody around right now to high-five. The period that I lived in Chicago was back when there was a Comiskey Park; I definitely frequented Portillo's regularly, but there was always something about Portillo's at that point that struck me as just awfully commercial, polished, just a bit too mechanical and perfect. Portillo's was excellent, but it just didn't seem to have the heart and soul of that little greasy spoon on south Wabash Ave. that I used to go to in my late teens, or, say, The Wiener's Circle, although I'm not big on char-dogs. You will find an authentic Chicago hot dog at Tony's Chicago Beef, and you will definitely find some of that heart and soul I was talking about; I knew it the moment Tony told me the pops were in the fridge. They even have a Jewel/Osco poster of the Chicago Bears from 1986, which is remarkably similar to the one I got when I was a kid; I couldn't stop staring at it. First off, where the H#ll are you going to be able to feed yourself for 4 bucks in Sarasota? Tony's, that's where! Tony's prices are up about 40 cents from his internet menu, but come on. I can honestly say (and I hope Tony doesn't read this) that I would be willing to pay several dollars more for what is served up, the taste and snap of a proper Chicago dog, with the relish, pickle spear, tomato, onion, mustard, and celery salt, and a PILE of hand-cut fries. All that for under $4. I also tried the Italian beef, and I am taking a stand that it would go toe to toe with Portillo's Big Beef any day of the week. Do you know what Tony's biggest advantage is? He's here in Sarasota with me, whereas Portillo's is back in Illinois. The beef is seasoned just right, but in addition you'll find nice, big slices of delicious garlic in there, and then you add in to the equation the french bread and the thin gravy/sauce; the bread soaks up those italian herbs and beef juices just the way it's supposed to, and you've got yourself a proper Chicago Italian beef. Just the smell instantly put me 1,000 miles north. A trip to Chicago for under six bucks? Tony's earned himself a loyal customer today. Update: been a loyal customer for two years now, and the location On Siesta Drive is just as good. Still madly, madly in love with Tony's.

My new favorite burger joint! Friendly staff, good prices and great atmosphere. Had the double bacon cheeseburger with fries. Outstanding! !

I am a huge sandwich fan - and the Italian Beef sandwich shot straight into my top-3 all-time sandwiches yesterday! The staff here was very friendly, the hand-cut fries were incredible and I loved all the great memorabilia on the walls. We will be back!!

Very good beef sandwich with hot peppers and gravy I recommend trying this place great fast paced food service made fresh to order. They were having problems with credit machine so I recommend bringing cash. Great hand cut fries as we'll.

Your hole in the wall restaurant in Gulf Gate. No air conditioning (or they just leave the door open all the time), but the food is really good. Certainly not gourmet dining...most sit at the counter...but their beef sandwich is extremely tasty, their fries are crispy, their chicago hot dogs are authentic and incredibly good. Give it a try for lunch...don't expect ambience, just good simple food.

Fantastic Service from Joe, Giuseppe, and Caesar. They are always fantastic people every time I stop in. The food is AMAZING! The burgers are great and the fries are delicious! Keep up the great work guys!

Went back and tried the dog, it was good and hearty. Small place, quick service. Chicago folks seem to really enjoy this counter take out spot. Lunch is acceptable. Parking is available right out front. There are other options beside hot dogs but I haven't tried them.

Just might be better than Portillo's or Buona Beef but you can be the judge. All I know is that the Beef Sandwich and Chicago Dog made me think I was back in Chicago and the staff was friendly. This place ain't fancy but the food is excellent and it doesn't cost a lot. If you are from Chicago and in Sarasota looking for food that will bring you back home, don't miss this place.

Really good Italian Beefs, some of the best I've had. I'm a Chicago transplant, and they may not be the BEST beef you can get in Chicago, but definitely legit and delicious.

Randy W.
Really delicious Italian Beef! It's not Portillo's but it's pretty awesome to have a place that's authentic Chicago style :) Tony is a great guy who truly cares about bringing Chicago to Sarasota... Looking forward to trying his other place, the Sarasota Brewing Co, where he brews his own beer. They also serve his Italian Beefs there too.

I was driving down 75, heading back towards Ft. Lauderdale. Instead of stopping for an early dinner as some crappy fast food chain, I did a quick search on my Yelp app and was pointed towards this place. When I first arrived, I noticed a neighboring restaurant that I had seen featured on Travel Channel's Man vs. Food. I considered going there instead. But, the Yelp'ers definitely seemed to prefer Tony's Chicago Beef. The Yelp'ers were right. Tony's was fantastic. Based on the reviews, I had the Chicago Beef with hot peppers. I also ordered the fries. Both were great -- tasty and cheap. You can't beat this place. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Sarasota.

still great food a year later, i will be back before vacation is over. fries were perfect, beef was wet and delicious with sweet peppers, roll was great" dawg with the works was also great.

Okay. What can I say? I love and miss my Chicago foods. But, Somehow, living in Sarasota ,(deep sigh) I don't think I'm really going to find the TRUE authentic Chicago taste that I know and love since birth. I have visit Tony's Chicago Beef a few times, still comparing their food to the other local Chicago theme closet spaces. Tony's beef sandwiches are good, The Italian Beef like no other here thus far resembles that of Chicago Beef from home in "quantity", they pile it high and filled the bun nicely, however the bread is not like the warm crusty Gonnella bread that I grew up with, and their sweet peppers didn't taste sweet and fresh. I also tried a beef sandwich with the other topping of choice, hot giardiniera so that help to add the extra flavor to the sandwich itself. However, Tony's Hot Dogs were on target! I thought the true Vienna Beef flavor was there but I'm not sure if they steamed it like we did in Chicago! Their poppy seed bun was cold. Therefore, lacked a little authenticism!

In somewhat of a response to a previous reviewer...wow. Way to be fair to them. It's not their fault you didn't bring cash. Sure, it may be inconvenient, but does it really warrant cursing? -- Anyway! Having never been to Chicago, I can't speak for how "authentic" it was, but it definitely tasted great! $3.49 for a hot dog and fries. I also got the Italian Beef sandwich (I should've listened to the reviews and the menu and gotten sweet peppers!). I also shouldn't have waited until later to eat it/microwaved it a couple times (I was on the phone for a while and it got cold... :[ ), but yeah. Good stuff. Lots of sports-related paraphernalia all over the walls. It smelled amazing in here (I also hadn't eaten in a while, so it seemed, so that also helped). Staff is super friendly, which I definitely appreciated (5 stars on service/friendliness alone :O ). I got my order to go so I could run (well, drive--it's 2 miles away from Siesta Key Beach and the sun was setting) back to the beach and he packed everything for me really nicely (kept the fries and hot dog separate). He also called me, "miss" instead of "ma'am," which I like, because I think ma'am is a really ugly word. (It's why I call everyone "sir," regardless of gender.)

I was excited to see this place as it is damn near impossible to find anywhere serving Chicago style Italian Beefs (much less a passable version) in this part of the country. Got the combo with mozzarella and hot peppers added. I wanted to get it dipped, but I forgot to ask (my bad). I also had some cheese fries and a few bites of their italian sub. Everything here is pretty tasty. The cheese fries were good. This is a dish that is hard to screw up and thankfully this place did not. It's cheez wiz not melted shredded cheese (I happen to prefer wiz on cheese fries). The italian sub was good as well. The combo was pretty nice. The italian sausage had a good flavor to it and the beef was "right." Wasn't the best Italian combo I've ever had, but it was probably the best one I've had in Florida (to be fair it's the only one I remember having in Fla). As a word of caution, they only take cash here. There aren't any signs telling you this, so beware. Luckily for us, there was a bar next door with an ATM, but still kind of a pain.

Vienna Beef Hotdogs. That's all I have to say.

These guys should be the gold standard for your local food joint. Authentic Chicago style food and an authentic experience. The char-grill is one of the things that makes this place both unique and special, the other is the staff. They're awesome.

Nothing special if you ask me. The Italian beef was average, the burger overcooked. And to top it off it took over 10 minutes to get them.

Absolutely love this place. My favorite hotdog place in the Sarasota area. The Chicago Beef sandwich is outstanding.

The Kids really like this place. I thinks it's actually getting better and better. Service is very friendly. Kids love the hot dogs. I think the Belushi Burger is really good. The Italian Beef sandwich is enough for two people. Peppers are awesome on the sandwich. The fries are evilly addictive. 4 stars for consistency, great service and representing the City of Broad Shoulders.

It was ok tasting. It was quick service and owner and staff were polite and friendly. The sausage I had was too char broiled thou. Not too bad of place but definitely no portillos.

Very Good ! The fries are really yummy .. So if you like Italian beef.. it is really tasty but I gotta say... The burgers are spot on. I mean Really super yummo burgers.. The dogs are great too!... If in Gulf Gate.. Totally worth stopping in for a burger, a dog or an Italian beef! Good old Comfort food and you leave FULL!

I've never eaten in Chicago, so I don't know if it compares to Windy City food or not, but who cares? The quality of food and the very reasonable prices makes this one of my favorite places in Sarasota. Okay, so the interior is nothing to write home about, but it doesn't matter. Where else can you get the best burger - yep, best burger in Sarasota - for less than $5? Where else can you get a great dog AND fries for less than $3.50? The fries are also some of the best I've had, definitely on par with Five Guys' fries, and probably at a fraction of the price. What this place lacks in beauty and style, is more than made up for in its quality food and great prices. Make sure you bring cash. In the past, they did not accept debit/credit cards. Aside from the tiny, ugly interior, one thing they should do is get fountain soda in there. All they have are cans of soda.

Amazing Place!!! A must visit for everyone. What a great atmosphere, literally every person that was in there while I was there was from Chicago, brought back great memories.

From one Tony to another you make an awesome sandwich. The hot beef dipped is the best I've had in florida and the double bacon burger is possibly the best I've ever had that I didn't make myself. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic Chicago beef sandwiches. I have been to Chicago 3 times and get Beef's every time I go. Here in Sarasota I am brought back to Chicago every time I go to Tony's. Don't miss this one guys, best beef around.
(5)Jim C.
A real gem. Authentic Chicago food. Traditional Chicago dogs including poppy seed buns and frankfurters with real casings that snap when you bite into them. Very good Italian beef sandwich -and I've eaten at Al's #1 in Chicago. Right up there. Friendly owners.
(4)Andrew C.
Solid food at a cheap price. French bread is awesome and had a bite of their Italian beef sandwich with provolone cheese and it was delicious. Simple, and good
(4)Maryann G.
Really great food, fast service. Had the roast beef sandwich and it was so good. Feels like I'm back home in Chicago. Can't wait to go back to try other items on the menu!
(5)Chris S.
(4)Dawn R.
we have tried almost every highly rated beef in chicagoland area during our lifetime there and this beef with giardinara is one of the best we have every had. reason being: lots of meat, peppers cut just right, my favorite bread, and PERFECTLY seasoned. we now live in Tarpon Springs and we will be coming down to eat here and at Sarasota Brewery at every opportunity.
(5)Dawn S.
(5)Rachel R.
(5)Shira K.
These fries are amazing. I had the fish. Really great and fresh. My husband got the burger, which was also awesome. I love yelp. I would never have found this place. Also liked the table outside. Super friendly staff. Brought a bucket of ice water out for the dog, which was very kind and thoughtful.
(5)Georgio B.
Great Chicago beef sandwich. A jewel of Sarasota! Def YES! I dont give many 5 stars, but Tonys is hittn'!
(5)Brandon J.
(5)Brian C.
(5)Matt S.
(5)Christel K.
Amazing Coney Dogs for us northerners! And WOW, CHEAP PRICES!!!! Love this place and everyone is so nice!
(5)Erin R.
One of those places that you hope never goes out of business. It took a while but they PERFECTED their fries and their Chicago Dogs are amazing. And cheap too! (don't change that!) It has a very neighborhood feel to it and everyone is always very nice no matter how busy they are. Great place
(5)Johnny C.
Super deal 5 stars
(5)Jen G.
(4)Christopher H.
(5)Colleen C.
Been to Tony's numerous times over the past 2 years. The beef...great...the sausage....even better (if possible)...the people are great as well. I have been to Chicago about 20 times in the last 10 years so I know these guys do it right. The Chicago dog there is probably the best you will get out of Chicago!
(5)Ed W.
Just go.
(5)catherine m.
Tonys Italian Beef is certainly my answer to prayer for some good Chicago style food!! The Hotdogs and Beefs are absolutely fabulous!! Now if I could only find some Chicago style pizza....
(5)Tom K.
(5)George A.
Great family run atmosphere! I always get Italian beef...but orders around me look great
(5)D J.
(5)Rachel M.
(5)Phil G.
(5)Kim P.
(5)Nicolas L.
(4)Andrew S.
(5)Joanna B.
(5)Jan S.
(5)Ed S.
Awesome!
(5)Luis C.
Went there right before closing time. Two dudes not very customer friendly. Italian beef sucked and tasted like it was made half assed. I get the fact they want to go home but no need to make sub par food. Hurts your reputation. Wont be back.
(1)Chris W.
As a native Chicagoan myself I couldn't be more pleased to find this place. The fries and Italian beef are right up there with Portillos and the atmosphere leaves one feeling like it is Portage Park rather than Gulf Gate. They even have Berghoff beer!
(5)Angel M.
Great hot dogs and fries, simple no nonsense. Get in eat your awesome hotdog and get out. Favorite spot when running errands around town.
(5)Trudi C.
Best Italian Beef in Chicagoland! Tender, juicy, never tough. Delicious flavor, spiced just right. Get it topped with red sauce, sweet peppers and mozzarella! Hand cut French fries are also delicious! RC soda products...need to get Pepsi here
(5)Jeff W.

(5)Dawn J.
This place is amazing. I own a business in gulfgate and eat here regularly and Tony and his wife and family work their butts off to provide fast fresh food...at a great price.
(5)Katherine B.
Delicious food. The only place to order a chicago dog in Sarasota. We frequent West End pub during college football season and they're kind enough to run our orders over. Fries are so good and they give you a huge helping!
(5)S L.
Was not impressed at all. Was hoping that with a recommendation from a friend and all the positive reviews, I'd have a good, authentic, Italian beef experience...not the case. The meat was dry and tasteless and the bun turned out to be extremely soggy. Too bad.
(2)Michael G.
I had the Belushi Burger: #9.5 out of 10. My friend had the hot dog and fries, said it was awesome.
(5)Jessica G.
The real deal. I'm from Chicago. I'm Italian. If that doesn't qualify me then check out other reviews. Eat here if you like authentic Italian beef in a casual "Chicago" setting.
(5)Tammy T.
(5)Jennifer M.

(5)Larissa M.
(5)Mark W.
love it. coming off of Siesta Key this place is casual, no pretenses, good burger and fries at a fair price. And cold beer to rinse it all down. I'm a happy camper.
(5)Mike R.
Bravo
(5)Scott B.
Great polish. As good if no better then many places in chicago. Made exactly to my request. Inexpensive and nice people . Fries are included with sandwiches Had hot dog few days later after the beach .perfect. fries excellent. I only eat fresh , hand cut fries. It. Beef looked great. When i return to Sarasota in April ill shoot over there.
(5)Greg U.
(5)Jazzy F.
I've never had a Chicago dog in my life and because of this place it is now one of my favorites. It's really cheap and the hot dogs come with French fries. Awesome. The only bad part is that they didn't have any ice. I like my drinks Ice cold and that did not happen.
(4)Dane B.
Awesome as always, love this place, the food is amazing! Reminds me of eating at a Chicago diner. Love it!!!!!
(5)David M.
(5)Rachael L.
(5)Rob M.
Was looking for a quick bite to eat close to our hotel and found this place thru Yelp. Gotta say best Italian beef I've had since Chicago. The Chicago Fire dog was tasty too. The fries a little on the salty side but still good. If I'm ever back in town will definitely stop by again.
(5)Craig C.
(4)David W.
This place is a hidden gem! The italian beef/sausage combo really took me back to my days in Chicago. The french fries are shockingly good. Do yourself a favor and look beyond the location/exterior and you will not be disappointed.
(5)JT H.
Stopped in to try an Italian Beef w/ mozzarella and hot peppers and it was excellent. I definitely recommend Tony's Chicago Beef Co.
(5)P.J. D.

(5)Krissy M.
I am a huge sandwich fan - and the Italian Beef sandwich shot straight into my top-3 all-time sandwiches yesterday! The staff here was very friendly, the hand-cut fries were incredible and I loved all the great memorabilia on the walls. We will be back!!
(5)Donny F.
Very good beef sandwich with hot peppers and gravy I recommend trying this place great fast paced food service made fresh to order. They were having problems with credit machine so I recommend bringing cash. Great hand cut fries as we'll.
(4)doug w.
(4)Ed M.
Fantastic Service from Joe, Giuseppe, and Caesar. They are always fantastic people every time I stop in. The food is AMAZING! The burgers are great and the fries are delicious! Keep up the great work guys!
(5)Selmy B.
Went back and tried the dog, it was good and hearty. Small place, quick service. Chicago folks seem to really enjoy this counter take out spot. Lunch is acceptable. Parking is available right out front. There are other options beside hot dogs but I haven't tried them.
(3)Mark C.
(4)Katie D.
Really good Italian Beefs, some of the best I've had. I'm a Chicago transplant, and they may not be the BEST beef you can get in Chicago, but definitely legit and delicious.
(4)Randy W.

(5)Robert C.
still great food a year later, i will be back before vacation is over. fries were perfect, beef was wet and delicious with sweet peppers, roll was great" dawg with the works was also great.

(5)Adam S.
(4)Jennifer K.
Vienna Beef Hotdogs. That's all I have to say.
(4)J B.
These guys should be the gold standard for your local food joint. Authentic Chicago style food and an authentic experience. The char-grill is one of the things that makes this place both unique and special, the other is the staff. They're awesome.
(5)Eugene B.
Nothing special if you ask me. The Italian beef was average, the burger overcooked. And to top it off it took over 10 minutes to get them.
(2)William C.
Absolutely love this place. My favorite hotdog place in the Sarasota area. The Chicago Beef sandwich is outstanding.
(5)Rob B.
(4)Jim R.
I'm a native Chicagoan, and when I have a dog at Tony's I can see Lake Michigan. Authentic food!
(5)Justin J.
It was ok tasting. It was quick service and owner and staff were polite and friendly. The sausage I had was too char broiled thou. Not too bad of place but definitely no portillos.
(3)Michelle M.
(4)Colin M.
(4)Hunter F.
Amazing Place!!! A must visit for everyone. What a great atmosphere, literally every person that was in there while I was there was from Chicago, brought back great memories.
(5)Tony C.
From one Tony to another you make an awesome sandwich. The hot beef dipped is the best I've had in florida and the double bacon burger is possibly the best I've ever had that I didn't make myself. Keep up the good work.
