India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.

My favorite is Butter Chicken. That sauce is to die for! I just found out that they have delivery available- I'm excited to have that option for the future. If you are picking up take-out, enter through their back door because their back parking is almost always open.

Hands down my favourite downtown source for tasty Indian foods! It is especially helpful that they have vegan options marked. In a town the size of Sarasota, the dining options can get mundane. India palace is among the top rank for breaking & parting ways with monotony. I tell everyone to go there.

Delicious Indian food and well prepared. I had the traditional Tika Masala which was really tasty. The server was very friendly and helpful in regards to reccomendations on the menu. Portions are small but can be shared if eating in a European style. I wish this place all the luck and hope more people try this place if they have tried Indian cuisine as they wont be disappointed!

A bit pricey @$20 for 6 small cubes of chicken and a naan. The chicken teka masala was very average and the takeout service underwhelming! Next time it's a different restaurant.

Very good lunch buffet. Lots of variety and friendly, informative service by Rashal (I'm positive that's spelled wrong). I look forward to coming back for dinner to try some hot and spicy Indian dishes. Great value too at $10.95 for a solid AYCE buffet. Thanks!!

I had the chicken Tikka Masala and it was quite good. Prices are reasonable. The lunch buffet had a lot of selection.

This is my new favorite Indian restaurant. I'm still a fan of Gateway, but it's nice to have another authentic Indian restaurant in Sarasota. Their tikka masala is the best, paneer is soft and melt in your mouth fantastic, their lamb vindaloo is hot as hell, and service is always attentive and pleasant. If you can't take the heat of the vindaloo, you can request it mild and they tone down the heat with what seems like a vinegar base sauce allowing you to still enjoy the dish without burning a whole down your esophagus unless you enjoy that burn. They have fried paneer appetizer that's one of our favorites. My husband likes the fried cauliflower, but it's a little too sweet for me. They have a lunch buffet, which I have not tried, but I hear they put out a good amount of dishes and they get a decent lunch crowd. Lunch or dinner, this is awesome Indian.

I love this place! I've enjoyed their lunch buffet twice and eaten dinner here twice, including tonight. I had a small bowl of mulligatawny soup to start. The spices in it were exquisite - absolutely delicious. Then I had the Aloo Baigan. Once again the potato, tomato and eggplant were in a wonderfully spiced sauce - just excellent. It was a great dinner! I also want to mention that the staff are incredibly kind and gracious every time I come in.

We went back to India Palace after purchasing a double take deal. Sadly it's not what I remember from my last experience. It was 8pm on a Friday and we were the only customers in the restaurant. The samosas were very oily as was the Chana masala. The other dishes were ok, but nothing comparable to what I've had at other Indian restaurants comparably priced. The spinach potato dish was supposed to be dairy free but tasted so creamy we couldn't eat it. Sad to say we won't be back.

Put yourself in the place of the new restaurant owner. Before you open the doors, an enormous thicket of regulatory and financial palmetto must be negotiated; there are leases to be signed, checks cut, fit-out...fitted. Then, after all the pain of gestation and birth, you stand proudly at the front of house and await the hungry. I wonder sometimes how these folks do it. How to maintain a six-days-a-week show of welcome, keep the kitchen sending out quality food and maintain your enthusiasm for it all? Well, maybe that enthusiasm will slip a little, especially on a Sunday night in Sarasota. You look at your dining room and note that you have a total of four patrons. Why, you wonder, are hungry hordes not lining up to eat your food; why are you not over-run with appreciative, adventurous Sarasotans and S-Birders? Which might explain the slightly dour reception I received at the Palace. Not unfriendly, mind you, just serious, with a whiff of exasperation. Did our host let slip his fear that here was another group of timid, flavor-fearful Americans? *Please, no more of these curry wannabes* And then something changed. One of our party ordered Indian beer. I had lassi. Every one of our dishes we wanted genuinely hot, spice-wise. Our choices weren't mainstream. Somewhere in there the entire mood changed; I think we made their night. The Palace made ours, too. A case can be made that a community milestone exists - in a culinary sense - when a quality, competitive Indian restaurant battle is joined. That time appears to be now.

I tried this place for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. I remember trying the lunch buffet a few years back and was not impressed, however I gave it another try today for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The lunch buffet is great, low price and the servers are wonderful. Tandoor is still my favorite, but this is my runner up since I live downtown. Great food, hospitality, and convenient location; I will be back!

The madras chicken was excellent. The aloo gobi was just ok. The naan was downright weird. It was almost a hybrid of naan, focaccia and pizza dough. It was very dense and unlike any naan I've had in any Indian restaurant, and I've eaten in Indian restaurants around the world.
(3)Wendy P.
Food was good. We are English so curry is second nature to us. My chicken tikka masalla was not tikka meat just plain chicken (I know tikka meat). I did point this out but the server said it was!! Peshwari nan was delicious. We will go back just reconsider what we ordered.

India Palace is authentic and worth the wait. Their dishes are full of great Indian spices. The appetizers are great. The curries and masalas are yummy. The waiter, which I believe is the only waiter there, is pleasant and funny. The Indian beer is not too bad...basic pilsner taste. Considering the other couple of Indian restaurants in Sarasota, this is my only go to place for authentic Indian flavors.

Excellent food. Had the mixed grill tonight and could not be more pleased. You must try this place. It is the best Indian food I have had in Sarasota so far. I will be back!

Great food! Meat portions were generous and the service was excellent. Would definitely recommend it.

While I'm not a big food critic, I do have a love for Indian food. This place satisfies my craving and then some :) I like the different twists on the usual white rice. The Tikka Masala is by far my favorite, no fatty or grissly chicken chunks. The naan actually has some thickness and moisture to it. I'm pretty much a sissy when it comes to spice, this buffet has a touch of spice, but it's just the right amount! I think more people need to check this place out. I was the first person in for lunch at noon on a Sunday in downtown Sarasota. It was cool to be the first to eat the buffet because you could see the extra touch they had added for presentation. A couple fancy stripes of sauce in some dishes, nicely placed greens.. I think the place is fairly new, I really hope they are doing well and continue to build a solid customer base. The place is clean, staffed and had great food :) I'm down from MN for work, I will definitely visit this place at least once every time I come down!

We had a great experience. Staff was so accommodating - chicken tikka was delicious and the rice was cooked to perfection. Would definitely go back.

The butter chicken and chicken tikka masala were some of the best I've ever had. Especially the butter chicken. The vegetable samosas were the absolute, hands down best I've ever had. The service was excellent. My only complaints were that they asked if I wanted more water instead of just bringing it, and the naan was not as light and fluffy as I'm used to (still good). All that said, I will go back again and again if it matches my first experience. It's currently my favorite Indian food in Sarasota.
(4)Michael H.
Great new addition to the Sarasota food scene. The garlic naan is great and all the food selections are amazing. Come for lunch to try different plates. The lunch buffet is perfect. Bottomless naan anyone?

The India Palace Restaurant at 1551 Main Street, Sarasota, Florida is amongst the best Indian restaurants I've ever eaten in. For too many decades in England, the US and in Europe I've tracked down and eaten in indifferent, or themselves overcooked Indian restaurants. Happily, but alas only occasionally, one wanders into a WONDERFUL Indian restaurant. THIS IT.... THE INDIA PALACE RESTAURANT IS ONE OF THOSE EXTRAORDINARY FEW!! The chicken is delicious, and flavorful in addition to being tender. Surprise. Surprise. The veggy dishes are spiced to perfection: not too hot, and never insipid. The tandoori actually tastes like tandoori not like a cardboard box leftover from Christmas. Finally, the condiments tray is loaded with raita, onions, AND LOVELY mint sauce. The masala sauce soaking the chicken masala is just perfection. But what is the final test of a review of the usual Indian restaurant? Mostly I run ...I don't walk out the front door. At the India Palace instead I ate there twice in a 22 hour period. That's a vote for a restaurant I don't think I've ever made anywhere! The owner of the India Palace Raj Gilla has made a splendid restaurant. He even comes from Hyderabad, in Central India a place that I once wrote a book upon. What more could one ask? Clark

Wife and I had lunch buffet. It was good but to our taste not good enough to go back. I guess if you live or work close by its OK. They ran out of Tikka masala and Nan is not made fresh for each table as in other buffets. Service was good and staff friendly.
(3)Frank U.
Very expensive for what you get. $4 for 1 Naan. We counted about 8 small shrimp in the $17 Shrimp dish. The reviews are correct - parking is very difficult and forget a quick carry out. I parked in back per the gentleman's advice on the phone and was nearly towed away in minutes. I must say the food tasted good - proper spices. Hope they can work these few kinks out.

Went here hoping that there was some new Indian in town to rival Gateway to India and Tandoor. While the price was fair, and the service was very good, the food was disappointing. Started with a Dosa appetizer, which was pretty good. However, for the main course, we had Chicken Saag and Manchurian Cauliflower. The Chicken Saag was just not very well cooked and the sweetness of the Manchurian Cauliflower dish made it practically inedible. I might have entertained the idea of giving this place another chance and possibly giving it a 3-star rating, but the dense naan turned me away.
(2)Mikey S.
I go here because I live close, the food is ok but not great. They get an "A-plus" because they have gobi manchurian, which you do not see everywhere (big mistake on other Indian restaurants parts) yet something AMerican's would probably love. So good for them for providing one of my favorite dishes! The deep friend peppers were good BUT the cook made a rookie mistake by sprinkling the salt and pepper in one place. Therefore, one bite was very salty and peppery and the rest of the pepper was completely unseasoned. The chenna masala was really bland. The lentil soup was so bad that my dining partner didn't finish it. I tried it and it had to be water and lentils only (no salt, spice, exotic twists...nothing). Very bland and boring. Not bad ingredients, just lack of flavor. The naan is good. Tough to get a refill on water, but strangely I find that to be true at most indian and asian restaurants. It's a young restaurant doing the best it can with what it has got. They have the potential to succeed if they pay attention and strive to grow. I will always come back here. I like the food but it is certainly not the most exciting indian food I have ever had. When I read reviews that say that this is the best Indian they have ever had, I am floored.

My sister-in-law, GF and I had dinner on Sunday Dec 21, 2014. The service by both a waitress and waiter was very good. The food was tasty and the "very spicy" dish was hot enough for my palate. It was not memorable dining, but the food and service were good enough that I would go back again for a regular dinner, a classic 3 star review. The ambiance is very pleasant, not too loud, making for a nice dinner to talk over, hence 4 stars rather than 3 since pleasant surroundings make the meal much more enjoyable.

Bad Chicken I used to love eating at the India Palace, and had been there at least 5 times in the last few months. Unfortunately what was my favorite Indian food in Sarasota has now become my least favorite; after I bit into a piece of chicken that was in a word, rancid. It was unmistakably bad, obviously having either been held past it's expiration date or kept in warm conditions before being cooked. Luckily I was able to spit it out without any of it being swallowed. It is a shame, since I thought the food there was much more flavorful than any other Indian place in town. The staff removed the bad chicken and followed up by asking me no less than 5 times if everything else was OK. This left me extremely uneasy about everything else that I had eaten, and I told them I was ready to leave. When they brought the check, I asked them if they thought it appropriate to charge me after being served rancid chicken. The response was that they could only take 10% off the check, since I had ate other things off of the buffet that were not bad. I will not return to the India Palace again.

Had the $10.95 lunch buffet twice. Totally fine, but nothing extraordinary. The food leans toward spicy, and some dishes were lukewarm. Their chai ($2.95 extra) is not sweet (as it should be). Chicken Tiki Masala was pretty good. Service is excellent. You can sit outside if there are tables.

Great lunch buffet! Best Indian food in town. always something different at the lunch buffet

This restaurant does NOT have curb appeal. It is dreary and occupies the same space of 4 or 5 failed restaurants. Not good karma. What it DOES have, however, is great food & service. I've eaten there 3 times (it was a hard choice, given the previous history of the venue and the unappealing décor) and 3 out of 3 produced great food and service to match. Ordering from the buffet, I was amazed by how many truly tasty items they had to offer. Only the chicken tandoori was a bit dry, but nonetheless very tasty. The rest of the dishes, including lots of interesting vegetable items, were home runs, from the Chai Masala to the bread to the curries to the sumptuous rice pudding for desert. My friend, and old India hand, had Dhosa from the menu. It's a wonderful South Indian item, and it looked as though it was made at a gourmet restaurant, served with pomp, ceremony, and just the right positioning and garnishing to look as though it belonged on a magazine cover. And it was GREAT tasting!!! Don't let the looks or the history of the venue turn you off. Do NOT pass this place buy. It is well worth the stop, particularly if you've been to the Indian subcontinent, know good Indian food when you see it, and don't want to miss out!!

I took my Mother here, as we try all new Indian restaurants in in the Sarasota area. Parking can be an issue. Her exceptions were not high. The sign outside said $10.95 for the buffet, most places are less. We were welcomed warmly and simply had a great meal. I find many Indian restaurants food to be made for Americans tastes. The Dal was the best in Sarasota. My husband and my mother said the the chicken curry was great. I am not a big curry fan. Loved absolutely everything I tried. I also liked that the Nan was readily available and we did not have to wait or ask for it. The owner came and talked to us and he is simply a delightful man. Told us that they have some off the menu item that they serve at dinner, ie, lamb chops and mushrooms. I haven't had traditional Indian food like that in 30 years. Can't wait to go back! Mom took a bunch of people over Thanksgiving weekend and said it was GREAT!!!

Note: this place isn't suitable for those with Celiac, or who are especially gluten-sensitive. (Issues with cross-contamination.) We went in with high hopes, since having an Indian option downtown would be wonderful. Sadly, the food wasn't great, and even after double-checking with the server about gluten in the food (we split the paneer tikka masala and the masala dosa), I got sick. The paneer tikka masala was overly sweet, and had very noticeable amounts of cardamom. After overhearing another table talk about cardamom in their dish, I think that it may just be something that the chef really enjoys. I love it in some things, but it's a bad fit with tikka masala sauce. The masala dosa was pleasantly spicy, but the dosa itself was on the tough side - we think that it might have just been a bit too thick. I liked the flavor of the filling, but my partner found it to be overly onioney. On the plus side, the staff were very friendly and kept up with things even during the hecticness that came with a big event on Main St. The decor is simple, but nice, their mango lassis were pleasantly tangy, and their "medium" spiciness level actually has a bit of kick to it. But while that's enough to bump them up from 1 star, it can't make up for the rest.

Food and service both excellent. Our server was friendly, had a good sense of humor and was very helpful. I'm not very familiar with Indian dishes-- our server gave excellent guidance and suggestions based on what types of foods and levels of heat we like. I ordered veg samosas---excellent flavor, perfectly cooked and the right amount of spice--with two very nice dipping sauces. We had Paneer Jalfrezi for an entree--superb, very tasty and the "hot" suited me perfectly. We will certainly be back. Definitely want to try the luncheon buffet.

I like this place. Good food, good service, good location. I have only tried there lunch buffet. It has a good variety of dishes (meat and veggie), it taste good, and they change it up every day. I'm Indian so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to Indian food.

Best indian food in my life, I would like to thank to the chefs who working in the restaurant ..

We had our third visit to India Palace today. We brought along two friends ...all of us foodies and lovers of ethnic cuisines. India Palace is at the top of our list in Sarasota. Their buffet has something for everyone and the spices were fabulous. Today I tried something that looks like a flat felafel but it was much tastier. The green salad was among the best I've had anywhere...healthy and the dressing was perfect. Having been to India we found everything to be very authentic. A great addition to Sarasota.
