New to area and have tried many places from Ocala to Crystal River. Toda hut I had breakfast here and it was super! Waitperson was very nice. Food was real fresh, tasted perfect, not greasy. Price was good and the place was very clean. These people care and it shows!!

Meh, there's better restaurants around here. I don't mind a no frills diner for breakfast, but it's interesting to see a few breakfast joints in the area (including this one) that serve Hormel corned beef hash straight out of the can. Two people in my group ordered it, and they hardly touched it since they didn't even cook or brown it! In addition to not cooking the corned beef, they also managed to not cook the potatoes, which were large chunks of semi-hard starch. Another person ordered a cheese omelet and thought that it was filled with Cheese-whiz. It was probably Kraft American "cheese", but it's no substitute for REAL cheese. My oatmeal and scrambled eggs were exactly what they were- nothing more, nothing less. Don't expect fresh fruit- the strawberries I got for my oatmeal came frozen, then thawed and come sad-looking when served to you. Lots of locals come here to hang out and chat up the waitresses, so it's fun to see that sense of community here. But if you're not a local and looking for a cheap sustenance (and don't care what it tastes like), than this is your place. If you want flavor, I'd go elsewhere.

The Highlands restaurant provides good food and an excellent value. We've eaten here a few times and have not been disappointed. The servers are prompt and attentive and the food quality is good. I don't know of any other place in the area where you can get 2 complete dinners (entree, soup or salad, potato, veggie and dessert) for only $13.99. They also make a decent gyro.

Immaculate dining room at the end of the night. Friendly staff who supported each other. Food was delicious and fresh. And only 16.95 for two adults! We'll be going back again.

Best home cooked food in town! Prices are more than reasonable. Breakfast Is always cooked to perfection. We eat here every time we are in town. Nightly specials come with complementary dessert. Two eat for less than $13. Fish dinner (fried cod pieces) is delicious! Husband loves the liver and onions Well, so far, everything we have eaten is perfect!

Meh. Might be a local favorite, but not really anything special. The salad dressing for the Greek salad was spectacular, but the spinach pie was flavorless. It looked beautiful - nicely browned phyllo - but it did not deliver on taste. The mushroom swiss burger was okay, but the mushrooms were canned and the fries were the barely cooked frozen type. All that being said, the prices were good and the staff was friendly.

Great food, fast friendly service, economically priced, and family owned. This is a first come first serve type of restaurant perfect for four or less. For large groups call ahead for availability or be willing to be split up.

Our new favorite place to eat...only complaint is that everybody else thinks so too! Go early to get a seat...food is excellent, service friendly and enjoyable. Bob & JoAnn Suplee

(Visit of Feb 25) We were looking for a clean diner in the area to have breakfast before going biking. Luckily, we found this gem. Some of the Yelp photos of area restaurants were not flattering; garage sale furnishings, plastic Party Supermarket table covers, smudged glassware, etc. We felt very comfortable at Highlands and the food was better than expected. The omelets will leave you full if you can finish them. I had the veggie and my wife had the BLT omelet. The ice tea was fresh and the service was on point. This is a good locals place where tourists can feel at home.

I like to try small mom n pop places. Has to be good and reasonably priced. This place was a bit disappointing. We showed up for lunch, was hoping to spend around 10.00 for full meal. We spent 18.00 and I had water, a fish sandwich and a bag of chips, anything else was extra. What ever my husband had was easily forgotten. We chose not to go back. Two stars because we got service and the bathroom was clean other than not having paper towels.

My fiancée and I were looking for a reasonably priced place to eat with his kids, our bill was 27 dollars, the food was great and the staff was friendly! Best gyro I have had in the south! We will be back!

Been here a few times, and food is always good. Complete meal 2 for $12.99. Can't beat that! Get dessert too with it!

I can't believe this Place has not been reviewed. Well almost can't if you look at the Clientele, they probably don't know about the internet, much less this site (Yelp) Mostly Locals and Older people. But let me tell you something I've learned, those people know the best/cheapest places to eat. This place is a gem. My wife and I are visiting Inverness this winter. Motelling it and we eat out a couple meals a day. We've tried a number of the local spots, but this one eluded us until today. We were headed south to Floral City and beyond, and my wife spotted it. "Lots of old people cars" She said. (Old people cars are Buicks, and Mini Vans). " Wanna try it?" I says "Sure" The Highland is just south of town right next to the Dollar General. If you're headed south, start slowing down when you see the sign. It's adjacent to the parking lot, If you get to the airport you've gone too far. We stopped for Breakfast, and everything was good. Coffee was good but not excellent. I had the Special Kielbasa Omelet (4.95) with home fries and Toast. The home fries were the way I like, previously boiled potatoes fried on a flat grill. Some are crusty, but not all. My wife had an egg, strip of bacon and a single pancake ($3.95). The egg was done perfectly the bacon tasty (must have been, she didn't share) and the pancake was just the way I like it, not too cakey, and a hint of vanilla. We liked it so much we came back that evening for dinner. They feature a daily 2 for $12.99 dinner menu that has something for everyone, unless you're Vegan. I had the chopped Sirloin, a dinner salad, baked potatoe, and rice pudding. My wife had the Chicken parm with Spaghetti and a dinner salad and rice pudding. We both had Iced Tea ($1.30) Portions were just right, maybe just a tad on the large size. The best part of the meal and why we're going back is it was all homemade. Nothing out of a can. The chicken parm was a pounded out fresh chicken breast lightly breaded. Very tender and flavorful. The chopped sirloin was juicy but not greasy, and fresh not Frozen. Very Tasty. The salad dressing was homemade, I had the House greek dressing. It looks... well interesting, it's sort of like chunky green mouthwash, but it has a very surprising sweetness, The waitress asked me how I liked it (I did) and when I asked what was in it, she said Honey and Avocado. Very unusual, but good. The rice pudding was again Homemade. Sticky, but creamy and a hint of Vanilla and Cinnamon. The check including drinks and tax was just under $17 Service was prompt, friendly and we were in and out in 40 minutes. We hit the dinner rush at 6 too and we got the last table. We'll be in Inverness for several more days. We're looking to try out as much of the menu as we can. This place is as good as home, and you don't have to wash dishes.

We went today for the first time and are very happy that we did. Service was very good and food was good. Homemade lemon chicken rice soup and bread pudding was great. Chopped steak for cooked perfectly. We will be back to try the breakfast. If the waitress sings when she brings my breakfast, I will give 5 stars.
