I wasn't crazy about their breakfasts either. Go on a Sunday afternoon (be forewarned about the church crowd) and try the buffet. It is delicious home-cooked comfort food. Fried chicken, baked chicken, turkey and stuffing, turnip greens, green beans, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, CARROT SOUFFLE (omg, the best!!) Give it another try. Don't waste your time or calories on the desserts, very mediocre (except for the peach cobbler...its not too bad.) I also hear the seafood buffet on Friday nights is pretty good.

Great fried chicken and fried pork chops on Thursday. Standard country buffet food. Agree with others that food can be bland and a higher quality ingredient would improve the food dramatically. But as fast as the food goes I can understand why they use mostly canned veggies. The carrot soufflé is very good. 3 stars for the friendly staff and consistently good chicken and chops.

**I will come back to Brown's at some point and review them on an actual meal. This review is solely for the take-out breakfast.** This morning my boss offered to treat me to breakfast. Brown's is less than two minutes away from my job and has a reputation as an excellent buffet. He recommended the bacon & egg sandwich highly. Everyone who ordered (except me) got that sandwich. I went with scrambled eggs, sausage, grits and toast. Regular ol' diner fare that any greasy spoon should be able to do well. The restaurant was on a 20-minute take-out delay when I called in the food, so that may have had something to do with it. All the same, this was probably one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had. All of the food was cold. Not lukewarm, COLD. The eggs were crusted on top and runny in several places underneath. All in all, quite terrible and a meal that would have absolutely been sent back to the kitchen if I had been on premises. Everyone else enjoyed their food, so I have no idea what went wrong with mine. I'll get them another shot ... just not sure when and not sure if I'd be willing to pay for it myself.

I was definitely torn between 3 and 4 stars, but then I remembered that I wasn't in Atlanta anymore; and for Gainsville, this place is pretty good. Be forewarned, the only reason to go is for the buffet, and it's all southern comfort food. Options include fried chicken, baked chicken, chicken dumplings (a lot more dumpling than chicken, but that might've been my favorite), meatloaf (looked dry), corn, green beans (A+), turnip greens (pleased my mother), biscuits, cornbread, dinner rolls, salad (DIY, didn't look like anyone ever makes salad though), and a slew of desserts (pies, puddings, and cakes. Tip - the banana pudding is artificially flavored, I wouldn't recommend). Obviously, drink options include sweet tea (the only kind served in the south haha). Overall, not a bad little place, and if you're in Gainsville, you don't have a ton of options anyway. Reminds me a smaller, more country version of Picadilly.

You have to go here for breakfast. A MUST!!! All was good. Down to the very last drop. I have had their dinner twice but their breakfast? Off the chain!!!

For $8 per person, you get unlimited access to southern home cooking. Fried everything... veggies cooked with fat/meat... all washed down with sweet tea. The fried chicken is fantastic. The food quality is what you would expect if you were giving people unlimited amounts for $8. Still, not a bad way to get food cooked the way grandma used to.

Decided to take the family to Browns for Sunday breakfast. Price is fair at 9.50 a person except when you have small kids that only eat a little it seems a bit pricey. Secondly food was ok but not fantastic I have stopped many mornings on my way to lake city and food was great ordered to go ,but the buffet was not nearly as good. Might have caught them on a bad day. Try it for yourself just my opinion.

All in all the food was pretty good. The Biscuits and sausage gravy were amazing. The bacon was decent. They have real eggs not powdered eggs. They have most of your typical breakfast choices including pancakes! Good place to eat

I ate breakfast here this morning and it was disgusting. The bacon was over cooked to the point of being like store bought bacon bits and not much bigger. How anyone can serve bacon like that with a straight face is beyond me. All the sausage was greasy and overdone like the bacon. Seriously, how can they not know it's that bad? A total waste of money.

Decent 'country' buffet. Been here a couple of times with family when visiting the area. The fried chicken has been just short of crispy on the outside, and tender and juicy inside. Carrot soufflé was unusual, but quite good. There's usually 5 or 6 meat dishes, and a like number of veggies, many probably straight out of a #10 can with a bit of doctorin'. One steam table holds the meats and veggies, another "cold" station has salads and dessert items, and there's a third station with cake-type desserts. It can get a little crowded at the main station from time to time. Watiresses are good at keeping your drink refilled. Brown's has always been full when I've been for dinner, but the wait has never been long. Parking is sometimes a challenge, be mindful that people leaving may be in a food coma and run you over. Nothing to stop me going back the next time I'm in town, so... I will.

Great little place to grab some country cooking. The wife and I moved to Gainesville last March (2014) from South Carolina . I can tell you, I was raised in the country on food just like this and I eat here at least twice a week. Great food and great service . Keep it up!

Brown's serves cheap food quickly, and by cheap I mean both in cost and in quality. I used to eat here fairly frequently but figured it would probably better for my health if I took it easy on their fried chicken. The chicken happened to be the one thing off their buffet that I thought they did well. Everything else on their buffet was passable, but tasted bland. I'd prefer to pay more and have them use higher quality ingredients. They seem to do a good business, and have a large number of regulars so I doubt they'll shake things up by going that route. The staff and management were always a pleasure to do business with, and was one of the reasons why I would come despite my feelings about the quality of their food. As another reviewer mentioned, they do get slammed on Sunday for lunch. They also aren't open for dinner on Sunday. Service - 4 stars Food - 2 stars Atmosphere - 2 stars

I was so pleased to find a country buffet a little closer to Gainesville. Normally, my family makes the trek all the way to Lake City for Ole Times. So Brown's is much more convenient for everyone. The food is not as delicious as Ole Times, and the selection is much smaller. But, I take what I can get. It is fresh and the main staples of country cuisine can be taken advantage of. Don't come here for carry-out service, the buffet is where it's at. Lunch time on a weekday is pure entertainment, filled with locals and happy travelers. The fried pork chops are thin cut and crispy, great with hot sauce. The fried chicken is fresh, fulfilling, but of the non-crunchy variety. Chicken and Dumplins' is more dumplings than chicken, my favorite preparation. The dumplings are chewy and divine. The mac and cheese is partially processed cheese food, but it still decent. I steer clear of the canned okra and tomatoes. Other than that, everything else on the hot bar is fine. The sweet tea is perfect, served with lime instead of lemon. There are almost as many desserts as there are savory items; cake, coconut cream pie, custard, and multiple flavors of cobbler. I have yet to touch the salad bar. The complimentary bread basket is often by request only, unless you are a regular. And, the waitresses here are likely to give you some tuuude for asking. Don't let them hurt your feelings, it is more like tough love. You can have soft rolls (not tried yet), masa cornbread (creamier texture), or ultra-buttery biscuits. Friday night is the catfish and shrimp buffet for about $10.39. Bring your appetite, and check out the country fashions. Ya'll come get some fixin's, ya hear!

Consistently good food. Not a big buffet or a fancy place by any means, but what they offer is good. PORK CHOP THURSDAY! Need I say more? Only been for lunch and never disappointed.

Been here for lunch twice in a row. All you can eat fried chicken...yum! Great place to eat for your southern comfort food cravings. Beware, you'll probably want to take a nap after. Enjoy!
