It's Taco Bell but with a cooler looking building. The food is extremely poor quality. It's seriously not worth trying if you like good food. If you love Taco Bell but like to pay a little more money, then you will love this place.

My boyfriend and I go here about twice a week, and love it! Once for Taco Tuesdays, and sometimes for happy hour too (two for one beer). The ingredients are better than any fast-food joints, and yet I can get my black bean burrito bowl for under 5 bucks. It's also a lot better/more fun than Chipotle which is close by. They give free refills on all their non-alcoholic drinks. Plus the sauce bar is a lot of fun (and they change out different ones about once a week).

Good choice for mass market Mexican. This is not an authentic or high end experience and that's OK. What they do they do pretty well. Great place for take out.

Often went on taco Tuesdays and loved it. Came on an off night and not impressed. Service isn't as good, tried the fish tacos, not good, if course i'm comparing fish tacos to real San Diego fish tacos where they were invented. Just don't expect much unless you come on taco Tuesday.

If you go expecting a fun "fast casual" burrito joint you will like what you find. I live blocks from this location and the neighbors all really like this place - its easy and fun. Yes I love the hot sauces ... and the burritos and the staff. OK and dollar beers for happy hour are good also... To comment on the other comments -- Chipotle is building right next store-- there is room for both -- and EL Adobe is gross dirty (my opinion from years ago)

Cheep eats and good fresh Mexican fast food, It's a fun place to take kids or young adults that enjoy Taco Bell etc. We call it 5star fast food. It's the place with 30 hot sauces at the hot sauce bar and one called "Smack my ass and call me Sally"! You have to try them all at one point. They also serve beer and play fun music. A must go for young out of town guest.

I like this place. I haven't been often, but I like their sauces. Since living in San Diego, I've found that I'm more into Tex-Mex than Mexican food. If that's your style too, you'd like this place. Good Mexican food can be acquired down the street at El Adobe. Granted, you'll pay more.

I love their Taco's and they are huge. I love that they added a drive thru window. I do most of the running for take out, at work, and one thing I used to avoid was having to go inside. Mainly because due to it's deliciousness it is always crowded. So we had to deny ourselves on occasion but no more. Love their hot sauce selection. Chipotle moved in next door and I have a couple of friends who prefer that and I say, yeah it's good, but not as good as Tijuana Flats. I go next door and let them have their Chipotle.

A lot of people rant and rave about this place but really, it's just OK. For a step above Taco Bell (since there isn't a Chipotle in Sarasota yet) I'd recommend this place, even then, I'd just say head to Two Senioritas. Not that it's horrible, because it's not, there's just nothing to it besides their hot sauce bar. I'd say it's after-beach-lunch at best.

When Tijuana Flats first arrived in town a few years ago, I was excited about the new concept and the energy the place seemed to have. The novelty of the hot suace bar was interesting and the food seemed good with some interesting flavors. The staff was and remains very attentive and almost every time I have eaten there the service was very good (in the 3-4 star range). The big problem I have come to realize is the food. It's just not that great. And it is consistently not that great. I just had another dos tacos with soft shell regular tortillas. The tortilla was good but the meat was luke-warm and not very tasty. It was saved somewhat by the fresh toppings and I would give this set of tocos between 2 and 3 stars. Admittedly though, this was a good day. I am sure you are asking yourself, "Why does he keep going back, if the foods not that great". My teenage and adult kids do seem to periodically like to eat there. It is a step up from Taco Bell. On a good day maybe two steps up, but don't count on that. With it's good sevice, energy, and novelty it is a complete overhaul of the menu away from being great or even outstanding. But it would have to be a complete overhaul, and I don't think they see the need. One important tip. Do not get take out from Tijuana Flats! Just say no! The food is much better hot and eaten immediately upon being served. The trip home gives it time to become mushy and cold and that seems to bring out the worst in their food.

My first impression was cool decor. Current. Then the food came. Seasoned for older diners, as in no seasoning. (I am at a Mexican, albeit Tex Mex, restaurant, right?) Just in case, it was also lukewarm. Moving on to the salsa....all of it premade, and low quality. Too bad, they have lots of locations.....bottom line, "just say no"

I eat here every time I'm in Sarasota. The food is Bomb! Décor is weird and seating a little crowned, but the fun, lively place makes it ok. The service could be figured out a little better than ordering at the counter. They used to offer table service (sort of) but no more. Either way, great food and with a sweet assortment of hot sauces for every level of "hot". Quality of product has taken a dip over the last year or so but I still recommend it. Food usually comes pretty quick, too. Very kid friendly .

I waited for my food 15 min after I ordered my food a couple people that ordered after me got my food . I didn't have a big order only two tacos and finally I asked and it had been sitting on the side for a while . It was cold and not very good let's just say there service sucks and chipotle will only have my business from now on !

I can't say it was THE tastiest tex-mex but then there is the salsa bar and perhaps that is the plan of the place. HOWEVER, our service could not have been nicer or more attentive for a place that you order at the register. A person (both a woman and a man) floated around the restaurant in near constant motion either asking us if we would like a refill or to remove trash from the table. I would certainly give it another try and become more daring with the hot sauce selection. Super clean, nice fresh decor and very community spirit oriented.

This place used to be a whole lot better. This is a mini-chain that started in Orlando and now is all over Florida, Georgia, Alabama and a handful of other states. In the beginning, it was great, a definite place to come to but like all popular places, popularity has now pretty much taken its toll on TF. The venues (though not the prices) are definitely fast food. The staff is still cool though; they are all sexy girls with tattoos and piercings, they look like "Suicide Girls" (Google them). Their gimmick is the hot sauce bar. You order your food at the counter from a Suicide Girl and then as they're making your stuff in the back, you choose your seat and select medicine cups of their myriad of hot sauces from their hot sauce squirt bar. The sauces lean from very mild (yellow smiley face) to deadly hot (black teary/frowny face) and that is the gimmick that used to keep me coming back. Sadly, that's just not enough these days. Their portions used to be bigger and were more expertly prepared. Now they're just a step up from Taco Bell and three times the price. This particular one in Sarasota features a 4PM-7PM $1 per pint draught happy hour, but you could get real Mexican food up on Washington Ave, take it back to your hotel and drink cheap beer from the Jiffy Mart for a Hell of a lot better price. It would all taste better, too. Wouldn't have to endure screeching work-party females or horny beer+testosterone infused frat guys from the local college either. Go to Guadalupana instead: yelp.com/biz/guadalupana… I've also tried the TF's in Jacksonville and Gainesville and the one in Sarasota is the best of all of them. Don't waste your time or money on any of them, though.

I had the beef and black bean burrito meal. The black beans on the old cold rice were unappealing, and their take on refried black beans was disgusting. The same refried black beans were in the burrito, along with too much salt. There was little flavor, I guess that is why they added so much salt. The only decent aspect of the place was their hot sauce bar, of which many were empty. With food like this, I imagine it will be out of business soon, so save your money and your taste buds.

This place is just Ok, of all the reviews I agree with the one that compares it with Taco bell most. Chiken quesadilla is decent while tortilla and guacamole seem to come from a package/can. Salsa bar is cheesy at best, they are not freshly made salsas, rather they are articicial flavors with no trace of veggies in them. Watch out for hot peppers in the burrito. For a simple Mexican food (I am not talking fancy Rosa Mexicana type) Chipotle is much tastier and quality, and I am sure most simple taco stands as well.

I love Tijuana Flats. The service is always amazing and the food is always great. I love the staff so much. I would eat here every day if I could. The first time I went ti Tijuana flats, I was waiting for a date (that never showed up) and my waitress saw that I was upset and was kind enough to pay for my dinner out of her own pocket. Which astounded me. The prices are super cheap as well and the parking is ok. It isn't meant to hold too many cars but that's fine by me. Always super clean too. I've never seen a speck of dirt on the floor.

One of my favorite restaurants that's cheap, and still a step up from fast food. Their blackened chicken tacos are awesome, and i love the hot sauce bar. They give you chips with your tacos, and the sweet hot sauce is great for dipping them in. Service is always great, and super friendly. Oh, and I love that they put fresh jalapenos in the tacos. Adds a nice kick.

About three years ago, two friends of mine and I road tripped it down to Tampa/ Sarasota so I could look at some colleges. My cousin, who lives in Tampa, recommended that we try Tijuana Flats. Maybe the place has changed over the past three years and now sucks, but man, we thought this place was the SHIT when we were rolling through. We went to three different locations and enjoyed it each time. Sure, it's Tex-Mex, not an authentic burrito by all means, but who cares? You should already know that when you stumble into a place ran by scene girls called Tijuana Flats. I am also quite down with the gimmiky salsa bar (what can I say, I'm a sucker for anything that vaguely resembles a buffet). Would this place deserve four stars three years since I last visited? Who knows. But, honestly, if I can remember this place from that long ago, it sure as hell deserves a decent rating.

I just moved here from Texas so I know my tacos! To me this place is like a step up from Taco Bell. I got really excited when they said they had a salsa bar. Boy was I disappointed. I came to find crappie airport novelty salsa. It's really not hard to make fresh. It would really set this place a part!

I love Tijuana Flats! This was my first time at this location, and just as you can always expect, the staff is friendly, fast and the food is fresh and served at great prices. My favorite is the veggie burrito with black beans and rice.

I'm a first generation Mexican and Tijuana Flats does not represent the true Mexican food, it's American fast food just slightly higher than McDonalds. Not for me - far better Mexican restaurants, take outs in Sarasota than here.

Tijuana flats. Great american mexican food, cheap prices. If you're looking for something slightly healthier and more filling then taco bell this is the best place to go. I recommend the chicken quesadilla. They do really simple food but it's fast and friendly service.

This location has incredible service!!! Bev was attentive and helped answer my questions about their gluten free options (which they have corn tortillas for quesadillas, tacos, etc and they were delicious!) One star is actually too much to give this place. This could be the worst food I have ever had. Taco Bell is way better. This place was expensive and won't even give you salsa. Ordered tacos, it came with chips but no salsa. WTF? I will never be back. Quality of food items were bad, cheap. Soooo disappointed.
