Great location, ocean view, with outdoor and indoor seating. Food is good and not very expensive! Their sunset punch drink is delicious!! Best place to be on Captiva since most others are not by the ocean!

I realize this place has serious history on this island, other than the sunset, I think it's overrated. The food was just average, but I'd probably only go back for a draft and a sunset view.

The Mucky Duck has so much going for it, the awesome location, live music while you wait. Unfortunately the food just doesn't live up to all the hype. It is overpriced for the quality. My "Grouper de Paris", the house speciality was so ridiculously salty I could barely eat it. I should have sent it back, but our waitress J was such a total b, with her unfriendly nasty attitude, I didn't want to complain. The one and only time she forced a smile was when she brought the check, I think she was hoping for a good tip. She also did some lame trick with a fake ketchup bottle with a ticked off look on her face. I guess she hates her job. Disappointed.

This place is A-OK in my book. Lunch prices were reasonable. I had the pub burger, and not bad at all. Not really amazing though either. The best part about this place is that it's right on the beach and you can enjoy your food with views of the beach. Parking can be rough though, especially if you come for the lunch rush.

Great beer; ok food. Right on the ocean.

We went here twice during a recent visit. FYI..check the hours they are open...after a few blocks we realized they are only open for dinner on Sundays. Menu wasn't as large as I had hoped and neither was the bar. Gets quite crowded during peak hours. Not a huge liquor selection either. Quite a few places only have wine/beer license on the island. The staff was great and alot of fun. Recommends: The Bloody Mary, the Grouper Sandwich, Crab Cakes & the Clam Chowder. Walk right out the door to the beach. walking distance to where we were staying, but parking seemed to be ok.

Cool beach if you want to meet some people, and a nice view of the sunset. The food is average, but the bacon wrapped shrimp is very good!

Food is amazing. They're always busy, which is real good for a seafood place (to keep the food moving and fresh). No problems with service; they do a great job keeping up with the large crowd. They attract visitors from the beach as well as those who drive or walk but the atmosphere is kept up due to a shirt and shoes requirement. However, if you're visiting from the beach (since it's right on the beach), you can order take out food from the bar and they will call your name through the outside speaker when your order is ready. Very nice service for those people. As far as sit down service goes, you can sit inside or outside. Inside seating has a very nice view of the beach and the sunsets are incredible! I highly suggest this place for lunch and dinner, for all types of crowds!

I've eaten once at the Mucky Duck before. My first experience was pleasant. I remembered having a really delicious lunch salad. The Mucky Duck has been a Captiva staple since the 70's, and is seemingly always busy. The decor is filled with kitschy pub decor, like a collection of buttons on one wall, collected throughout the years. There's wood paneling everywhere. Be careful if asked if you want a window seat, they'll wheel up a portable "window" and set it by your table, or accidentally "squirt" a bottle of trick ketchup on you. This is the type of comedic and laid back atmosphere to expect here. It seems as if the salad is always a solid choice. The salads are fresh, and the dressings are all good. All entrees range from approximately $18-$40. Almost all entrees are $25, even the entree sized salads with a piece of added fish. I had the Grouper De Paris, which was $25. It came with a salad, a side of potatoes, green beans, and a piece of grouper sautéed in wine and butter. It doesn't say the size of the fish on the menu, but I'd estimate that it was a 6 oz portion. Other in my party had the boiled peel and eat shrimp, the seafood platter that consists of boiled shrimp, bbq'd bacon wrapped shrimp, breaded fried jumbo scallops, and "fresh fish" with a dill cream sauce. They don't say what the "fresh fish" is, so I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it was tilapia, because that was the fish advertised on the special menu served with dill sauce. Also tried were the fried clams, and the vegetarian platter. The boiled shrimp were ok, but didn't taste fresh, as they had a strong chlorine taste. I only sampled the scallops from the seafood platter, but they were surprisingly delicious, and perfectly cooked. The some of the clams were tender on the inside, and crunchy on the outside, however others were tougher than leather. I'm guessing some were re-fried, because it wasn't even the small pieces that were tough. The vegetable platter was steamed cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, purple cabbage, and a large tomato with melted Monterey jack on top. It looked like diet food, but my dining companion seemed to enjoy it. It was $18 for at most, $3 dollars worth of vegetables and cheese...yikes! Ok, and now on to my food, my fish was extremely overcooked. I was very disappointed, as I have not yet had a properly cooked piece of fish since I've been on the island. This blows my mind, as this is Florida, and Grouper is indigenous to this area. A restaurant serving it since the 70's should be able to cook a piece of fish like breathing. It should be a no brainier. The other problem that I had with it was that the butter sauce was not creamy; it was oily and runny. A piece of fish advertised as "Grouper Cafe de Paris" should have a creamy beurre blanc type sauce, which is a breeze to make. . It was also not seasoned correctly, and I had to add salt. If I can make a well seasoned beurre blanc at home, then a restaurant chef should not have a problem doing this. The green beans were very good, and my mucky duck red skinned potatoes were oven baked and very good. The upside to this restaurant is that it sits right on the water, so of course you're going to pay for the view. It's a beautiful place to grab something to eat after the sunset, but I'd recommend hitting it up at lunch for its views and much more reasonable prices. Another point of interest is the outdoor seating with misting fans, as well as a beach web-cam.

Good menu. Open on Sunday. Great place to watch the sunset. Great clam chowder. Definitely start with that! Full menu only available inside, along with wait staff. If you want to sit outside, it is appetizers only and you gotta get the food yourself.

Mucky Duck was very dissapointing. We heard this place was a must...not so much. The wait was to be expected b/c we went during Labor Day but the server was not friendly even though we were pretty easy going w/ how slow she was. As for the food, it was mediocre. We go to Captiva every year & we see no reason to go back to Mucky Duck. As far as the sunset comments, we could see it from the beach for FREE.

It has been a few years since I last dined at the Mucky Duck, but I remember a fabulous meal topped off by the best Key Lime Pie I had ever eaten. In fact, we have attempted to copy this Key Lime Pie ever since with various amounts of success, but always with rave review from our guests. The Mucky Duck was a wonderful way to top off our evening with great views and a wonderful sunset.

  • Rebecca M.

I LOVE the Mucky Duck. Yes, it takes a while to get a table, but that just shows you how great it is. If you get there early enough, you can put your name in, watch the sunset and then be seated. It's right on the beach and there are plenty of seats at tables, or just go sit on the beach. I've been there twice, so while I haven't had enough experiences to judge all their food, what I DO know is that what I've had was simply amazing. The first time I had their crab cakes entree which was cooked perfectly and tasted really fresh. But my favorite meal was the second time I was there - the broiled mahi mahi. It had this dill sauce over it and it was just SO good. It was extremely fresh and so tasty. It gets really busy in there, but I never had a problem with service.

I guess the Mucky Duck has a new owner, who doesn't really care about what his or her customers want. When we asked if we could get a burger for dinner like we did last year at dinner, the waitress said the new owner doesn't allow burgers to be served at dinner because they're not on the menu. Note to families: Good luck finding anything on the dinner menu for kids. The fellow, who is the host, is about the least friendliest person I've ever dealt with in the service industry anywhere at anytme. He doesn't crack a smile, acts like he could care less about his customers and quite honestly, I'm at a loss as to why he has been working there the past two years when we've gone there. For goodness sakes, get another job if you're so miserable! My advice, go sit outside and and watch the sunset, then go eat somewhere else!

  • Erica F.

It's a glorified tourist trap, they're basically famous for the sunset view on the beach. Mediocre English pub food, long waits for table & food, and not worth the price. (It's not expensive but the food is sooo basic it should be cheaper.) The waitstaff was really nice though, and there are fun decorations on the inside.

  • Jenn M.

The Mucky Duck is pricey, but the view is to die for, the staff were all very nice, and the food was pretty good, too. We showed up on a Thursday night in January half an hour before sunset with a party of seven and were seated immediately- Unfortunately it took dad nearly another twenty minutes to find anyplace to park our huge rental car. Their lot is woefully small. I love that they offer cheap half-pints (perfect to wash down your oysters without getting too buzzed) and offer a good selection of draft beers- we got the Kona fire island and Boddington's. The crab cakes, calamari, and oysters Rockefeller were all nice appetizers. The garden salad with the hearts of palm was great, the grouper cafe de Paris just okay. And the blueberry sour cream pie dessert was deeeeelicious! I'd definitely come back for that sunset view, but next time I'll probably skip the expensive, so-so entree for an app, salad, and tasty dessert. Or just grab a pint and a bench by the beach!

  • Brad V.

Strictly a restaurant review minus the awesome view. The food is upscale seafood in a casual pub atmosphere. The crab cakes were very heavy on the breading and around $28. The appetizer of barbecue shrimp contained 4 for $9 and were forgettable. The grilled chicken sandwich was standard, however the cole slaw soaked into the top and bottom of my bun and saturated my French fries. The verdict, this like many other captiva restaurants is a place that is comfortable serving subpar food to the throngs of tourists that will return time and again to this well situated joint. Go in expecting high prices and low quality food with a great view and you won't be disappointed.

  • Cassandra M.

we didn't actually get to eat at the restaurant. We arrived at 3pm & I guess they close from 3-5pm. odd. The location & view were great. There was a public beach access on premises. Parking was tough.

  • Michelle B.

I would give it 3.5 stars if possible. The food was average, nothing to RAVE about, but it was decent. They have a big menu. If youre in Sanibel / Captiva you have to try it out. its definitely all about the atmosphere. The waitresses are extremely friendly. They have indoor and outdoor dining so I guess it depends on what kind of day it is. They get very crowded so I suggest you get there right when they open (I think around 11 am). They start lining up the cars in the parking lot -- that's how crowded it gets. The restaurant has prime location, right on Captiva beach so even if you do have to wait, you can go down by the water for a few and catch some sun. I think its a great place to bring kids. I had the crab cakes which were really good, but I wasn't over the moon over them. Again, must try for atmosphere and to say you went. But if you can't make it, you're not missing anything food wise.

  • Kim C.

The service was lousy which was disappointing given the fuss people make about this place. The food is good though and the location can't be beat which is why I guess the bad service is tolerated. Sad to say the Mucky Duck is swimming on the edge of becoming a tourist trap.

  • Patty R.

Just a C. The food was average. I had a salad with a fish filet. $24. It came with clam chowder that was full of garlic. Strange. I have a cast iron stomach, and something I ate there had my stomach very upset. If you want a $10 burger and awesome view of the sunset though... You get it here. The wait was 40 minutes at 6:30 for a table.

Fun little spot on Captiva Island. I had the Dick strips. Breaded with almonds, they came with a delicious raspberry dipping sauce. Lots of outside seating too. You can also upgrade to sweet potato fries for $1.

I finally ate at the infamous Mucky Duck today. My husband's family has been going to Sanibel Island for 30 years and this place was their Thursday night stop every year. It's right on Captiva Island's beautiful turquoise beach. And it is always PACKED. Today we only waited 20 minutes for a table. We spent the 20 minutes sitting on the beach with a beer from their outside bar. If you want to eat outside, tables are first come, first serve. You can go inside and order your food and they'll call your order # when it's ready. My husband had a yummy hot turkey and pesto sandwich. I had a slightly disappointing seafood sampler. The ratio of seafood was out of whack - 90% boiled shrimp and only one piece of each other type of seafood. I had a margarita made of agave wine. It made for a sweeter drink. The service was pretty good - our server was really busy making 100 separate checks for a table of unruly elderly ladies so another server helped her out. Go teamwork. The server play little practical jokes on customers. I'm somewhat oblivious to everything, so the one they played on me made me scream and almost wet myself. The parking lot is an absolute nightmare (it's like that on most of the island) so bike, walk or take a scooter if you can so you can avoid the line of cars waiting for a spot.

  • Mike M.

From the moment we arrived there, 1hr before opening, we were hassled by the staff about parking in their empty lot. We fully planned to let the kids play on the beach until opening, have lunch, then move on. After repeatedly having my word questioned, I packed up the family and moved on. Shop motto, "Eat quick and get lost!" Don't know if the food was good and don't care. Captiva Island is not friendly to tourists who do not stay on the island. If you're there for a day visit, just stay on Sanibel. You're not missing anything.

This is a great place for some great drinks and an incredible sunset view. The music is pretty good considering the beach setting (I'm a musician so I'm super critical). We didn't get to try the food because the place was packed around 7:30 but it looked good. It's an Irish pub with a seafood mix. Great combination if you ask me. Heads up, they're closed on Sunday. We'll definitely try this place out the next time we're in Captiva.

We waited about 40 mins for a table, and I had a couple Corona's outside, listening to Neil Young and Van Morrison covers. Very pleasant with the breeze coming off the Gulf. Once we were seated, I had my usual Mucky Duck order, the Avalon shrimp, which was as good as I remember it. Also, the green bean's were less green then they've been in years past. (Which is a good thing). We went with my cousin's and aunt/uncle who were down on Sanibel at the same time. One of them actually got duck (I didn't realize it was an option .) and he said it was very good. Even though we were seated in the middle of the restaurant, they managed to produce a "table by the window". All in all, a great night out.

  • Dave W.

We had the first meal of our trip here and were very disappointed. First of all, why don't they offer service outside? They have prime location on the beach, but counter service to sit outside? smh....The food we had was not good. I had the fried grouper sandwich - it was very bland but the fish was at least fresh. Wife had the oyster "po boy". I've never seen a po boy served this way and hope I never do again. Prices seemed to be a couple bucks more per dish than everything else in the area too. Overall it was a very disappointing meal. Try RC Otters or Key Lime Bistro just up the street for a better meal.

After many visits for lunch, our first experience with their dinner menu was FAR more adventuresome and extensive than we expected from a beachfront tourist destination restaurant. Her breaded pork chop resembled a bone-in version of her favorite pork tenderloin and was quite tasty as were her garlic mashed potatoes. My BBQ shrimp and bacon were something quite special and new for me. I thoroughly enjoyed them along with the house special garlic roasted red skinned potatoes . DELICIOUS!!!

  • Miggy F.

service was terrible, but the oisters were pretty good, a bit to pricy, but worth the view of the ocean!

  • Ang R.

Get a salad. And get it with creamy tomato dressing. Best salad dressing EVER. Everything else is good. The fried grouper sandwich is pretty much quintessential Florida, and the fries it comes with are fine. Of course, the attraction here is the beach. The beach, and the sunset over the beach. I think it's worth it to go early (5:45-ish), get a table and eat, and then grab a table on the outdoor patio, get a beer, and drink in the island sunset for the next couple of hours. Bring your beer onto the beach if you want, and watch the sun die. It's a pretty great way to spend a weekend night on a Florida vacation.

    (4)
  • Kelly K.

It's been a number of years since I ate here, however, I fondly remember my delicious fish meal and watching the sunset on the beach just steps away. Go early because of long waits and crowds...casual place.

I love this place! Sunsets are beautiful and drinks are plentiful. Doesn't get much better!

Three stars for the food. Five stars for the service and atmosphere. Highly recommended. Price is standard for Captiva.

  • Jim N.

Even on a rainy day this is a great place to go. I say 4 full stars food was really good had clam chowder which was very authentic made with heavy cream and good sized clams even served with Westminster crackers which tells you they do quality. Also had duck-a-dills which came with only 3 smaller sized deep fried "triangle" "dilla's" but they were very good wished for the priced we had at least one more. Then wife had "steam pot" which was plenty portion for us both and all very good in taste not over powering on the garlic which most places do and they used old bay which was surprising given this is Florida not NE but dish worth getting. I had a modified sandwich version of their "crunchy chicken" ... I was seafoody out so with having had seafood every day before so in went with this which is served as an entree not a sandwich but I asked them to modify it all and they graciously accommodated and the chef did it amazingly. I love going to places where as a chef myself I ask for some challenging alterations to the menu item and they hit a home run. I wiped the plate with the last fry! The flavor of the fried chicken was exception and along a creamy garlic flavor. They have 12 beers on tap that ranges from domestic to imports and crafts.... Here's why it is not 5 stars. There is not a full liquor bar. Only beer and wine, this is shocking since this place is on the beach. I almost can't believe they don't do beach Fu Fu cocktails??? I like beer and wine but on vacation I like Fu Fu as much as the next bloke. I wished it wasn't raining and cloudy but they can't control that and I agree with nearly every sign I've seen here "attitude is a state of mind" if your here by the beach sun or not and at a great place just shut up and enjoy.....

    (4)
  • Victoria T.

Definitely go here for the atmosphere. Sand under your toes, tables and chairs with beautiful view and live music outdoors. It was a great night! The appetizers that you can get outside are nothing special and very greasy. The drinks are pretty expensive and you don't get much... but the atmosphere is worth it!

    (3)
  • Shelly V.

Great place to get Fish and Chips and a proper pint while sitting on the beach with your feet in the sand watching the ocean with a fully decorated Christmas tree in the corner of your eye. Like almost everything else on the Islands they close before prime time TV starts.

    (3)
  • Gary M.

Go to the bar outside, buy a few beers and enjoy the sunset. Then, go somewhere else for dinner because the Mucky Duck is overrated and overpriced. Trust me.

    (3)
  • Ellen C.

I'm surprised to see so many low reviews- I've always loved the Mucky Duck. We always went at least twice per trip down to the Captiva area, and I was never dissatisfied with my burger and fries. I like the decoration- particularly the apron with the break up letter, and all the Guinness toucan advertisements. On the whole this is a great place for families, and infinitely more fun than another chain like Red Robin or something similar. The waitstaff are always hilarious (those trick ketchup bottles!) and very friendly.

    (4)
  • Jennifer C.

Great views. Food is okay but not great. Would go back for a sunset drink and stand outside. Better places to eat at.

  • Yendi V.

It's the coziest most charming seaside pub I've ever been to! Worth the 2.5 hour drive to and from. Problem is that the food is nothing to jump up and down about. It was like I was eating at Deauville Inn. What I mean is the food is very American style, even though the original owners and establishment is from London. We were staying on the Island for a beach house summer vacation and of the 4 restaurants available without us having to get in the car, The Mucky Duck seemed like the place to go for a farewell night. During the week at sunset, while my family camped out and played paddle ball, drank champagne and collected seashells; the area by the Mucky Duck was packed with people checking out the most superb west coast sunset EVER! We showed up at 9:26pm and waited for a table for about 25 minutes and the staff was still smiling. Appetizers began with the Mucky Ducky Shrimp - breaded, fried and smothered in a buffalo wing tasting sauce (spicy). The clam chowder was very thick in consistency and seemed like it was sitting in the pot in the kitchen for a while. The food was alright, the company was probably the best part. The Lobster plate looked really good. The prices were a bit much. It was average $20-25 a plate and mid priced appetizers. We ordered no liquor because this was our last night, so detox was important, but the bar looked stocked with a really good beer selection on tap, with a full bar in service.

What can possibly be negative about casual dining on a white sand beach at a place called the Mucky Duck. I have heard it called too touristy. hmm. Its on a vacation island next to a 400 acre resort (South Seas Plantation), right down the street from the "Bubble Room," and its called the "Mucky Duck." They sell glasses and t-shirts too. No chef from the food channel is going to come waltzing out of the kitchen, but order a bunch of greasy food and a handful of tall pints of Guinness and you will be off to the races. It feels a little out of place in the Captiva white sand, wispy pine, environment, but I think that's the attraction for people who like it. There is usually a wait, but there is a bar and beach outside while you wait.

    (4)
  • Dylan M.

The Mucky Duck has a fantastic atmosphere. It is inherently an attractive location. The restaurant is situated almost directly on the beach of Captiva. It is a very lighthearted and fun atmosphere. There are a number of practical jokes that you may experience from the waiters (in a good way). The problem is, the wait time don't compare for the food. The food is by no means bad, but it is not worth the ridiculously long wait times to even get seated. The Mucky Duck has essentially become a tourist attraction. I wouldn't necessarily recommend the Mucky Duck, but if you're looking for a good atmosphere with pretty good food and don't mind the excessive wait, you should consider it.

Appetizers and beer on patio at sunset. Food was very good, so was the beer. Would go back for dinner if local

    (4)
  • Daniel S.

Scenery and atmosphere were highlights, food was not. The price of the food per quality is fowl..a lingering scent of something was really taking away from the otherwise chill patio...probably great for drinks...

My personal favorite on Captiva and anywhere else. I LOVE The Duck. This visit we did the outdoor sunset happy hour twice with music. Bring your bug spray and use it often! We ate here one night (my husband forced me elsewhere the first night). We had the bbq-bacon shrimp for a app - delicious! I got the Pub Burger which was stellar as usual. My hubby got the Shrimp sampler, which turned out to be a winner. Also, make sure to get the house tomato dressing on the salad. So good!

  • Chelsee M.

Beautiful setting right on the beach. Really laid back, it is a pub so anything fried is great. I will definitely be back when I return to the island.

A great location on the beach and great food make for a great overall experience. Worth whatever wait to get in you have to do.

What a greatr place to watch the sunset. My wife and I were lucky enough to get a booth at the window so we could watch while we ate our dinner.

Great place to watch the sunset and listen to live music. Wasn't impressed with food.

    (3)
  • J G.

Go, put your name on the list, enjoy a beer, people watching and staring at the beach. When your table is called, either have another beer or go home and cook a burger. In short, a great wait for a mediocre meal.

    (4)
  • Nancy M.

Beware, patience of staff is minimal especially during busy times. You should not feel bothersome for asking politely for something. Food is okay and not over the top. Fresh local fish is often not available and mostly fried. However, it is a great place for a cold beer on the beach and sunsets. Best to stay for only a drink and move on for dinner. Waits are nuts in the spring too,

    (2)
  • Shannon B.

Great food, unbeatable location! Customer service a little lacking.

    (4)
  • Bob E.

I would have given only one star but the wait staff was pleasant, prompt and good natured. The food is another story. My wife and I had taken some friends from up North out to see Captiva and we ended up eating at the Mucky Duck. My wife and I plus one of our guests had the Grouper sandwich which comes with fries and coleslaw. The fish in our (mine and my wifes) sandwiches was very "fishy" tasting and in fact I couldn't finish mine. Neither of us said anything to the waitress although our company seemed (and that is just "seemed") to enjoy theirs and we didn't want to complain in front of them. There is just no excuse for serving past due fish at any price let alone for $15 dollars a sandwich. Although the setting is nice, right along the beach...you eat here at your own peril.

    (2)
  • Michael L.

This is a great EXPERIENCE. The food is fine. But Sheila and I sat on the beach eating boiled shrimp and drinking beer while watching the sun go down over the Gulf. And that was all before our dinner, which was very good, but it's the first part that we'll remember.

    (5)
  • Mike B.

Of course, the MD is a great spot to watch the sunset... outdoors with a cold beer, listening to live music. It's a fun spot. But the food is not that great, and it's way overpriced for the lack of quality. My advice is to get dinner elsewhere after the sun sets.

    (3)
  • Jonathan W.

Great location/view, good food, great prices. Try the Mucky Duck Margarita! Great sunset view.

    (4)
  • John K.

Great food. Great location. Can sit out underneath a palm tree and watch the waves near the sandy patio while you have a cold drink. Went for dinner one night and they were playing jazz on the outdoor patio. Ocean is only like a 100 yards away. The only down side is the wait. Very popular. The kids' menu is a plus.

    (4)
  • M R.

Great location! Semi-expensive but like any place right on the beach you're paying for the location as well. Outdoor seating is umbrellas & round tables. Ordered blackened & grilled mahi-mahi one w/ fries the other over their spinach salad. Fresh & delicious and the blackened mahi actually had a great spicy flavor. When you can toss your plates in the trash and walk 30 feet to the ocean that's a big win in my book. Would definitely go again.

    (4)
  • Melanie S.

The Mucky Duck opens up onto one of the best beaches for watching a sunset on Captiva or Sanibel. Grab some drinks from the outdoor bar, enjoy the live music, and watch the sun plunge into the ocean. Be sure to get there a little early to insure that you can find yourself a parking spot.

    (5)
  • Jeff J.

This was a fun place to go---however, the food was overpriced and not that good. I did enjoy my dessert---and the waitress was nice---but not a good price for what I was served!

  • pamela b.

This is not that good. The food is blah, the inside is not the greatest. The server had no personality. Personality reminded me of McDonald's. No sense of humor! The salad that come with the meals consists of 5 pieces of lettuce , a little cucumber and watered down dressing. too expensive for what they have. Won't be returning!!! The don't even offer mixed drinks. so many other places down the street and on the island that you can go to other than this place. should be called the yucky duck!

prepare to wait if you're heading to this beachside retreat around sunset. i promise though, it is worth it. surprise surprise, just like EVERYWHERE else on the island they don't take reservations.

My husband and I have always been a fan of the Mucky Duck. It is one of only a few places on Sanibel/Captiva that have beach front seating. The food is good as well as the service, but the view is amazing and what you are paying for. On our latest trip, we didn't have a chance to eat, but enjoyed the music and drinks outside on the patio with our boys. The wait for dinner can be quite long depending on when you go, but relax and enjoy a drink on the patio and you will have a great evening. My husband and I enjoy dining here childfree, so we can really enjoy ourselves, but children are always welcome.

As a dyed-in-the-wool foodie (child of two foodies), I have to give the Duck the best ratings for the entire Sanibel-Captiva experience. Not because the food is haute cuisine, but because it is the best of its class, and the best for the money, and because I had not had a tomato that actually tasted like anything in several years. The fish is fresh, never frozen, according to the owner, and the dinner proved that out. Evertyhign tasted as it should I liked the fried fish better than the broiled, but who would not? it was a light batter and brought out the snap in the fresh fish. My dad brought me a t-shirt from the Duck in 1976 and I finally now have first-person experience to say: it's first rate. I've now been to about five dinner spots in the area, not much for comparison but two trips worth, and I'd say: if you live to eat, don't bother with the other places, just go here every night, eat well, enjoy the beach, and save the fancy dining for somewhere else.

Mucky Duck came highly recommended as THE place for a great meal and an incredible Captiva sunset. I was really disappointed with our experience, especially for the price. First of all, you have to eat inside the restaurant, even though there are 5+ tables outside facing the beach. The host boasted they had the best seafood on the island and that everything was fresh, so I was excited to try the seafood sampler platter - fresh fish with dill sauce, bacon-wrapped shrimp with BBQ sauce, crab cakes ($26). The menu sounded delish, but everything tasted like it came from the frozen food section of the grocery store and things were mediocre at best. The highlights of the meal were the rolls and the iced tea. I would've given them 1 star but our server was nice and kept the iced tea coming. As for the sunset, you're better off parking on the street, skipping Mucky Duck and bringing a picnic and a bottle of wine to the beach.

Great place to catch a sunset. Good food, fun atmosphere with live music outside. Definitely a must for any Sanibel/Captiva vacation!

Long wait but worth it. Fish and chips, got the food quick, the wife had the fish of the day. She enjoyed it, not to fishy, fries were good too. Quick service as well. They always have a seat next to the window;-)

This is one of my favorite places to go when on my motorcycle... The food is great and the seating and the view outside is even better. What I really like is their prices - food and drinks are not overpriced like other beach locations like to do around here. The staff is really friendly... I was never disappointed and will certainly go back.

Come here on a sunny night to watch the sunset. Interesting place on the beach. Duck appetizer was outstanding. Main courses were overpriced and mediocre. Probably better off going here for drinks and appetizers to watch the sunset. No hard alcohol but the wine margarita was decent.

I expected a scenic, tourist trap. Boy, was I wrong. Both the food and the view were excellent. My wife had a very fresh, very large garden salad. I had exquisite Oysters Rockefeller. We shared greaseless, crisp onion rings. I will return on my next visit to Captiva.

Let's be honest. Nobody really comes to this restaurant because the food is top quality. We all come for the view. The food was typical bar food really, and was pretty hit or miss. I had great swordfish, but my Dad ended up with a chicken nugget in his fish and chips so if you're looking for amazing food this is not the place. What you pay for here is the beach and the view as the sun sets over the ocean and that to me was pretty worth it.

  • Kent N.

Good honest food and nice place to watch the sunset. Get here around 4:30 to put your name in for first seating at 5:00. You'll want a "Table by the Window". Suzi is great.

Stopped in for lunch and some drinks. My man had a LandShark and I had a Rum Punch. The Rum Punch was decent, so no complaints there. My man had a bowl of clam chowder, and he said it was good but that Doc Ford's was better. He had the Duck Duck Shrimp and although he enjoyed it, he said it wasn't anything special. I had a chicken burrito, which I thought was pretty tasty. The only issue is that the guacamole wasn't really guacamole- it was just avocado with nothing else. Not complaining too much, it's still avocado! All in all, the Mucky Duck wasn't too bad. We would probably go back but not before trying some of Captiva's other eateries.

This was our second trip and we've enjoyed it both times. Food was good, drinks were a bit weak, and our waitress was all business- no pleasantries at all!- but the sunset view makes it all worth while. Must go!

  • Caitlin J.

Amazing view that is great for sunset drinks and apps. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. Prime location right on the beach and you can do outdoor searing on their patio with an outdoor bar and live music and get take-out. Great atmosphere.

The food was good, what you would expect for fried seafood. My boyfriend and I split the seafood platter. However the service was great. Our waitress was extremely nice and helped us with some suggestions for what to do for the day. The food was a 3 but the service was a 5.

Good place - a bit crowded inside though unfortunately. Had the salmon - a bit crunchy but tasted great with salt and it came with fruit - cantaloupe, strawberries, pineapple, and more. Fries were very good. For dessert had the walnut brownie sundae - lots of whip cream and fills you up. Overall, a good place to go to eat.

Mucky Duck - A Must! A perennial favorite! We scored a window table after just a 15 minute wait. Enjoyed drinks, calamari while waiting. Note that they do not have a full bar but pour heavily. Loved the rum punch and lots of beers on tap. Two of us had the seafood platter and loved it. Salmon en croute was enjoyed by my daughter. Husband loved the beer battered shrimp. Our 17 year old had the Fish and chips and just not enough food for a football player. We had a birthday in our party and dessert was served with the whole restaurant singing Happy Birthday! Loved our waitress - she was awesome!

I am only giving two stars for the view and beach access. I went up to the host to put my name on the wait list and he greeted me with "what did you say?" When I replied with "you didn't ask me anything" he just says "oh, how many?" The food is not that great for those prices. Actually it was quite bad. They do this stupid childish thing when you ask for ketchup where they pretend to squirt some on you with a fake bottle. Really dumb. One thing that really got under my skin was the same young male host just HAD TO sanitize his hands while I was standing by the window with my baby looking outside. When I turned to make room for him I saw there was no one around me. So why did he make me move?!?!?? When he did that the hostess started laughing and thought it was hilarious. So now I was there for their entertainment? If you really want to go here just sit outside, order apps and listen to the live band. You have to get it all yourself but it sure beats dealing with the staff.

Not really sure why this place gets hated on so much in some of these reviews. My fiancée and I went here last weekend for dinner and a sunset as my Mom was in town for the weekend and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals!! Old English pub feel is a bit out of place at a beachfront location - but after several pints of Guinness I was totally on board with the theme. Food is expensive here which is no surprise based on its location and tourist hotspot status. We got the Duck Duck shrimp which were pretty great! I got the Duck l'Orange which wasn't the best I've had - but it was still a pretty solid dish. My Mom got some salmon that was fantastic. The best part of my meal was the Cheesecake of the day (Caramel)...literally some of the BEST CHEESECAKE I've ever had. I HIGHLY recommend it!!! Also the molten chocolate lava cake was terrific too. Of course this is the place to go for some drinks and a sunset - breathtaking. I recommend this place especially if you are looking for somewhere to take visiting family and friends to experience the Gulf sunset and great food.

I ate here several years ago. The food was greasy but ok. We mainly went there to watch the sunset. We went by today thinking we would grab a bite and walk around the beach for a bit but we where told we could not. It's a shame because we were only planning to be there 30 mins. Ended up going to Doc Ford's: much better food anyways.

I had the pleasure of dining at the Mucky Duck twice during my weekend vacation to Sanibel Island. The first experience was great. The bartender was friendly and chatty. The beachfront seating and excellent Bloody Mary and beer selections made it quite memorable. The second night, however, was a little more dissatisfactory, which immediately knocked my five star review down to three. The outdoor bar was closed, so we went inside to order our appetizer and drinks. The blonde, older, bartender was very rude, and not very welcoming. She had a very demeaning tone of voice, and it seemed she carried that tone with every customer who approached her. My beer was only three quarters filled, as was one of the two Bloody Mary's I ordered. A resident of Sanibel, who we were visiting, said it was not the first time, and one of the reasons she rarely visited, despite the great food and view.

I think the best part of going here was my hour wait outside at the outdoor bar. It was a beautiful night and being smack on the beach thrust me into tropical mode. Unfortunately that's where it ended.. They are too busy for their own good. People are processed through the restaurant like cattle, so the service and food quality suffers from it. Everything was just mediocre and my beef was under cooked. Servers were so busy it was like hitting the lottery to get their attention. I expected way more from such a high profile restaurant in the area. I'd have drinks there and eat elsewhere next time.

    (2)
  • Amy S.

I've always found their inside menu to be heavy and overpriced, but it's got a great outdoor patio with live music, a great sunset view, and had a nice menu for drinks, appetizers and kids' meals that we could make dinner from, which was nice considering how few places on Sanibel or Captiva have beachside dining. Sadly, they've taken our favorites (Duck Fingers, Clam Chowder, kids' meals, firecracker shrimp) off the outside menu. (See picture for new menu.) Our recent Friday night visit was likely our last. We sat on the patio, disappointed and hungry, listening to their new Friday/Sunday musician play tired B-side 80s cuts dispiritedly on his Yamaha keyboard while the smoke from the parking "guide" 's cigarette smoke wafted across the outdoor dining area. We should've done like the folks next to us and brought our own picnic.

Well for all the hype I have heard about Captiva I'm not too impressed, the Mucky Duck definitely fell short of being good. The waitress named Elain had an attitude as if we bothered her, sorry but I you don't like dealing people get out of customer service because when people go out for a nice evening, they don't need it ruined with attitude. Secondly, I ordered the Coconut shrimp, they were previously frozen and looked like just like the brand Walmart sells, it was dry and not so good, thankfully the sauce for them was good and plentiful to make it better, also the mashed potatoes, they were dry, everything left you asking Flavor, where are you?? Lol I ordered the Homemade Clam Chowder, was nice, rich and thick, lots of climbs but the retard cook must have no taste buds because it was like someone dumped a bottle of salt in it, so two spoons out, left it for Elain, handed it to her, she took it away, but ya think if you hand food back to a server, you ask a few questions like; how was it? What's wrong with it? Do you want something to replace it? NOPE, not her, not even a let me get u the manager.. Nothing at all just a quick turn and walk off... Needless to say all the bread was over cooked and hard shells. Even the couple next to use didn't even eat their dinners and he had the fried shrimp that they said was made in their beer batter, nope it's the same Walmart brand. I feel they should have to leave comment cards for each party to leave real Tips for the establishment... Well back to the tween waters resort to the bar and grill for good food... Mucky Duck was a waste of time and money, never going back-

Delicious food, great portions. Be prepared for a long wait if you go for dinner. I had the seafood platter and it was awesome! Tasty and fresh. I did not give 5 stars because the building itself, is dirty. Dust balls on the window frame and the bathrooms are yucky. Fingers crossed the quality of food meant at least a clean kitchen.

    (4)
  • Jen H.

For starters they have the best setup for watching the sunset. If you just want a drink go here. The food was mediocre for the price. They don't take reservations so you will probably wait an hour plus to eat. At that point it really isn't worth it!

After struggling all week to find a place with good tasting food, my husband and I found it at The Mucky Duck. We stopped in for lunch and ate our grub outside. We ordered the fried calamari as our appetizer, which was great. The dipping sauce had good flavor. I ordered the seafood sampler platter. It had shrimp, clams, and fish. Some fried, some steam, some BBQ'd. The sea food seemed fresh and it was seasoned well. It also came with an interesting cole slaw that had pineapple with what I believed to a touch of coconut, it was nice and refreshing. My husband had the crispy grouper sandwich, which batter was slightly different from what was on my fried fish. Both delicious. I'm pretty sure they also had made their own tartar sauce to go with the fish. The food didn't take long to get done, and since we sat outside we ran in and got our own food. Which meant I didn't have a waitress that I had to worry about. They had free water refills right out on the porch if we got thirsty. So appetizers, main meal, two beers, cost less than $59 I was thrilled, and best of all it tasted good!!

This place was great! First of all you can watch the sunset from their outdoor patio (if you can find a seat) dhole listening to live music. The food was awesome. Best fried shrimp I had the whole week. Will def return next time in Captiva.

"Only for Foolish Tourists with no taste" The restaurant is a "tradition" among tourists - and sadly the owner and staff are living on that and can get away with it. The staff is indifferent. If you don't like it - there are 25 other tourists who'll take your table - and the awful food. Three of us came as guests of someone who'd come for decades. I'd been there also many times in years past. We all arrived with high expectations - and as things 'went south' wwe were nevertheless determined to be polite for our host's sake. One ordered the special paella - which the hostess said, with dramatic facial expression, was truly wonderful. It was not paella. Fish stew maybe - in a tomato based stock. It was horrid. Served in a bowl - with a spoon needed for the stock - with some white rice. Seafood was the cheapest available - leftovers no doubt. Another ordered the stuffed shrimp - heavy breading which obliterated any flavor at all. I tried a bite - couldn't believe it - - No flavor - none. More like a bland finger shaped hush puppy. Another ordered 2 appetizers in place of an entree - boiled shrimp and barbecued shrimp. This clearly annoyed the waitress - but she accommodated and these were, if very common fast food, at least edible. And I spent the meal politely picking at an uninspired and unattractive fish dinner. Shame on tourists for "enabling" the restaurant to survive. Perhaps a 6 month boycott promoted on Social media would do them a favor - and force them to get their act together. Even Better - - how 'bout a few calls to "Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares"

First off, the location can't be beat. Sunset views are outstanding. Plan to arrive about an hour before sunset. Guys, this is a great place to show your girl that you really love her. I gave mine a ring last night after sunset. It went very well. Now, for the food review.... This is not a chain. The food is prepared in the kitchen. It isn't heated up. Not sure if the fish is fresh - this isn't like going to Skip One or any of the outstanding places on Pine Island - hint - if you can smell the sea in a fish shop - the fish will be freshly caught that day - nothing in the world like freshly caught fish. (Note, Mucky Duck - lose the pictures of the English Royal Family! Those "blue blooded clowns don't need any more publicity!" Plus, this is the U.S.A. The Royals lost a while ago:) Well...after reading the menu, the Swordfish seemed like a good idea, only problem, they prepare with loads of butter and lemon- I wanted olive oil and fresh spearmint leaves and lemon - the server checked with the chef - they couldn't do it. So I settled. The Swordfish came out--I was right, loaded with butter - the fillet was only about 1/2" thick and loaded with butter and lemon. it was just ok... About an hour later, the heartburn set in. Swordfish should be grilled, olive oil, spearmint and lemon - Grill marks. This is the "steak" of the sea, and should be given this kind of respect:) The service was very good, no problem here. Bottom Line Great location. If you are looking for a real serious sea food restaurant, this is not it.

This place was such a cute little beachside restaurant. When we got there we walked around outside and checked out all the cool Christmas decorations and the beautiful clear blue beach. When we got inside we were greeted by a very outgoing hostess and got seated by a beautiful window seat. Our waitress Judi was hilarious which made the experience even better! The food was pretty good, I got the cheeseburger with chips and my boyfriend got the grilled chicken sandwich. Overall I would recommend this restaurant if you're around the area. Great for families or just a nice date with your significant other!

I absolutely loved this place. We've had nothing but amazing food our whole stay, but this is the first place with a beach view! We put our name in and walked down to the beach to watch the sunset. They even have an outdoor bar and patio area facing the beach where you can wait for your table. The place was packed but that didn't effect their service. The Seafood Platter was amazing! I will go back if I'm ever on the island again! *tip* If you're looking for a quiet place, this isn't it. The restaurant is small and you're pretty close together.

Went on Tuesday night at 9:15, to get a few beers with my siblings, as we were renting a place in Captiva for the week as a family. We were told that they can give us our beers in plastic cups and we can enjoy them outside, but that they were closing up. I am sorry, but what place in a resort town closes at 9:15 on a Tuesday night during spring break. The only reason why I am giving it 2 stars and not 1 is because they have a halfway decent beer selection.

The Mucky Duck was highly recommended by many people. Went to the bar to order drinks during out 40 MINUTE wait for dinner. The woman I was with asked "Do you have any drink specials?" Bartender replied, "No." She then asked him what the "Mucky Duck Margarita" was.. he says a regular margarita. Terrible customer service to begin with. Food came fast.. One had the pasta with shrimp special, decent. Three of us had crab cakes, all came out barely warm, though had a good amount of crabmeat. All dishes seemed to be small portions. All dishes come with side vegetables that are hard and seem to come from a frozen bag. Was not impressed and decided we wouldn't drive that far from our condo to eat there.

Almost gave it four stars, but it gets five because of its relaxed location on the beach and the great attitude of the staff. They were so nice and relaxed, plus attentive. They have great wooden tables outside, with a great view of the beach. Being able to drink beer and eat fresh calamari while watching the beach is just amazing. All their seafood is fresh and they have a large selection of beers. Not to mention their great margaritas - tasted like they were from scratch. The rum punch was pretty good too, but the margarita was better. The calamari here is amazing, as well as the frozen key lime pie - GET IT!

Fantastic location with a homey vibe inside. A bit of a retro look and feel with cottage-like decor and picture windows looking out on the ocean. Service is friendly and fast. The menu is simple and vast. The fish entrees are well prepared and the oysters were surprisingly good. Highly recommended while in Captiva.

Great place to watch sunset and of course very cold beer, and of course live music outside. Food was great had the crunch grouper and wife had shrimp sampler platter. The other problem I had was some one backed into my car and drove off:(. Must visit on your visit to captiva island.

Went here with our family while vacationing. It was about the only place on the island that was on the water. It had a nice outdoor seating area and a quaint area inside where we sat. Views were great. I had the pasta of the day which was a linguine with shrimp. It was delicious. Others had a grouper sandwich which was very good as well. The duck fingers were really good along with the chowder. Service was quick and friendly as well. Prices were very reasonable in comparison with other places we've at around the area.

Ok, so I gave the food another shot. Mistake! The specials board said that they had a creamy pesto penne pasta with fresh garlic and either chicken or shrimp. They've obviously never seen a proper bright green pesto sauce, as this was a creamy vodka sauce, and quite watery too. I did, however, find a single little tiny chunk of real garlic. Go for the "wine-based" drinks. Don't expect much for food.

Came for dinner and drinks on a Tuesday. 10-15 minute wait for 2. Decor is kitschy with nods to Great Britain throughout. And bits of wit sprinkled here and there too (like the rolling window, ask the server!). Nice outdoor seating and bar with live music. You can walk right out to the beach from there. The drinks were good but a bit inconsistently made. My bf and I both ordered the same cocktails 3 times and they came out different each time. Started dinner with duck fingers in raspberry sauce and crab cakes. Perfectly crispy and the raspberry sauce was an awesome and unexpected accompaniment. Crab cakes were perfectly seasoned and cooked with a little corn and bean salsa on the side. I had the shrimp platter which was pretty good. My favorite pieces were the coconut shrilly and the beer battered. The BBQ shrimp were good but I wouldn't be able to eat more than 2 or three because they were so heavy. The platter was served with BBQ sauce and a really weak cocktail sauce (I like a lot of horseradish in mine). I wish it also cake with a third citrusy sauce or tartar sauce. Service was great though it took a little but for the server to warm up to us it seemed (we asked her about the rolling windows randomly next to tables). Could've been she was tired since it was nonstop people in and out until the sun went down. I absolutely loved the outdoor area and would be perfectly content going back here just for that.

Great place to watch a sunset but very limited on parking. The service is great. We got to the restaurant and were lucky enough to get a window seat. The appetizers were great and so was the grouper. I wouldn't recommend the halibut or the pasta though.

Experience mediocrity in a beautiful location. When someone says location, location, location think of the mucky duck. It is the only thing this place has going for it. 26.95 for Sysco fried scallops- well the cocktail sauce was edible.

We came with a group of 18 (8a 10c), so we had to wait for 2 hrs for table, kids played on beach while we ordered drinks and apps, the reason you come is for the sunsets and so does everyone else, This place can't be beat for that. If Mother Nature cooperates does not disappoint! The staff was very friendly and nice and food was good, we got seated in the time frame the hostess told us. If you come all the way to Captiva you have to come here it's truly special and you will be happy you did. Will def be back

So its July and they open at 5:00 but the lines starts for dinner at 4:30 .... 45 Minute wait .. great view ... probably not a better view. I have eaten here now about 4 years in row and every year they get worse and worse. This year I ordered a $20 plate of Fish and Chips and received about a $2 worth of food. Seriously the kids plate my daughter had, had more food than my plate had on it. Half a handful of fries and just a couple small planks (hmm sticks more like it) of fish. We will not be going back to Mucky Duck and we spend 8 days on Sanibel/Captiva every year. Go for the Sunset, sit out side get a drink and go back to George and Wendy's or the Sangria grill for dinner. Mucky Ducks is just plain Yucky Ducks now.

So much to say about the Duck. Historic, a must go and see place. Picnic tables on a beautiful beach outside bar. Can you imagine toasting the sun going down here? With all the outside attractions we of course ate inside. WARNING this place opens at 11:30 am. Get here no later than 11:15am. They have a small lot and a street that dead ends. I have never seen a parking lot bouncer before now. They have a big guy who yells at all the people trying to get on the lot not to block the entrance/exit. Because you cannot get off the lot if it is blocked. We needed him to get off the lot. I was once again on my search for the perfect Grouper Sandwich. Not bad sandwich whatsoever. Not that expensive when you understand what this property must be worth. Trust me if you are in the area and want to hoist a few and have great view come here.

Fun place to have a casual lunch out on patio just off the beach. Outside bar for easy drinking. The place closes at 3:00 and reopen at 5:00 so plan on getting there for lunch. Or dinner. Burgers are good and jucey order them med rare or they will come out dry. The seafood platter is pretty disappointing and is better at other places Most things on the menu are good not great the the beach sitting however is memorable

Love love love this place! I have been vacationing in Captiva for 18+ years and Mucky Duck is a spot you must hit when you're in Captiva. I recommend going for lunch because you can sit outside and enjoy the beach front (and search for dolphins). Sometimes you can't find a table to sit at outside, but they do take out so you can take it on the beach or bring it home. I love the vibe of the restaurant inside, small but has a lot of character. I would highly recommend going for a beer and fried clam strips and grilled cheese for the kids!

Not impressed with much but the bar and view. We sat at our table for 10 minutes before our server came to get a drink order. It was several minutes later that we finally got our two glasses of soda, at which point the server was indifferent to questions and not knowledgeable about the menu. It took another 10 minutes for bread to arrive (and another minute or so after with butter) before the wife and I called it quits. Wish we could have gotten to the food , but the service just turned me off completely. Come for drinks and the view, bartender was the best part.

The Mucky Duck is one of the few places with a "beach bar" setting on either Sanibel or Captiva located with a view of the sun setting from the beach. We arrived around 530 and put our name in for a table at which point there is a 1 1/2 hour wait. There is an outside bar and ample picnic tables to watch the setting sun. Drinks are $6 and well prepared by a competent business like barman. The crowd is friendly. We also had some apps which appeared made from frozen ingredients. Okay, nothing to get excited about. The parking attendant was pleasant and patient. When the sun set @ 630 the beach crowd headed home either by car or on foot. The Duck is what it is. A pub with decent drinks among a handful of spots on Captiva/Sanibel. Go for the craic and the sunset. Both were fine.

The view is the real star at mucky duck. We came we saw and we ate. My husband got the barbecue bacon wrapped shrimp and that was a real winner. I liked the king crab legs. They were your typical crab legs, split but still rather tough to get out of the shell. The drawn butter wasn't quite drawn as you could see the separation in the candle light serving ramekin. He got the fries (ok) and I got the red potatoes, neither was something to write home about. The veggies side was mediocre. But I think for a cold beer and the view it was a good stop, for a full meal you can find better on Captiva or Sanibel.

We arrived late on a week night, but were seated quickly and with a nice view of the sunset. We had the calamari as an appetizer-they were crisp and not too oily. My wife had the pasta special which she enjoyed, and I had the grouper, which I also enjoyed. The waitress was very nice and attentive, but she disappeared for a while where I had to ask for her to re-appear. This is a pub, so consider that there will be noise and loud talking. Our biggest disappointment was dessert-we requested the Key Lime pie-which came frozen. We should have returned it, but as it was late, we ate a bit of it and left. This is a good place to come for a drink and with the kids, but don't expect much by way of food or ambiance.

I had the mahi-mahi and it was excellent. My wife had the duck a l'orange and it was just okay. The atmosphere was great though. It was a very casual relaxed environment that felt more like a bar in Wisconsin than a seafood restaurant in Florida, with dark wood panel walls, but it worked! Also the service was very good.

3 Stars for the food. An additional star for the setting and the bar. This food hole sits on top of a nice beach in Captiva. The front door is no more than 15 steps from where we had set up our towels and we wandered in there - wet bathing suits and swim noodles in hand - just moments after we got out of the water. No pretense or annoyed looks from the crowd - just some nice hospitality and a warm lunch. There's an outdoor seating area that proved too much for us on a hot/humid June day. Inside is air conditioned. Nice English style pub as you walk in with Guiness and Boddingtons on tap among others. Nice "beach-joint" style dining room in back with the expected fried seafood and burgers type menu. As others report, I wouldn't go out of my way to seek out the food here. But given its proximity and convenience to the beach and the hunger pains I felt after a few hours in the water, the food really did its job.

The view and location of this restaurant/outdoor bar is amazing situated right on Captiva beach. They have this delicious wine vodka drink I recommend, (they only serve beer & wine outside from what I understand). You can watch the beautiful sunset on the beach then get some drinks and enjoy the live music under the stars. I ordered the key lime pie and it was frozen, with that said I was disappointed. Other then that this place is a lot of fun.

On my way home, reluctantly, after 5 days of riding around in a golf cart around Captiva, soaking up the sun... And rain. We ran in here for lunch after we checked out of our hotel. We couldn't find a table here the night before. You must come super early for dinner as crowds gather to be here for sunset. Lunch was great. Burgers and salads and comfy beach food. On the beach. What's not to love?

Can't complain about their sunset but from the parking lot attendant to the guy at the check in stand not one friendly , personable welcome from anyone. We waited an hour for our table and then (our group of 9)were seated at 2 separate tables. Dinners average $25. The ladies room has a funky smell..... we left

    (2)
  • Susan C.

There is always a crowd at the iconic Mucky Duck so you must get here early to get seated and find a parking space. We only waited a short while for a table after arriving @ 5:30 during the peak season. I ordered their shrimp, artichoke, sun-dried tomato and pasta dish which was sensational! It was so much food, I could barely make a dent in it and had leftovers for the next night. My husband ordered the breaded pork chop and he was happy as well. As always, we will return.

While the dinner and atmosphere were very good and the outdoor bar was fun the key lime pie was absolutely a huge disappointment. It was frozen sorbet on an old crust that tasted like refrigerator. When we told the server that it was inedible she said "that's the way we have made it for over 30 years". So, if you want good key lime pie we suggest you go to Doc Ford's.

  • Joy K.

Have eaten there many times and always order the bacon wrapped shrimp with cole slaw and fries followed by a slice of keylime pie. Today we ordered our usual and all of us were very dissapointed. Shrimp were nothing special, slaw had no flavor, and shoestring fries were flavorless right out of the freezer. When our pie came it was frozen solid, so much so you couldn't even stick a fork in it. We told our waitress who proceeded to tell us it was always that way and had been done this way for the past 20 years. She argued with us when we told her we had been here many times before. We took our pie to go and when we got home it was thawed enough to eat it, but I 'm here to tell you that it didn't even resemble the taste of the pie we've had there in the past. Even the texture was different. We didn't appreciate the rudeness of our waitress and would be nervous to recommend them in the future. So disappointed!

This rating is for the bar and location only. We had already eaten but the location is perfect for a sunset and a glass of wine. Though they do not have a full liquor bar, the wine pours were large and worth the money. Definitely priced right for the strip.

I will never return to this restaurant ever again. Took my family there today for what was supposed to be a nice lunch for the NewYear our last day on the island. Was there early, easily got a table on the sand. Of course kids finished lunch quickly and immediately wanted to get up and run down to the beach. The man in the parking lot blocked me from going to the beach because we had parked in the parking lot of the Mucky Duck. I explained the rest of the family was still eating and I was just going to run to show them the parasailing off the water. The brute physically blocked me and said he wasn't going to let me down to the beach. My 5 year old cried and could not understand why this mean man wouldn't let us through. The food was terrible and the attitudes astounding. Not worth the trip or time.

"When in Rome..." The Mucky Duck is a so-so restaurant that does not deserve the hype it receives. That said, they have possibly the best location in Captiva right on the beach. I had the Grouper Cafe de Paris which was just okay as I had much better grouper during my stay. Can't beat the oysters at $1.50 each. You can order one or a whole dozen. If you insist on dining here and want to avoid a ridiculously long wait, show up at 4:15 to get your name on the list and seated when the restaurant opens at 5. The draw back is you will be done long before sunset which is really the reason you want to visit this place.

Nice location and beach is nice I would go back to the sunset and have a drink but skip the food. I had raw shrimp wrapped in raw bacon with barbecue sauce and greasy fries Yuck Husband had fish and chips He was not impressed. He said the fish was cold inside and the batter was thick and greasy. Maybe we chose the wrong things but am not anxious to try anything else

Service was very good on a packed Mon night. We got there @ 5:30pm and it was really starting to pack up quickly. Food was very good all around. Try the grouper "cafe de Paris" with the roasted red potatoes. Best we've had in Captiva.

Go for the sunset only. Have a half alcoholic content drink at the patio bar. Then run do not walk to a better restaurant. Any restaurant will do. We witnessed the mass exodus when people realized the sunset was a bust (haze and clouds on the horizon). Many parties were called on the loudspeaker who obviously left. Wish we had done the same. My wife and I stuck it out. Many parties of four were called before us that arrived much later than we did. When we pointed this out to the hostess she told us that we had to wait for a two-top. Riiiight! When we pointed to a couple sitting at a table for four she "found" a table for us but not before seating a family of four that arrived 30 minutes after us. The joke is there was exactly one two-top (a booth in the corner). The food was nothing special. I'm sure the "good reviews" are regulars and employees. Don't believe them!!

  • John D.

We ate outside next to the beach--I ordered the fried grouper sandwich--yum! Washed it down with some local beer--again, yum! The portions were good sized, and I felt full when I left. There really isn't waitstaff for the outside tables. You order at the bar and pick it up when they call your name. On the plus side, the bartender was fantastic and gave us beer samples before we picked our drinks. We'll return here on the next trip.

I was pleasantly shocked at the quality of the food and drink at the Duck. I had nice black and tan and we split the fried duck fingers and bbq shrimp. I had the crispy . grouper and my wife had the seared ahi tuna Cesar salad. Both meals were really good and you can't get a better view.

  • Mark D.

Great food. Even better view. Nice patio with live music and a bar. Situated right on the beach. Any closer and you would be in the water LOL. This was my second visit to Captiva, and I can't believe we missed this place the first time around!! It makes the list of 'places you must try' while you're in the area. Recommended! Nice beach if you're there with children, as well. The place is very family friendly. Thank you Mucky Duck. You will see us again.

I don't think you'll find a better place to grab a fish dinner AND a perfect location to watch the sun set over the water. Really chill place, but parking can take some time. Really nice server, as well.

I was skeptical of this restaurant since it seemed like a tourist trap. We went around 6:30 PM on a Thursday night over spring break and were not seated until nearly 8:30. The outside seating, bar, and live music made the time go by - not to mention the beautiful sunset view. Once we were seated, the service was fast and friendly and food quality was good. We enjoyed our experience and would recommend this spot for families. We hope to return!

This establishment is obviously full of self-importance and apparently feels that since they're one of the few "on the beach" restaurants that they can be rude and turn business away. When I asked, while holding my 17 month old Down Syndrome daughter, if we could look at a menu so that we could order something and seat ourselves in their back area where they have picnic tables overlooking the beach, they tersely said only appetizers were available there from the bar. When I asked if we could order any other items from their to go menu they rudely said no. So, I can order off the menu and take the food home or down the street, as they suggested, but I can't take the food to the back picnic tables and enjoy the setting sun with my family? "No, we don't have service outside" was their answer. I said, "I'm not looking for service outside I'm looking to take my food outside that I purchased from you. They said they simply do not serve their food outside. Doesn't make much sense and their attitude was horrible. Don't bother with these self important asses. These people are full of themselves because they are in a good location. Their food isn't even that great from what we've heard from the locals, it's the atmosphere people patronize them for. Move on there are plenty of good restaurants down the road that value their customers. Try Mad Hatter, Blue Giraffe, Doc Fords Key Lime, R.C. Otters and The Lazy Flamingo. Enjoy your stay in Sanibel or Captiva. Make your stay a memorable one and don't allow a cocky and rude restaurant owner to ruin your time here.

THE place to watch the sunset with your favorite beverage outside, just don't expect to get a parking spot 15 minutes before the sun dips below the horizon! Live entertainment on the Friday night I was there.

I haven't actually been to the mucky duck but I want to give a five star review for their customer service, especially their hostess, Jennifer. My mom was there with friends celebrating her 60th birthday and I called to see if there was any way I could send them drinks or pay their bill. Jennifer went out of her way to talk to the bartender, figure out who my mom was and let her friends know what was going on. She then called me later just to let me know that everything worked out. She was very nice on the phone and extremely helpful. Thanks from California!

A must visit if you are anywhere near Sanibel & Captiva. We were staying on Fort Myers Beach and looked up our options for a evening over on Sanibel and this placed popped up on Yelp as one of the top placed. This place is all about the experience. Great story behind the beginning of this place and what a location. If you can go for sunset. Be ready for a wait and it is worth it. Lot's of tables and seats to wait out by the beach until you get in to eat. Parking is tough as they have limited spaces. I was directed up the street to marina where you paid $5 to park. No big deal and a short walk away. All the servers are experienced and have probably been there for years. Food was very good and while it isn't white table cloth 5 star type of a place it is a perfect island place to eat and well worth it. When I come back I will certainly make another trip to the Mucky Duck!

  • Daniel B.

Nice location and the food was good, not great. Prices were pretty steep for certain items on the menu so I got the cheaper option, fish & chips. The fish was actually very nice and the breading was light and it was not overly oily and greasy (the biggest problem with most fried fish I feel). The chips (french fries for you yanks ;) ) were very subpar. They were very thin and served at room temperature :s. Could barely taste the potato. Tables are wedged in their very tight so you don't have much room to backup your chair and the service was a bit aloof, she kept forgetting half the things we ordered (soda and then she didn't even bring the coleslaw that came with the dish). It's pretty tiring to have to remind the server about what comes with a dish...

Overpriced tourist trap! Three small pieces potatoe, 6 pieces of vegetable, and 6 small scallops for $ 24! In Massachusetts that buys one hell of fishermans platter.

Parking is tight so get there early or be prepared to walk. Went for lunch got there in time to find a spot on site. Seated quickly, nice hostess. Got table by window, view is killer. Drinks were ice cold and served quickly.Started with 1/2 doz oysters. Cold, briny, plump, yummy, expensive. Had Duck appetizer with some kind of raspberry sauce. Not very memorable. Had a bowl of chili and it was excellent. Not to many beans, lots of meat, just the right amount of heat. Wife had a shrimp salad that had a great flavor but was way to watery. It was served with lots of fresh fruit that was very sweet and perfectly ripe. The salad also came with a tiny piece of garlic bread that was really good, I wish there was more. They had a typical kids menu and my daughter was happy. All in all a good place with decent food and good drinks. If you're in Captiva go ahead and eat. But I don't know if I would drive all the way up there again from the south side of Sanibel for the experience.

We went last night for dinner based on the hotel recommendation. It was fantastic. The food tasted great and my husband loved the Mucky Duck Ale. My husband had the duck and said it was cooked perfectly. My son and I had the special with shrimp and scallops, it was great. My kids had the duck fingers as an appetizer. We told them it was chicken because if we didn't they would try it. They loved the duck fingers and were shocked that is was duck. The view it breath taking. The water on the beach in front of the restaurant is very clear and beautiful. Our overall experience was pleasant and we all enjoyed the food.

This place was fabulous! Setting & service - 5 stars, food 4 stars. SETTING - Even though they don't take reservations & we had a 30 min wait on a Wednesday night, it was simply perfect to get some wine and sit out back right in the ocean & enjoy the sunset. SERVICE - Our waitress Judy was absolutely delightful. When I apologized for being a vegetarian, she giggled and let me know I was the third in the room! She took $5 off their pasta of the day & had them make it without chicken. FOOD - Honestly I would have given 5 stars, it is just that there was really only one salad, one appetizer & one (altered main) that was vegetarian. They have many beers on tap & plenty of great wine. Unlike a few other places, it wasn't such quality food that I would rush back. If you're in the area, make sure you go here at sunset!

Such a GREAT night! I am grateful of the hour wait so we could sit outside and enjoy the perfection of the view and music. Order a couple of drinks and appetizers. A must see experience. Food was delicious as well. Crunchy grouper.....yum!

Have to give it 4 just for view. Crowded at sunset because of that but they work hard to move people. Staff is very friendly. The food is good, not gourmet. Plenty of variety. Calamari is light and crisp. Would definitely return as it's an experience for Captiva.

Mucky Duck is the only truly beach-side bar and restaurant on all of Sanibel and Captiva. Sitting on the patio, sand in my feet, watching kids giggle as they play a silly game of string-and-hook on a palm tree, listening to excellent live acoustic music, enjoying all the people and families festively gathered for the evening tradition of beholding a glorious sunset over the Gulf. That alone is worth the 5 stars. And it's a pub, not a Michelin-starred establishment -- so why complain about the food?

    (5)
  • Brian G.

Went in for lunch after a morning of shelling on one of Sanibel's beaches. I'm going to say upfront that the food is WAY over priced for the quality. In all honesty you are paying for the view of the Gulf of Mexico. My fiancée had the salmon, and I had the seafood sampler. Along with the seafood sampler I enjoyed a Key West Ale. We decided to try some deserts; we ordered a slice of key lime pie and a slice of cheesecake. I do not want to believe they were store bought, but it was quite obvious they both had spent some time in a freezer. Besides the view of the gulf, there are very few redeeming qualities.

Mucky Duck has a great location but quite expensive food for the quality they serve. Food was ok but nothing to write home about. We had shrimp alfredo and fried Talapia with french fries. Worth the visit due to location.

The Mucky Duck is THE staple restaurant in Captiva. Families have been coming to this beach-side establishment for 30+ years for a reason -- the happy/quirky atmosphere (loaded with delightfully tacky slogans and t-shirts on the ceiling, duck ornaments/knick knacks, and hilarious staff). However, don't be fooled -- the Duck serves up quality eats, almost too high-end to a fault. That being said, the seafood is typically stellar, and there is something for all ages (if you're overwhelmed by the menu like I usually am, then opt for the seafood platter and split it with a friend -- there's plenty of food). Because of the Mucky Duck's popularity, it is highly recommended to come an hour before you want to eat (if after 6 pm) to put your name on the list. Seriously, at times, my family has had time to grocery shop a few doors down, unload it, then come back to the restaurant, have a drink at the bar, and then be seated. But it's totally worth the wait for the best dining experience on the island. If you're still wanting to experience the Mucky Duck but don't have time for dinner, you should hang out on the patio for a pre-sunset cocktail and to try the alternative menu with more lunch-style/finger-food (and cheaper) options. There's also usually a guy with a guitar jamming out an array of beach tunes next to the outdoor (cash-only) bar.

My family has been coming to Sanibel/Captiva for almost 30 years. The Mucky Duck is a must do for anyone looking for a spectacular sunset and a relaxed island vibe. The food has gotten considerably better with the change in ownership. I always share the seafood platter and a raspberry brownie sundae. Parking is limited, so arrive early, grab a glass of wine and enjoy the patio if there is a wait!

This place came highly recommended to us from a friend in NY so we decided to stop by and give it a try. I had the grouper a la Paris and it was amazing try this if you are here for dinner you won't be disappointed. The food was fast and fresh. We did not wait long for food or parking as mentioned in the previous comments. Mike was our waiter he was efficient and made good recommendations! I didn't car for the dessert too much or the fact that they only have wine strength alcohol but other than that this place is awesome

Our family has been to Sanibel 5 times in the past 20 years and we always make a trip to the mucky Duck. It says English themed pub but that is a stretch. Really only can say that for a few of the menu items and imported beers. Restaurant could do with an update or overhaul but the is still good and I haven't gone wrong with their fresh catch of the day. All in our party who stayed away from the fried offerings were pleased. It's always busy and the parking can be a pain but at least now the lot is paved and they had an attendant helping with the melee. Outside seating is nice for a after meal drink and the Bimini ring toss game is a hit with both young and old. It may be a few years before we're back but we'll be back.

The location and view are pretty amazing at the Mucky Duck. We watched the sunset while a pod of dolphins swam by... 5 stars for Mother Nature! 2 stars for Yucky Duck.... The female bartender was very rude to everyone, maybe that was her schtick but it was very unwelcoming. The food is of very poor quality, I swear my fish was frozen before it was fried. The prices are nuts. $$$$$$ Hey vacation destination restaurants, we are on to you! Its pretty clear you will get business anyway and repeat clients aren't your goal, but have a little pride!

If your looking for top notch food and service this is not your first choice. Actually the service was poor and rude at times. If your looking for a fun place to go with good food and an awesome outside spot to chill this place is GREAT! Beer and wine only but the do make "mixed drinks" which were not that bad. Great fun place to go after a long beach day.

For drinks outside only. We had to walk in. Spent over 100 all night buying drinks for our party and the male bartender had no personality, didn't seem appreciative of a tip and made sure to have a tipping rules sheet sitting on the bar! Barely acknowledged after I had to walk in and wait in line for my drinks. This is a vacation destination where people spend a LOT of money. We deserve to be made to feel welcome. Unfortunately you just won't here. :(

You come here for the sunset. Mucky Duck's has an incredible piece of property on Captiva. The outdoor area with picnic tables provides a fun, relaxed, resort atmosphere, perfect for watching sunsets. They had live music while I was there, and a bar setup outdoors. You can wander down to the beach if you so choose. They are open before 5, but do not start serving dinner until then. No reservations, and you cannot even put your name on the list until a certain point. You can have appetizers and drinks outside, but not your meal. Inside if you have a window table, it will provide you a sunset view. It's a tight squeeze inside. The service was fine- FAST. They are obviously trying to turn tables quickly. I was amazed at how quickly the food came. I had the fried pork chop, and it was pretty good. Props to the waitress, I asked if I could have all broccoli instead of a veggie medley. She told me it was pre mixed, but when my plate came, I had all broccoli! Certainly come here to catch the sunset if you don't have another place on Sanibel or Captiva to watch, but don't expect an incredible dining experience.

One of the best places on Captiva Island. Great Food! Wife had Steak and I had Shrimp wrapped In Bacon! Really good! Good atmosphere, GREAT place to watch the sunset. I would suggest getting there a few hours before sunset, eat, drink some and relax outside listening to the music. This place is right on the beach, with chairs also to view the sunset. Crystal clear shallow water with many of seashells and star fish to search for. Bar area only serves Beer and Mixed drinks. No Blended or Frozen items. A must when in Captiva!

This place is my favorite lunch spot. Order at the bar and eat outside....margaritas made with wine are delicious!!! Hot dogs and burgers are a great lunch. Clam chowder and clam strips are a must try!!!! If you are on Captiva for the sunset you won't find a better viewing spot. Beautiful scenery, delicious drinks and live music doesn't get more vacation-y

Food was great, service was great, host where kinda rude, view is amazing!! Best part is even if your on an hour wait, the have music, a bar menu where you can order from, and while your waiting on this you can sit on the beach and hear their all call... Best sunset in the island.

incredibly overrated, spare yourself the hassle and just pack a cooler and snacks and hang out on the beach instead.

Whenever I talk about my visit to Captiva, the first thing I mention is Mucky Duck. Being from Chicago, I really enjoyed their laid back set up and the chance we had to enjoy a meal while basking in a Florida sunset. Before we were seated for dinner, we walked around on the beach and enjoyed the ocean breeze. The patio is great enhancer and makes any wait time acceptable (such a beautiful view). Although the food was top notch (I recommend the burger!) in my opinion the atmosphere and staff are what set this establishment apart. Being first timers we had a few questions and there was no hesitation in answering by the staff. They were super friendly and helped make our short stay one to remember!! If I already haven't said enough about the atmosphere, it is perfect in everyway! It is an experience I will never forget!!

Amazing sunsets, sometimes even with dolphins! The margaritas are made with wine (I guess hard liquor licenses are hard to come by on the island). Food is alright.

Groups of people wait outside where you can order beer, wine or "margaritas" made from agave wine instead of tequila. You can order apps during the long wait for your table. Don't go with a group larger than six or you will be split as the tables are bolted to the floor. I never been to a pub that didn't have a bar. Shame really. The food wasnt bad, but the rushed service, long waits and lack of a full bar is disappointing. But it's a small island so the place is packed.

Unbeatable location with an amazing outdoor patio that overlooks the gulf. Food was a little *too* good to be considered a true english pub. I'd mark this down as an excellent high-end outing dinner location.

We went for a quick lunch and beers after biking on Sanibel. We decided that all we wanted to do was share some appetizers and some beer. The Mucky Duck is right beside the beach and though you cannot really see the beach from inside you can see the ocean. We had oysters, chicken wings, fried calamari, onion rings and a pitcher of their Mucky Duck red draft beer. It was really good and I would not hesitate to return back if I was in the Captiva/Sanibel area. I thought the pricing was really reasonable for the Captiva/Sanibel area.

This is an institution on the Village end of the island and absolutely worth a visit. Not everything they serve is crazy delicious, but I've had some awesome eats over the course of my 40ish visits here. Everyone loves the picnic tables outside, but I find the inside charming too: the space is crowded and fun, decorated with a massive collection of pins featuring old campaign slogans and silly office jokes. They keep it cold in there, so it makes for nice break from the heat and sun if you're having a summer lunch. I love the sense of humor here: if you request a window seat, you may be lucky enough to get a table in the middle of the floor--and have them roll over a standing glass window pane. The servers are bound to play one of their running pranks on your table at some point.. The duck fingers are randomly awesome, and they have a fine, if standard spinach salad you can top with grilled shrimp or chicken. Grouper anything is a crowdpleaser here. I would also heartily recommend their daily fish and pasta specials. I've always felt the pub food was meh, but I've never had truly excellent fish & chips or chicken fingers anywhere. Owner is a great guy and some of the servers have been there for years. Charming place in a wonderful location.

On a review rampage. Was there April 3, 2005. Beautiful setting, popular bar, great food. It gets crowded. Very crowded. Like an hour wait during Spring Break crowded. My daughter was 6 and impatient. Your kids will be too. Good pub-ish food. I remember the duck fingers - unique - almond breaded duck strips served with raspberry sauce. 3 star food in a 5 star setting. Average 4 stars. My daughter dug the dessert too.

I don't know if they were just having a bad day or if the food has taken a dive at the Mucky Duck. The view and atmosphere are legendary and our service was good. Burgers were serviceable, but kettle chips were bland and key lime pie was "island style" (semi-frozen) which is OK; but it would have been nice to know this in advance. Also, I have a sneaky suspicion that our food was cross-contaminated with shellfish since my wife's allergy kicked in within the hour and she was sick the rest of the day.

    (3)
  • Kim L.

Not sure what the hype is about and why there is such a long wait...location is great, but food was just OK. Would be nice if you had the option to eat outside...

    (3)
  • Alexandra W.

Was a bit disappointed this go round. The waitresses heart was in the right place - she didn't care for how the fries came out the first time so she sent them back - with my shrimp, which them baked under the heat lamp and became shrimp jerky. The fries were good, scampi great...bbq shrimp were promising, but otherwise the overdoness makes it hard to really tell.

Why when I sat down to watch the sunset in front of me was the first thing I thought of Douglas Adams' "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe"? It almost felt like that as everyone was gathered to watch the sunset and be served whatever and because the sun sets nightly they'll fill the restaurant and come back the next night, and the night after that... (Except for Sundays when they're closed.) We were fortunate enough to get a date night away with our family watching the little ones and wanted to go someplace special. I hadn't been to the place since I was a kid and my wife had never been. At first, we were concerned that our waitress was devoid of a sense of humor, but over the course of the meal it turned out it was just Sahara-grade dry. My complaints with the meal were really just a function of the price and the inventiveness (or perhaps lack thereof). The first thing I usually use as a barometer is the prices on the wine list, starting with White Zinfandel. I know what it costs by the bottle, I know about what I expect for a markup in a restaurant. When the Beringer White Zinfandel is $30/bottle and I saw it for $25 or so less than that at the grocery store earlier in the week, I know what I'm in for. The NZ Sauvignon Blanc was pucker-inducing sour, despite the "floral and grapefruit" notes advertised on the drinks menu. I ordered the bacon-wrapped shrimp appetizer, my wife the chicken sandwich and me the polynesian chicken for an entree. The four shrimp (and these were not "jumbo" shrimp either, for $9.50 for the four of them) came out on a plastic salad plate with a half a cherry tomato and lemon wedge for garnish. Spartan, to say the least. My salad that came with my entree I gave to my wife and it was your typical, uninspired, "we'll give you a salad with your dinner" type of salad. Her sandwich came out and it looked and tasted pretty good, served with a side of fries. My chicken dish was probably two to three minutes later in coming from the kitchen and was a flat-pounded double breast of chicken that was grilled off and served with a grilled pineapple ring atop it. I opted for the sweet potato for my starch and was disappointed because I think it was burned (too long on the grill at one point). As a result, "sweet" is not the first word that would come to mind to describe the potato. All in all, the meal was as the rating system indicates. "Meh." Perhaps the thing I need to temper it with is the real estate and the view. it was gorgeous. And maybe that's what I paid for was the privilege to park and enjoy the sunset. And maybe that's fine. But I just can't escape the fact that if you want to be there, if you want to sell that experience, if you want to be more than just a place to get a serviceable plate of food while watching Mother Nature do her thing, then lose the restaurant diner stoneware, silverware and serving stuff and crank out some really nice and more unique dishes to support the price point.

Best spot to see the sunset; live music on weekends; and though I felt guilty not having seafood while on the gulf, the grilled ribeye was so good that we came back two nights later just to order it again! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, especially considering the hordes of sandy, hungry guests!

  • Debby K.

Went to hang out and watch the sunset. Had a few beers and 2 different shrimp appetizers - the shrimp may have been the best I have ever eaten - big, fat and juicy! They had a guy playing guitar, we found great chairs and the view was awesome. We'll be back!

Great place to watch sunset! I didn't see too much on the menu that got me super jazzed, but that might've been since I had just spent a ton of time out in the sun and intense heat. The atmosphere definitely had a comfy pub meets college joint kind of feel (there were a pile of collegiate buttons up on the walls). I did like the Duck-a-Dillas (duck meat, black beans, veggies and cheese fried in a flour tortilla served with salsa). I thought the food was a wee bit overpriced. I was floored by the overwhelming smell of fish in the restaurant though. Yeah, they serve seafood, but goodness...it was powerful!

Things did not start off well. We pulled up to the over crowed lot and when we tried to pull our over size rental car into a spot we realized it would not fit. We then saw someone leaving from a larger spot so we had a couple of people from our party go and save the spot. Almost at that instant a d....ebag in a Audi sports car pulls up to the spot and starts yelling that he was the owner and needs to park. After a short angry discussion he roars off to find a new spot. We then are treated to an eternal wait outside where the temperature was cool enough that the outdoor heaters should have been turned on. They were not turned on until almost everyone had left the outdoor space. While waiting endlessly we confirmed with the host that that it was indeed the owner we had the misfortune of meeting in the parking lot and indeed this was not the first time that he had been less that cordial to customers. We were finally seated and were treated to prices that would have made restaurants in NYC blush. The entrees were fine, I had the chicken piccata. For desert I choose a key lime pie which would have been fine had it been fully defrosted. Avoid this tourist trap except to have a drink to watch the sunset otherwise head to Sanibel island for something better.

Don't bother- unless you're there to watch the sunset- the food is AWFUL. Outside w/live music, cocktails & the beach/sunset makes for a cool spot but I really have nothing good to say other than that.

  • Al L.

Was there last night enjoying the sunset. Small seating area so be patient for a table. Had the duck duck shrimp app, delicious. The main course was cooked just right and was also delicious. The only think is you have to grease the parking attendant for a spot.

I came here the first night that I got to my house on the island and can I just tell you that I experienced the most breathtaking sunset from their beach. I came to Captiva Island to get married last June and this was the first destination when setting foot on the island. My family was famished from a day of traveling and needed nutrition and a nice cold beer. It was really crowded, but it wasn't really a big deal because they had a band playing and a bar set up on the beach. Once we got in, I have to say that I had the most spectacular grouper sandwich that I had on the entire island. My mouth is watering now thinking about it. I can't wait to make my way back to Captiva to enjoy another one! The servers also play pretty funny jokes on customers. I'm not going to elaborate because I don't want to give away any of the details. Just make sure that you are on your toes at all times!

This place stands out for the perfect beachside drinks atmosphere I was looking for. The little outdoor bar was great, as were the wooden lounge chairs and picnic tables for enjoying sunsets, ocean breezes, and quick trips in and out of the ocean. I came twice because it satisfies needs on many levels. Some of the appetizers are great too! I recommend the crab and fruit platter.

Came for lunch today on our first visit to captiva. Even though it only had 3.5 stars we gave it a try. Bad move.... The service.... wait what service?! We sat outside went inside to order and they called our names over the speaker. The cashier has the audacity to let it be known that tip is not included. Well what should I tip you for? She didn't even bring us water. Anyway the food was mediocre. It came 5 minutes after we ordered so I guess that says how "fresh" it is. Clam chowder was the worst I've had. My captiva sandwich was ok. My husbands grouper sandwich had no flavor and no salt. Won't be back again, not going through that again for the view.

Great location for sunsets. The food is decent but not great. The drinks are limited. Parking can be a problem near sunset. Sometimes they have outdoor live music and I would recommend sitting outside if the weather is nice.

This is the type of meal we came to captiva for! Food was outstanding, from the duck fingers appetizer, to the crunchy pork chop...it was delicious. Then throw in a ringside seat for the sun slipping into the gulf! But it gets better...Luanne was our server and she made both of our visits special! Will come back to captiva just to eat here!

Located on the always kitschy and charming island of Captiva, this classic spot on the beach never disappoints if you are looking for a perfect sunset locale. I might suggest elsewhere if you are looking for fantastic food, however this is my favorite spot for some live music, a margarita and lots of romantic beach walking at sunset. Don't forget to play the ring-game attached to the tree off the patio! We make it a drinking game.

Super fast service! We were there mid day for lunch. I got the seafood platter and my husband tried the friend clams. It was fried and decent. The service was extremely fast, and made for a nice quick decent lunch!

I have been coming to sanibel / captiva for 35 years. This place use to be better than it is now. Everything is fried where it should be grilled. Otherwise it's a good place for a drink and a clam chowder.

Nice Live music. Many family's with kids running around. No liqueur only beer and wine for drinks. The margaritas are made from wine. We didnt have the food but it looked pretty standard. But it is a great spot to watch the sunset.

It's not just a pub, it's a destination that's synonymous with Captiva for visitors. We came for lunch on a picnic table near the dunes. Pines and umbrellas shade most tables, but some seats are in full sun. No waiters outside. Place your order at the inside bar and wait for your name to be called on the intercom. We like to go straight to the outside bar, buy our drinks, then use them to stake out our table before going inside to place our order. Crab patty sandwich - hold the bread - bring on the fries! And lettuce, tomato, dill spear and cole slaw. $12.99

The location is best thing about the Mucky Duck. Tip: Be sure to go for sunset, following the suggestions of the other Yelpers. During high season, get there early (4pm) so you can get in line to put your name on the list (4:30) so you can be in the first seating (5:00). Then, after dinner, step out onto the beach and check out the sunset over the water. Then, take a walk on the funky, vibrant street leading to the restaurant. The food was ok. I was not a big fan of the smoked mackerel app - it was fishier and had a courser consistency than I prefer. The winner was Duck L'Orange, nicely cooked 1/2 duck with succulent skin in a citrus sauce that nicely offset the duck flavors. The Shrimp Combo was ok, but we had better shrimp at other places. I'd heard great things about the Key Lime pie, but be aware it's not a standard custard offering. It's more of a frozen chiffon. Good, but not my favorite (sorry, Aunt Celle!). Service was great. They didn't rush us even with the hundreds of people waiting for our table.

Review is totally based on beverages and location. One of the prettiest places to relax and enjoy a beer and margarita. Great outside bar to grab a drink . It does need more cleanup service at the picnic tables and surrounding area. Love the beach views.

The Mucky Duck was very disappointing for me. I would give it one-star, but my girlfriend thought it was "okay". Probably because she wasn't the one who paid! First and foremost, Food is WAY overpriced. I honestly don't mind spending a lot on dinner, but I expect to get a certain quality of food and it just wasn't there. You can really tell they are price gouging to squeeze the tourists for all they can get. We went for dinner after the sun had already set, so I can't speak of the view. It is right on the beach and I'm sure there is a great view, if you happen to be sat near the window side of the restaurant (we were not). There was outdoor seating, but no one was outside because it was too cold. It didn't even look like it was an option. I'm sure this just changes with the season. The restaurant was small and tight. I felt very cramped and like we were squeezed into a corner. It was much louder than I would have wanted it to be. Kids running all over the place. Waitresses wearing tank-tops and shorts. We had the "Duck Fingers" as a disappointing appetizer. They literally look like something you would find in a cat litter box. All-in-all I would definitely NOT recommend this place if you're looking to have a nice dinner. It might be a decent place to stop for lunch if you're out at the beach, but I really can't say.

Best place to go on Captiva to watch the sunset as other yelpers have mentioned.Wasnt able to go that early this summer but definitely try and make it so you can have a drink and watch the beautiful sunset outside before being seated. We got here around closing time and the reason why my review lacks one star is because of the bitchy hostess who sat us. She basically was rude to us because we came in 30 mins before closing and made sure to let us know the kitchen was going to close soon. Our waitress though was very nice and made me forget about how rude the hostess was. Food is pretty good as well. BBQ shrimp appetizer was yummy but only came with 4 shrimp and we had a big group at the table. Chicken picatta was good as well and came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The chicken was cooked well and was accompanied with a lemon butter sauce that went well with the sides. Creme brulee was nothing beyond ordinary, ive had better.

I don't care how "Touristy" and "Gimmicky" this place is. It's a nostalgic memory from my childhood, and I love it. I have photos of myself at two years old wearing Mucky Duck tee shirts. I still have Mucky Duck tee shirts. (The size has changed a bit since then.) The food is standard island fare, seafood and some steaks, etc. I generally get scallops or shrimp. Yes, they're slightly overpriced. It's Captiva Island, that's to be expected. I'll grab a beer with dinner, and probably one before, or maybe even a fluffy frou frou blended drink with an umbrella. But that's not why you come to The Mucky Duck. You come to chat with locals and tourists alike, make new friends, share your fish tales of the week, maybe make some plans for the next day. You come to meet and be met. People watch. But mostly, you come to watch the spectacular Gulf Coast Sunsets from the Patio or out the Western-Facing windows. The sun turns into a giant, blazing ball of orangey-red, sinks towards the horizon of water, growing larger and larger. The sky turns from blue to purples and pinks, with streaks of orange clouds. If it's a particularly, amazingly clear night, and the humidity conditions are just right, you might even catch a glimpse of the ever-elusive Green Flash. It's worth every moment.

  • Dea C.

I've been here many times--in and out of season. You can dine on their beachfront or inside the restaurant, watching the gulf's movement through expansive windows. I always have the grouper...blackened. If you order the grouper sandwich, you must tell them blackened because it comes"crunchy." But the menu is as expansive as the island view. Speaking of the view, it is beautiful in and out of season. Out if season, Mucky Duck lets you lay on the beach leaving your car safely parked in their private lot--if you dine at their restaurant. I'm season, they are prickly, prickly, prickly about people accessing the beach after dining. Regardless, this is my favorite Captiva restaurant for lunch!

This was a really great place to hang out. My wife and I came here three different times during our week-long vacation. The first two times, we came right after sunset, and sat outside and had a pitcher of KeyWest Sunset Ale. It was really nice, and they have several seats right at the start off the beach (which is actually still a couple hundred yards from the water). They stopped serving outside at 9:00 which was a little off-putting, but whatever. Hey Mucky Duck: if you served outside past 9:00, we would have had another pitcher! Your loss. The third time, we came for lunch. I had the Barbecued Shrimp with Bacon, and my wife had Clam Chowder with Smoked Fish Tapenade. We both enjoyed the food well enough, and the prices were not outrageous. The wait staff was friendly, and they had a good sense of humor. I also really liked the decor: vintage posters, buttons, and little sculpture faces. They have a very good beer selection. A word about music: the music outside the two nights we came was less than stellar. One night it was this band with three guitars who did sort of light rock covers, but the singer was terrible, and why have three guitars?? The guitars were all playing rhythm! Get a bass, and have one of the other two of you play lead!! The second time, it was the guy who played the steel drums and the flute to some karaoke tracks. Not terrible, but it sounded like he taught himself how to play the steel drums just so he could play to these specific songs at venues like this. Mucky Duck - invest in some better musicians! (Maybe you have better ones during your busy season. I'll have to come back sometime and see.)

    (4)

I can say the place is usually full and people seem to be happy walking out. The bar staff is fast and friendly. Get there early if you want to park close to watch the beautiful sunsets.

  • Alisha F.

The reviews for Mucky Duck are all over the place, but interestingly- give you a very good idea of what to expect, and how pleased you will be depending on your desires. After a couple recent visits, here is a summary: + excellent location + decent view from inside as well as outside (prime for sunset) + occasional live music + relatively convenient bar service if you want to grab a drink and enjoy the beach - uninspired menu with passionless execution - menu items not available when ordered - mostly friendly but less than efficient service - indoor seating is crowded - no outdoor service - very limited parking- you might strike out during peak times There are definitely a few bonus points awarded amongst the reviews for tradition and nostalgia that don't equate to any level of quality, but if you recognize that- you might not be horribly disappointed after you drive around for 20 min scrounging for parking. I will return, but recommend hitting it up after the lunch peak for appetizers and a few beers.

What a mess! Thought we'd at last found a parking space in the Mucky Duck parking lot only to have a mannerless lady stand in the spot and physically block our car from parking. She intended to save the spot for her companions -- who apparently were in their car somewhere else on the island. So there she stood with traffic backed up to the street. Would be lovely if management could monitor the lot. Beautiful location but definitely not worth the aggravation. We had a great dinner elsewhere.

Decent food. Nothing outstanding. This place is best for drinks and the view of the sunset. Dinner is overpriced and the menu doesn't contain anything super spectacular. The shrimp appetizer with the spicy sauce was very good, but that was the only thing that stood out. We did have to eat on the early side because we had a toddler with us, but when we ordered key lime pie for dessert it was still frozen. Had a layer of ice on top, and it wasn't very good. Worth stopping in for cocktails and the atmosphere, but there is better food to be had between Captiva and Sanibel.

This place is just plain fun. Follow the duck feet on the floor! The view is the best on the island to watch the sunset. No liquor but great variety of beer and wine. The chili hotdog is one of the best.

Avoid the seafood at this place! Seems like they order too much seafood and it spoils before it can all be served. However, management seems to be unwilling to forfeit the profits for the health of the patrons! My family and I went to this establishment during Labor Day weekend and we paid dearly for the experience! My mom was sick all night from the batch of bad shrimp she was served at this place! We should have take a cue from the rude signs strung all over the walls and from the deplorable conditions of the women's bathroom! Save your stomach and your money and got eat down the black at R.C. Otters. Their service is a little weird, but their seafood is exceptionally fresh!

This is my favorite place to eat on Captiva and the view, especially at sunset, cannot be beat. The duck appetizer is delicious and served with a great raspberry sauce, I had it twice while my husband and I were there for a week. Same goes for the Key Lime Pie and Blueberry Sour Cream Pie - I wish I could have taken a few home! Their seafood is fresh and cooked to perfection and they have a good selection of beers and wine to go with everything. The atmosphere is a huge draw - the front window overlooks the water and gets the best view of the sunset and you can go outside to sit and watch the sun go down with a drink in hand. The waitresses are all sweet and attentive and he prices are great for the quality of food and that view! Oh that view! We can't wait to go back, and I cannot wait for more pie!

WARNING - We are long time customers and fans of this great restaurant, but you should know that there have been some big changes in the past few weeks. - No more true PINTS of beer. Cups have been downsized. - Menu changes: Avalon shrimp and BBQ shrimp are gone from the entree selections. - Salads are no longer included in price of entree and their salads have changed. With pecans and cranberries??!!!! Yuck. - They are now open seven days a week. - Ownership has changed since Jan of 2011. - They should bring back the Mucky Duck Surprise - Milky Way pie for dessert.

I've been coming to Sanibel/Capitva for over 10 years but had never been to the Mucky Duck until our last vacation. It seems like the Mucky Duck is always crowded, but I hadn't really heard much about their food. One thing is for sure, their location is superb. They are right on the beach so it's a great spot to watch those beautiful Florida sunsets. We stopped by on a Monday night in the off season and still had to wait a half hour for a table of four. I thought the food was OK, but the service left a little to be desired. It took our server 15 minutes to even bring us our drinks, which was just water! With a restaurant this crowded, I think they could use some additional servers or bus boys. For the food, I ordered the seafood platter which came with a crab cake, fish filet, bbq shrimp and peel and eat shrimp. I thought the crab cake was tasty and I really liked the cocktail sauce. The fish, however, was very bland and was topped with a flavorless white sauce. All in all, the meal was alright but definitely not worth $25. My husband ordered the stuffed shrimp and loved his entree. The shrimp were filled with a crab meat stuffing, and the dish was quite flavorful. I think our overall impression of the Mucky Duck was that is was OK, but not someplace we will likely come back to. It is overpriced for the food and service and not worth the wait. Also, if you are going to come here, they are closed on Sunday (we made the mistake of trying to come for lunch).

When you are in Captiva must spend time at Mucky Duck. Great beachfront location, cold beer, good food plus an excellent staff.

If your looking for high end cuisine this isn't the place, if your looking for top shelf table service this isn't the place. If your looking for lots of easy to find parking and don't want to wait more than 5 minutes to be seated your in the wrong place. If you are looking for a great place to get a cold beer, some bar food and just stare off down the sandy white beaches and into the blue sea, then my friend the Mucky Duck is the place to go. The Mucky Duck could be putting mustard on roofing shingles and it's going to still have a good amount of business, it's location is just fantastic on one of the best beaches in southwest florida. The food is decent, although a bit over priced (what do you expect, considering the location and the fact that it's almost impossible to buy a house on Captiva for less than a million). During peak season it's common to wait a while for a table, but that's not really a problem because your right on the beach, and they serve beer outside and have nice tables and during the high season they even usually have someone playing music. If your in a hurry your in the wrong place and missing part of the charm of just relaxing and enjoying 'being'. It's also pretty great people watching, it's like a Brooks Brothers casual catalog photo shoot... with lots of families who have been coming here for decades with the Mucky Duck being a requisite stop while vacationing in Southwest Florida. It's true with me and my family, I grew up going here and now my daughters find themselves growing up eating here. I'd recommend everyone go if even just once to have a cold beer and look out over an amazing beach and relax for a few hours. The food is a bit overpriced and isn't anything overly amazing (although it's fine casual bar food, the dinner menu is a bit over priced admittedly). Pros: - Amazing location, fantastic beach - Cold beer and live music on that fantastic beach - Great people watching - You have to wait for a table, normally this would be a con.. but considering the location and the fact that you can buy a beer while waiting, I consider it a 'pro' to actually have to wait. Cons: - Parking sucks if you come at peak times, get here early... - Table service is spotty during the peak times - Food is a bit overpriced

The Mucky Duck is tucked away down close to the beach. It has a small car park, which we lucky to find a space in for a late lunch. Had to wait outside for 5 minutes before getting our table. Our server was friendly and didn't rush our choices. My partner had the grouper and I had BBQ shrimps in bacon. We both enjoyed our meals and the window view overlooking the beach. Not gourmet, but what you'd expect at this sort of establishment.

Great little beachside restaurant. Relaxed and casual, but more pub than beachy. Service is excellent, food is very good.

Location, location, location! You would think on an island as beautiful as Captiva there would be lots of waterfront dining options. Sadly that is not true. Fortunately the Mucky Duck makes up for the lack of choices. The place is literally on the beach and is THE place to watch the sun set. There is music outdoors on the patio most evening. What a great place to share a beer or glass of wine, an appetizer of BBQ shrimp or Bang Bang Shrimp and watch the ocean. The food is pretty basic and good, but not great. The view more than makes up for any shortfalls. Kick back, enjoy the view and hopefully the company you are with.

ALERT - if you're coming here for the sunset, get here at LEAST 45 minutes before the sun is scheduled to set. The parking lot is tiny, the place is packed, and none of the businesses down the street allow you to park in their lots, even if you purchase something from their business - we learned the hard way, and were chewed out by the self-proclaimed owner of all the adjacent properties. Moving on..... I didn't know what to expect, clearly - I wore heels, and promptly sunk in the sand in the outdoor seating area. Whoops! Others in my group tried some appetizers and weren't too crazy about some of them - there was a salmon dip that they were all saying that they didn't like. I got some buffalo chicken tenders with bleu cheese that were pretty good - not greasy and the bleu cheese was great. Overall it's best to go there for the sunset and the outdoor ambiance. Once it gets dark, they turn on the heat lamps outdoors so that you're not cold, which is great. There is some nightly entertainment that is hit or miss. Beer prices are reasonable and the staff is extremely friendly. It's a must to see the sunset here at least once during your stay on the island!

This is a really cool place with a terrific view, gorgeous outdoor seating and great service. Why the low rating? The food SUCKS! It was to the point of being inedible. I would have rather eaten a frozen meal than that! It wasn't just my food, either. We all tasted things from one another's plates. =P If I ever go back I'll just go there to drink...the problem with that is if you don't drink beer they only serve those drinks with that low percentage liquor mixed in. Tasty but no fun! :( The highlight of this visit (other than the weather and awesome view) was the local lady that came over with her large birds and let people hold them and take pics. It was like being at a zoo! ha ha ha

Sucky Duck is more like it. The best thing about the meal was the beach outside, and had my wife and I thought of it at the time, the sand there might have been a better choice of entree. Each course was worse than the last. We began with an appetizer of oversized, gelatinous, and utterly flavorless oysters. Thank God for horseradish. My wife's grouper was spongy and bland. My nine year old couldn't even eat the grilled cheese, which looked and tasted like the sandwich she has in a plastic food set at home. Perhaps Robinson Crusoe or some other castaway might have found the food edible, but he might have struggled to pay the inflated prices, and would do better eating the shells he could gather on Captiva.

A must to have a beer, watch the sun set, and listen to music. They close a little early (9:30pm) some days, and the food is not great. Suggestions are just go there to drink, watch the sunset, and relax. The street is a dead end and feels so quiet and a great bike ride to it if staying on Captiva.

Went to Sanibel/Captiva for the first time, leaving our place on FMB. It was about a 40 min ride, and it is well worth it. First, along the way, hit the beaches where you can as the shelling is great. As for this trip, it was my wife and myself, plus kids 5 and 9. We had high hopes and were not disappointed. Ambiance was classic beach. It is tucked away at the end of a block, feet from the beach. Band playing beach songs outside, and an outdoor bar to help pass time during what can be a long wait. Inside is nothing special, but it is packed and has great energy. 5 stars Service was very good. 4 stars Wait was about an hour, but again, that time went fast watching the band outside with a few glasses of wine. They have a silly ring game for kids to play that helps them pass the time, and it does help! Can also take a quick walk to the beach. Parking is the real negative here. They do not take reservations, and once the lot fills up you're forced to circle until something opens......almost a waiting list for parking! They do however have a waiting list to be seated, and the time they quoted us was pretty accurate. Would be a 4, but the parking brings it to 3 stars for the wait. It is what it is though as there is no where else to park!, Food was very good. I had a Filet Mignon and it was like butter, and I eat my fair share of steaks, so I was impressed. My wife had the fried scallops and they were tasty. My oldest had the grouper and liked it. My youngest had the fish and chips and also liked it. For apps we had calamari and the duck fingers and they were both delish. 4 stars. After dinner we went to the beach and watched the sunset, still listening to the band. Take the trip, deal with the wait, and enjoy the night!

Probably one of the most beautiful and hidden spots at Sanibel. This place reminds me of a Hampton restaurant. Very good selection of seafood, great service, great view and entertainment (live bands). Keep it up Mucky Duck!!

The food is okay - typical pub fare; nothing to write home about. But the views out front of the beach at sunset are amazing. forego eating inside. get yourself a table outside, order some appetizers and cocktails and enjoy.

The best beach/sunset combo we had on our vacation goes to this place, an English-styled pub (for some reason) with horrific parking. We were only here for drinks, as the food prices were sky-high and the wait was incredibly long. But you can bring your beer outside and watch the Gulf, so that's nice. Ring toss available.

This place has a great location for watching the sunset, therefore it gets crowded; but it's not crowded because the food is great. The food was marginal at best, but the view and ambiance made up for it. The Duck Fingers appetizers were good, but all three of our meals were just OK.

A great experience! Not sure why there are any negative reviews of this place. I had the Grouper Cafe Paris with the red potatoes and green beans and enjoyed it very much. My husband had the BBQ Bacon Wrapped Shrimp and WE ALL loved it! My one child exact words were "what is this magnificent deliciousness". The views are well worth the price of the food and the service was wonderful. I am happy to give them 5 stars!!!

Wow! Excellent. Get there at 5pm to get a table. Coconut shrimp was great. The clam chowder was perfect. Very good service. Nice bar selection. Don't miss it if you come to Captiva.

The buffalo wings are good. The clam chowder was good too. The crab cake sandwich was not good. It had a bad after taste. It really tasted fishy too. After you eat you can walk on the beach right in front.

I cannot say enough about The Mucky Duck! I LOVE this place!!! We'd never been to Sanibel Island before but a friend recommended a little divey place called The Mucky Duck. When we arrived, it was packed!! Everyone wanted to eat at the beach side pub that day, I guess. They only do valet parking, which is free, but it's to deter folks from using up the parking lot just for beach access. But, we just parked ourselves as we didn't see the valet guy, or gal. Inside, we were greeted right away but saw that people were sitting around, waiting to be seated. Anyone that knows us knows that we do NOT like waiting to be seated at a restaurant. We were told it'd be 25 minutes. That's not good info when we've just finished hiking miles through the marsh along with a cranky 6 year old. We were just discussing leaving to find somewhere else, when we were seated. It literally took 30 seconds. We did have to wait a while for our food, but that's ok. At least I know they're actually making it. I went with the special; the crunchy grouper sandwich. I do love to eat fish but I rarely stray from my tilapia or salmon. But we were on vacation and I was trying to try new things wherever we went. I'm so glad I did. That grouper was mac!!! It was so stinking good!! My husband had the fish and chips, which he often has but he loved it here!! Our daughter had.... wait for it.... the grilled cheese. It was incredible! I wanted to eat it myself, if cheese doesn't tend to try to kill me. Our server was awesome, even joked and played fun tricks with our daughter to pass the time. The prices were fine; more than what you'd fine at a chain but less than I'd planned on spending for some actual good food. The location is right on the shore, just off the main road through Sanibel Island on the Captiva Island side. After lunch, we did stop at their gift shop to pick up a cute Mucky Duck t-shirt for our girl. If you are even close to this place, just go!!

I remember going to Mucky Duck 30 years ago and it hasn't changed much since then. Parking places are difficult to come by but we lucked out. We arrived about 1:00 PM on a Monday and had to wait about 20 mins for a table. They had a lot of fried seafood on their menu. We started off with clam chowder which was really thick and hot, my whole family enjoyed it. The rest of the meal was just ok, nothing special. I felt like we were eating frozen fish and fries. However, the view is beautiful and it's all about the location!!

Just ok. Crab patty sandwich very fishy tasting. Grouper sandwich good, fries nothing special just beer and wine here. Cocktails limited an half strength can't serve anything else. Ok for lunch but not a fun hangout.

We did not eat at the Duck this time around. But the sunset festival and service is outstanding. The only criticism I would have is the music needs to a bit more lively.
