Excited with a new Japanese restaurant in Polk, I quickly was disappointed. Let's start with ambiance. ZIP. The floor is a poured rubber floor and is slick as can be on a rainy day--very dangerous to walk on. Feeling safe is important in any public place and this was like being in a skating rink. The help are very nice Hispanic people for the most part--but doesn't "feel" Japanese-y. Everyone's very serious and not welcoming. Because it's the hibachi grill style--they want to seat the whole hot table before starting cooking. We were one of the first seated and this involved over a half hour wait for others to be seated (and their water drinks gotten and their soup and salad served to catch up with where we were in the meal.) Now let's talk food. The salad was small with fresh iceberg but the ginger dressing is severely watered down making in unappetizing. ($1.50 as a side, included with the meals.) The soup is an onion soup--mine was a clear broth with one floating slice of mushroom and one slice of scallion. ($1 as a side, included with the meal.) It had a fine buttery flavor. I was disappointed the meal is not served with the Asian flat ceramic spoon or chopsticks. They did oblige me with chopsticks upon request. The hibachi chef never smiled and didn't do tricks. The no tricks was fine--we were anxious to eat. The fried rice was great--though over-doctored with soy sauce for my tastes. The toasted sesame added to the dish. He asked if we wanted the "white sauce or the other sauce". We said we had no clue so he gave us both. More appetizing names might have been helpful. "Other" meant a ginger-soy sauce, very flavorful. "White sauce" meant typical Japanese yummy sauce which one girl patron was busy shouting "it's just mayo and ketchup" making it less appetizing than it really was. Most used them to drown their meal rather than dipping in it occasionally. The stir fried zucchini and onions were good Two in my party ordered "sliced steak". It was horrible--tasted freezer burny (though it came out a fresh red color). It was overcooked and very dried out as well as chewy. We would NEVER order it again and left most behind. My friend ordering shrimp thought it was very good--but only got four shrimp in the order (of steak & shrimp). Someone else loved their salmon. Portions are huge of the rice and veggies. Prices are really decent. But I found very little to like about the place--it was a bad imitation on a "Japanese experience". Within thirty minutes of eating, let's just say the food went right through me--that's usually a sign of too much MSG or not-so-good food. Life's too short to eat at places like this.

I've got to exactly agree with Deke. The original in Winter Haven was not so good because it was in a building not suitable, kinda run down. The Mikasa was fun but it closed. Then this new one was built. I've spent a lot of time in Japan and know the food and culture. I also know the owner's family and a relative of mine helped put in the flat tops, telling us how good the interior was. We were very excited. Maybe too much expectation. But the rest of the review is exactly like Deke's

My least favorite local Japanese place. The Auburndale location is gross but WH is ok. I asked them not to put sesame seeds on my food and they covered it in sesame seeds then got mad when I asked them to remake it. Go across the street to Sakuras! Way better!!

Food is delicious! All sauces and dressings are homemade & cannot be duplicated. Meals are reasonably priced.

MUCH nicer than the location in Winter Haven. Had the special (N.Y. Strip steak, chicken & shrimp) and added side of scallops. Steak a little tough, recommend you upgrade to filet for $2.50 more. Scallops were excellent!! Shrimp was very good. The chef's do not do any showing off unfortunately. I noticed that none of the employees ever smile. A smile goes a long way in making you feel good about a place. Building is new, has a fresh feel to it. The guy (host?) that seated us and took our order was hot!

I love Osaka a lot & it's been a very long time since I dined here since I live far way now. The prices are reasonable in my opinion, food taste ok, employees are friendly, and the atmosphere is ok overall. During this particular visit a few days ago, I was not impressed any longer due to a few components. Interior is clean, well-spaced, enough room for large parties, and not as tightly closed in. The food tasted somewhat bland to my liking. I didn't have to wait long to be seated, but we did wait a long time for the chef to arrive at the cooking table. I ordered the Osaka special and scallops on the side. The special comes with: soup, salad, chicken, steak, shrimp, rice, and vegetables. It's a great price at a great value. I recommend getting this meal because it is a lot of food. I think my rating is low because I am so use to Kobe's Japanese Steakhouse. The lighting is dimmer, atmosphere is more classy and romantic, the chef is entertaining to you while they are cooking, and you get more food like potatoes and noodles. I would like to see Osaka add some dimmer lights and change the chefs to entertaining chefs or least talk to customers while cooking. I would suggest this restaurant for locals only or stop in if you're in the area.

Japanese Restaurant in name only. Think bad Chinese buffet along with every corner cut for service. You cannot even sub any menu items for a charge either. Not worth visiting at all.

Is normally one of my favorite places to eat but coming to he auberndale one took 30 mins to just get drinks 20 mins before we were even asked what we wanted to drink or if we wanted to order any appitaziers. Very upsetting this time. I'll go the winter haven from now on that has better sevice.
