I stopped in to pick up a quick take out and the inside of the restaurant is small but very pretty AND clean! Ithe buffet was being setup as it was around 11:30 a.m., I was thinking that a take out ordered shortly after they opened would ensure *fresh*! I wanted sweet & sour shrimp, asked if it had a tempura breading and was told no, but it is not heavily breaded. Once back home, discovered that the shrimp were butterflied, very thin, and over cooked. Fried rice. . . how can this be goofed up? The egg roll and wonton soup were good. I will NOT be going back, very disappointed!

Just to provide a little balance here (and a review that isn't 2 years old!) here's my take. My lady friend and I have been ordering delivery from Cheng's almost since they opened. We have never been inside to eat, we only get delivery, usually for dinner on a Friday. We have NEVER been disappointed with a dish Cheng's has sent us. Yes, I said NEVER, hard as that may be to believe. Also their delivery drivers are always smiling and friendly, we've never had a "rotten dumpling" come to our door in 5 years, so that says something. I love their Beef Lo Mein. Never overcooked and always tasty, tender beef with a good mix of stir fry veg in it, proportions are always right. Dumplings steamed or fried come with a fabulous ginger/soy sauce for dunking. I have often just gotten two orders of dumplings (which are 10 to the order for $5.45!) and that's been my dinner; way satisfied with them. My lady swears by their Orange Chicken, Orange Beef and the Egg Foo Young. She says she's had a LOT of Chinese food in her day, and it's some of the best she's ever had on a consistant basis, never a complaint. We've also ordered other dishes and never been disappointed with any of them. Give Cheng's a chance folks, I don't think you will be disappointed. And no, I have NOT been paid to rave about Cheng's, so get your cynical behind over there and try it for yourself!

The only reason I stopped here is because I was super hungry and wanted to go for a walk. I ordered veg fried rice and egg roll. The fried rice--burnt. I have never experienced fried rice as bad as this. Egg roll--decent. Service--you know, I felt like I was bothering the people who worked there, and all I wanted was a meal with some duck sauce. So wrapped up in their own conversation. . .no other customers were in the restaurant, I wondered why I even bothered . I felt sorry for coming in and disturbing them, and furthermore, paying for a sub par meal. Definitely not worth the money. . .or the calories. Next time I'll just walk on by.

Let me start off saying that I am extremely picky when it comes to Chinese. It's either too greasy, too breaded, or too much of a mishmosh of hard to decipher bits. Gross. But this little establishment pleasantly surprised me. The crab rangoon is to die for. My order of choice is chicken with cashews, sub broccoli instead of celery. Why 4 stars instead of 5 you ask? Last time I was there I asked for brown rice instead of white. "One extra dollar," the giggling teenage girl says. "Sure," I say. I get home and they have given me white rice doused in soy sauce. No no no. That is not okay. I disposed of the carton immediately and swore I'd never go back...but that crab rangoon is just too good to hold a grudge over.

Usually my experiences with chengs has been pretty bad. But this last time was really good. That's why I gave them three stars. Today I ordered delivery. I chose them over the other three Chinese food places in the area because they have a smaller delivery limit of only $15. I was only ordering lunch for me and my son so this was the practical choice. I got to lunch specials one chicken and broccoli and one chicken wings and boneless spareribs I also ended up getting pork fried wontons and I added their Chinese donuts. My order should have only been maybe $19 somehow it came out to about 24. I have noticed this with almost all Chinese restaurants no matter what I order it never comes out to what the prices on the menu say. The receipts are always written in Chinese so it's not like you can review them on your own being that it's a couple dollars and I'm not cheap I don't dispute it. The food was very fresh and it was very good. This was one of the best chicken and broccoli as I have ever tasted and I'm really picky. The Chinese donuts however had hardly any sugar on them likely since I order them delivery I have my own sugar in the pantry and I can sprinkle it on them myself. It's about 25 minutes for the guy to come so not very long considering they are a Little ways away.

Ok for takeout. I go there for the lunch buffet. About $6-7 per person. Can be inconsistent at times, but usually if its busy, the food is better because they are bringing out fresh food more often.

Made a recent visit to Cheng's and completely forgot why I stopped coming here (in favor of Chop Stix and Shanghai). My food was all of excellent quality, everything was fresh and I enjoyed everything that was on my plate. The only reason that I can think of why I stopped coming was my boneless ribs. Tastewise and quality wise, they were excellent. They were moist, flavorful and really quite good. The shape of the ribs were long, wide slices as opposed to the thin, red boneless ribs that come most other places. I think that I was shallow about having to cut my own meat even though the sauce is the same instead of having it hacked and sauced similar to other places. (Chop Stix cubes theirs BTW which I don't care for either). Try Cheng's, get take out to avoid any buffet issues and have a cleaver handy to whack large meat portions to size...and you will enjoy your meal as much as I.

Lunch buffet! I have never been there for anything else but I think their lunch buffet is good. The buffet isn't huge but if you like the normal stuff it's fresh and priced well at around $6 a person. Definitely worth a try if you are into Chinese food, in particularly if you like buffets.

Very average. The lunch buffet has maybe 20 items, but unfortunately they taste the low quality that the 200 item super buffets churn out. Nothing special about this small location. The interior is nice.

I was a fan at one time, but the last couple of times I have been underwhelmed. The delivery is quick, and I have never had an issue with service. The food seems to have lost some luster.

Alert! Alert! Alert! Cheap Lunch buffet! Only $7.45 per person for lunch! Be aware that there are only 2 buffet bars in a very tight corner of the restaurant. Even though it's quite small, I think it's enough variety for me. There were food such as general tso's chicken, spicy shrimp, mixed vegs, crab rangoons, etc. All the food tastes great! I had a bite of almost everything. It is not greasy or salty so you are not quench with thirst after the meal. The hot and sour soup is delicious. They don't go cheap on the stuff inside. It has everything. If you are a hot & sour soup lover, this is a place to go! Spicy shrimp was my favorite. The shrimp was crisp and the taste is just right. Not too spicy. I also like the singapore noodles. Not greasy. It gets pretty busy for lunch so get there quick! I will definitely come back.

The food here used to be so good. In the last 6 months, this place has gone downhill. Two weeks in a row, I experienced cold, soggy food. Such a shame. This place used to be really good and consistent.

First time there. Tried the buffet and really liked it. Singapore noodles rocked! Across the board good flavors. Tried almost everything on the buffet. I wish they had Tempura. The place is clean, but the booths a shopworn. The staff is polite and friendly. Our 2 buffets came to $ 14.97. Crazy good prices.

Terrible food, service, and conditions are now available at Chengs Chinese Restaurant in Lake Mary. We have been going there for many years. The food has been deteriorating the past few times we have been there. Each time my wife had to explain that she wants sliced chicken instead of chicken scraps in her Chicken and Broccoli. This time they did not even get that right. It was so inedible, she could not finish. My lemon chicken was overcooked, hard, and tough. I also could not finish it. I had a hard time swallowing the food. I kept waiting for it to go down. Finally, I had to go to the restroom to vomit my meal. The rest room was disgustingly dirty and run down. The rest of the place has deteriorated as well. We expressed all these complaints to the server. She did not understand what we were saying. She went to the manager, and came back after a while. She said they could not discount the cost of the meal or replace it. We requested the manager come to us. All the manager did was argue with us, and expressed how she does not understand what we are saying. They do not appear to understand English, and are devoid of customer service skills. They had never even visited us at the table to ask how things were. We did not ask to bring the food home. We usually do not leave food at a restaurant. In fact, I am very tolerant of food, and usually eat all that is served to me. I find it a sin to waste food. The food there used to be good. I could not find my credit card after I paid the check. I did not see it on the table, my pocket, or the payment folder. We plan never to go there again.

TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! Do Not GO Here! I pre ordered my meal 45 minutes prior to picking it up. When I arrived to Chengs Chinese Restaurant I had to wait an additional 20 minutes for my food! ( while on my 30 minute Lunch break). After going to my car, I realized that I wasn't given any soy sauce. I went back into the restaurant to ask for some soy sauce and the lady at the front gave me a hard time with giving me the sauce, even went as far as rudely handing me the soy sauce! Unbelievable! I went back to my car, when I finally tasted my food, the rice was not cook! there were bits and pieces that were still hard!. Chengs will never get my money again. I recommend you not going there unless you want to spend your money for poor service and distasteful staff. P.S- The only reason why I didn't give this place ZERO STARS is simply because there wasn't an option to do so.

Not a bad place to get a quick lunch if you work around the Lake Mary area. The lunch buffet is available during weekdays and has only about 20 dishes. Good enough for me and it is only around $7.

Decent lunch buffet. They have a very different take on Hot and Sour soup. Salt and Pepper shrimp and mongolian pork are my favorite buffet items. I ordered buddha's delight takeout and got food poisoning, and haven't been back since.

My wife brought home the chicken and broccoli and also the beef with snow peas. It had the fried rice and also white rice. 2 egg rolls and crunchy fried noodles and of course fortune cookies. It was all very tasty and very well packed and double bagged. My wife said the place was clean that she saw and the staff was very nice. I think some people just like to down some restaurants to build themselves up. For what she saw this is a nice place. The food was tasty and a lot was given for take out. Enough for two meals for both.

The lunch buffet is small which is good because it means that it has to constantly be replenished with fresh offerings. Delicious fresh offerings. The krab rangoons will keep you coming back. I quite like the dumplings, chicken corn soup (get the large), sesame beef, honkin' fried chicken wings which I get with curry sauce added-delish, The servers are decent, delivery is better.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
