Wow so good. Rolls were good size and rolled fat. While everyone else in Navarre is wasting their time and pallet on fried shrimp swing by here and eat something fresh. Wait was a little long after they took our order, but you can't rush good food.

Had a meeting here with a group. The problem is, sushi is not within my area of expertise. I know it's either you love it or hate it. S N/A. Location- 3/5: This was a tricky one to get to. Coming from FWB/Destin and having to loop around on the madness that is 98, that costed points. But what made it worse was that I nearly passed it up and crashed after turning around because I didn't see the sign for it until the last second. Maybe a bigger sign? Lights? Advertising? Bigger location? Just ideas, y'all...something to consider. Food- 4/5: Once I got in and got my food, I must say it was impressive. In the group I was with, we mixed up rolls, and each one was great in its own way. However I was a tad thrown off when I ordered tea and was offered sugar water to sweeten it...uhh, there's already water in the drink, silly! Saying that, the bottle was pretty though. Pricing: 3/5: This what also got me. I dunno if you're paying for quality or if it's normal but, 5 rolls was approximately $50. Overall- 3/5: not too bad. However my issue is that even after buying 2 rolls, it was only filling for a little bit and was hungry again. Maybe it's me or is this normal for sushi joints?

Ohh man!!...I wish I had taken pictures...this was phenomenal. It what people call a boutique restaurant....rarely seen in these parts. It's like having a sushi bar worthy of San Francisco or downtown Waikiki, right here in Navarre, FL. Sushi was so fresh and creative...the blending of flavors to some of their creations (mermaids) was just absolutely incredible. I had Hot saki, Sapporo and a log of the Psychotic mermaid...wow!!!

Went with La Familia when I first arrived to Navarre. Very cute, quaint cottage and it sure doesn't look like a typical sushi restaurant, more like a brunch place. Not very many tables inside, but they also have outside seating. We were seated very quickly and our server, Mercedes, was very personable and efficient and gave us some time to peruse the menu and she answered all our questions very thoroughly. Very happy we stopped in because the sushi was fresh and delicious! We ordered the following with 2 Sapporo and Longboard Beers: Miso Soup, Poke, Steak Bowl (kid's menu), Cucumber Salad, the 40 Piece Sashimi Plate, Dragon Roll (2), Spicy Octopus, Garlic Tuna Roll (2), and New Wave Sashimi. The presentation of the food was top-notch (so pretty almost didn't want to eat it!). All were very Yummy and the price was very reasonable. We were a party of 4 Adults and 1 Child and the price was around $135 and we were stuffed and satisfied and had no room for dessert (which we will have to try on our next visit). It took awhile between orders to get our food but our server kept letting us know the order would be coming out soon and she always kept our water glasses full. We didn't mind the wait since we weren't in any real hurry and had a great and relaxing meal.

Found this place on Yelp as we were heading back home from a little day trip. I don't know what else to say besides Excellent! This place is very small with a nice beach vibe. The sushi was absolutely excellent. They offer different, Americanized takes on sushi along with the traditional. Definitely check this place out as soon as you can. Wish there were more places like this in the area!

The only and the closest Sushi place near destin and fort walton beach that I enjoy eating at, and I have tried them all... I used to live in California where they have some amazing Sushi joints, and this one is very comparable . I very highly recommend it... just had the Phsycho Mermaid roll today and was delish!!

  • Melissa L.

One of the best sushi places I've had in Florida so far. I wish their menu and venue were bigger. Quality is decent. I underestimated the place. Not bad. I wish they had more legitimate green tea, but it isn't something that'll make or break the place.

If you are looking for good sushi look elsewhere. With all the positive reviews I was very surprised. We waited at least an hour for our food. The sushi was mediocre, stay away from the miso soup and poke. The miso tasted like old socks mixed with old seafood. It was also expensive, for just me and a friend it was over 100 $. Go elsewhere!

What can I say about this restaurant..... AMAZING!!! We have been there twice and I really think I could eat there everyday! The rolls are huge and there are so many to choose from! I recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi or has never had it before and wants to try it- they have something for everyone. The crunchy crab roll is my face, I get it and then try something new as my second roll.

Really enjoyed this restaurant's modern take on sushi. The menu is very oriented to "American" tastes... mostly rolls that are made up of crab, shrimp, and tuna. There is also a large number of non-raw rolls that are clearly indicated on the menu. The highlights for me were the Hawaiian Poke appetizer and the Slippery Mermaid.

  • Maggie T.

We went on a Friday so the place was packed but we got seating on the porch immediately. I had the yellowtail sashimi appetizer with wasabi infused guacamole. Delicious but holy wasabi! It cleared out my sinuses. The Merman and Crazy Mermaid rolls were fun and delicious. My daughter got the Cali and Psycho Mermaid rolls which were also tasty. Great view of the water and sunset from the porch. Ceiling fans kept it breezy.

This little sushi bar is so cute. I can't imagine when it's busy. The place is really small. But I had an awesome experience with my boyfriend's family. The sushi was awesome. I loved it and I would totally come back here again. A tad bit pricey but it's the only sushi joint that is good within the area.

  • Jessica J.

My husband and I drive all the way from Pensacola to come here and let me tell you it was so worth it. Some of the best sushi I've ever had I loved it. The building is pretty small but it wasn't a crowded even with the place being full. If we ever make it back that way we will be back.

  • Eric O.

It was meh. I wouldn't go back. Nothing on the menu for non sushi people, which is whatever, but it wasn't great, not terrible, but not great. The sashimi cuts were very lazy and huge! They were just 1/4" straight up and down slices, and were almost impossible to fit in your mouth with one bite. The squid sashimi was horrible. I don't know how long it was sitting there, but a slime had formed on the smooth side, that would have made me puke if I wasn't OK with weird textures. The rolls were different, but decent. I'm glad we only ordered 2 rolls total, and not my normal 2-3 each person. I've eaten sushi from all over the country, and was an apprentice in a sushi restaurant outside Seattle, WA. I am currently stationed in Groton, CT, and am here visiting my family in Pace, and came to Navarre for the sole purpose of coming here. I've got to say, the marketing is great. Who else has ever driven 1400 miles for sushi? Lol Would have been 3 stars for average, but the squid really ruined it for me, and my guests. We had Sarah as a server, and she was great! Service was definitely on point.

Still live this place and it's been 2 yrs! Still super fresh! Love this place I could eat it every day!

My absolute favorite place for dinner in Navarre. Best sushi rolls I've ever had... anywhere. The wait can be long sometimes as each roll is prepared to order. I've been here about 20 times since it's opening a few years back. For sushi, it's an affordable price and their rolls are large. They have delicious miso soup, sake, and salads. I would recommend going earlier before the dinner crowd gets there.

    (5)
  • Lori C.

Really enjoy the rolls here. I love the different rolls that they offer. I do think the spicy tuna roll needs work. It seems as though they mash up the tuna instead of using a chunk of tuna. If i am ordering a classic roll, I expect it to be made classic. Save the exotic styles for signature rolls and such. Never have eaten inside- always seems cold. We do enjoy the screened patio.

Long wait for food. Come on. I had sat for a long time the finally it came. Food was really good. Mostly confusion with getting a seat.

  • Caroline M.

Amazing atmosphere and the best sushi on the panhandle!! Everything is always so fresh when I come here. I like the psycho mermaid, fiesta mermaid and the sassy mermaid rolls but there's such a great list and I'm pretty sure any of them would be amazing. Every time I've come in the service is great and really quick!! They even have an awesome outdoor porch that's heated in the winter. Slippery Mermaid has made Navarre an even better place to vacation and it's one of my favorite restaurants! Y'all keep it up!

The sushi is awesome... the service slow... so go with a good attitude and have a cocktail. You'll be waiting.....

I never give a perfect 5 out of 5 stars on Yelp, but 4 stars is more like my way of saying "YES I REALLY RECOMMEND IT!" :) First off, I'm from Hawaii & Japan. I KNOW good sushi. Even if it's "Americanized" and not traditional sushi from Japan, the Slippery Mermaid makes delicious sushi rolls! They're a decent reasonable size and always comes with 8 pieces. I've never had sushi with roasted peppers or even a tiny bit of lime peel (Sexy Mermaid). It's interesting, very unique. Even the names are kinda funny. :P However, their portion size COULD be slightly bigger. At home, I make sushi with more rice so it's a nice FULL bite of sushi. Also, their seaweed salad came in a super small bowl and I paid $4 for that!! -___-That's why I felt like I didn't get my money's worth. The price is like any other sushi roll restaurant; I was actually a little disappointed since we ARE in the Panhandle and I thought seafood would be SLIGHTLY cheaper. But nah. I've lived in Seattle and their sushi was the same price as here. Sad because Seattle is a major city too and here we are... in the rural part of Florida eating expensive sushi. Lol. I would also like the suggest... PLEASE hire at least one Asian, Hispanic, or Black! I'm not trying to being racist, but everyone who works there is Caucasian! -__-

I enjoy the imaginative sushi menu here. I had a roll that had tiny speckles of wasabi crunchies on top. I also enjoy the true Asian feel it had despite being a fusion restaurant. The decor was modern and the restaurant quaint with its tiny front room and covered porch in back.

  • J P.

We decided to stop here on our trip based on Yelp reviews. The sushi is amazing. We ordered 3 different rolls. Two were outstanding and the third lacked a little flavor but it was still good. The place is very small outside but the staff is very friendly. We went with our two babies and had a great meal.

    (5)
  • Amber G.

It baffles me that so many people like this place. The sushi is either a California roll with different toppings or a shrimp tempura roll with different toppings. There is nothing creative about it and the service is subpar at best. Last time we were there it was atrocious and I vowed to never go back. Unfortunately my husband loves it so I will probably have to at some point :( he definitely agrees about the service though.

    (2)
  • Chris W.

The best sushi I've possibly ever had. Sailor's Delight and Flaming Mermaid are awesome.

So yummy!!!! My personal favorite is Triton's Triple Tuna but everything I've had there is delicious!

  • B.J. B.

I read a review that mentioned that there was too little rice in the rolls. I guess the sushi chef took that criticism and went overboard because my crunchy shrimp roll was FULL of rice. There was barely any shrimp or avocado. Way too much rice. The negri was also served with way too much rice. Are they trying to cut costs? I've been to similar sushi restaurants that serve the quality of food found here but the prices are much more affordable. I think they are overpriced for the quality of food. I was disappointed and I feel bad because the staff is really nice and attentive. It's small, quaint, and people r willing to pay for good quality sushi. I'll be back in six months to check on the food quality.

A cute small sushi restaurant right on the water. They have great service and a huge menu! They accommodate any special requests/modifications to the rolls. You will not be disappointed, the food is great! I cant wait to come back and try something else!

Biggest sashimi I have had since moving back to south! Tuna seaweed salad was amazing! Beer was served in chilled glasses and we were pleasantly full off if every dish we ordered!!

  • Debby J.

Sorry guys, the sushi just wasn't good.. My boyfriend and I have eaten sushi all over the world and this was the worse sushi we had. The shrimp tempura roll we had was topped with a thick layer of chili sauce. Why is that? Now you can't taste either the shrimp tempura or the coconut topping. I still have a chili aftertaste in my mouth.. Also the other rolls we had weren't that fabulous as they sounded.

  • Crystal M.

the Restaurant is really cute, good atmosphere, excellent food, and reasonable prices. It took awhile for the food to come out but the staff was very attentive on refilling drinks. I had ordered the squid nori and or some reason it iddnt smell right to me. I told the waitress who was very kind, she took it back and brought out a new set. Which I really appreciated.

I actually have enjoyed the Slippery Mermaid the past couple of times we have visited. While their sushi is not the absolute best I have ever had, its still pretty good. Although I can say after reading the owners comments on both Yelp and their Facebook page, I won't be back. Not everyone is going to enjoy their experience, however the unprofessional responses I have seen by the owner has turned me off! Sometimes you just need to ignore responses or at least respond in a professional manor.... bad call on your part. Won't be back.

My boyfriend and I were on a roadtrip and planned Navarre as a stop. We wanted...no, NEEDED to try the sushi. Slippery Mermaid had good reviews, we gave them a try. The service was young and polite, a little slow moving but it's a smaller sit down place so there's no need for fast pace! We ordered three rolls, Dragon Roll was amazing!! The toasted coconut was delicious too and I am not a fan of coconut. I can't recall the third but I remember it had spice to it and "Mermaid" was in the name. We decided to order more! Narimi was spot on-the prices are too. Not too shabby of a bill when we were finished-but wouldn't move here because we would be broke! ;-) Edamame was perfectly seasoned as well. If you're a sushi lover- or trying to convince someone- take them here! Great job Slippery Mermaid

We've been here multiple times and we love the sushi. We came from DC where there are a lot of great sushi places and this is easily one of our favorite spots. It's small town florida meets contemporary sushi flavors. The service is nice and the food may come out slower than you may like on a busy night but it's worth the wait.

Amazing sushi and the staff are like a second family to my wife and our little one. Best sushi around, and way better than any chain restaurants in the area!

  • Ashlyn S.

AMAZING sushi. Service is hit or miss, but most of the time a hit. I've heard bad things about the owner which makes me wary but the food is so good I could never not go because of possible rumors. I wish they had more locations! Lovelovelovelovelove slippery mermaid. Plum wine is awesome as well. And edimame. And everything. Sweet tea is a little off

By far on the top of my list for sushi along with very known Buckhead Atlanta resturants. Definitely a must if your visiting or new to the area!!!!! Will be back. Very fresh and service was great. :)

Really good. Completely unexpected treat in Navarre...who 'da thunk! Very good food and very nice staff!

  • Nikki B.

I prefer this place over Sushimoto in Destin. The rolls are comparable in taste, but they are much bigger and more affordable. The staff could use a little more training in team work and customer service, but the food makes it worth it.

I have to admit... I was hesitant to come here because I had a bad experience with sushi in the past. A few girlfriends wanted to meet here for lunch, so I agreed. Surprisingly, there is a lot of choices for those of us that don't like raw food (or if you're pregnant and can't have raw seafood, like me). I got the Psycho Mermaid and the Peck and Roll. Both were delicious, but the Psycho was way better. The side salad with the ginger dressing is outstanding! I honestly cannot stop thinking about this place... might have to go back tomorrow for more! (Did I mention that I'm nearly 39 weeks pregnant and have massive cravings? Haha). The only reason I don't give 5 stars is the service. The waitress wasn't very pleasant, but my friend that goes there all the time says that's just how she is. Well at least she's consistent. Background: We came at 1:15 and waited until around 1:40 to order since our friend was running late. We didn't get our food until 45 minutes later and there were only 5 of us, each getting 1 to 2 rolls each. There was another table of two in the restaurant at the time, too, so it wasn't extremely busy. We came after lunch rush on purpose. I don't know why it took so long, but I will say that it was worth the wait. The prices are great. All of my friends seemed to enjoy what they had. One of my friends doesn't like seaweed so she got soy wrapper for the sushi and said it was awesome. I'll have to try that next time to see what it's like. Note: they do have a rice bowl that you can get chicken, steak, or shrimp on top for those picky eaters.

Small cozy place off the road, so sad I passed by it for so long. It's nice and colorful on the inside, the waiter was on his game, the food was on point as well. The seaweed salad with yellowfin was delicious and had great flavor, and the 3 rolls I had were beautifully crafted, and tasted very fresh. The price wasn't to shabby either. :-)

  • Kevin S.

Service is a little slow. The crabby sailor is my favorite so far. Only been here twice so far so I don't have much to go off of. Both experiences were great as far as taste goes. Parking lot is easy to miss and overall restaurant is small so it fills up quick.

    (5)
  • Paul G.

The sushi was awesome. They serve kona beer which was a plus and I had the IPA for $4. Service was very friendly. The only draw back is the limited seating. I definitely recommend this place. We will definitely be back.

This place used to be my favorite, so much to where after my Wednesday workouts my gym rats and I would enjoy our cheat meal here every week. Today the "Please wait to be seated" ordeal changed my mind. Typically no big deal to wait to be seated - heck I remember freezing outside and they made me wait outside for my party when the place wasn't even full (who has a hostess stand OUTSIDE? LOL) - but today it was ridiculous to wait for my entire party knowing they can literally see the building and I say they are right THERE (pointing to their car on the road). I wanted to sit outside in the screened area and I told the outside "hostess" I wanted to sit in the covered porch area so I was gonna go check it out. I went inside and there were 4 open tables so I stated to a waitress inside that I wanted to sit out there and my friends were almost here. I was on my phone and waved to my friend outside that I was on the porch as she was walking up. Then the hostess came to seat a family 1 minute after i sat myself and I was told that i had to wait for my party because "they (family) were there first." I stated that no I was there first and that is why I was sitting down at a table. Nevermind there were 4 tables there.... My entire party arrived a few minutes later and we left. I showed my displeasure loudly and obnoxiously. After choice words with the staff I asked for an adult/aka manager and the kid working there gave me her number. The BEST part of this is the accidental voice mail the owner left on my phone with her entire conversation with the staff..... LMAO! Thanks for the recap!! Baahaahaaa! Too bad Slippery Mermaid, Hello Sakura! They loved our $150.00 tab and we appreciated their service and their sushi was deeeelish! PS - Can't wait for the defensive comments from the owner! Looking at all the negative reviews for her eatablishment, the owner responded to their reviews with, "I will not apologize", "dont come back because my business is booming, go to Destin", and "you don't sound like a credible review so blah, blah, blah." Just figured I would beat you to the punch! ;) (Humming Pharrell Williams', "Happy"). Baahaaaahaahaa! WINNING!!!!

Best sushi in Navarre! Everything is delicious but try the chef's roll and you won't be disappointed! I've never had anything that wasn't amazing here however one little thing I would love is if they had hot tea and fresh brewed iced tea instead of gross bottled. Otherwise awesome! If you're in the area you have to try it! EDIT they have amazing fresh brewed tea now!

  • Sara S.

The rolls were made with too much rice and the fish was not fresh enough for my liking.

  • Monika L.

I have to rewrite my review cause the more I've been eating at this place the less happy I am. I still love the decor, not your typical sushi place style but so comfortable and inviting, small place with a huge charm. Recently we've been getting take out from them and it's been a miss after a miss, especially for my husband so we started growing out of love for their food. Time for us to venture out some more.

    (3)
  • Jackie U.

Great sushi and good service. They have a lot of variety and at a good price! I would have to say this is my favorite sushi place. They should open a place in Chicago!! A great place to come and relax. Love their outdoor patio!

  • Robinskii G.

Worst of worst sushi I've ever had. I got a rainbow roll, now you can't go wrong with that, its a bit of everything. The fish did not have their fresh taste, it was plain. it tasted "watered down" it lost its fishy taste. I wouldn't recommend any raw rolls. Maybe ... just maybe their cook rolls. But if you're truly going for sushi... don't come here. But if you're looking for fancy speciality rolls, this might be the place. Server is nice and friendly. But the service was SUPER slow. We put our order in at 7:08 and it finally came at 8:18. They were simple rolls too, rainbow roll, spicy tuna roll, and Dragon roll, which is cooked eel on cali roll. For waiting so long, they should offer free edamame or something to bypass the time you're stomach is growling. I think customers notice the time more when there isn't anything to munch on. Wouldn't recommend this place for raw fresh. And def don't come here expecting to eat right away.

Obviously the complaints are made by individuals who don't know good sushi, we are in Oklahoma now and missing their great sushi!

After returning here another few times, I've found that the restaurant has really declined in quality since I first came here. At first I just thought it was one time and that I'd be happy if I tried it again, but after the fifth underperforming experience, I had to say I'm done. Every time I've gone, this place is ICE cold inside. It's not a big deal, but when I'm coming in wearing shorts and a tank, it's hard to eat and pay attention without shivering. It's also run by teenagers and the food really reflects that. I've been here five times total, weekends and weekdays and I have only seen the manager (she should be in there making the sushi every day) once. That one time I had a really good experience. But when I didn't see her the food was average to poor. Most of the times I've gone now, the fish has not been fresh. It had lost the color that it had when it was fresh and had gotten warm. They still use that lazy sushi making machine (to supposedly make things faster), but it will still take 35-45 min to get your food when this place is semi packed. I can let the machine slide, since there isn't any trained sushi chefs in the restaurant, but the frozen (or just not fresh) fish is really a killer. It's sad, because there isn't good sushi in the area and I've got to drive to Destin or Fort Walton for good fresh food. The only way I'd return is if I heard the manager is back in there fixing things up and kids stop serving old fish.

Great sushi experience at an unbelievable price. We got 4 rolls of sushi, some sashimi, 2 bowls of miso, and hot tea and we got out of there for $60 including tip! Great experience. It was delicious.

  • Kris O.

Great place with moments of brillance. We arrived about 3:30p on a Sat and we were seated immediately. The service was right on par for the rest of the experience. My wife and I ordered the sunset, sunshine, fiesta mermaid, and flirty mermaid rolls, along with some edamame. My wife thought the edamame was undercooked, but it seemed fine to me. I was pleasantly surprised when the rolls came out sooner than expected, based on previous Yelp reviews I read. These guys certainly know a little about presentation as each roll looked like a wicked culinary artistic achievement. While three of the rolls were what I would call "boring" in terms of taste, the fiesta didn't disappoint. I think this is more an issue of personal preference rather than anything to do with those three rolls themselves. No, your probably not going to hear Japanese music playing in the background here, and the kitchen isn't likely to be manned by a guy looking like Hattori Hanzo (a Kill Bill reference for those who didn't catch it), but that's not what this place is all about. Think of this as beach vibe meets sushi rolls with a Tarantino type of attitude.

  • Andrew C.

I used to hate sushi but this place changed my mind. I had the sassy mermaid roll and crabby sailor and both were delicious. I am no longer a sushi hater. The ingredients were so fresh. Ricki is the bomb. Check this place out I promise you won't be disappointed. It turned a hater like me into a believer.

Great sushi, not too bad on prices and they have an outdoor area. Highly recommended to anyone in the area.

  • Vivienne S.

Limited menu, but pretty good. I'm a bit surprised by the type of responses I've seen to negative reviews by the owner. Not everyone will like your food or service; it just comes with the territory of owning a restaurant. Also, I think they have a right to their opinion - because it's obviously based of a sliver of truth. We won't be returning.

  • Kaj L.

It's epic! Great original dishes, spectacular quality, speedy service, good price, and the presentation is second to none! It's the best sushi place in town!

Absolutely delicious! Our family has a condo in Navarre that we visit often. This was our first time to even notice The Slippery Mermaid. We came into town with two other friends and decided to have lunch on New Year's Eve. At first we had to sit at the bar because they were so full but the second a table became availabe, we jumped on it! We ended up having a great time (lots of sake) and the food was way beyond our expectations. We all had a variety of items but I must say that the smoked salmon was the best I've ever had. We will definitely be back in the near future.

  • Michael T.

This place is nothing like any other traditional sushi place, but do not let that discourage you. The atmosphere is quite exceptional and comfortable with extremely friendly staff. It had been a year since I had first gone to Slippery Mermaid and had been wanting to go back when I was in town, glad I did. The menu has changed slightly but expanded in a good way, the new rolls are quite unique and honestly again am impressed that some of the ingredients that are used have never been used in such a way before. We ordered 4 rolls (can see picture) and the presentation is beautiful. Each roll is unique, flavorful and overall quite yummy. Do yourself a favor, if you love sushi and wish to have an experience you will never forget, try this place it, it never ceases to amaze.

This place was awesome! You'd never think a small place like this run by what appears to be a bunch of college students would serve up such good sushi and specialty rolls. It was a great experience for someone just traveling through town and using Yelp to find a place to eat. Well done.

We have been going here over a year for awesome sushi! This time around we got turned away because we brought some fries for our 2yr old...they don't have a kids menu and I haven't met a 2yr old who eats sushi. So I guess they just lost a customer...

I've given this place 4 tries and only once it was alright. Not sure what they're doing with their raw fish, I know all the sushi places around here get their fish from Joe Patti's but Slippery Mermaid's fish tastes watered down for some reason. I love raw tuna but theirs was just disappointing. I know a lot of ppl dog them for using a machine for the rice but I didn't think I was that bad. Even though we waited a very long time for our food the server was still very attentive and was quick with our drinks and appetizers. I recommend a trip to Juno's in Ft Walton, get the Red Dragon there.

The good for kids is BS, unless they eat sushi. They have no fried rice only sushi rolls, and they will not even let you bring in food for your kid. We even asked to sit outside to eat and wouldn't let us even do that. staff was very rude about it all also. Well they missed out on about $200 order. We had 7 adults and 3 kids under 9 y/u. All that rudeness for 2 happy meals!!!

The sushi is very good, but they are extremely slow!! Waited almost an hour for our sushi. Don't go here if you want to be somewhere else anytime soon!

Absolutely LOVED this place! Just moved to the area and I'm so glad we found some great sushi. The restaurant is immaculate and the atmosphere is fun. Beautiful decorating job! Super creative combinations and rolls, we tried four and they were all delicious! We will be regulars!

I ordered mine to go and it took about 30 minutes. The little seating host out front was super nice when he told me it was going to be a few more minutes. Not a big deal. It was nice out, so I just stood outside and took in the weather. I ordered the Psycho Mermaid and Tropical Mermaid. These were both delicious! I will definitely be going again as we have a condo in Navarre and I love sushi. I have eaten sushi all over(yes, I realize everyone who reviews this says this), but this was a great order and great rolls. I look forward to going back. So glad there is a sushi place in Navarre!

Great atmosphere! I'm from California and this place is the closest thing to having California's sushi! I LOVE the Psycho Mermaid roll! Highly recommend this place!

On vacation here with the family of seven. All of us ordered different sushi rolls, and all was very good. I particularly liked the pokie appetizer and the Psycho Slippery Mermaid roll was really good. Friendly service and great atmosphere. Will return here for sure.

I'm an avid sushi eater and the fare here is subpar. The rice in both the rolls as well as the nigiri was so tightly compressed that the grains were smashed. The rolls themselves were flavorless and chewy. The spicy tuna rolls had tuna inside that was shredded and ground up rather than actual pieces of tuna. Little variety in the menu considering they carry enough different kinds of fish to mix it up. The pros of this sushi joint were the quaint atmosphere and friendly employees. The seaweed salad was a substantially sized portion and the fresh salmon was tasty. I will not return in the future. Try either Junos or Yamato in Fort Walton Beach if you are a sushi lover.

I'll start my review by addressing something I've seen others mention, both here and on other sites, the maki machine. The staff at The Slippery Mermaid proudly display their maki machine which is used to keep the sushi rice at the correct temperature and moisture and is also used to lay out the bed of rice for the roll but not to roll it. Anyone who thinks this somehow makes the sushi less valid is just a snob. Now, onto the food and service. My lady friend and I were spending a weekend vacation in Navarre and decided we couldn't pass up a place with such an interesting name. It's a small restaurant with only a few tables inside and a small patio. When we got there it was quickly filling but that didn't stop our server from doing an excellent job of taking care of us. The sushi itself was fantastic. We had a spicy tuna roll, the Slippery Mermaid roll, the Red-headed Mermaid roll, a tiger roll, and a cucumber roll. The spicy rolls had just the right kick. The cucumber roll has a cream cheese filling, almost like a cucumber sandwich and was an excellent balance to the spicy tuna and Red-headed Mermaid (both of which were hot). Lastly, the price. It was a little more than I'm used to paying for sushi, but then again I live in New Orleans. Normally the rolls here are one or two dollars less, but that's a small price to pay for the really creative rolls that are being served. If you're in Navarre, be sure to stop by and have a bite to eat.

We enjoy sushi here on a weekly basis. Service is always great! I have lived in the local area since 2010 and this establishment has become a family favorite. Ingredients are always fresh and consistent.

I must say... total disappointment!!! Worst food experience i have EVER had in my life. Actually, of OUR lives. A group of of were craving sushi, we googled a few places around the area and came across this one. Pictures looked amazing and we saw it has at least 4 stars, well... Don't EVER believe fake pictures. First thing, we walk in and of coarse, we see 3-4 teenagers behind the bar, ok, thought that was kind of weird. Then after seeing that we realized how cold is was in this place. Freezing temperatures. So our party decided to sit outside. We look over the menu and realized that we were kind of disappointed in the sushi selection but whatever, we are spoiled in our cities so we just decided to order a few things and share. Before we got anything, we had received our beers. What a let down let me tell ya. Our beers were skunky skunky skunky!!! Not fresh at all Tasted like the beers were way over due, more like expired. We finally got our first dish, a side salad that was placed in the middle of our table for all of us to share. HMMM... where are our side plates? Anyways, our two rolls finally got brought to our table. Colorful, kind of messy presentation but seemed ok. We all dig in. Not impressed. Flavors clashed & there was too much going on. Second dish came out, our 15pc sashimi platter. I have never laughed so hard in my life!!! I couldn't believe it. I almost wanted to take my dish straight to the sushi bar and yell, WHAT THE EFFFF IS THIS?!!!! Are they kidding me? I really wish i had a picture of it to post up and share. It was the most pathetic thing i have EVER seen in my life. First off, the fish was all frozen, only frozen vacuumed sealed sashimi grade tuna is THAT neon pink in color. The fish looked like a 5 year old kid cut it and decided to have fun with their dinner plate and design a cute picture of slop. The sashimi came out warm, this was the FIRST TIME IN ALL OF OUR LIVES that we had to SPIT OUT our food on the plate. I've had some gross food before but have swallowed it in respect but... this was TOO GROSS. We were all scared that we might have the poopies later. Didn't want to take the risk of eating more than we did. Finally our last dish comes out, (thank goodness), pretty presentation though. The Poke tuna. (this was our appetizer and it came out last) Of coarse, I take the first bite. Eyes closed, as I cough! Tasted like they poured the bottle of garlic powder on this dish and it was so over powering, I almost just wanted to throw up. We just couldn't bare to even sit in front of this food any longer. We asked for our check, paid the $60 something dollars it was, which was the worst $60 something dollars that we have ever spent in our entire lives, and yes.. we tipped 18% because, it wasn't our server's fault that the restaurant has horrible food. Seriously, after that, we went straight to Publix, bought REAL FOOD, cooked it and kicked ourselves in the butts. This place is SO OH GOSHLY DISGUSTINGLY HORRIBLE that we had to get on yelp, and write about our experience. YUK YUK YUKKY!!! I wouldn't even recommend this place to someone I dislike. This is a disgrace to all sushi restaurants in the world.

I eat a lot of sushi all over the country. Amazingly enough this place has amazing Nigri and the complement of rolls were very well prepared and flavorful. I would have posted pictures but it was gone too quickly. Don't let the look of the place right near the touristy areas fool you. This is top quality sushi.

Great sushi place in Navarre. They have a lot of variety and the staff is very friendly. It's a bit pricey but just about all sushi is. I always get 2 rolls and that makes up a good meal and expect to pay about $20.

  • Veronica S.

First of all, the maki machine keeps the rice at the perfect temperature and moisture, so you never get stale or cold rice. It's an ingenious invention, and I don't understand why people are getting so worked up about it. They don't use it to make the rolls, just to lay down a mat of rice. Dennis G. and I were on vacation in Navarre. I was looking for places to eat, and how could I not eat at a place with such an interesting name? The restaurant is pretty small and filled up quick, but our waitress was very attentive and took great care of us. The sushi is mostly variations on California rolls, but it's all delicious and I'm not complaining at all. This place has it's niche, and it fills it well.

Outstanding! Hands down, the best maki sushi I've had in recent memory. The yellowfin sashimi salad with the wasabi avocado was sublime. The service was prompt and friendly. Considering the quality, taste and service, the prices are very reasonable. Cute little building just east of the bridge that begs a 'beyond casual' atmosphere.

This place is a little quite shack that is nicer than you would expect from just driving by. The staff is super nice and helpful and the seating options are great, you can enjoy the AC inside or sit out on the patio and enjoy the warm beautiful weather and view the emerald coast has to offer. The food is great as well and not at all bad prices. Their double eel roll is to die for and their crazy mermaid is delicious as well. Actually everything I've tried has been great. I was more than impressed with the quality of the food and the resturaunt as a whole!

  • Sara G.

I've always had really good sushi here - very fresh. It's a little pricey but what sushi isn't? Really, if you are eating sushi you aren't exactly trying to budget. That being said, it's not unreasonable. My husband and I can eat dinner here for around 40 bucks + tip. I was a little put off when I saw they use a miso soup machine, but it doesn't taste or look any different so I've gotten over it. One thing they do very, very well here is presentation. Every plate is beautiful. It's very small and intimate inside, but we've never had a long wait. I do think they might have to expand at some point in the future though!

This is not a traditional sushi restaurant. Laid back with their own spin on things which was refreshing. I enjoyed the sashimi and shrimp tempora roll I ate. Pricing was fair for the large portions. Oh and the beer was really, really cold. :)

I have eaten here twice npw. Both times I had the pyscho rolls. They were wonderful. They were very fresh and tasted great. They recently added more outdoor seating and I loved being able to look out at the water while I ate.

I love sushi, and just moved to this area. I yelped sushi places in Navarre, and since this had such high ratings I was excited to go there. Upon entering, I thought it was cute that it looked like a little house, there was maybe six small tables? it looked very quaint and private. We were greeted by a nice lady and sat down. We looked at the menu and was disappointed by the choices; there was not many options and it was missing a lot of common fish choices. There was about six different California rolls made differently. We ordered about four rolls. When the sushi arrived my bf almost laughed. There were rice crispies on top of one of the rolls as topping. Usually places put tempura flakes on top so this threw me off. I was hungry for some sushi but sadly none of the rolls were tasty, it tasted so bland. For a place that is so close to the water the fish did not taste fresh What made the experience worse is that they use a MAKI MAKER machine to make the rolls. When we stood up to leave, right dead center in their station was a green machine with the words clearly printed "maki maker". When we got home we googled it and this is the exact model that they have. autec-usa.com/products/n… The machine they have is the green one, the next model, the solid black one is advertised on the website as " The Maki Maker model ASM835A is designed to hide the existence. This model is perfect even for the user who does not want customers see the use of machines.." Are you serious? This machine does all the work, and even cuts the rolls for you. What makes me laugh is that they didn't get the black model that was designed to "hide the existence" from their customers. I just felt cheated. People go to sushi places and fork over 10 + dollars a roll because they know it is hard to make sushi, its more for the chef than anything else. It's just small piece of raw fish and rice but its more for the art of making sushi. I was very disappointed. On "about their business," they write "have fun with our professional and creative sushi chef." Creative sushi chef? Wheres the creativity in having a machine do the work? I was very disappointed. Our waitress was really nice though but I care more about the food since thats where my hard earned money is going to.I will not be going back to this place. I guess I'll have to make the long drive to Destin to find a good sushi place. Be aware they use a machine to make their sushi the next time you go there. They might hide their machine if/after they read this, but be warned they use a MAKI MAKER.

Yuck. This place isn't much better than grocery store sushi. Actually, for the price, I'd rather just go to Publix. They put a very strong smokey flavored salmon in my philly roll, the other roll had pieces of shell in the crab meat, the soda came out warm, edamame was tough, service was super slow, and it was freezing cold and it's tiny and cramped. Next time I'll drive the extra 20 minutes to Fort Walton. If you want real sushi that has flavor, go to Yamato's in FWB...it's the only place I will go from now on.

We discovered this little gem from a YELP search and it was so worth it!!! We were visiting the area and made sure to visit twice in one week. The sushi was beautiful and delicious. I would certainly recommend a visit here. We're waiting for them to open a sister location in Atlanta -- we're waiting for you!

Wow. This place has definitely beat out every sushi place in the area (and I've been to them all). Wonderful, fresh and original sushi artfully presented in a great atmosphere. One of my favorite things about this place is that the only thing remotely oriental in it is the sushi. Which means that you can enjoy great sushi without the tacky decorations & horrible music found in most other sushi places. Sorry, no big screen TV with bad foreign game shows on it either.

  • Dena S.

Yayyy!!! Sushi in Navarre! We went to the Slippery Mermaid last night to try out their sushi. I must say, I was impressed. We started with sashimi, which was beautifully presented and tasted very fresh. We also had a Dragon Roll and a Crazy Mermaid Roll, both of which were tasty and also artfully presented. While the menu says "no substitutions please", they were happy to leave the avocado off of one of the rolls and use fresh tuna instead of seared tuna on the roll. I got the impression that you could have whatever you wanted on your rolls.

Have been back a few times since the two times we felt sick afterward and have had no issues whatsoever, thank goodness! I moved to Atlanta two months ago and still crave slippery mermaid sushi! I guess I will just have to go back every time I come home to visit.

I went with some friends so I was able to try the shrimp, dragon, and California rolls. All were subpar. What should have been spicy was not. The rice should have been chilled, it was warm.... and too little. If wanting sushi, go else where.

I love this place and the food. I have a severe shellfish allergy, so I understand I'm taking a huge chance eating at a place like this. The problem is, when I tell the waiter that I have this allergy, I expect a restaurant to take the proper steps to make sure I don't have a reaction. Well, I ate there a couple nights ago and had an allergic reaction. I love sushi, but I won't be eating it or there for a while.

A million stars! I'm a sushi fanatic, and tend to judge sushi places harshly. I'll eat here as much as my hubby will take me!(he doesn't like sushi but goes because he knows how much I love it!) the sushi is fresh and delicious, the prices are great and the service is awesome. They're always really nice when I go :) the only thing I have an issue with sometimes is just how small the place is. I really wish they'd expand!! More sushi for me!

  • Meghan S.

This was a great little find. To start, it is the size of a shoe box. I don't think I've ever been into a full service restaurant that is that small. So beware you'll probably have to wait for a table. They do offer take away, so that is a good option if there isn't any room. The parking lot is also quite tiny. As far as the sushi, it was pretty good. I couldn't have the tempura flakes, so I missed out on what used to be my favorite type of dish. I honestly don't remember what I ordered, but I know one had steak in it. The host was really enthusiastic about it, so I tried it. I thought it was delicious. There were lots of options to choose from and several combinations I hadn't come across before. I'd go back if I lived in the area.

By far the Best sushi I have ever had! This restaurant is a nice quiet little place and even though they were busy, our sushi came within about 10 minutes of us ordering. It was beautiful and delicious and we will definitely be going back here!

Great local sushi, atmosphere and service. The Trey Roll is a tuna lover's dream. Give The Slippery Mermaid another shot if you had a bad experience, it's a small kitchen and establishment. You're on "island time," sit back and relax with a giant glass of wine or local brew as you wait for your made to order entrees.

Found this place on Yelp and was not disappointed. My wife and I ordered the Tuna and the Salmon Sashimi, and two rolls, the Freaky Mermaid and the Sexy Mermaid. After beginning with miso soup and edamame appetizers, we finished off with the rolls and sashimi. Everything was delightful. We went to the restaurant at 5 PM to avoid the crowds that follow. In this way we received prompt attention and our food was served promptly as well. Staff reported that the Slippery Mermaid has been in business for 5 years. Our first visit but not our last.

On vaca last week, ate lunch and dinner here. Always make the mermaid part of our vacation. Eaten here many times over the last several years. So consistent and excellent! We often eat in, but the to go orders are equally well presented. Service is always good, and portions generous. Love the funky, freaky and the red head the most!

I looooooooove this sushi. I've dined in and had take out, and their food is consistently great. My favorites are the summertime roll, sunshine roll, and the salmon roll if I'm looking for something raw, and the Poseidon roll if I want something cooked. I eat a lot, and I find that 2 rolls and a cucumber salad are all I need to feel full. In fact, my only beef with this place is that whenever we call in a to-go order they give us a time, we show up at that time, and we always always always wait and additional 15-20 minutes. In fact, this is so consistent that my husband refuses to leave to pick up the order until 10 minutes after our estimated pick up time has passed. He can arrive late and still have to wait! I wish they could figure out a better way to estimate a pick up time. That said, the fish is fresh and the rolls are beautifully made to order so I think it's worth the wait.

Some of the freshest sushi in the area. Wide selection of rolls... ask for a fatboy! It's a sushi burrito! I haven't had a bad roll! I love the tropical mermaid and the tritons triple tuna. Pretty average prices for a sushi place. Warning : their sweet tea is regular tea that you sweeten with sugar water. Takes a bit to get it right but still delicious.

The sushi is awesome... the service slow... so go with a good attitude and have a cocktail. You'll be waiting.....

I enjoy the imaginative sushi menu here. I had a roll that had tiny speckles of wasabi crunchies on top. I also enjoy the true Asian feel it had despite being a fusion restaurant. The decor was modern and the restaurant quaint with its tiny front room and covered porch in back.

We decided to stop here on our trip based on Yelp reviews. The sushi is amazing. We ordered 3 different rolls. Two were outstanding and the third lacked a little flavor but it was still good. The place is very small outside but the staff is very friendly. We went with our two babies and had a great meal.

Have been back a few times since the two times we felt sick afterward and have had no issues whatsoever, thank goodness! I moved to Atlanta two months ago and still crave slippery mermaid sushi! I guess I will just have to go back every time I come home to visit.

The fish is really fresh but all the rolls are cooked and lack creativity... they don't have real cups it ok my friends really liked it but it's not a traditional sushi place by any means

  • Amanda T.

By far the Best sushi I have ever had! This restaurant is a nice quiet little place and even though they were busy, our sushi came within about 10 minutes of us ordering. It was beautiful and delicious and we will definitely be going back here!

  • Christine D.

  • Ronald J.

I cant wait to come back and try something else!

the Restaurant is really cute, good atmosphere, excellent food, and reasonable prices. It took awhile for the food to come out but the staff was very attentive on refilling drinks. I had ordered the squid nori and or some reason it iddnt smell right to me. I told the waitress who was very kind, she took it back and brought out a new set. Which I really appreciated.

AMAZING sushi. Service is hit or miss, but most of the time a hit. I've heard bad things about the owner which makes me wary but the food is so good I could never not go because of possible rumors. I wish they had more locations! Lovelovelovelovelove slippery mermaid. Plum wine is awesome as well. And edimame. And everything. Sweet tea is a little off

The sushi was awesome. They serve kona beer which was a plus and I had the IPA for $4. Service was very friendly. The only draw back is the limited seating. I definitely recommend this place. We will definitely be back.

Service is a little slow. The crabby sailor is my favorite so far. Only been here twice so far so I don't have much to go off of. Both experiences were great as far as taste goes. Parking lot is easy to miss and overall restaurant is small so it fills up quick.

  • Hugo G.

  • Carrie W.

Great sushi place in Navarre. They have a lot of variety and the staff is very friendly. It's a bit pricey but just about all sushi is. I always get 2 rolls and that makes up a good meal and expect to pay about $20.
