I love White Lion. I sit outside, with cats in my lap, drinking their signature tea out of a mason jar. There's live music inside sometimes. Desserts are homemade cakes and pies that someone made and brought in that day. There are fairy lights strung out on the patio. It's just a weird, unique, cool, "old Homestead" sort of place, that actually does have pretty good food - you can get a lot of healthy or vegetarian options, but also classics like meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The menu is pretty expansive and I've never had anything bad. About as far from the chains as you can get, and easy to miss since it's basically tucked back in the bushes between a middle school and a neighborhood. I don't want to go everyday, mostly because it's a little expensive for that, but I hope they're always around when I remember and head over - usually about every three months or so.

Very good food served here for years. Highlight meals. Piccata w red snapper. Garden bucket with shrimp. Chicken salad. Sea food salad on warm croscient. Deserts are homemade always a good mix. Special flavored tea. Great for lunch and dinner. Outdoor patio dinning is good if the weather is nice. Most dishes $10-13 at lunch. High quality.

Last weekend, my roommate and I were looking for fun things to drive to in South Florida, and White Lion Cafe in Homestead came up, so we decided to try it last night. We were intrigued by the websites advertisement of eclectic decor and live jazz and swing music. We got there last night (Friday) about 630. The hostess, who was also our waitress, was a little rude. Like she was tired and overworked. When we inquired about the live music, her response was "it's just Matt tonight." Obviously, we didn't know what that meant, but we just said ok. We were initially sat inside, but we were moved outside to accommodate our party size since we didn't have a reservation. Needless to say, I'm covered in mosquito bites. My latest count is 16. They should definitely invest in some repellants. As for the food, it was good. I had the art of chicken, which was a great pasta dish with a heavy dose of garlic. In fact, the only complaint anyone had was the quantity of garlic in our food. But the portions were huge and the prices were reasonable. The decor was as promised. Sort of like eating in an antique store. Overall, I'd go back, but with a reservation for an inside table and only after I called to verify music because our live swing and jazz music turned out to be a guy named Matt (albeit very good) playing cover songs.

The White Lion Café was a spot I found completely on accident, but definitely some place I would tell people to try. It kind of has that feel of a country cabin. Like that aunt everyone has that decorates from Kirkland and Cracker Barrel. Am I the only one with that aunt? The feel of the place, to me, is home. The men's restroom is set up like a man cave; full of superhero signage and a working stop light. There's mouthwash there as well for that after meal kiss. The portions are huge. I got the pasta bowl which was noodles with literally every (fresh) vegetable possible. It was enormous. You could add chicken to it, which I did, but honestly, it was so large I really didn't need to. The vegetables tasted like they were picked from the garden that day. The drink cups were huge, which is always a plus to me. The service was great. Very friendly and welcoming, again, I feel like they want you to feel like you're eating your meal in their kitchen. It's such a cute spot. Perfect for a date or a nice family get together. There is both indoor and outdoor seating for those great Miami nights. It's a bit of a drink unless you live in South Miami, but it's kind of worth it.

The place is very cute, I really liked the outdoor area. The bread rolls they first serve were warm and delicious. I ordered an entree from the specials menu which was yellow tuna over angel hair pasta that had artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and capers. Overall the dish was very yummy, but alittle too many capers for my taste. The greek salad that my entree came with was great, and I was really surprised at the large portion they gave. The entree was also a large portion. The only thing I didn't like are the stray cats that were roaming around the back area. They were hopping all over the empty tables and even hopped next to mine. It's not sanitary to have animals around food.

The fish was really fresh and the vegetable satay was great. The only negative was service was slow and I had to ask for the check

Why oh why did I try the homemade cakes?! Made by owner, they are good enough to be an excuse for sneaking over. Have yet to try anything on lunch or dinner menu that did not amaze me, not only with the over-the-top portions, but fresh homemade quality. Full bar that they are more than gracious to open if u so desire, and the staff makes you feel like family. I go every chance I get!

This place is like eating at grandma's. The portions are big, the atmosphere is cozy and the dessert is to die for! My only complaint is that they are closed on Sunday's. This is off the beaten path so going on a weekday is hard. We came for a going away lunch and it was planned in advance so we knew it was going to be an extended break. I would never come here during the week on a whim. But I will say, the food is worth the extra time.

This is an awesome place! They allowed us to come in a little before dinner started, which was awesome since it was raining. The staff is super nice, very helpful and definitely know how to be hospitable. The ambiance and decor is fun with lots to look at and conversation starters galore! Not to mention my son got a big kick out of the bathrooms truck collection. Food was really great! My husband and son ordered the dolphin special and really thought it was fried nicely as well as the portion size. I ordered garden bucket pasta with shrimp. Shrimp was the bomb! Loved all the fresh veggies. Thanks ladies for all the tips and great service!!!

Sat outside..very nice they had the big fans going. I had the grits and shrimp..very tasty and came out hot. My husband, unfortunately did not have a great experience. The potatoe soup was good but Luke warm..you need to serve soup hot!. He ordered meatloaf with homemade mash potatoes and gravy..what he got was ice cold meatloaf and auj ouse. ..no gravy..wth...the menu should state no brown gravy. Service was slow for cold food. Will not be back

Off the beaten path and adjoins a senior living facility. Love it here! It is like a little oasis in the middle of Homestead. Great home cooked food and kitsch atmosphere. Generous portions (I always take some home) and VERY reasonable prices. They are always busy for a reason!

I usually order off the specials board. I've been here so many times I've had everything on the menu except the PBJ &Dom. The cakes are delicious! One slice can easily be shared but they are so good that why would you!?! The soups are also quite tasty.

White Lion is a nice casual lunch spot! The service and the food are great! I had the Krab sandwich (comes with bacon, cheese, & tomato) on a nicely toasted piece of French bread. I chose potato salad for my side, and it was all good! The potato salad was homemade and delish! On the way in, I saw this display case with some larger than life desserts! After our meal, we were too full to order dessert, however, we were given a complimentary slice of chocolate cake for a very minor issue we had! I devoured a small portion later on that evening and it was heavenly! I look forward to returning to White Lion!

I was thinking today as my friend and I celebrated our annual Mother's Day get together at the White Lion Cafe that 'the thrill might be gone.' ....The restaurant is cozy and homey as always, sorta like eating in your northern favorite aunt's house, and the brand new (2nd day) waitress, Marlene was terrific, definitely an asset to their business,(hence, the forth star.) We both ordered the krab roll which is the third time I've had that. It's a tasty concoction of 'pretendo' krab, cheese,(melted is better, ours wasn't,) bacon,( The menu SAID bacon but I couldn't find any,) and the crab filling was very good..but the French roll it sat on could have benefited from a bit more toasting. It was very bready..sorta like thick white bread , no crustiness as French bread should have. Our French fries, crisp, fresh and cooked well tasted as if they had been dragged through the Utah salt Flats on the way to our table. I guess we should have turned them in for another side but they weren't baaad, just overly salty. Our dessert, a strawberry cake was prolly home made as they say everything there is, but for $7 bucks, it was a disappointment. really just slightly larger than the standard slice of pound cake and VERY 'pink' with real whipped cream but nary a strawberry smidgen, much less a whole berry in sight. Shoulda topped at no more than $4.99. But, that said, I still want to try the White Lion for dinner some night. Small child with us had a bowl of New England clam chowder with a curious pinkish tone. He enjoyed it. For me it was too spicy. Why New England clam chowder should be spicy is anybody's guess. Manhattan, sure, New England, uh-uh. Reminded me of the restaurants in Carmel, CA where EVERYTHING we ordered had curry in it! Udderdendat, I'll bet they lose business because the directions from MIA tell you to take 836 west to 826 south, (the Palmetto, Expy.), and get off on exit 6 and go to Krome etc. You will never find an exit 6 from the Palmetto,(826) They MEAN take 836 west to the Turnpike, get on going south and THERE you WILL find an exit 6. They need to straighten that one out.

Unless you enjoy ferrel cats in heat and gum stuck under the chairs, stay clear. The service staff are obviously kids from crime watch intervention and everyone had an attitude. Literally left before we even got the food/check, just flicked a nickel on the table for the faucet water. The owner wearing flip flops and desperately needing a pedicure, really grossed me out. Disgusting rat hole!

My sister and I arrived during the lunch rush. The restaurant was packed. We were told we had a 10 minuted wait. We sat in the cozy entrance and eyed their lovely open bar area and decor. Our hostess seated us in one of their rooms which was comfy and cozy. We both ordered the Mahi-mahi dippers with steak fries on a bed of lettuce with homemade coleslaw and a great big glass of spiced ice tea...absoulutely delish! The service was wonderful, our server suggested their decadant double chocolate cake for dessert and it was "to die for". Charming, quaint, picturesque...delicious food and great service. Thumbs-up!

The White Lion is a great little restaurant tucked away in Homestead. It has such a great, homey, old country feel to it- it's a former antique shop, from what I understand. The menu is simple and classic American; everything I've ordered here has been delicious. I've only ever come for lunch, but I've heard they have a pretty nice outdoor concert area and I think some nights they have live music too.

I must say that this place does have some amazing food! The decor and atmosphere is fantastic. A bit pricey but worth it. The couple of times I've been there the service was fine, not great but fine.

A very homey welcoming cafe with waitresses who have been there probably forever. The place is loaded with character indoors and out. I liked that they offered several non-meat options. I had their hot veggie sandwich which came on a big toasted roll with a side of feta and a side of salad dressing. I was hungry and it was good.

White Lion is a cute restaurant over in Homestead. I really wanted to like it, but the food failed miserably. The Brimstone sandwich is composed of a baguette with thinly sliced NY Prime Rib, grilled onions, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese. The sandwich comes with a side of 5 potato wedges. The meat tasted as if it was cooked on a George Foreman Grill rather than flame grilled. The best part of the sandwich were the fries. The Picatta pasta is made with Angel Hair pasta, butter, garlic, mushrooms, capers, and chicken. What I got instead was a pasta in a pool of butter, and a bit of garlic. The pasta started to take shape only after I added a significant amount of salt. Infact, the best part of the pasta was the thin chicken breast. Why did it get 2 stars? It's a nice beautiful place. The type of place where you could take a date and have a romantic private dinner. However, don't expect the food to win you any points. They also allow you to come in with dog and sit outside. Lastly, service can be slow. Especially, when the kitchen is slow.

It is a bit far and it feels as if you are taking a field trip because it takes a while to get there, but oh man!!! this place is fantastic. The atmosphere is great, you totally disconnect as soon as you arrive, the home feeling is awesome and the owner and staff are extremely friendly, super inviting. The food is phenomenal, a little tip, they serve a lot so from one serving two can eat. The ambiance is so relaxing and they have live music . check it out and I hope you like it....

This place is decidedly a mixed bag. It is a welcome change from other restaurants in Homestead (NOT fast food, or mexican, or a chain restaurant). However after multiple trips, my experiences have ranged from excellent to pitiful. Without going into great detail, I recommend going for lunch - not dinner - because the place is quiet, the service is friendly and the food is fresh. During the evening, the place gets rather noisy, the service can be spotty (even rude if they are in the weeds) and the food is not very good. The dinner prices are also rather high, considering the food and service. Also, if you have a problem with animals, don't go at all because there are cats roaming around everywhere (even inside) and they might just decide to jump in your lap. This didn't bother me but one of my friends freaked out because she is allergic to the critters. Another reason you should go during the day is that the surrounding neighborhood is very questionable; you are just a few blocks from a very rough, crime-filled area. Take this advice from a local who has now eaten at this restaurant 6 or 7 times. P.S. The "typos" in the dinner menu are hilarious! They should invest a little $$ and hire a proof-reader!

The White Lion was a place my fiance had to try while we were on vacation. He loves finding local places and discovering great food. We went on Thursday night, only to be disappointed that they were closed. Weekdays they close about 3, which seems like a silly decision personally, but we grabbed something else and headed home. Friday night, about 5pm or so, we tried again, and it wasn't too crowded which was nice. We sat up in a small room, and the waitress was quick to take our drink orders. She brought the specials board over to our table and set it up, giving us plenty of time to check it out. There were nice, tasteful decorations and good music that wasn't too loud. My fiance is vegan, and he was very satisfied with the options they had for him, although he did say their online menu was different than the ones we looked at in the restaurant. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience, and the food was tasty.

Little cafe located near other Homestead businesses. It's another historic-home-turned-restaurant. They also had spiced tea (I'm starting to wonder if this is a Homestead tradition) and again I was very delighted by it. The food: Vegetables are INCREDIBLY fresh, as they grow several of them themselves. They also have a large amount of veggie loaded dishes, which is awesome for those days when you're just in a "green" mood. And keep in mind that when I say veggie-loaded, I mean LOADED. We ordered two crabcake dishes (crabcakes, mashed potatoes, and steamed vegetables) and one "art of chicken" (pasta topped with artichoke hearts, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach and garlic). I didn't try the chicken, but it was highly praised and as for the crabcakes... Mmmmmm! The mashed potatoes were also pretty awesome, the gravy not at all being heavy and deliciously flavored. Before our entrees, we also split the "art of mushroom" appetizer (same vegetables as art of chicken, but topped over french bread). I personally would have preferred if the tomatoes hadn't been cooked, but it was still yummy. We wanted dessert, but we were too full. Service: Like many places I've been discovering in my new town, this one seems to be one of those family/close knit group run venues where regulars are always remembered and greeted warmly. Of the four parties that entered after us, each one was greeted with recognition and chatter ("How are you?" "How's school/work/etc?" you get the idea). Our waitress was very friendly and prompt. Also, when we mentioned we'd just moved here, she asked for our e-mail addresses for the mailing list. They send you daily e-mails with their specials and news about upcoming events. Other: Along with dining, there's a little antique shop you can poke through. There are also a couple of local kitties who wander about and an incredibly well-behaved dog that likes greeting customers. They have a large patio that hosts events (I know they have one for Halloween). I'm looking forward to dining here again!

Pretty good local restaurant in Homestead. The place is a mix of Sanibel Island/Florida Keys ambiance kind of restaurant. Had the Dolphin Rachel which was really good. Fresh dolphin covered with Provolone cheese, coleslaw, and avocado slices.

This is not the first time I have been here. All the food is exceptional and fresh, even the salad was tasty and colorful to be a visually pleasing presentation. I have never had the food overcooked, always perfect. The only complaint I have is the long wait for service, more waiters are needed for the rush hour. Many locals eat here, so you know it is great food.

Worst experience at this run down mom and pop shop. Planned on doing a wedding at this location just for price purposes but the so called owner Lori made our lives hell. Last min telling us stuff she didn't have when she said she did then raised price of food two days before. Not only all this but then wanted to charge us for asking her to take down her tacky halloween decorations. We then proceeded to ask for an itemized bill to know exactly how much we were paying and for what. She ignored the groom and walked into her own restaurant saying we were disrupting her business and caused a scene. Her drunk mother proceeded to rush outside in a fit bumping into the bride and pushing the groom. After all this is all the day before the wedding. She had two tables inside all day long and lost out on what she probably makes in a week. Yelling saying that she hasn't seen the bride or groom this whole time. Mind you we love 1400 miles away in New Jersey. Whatever you do please never do business here. If that's how she runs it it's not going to last long. Needless to say the wedding was amazing and got such a better deal elsewhere.

I have been here twice with my husband. Someone he worked with told him about this place and we have been trying to find it for about a year. So glad we did! The service is great, a real homey feel. The food so fresh and so good. We have left both times stuffed. So sad to hear people had bad experiences because ours have been nothing but great. The meatloaf soooo good and flavorful! The prime rib amazing!!! The desserts so yummy. If you had a bad experience give it another try because it is worth it. So good!!!

What a great homey lil spot tucked away in homestead. We had a nice Saturday lunch while playing tourist visiting coral castle. Saturday grilled cheese was delicious, obviously made of leftovers but what a great way to use them! The on premise made cakes are worth the trip alone, yum.

Animals (dogs and cats- too many to count) running around everywhere INSIDE and out. Dog/Cat hair (not sure which) was in our food. Enough said. Does the Health Department not inspect this restaurant or is it SOOO old Homestead that they're paying people off?

Overall pretty good. We had the grilled cheese (very good) with tomato-meatball soup (meatballs were awful but the soup was good), spinach salad (very good), artichoke-chicken wrap (tons of artichokes!) with pasta salad (dilly and delightful), the crab melt (real crab smothered in cheese and bacon!!!), and a grilled snapper wrap with awesome sweet potato fries.

I am giving this place a 3 star only because the food is good. How do I even begin? First of service is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not sure why people say it's great because it isn't at all. Came here twice & both times service was just AWFUL! Last time we were here the table next to us was also not impressed with the service. It seemed that waitress was bothered if asked for things (ketchup, A1, To go box). You know if the waitress bothered to come around & ask how everything was, you wouldn't be flagged down. Service is something that is required at most establishments. By the time we were ready to order it seems our wonderful waitress ran out of patience. We wanted to know what lunch specials were as they only have them up front on a board. She huffs, turns around and goes to get board. Well, wasn't that nice of her. She just laid board on floor on explanation no suggestions. Very impatient to just get order. Finally we placed order she never once came around until she brought our food. Once she brought our food sh never came around to ask us if we needed anything or if food was ok. When bill came she wasn't happy that we had split bills which we advised of in the beginning. So to say the least I will not ever be coming back to this place. Oh, did I forget to mention that they have cats & dogs! I personally found that to be pretty disgusting. You have these animals with hair flying. The animals were outside where they have tables as well. For me I found that very unsanitary & just nasty.

While it is a bit out of the way it is absolutely well worth the short drive west of Krome. The food is fantastic and the service is homey and outstanding. The ambiance of the old building, the patio and the small, intimate rooms makes for a laid back evening. There is a down side though. They display the most wonderful looking desserts in plain view where those of us who do not need it are tempted. Oh well, temptation won. They not only look great they test even better.

One of my favorite hidden gems in Homestead, this place makes you feel like you're in an old country home. The food has always been good, and the servers are extra friendly and accomodating. My absolute favorite are the many gigantic delicious home made cakes to choose from.
