The street vendor corn was quite good. The chicken and brisket enchiladas were also very good. I'd definitely go back again.

We are staying at the Marriott next door and this place beats the Marriott's food hands down. So much so that we just finished our second night in a row doing take out. The first night we started with the guacamole which was awesome. I had the pork tacos and my wife had the beef brisket chimichanga and both were amazing. Tonight I had the Three Amigos Enchiladas and my wife had the ground beef tacos. Again, awesome meal. The service when I picked up the take out was good but honestly, the food is what makes this place. Soooo good!

This restaurant is amazing!! They have wonderful service! The staff is very nice! Great restaurant, perfect atmosphere. The food was fantastic, fajitas are delicious! They give out free cotton candy which is awesome. Very nice service. They also have the best sopapillas ever!! We love sopapillas and that's are by far the best!! We love this place and are looking forward to coming back!

Lobster tacos & key lime pie were AMAZING! Many reviewers have said the lobster fajitas are great too. Will have to try them next time.

Señor Frijoles is my favorite stop on the bay. If you sit on the outside deck, you have a completely different atmosphere from inside. Nice to be on the water. Service is attentive without being annoying. Chips and two types of salsa are brought to the table. You can ask for their "hot sauce," which does not automatically get served. It is HOT! I love the beef fajitas, the burrito supreme and grilled chicken tacos (Mexican prep). If you don't want the beans and rice, order the tacos a la carte. Happy hour is 4-7 weekdays. Their margaritas are the best in Key Largo & just $4 on happy hour! Each one is made with freshly squeezed lime juice (yes, they really do squeeze their own limes). If you have children with you, ask for the cotton candy. It's free. If you want cotton candy, it is also free. Prices are very reasonable with most dinners $10-$12.

We stopped in Senor Frijoles on a recommendation after a day of diving. We just wanted to grab a couple of drinks and a snack before a late dinner. We walked in and the place was virtually empty about 4:15pm. There were only about 6 other people sitting outside on the patio. I really didn't know what to think about that. But we decided to go ahead and order drinks and have some chips and salsa. I ordered a Silver Margarita and my boyfriend ordered a UFO beer. We just stuck with the chips and salsa and ordered a side of cheese dip. They brought two kinds of salsa, a spicy and a sweet (which actually has a splash of orange soda in it for sweetness) - sounds odd I know, but it was actually good! The cheese dip was just okay, nothing fancy, and next time, I think I would just stick with the salsa. We sat on the back patio over the water. Prices were very reasonable and the staff were very nice.

James was outstanding from the time we walked in the door until the time we left. This guys deserves 10 stars. The food was great. Lobster tacos AMAZING! My wife is a vegetarian and James was quick to make a perfect recommendation. Thank you for your hospitality. A low key local feel, with a waterfront patio for that island ambiance.

Very good service and the food wasn't that bad either! Totally recommend the street vendor corn and guacamole but the Mojito was a little weak, and you could barely taste the tequila in my boyfriend's margarita. Bill came to $35 for 2 drinks and 2 apps, which I think is a little steep for Florida. I'm from Boston and I would expect that at fancy restaurants downtown, but not a place like this in between key west and key largo. That all said, the staff was very nice and it was a pleasant experience. Perhaps just plan to spend a little more $$ if you want a drink.

All I can say, is that I am not sure I have ever had a better meal in my entire life. The lobster fajitas were the best thing I have ever eaten. And the key lime mojito was absolutely phenomenal. The service was out of this world and made the experience. 10 stars for Senior Frioles.

The food was really good! They were very willing to cater to what I like to eat, and they went out if their way to make sure I enjoyed. The staff was very friendly and were willing to make us feel welcomed. Good selection of beers. Definetly worth stopping in for!

Located right near Sundowners and Cactus Jack's dive bar next door, Senor Frijoles offers comfortable Mexican dining in its waterfront digs. We were here with a private pre-wedding party on the back porch overlooking the marina. It was Friday night and holiday party season. Inside the main room, there was a "captains' party" going on (we were asked if we were with the captains). Indeed, some of the long-beards later stumbled out unto our deck not realizing they were crashing, but no harm no foul. The food was catered, but everything was delicious, from the salsa and guacamole to the bacon-wrapped jalapenos, shrimp kebabs, chicken, and steak. The key lime pie, which I'm not even a huge fan of the key lime flavor, was phenomenal here, the BEST I've had in the keys. Drinks were solid. A couple of decent beers, but margaritas are the way to go, really.

Good Salsa. We ordered fish taco and spline Texas enchilada which was supposed to be spicy but it was not. But stool food was good. The waitress was very nice. We will go back.

Great service, and the quality of the food was unexpectedly delicious. Get the fajitas to split, if you're hungry, or the poblano mahi mahi if you're craving a seafood dish. The chips and salsa are homemade, and the hot habanero salsa is seriously hot. Sit outside on the patio for a swell water view.

Loved this place. Set on the water, the evening is a great time to enjoy a meal here as the sun goes down and the temps are cooler. Love love the roasted corn appetizer with cumin, Mexican cheese and garlic aioli. Mmmmmmmm. I had the mahi tacos and they are fantastic. Very flavorful and fresh. Followed up with the homemade key lime pie, which was mouth wateringly tangy and delicious. The pie has a texture unique to this place...different from the other key lime pie I've tried in the keys...not rubbery nor chewy...had almost a limey-pulp-crispness to it. Difficult to explain...so try it.

Great food and great prices... Service was fast and they nachos for just coming in. I had the mahi mahi tacos which were recommended to me by our waiter and it was great ... Only thing the water view was not great but the food and service makes up for it...I would recommend

Ohhhhh boy...oh boy...I am so happy we stopped here ! Our waitress was top notch ! And most importantly the food was yummy !!! And the Key Lime Pie -- can I have seconds, pleaseeeee! Definitely a place we will be coming back too again soon !!!

Really a great meal and waitress ended being awesome. Fajitas as good as I've ever had. Free cotton candy for the kids after they finish their dinner. What else is needed?

  • Nichole B.

Food is tasty and fresh. Mahi mahi was outstanding and cooked perfectly. Chips were fresh and hot. Margarita was overpriced and I could barely taste the alcohol, so you might want to stick to beer. Lovely location with ocean view.

I visit KL frequently, and this one of my favorite places to go, along with Hobo's and Snappers. There are not a lot of filling, affordable options in KL that don't involve burgers or fish sandwiches. Senor Frijoles, on the other hand, offers more options than the average place, and you CANNOT go wrong with their margaritas. My favorite is the white margarita. The portions are large, the enchiladas, tacos, fajitas and chorizo with queso dips are delicious. The roasted corn app is awesome. The salads are fresh, well-sized and not an after thought like some other places in the area. Good, house made salsas are served with chips to every table and friendly service. If arrive by boat, you can pull up to the dock here.

Great food had the trio enjoyed it. Wife had the lobster fajitas. Had the soapapillas they were outstanding!! Drinks prickly pears were pour and devoured by a couple of our party quite enjoyable. Another fine place for food in Key Largo!!

I loved the outside deck seating at night on the water...really sets the right mood. We started off with the key lime pie and where key lime pies are a dime a dozen in the keys, it blew our socks off! It was probably one of the best we've had. There was a piquant drizzle of key lime that the pie was floating on, and there was a meringue versus some sort of cool whip combination as its crown of glory. I've already half forgotten with the key lime pie blinding our whole experience, but I think we had the mahi mahi enchiladas which were fun and yummy. They also bought up a plethora of salsas to my delight. They were still making it so it didn't come out right away, but I really enjoyed the sweetish salsa. We would definitely return if we weren't up for trying something new.

I will come back. Great tacos. I had the lobster beer battered tacos & smokin margaritas real nice. She had three hard tacos. All good here. Sit outside and enjoy the fresh air and sweet views of the bay. Or dock here with your boat. The "Gac" is awesome.

Salsa had oregano in it? Sure tasted like it. Odd.. After tasting the salsa, I decided I wouldn't venture far.. Ordered the burger and fries. Burger was outstanding. cheese, bacon, plump, juicy, nice bun.. Fries were greasy and limp. Not crisp. I would order a burger here again.

If I lived down here, this would be my favorite Mexican place to go. Everyone has a favorite Mexican place!!!!! Great outside sitting. Salsa is good. They give you 2 different salsas with chips. We like ours blended and theirs is chunky.

Not worth it. We waited 45 minutes to have a waiter come talk to us during lunch. There was only five tables at the time. The view is beautiful but there are four other places with the same view. The food was fine - nothing to wait 45 minutes for at all.

  • Dillon W.

The food was good, the Mojitos were great. Its nothing special, but definitely seems like a local hangout spot. The wait staff were friendly and attentive.

The food was good however they screwed up our order and told us it was going to be something that it was not. We were told we could order any of the fajita meat in a fajita burrito so I ordered the chipotle fajita chicken meat in the burrito. When it was brought to me it was clearly shredded meat. I asked the server what happened and he told me he was sorry but they would not put the fajita meant into my burrito and instead it was pulled chicken. He brought it out to me before asking if this was ok :(. I took a bite and it was not pulled chicken either but instead pulled pork. Very annoying but the fact that the food tasted good was the redeeming quality. They also forgot to bring my 1 year old sons rice and beans. They ended up bringing it with the check! Luckily my baby had fallen asleep and didn't realize he didn't get his lunch. I don't believe we would ever go back.

Senor Frijoles has a great view but the food was bleh. The salsa surprised the heck out of me, you don't go to a Mexican restaurant and expect the salsa to be sweet! My vice in life is chips and salsa but after 2 bites I couldn't eat anymore of the sweet salsa. I ordered the Taco salad with steak and it was so dry I had to douse it with lots of hot sauce to help it go down. The waiter completely forgot about us and hardly came back, it was our Anniversary and too bad the experience wasn't that memorable.

I had the Mexican sandwich and it was one of the worst sandwiches I've ever had. The bread was soggy and the salsa dressing didn't work. It sucked.

You might ask, what does Mexican food have to do with Key Lime Pie, well I have to ask what does Seafood really have to do with Key Lime Pie either, lol. This is in the top 2 of the best Key Lime pie I have ever had! Supposedly they've won a Key Lime Pie contest 4 years in a row and it tastes that way too! The food is also really good here, it's sad that I have to drive an hour south of Hollywood just to get good Mexican food :(

The food at this restaurant is more than amazing. My boyfriend and I love Mexican food and while on vacation in Key Largo we found this wonderful place. We went here two times in one week to enjoy their great Mexican cuisine. The first night we started with the chips and salsa along with the fresh guacamole. The guac was so fresh and mixed up right at our table. The salsa was great as well. I has the chicken tacos and they were amazing with a tangy chipotle taste and fresh toppings - Mexican style. My boyfriend had the beef brisket chimichanga which he also enjoyed. We of course also had margaritas which were yummy. Our second night we had bacon wrapped jalepeno poppers and the patron perfect margarita which is the best margarita I have ever had. For dinner I had the fish tacos which I am still dreaming about!! I can't wait to go back someday because I just can't keep to find anything like them. Señor Frijoles was reasonably priced and had great and friendly service. They also have complimentary cotton candy! A definite place to eat for Mexican food lovers!

We enjoyed our lunch at Senor Frijoles. We had the 3 enchilada plate, mahi tacos, nachos and the bacon cheese burger. All were very good (I personally did not like the flavor of the beef, but the pork was killer). The service was phenomenal and the kids loved the cotton candy finish. The waiter also suggested another place to eat that locals enjoy. We tried it and was happy we got the inside scoop. Thank you Senor Frijoles for adding to the vacation.

Awesome fajitas and key lime pie. Nice location in front of the water. Very tasty Mexican food. It's in front of sundowners and right before a Marriot. The staff is not the best but it's ok.

Very weak. Maybe it's East coast Mexican. Doesn't taste like real Mexican at all.

  • Gregory N.

You don't really think of the terms "Mexican" and "the Keys" together, but it works well at this place! We had a late lunch there on the back porch overlooking the water, and it was very pleasant. The food was pretty good too! Wife and I both enjoyed our meals. The setting was casual, the menu was thorough and not too expensive, and the service was very good. All around thumbs up!

Chips and salsa are awesome. Skinny margarita is the best margarita I've ever had. Homemade tortillas. Definitely a must have in Key Largo.

  • Lori R.

I was surprised by this place. I wasn't expecting authentic, homestyle Mexican and surely that is not what is served here, but the food was pretty good anyways - flavorful and fresh. The menu is a typical mix of burritos, fajitas, tacos, and some fish and seafood this and that. Not bad at all! The most impressive thing was the full page on the menu devoted to Tequilas and tequila drinks. They even have an '$87.00 Margarita'!!!! Wow, I didn't have that so can't tell you if its worth it or not, but the regular frozen margarita ($7) was very good!! The outdoor patio is nice and has a good view of the gorgeous bay. There's a building blocking the south end therefore robbing you from the most amazing sunset views in key Largo... You have to go next door to Sundowner's to enjoy that. But, overall the food here was better that expected, the drinks were good, the staff was attentive and we will definitely be back. Cheers! :)

I had the lobster fajitas and found very little lobster meat. Lots of peppers soaked in lemon juice. My girlfriend had the shrimp tacos which were good but not great. I liked the salsa and chips, but my girlfriend who has a more refined plate than I swore that there was a rancid oily aftertaste from the chips. Service was slow, but if you're out sunbathing on the back desk and have a beer in your hand, who cares? Coming from California, I must admit that we are probably Mexican food snobs.

Had fajitas that were doused in way too much vinegar. Yuck

Just had a veggie burrito dinner here with a queso fresca dip as an appetizer. Since this seemed to be the one of the very few Mexican restaurants in key largo, we decided to give it a shot. The food was just about okay. We are from the bay area so are used to eating very good Mexican food there. The margarita was pretty good, and made a great combination with the cheese dip, which was ridiculously yummy + unhealthy. The cheese was baked to perfection and topped with goat cheese. Yum! The veggie burrito came with no rice (not sure if that's normal here) and was super cheesy even tho we asked them to 'go easy on the cheese'. The guacamole was not fresh, and the salsa could have been better. The view outside is not as great as the next door restaurant, sundowners, since there is a big building blocking the the sun set view. Certainly not my top preference for lunch/dinner.

The owner contacted me to let me know that I had visited when their new menu was rolled out and so we should have had more meat on the kabob plate. We're not local so we probably won't go back but I do appreciate that he reached out to me.

  • Keith M.

Service was good considering we were the only table. Wife ordered the grilled chicken burrito. Very bland and had cabbage in it. Very strange. I ordered the trio of enchiladas ( pulled pork, carne asada, grilled chicken) pork was hot, others were cold. Not what I expect in Mexican food.

  • PJ B.

Senor Frijoles is definitely the "go-to" Mexican restaurant in the upper Keys. Their salsa is out of this world. Burrito and tacos are also extremely tasty and the food has always been fresh. It is a cozy, kind of out of the way restaurant that offers up huge taste with very modest pricing. Stop by and give them a try. You won't regret it.

    (4)
  • Yolanda L.

The chips and salsa are to die for! The chips were hot with a distinct corn flavor and both salty and sweet. The salsas were fresh and yummy. I think the are the best I have ever had. The waitress was prompt, efficient and took vey good care of us. I ordered tuna tacos cooked rare. Next time I will have them cooked a little more. Sundowners has a better view but Señor Frijoles is by far the better restaurant.

A great spot to grab some tacos in a very seafood filled town. Expect the kitchen to be a bit backed up on taco night. All you can eat Tacos happen on Wednesday nights for only $10.00. The only problem is all the tacos make you thirsty!

Good mexican dinners, including fajitas, tacos, burritos, etc. Not sure if this is typicaly, but they had free cotton candy both times we were there. Staff was pleasant.

Good fish tacos. Enjoyed the cumin mahi tacos sitting on the back deck. The Key Lime Pie is a pretty good closer. The service seems a bit hit and miss. Ours was slow, but I saw others getting quicker and more attentive service. Otherwise, all was good.

Please stop if you are in Key Largo. It was by far the best meal, best service and best drinks!!!! Our wait staff was so friendly and enjoyable. The lobster fajitas were out of this world and the key lime mojitos were the best ever!!! It was the best meal we had in Key Largo. Well done guys! We will be back!!

Drove to key largo on a whim, we had no plans, no destination. We just drove. Stopped at this place, we are both vegetarian at the moment so we figured mexican would have options. we had the veggie fajitas, which were good, I'm sure they would have tasted better with chicken or steak but i cant tell you. the guacamole was good too, but it was missing red onion a key ingredient in guacamole. they automatically give you chips and salsa. the salsa is a but too sweet but its complimentary so i wont complain. the corn was really good too. and we sat out side at night which was nice because we had water view and had the chance to check out the live band the restaurant/bar next door was playing at. I enjoyed the key lime pie. Partner in crime said too tart but thats what key lime pipe is supposed to be. It's not authentic Mexican but you are in key largo!! Keys are for fresh seafood. So don't expect Authentic mexican in the wrong area.

We walked over from the Marriott next door because on their website they touted fresh lime juice margaritas. However, when I asked...not so...they use sour mix. Big disappointment in my book. Next, on the menu was "Tableside Guacamole" okay we order that & our server brings a tray of disassembled guacamole & says " do you want me to mix this together or do you want to do it yourself?" Really? Just say " guacamole" if this is what you're offering. They had two salsas, not bad but sugar on the chips instead of salt. i like salt. Decent pour on the drinks, good service but was hoping for more.

We were hoping to catch dinner and the sunset at sundowners. When we arrived they had a large party pre-reserved. They offered us their menu at señor frijoles next door. I've eaten at señor frijoles several times and the food never disappoints. This evening we were a large group with several small children. Our waitress (I think her name was leti) was amazing. She brought us several bowls of amazing home made chips and salsa while we waited for our meals. The table ended up ordering from both the Mexican menu and the sundowners menu. The street vendor corn appetizer was incredible. I highly recommend the lobster bisque soup served in a bread bowl. Margaritas - Yum and yes please - by the pitcher. I had the lobster tacos which were to die for - no one had a bad meal. The only down side is that the kitchen is slow - but that is consistent with keys life - you are on vacation - order a second pitcher of margaritas and enjoy the view and the chips while you wait for an amazing meal.

Went for the 2015 "uncorked" event. We started the evening outside along the canal and order margaritas. Within about 15 min., the insects began feeding on us with a vengeance. We moved inside ordered another margarita and soon forgot the large red welts we now sported. The event "uncorked " featured half price margaritas and 2 for 1 fajitas. We had the chicken fajitas and our friends had the steak. Both were very good. The server was very nice and attentive. The only other complaint besides the insects were the portions. I'm never looking for large portions, only good food, but this was supposed to be 2 for 1. If I were charged $17.99 for half what we had (that would have been regular price and regular portion size) I certainly would not have been happy. These were obviously single portions with twice the number of fajita shells and two plates, and that is why only 3 stars. Don't say 2 for 1 and not serve two regular portions for the price of one!

I have been to Senor Frijoles in Key Largo at least a half dozen times. This by far, was the best experience yet (minus our first 2 min. in the place)!! We went for lunch around 3 p.m. on a Monday and it was dead. In fact, when we walked in, we had to search for the waitress. Finally, a friendly waitress greeted us and asked what we would like to drink. My friend and I decided to share the Key Largo Sampler ($14.00). The waitress cheerfully expressed what a great choice we made "because it has a little bit of everything". HENCE, the sampler part of the dish!! While we waited for our food, we snacked on complimentary, fresh tortilla chips and THE best salsa (the sweet and spicy) I have truly ever tasted. Once the "little bit of everything" sampler arrived, I was quickly impressed. It had 6 beer battered average size shrimp with a bowl of yummy orange chipotle dipping sauce, 4 chicken, pepper jack and Pablano chile quesadillas, 4 bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños and a bowl of civiche. The orange chipotle dipping sauce made the beer battered shrimp, the quesadillas were absolutely amazing if you ask me, the bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños were delish and the civiche was good, nothing to write home about...but none the less good!! We ended up asking for a to-go box because it was so much food. The cheerful, friendly waitress who offered up obvious information before, left us with the Senor Frijoles secret ingredient to the THE best salsa EVER....Sunkist Orange Soda. We didn't ask, but she obviously liked to give information out without a question. I also don't think it's much of a "secret" ingredient if you tell every customer. Maybe she should just say "surprise" ingredient!! lol I will definitely go back, in fact...I can't wait!!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
