Parrots! And groceries. But parrots! Prices are a bit higher than your usual grocery store, but you probably could've guessed that. They have just about everything you could need here - just like your regular grocery stores do back at home. If you're buying a lot, they have this weird chute system that shuttles your purchases down, where you then drive around and pick them up. Keeps the carts out of the lot, I guess. Decent beer selection. On our last day, I decided to grill up some burgers. Bought 4 from the meat department, then went to the deli for 4 slices of cheese. The lady gave me an eye-roll, then proceeded to cut the thickest four slices of all time. It came out to nearly half a pound of cheese, in four slices. I had to laugh at that scam.

Coolest grocery store on the island. As you walk through the atrium to the store, you'll walk through a garden, complete with tropical birds. We didn't dine here, but stopped in for all our grocery needs.Good place to shop for deli meats (they'll even prepare a sandwich for you!), great selection and great bakery. Don't miss their genuine key lime pie (complete with the sign of pi on top!) It is quite possibly the best key lime pie you've ever eaten!
(5)conor b.
High priced but enough food to accommodate anyone. Fresh baked goods and more vegan options than my local grocer. Kids love to see the parrots outside. It's a grocery store, what else do you want?
(4)Kat S.
This place is inside Jerry's grocery store, there are floor-to-ceiling windows so you can enjoy the tropical flora outside. Really nice way to start the day off. There are even in parrots and cockatiels (caged) in the courtyard before you enter the store. Good breakfast food (I came here three times for breakfast), slow, nonexistent service in a pretty bright and airy space. Tables and booth seats aren't always properly wiped down but its probably bc they're so busy and like to sit a table as soon as its empty. I've only had the breakfast menu but everything is pretty solid. The croissant sandwich (with sausage or bacon) stood out, eggs Benedict was a popular dish, and the OJ was good.

Jerry's has been a great way to accommodate a gluten-free diet. Although more expensive than your mainland stores, they offered quite a variety of items, comfort foods and snacks to make vacationing that much easier. The service is always impeccable & love picking up my groceries downstairs drive up!
(4)Marissa M.
Have every thing you may need and more. Yummy fruit! Very friendly checkouts! The birds are so sweet to see every time we vacation here :) great large selection of food
(5)Christopher M.
They deliver groceries to Captiva for a reasonable rate of $25. The berries I got were moldy which was disappointing but they got me my food order very quickly (less than 48Hours!!). Overall I was extremely satisfied.
(4)Don J.
Came for breakfast. Shared an omelette with my wife. Service was very good and the prices were surprisingly low. Too bad the omelette wasn't better; it could have been light and fluffy, instead it was overdone and chewy. I'll come back just not for an omelette.
(3)R T.
Don't be fooled by the restaurant tucked into the grocery store. This is a great breakfast place that is reasonably priced for Sanibel. The chunky cinnamon French toast is amazing. It's made with bread baked fresh in the store. The coffee is a step up from typical diner coffee and the service is friendly.
(4)Michelle P.
Nice find and a neat, unique concept... A sit down, table service restaurant inside of a grocery store! We stopped for breakfast while riding our bikes on the island. Surrounded by lots of tropical plants and Windows galore! Several tropical birds in cages as you walk in to exchange a quick 'hello' with :-) Service... Quick and friendly Food... Egg scrambler with Swiss, ham and spinach on a croissant was delicious combination Decent coffee (they leave a little carafe for you on the table, which is nice) ... And, we get to pick up some groceries on the way out!
(4)Chill C.
Good food. Good service. Thank you Cathy! I would recommend this place for breakfast & brunch anytime. Went to over easy cafe the day before and we didn't like it at all! So here you get real fresh food, friendly staff and a Diner like location surrounded by lush greens. Kids friendly ( they'll get crayons and paper). I would return.
(4)M A.
Excellent tucked away restaurant. Hard to find on the inside of a supermarket, but it really surprises. Amazing place for lunch. You would swear you're in a New York City deli as the sandwiches are fresh, delicious with healthy portions of meat. The cole slaw is freshly prepared and desserts fantastic. Service is also first rate. A must stop in Sanibel!
(5)Dodi A.
Excellent store to stock up on basics when I get tired of expensive restaurant bills with subpar service and food. Key lime pie is the best. Love the fresh produce, deli and bakery products.
(5)David A.
Great place to shop for food. Low prices, good service, it is the ideal place to shop in Sanibel. Unfortunately, smokers inhabit the outdoor parts. Funny and cool birds also do. There are parrots and other birds there. The parking situation is good, and is in a nice spot, nestled in the center of Sanibel.
(4)Rachel M.
Jerry's Foods is okay. I really thought it would have more. It is a grocery store with a little restaurant café inside. You park in the covered garage which is nice to avoid the hot sun and the crazy rain. You can not bring the carts up and down the stairs but they have a service where they bring your cart down, and there is someone there for you to pick it up in your car. They do not want you to tip also They have some ready made foods like Rotiserrie chicken and the sides, but aside from that, it is the usual grocery stuff. I thought it was going to be like a Whole Foods where they had more foods to eat and go, but it is not.
(3)Kyle L.
For being the only grocery store on the island this one has a great selection of foods. The bakery is awesome, lots of good stuff there don't pass it up. We had a key lime cheescake and it was only $12, it was the most unbelievable cheescake and would easily go for $30 back home in Chicago.
(4)Marsha C.
Jerry's is a great place to consider if you don't want fancy - just lots of choices and decent food. The waitresses are old school, think "hun" and "sweetie". Went to this place in June during an island wide power outage and the only place on the island (we think) with a generator was Jerry's! In spite of the chaos and people crowding in to eat - they handled it like troopers. And believe me with a high end island full of tourists looking for food - that's not any easy chore. Our hats were off to the service. Will definitely try Jerry's again for a low-key meal!!
(4)Mike M.
Foods really solid. Almost never a wait.
(4)Vincent P.
The staff was nice, the selection was good, and that's all I can really say.
(4)Glenn S.
Very pleased with the quality, value and service. Simple cafeteria type diner-like restaurant as part of a grocery store. Great old-fashioned waitress service. Good simple food at good value. We went there twice. Would return for sure.
(3)Manish J.
this place has everything. wine, brew, produce, everything you want. they also have a redbox which you can rent movies for a dollar. they also have a deli. good stuff!
(4)Susan C.
Keep in mind that this is a restaurant in a grocery store...but still has a wonderful view of the palms in the outdoor area. Came here for breakfast twice since they are without a doubt the most reasonably priced restaurant on Sanibel. I ordered poached eggs and they were watery yet hard...very odd. Second time, I ordered the 1/2 pound burger, slaw and fries for $7.99 and could not make a dent in it. So much food for the money! My husband ordered breakfast both times and was pleased. They leave a coffee carafe on your table which is a nice touch. Ordered a slice of pina colada cake to go and it was delicious!!!!!
(3)V B.
It's not just a nice grocery it has a great restaurant. Very good seafood and great prime rib. We all enjoyed our meals. The side dishes were all fresh and tasty. You can choose the soup and salad bar too. Huge pies and cakes. The specials are around 15.00 and are a good deal for the money.
(4)Sara G.
Go to Jerry's for the bakery -- this is the place to order a birthday cake or buy challah or their delicious cinnamon bread. Skip the meat and seafood counters and go to Bailey's instead. The produce here is mediocre, a slight step down from Bailey's and nothing like the farmer's market.
(3)Rory L.
We bought chicken and got home to realize that it expired a month ago. When we returned it they gave us our money back and then put it back out on the shelf!! We told them that the chicken had gone bad and had an awful smell and they said it was still fine. So scary to think what other expired foods they might be selling
(1)Doc H.
Came here for breakfast on a Wednesday morning. Simple diner next to the grocery store. Food was good, staff was OK. Prices were about average.
(4)Melissa W.
Nice supermarket! Higher priced items but that's expected for the convenience of on island shopping. Only a mile from Sanibel Beach Club resort.
(4)Dewey C.
This is certainly the best supermarket on the islands. It's entrance is charming with parrots and tropical decor. The help is really friendly and wears nice looking tropical shirts. They have a wee restaurant connected and it stopped serving their well know and loved fried chicken. I can't imagine why; unless it's a health issue, but they always touted the fact that it was cooked in non poly oil. Oh well. The rest of the food is ordinary considering the fact that it comes from their own market. One can park underneath and elevator to the market in the summer which is nice. I've been a fan for at least since they opened and I check it every year.
(4)Kelly L.
I want to make mention of Jerry's in-house restaurant. What a find!!!!! We traveled to Sanibel with 2 young children and we ended up coming to Jerry's almost every day for a delicious lunch that always tasted great and was very fresh and to see the macaw "GW" that my kids absolutely loved. The service was very good, too. We didn't make it for breakfast, but I understood from a cab driver that they also have the best breakfast on the island.
(5)Jordan C.
This review is for the restaurant only... horrible service. The waitress was slow. Knew nothing about the menu. I almost got up to get my own refill. I ordered the salad bar and my fiancee got a sandwich... the waitress added 18% gratuity. I don't get it. Adding gratuity to 2 people? What's the point of a tip anymore.
(1)Ken P.
Coming from the cold of Wisconsin this has to be one of the most beautiful outdoor spaces of any grocery store. We picked up prepared key lime pie cups for a little dessert, price was right 3.00 each, not overly sweet but could have used just a bit more acid from the limes. Outdoor seating was a real treat.
(4)S. P.
Don't let the supermarket setting fool you. This restaurant is great. Top ingredients, very well prepared. This was the best breakfast we had on the island. Come visit and bring the kids to see the birds in the courtyard.
(5)B K.
I enjoy going to Jerry's on sanibel. I especially like the bakery. The chocolate chip cookies are fantastic as well as the doughnuts. Everything is baked on premises. I enjoy seeing all of the exotic birds before entering the store. My only complaint that it's prices are a bit high.
(4)Kevin S.
Jerry's restaurant for breakfast. Great little place tucked away next to the grocery store. Normal breakfast fare that is cooked fresh. Belgian waffle was a hit with a side of bacon, all cooked great. Fresh orange juice and you can taste how fresh it is. Very pulpy. Great place for a quick breakfast.
(4)Sean H.
Produce was horrible. Grapefruit bad, tomatoes bad, carrots slimy and apples were mushy.
(2)Rod H.
Great local grocery store. They have a great organic section and a great selection of wine and beer.
(4)Jim B.
Always stock up for the week at Jerry's. Very nice and helpful staff. Cinnamon bread is the bomb.
(5)Brian P.
The staff here is kind of curt. They must know that many who come to Jerry's are not from the island and are unfamilar with how Jerry's works. As such, maybe they should explain how you have to pick up your groceries in the parking garage. The parrots at the entrance are nice. But the store itself was 'eh.' It was cheaper than Bailey's on some stuff, but more expensive than Bailey's for other stuff. $15 for a tiny little bottle of sunscreen? Ouch, that hurt worse than the sunburn. The selection wasn't all that great either. But overall I did like it better than Bailey's.
(3)Catie R.
Worst service ever. Rude hostess, rude waitress and isn't even able to respond to our continual requests for our first order of coffee and water. The food could have been good, but the bad taste in our mouths for terrible customer service ruined it for us. Never again.
(1)David E.
Expensive but the only place on the island to shop for food. There is a small cafe inside and what looks like a decent salad bar. There is a parking garage and they load your groceries into the car. Make sure you stop and talk to the birds. They are pretty cool! They also have very tasty apple fritters from the bakery.......fresh.
(4)Rob B.
Jer's is a good island grocery. We needed a few items when staying for a week on a recent vacation. The prices are semi-decent...remember, you're on an island. They have many different shops and a coffee house at this location. They also have bird cages with exotic parrots in them. Some of them even spoke English back to us. It was fun.
(4)Jim M.
Great grocery store. I appears to have about anything you would want from a large selection of wine and liquor to food. Product section and pastries look inviting. Good selection of sundry item. This is the only place I shop for grocery when I visit the island. Restaurant is great also for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
(5)Alden G.
Best island supermarket. Stock up on water, sunscreen, snacks, wine, fruit. Check out the caged parrots in the atrium.
(5)Ashley M.
Sanibel is filled with touristy, overpriced restaurants. After paying $6.00 just to cross the bridge, I just couldn't justify paying so much for mediocre food. I found Jerry's on yelp and we decided to check it out. First of all, the grounds around the grocery store are gorgeous. A nice waterfall sits to the side of a tree-shaded courtyard. Surrounding the courtyard are various exotic birds in cages, most appear happy and alert, although one seemed a little stressed. We were able to the one closest to the grocer's door to say "Hi", but the others just seemed content staring back at us. The store itself is really nice, with a wide selection of freshly baked and prepared items. We ended up buying some Boar's Head cheese and some of their freshly baked rolls for a whopping $4.00! We had a great time munching on the goodies while driving around the islands.

Good food, good service, good value We have eaten at Jerry's for several visits to Sanibel and it's like a old reliable friend. Food is above decent. It's not spectacular or gourmet, but really good tasting, well served and very well priced for the island. Most dinner entrees include a trip to the salad bar and while the salad bar isn't special, it's nice to get a good helping of greens every now and then. The prices have gone up over the years (what hasn't?) but compared to other restaurants, I think this is still a pretty good deal. Wife had the seafood sampler with a good portion of grouper, shrimp, scallops, and clams. I had the grouper sampler with two big portions of crunchy grouper. Veggies and choice of starch (rice, fries, baked potato) make the entrees pretty good. Excellent and fresh with plenty to take home for another meal. The cafe is simple, clean, and service is friendly and prompt. As others have said this is not fancy but very relaxed and casual. You can eat at the counter or have some booths or tables like a typical diner. Food is a solid 3 stars.
(3)Wayne S.
Perhaps not as quaint and friendly as Bailey's, but every bit as fun to shop there. We love the exotic birds and super charming atrium, as well as the host of other gift shops etc... in the proximity. The bakery could use some improvement. The blueberry muffins were terrible, tasting like newspaper. In any case, we love Jerry's.
(3)J P.
Jerry's is one of our first stops when we come to Sanibel. We usually eat out while on the island, but stop at Jerry's to stock up on cold drinks, snacks, sun screen, etc. It is more touristy than Bailey's but has a great selection of all kinds of food, including gluten-free, plus beach/pool essentials, postcards, souvenirs, etc. Jerry's makes excellent key lime pies. It is so much more economical to buy whole pies at Jerry's than to pay by the slice at the restaurants. Everyone at Jerry's is friendly and helpful. I don't recommend the restaurant just because there are so many great places to eat on Sanibel, but the food is good and priced right. The rest of the shopping center also has some great shops, especially the one at the end, furthest from Jerry's -- best place for pool and beach stuff and t-shirts.
(5)Kristen S.
This place kicked BUTT for breakfast. I'm going to PRETEND it had nothing to do with the fact that when you ask for whipped cream, they bring a can. To your table. And leave it there for an undisclosed amount of time. And let you put as much as you want on your hot chocolate/french toast/on the baby's plate so she stops screaming. But I digress! Hubby had a breakfast burrito and I had the Cinnamon Bread French Toast. OhMyYum both were fantastic! The burrito was huge, with a rice, bean, and egg mixture. As I am sure you can imagine, black beans mixed with eggs do not look very pretty, but they tasted great! It was served with a side of fresh pico de gallo and sour cream. The french toast was made with cinnamon coffee cake slices and it was tasty! Was a little on the small side, so order something with it if you are really hungry.
(4)Jules W.
Always our first stop when we get to the island. Always have what we need.
(5)Roy G.
A nice place to meet locals for good food at good prices. Recent remodel improved the ambiance.
(4)Kassandra S.
Jerrys was wonderful on the Island to getting all of your grocery needs. We were camping on the Island for a week and were able to get everything we needed here. There is only one other grocer on the Island, Baileys and they are significantly more expensive. If you care for a treat, Jerry's Key Lime Pie is absolutely amazing and you can get it single servings!!!!!
(5)Phil R.
Clean, classy, and wonderful selection. Knowing I'd get to shop at Jerry's on a regular basis made the idea of living on the island that much more appealing, rather than just vacationing there. The reviewer who reported bad bread selection must have just been there on a bad week, because the first thing we noticed was the abundance of fresh breads to choose from. Produce was fantastic as well. The tropical birds outside are a real treasure, truly beautiful. The restaurant inside Jerry's isn't bad at all, either.
(5)Alexander C.
Jerry's carries a lot of vegan / vegetarian options. Not so much organic, but they seem to be improving on that front year over year. The prices are pretty reasonable. The only drawback is that getting your cart from the store to your car is a bit of a journey.
(4)Jody R.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a decent grocery store on the island with the bonus of not being outrageously overpriced. Some items were higher than back home, Chicagoland, but not bad. We also liked sending the groceries down the rollers at checkout to be placed in our car with no fuss. Nice touch.
(4)Ashley K.
Jerry's Food is where you go when you are staying on the Island and don't want to pay the toll to go back to the mainland to get groceries. It has a decent selection but it is pricier, since it is on an island. So keep that in mind. The baked goods are really stellar though. I highly recommend the cinnamon chunk bread. We even bought a couple loaves to bring home with us, because we enjoy it so much. The little plaza Jerry's is in is really nicely laid out as well.

The salad bar is what attracted me - it looked fresh and lovely and the Cream of Broccoli soup also appealed greatly. It was Thanksgiving Day, around lunchtime - long line of people waiting for tables, so my husband and I headed to the counter and seated ourselves there (there was nobody else seated there, and plenty of open seats. The restaurant was busy, but I still don't understand why for 15 minutes we sat there like chumps without anyone even so much as making eye contact with us. They absolutely ignored us - walked past us like we weren't there - and at one point I looked at my husband and said "are we here? Can you see me?" We had to stop someone and ask for service. And they weren't THAT busy - even if someone had just said "hold on a minute someone will be with you soon", we'd have been happy but they completely ignored us like we weren't there. ANYHOO..... finally when we got some abrupt service (our server seemed like she was doing us a huge favor), we ordered the salad bar (again, I couldn't wait to get into the cream of broccoli soup), and one of Jerry's famous sandwiches (egg sandwich). The sandwich was a big disappointment - small, more like egg and potato salad mixed together - but nothing worth writing home about. The salad bar on the other hand - was WONDERFUL. A great mix of fresh ingredients, good dressings - it was excellent. However, there was no cream of broccoli soup when I went to the salad bar - the container was empty - I asked someone if they were bringing out some more - and was told yes. We waited 10 minutes - still no soup. Asked someone again - YES it will be out shortly. Waited anotheor 10 minutes - and asked again - and were told YES it will be out shortly. I think it was half an hour and I was just about to give up when I saw someone being served a bowl of broccoli soup - that's the only way I knew it was ready. Nobody told us it was ready, in spite of our numerous requests. After that wait, sad to say it wasn't GREAT - it was not bad - it was just thick and not all that tasty - so I'd skip it if I was there again but our opinion is that the service was horrible - sandwich was average - but salad bar was outstanding. If we went back, we'd both order the salad bar again. And as for the service - we understand that the servers/waitresses may have been busy, but they really seemed to go out of their way to ignore us - no friendly smiles, no eye contact - like they wished we would just go away. First time ever I said to my husband "Don't leave a tip" (but he did anyway). Oh well. Go there for the salad bar. We will if we're back in that part of the world again.
(3)Leigh Anne B.
Didn't care for the salad bar. Dressing was not fresh. However, the grouper sandwich was fresh and apple pie was great!
(3)Ronald A.
You have been warned! CHECK EXPIRATION DATE BEFORE YOU BUY, More than half of the items I purchased were expired. To solve this problem simply choose the item in the back each time and it is easily avoided Also they have exotic bird exhibits that are CAGED UP in small metal bars. SHAME ON YOU! Release them or place them on a larger containment. These birds are stressed and ridiculed by children passing by each time by the hundreds daily. Only in the South does this happen.
(2)Les P.
A pretty good grocery store, although a litlle expensive. My one complaint is and I've heard others say the same. The workers at the register are having such a good time laughing and joking with each other, that they neglect their customers.
(3)Julie J.
I love this grocery store. Everything is always so clean and neat. The sweats selections is extensive. The feel of the place makes you still feel like you are in an island. They have anything you would expect to find in a grocery store at the same prices as regular grocery stores. Every time I vacation in Sanibel I end up shopping for the groceries here because its location is also so convenient. The grocery has also some stores surrounding it which gives it a nice feel with also a nice little garden in the middle. Since the grocery is in the second floor of the building, they have a pretty cool system of delivering the food to the first floor where the parking is. I recommend this grocery store for anyone staying in Sanibel.
(5)Mark L.
Super fresh food, but very skimpy. I ordered a corned beef deli sandwich which was advertised to be thick. Now, where I come from, a deli sandwich is very substantial with mounds of thinly sliced, warm meat. This, however, was the skimpiest portion of cold meat I had ever seen, even for a typical cafeteria sandwich.
(2)Heather D.
Even though we get the majority of our groceries off Sanibel. We always end up at Bailey's and Jerry's, the two markets on the island, several times during the week. Both markets are great. This year we tried a almond crescent and a pecan sticky bun. The bun was delicious. The almond crescent was dry to say the least. They always look dry, but I still felt the need to try. They need to perfect their pastry dough...not moist/buttery at all.
(4)Ryan M.
Great grocery! I chose Jerry's from Yelp reviews and the Yelpers were right! Great selection. Clean store. Friendly service. A bit expensive but not unexpected for Santibel.
(5)Rebecca G.
I really liked Jerry's. Definitely better than Bailey's-food was fresher, prices were better. They had a nice bakery section. Prices of course are higher than the Target and Walmart Supercenters in Ft Myers but for some grocery supplies this place is fine.
(4)Robert W.
The market gets a 5 star cause it was the best on sanibel....it is really nice. Good bakery, lots of selection like a real supermarket. This place and baileys would suit all your grocery needs depending on which side of the island your at. Jerry's food is more bright and up to date compared to baileys. I prefer Jerrys! Their restaurant on the other hand was very disappointing. We went there for dinner (based on yelp reviews.......THANKS AGAIN!!). Diner atmosphere. I liked the unlimited salad bar with your meal.. but the entrée itself was a disaster. Did not like the food... low to average quality.
(2)brad j.
This review is for the restaurant within Jerry's grocery. Best pancakes on the island and reasonably priced. We've been here often and the kids love the chocolate chip pancakes and I get the traditional.
(5)Max M.
It is what it is. A restaurant in a grocery. Simple, but fresh food served by a simple, but friendly staff in a good, but touristy (high) priced island grocery store. Accommodating, well meaning, but average. It is what it is. There's better and there's much worse. Decent go-to place for decent food and friendly service.
(3)Daniele D.
This is truly a 1-stop shop for everything you could possibly need when visiting the islands. It consists of a grocery store, bakery, deli, sit-down restaurant, walk up cafe and a plethora of souvenir options! The customer service was OUTSTANDING! The coolest thing I discovered is that before you arrive on your vacation you can order your groceries online and someone will deliver them to your rental, stock your cupboards and refrigerate your perishables. How freaking convenient is that? Creepy but convenient! The only thing missing here was a gas station. Jerry...get on that, will ya?!
(5)Kobus R.
When a restaurant is located inside a grocery store, one would expect that they would work extra hard to serve great food to overcome the low expectations patrons may have. No such luck for anything but standard breakfast. My scallops were cooked properly, but were tasteless and came soaking in a bland broth. The accompanying steamed zucchini, beans and carrots (how much cheaper can you get), were likewise tasteless. I should have chosen fries or baked potato, because the rice pilaf was sticky and disgusting. Stick to breakfast.
(1)Maddie W.
Great grocery store in a nice outdoor mall (I love the parrots!) They have a good selection of deli foods and breads from the bakery. Good selection of everyday items as well. The diner near the deli, same name I believe, is a great place for breakfast.
(5)annette H.
I love this place. They have a service that will shop, deliver and put away your grocerys for like 25.00. They have the best baked goods! They also have a resturant that serves home cooking style food thats pretty good and good early bird specials. The outdoor area is great very Florida, I love the birds. If you can get them talking its great.
(4)G Z.
Jerry's has gotten a lot better since we first came here 7 years ago. They could still use to vary their produce more. I wish they had more fresh veggies and a larger organic section, but it isn't frozen-food city like I remember it. I think they should expand their "health" food section, dominated by expensive trail mixes and bars. Perhaps introducing some new spices and condiments would be nice too. It's not like they go stale that fast, right? The beer selection is kinda lacking but you'll find all of the sunscreen you'll ever want in life.
(3)Jesse K.
The food was perfect diner-style food, which we wanted, since it was breakfast. BUT... There was a problem with the kitchen, as they kept messing up the order. (There were only two of us, in an empty house.) Our server was very friendly, and we watched her put the orders in correctly (we sat at the counter) but the kitchen obviously had something else in mind. My friend's order was served with grits, after he had chosen hash browns for his side. Easy fix, he had his hash browns after a quick request. Mine was served with a choice of toasted bread, and I had chosen sourdough. (One of my all time favourites, and I was thrilled they offered it.) Surprise! My order came out with toasted white bread, Wonder-bread, really. So I told our server, and she apologized and asked the cook - he said "nope that is sourdough." I tasted it, it was NOT. Inexplicably, perhaps thinking it was just over-toasted and unrecognizable (it was perfectly toasted) she had him make another order "less toasted." It was, of course, still Wonder-bread. Even the hostess, who wandered over to ask how everything was, said "oh honey, you're right - that is NOT sourdough." You would think that someone would have confronted the cook about it, but no, once he said it was sourdough, nothing more was done. I finally gave up trying and enjoyed my meal, sans toast-of-choice. This is my second dining experience on Sanibel, and I am not impressed.
(2)Julie R.
I really like Jerry's grocery but the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. It was ok, not expensive.
(3)Teresa E.
No trip to Sanibel is complete without a trip to Jerry's! It is one of only 2 grocery stores on the island and is definitely the nicest one. Jerry's is located in a tropical shopping center oasis and is home to at least a half dozen tropical birds. Jerry Jr. is the star and my boys love to talk to him and his friends before heading into the store. As far as grocery stores go, it is perfect for the island. The prices are ok, but the selection is rather large given the size of the store. (It is a small grocery store on an island, not the Flagship Whole Foods in Austin, TX.) The service is great and Jerry's is a great place to grab sunscreen and noodles and other beach accessories as well. Recently, they have added one of those Redbox machines that sell movies for $1/movie/day. This is a nice feature for the island, although it can get rather slammed in the evenings. The restaraunt at Jerry's is very tasty and well priced. It has the least expensive children's menu on the island and a terrific salad bar, where you can also get items to go. Although the little cafe is in the grocery store, the atmosphere is still pretty cool, since you are surrounded by tropical plants.

Simplicity is the name of the game here. No frills, no atmosphere, just good food. I tried the special which consisted of pot roast, potatoes and carrots that also included a trip to the salad bar. I cannot remember what my kids had but take that as ok, but not memorable. Tina from Germany was attentive but not invasive. We finished things off with a bananna cream pie...best part of the meal! There are many places to go, but if you are looking for good food at reasonable price, fit this one in during a week long stay.

The second part of the Jerry's Food is a restaurant. There is a great place for breakfast with a nice menu of comfort foods, eggs, bacon, omelets, hash browns, grits, etc. However, the service was SLOOOWWWW. I mean, slow! Breakfast should not take 2 hours! This is the way it broke down -- *There were two of us and we were seated after only waiting for a few minutes at the podium. Off to a good start. *Then we waited for menus, but this person could not take our coffee order. - Wait 10 minutes. *Then we waited to order our coffee, but she did not want to take our breakfast order yet, give us time to look at the menu. - Wait 10 minutes. *Then we got our coffee, but she said just a minute to take our order. - Wait 15 minutes. *Waitress takes our order. We both ordered omelets. - Wait about 20 minutes. (this time wait is acceptable, it does take time to actually MAKE the food) *Food arrives. The omelets were full of the yummies and very fluffy and light. Very happy with the food. *Had to flag down the waitress and wait for Tabasco, she forgot the catchup so had to wait for that too. (At this point I lost track of time) - Wait for bill, give credit card before even seeing the bill. - Wait long time, sign and FINALLY leave. Was it as painful to read as it was to sit through? I like to leisurely eat but I want attentive service. I don't want to be told to wait, wait, wait. I understand she was busy. They were probably understaffed and I still gave her a nice tip but it appeared that she was just not waitress material. She could not do two things at once and was easily distracted. The food was good. The management should make sure to hire staff that does not take away from the food and the "Island" laid-back feel.
