Great surprise! The food is a straightforward, fresh, and tasty take on Russian classics. Format is fast casual, with a clean, minimal, thematically decorated dining room. I like the Russian pop music they play, but might deter some. The desserts are fantastic!

Owners are friendly and hardworking. Atmosphere is stunningly beautiful! And more importantly is the food. BEST Russian food EVER! NO microwaves. Everything FRESH and FANTASTIC!! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend giving this place a try! (try the honey cake!!!)

My son and I recently tried Russian House and I have to say this is a VERY special place that everyone has to experience! We have never tried Russian food before so we had no idea what to order...to our surprise the dumplings are the best I have ever tried and the piroshki sandwiches are perfection. Then to top it off make sure you meet the husband and wife owners as they really care about the quality of product and the experience of tasting a little love from his russian grandmother's recipes.

I was doubtful because most of the reviews aren't from locals BUT I'm so glad we stopped in. We started with the cabbage soup (borsch?), next the sampler plate, and finished with beef stroganoff and cabbage rolls. Entrees come with soup so we got mushroom soup. All I can say is we MUST go back to have more. None of what we had is like anything we had before. I'll save you the time reading about them in details. You must go!

Too bad I'm not from the area came to visit some family and they mentioned this Russian restaurant so we had to stop by, for most Americans eating out or making quick meals on the go doesn't consist of much work in the kitchen so if you want something that is healthy and hearty is prepared for you fresh I recommended the Russian house. Before I go in explaining that most of the dishes are time consuming so for anything to be prepared quick is amazing I come from a Ukrainian/Russian background so I cook all of these meals at home from scratch and they don't take five minutes. You have to really enjoy the food knowing how much work went into it and the process as well. I had to get the piroshki they are my favorite on the go snack or quick food. I tried the potato and beef as well as the meat and mushrooms and it was amazing just writing this review makes me crave it already. Just know that just because you don't enjoy a particular meal doesn't mean it's not amazing because it really is sometimes it's all in preference so check this place out and be open minded. You will want to come back for more. Also ask for the oreshki (little nutshell that has condensed milk filling) hands down the best I've tried and I have had many to sample!

A surprising little gem you might not even see unless you're looking for it. The menu is small, but that's a good thing because they focus on what they do best. My wife and I both ordered the plate of potato and onion pierogi which were amazing. If you're used to Mr. T's frozen pierogi you are in for a treat. The pasta was delicious and tender, but al dente in texture and the filling was creamy. We asked for caramelized onions on top which you pay extra for, but is completely worth it. My wife also had the mushroom soup which she said was good, but mostly unremarkable. For dessert we had their Napoleon. I generally don't care for custard creams, but this was delicious. It was more creamy than sloppy with a great flavor. The three of us polished it off in about a minute. As a bonus treat, we ordered some Russian sodas which were surprisingly good. I had the pear sofa which was refreshing and not too sweet. My wife and our daughter shared a tarragon (yes, I said tarragon) soda that was unexpectedly creamy in spite of its NyQuil neon green color. We vacation here in siesta key every summer and we will make Russian House a regular stop for us.

I was looking for a place I had not tried near by. So I pulled over and opened my yelp app. The pictures of the food made me hungry. I had the cabbage rolls. They reminded me of the ones my grandmother would make. So yummy! The staff was friendly and attentive. My only complaint is that the tables and chairs are not very comfortable. Even though I ate alone, I just could not get a comfy. I think a few booths would make me want to linger and have desert and coffee.

So...I'm writing this review as a spoiled Ukrainian girl with a mom who makes the best Russian food..no not other moms or other Russian people just my mom so normally iv very disappointed..but my experience at Russian house was excellent! I ordered a few staples all tasted almost exactly like they do at home. I recommend the pelmeni! Bravo Russian House Bravo!
(5)Blanca C.
Very good food. We had the piroshki, mushroom soup, stroganoff and the sampler and it was all delicious.

Our first time trying Russian....it was amazing ....found it on yelp ..they were very polite and helpful ..the food was great

I had never tried Russian food or even considered eating Russian cuisine until I came across Russian House. I was so intrigued by the thought of eating at a Russian restaurant, that I had no choice but to try it. Fortunate for me the restaurant has a Sampler Entrée which includes 10 Pelmeni, 5 Pierogis, and 1 Piroshki. I also had an Olivie Salad. The Olivie Salad was basically a potato salad with eggs, beef, sweet peas, and pickles and it did in fact taste like a typical potato salad with a hint of extra sweetness from the peas and pickles. The Pelmeni are beef dumplings, the Pierogis are potato and onion filled dumplings, and the Piroshki is a large flakey pastry filled with beef and mushrooms. The dumplings were like doughier versions of ravioli. The meat and potato from the dumplings had an enjoyable basic flavor but nothing more than that. It did not seem any additional spices or seasonings had been added to the beef or potatoes. The Piroshki was my favorite part of the dish but very basic as well, a good flavor from the meat and the mushrooms but not much else. Overall, I found the food to be enjoyable but average. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is interested in trying Russian cuisine.

Wow. This place gets better and better!!! Now they have cuttlery, a server and even better food in addition to the classics! Now they have a great smoked salmon appetizer that we loved! Mmmmmmm!!!! Delicious!
(5)Gabriel M.
Love this authentic Russian restaurant!! Not authentic in the way they serve but in their food!!! This is like a fast food restaurant with the most amazing Russian food!!! Everything was great!!!! The borscht was awesome, the pierogis really tasty. They have a map you can put a pin with your country/state of origin and the map is REVERSED :)))). Awesome!!! The owners are super nice!!!! The beer heavy and the price reasonable!!! I'm taking my wife to this restaurant tomorrow!

First time visitors. I ordered pirogues which were delicious but I'd prefer if the onions were not INSIDE. Just my personal preference. My husband and daughter tired both soups...mushroom and the other called borscht I believe. They both LOVED the soups. The olivie salad was vey enjoyable as well. It is like a potato salad of sorts. Very good. My husband and son had the sampler plates. They enjoyed the pirogues and the Piroshkis. We all had a bite from each. Husband had meat and mushroom and our boy had potato and meat. I personally LOVE LOVED LOVED the potato and meat one. I should have gotten extra to take home for midnight snack lol. Next time I will. The little meat dumplings called Pelmenis were very good but we were not accustomed to the type of seasoning, so I think that is something we would have to grow accustomed to. We DEFINITLEY will go back and HIGHLY recommend this place. If I had to say one negative it would be that I would like to see a partition covering the woman's bathroom door that is in the dining area. A bit uncomfortable having a bathroom in a room where we are eating . A partition would be good enough. Just a suggestion. This is a MUST stop if you are in Sarasota.

This hidden gem in plain sight was a wonderful surprise. I don't know much about Russian food so I was trying something new. The potato salad was the best I have ever had. That is saying a lot from this southern girl. My 8 year old said "this place was straight up awesome". I ordered the sampler entree that had piergos, beef dumplings (pelmini) and a fried bun stuffed with beef and mushrooms (piroshki). All was delicious but the piroshki was my favorite! The bun was soft and yummy!!
(5)Candice F.
We are not Russian but we felt like we were for the afternoon. We stopped for a snack and got much more. Extremely friendly, helpful and good lookjng ;) staff. We even had a nice conversation with the owner about smoked salmon and lamb. There are no microwaves in their kitchen. Everything is homemade and fresh. I am glad that we are all passionate about good food! So I got the sampler that came with 10 meat dumplings that definitely had special Russian seasonings, a fried dumpling that I choose to have filled with cabbage and carrots, that also came with perogies, and steamed broccoli. Everything was excellent and special, even the broccoli. We also shared an order of stuffed cabbage that were fantastic. I almost licked the plate clean.

I caught the sign for the Russian House as I drove by. I was contemplating where to stop for something to eat and hadn't ever eaten at a Russian restaurant before so I turned around and went in. Boy am I glad I did. I couldn't decide so I got the sampler plate. I could barely eat it all and it was amazing. The waiter was adorable and very attentive. And the price was not much more than what you'd pay for a meal at a drive through fast food joint. Do yourself a favor and stop and try it. You will be very pleased. I'm only sorry I live in Bradenton and rarely get out that way!
(5)Charlie D.
Stopped in for lunch and will definitely be coming back. Pleasantly surprised to find the beer I ordered was a pint bottle. The food was delicious. I had the borscht, stuffed cabbage and piroshki. The piroshki was so good I ordered two to take home! Service was excellent. 5/5
(5)Ashlee D.
I ordered the sampler plate and my sister had the beef stroganoff. Oh my goodness!! Everything was delicious and the staff was incredibly kind and welcoming.
(5)Serene T.
Nothing can beat the price with this restaurant. I should say, everything in the menu are way too awesome. I'll definitely go for my next dinner over at Russia house. People out there, you really need to try this yourself. Is it soooo good!!!
(5)Trisha C.
Always delicious!! The best perogis & pelmeni!! Everything is made to order so it takes a few minutes but worth the wait.
(5)Scott S.
I can't add much to the other positive reviews. This place really is very good, and a lot better than you might expect from the strip mall entry. There's no substitute for both knowing how to cook and caring about the integrity of your product. Forget the chains, and ditch the fast food; this is the real deal.
(5)Alex B.
Russian cuisine is in general simple and full of calories, because it is intended for cold weather, but we really enjoyed it here in Florida. Here you will find unpretentious, hearty Russian food - just what we were craving after first hearing about the place. The only issue I had was that my Kiev was too salty for my taste. Vareniki and especially pirozhki (stuffed fried buns - as opposed to pierogi, which are dumplings) are also very good.
(4)Gary W.
Great find. Real Russian food. Reasonably priced for huge taste. Not some crazy exotic food, but dishes everyone would enjoy. Fresh and plentiful portions. Try the pierogi and Olivie salad.
(5)Ed M.
Drove by and I was intrigued. Decided to have an early supper. Fast food Russian style...you order at the counter and sit at any table, very cheerful attractive place. They bring it to you. I had the pelmeni, a kind of dumpling, 20 of them per order. Also a dark Baltika beer, both are very nice. The menu is Russian and Central European. Good for lunch and supper or snack. This is a fun place. Worth a visit.
(4)Sergey M.
The borsch is almost as good as my wife's :) very quiet and soft russian music. Great ambience! A+++
(5)JASON M.
The pierogi was excellent, choose from 10 or 15 count but, the prices were even better! Quiet, clean place. Not a lot of ambience but, I was here for the food and it really delivered. Quick and easy pick up (delivery available too).
(4)Selmy B.
Excellent lunch and dinner spot for casual hot and fresh food. A change from the chain spots in the area. Definitely a must if you like Pierogis or ever wondered about Russian food, come try this. Very casual and informal with plenty of parking. Nice couple own it and menu is real easy to understand. Plus owner speaks clear English. Beer available too.

Let me start out by saying that I'm Russian. I was born and raised in Crimea, now former Ukraine, and I love my native cuisine---it's simply the best. However, I'm rather more than challenged in the culinary arts department and never learned to cook traditional Ukrainian/Russian food. Fortunately, I have aunts and a mother who spoil me occasionally, but sometimes even they need a break: enter Russian House. By far, hands down, THE BEST Russian food this side of the Atlantic. The olivie tastes JUST like my aunt's and the pelmini are spot on to what my family and I make when we're all together. It's simply delicious. And quite reasonably priced, I might add--plus wayyyy healthier than whatever fast food garbage one can buy for the same price! I also thought the decor was done very tastefully and I loved the "Did You Know?" facts on the napkin dispensers. With all that being said, I would recommend the owners serve a slice of bread with the meal and keep up serving Daisy sour cream in dallops, not in packets. Other than that, keep doing what you're doing!! I wish we had an authentic Russian restaurant like this in Memphis; still, I can't wait til our next visit to come back and bite into a piece of home. Great job!!
(5)Christian D.
Great food! We found this restaurant while visiting Sarasota on vacation and decided to give it a try. Needless to say we were not disappointed. The reviews are spot on. Very traditional Russian fare. The Borsch was great, also recommend the sampler plate and my favorite - the Olivie salad. Don't miss out if you're in town and looking for something unique.

This place was fantastic. Hubby and I have never had Russian food before and this place was a great first experience. The staff was wonderful and took the time to explain the food to us and give recommendations. The place was clean and the food was prepared fast and tasted great. We would definitely retun.

My wife and I found this little gem while driving through Sarasota during our vacation this week. The sign outside is black-and-white, and the clean, friendly restaurant is oddly situated at the street end of a three-store strip, so it's easy to overlook. DON'T OVERLOOK IT. We ordered a sampler with pierogis, palmeni and a yummy slaw; I added a bowl of borscht. All were delicious, and a nice break from the usual Cuban/seafood rut I tend to lapse into while in Florida (I love both). Having spent some time in the USSR, I was hoping to have a little taste of that, and I wasn't disappointed. You'll enjoy the nice selection of Russian/Eastern European beers, too.
(5)Roberto A.
This is a great place to eat. They have a number of the Russian brewed Baltika beers, which are fantastic. Their borscht is excellent, their Stroganoff is awesome. They also have great pierogys and pelmenyi. The piroshki are delicious. Their desserts are also worth the calories, in particular the honey cake and the oreshki. If you don't try this place, you are really missing out. This is great food.
(5)Tina F.
Wonderful!!! We ordered the sampler (great option for $11.99) and some borscht. It was all incredibly tasty. You order at the counter and then they bring out the food (very quickly). Not a huge selection on the menu but great options. The restaurant is very clean and beautifully decorated. The staff was very friendly and checked to see how our food/experience was. Highly recommended. Great experience!
(5)Annmarie P.
Pretty delicious food. All made fresh onsite daily. Got the combo plate which is a good way to try out this amazing food. Upgraded to beet salad - a must. Fabulous food humble owners. Will definitely return. Highly recommend!!!

We were looking for something different for lunch. We found it! My husband and I shared an order Pelmeni and an order of Vareniki. We added onions and sour cream. It was delicious with great flavor. My husband drank a refreshing black currant Tarczyn to complete his meal. The owner is delightful and very helpful. A great find!

From a 58 yo Russian who lived in Russia and Ukraine: do not hesitate to have a taste of good Russian cuisine. I had a sampler plate (Vareniki and pirogi with potatoes and beef) and borsch. This restaurant could easily be granted a prize for making very thin and tender dough which is considered to be a true culinary art in Russia. I saved some sour cream from my borsch for my husband who added it to the beef Stroganoff. You could do it too or just ask for more sauce if you like lots of sauce. At 11:30 am the restaurant was out of desserts (Napoleon would be my choice), probably still baking their magnificent thin crusts which good Napoleons require. Hope to taste one on our next visit. Only four stars because they were out of desserts.

We were off for steak but read the reviews and changed our plans. So glad we did as we can have steak anytime. Great food. We had the salmon appetizer, sampler entrée , and Chicken Kiev. Everything was delicious.
(5)Tim G.
Wonderful food! Went twice in two days, and going back next week! Had the pelmeni, pierogi, and the peroshki....all were incredible. Good pricing too and friendly staff, love to see the ethnic restaurants doing well here!
(5)Derek M.
Amazing food, great service.... VERY cheap for the amount and quality of food!! Manager/chef actually came out to check on us... very rare in Sarasota. The only confusing thing was the complete lack of a crowd on Friday night. We almost drove past thinking they were closed, but they are open until 9pm. Not sure if we were very lucky, or if no one has heard about this place yet. VERY worth checking out as soon as you possibly can!!!!
(5)Mike Y.
Good authentic Russian and Ukranian dishes just like my Ukrainian mother makes!! Fast, easy, and well priced! If you are a fan of Eastern European cuisine this a must go!
(5)Lila B.
This is a great place to go to eat! The decor is pretty and it's easy to go with kids because you pay at the counter. The food is yummy. Try the dish that the owner recommends for kids- it was my favorite and my daughter also loved it. The owner and waitress are really nice and it's just an enjoyable experience.
(5)Svet F.
Yum! Everything that we got from the menu we loved! The pilmeni were delicious with sour cream & the salads are so good. My 1st time and I will defiantly come again since their menu is very reasonable and easy to order from. The lady at the register was very pleasant.
(5)Dasha R.
Love this place!! Friendly staff and always homemade fresh food.. Great for vegan and vegetarian people also. We go there almost every week!!!
(5)Michael G.
4 1/2 stars for the food, 2 1/2 stars for the price. 1 Star for the grumpy guy behind the counter, lol.
(3)Victoria D.
Great little Russian restaurant, not too far from the crescent beach! Good, delicious, and made from scratch food. Yum!! It's like eating at my mommas house- real russian food! Piroshki were my favorite.
(5)Karen Q.
Great place to try Russian food. We split a sampler, so we were able to try several things. Owner was very good about explaining options and pointing out what was what when it was served.
(5)Milt H.
We have been there about 4 times. The food has always fresh and delicious. The boursch is dfferent than the sweet boursch we. Are used to, bit it too was deicious. ...and the place is clean

I was there about 2 months ago but never wrote a review for some reason, but here it goes. My boyfriend and I were on vacation in Sarasota Florida, and one day we decided to drive around and see what's around the area of where we were staying. We passed this place and I noticed that it said Russian house. Being Ukrainian and knowing that my boyfriend loves this type of food, we stopped to check it out. The place was very easy to miss but boy was I happy we stopped there! The guy that worked there, I believe his name was Andrew, was very helpful and very nice! He explained how everything works there. So when you come in you order your food at the front then proceed into the dining area where you can pick a table. That's what we did, and while waiting for out food Andrew came over to us and gave us 2 pins to put onto a giant map of the world to show where you came from. There were a lot of pins already, but we thought this was such a cool and interesting idea! Then not too much later we received our food. We both ordered "pelimeni" which is meat dumplings. They were so delicious and Andrew told us they make everything from scratch so that was a very pleasant surprise! The place itself looked very clean and tidy and at the moment when we dined there, there weren't a lot of people. Just 2 other customers besides us. This was one of those places that I hope they succeed and do very well in their business! Top notch keep it up guys!!!
