HORRIBLE! I decided to give this place a second chance, and I definitely won't be back. We ordered the chicken, cheddar, and avocado sandwich and my stomach feels gross just thinking about it. The chicken was soggy and mushy and tasted rancid. The cheese looked like plastic and the avocados were hard. There was NOTHING good about the sandwich. We also ordered the Salmon Sandwich. They were out of the dill aioli and failed to tell us until the food was ready, so we received a salmon fillet and a lettuce leaf on bread. Service was also horrible. One star for the outdoor seating area.

Yikes. Not even a handful of patrons for the lunch hour and they are out of many items-calamari, soup and no weekly specials. We ordered and paid for it, as well as 45$ worth of food, then was told " no calamari". My co-lunchers, asked for a refund at this point, and to cancel the order. The cashier initially refunded her less money than what she was charged. Avoid this sonoma.y

Worst Sonoma Chx Coop ever, wait time for the food 55mins because they are under staff on a SATURDAY? Oh c'mon! Puhleaase ! We ordered Calamari, Roost Chx 1/2, roasted artichoke, and their special salmon platter with avo and red sauce. After 35mins, i followed up my order and asks id I can even have my calamari at least. Then at 40min. My dad followed up his 1/2 chx which they said another 5mins, after 5 he got his chx but what keeps me confused is the salmon that's the last to arrive which they said another 5 mins? What the f$ck! Seriously! Had I known that'll be an almost an hour wait for a not so interesting food. We could've just go to downtown campbell or the airport location. This place sucks! Understaff ....verrrrryyy slowwww service! = customer who will NEVER ever be back in this resto!

Decided to come here the other night, it was very empty so that was worrying me a bit, but after entering the place has several guest. We placed our order and could smell the food and it was delicious. We placed our order, paid and the received our glass for our drinks. Here is where the meal could have been better, the drink machine were not all working, it looked like they could have maintained the area better, but let me say if this is the only area where we had a bad experience then we are doing good. In less that a few minutes, our order was ready for us to pick up, which we did the meal was hot (stove hot) and delicious. We ate our meal and were very full which was good especially this evening as it was chilly outside, so not bullies full and time to get home and relax. Overall the staff was helpful and pleasant. The soda area needed some help, the manager was helpful too. We will be back again.

Sonoma Chicken Coop (SCC) is a locally owned, and operated, chain of family-friendly restaurants that started up in 2002. They serve up a nice selection of American fare (e.g., pizza, pasta, salads, chicken, burgers, etc.), and all their items are made "fresh, from scratch." I've always had good luck eating at two of their other locations (Downtown SJ & Airport), but have yet to make the trip to this Almaden Valley location--despite it only being a few miles from my house. I think the 2.5-star Yelp average always scared me off, but I finally decided to buck up and give them a try. I had some work in the area, so I came down with some co-workers, on two separate days, to see what's happening, and each experience was worse than the next. Experience #1: We arrived at SCC around 11:45 a.m., and despite them being "open" since 11 a.m., the doors were locked and the lights were out. We flagged down an employee who confirmed they were indeed open, and he proceeded to let us in. We then placed our orders (Tangy Pork sandwich w/Sweet Potato Fries), paid and sat down with our buzzers to alert us when our orders were ready. My co-workers received their orders, and began to eat. 15 minutes later I still did not have my food, and when I went to inquire about my food, they said they're just frying up the fries right now--I looked in the back and there was a basket of sweet potato fries just sitting there above the fryer. As I returned to my seat I overheard the manager (older Asian fellow) yelling at the cooks in the back calling them "stupid" and "lazy." When I stared back at him he began to laugh like it was all some kind of joke--professional with a capitol "P." Five minutes later I received my food: the meat tasted old; the bread was stale; and the fries were cold. I really should've returned it, but I'm not like that... Experience #2: I'm usually always willing to give places a second chance, especially ones that I've had success with in the past; maybe they just had a bad day? Wrong. This time we arrived slightly before noon, and the doors were open (huzzah!). We placed our orders (Lime Grilled Chicken), paid and sat with buzzers in tow. This time my buzzer rang 1st, and I picked up my food within 20 minutes--not exactly lightning speed, but I don't mind if everything is being made to order. My two co-workers sat around and watched me eat, and around 12:40 they started to get frustrated. After going up to inquire, they were completely ignored before someone gave them a glib, "It's coming..." Several parties, who had arrived 15-20 minutes after us, had already received their orders. Mind you, my co-workers didn't order anything extravagant (Portobello Burger and Chicken and Mushroom Sauté), so the length of the wait is inexcusable. Finally, at 12:50, their buzzers rang (we suspect they were still out back harvesting the Shrooms and slaughtering the chicken...). The food this time was decent; nothing awful but nothing to write home about. With consistently awful service and mediocre food, I'm never setting foot in this location again. I suspect it's a management issue with this one store, and not a restaurant-wide concern. However, I will be pretty hesitant visiting other SCC locations in the future. Sometimes Yelp is wrong, and sometimes Yelp is right; in this case, they hit it dead on. So, in summation, if you like to be treated badly and love mediocre food, then come on down. The rest of us with a modicum of self-respect will find other places to spend our money. You've been warned.

The food is ok & if you have someone who listens to your spoken order, and gets it right, then cool. The woman's restroom is disgusting. Messy and the counter top is atrocious.

Oops! We came here after a hike and thought we could have a nice dinner before the Big Game, even though they had a little advertisement on the door about a Super Bowl party. When we got there, there were only a few people in the restaurant and we thought we had lucked out, but it soon became clear why no one was in the restaurant. While the restaurant was almost empty, we had a difficult time finding any tables that were wiped clean. Ugh! I finally had to ask the cashier after she rung up my order to have someone clean off our table. She sent someone over, but it was like he had never cleaned a table before. While he cleared the table next ours of dirty dishes, it took him awhile to come back and wipe our table clean. Meanwhile, all the other tables around us had bits of food on the tables. It's not like they were busy. So we sat there waiting for our food. And waited. And waited. Normally, if we go to the Campbell restaurant, they'll have the food ready before we get to our table. Here, we had waited 20 minutes and still no food. I mean, we were the only ones who had ordered. While we were waiting, this big group of people had come in and pushed the TV over and everyone was sitting down to watch the Super Bowl. They turned the volume way up, so it was time that we got the heck out of there. We decided to have our food to go. So I walked up to the front counter and told them that we wanted our food to go and they said they would and that they were still waiting for the artichoke to grill. I went back to my seat and we waited and we waited. I swear, it was like they were growing that artichoke out back and waiting for it to get ripe. Meanwhile, the SuperBowl was getting louder and louder and we had had enough. I walked back up there and they gave me my order. We then went out to our car, but smartly, I decided to check our order. Lo and behold, they messed it up. They didn't include the pizza that comes with every order. So my wife walks back up there to get our pizza slices and they tell her that they couldn't make the pizza because the oven was being used to make someone else's pizza. They were willing to not fill our order correctly just because they couldn't cook two things at once. Look, Sonoma Chicken at Market, Skyport, and Campbell are good. I'm sorry to say that the service, atmostphere, and food is just not good. I'm sure others feel the same way because this place could be crowded and it wasn't. Too bad. Save you ducats and find a better place just up the road off Blossom Hill or further north on Almaden Expressway.

I went to Sonoma chicken coop this weekend and I hadn't been there for many years. I had very low expectations because I remember disliking it in the past. The restaurant was for the most part empty when I walked in. The man at the counter was very friendly and helpful. My friend didn't know what soup she wanted so he gave her healthy sized samples of both! I ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo. It was a good sized portion and only $11! The best part was that they didn't even skimp you on the chicken like most restaurants! My friend got chicken kabobs and they took super long to come out and she complained the chicken wasn't cooked correctly. Other than that, I can't wait to come back! They have artichokes as a side that I can't wait to try (unfortunately they're out of season right now)

WORST. LOCATION. EVER. I hate to be harsh but this location is terrible! Purchased a Groupon thinking we'd get the same quality/service as the Campbell location (our regular go-to location) but unfortunately, our experience was not good. 1. Walked in at 11:40 am, no cashiers to be found. Stood at the front for at least 5 minutes while the cooks kept looking at us but made no effort to alert the cashiers that they had customers waiting. 2. Ordered a cobb salad & rotisserie chicken. Sat down at our table & the cashier comes to us telling us that their rotisserie was broken and that we could order whatever else we wanted off the menu. Okay, fine. 3. Salad came first - it's almost noon...no dressings were in the salad bar 'station'. Another customer had to ask a lady who was cleaning the tables for a small side of whatever dressing he wanted. Finally, a guy comes out from the back & places the dressings in the station but no ladles to serve yourself (GEEZ). I went to the dressings, picked up the little plastic cup & scooped out my own dressing since there weren't ladles or any staff around. 10 minutes later, another guy came out with the ladles. 4. Salad wasn't very fresh. Tomatoes seemed really soft & old, asked for extra egg, didn't get it so had to ask again. Their "focaccia" came to me super soggy & quite bland. 5. Friend's steak came out okay but wasn't cooked exactly the way he requested. NO, SMH, JUST NO! Never going back & I do NOT recommend this location! Go to Campbell location or downtown SJ!

Sonoma Chicken is a middle of the road restaurant with great variety and manageable seating for groups. I prefer the Campbell Sonoma Chicken versus Almaden Valley location because Campbell feels a bit more new and it's centrally located. Occasionally (Thursday's maybe?) the Campbell Sonoma Chicken has live music - which is always a treat. I enjoy the lunch special of half salad & half sandwich with a drink :) Enjoy!

Every restaurant chain has a bad apple!! Or a bad chicken in this case. Food and service has diminish. Since my first visit 4 years ago. You know something is bad in the restaurant when all the kitchen staff walks out!!!! The cooks, the. Majority immigrants put up with a lot of crap from management in any restaurant. For them to all walk out, it was bad. Now the new staff is learning on the job. Like the new bartenders they get every few months. Will stop for a beer now & then. Hope management is not looking for a way to cut cost on tap beer.

Sonoma Chicken Coop is not the ideal place for a quiet and romantic date, but it does works well for a family or group gathering. With simple, classic American food, everyone is sure to find something they will like on this menu. With some small differences, all five Sonoma chicken locations pretty much have the same menu. Some are more likely to do items off the menu than others. On my visit last night, my first one to this location (I usually frequent the downtown Campbell or downtown San Jose location), I noticed that that the green veggie risotto (my favorite) was no longer on the menu. I was told that both the green veggie risotto and grilled salmon risotto are apparently now permanently off ALL Sonoma Chicken menus as of Monday. They didn't offer to make it for me "off the menu." I only mention this because three weeks ago I was at the downtown Campbell location, where the green veggie risotto has been off the menu for at least a year, and they offered to make it for me "off the menu." Oh well. For those new to Sonoma Chicken, these other items have been my favorites over the years. Keep in kind that I usually get he green veggie risotto 50% of my visits, so these are just the close seconds: 1. Rotisserie Chicken with Lemon Vingerette: if you like capers, this dish is for you! The chicken (I usually get the dark meat) is almost always tender and juicy. You can get the sauce either on the side or over the chicken. 2. Roasted Artichoke with Aioli: This side item is one of my favorites. If you like working for the taste of your food, you will enjoy peeling each piece and dipping it into the tasty sauce. 3. Apple Harvest Salad: I haven't seen a location not carry this. It's healthy, it's crisp, and it hits the spot for a tasty lunch that won't make you fall asleep mid-afternoon. The pasta dishes, in my opinion, tend to be overwhelmed with sauce. Not bad tasting, but nothing terribly special either. Whatever you do, don't forget to make sure they give you a slice or two of their pizza bread with your meal. You can also sometimes ask for a second slice!

I've been coming here for years. I will say the quality of food has declined and has become inconsistent. Then I came here for lunch today and guess what -- a live cockroach was underneath my table. I calmly told one of the teenage employees who came and got it. He admitted it wasn't the first one he'd seen but said the problem wasn't too bad. Sorry, cockroaches don't come as only one -- there's clearly something going on. Clearly I couldn't, or didn't want to, finish my food after that. I was not offered a reimbursement for my food. It was flippant. I took a picture and posted it.

Tried them one more time to see if anything changed - NOT! After waiting forever for our food, I went up to the front counter and asked about our food. The guy (I think was the manager) said that it would take a bit longer. I asked why it took so long for a sandwich and a salad - he responded with "you have no idea what is going on back here." True, but I did not think that was a reasonable response for such a lengthy wait for our food. He seemed to be overwhelmed and the kitchen was out of control. BTW, the restaurant was probably only 25% full on a weeknight around 6:00 PM. Never going back again...

This is the worst of the chain. The location is dirty (tables sticky, bathroom smelly and generally dirty, even menus had a residue). It feels like a bar more than a restaurant, and while they do have a bar, it feels like a real, dedicated bar. The menu looked good, and I ordered a Mediterranean Chicken Kabob plate with breast meat. My family ordered basic fare for the chicken coop. We waited a long time (well, longer than any of the other locations we've been to), and what I got was a pseudo-Mediterranean plate with flavorless rice and salad, and thigh meat chicken. I brought the plate back to the counter to ask what I had ordered, and was told that my dish was in fact made with breast meat, without so much as an inspection. I'm no spring chicken myself, and I know the difference between breast and thigh meat. So I asked if maybe the pinkish color was because the chicken was undercooked, and the bovine stare I got back told me everything I needed to know about the staff here. Nobody in the management here cares enough to run a clean restaurant or hire people who even know what they're selling. I won't be back to waste more of my money here. I'm wishing I had gone to the pizza joint in this shopping center instead.

Tried to order 3 different dishes and they were out of all of them. Tri tip and Reuben were specials that they were advertising and steak which is on the menu. The young man behind the counter was not as nice as he should have been in a situation like this. The manager was not apologetic either. The food we did get was good but was not good enough to make me forget how I was made to feel about ordering food they advertise! I will not be coming back.

Stunningly mediocre. I ordered the seafood linguine. The cream sauce was noticeably salty. What little seafood there was (two clams, one mussel, three shrimp, some calamari) was tasteless. My girlfriend ordered the chicken marsala over risotto. The rice was salty and dry, probably the worst risotto ever. The chicken tasted like something brown from a school cafeteria, also noticeably salty. The bill was almost $40. The food was stunningly mediocre, bordering on awful. This place has all the signs of a cook with no tastebuds and management that doesn't care. We won't be returning.

CLOSED as of April 27, 2015. Very poor management, poor service. All employees knew it was coming hence the skeleton crew this past month struggled to stay afloat. Used to be 5 stars but this past 2 Yeats it fizzled out.

We went here today and it wasn't crowded which was a nice thing. Our food was done pretty fast. I ordered the chicken Parmesan which was good, pretty big portion also came with spaghetti and pesto on the side. I used a groupon I had previously purchased. Everyone with me seemed to enjoy their food. I tried my friends calamari and I loved it. Next time I want calamari for my entree. My mom and cousin got the something piccata which they both liked but their portions looked so small for 12.99 I thought that was weird. My sister had wings and she loved those too so I must say we had a good time. It started to get busier and very noisy which was annoying but I guess that's what happens when theirs football on. Oh they also have some TV's but not very many and they are kind of small. I'd go back sometime.

Here for lunch and had to ask the waitress to wipe down at least one table as all of them were dirty with crumbs and finger print smudges. She commented that last nights staff failed to do it. Looks like they skipped vacuuming too. I haven't ordered yet and am wondering if this will get worse if I do.

Why is the Campbell location so much better and efficient than this one? My wife and I came in a Monday and she ordered chicken/dark meat. After a long wIt we were served white meat and told they were out of dark. Shouldn't you tell us before serving white? She ordered something else that was supposed to come with fries. While the cook took forever making the sandwich no one bothered to cook up any fries and then we had to wait for those. Needless to say we will be avoiding this location for now on.

We have been regular customers, but sadly the quality of the food and service dropped off during the past 2 months. The staff who worked here for the past few years have left, and the new staff are inexperienced. There is no longer spaghetti for the kids menu, and the marinara sauce for pasta is runny. The chicken tasted old on one occasion, and wasn't fully cooked on another. On one occasion, the pizza wasn't fully cooked. One one occasion, half of the soda offerings worked--but this was fixed on the next visit. They used to have comment cards for patrons, but nobody knew where they were--so I resorted to posting here. That's too bad, as it was easy to just go there after the kids finish up at Lord of Light Art Studio (in the same plaza) and just eat (kids eat free on Monday and Tuesday). I'll continue to watch the reviews to see if things improve. I know they have potential to do well, as the place was great several months ago.

Great place to dine for grown ups with kids. I got my roasted chicken in lemon vinaigrette with capers side of mashed potatoes and glass of white wine. The boy, mac and cheese. t.v. to watch game. Casual atmosphere with fancy food.

Booked the patio area for my girlfriends birthday. We had nearly 80 people and the staff accommodated us very well. We had a great time and the food was very good for buffet style. Again, just a huge thank you to Wayne and his staff for making it a memorable 40th birthday party for all of us! I would highly recommend this location. Plenty of parking and easy to find.

The food here is alright and if I buy the rotisserie chicken meal that comes in 1/4 or 1/2 a chicken I feel like I am eating a healthy meal because it comes with grilled veggies and a slice of pizza. There isn't any fat on the chicken and the meat is lean without much seasoning. The veggies are bland and light. Some other dishes I get there is the chicken parmigiana that comes with a pesto pasta and slice of pizza. The chicken parmigiana is fried with batter and the marinara sauce takes the crispness away and it tastes lightly salted. The ribs here tastes good, the sauce is thick and the meat is tender not sticking to the bone. I eat at this place from time to time.

Let me start off this review with this. I am a pastor of a church and we regularly have 'after service' fellowships where we go as a large group to a restaurant that streamlines payment (IE: pay first, no tips, and no hassling with ticket). We called this location 5 business days in advance to inform them the that we were coming on a given Sunday and requested outside reserved tables. We got a call on the saturday before (@9:30pm) informing us that our request to sit outside no longer available AND that there would be only 2 cooks that day. Well, since we already informed the church that we'd be at this location, we were discouraged because the restaurant DID NOT plan accordingly. AND IT WAS CHAOS! There were very few customers already present...yet they not only keep informing our people that "sorry, we're out of that...." They absolutely made this experience HORRIBLE. 75% of us waited well over an hour for our food. And when we walked up and asked...the response was "2 more minutes, 5 more minutes, its next up...." which were all LIES.... They kitchen staff was in CHAOS!!!!!! They were running around like crazy poeple....yet they were not pumping out dish.. Keep in mind that once our 60 people did get their orders in...there was NO OTHER CUSTOMERS.... since they took the last order...till we left....MAYBE there were 2 other customers that came in. This means that all they had to do was cook our food (no one else)...and still they got it wrong....things were missing....etc etc..... SORRY SONOMA CHICKEN COOP -- WE WILL NEVER VISIT YOUR ESTABLISHMENTS AGAIN! Judging by others that have visited...we are not the only ones who made the same observations.

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who wish to have a decent meal. I have taken food from here before to go and after several months I was just there today with my family and we decided to have a sit down meal. Big mistake! First of all the the utensils were unclean. They were washed alright as they were wet and not dry. However my wife and I found food particles stuck to a fork. The food itself was not great. Was not warm and did not feel like it was fresh. After eating my wife an I walked out feeling our stomachs rolling. Bad idea and I would not recommend this place. I for sure will not be back!!

I've been coming to this location on many different occasions, never disappointed. I like the prices, I like the food and it will never be crowded before 5:30pm. It is clean and staff is courteous. So as far as the bad reviews: relax, this not a michelin award restaurant. Geez peeps!

Came here for lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon and was very disappointed. I haven't been here in years but remembered their large outdoor patio and thought it would be nice for lunch. This location has gone WAY downhill since it opened. When I arrived, I was shocked that it was basically empty on their patio and their outdoor windows to the bar were closed. Seemed to me like a missed opportunity on a nice spring afternoon. My friends and I were able to order and our food came out very quickly, but that was the only good thing about it. The calamari we ordered was very heavily breaded and tasted rubbery, and the chicken sandwich was dry and bland. We wanted to have a drink or two after our meal, and tried to order from the bar. After standing there for over 5 minutes after one of the staff told me someone would be coming, I finally when up to the food counter to order 2 beers and a glass of wine. Again, a missed opportunity here. When I ordered, the girl told me they were out of glasses and I would have to wait for the second beer. I asked her if she could just bring it outside to our table and she agreed. After waiting awhile and nothing ever came out, I went back to the counter and see my other beer just sitting there. As soon as I walked up to the counter, the girl that was going to bring it out saw me and went around the corner, I'm assuming to hide from me. I had to awkwardly stand there and wave someone down to get my drink. All in all this was a surprisingly disappointed experience at the Coop. I would avoid this one completely.

Came here on Superbowl Sunday and got some take out food for family. Service was quick and staff was attentive. The pesto chicken pizza smelled and tasted absolutely delicious. The sonoma wings were seasoned perfectly. I ordered some mac and cheese with a side of french fries...my girls' favorite. Was very surprised at how generous the portions were. The grilled artichokes were also roasted very nicely. Will definitely come again. Well worth the money.

Here it is, my first one star rating on Yelp! And what a well deserving one it is. This place is probably the most unremarkable restaurant I've ever been to. It's located very close to where my parents live, which is why I tried it a couple weeks ago for the second time. If I could replay that decision, I would have driven the extra few miles for a better meal. They serve low quality ingredients and unimaginative recipes for restaurant prices, and my entire family (5 of us) ordered different entrees and all walked out unsatisfied with out meals. Skip it, just skip it. Pop a frozen pizza in your oven, it will be infinitely more satisfying, I guarantee it.

GREAT FOR PARTIES! I was the co-hostess for a group event here in December and I have nothing but positive comments to say. The manager, Wayne, was very accommodating of my lack of planning skills. We were slow to finalize our budget and estimated headcount so my order was placed late - no problem, Wayne and team made it work. When we arrived the patio area we requested had been set up for us, plus we were allowed to bring in our own decorations to add to the holiday festive feel. Wayne checked in on us often to make sure everything was OK, but never in an intrusive way. And I heard nothing but compliments about all of the appetizers we ordered. If you are hosting and event I strongly suggest giving SCC a look. You won't be disappointed!!

Cafeteria feel- really cavernous and noisy. Bright fluorescent lights from kitchen seen from most sitting areas. Food tasted old,not fresh at all. Zero presentation. Most items taste like cheap frozen food, poorly reheated with stale garnishes. Child complained hamburger tasted funny- tasted really off like old fish ? Fries served cold and limp. None of us wanted to finish our food, although hungry. We all felt sick after.Would not return if the food was free. Would love it if a different restaurant moved in to this location, hopefully Aqui.

Went here for lunch with my coworkers. This place is a single story restaurant compared to the Campbell one. There was no line at 12:30 surprisingly. Ordered a BBQ chicken sandwich. It came with chips. The sandwich was good. However I also added sriracha sauce to it because I wanted a little kick to it. My girlfriend destroyed my coke experience and so I'm going to rate the coke here compared to the canned version with ice. Kind of funny right? Well it's a little on the watered down side and not enough coke syrup. Must try? If you haven't eaten at another Sonoma Chicken Will I try again? For lunch if I'm in the area.

I had been to the Campbell one before and had carried out but this was the 1st time I had eaten in and it was really good. We were here for a party but we still ordered our food separately so it wasn't too much of a different experience than if I had come here on my own. They reserved our area with signs and put some of the tables together ahead of time. There was also no one near our area so it was easier to have our gathering with kids roaming around. They took our orders pretty quickly and I appreciated their bar area with a divider from the rest of the restaurant to provide some privacy and so that children wouldn't be exposed to anyone drinking. I forgot to order a dressing for my salad and they were nice enough to bring it out to me along with another person's focaccia bread. I ordered the sonoma chicken cobb salad and for $9.99 expected a pretty simple dish. It was overflowing with all of the ingredients in a nice bowl. The bowl was on a plate so some of the chopped tomatoes fell on to it when I was mixing it with the dressing. The sandwiches my friends ordered also looked delicious. For a true value experience, it was probably slightly pricey by a $1 or 2, but overall, a place I would definitely return to for a meal.

Wasn't sure what to expect considering the yelp reviews. But I was so pleased with the service and food here. I would highly recommend this place. We threw a baby shower for my friend here. Reserved a space for 40 people. Eileen was so easy going and made everything a breeze. The food was great! We had the quesadilla bar, chicken, shrimp and beef skewers. They were very tasty. Thanks everyone for making it a great day! I was extremely pleased with the while experience!!!

Food is really good and portions are generous enough. However, the "kids eat free" deal is not a deal. It's only one kids meal per adult meal and adults have to buy a drink, which is almost half the cost of a kids meal. Plus the kids meals don't include drinks. However since it's cafeteria style there's no significant tip to figure in so there is that. They also need more dressing options. Good for a date night but pricey for a family dinner.

I should have checked this Yelp page before agreeing to come here with my Dad for his recent birthday dinner... He said he wanted the Chicken Coop so I agreed as I can't deny the old man on his birthday. What a horrible experience though. The menus are located up near the entrance. Be sure to take the menu with you when you go to order though because there are none at the counter for you to refer to if needed. We all wanted iced water. We got our cups but then neither of their soda machines had ice in them. Oh, and this was at 4pm on Saturday when there were maybe like 6 other people in the restaurant. It wasn't busy at all. My sister had to tell a worker there was no ice and also tell them the women's bathroom was a mess. When we got our food, my Chicken Parmesan wasn't even warm. Neither was my dad or mom's meal. The manager did come by and offered to heat of the dishes for us but I was so hungry at that point I had already eaten half of it anyway. And for a place that has chicken in the name of the restaurant I really was expecting something that tasted like chicken. It was really disappointing for all of us. I will not be going back unless a really good friend wanted to go for a birthday or something. Even then I would only get a beer, because I will need it.

I've eaten at Sonoma Chicken Coop a few times and have had good experiences in each of those visits. The food is good and the prices are affordable. I especially like the rotisserie chicken and specialty cakes. It's a casual place to visit whether it is with family, friends or coworkers. They also have a bar area where you can watch a local sports game if one is playing. The outdoor patio area is good on a nice day or evening.

Came here for early mother day dinner. Never even heard of this place until my aunt suggested it because it was close to her house and virtually none of the rest of the family. Get there and they have a big a/c dining room, a full bar and a decent outside rear patio dining area. We sit down and look at menu's, get up go to the ordering counter that has zero menu board above the cash register which I thought was extremely odd, so make sure to remember what you ordered from that menu. After ordering they give you this buzzer/blinky pager thing and you go get your drink, utensils and condiments you'll want for yourself or table. In short time I got my order which was half chicken which was exactly what Costco rotisserie chicken taste like with a lame side of mash potatoes and some watered down gravy. Everyone at our table got what they ordered but for the amount of people working there and the amount of DIY from ordering, drinks, condiments, finding napkins or clean forks and looking at tubs of unwashed dishes sitting in the sun on a cart outside on the patio from the brunch time service, well you understand why we've experienced wayyy better.

Very disappointed. My "1/2 lb" steak couldn't have been more than 1/4 lb. About 1/4" thick and well done. I ordered medium. My husbands ribs were cold and greasy and now he is sick. I believe he may have food poisoning. We hadn't gone to a Chicken Coop restaurant for a long time, because a delivery guy told us the kitchens were filthy, but we had a coupon, so we thought we'd give it another try. Don't waste your time, money, or stomach.

Almost a year since the last time I visited here. No difference. I had forgotten how much I didn't care for the Chicken Carbonera, so I ordered it again. Sigh.... same thing. Very, very bland... how do you take the flavor out of bacon for crying out loud? I even added salt hoping to extract some flavor. I hope I remember to skip this place or at least the Chicken Carbonera the next time. The cashier was super friendly and did stop by to ask if we needed anything which was nice.

Wow. Has this place gone downhill or what. Came in for dinner on a Friday night and it was dead. Food was ok but the portion was very uneven. I had chicken and shrimp picatta. One very small half of a breast and 3 shrimp with a bowl full of rice for $13.95 seems ridiculous. The place was dirty which seemed weird since no one was there. Then there was 2 kids running around. They belonged to someone who worked there because they were playing in the kitchen area as well. All in all it seems the whole place went downhill.

Had it with this place today. The only redeeming quality of this location is the patio. Today they reserved the ENTIRE patio to two parties. Had I known before ordering, I would have left. Now I have to eat this barely edible food inside listening to some terrible dance music playing over the sound system. Save yourself the agony of coming here. I wish I had.

Happy hour prices, great. Food quality, not. We ordered chicken wings, which I figure they would know how to make really well given that they are named "Chicken Coop". But. I was wrong. Our first order came out juicy, cold and raw (eep!), and when we sent it back, the second order came out dry, over fried, and over cooked. We got some other dishes, but everything was pretty non-memorable. The beer was good and cheap (they had Blue Moon on tap). The company was great, but I won't want to go back any time soon.

Sonoma Chicken Coop, how far you've fallen. Wow, I was there on Saturday afternoon and the place was like a ghost town. Only a handful of tables were taken. Didn't this place use to be packed on weekends and snagging a table always proved damn near impossible? Still, it's the food that matters. I had the pastrami sandwich daily special. The sandwich was decent, had good amounts of meat, and was served with sweet potato fries. Verdict: Average at best. Ultimately, there're other places with better food at comparable prices. Sad to say but SCC just hasn't been keeping up with the times and competition.

I'm pretty surprised as to how many people rated this place with 1 - 2 stars. The food is really good for what you pay for. Sonoma Chicken Coop is a casual family place with nice food at reasonable prices. They have a great patio area that's perfect for hosting events. I went to a couple of the wine events there and they're usually only 10 - 15 dollars and they have great vendors come out and host wine tasting nights. The owner also is extremely easy to work with regarding your budgets and party needs. More often than not, he'll throw in wine or servers or whatever you need just in case you need it. Definitely a great family owned place that is really building momentum for their business.

My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here thanks to a referral from our pastor. We are so glad we came here. The food was delicious and our guests were well taken cared for. We had the outside patio for a group of almost 40 people, and everyone was happy. We also were given red velvet cupcake to top everything off, and they were yummy! I would of had a second if it weren't for the wedding dress. lol Great place for large parties.

Its tough for me to give a 2 star. The service was very hospitable. the cashier even tried to speak to my special needs kiddo in sign. The food was decent (for what you pay). The place was not crowded on a tuesday evening (even when they have kids eat free specials). It wasnt dirty, but the atmosphere appeared old. I want to try the one in Campbell in a more "happenin'" area of town. Last time i drove by there it was completely packed. Who knows, maybe its about location. I would eat here at this place again. My 3 kids appeared to like their food choices.

I ordered the Green Goddess Chicken Salad and it had a really weird metallic flavor to it! I will never get that again! My husband's chicken sandwich was better, but not amazing. I have heard such great things about this place, but we didn't have the best tasting food!

Campbell and downtown Sonoma chicken are really good. This Almaden location does not have the same standard. Some food is stale, smaller portion. Often our order is wrong. We live in Almaden but we stopped going here. If it had the same quality, I would be going here weekly on my way home from work.

  • Ted Y.

I went here with a large group of people and even put in a reservation; but the place wasn't packed anyways. The food isn't exemplary, but it isn't too bad either. For that there isn't much to write about or to signify a shining dish. Additionally, the price for the food was quite high and I was expecting a larger/better tasting portion. Also for our group, instead of giving a piece of bread with our plates we were given a slice of pizza. Not sure if the pizza was old or they ran out of bread. This is a place to experience once just to say I've been there.

This review is only based on the party we hosted at this location. I have never been to this location, so I can only base my review on the food served at the party. The logistics of putting a party at this location was very chill and easy. We dealt mostly with one of the owners of this franchise, and he was great! He made sure that our guests were happy and satisfied with the food. He was very hands on. We had the whole back area to ourselves and had the freedom to decorate to make the area look festive. We ordered tri tip, salmon, rotisserie chicken, green beans, apple walnut salad, roasted veggies, and cheese pizza for our guests. The food came out continuously. My only complaint is that besides the owner, the staff wasn't as attentive as some of the foods were a little slow at refilling. I was very sad that I didn't get to eat more rotisserie chicken, which was excellent, because it didn't come out in time when I had time. I had very limited time as a host to eat. (So that would be my only ding on this place and thus 4.5 stars.) Otherwise, the atmosphere was festive (the owner made sure that we all had fun). The food was awesome for buffet. Cost was reasonable. I would recommend this place for event hosting. We made a huge mess, but the staff cleaned it up really fast. The owner even allowed us to stay longer than our allotted time. What a guy! Oh, yah. I requested that the food not be so salty. Request granted!

I tend to come here out of convenience. I wouldn't say there's any particular items here that I just love but the food is decent, quick and inexpensive. I normally go to the Skyport location which I think has better food and service. The last time I came to this location my food was lukewarm and my veggies were a bit on the raw side. The bread pudding on the other hand came out warm, gooey and delicious! An added plus though is the 15% off club one discount!

I love Sonoma Chicken. Great price and decent food. I just dont like the Silver Creek and Capitol Expressway location (because of its decor and vibe). ANYWAYS, at this location, there is great happy hour. They have a back patio which is really nice. They also have live bands on certain nights. You can also book private parties out in the patio if you like. I personally like the Garlic Chicken Alfredo and the Skillet Chicken Carbonara. The Cobb Salad is great too and their sandwiches. It really is decent food for a cheap price.

I like the salads here, as well as the lime grilled chicken. The sandwiches are OK- sometimes I feel like what I'm eating is only slightly better than fast food quality, but it's depended on the day. Decent spot to grab a beer with friends, or have a casual meal with family, if you have kids. Overall: eh, yeah, i'll eat here, but no big deal. From what I recall, the campbell and downtown locations offer a livelier more comfortable setting

Ok, this was a really hard review to write because there is so much that's good but so much that's wrong with this place. The good: The food! It's awesome even if it is basically fast food. I've had several dishes here and they're all excellent. My favorite is the Chicken Parmagiana. Wow. Some of the best chicken I've ever had. The bad: - No sense of timing. The worst thing about this restaurant is that the menu has salads and appetizers, but everything comes out all at the same time. They don't seem to understand that people don't want a salad, appetizer, and entree all sitting in front of them getting cold at the same time. Nobody eats like that. The tiny tables aren't even big enough to fit all that food. - No wait staff. Why aren't there waiters here? If I'm paying $40 for dinner for two, then someone needs to serve it to me. I really don't like having to stand on line to order my food, then get my own drinks, silverware, napkins, and then make multiple trips from my table and back to get all the trays of food. Eating here is a lot of work and I don't go to a restaurant to do work. Maybe they think it's hip or quirky. I don't. I think it's stupid. - The prices. The prices are extremely high for a fast food restaurant with no waiters. You need to knock about 20% off the prices, across the board, or you need to have a wait staff serving your customers.

I actually love this place because their food quality and the level of service is consistent throughout my visits here. Employees are generally nice and efficient, which adds one more star :-) I've tried their Shrimp Avocado Salad, and Roast Chicken Walnut. They are both served in generous portion plus a piece of pizza. You can substitute cheese like I did, if you're not into blue cheese. I also tried their Skillet Chicken Carbonara; it's a must try at this venue :-)

Worst meal I think I have ever had. Sonoma chicken coup only has 3 chicken items on the menu. The chicken was greasy on the outside and completely dry on the inside. It had absolutely NO flavor. The veggies were greasy and under cooked. Not to mention my vegetables came 10 minutes after my chicken. The service was awful. I will never go back.

HORRIBLE food. It was Friday night and we were so hungry we didn't want to drive all the way to downtown Campbell. We thought the food should be similar to the Sonoma in Campbell since it's the same chain store. Wow, we were wrong! We ordered lemon chicken and baby back ribs. The lemon chicken looked like it was cook awhile ago and got reheated in the microwave. And the ribs were inedible. They basically broiled the meat and added some bbq sauce on top before serving. It was so chewy and hard that I thought I was eating bbq rubber. We both couldn't take more than a couple of bites before giving up on the meal. Worst part of all, we both ended up getting tummy ache on the drive home. Let's just say I will not be coming back here ever again!

Sonoma Chicken Coop is CRACKIN' on Friday nights. Live band, plenty of alcohol, and terrible dancers galore! Watching these rhythmically challenged middle-aged folk get their groove on is MUCH more fun than eating the food itself. I couldn't help the smile plastered on my face as one of the lovely inebriated patrons danced himself into a lamp. Har, har har!! As for the food, well, the name of the food and it's description is more tasty than the food itself. This is my grilled chicken? It looks more like a chicken nugget! Bland, bland, bland. Thanks, Chicken Coop, your live band and wonderfully drunk dancers made me happy. Not your food though. (Psst, I think you should work on that!)

What a let down! We ordered the rib eye steaks, one rare, one medium rare, one blackened, one garlic. They were really bad. Both were paper thin and well done, nothing blackened and nothing with garlic. The fries were soggy. Maybe chicken is their thing, but I won't be going back to find out.

I am giving this place no star for food. The only star I am giving is for the staff, which are respecting and helpful. The food is just plain horrible. This was our first time here and we did not look at reviews, just dropped in. Should've left looking at a restaurant main floor with just 2 tables occupied, but did not strike us. We ordered three dishes - Chicken Parmesan, Lemon Chicken with Rice, and Combo pizza. None of them was edible. Chicken was chewy and had to be spit out by three people on our table. I could've bet they put beef instead of sausage on the pizza. I asked two of the floor staff and they said that it is beef on first look - they did not know what I had ordered. Went to the front desk and they mentioned that this is how their sausage is - minced bits and pieces and not the chunks that you typically get on pizza. Anyway, it did not taste like sausage and I don't think it was. The staff was understanding enough to replace it with a veggie pizza. In summary - quite (quite) bad food - arguably the worst place we've eaten at.

This location is fairly new compared to the other locations. Oddly enough it's never that busy or packed, not that I've ever seen. It's pretty spacious and even has outdoor seating, which is clean and nice. Funny enough this building used to be a McDonalds, yeah surprise surprise, that's a pretty nice McDonalds location. The food here is pretty good, average-ish, nothing fabulous but good comfort-type of food. I usually get the 1/2 chicken with 2 sides and it's soo filling and the chicken is always yummy. Occasionally I've gotten other things like the pasta which is not so great or I've gotten the salad which is pretty large and filling. I hope this place doesn't go out of business or leave this location. It's nice to finally have a decent restaurant close by in the Almaden location.

Manager was horrible. Accused us of not picking up our food (which we did) and then hung up on us for no apparent reason. Eventually had to call the owner who seemed resigned to the fact that the manager was a problem. Food quality has always been so so, but we won't go back anymore.

Came to this restaurant because it looked nice enough and it was convenient. Boy, did I regret that. I know its not the best idea to order beef at a place with chicken in the name, but for $12 and being called "prime rib" sandwich I expected it couldn't be worse than fast food. Turns out I was wrong. This was without a doubt the worst sandwich I have ever had in my entire life. The "prime rib" tasted like beef jerky that was soaked in vinegar until it was soft enough to pass off as roast and the sauce was also appalling. This is coming from someone who can eat AND ENJOY food from Jack in the Box (point is, I have VERY low standards). If I pay over $10 for a sandwich in a sit down place with real plates, its better be as LEAST as appetizing as a room temperature sourdough jack. At this point I figured I would try my mom's and sister's dish. My sister ordered a salad with chicken. Again, for $10, I was shocked to find the chicken far below restaurant quality tasting rather boiled and as if it belonged in a pre-packed $5 to-go salad. My mom had the best plate of just grilled chicken, but that also was rather underwhelming, not disgusting like my prime rib sandwich or just bland like my sister's, just not worth $10 or worth coming back for. My advice: GO GET FAST FOOD INSTEAD

As you can tell by my profile, I don't really give 1 stars often. I try to write reviews to help people find places to eat rather than to hate on a restaurant. However, this location is worth a warning to others. Don't ever go there on a weekday. I think they just don't expect much business so they don't stock up properly. I live nearby and have been here enough times to really know that they are just consistently inconsistent. Their portions are randomly sized, even for the same side dish. A couple times the pesto pasta side to my chicken was literally 10 strands of spaghetti. Sometimes they say they run out of complimentary bread, or you get home and there isn't any complimentary "pizza" bread in the order. The flavor is inconsistent (basically ranging from almost edible, to completely bland) and the service is nonexistent. The cashier is usually nice but when you want to ask about why your order is taking so long, or why it tastes so bland, why the alfredo is so runny, or why it's cold, they just stare blankly at you and act as if you are not standing there asking them questions. My husband picked up a to go order once and he mentioned that another man complained of the lack of flavor on his food and the staff just stared at him like he was an alien from outer space. The man kept trying to get some indication that they felt bad about this and also asked if the manager was there so he could comment to him. The staff person just stood and blinked and said nothing, didn't turn or wince or anything. The man was so frustrated he just left. I think management doesn't know how to stock up properly and doesn't train their staff properly.

Went here for Easter lunch. They had Easter brunch. They served a lot of different food items on their menu. I ready liked all roasted chicken and salmon. They also had really good deserts warm chocolate sauce to dip with fruits and cookies, cakes, and cupcakes. My kids cleared their plates.

I went here today for the first time with my boyfriend & when I first got there, it seemed like a really homey place, a nice place. They had a live band going & it was pretty fun. The downfall was the food quality & the way it tastes. I ordered the sirloin steak with the steamed vegetables & mashed potatoes on the side. OMG, let me tell you. It was VERY depressing for me to eat. Yes, I was full after eating it but I felt like I wanted to pick my throat because I felt like I wasted money & calories! First, the vegetables were okay; they were steamed... Nothing could go wrong with that, but the mashed potatoes. Omg, what?!?! EW. It was DISGUSTING. The seasoning sucked, there was chunks of crap in every bite, my mouth tastes like I just brushed my teeth with a garlic. Ugh! Last but not least, the sirloin. Okay wtf? It had like this bitter yet watery gross taste to it. You know how when you have a piece of sirloin steak the juices are suppose to ooze out & taste good & you keep wanting to dip the steak back in the juice? Well this was NOT the case. I wanted to wipe the steak dry & throw some A1 sauce on there. SAD SAD SAD! For $12.99 it was a rip off! My boyfriend ordered the "Soup of the day" which was this corn soup with shrimp or something like that? Idk what it was called, but all I know is it def. had corn in it. The entire soup was like the sweet corn you get out from a can except with random spices. Idk what the spices were but it was not mixing well with the soup, they should've just left it sweet & from a can in my opinion. Also, the way the soup looked was not appetizing at all. My boyfriends' dog's poo looks better than that soup. *sigh* Overall I give it a 2 star, 1 for the live band & 1 just because it had a nice homey feeling. As for the food... HAHAHAHA they don't get ish. NEVER going back. EVER AGAIN!

Food was good this time around...but I think if your are going to have little kids, do not let them run around like it is their little playground. The atmosphere is yes family oriented, but it is not a fast food joint. It is a Friday night and there are three kids running around (assuming they are related) with chairs and being very loud.

Sonoma Chicken Coop is like an ex-girlfriend... it's a decent choice although not your first, you don't have to drop a ton of money to get your hands on a breast or thigh (chicken) but ultimately you are left yearning for something less fatty and more lean. wait, I think I finally answered my question as to why I have been getting dumped all these past years. uuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh, i'm so fat, and damn you Yelp for making me say it to all these people.

Blegh!! I got the Lime Grilled Chicken and it was just waaaaaaaay too much lime. The whole dish (including the green beans and herbed rice) were just way too sour! It wasn't even the lime-flavor-sour, it was the tastes-like-it's-gone-bad sour. Blegh blegh blegh!

I've been to the coop on many occasions. Sometimes just with a few friends and other times for large scale events. The chicken quality is among some of the best I've ever had (and I eat all different types of food). The chicken is always very moist (even the chicken breast) and tastes delicious with all the different types of sauces the Coop provides; BBQ and the red wine sauces are my favorites. Try the calamari. Lots of flavor and comes large portions. I usually order the rotisserie chicken because it's the best, but the salads are just as excellent. They are served in large portions, but the quality is never compromised. I love the chocolate fondue with fresh fruits, ice cream and baked goodies. Absolutely awesome. If you're planning an event and need to feed a lot of people affordably, this is the place to be. Especially during the Summer when you can have parties out on the patio. I've been to several charity events sponsored by Sonoma and have always had a great time when I'm there. Like others have said, the bar works well here because they pour generously, the bartenders are friendly and the bar is easy access both inside and outside. Go to the Chicken Coop for a healthy alternative to fast food. You won't be disappointed. The pricing is good, the employees are friendly and a meal there won't break the bank!

Went here with another family on Saturday afternoon for lunch bc we both purchased the Livingsocial coupon. Figured it had a big patio which would be great for the kids to run around while we ate. That was the only good part (well, that and the fries). We ordered: *2 kids hamburgers which came with green beans - Most of the meat was thrown away because the burgers were burnt and kids wouldn't eat most of it. Green beans weren't eaten because they were still fairly raw. * veggie risotto - decent portion and tasted pretty good according to my friend. It came with a slice of foccacia but looked like a slice of pizza to all of us. *veggie omlette which came with fries and a mimosa or beer - tasted ok, not great. Had better ommies at Denny's. Although, the fries were really yummy! The ommie had some zucchini and I think some green bell peppers. * prime rib sandwich - came with fries which were yummy but the sandwich was awful. The meat was really dry and the edges were burnt. My husband said it tasted like it was cooked the day before * watermelon and chicken salad - looked like lettuce, watermelon and some chicken thrown on top. Sad to say I have another Livingsocial voucher to use but maybe I'll get that risotto next time.

I went here for a wedding rehearsal dinner last Friday night. From what I can remember, this used to be a McDonalds. Thanks, Ronald, but I'll stick with the chicken. I ordered the BBQ Chicken Pizza...so good! Huge pieces of delicious chicken. The crust was okay, nothing special. Generous pour on my Pinot Grigio. Surprisingly good live music (can't remember his name but he played a Bob Marley song). Great outdoor seating. If I lived closer I'd hang out here. Bring one to the Tri-Valley! Livermore is like the little Napa, so maybe Pleasanton could be the little Sonoma.

Enjoy coming here for their Happy Hour and hanging out on the Patio. Domestic and Imported pints for $2.50. Recommend the Calamari. Nice portion and for $5 its a steal. Brian does a great job bartending. I also like their roasted chicken. Great BBQ sauce and the meat falls off the bone..

Did you know they do catering? Did you know they do weddings? Well, neither did I! I recently hired Sonoma in Almaden to cater my wedding after my husband who is super picky about food suggested I ask if they cater since he'll eat just about anything on their menu. Turns out they do! I cannot tell you in enough words how completely AWESOME David Fong and his team were at making my wedding dreams come true. Of course the food was amazing (doesn't everyone love Sonoma?) but David went out of his way and bent over backwards throwing things into the catering package at no cost and treated me like a celebrity. Ok, so just as a heads up I had a very small total wedding budget of $15,000 (I guess the average wedding in Santa Clara County is closer to $30,000) for my 100 person wedding and couldn't find a caterer for my event for less than $6,000. So why did I end up going with Sonoma? Because I got bar and wait staff for 7 hours, set up and tear down services, 7 appetizers (some passed, some stationary), 2 mains, 3 sides, coffee/tea service, chaffing dishes, unlimited beer/wine/well drinks, and glassware (Reidel people, I mean who does that?) for an amazingly low price! I don't want to say for how much because this man has a business to run (it was definitely less than $6k for 100 people), but I honestly couldn't find anything else nearly as affordable, and I'm a bargain hunter so trust me I looked. David and his team made miracles happen for me on my big day, and I would highly recommend any bride on a budget or frugal party planner to give him a call, like now!

Went to dinner with the family. Placed our order, waited about 20+ minutes to be called for our order. When i arrived at the counter not everything was ready. When they inquired where it was he stood near the kitchen. After waiting for about 10 minutes I asked how much longer as the rest of my families order was getting cold. He asked the cooks again, he says nothing to me. I ask for the manager, tell her what's going on and he throws the plate next to my tray and says " There, what else do you want?" He was very hostile towards me. Come to find out this guy is the owner. Eileen (the manager) came to my table apologized, came back out with a free desert and comped my entire meal. Eileen changed my horrendous experience. If it had not been for her I would have sworn that location off all together.

New Location Same Happy Menu with Orchids on Top I love the coop and it's already my go-to place for fast grub food in downtown San Jose, I'm thrilled to discover a new coop in my neighborhood. This location has a huge outdoor patio with fireplace, heat lamps and a cute outdoor full bar. Inside is the order window and a large seating area. I like the Roast Chicken Walnut Salad, Half Chicken with Sides, Coops Brew Beers or the Dark Chocolate Fondue with fruit and cookies. Check out the specials board when you walk in, but if you are familiar with their menu already you will be in your happy place when your food arrives at the speed of light with a orchid on top.

First of all, the chicken. I have no idea how the hell a restaurant with freakn chicken coop in its name can't cook a simple chicken. Every single chicken dish I've tried was super dry and bland. Lemon chicken, full chicken, chicken salad, etc. The only thing that was sort of edible was my friends chicken parmigiana, but thats only because it was deep fried and covered in marinara sauce. Bad food at a low price for me gets 2 stars. What brings it to 1 star is when I ordered the chicken salad, the cheese on it was old and sour. I gave it a few tries but felt so sick afterwards. I threw up in the parking lot after and wanted to say something to management but I was just too sick from the food to deal with them. I need to stop agreeing to come here when my friends want to.

Was having a nice dinner with my boyfriend and his parents. I had ordered their combination pizza which wasn't bad until I had bitten into something reallllyyy hard in the middle of one my slices. I had thought maybe it was a bone or something when it turned out being a screw. Who knows where it came from, but i'm skeptical of the food now......

Garlic Chicken Alfredo: a little on the bland side. The one we had at the Downtown location was much better. Shrimp and Avocado Salad: large shrimp and generous amount of it! Went here on a weekday for dinner and there was only one person working at the front so there were some delays in taking orders and getting food out.

Chicken alfredo pasta was fine. Nothing great but nothing to rave about. The quality is about CPK level. Maybe a dash lower, but the prices are cheaper and the food preparation is pretty quick. I would recommend if you live in the almaden area since selection of places to eat are few.

I'm a fan of Sonoma Chicken Coop in general but a group of 12 of us went to the Almaden Expy Coop on a Sunday afternoon and all of us had a good meal and a great time. It's a nice casual spot to get some good food and just relax and watch sports on the TV or just chat it up. The meals on the table varied and included: Jalapeno Focaccia Chicken sandwich, turkey sandwich, various pastas, salmon risotto, and a pizza or two. Everything came out quickly and was tasty in general. They normally have some good specials that rotate. That adds more variety to an already decent menu.

Been here a number of times since they first opened up. Food unfortunately isn't to die for.:( I've probably tried most of the pasta and sandwich type menu items and while they are filling, they aren't really all that pleasing to the palate. The food in general feels safe and a bit numb, don't expect a lot of taste. If you decide to come here, remember that it's somewhere inbetween a regular restaurant and a fast food joint. You order your food first and pick it up when it's ready. I actually first tried this place in downtown SJ, I feel that the quality of the food maybe better there than at this location.

This location is just dreadful. I love the greater San Jose area and go out of my way to support local businesses and chains. I have had a decent experience and both their downtown and their Campbell locations. This location, however, is consistently awful. It's not like me to return to a place after having two consecutive bad experiences.... But it's so close to home and there are items for my kid, so I gave it a final shot. This time, I said "Maybe If I try the daily special, it'll be fresher and better..." No luck. The Special was Ahi. They cooked the Ahi to the point of Cat Food consistency, but it wasn't even good enough to feed to a cat. It was overcooked by maybe 15 minutes, and the doneness was trying to be masked by a unhealthy amount of teryiaki sauce... There was so much teryiaki, I promise it was at least a month's worth of your sodium allowance. The rice that accompanied it was crunchy and flavorless. Also, my wife is nursing and my baby is lactose intolerant. So she orders the Risotto and asks if she could get it with "No Cheese". The Cashier says "Sure". It arrives smothered with Cheese. My wife takes it back. They can't make it without cheese because it's pre-packaged product. Just terrible! You're paying for TV Dinner quality. It's funny how the other locations differ from this one... But, after deciding my meal was inedible, I decided I'd fill up on beer. I walk over to the bar that seemed cool enough, the Sharks game was on, which was cool... And I get to the counter to learn "We're out of this Mexican Beer" and "The Sam Adams is out right now", or "We have Bud, Bud Light, Coors..." I can't even get a grown up beer?! Jesus... the General Manager here has lost his grip on this location and needs to be fired.

This review is solely for the cupcakes. Why would a vegetarian like myself, who has never tried chicken in her life, be writing a 5 star review for Sonoma Chicken Cupcakes? It's because the Red Velvet Cupcakes are the best I've ever had! My office ordered food from here today and I was shocked at how good the cupcakes here are. Everyone tries to do red velvet but few people really get it right. Seriously. These cupcakes beat Kara's, Crumbs, Susiecakes and Sprinkles. The flavor is perfect. They're super moist. They don't crumble. The frosting isn't overly sweet. If I wasn't such a polite person, I might have grabbed the entire tray of cupcakes and just made a run for it.

Went there on a saturday night, my first time there, My boyfriend and I ordered the prime rib sandwich, it was soooo GROSS the worst sandwich i ever had, my boyfriend's was full of grizzle and tasted old and stale and mine was cold, old and stale. My father's band played there that night and ordered the same sandwich and it was bad as well, not good for 3 times in one day. Will never go back.

Sonoma Chicken Downtown San Jose on San Pedro is terrible, so I tried the one in Downtown Campbell - Campbell isnt a bad location, however the food quality felt cheap and cafeteria. So I tried Almaden @ McAbee in South San Jose - again, the food was cheap and cafeteria. I remember when this place had good food! Now it is total production line hospital grade flavorless overcooked. I had the salmon on risotto - big mistake - my toilet will thank me for the fresh cleaning. Other than that, the service was great and very friendly at this location - way better service than the other locations. I wont return to Sonoma Chicken because of the low quality product.

If I could give it -star, I would. Came here a few weeks ago w/ fiancé. We had the 50% off total bill coupon. We ordered 2 entrees (about $10 each) and a drink. Bill came out to be almost $30, even after I gave her the coupon! I asked the cashier, and she said, "oh sorry, I forgot." Then she gave us back $2.50. And I asked why. She said the owner only authorized 50% off one dish, not entire bill. Even so, she should have given us back $5. Fiancé and I decided to cancel the order. The lady did not know how to do refund! We had to wait almost 30 min to get our refund back with no receipt! Oh did I mention that the whole time she was chewing gum?! It was annoying talking to her while she was chewing gum!

Ok again I am such a dork for believing the sticker on the door that states "People love us on Yelp" I can't trust that sticker anymore. Again, another time to catch a ballgame but do you remember the Almaden Feed & Fuel down the road. Now until I see the Legends Pizza place will I actually confirm the rebirth of the white trash sanctuary that is now Sonoma Chicken Coop but the clientel and the bartendar DAMN CLOSE to winning that highly coveted award. First off, Bartenders are not super human but they do need to come out from behind the bar. Secondly, when training the new bartendar you might want to actually train and not talk to your friends who are shall we say " ho's and dicks" Thirdly, do you want a tip because you need to work on that whole presentation to get a said tip. I sound harsh not as much as the married guys behind me talking about their trips to vegas...boys go out on the patio for that kind of talk because I don't think your wife would like to know you think she might be down for that if you went to vegas and met a stripper...JUST SAYIN! So let's get to the beer, First make sure its cold. and make sure the GLASS is cold too. It helps! because the next time I order a beer I will have to ask for a glass w/ ice in it. Next I order the fish fillet w/ veggies not hard but after the fish fillet is smothered in Ragu not so tasty. At $13 a plate make sure the patron can see the fish and putting pasta on it is just pathetic. So, Uribe falls flat on his face and that makes me celebrate so I ordered the banana sundae and instead get some kind of soup thing with a the winning top chef phyllo design on it and the smallest scoop of vanilla ice cream this would have been better in a sundae glass or anything than the bs that was passed myway. I am sure the bartendar has to train several people and the patrons well they can be dicks because you know that story about Las Vegas and using the company credit card..should stay in Las Vegas. I will review Legends and let you know if the Almaden feed and fuel has been reborn..but go to the campbell location their bar is WAY better

I usually like this restaurant, but I wasn't happy the other night. They close at 9:30pm on Sundays and three of us went to this location at 8:50pm. The guy who was sweeping the floor told us they are not serving anymore for the night because there's not enough cooks. WTF is that about?! Like I said, I usually like this place for their food, but that "(customer) service" rubbed me the wrong way! Peace out Almaden branch!!

Just came back from dinner here. I've eaten at this location and the downtown one quite a few times, but it's been awhile for this one. I'm a little torn between two and three stars, but I guess I'll be nice. I was really craving a salad, but the one I had my eye on (Roma's Rosemary Caesar) didn't have any chicken in it. I think chicken would've been a nice addition to it (after all, it's called the Chicken Coop), but I just decided to go for the Chicken, Cheddar & Avocado Sandwich. I only ate half. I wasn't too hungry to begin with, but the sandwich wasn't that great. I also gotta say that there definitely was a bit of a kid problem. One review pretty much said that they have a kid's menu, so that's what you should expect. I dunno, but kids shouldn't be running around my table playing tag. I definitely blame the parents, not the staff, though. I guess they get the third star since I've enjoyed the food from this chain in the past, and something about this location just seemed better than the last time I went here. I know I'll be back, whether it's this location or the one closer to my house.

A good casual place to get some rotisserie chickens. Besides those darn good chickens, they offer much more ranging from salads, sandwiches, soups, and a fully loaded meat/veggies/starches plate. Pros: from 3pm to 6pm you save an extra 10% or 20%. Customizable. Good service. Very roomy. Self serve to go boxes. Reasonable prices. They have about 4-5 daily specials and the food is presented in a case so you don't have to wonder what it actually looks like. Cons: This location on the slower side. If you don't tell them they will DRENCH all your food in oils or dressings. Overload! Try the Chicken and Beet Gorgonzola salad! So good! SEE PICS.

I came here for lunch before heading out for work. Luckily the place was almost empty as I heard this location gets packed full of high school kids when they get out. I found it nice to eat in peace in a pretty spacious dining room. It seems a bit disorganized but I can see when there's tons of people here for lunch or dinner you wouldn't want to run into someone carrying food. Anyways for lunch I ordered the special, Paella. It came out steaming hot and full of goodies. Sausages, mussels, clams, plenty of shrimp, arborio rice with saffron, and the aroma was pretty nice. I was pretty stuffed after my lunch and with a soda to go with it, I only spent $14, which isn't bad for Paella. Not the very best I've had but it was decent enough to enjoy and satisfy my craving. I'd come back if I was in the area and craving chicken too!, Thanks Sonoma.

Why all the hooplah? For years, I've been told to check out Sonoma Chicken. Supposedly, the chicken is great and you get to pick different styles of chicken, which were all apparently delicious. So, I recently checked them out. I was pretty disappointed. We ordered several different chicken varieties and some pastas. Everything came out cold. The chicken appeared to have been cooked hours before and was left sitting out in room temperature. The flavors were decent but nothing to go crazy about. The pastas all tasted like they were pre-made and shoved in the microwave to reheat. Now, the prices were decent and I liked the casual atmosphere. However, I think the Coop is more like a cafeteria than an actual restaurant. I gave them a second chance and went there again a few weeks later and got the same results. I'm thinking...if they probably nuke their pastas, why not at least nuke my chicken so it's at least heated when it's served to me?!?!?

I went to a big birthday party that was held at this location today and I thought everything ran very smoothly! The food came out nice and hot, and everything was cooked very well. I thought this place was much better than the one in Downtown San Jose. We ate their pizza, rotisserie chicken, salmon, green beans, and roasted veggies and everything was very tasty. I was actually quite surprised at how well they cooked their salmon because it was quite moist and juicy, and salmon usually doesn't come out that great when it's made in mass quantities. I'd probably say that the green beans could have a little bit more flavor because they were just steamed with nothing else. This location is much bigger than other locations I've been to, and the facility was very clean and had an open feeling. This is a great place to host larger parties.

Nice big place that just opened but the food is sub par and disappointing. I've tried Sonoma Chicken in downtown San Jose five years ago and that used to be pretty good. You order Aqui Grill style - order and pay at the counter, sit down, and then get your food when they call you. Fried calamari - 3 stars - pretty ok, meaty pieces with not too much batter. Roast chicken walnut salad ($8.99 for lunch) - 2.5 stars - The chicken was nothing special. You would expect great chicken if they are called Sonoma Chicken Coop. The salad, walnuts, and vinagrette were all forgettable. Prawn Spaghettini ($11.99) - 2 stars - prawns, sliced mushrooms & scallions in a spicy tomato wine broth. Not much flavor and felt like we were eating pasta from a soup base. It was just too wet. If I wanted soup, I would have ordered soup. Bottom line: Pass. Maybe they are still ramping up from the new opening so I sure hope for their sake that their food gets better.

I'm sorry but I don't like this place at all! My husband took me there for the first time about 5 years ago when we were dating, to the one in downtown SJ, and I seriously didn't know what all the hype was about and also why my husband (who I think has superb taste in food) liked this overpriced, bland, small portioned food! Plus they don't even bring it to your table! So fast forward 5 years, and my father-in-law eats only chicken and fish so guess where he wants to go? I'm up for it since I've never been to this one and I'm hopeful since I always believe in giving a place a second chance. Plus it seems relatively kid-friendly, from the outside at least. Never again! I don't know, but I just can't get the prices out of my mind. I feel they are totally ripping us off! I can understand if the food was excellent or at least better than average but come on, ten bucks for a half decent salad on plates that resemble the ones you get when you're eating dorm food? I seriously don't know how they stay in business. Sorry Sonoma Chicken, you're close by but I'm not stepping foot in there again.

This was the worst food I have had in a long time. The food I got was cold and the floor was dirty. The room was not well lit and over all it was a bad experience. After in got home Me, my brother, and my Mom sat on the toilet for an hour. If I were to compare the food to any where it would be McDonald's but at less McDonald's does not give you food poisoning.

We usually get takeout from Sonoma and by the time it gets home it's cold. Luckily we have an oven and a microwave (fancy, no?) and we can reheat it. Tonight we decided to try dining in for the first time. I have a few complaints. First, it's SO cold in there. Probably because the patio door kept opening. That leads to the second problem- the flies. There are a lot of flies. Third, and this leads back to my intro, the food was cold by the time it got to my table. Chicken fresh from the oven should not be cold. It wasn't ICE cold, but it wasn't hot. The plate, on the other hand, was VERY hot. The food is good though, so I think we'll just stick to takeout from now on.

If you want a plate of overly greasy chicken with a truckload of capers dumped on top and waxy green beans, go to this restaurant. We went for a fund-raiser for my daughter's school, and learned when we got there that there were TWO school fund raisers going on at the same time. The line to order food was practically out the door and it took a good half hour to get to the cash register. Then the person taking our order barely spoke English and had to review the order with me about 5 times. We've eaten in the SCC in downtown and in Campbell; both seem to have better food and management than this location.

I won't be back! I ordered my dinner with the red velvet cupcakes to go... I was with a group of friends, so we were all in a row ordering. They gave me my buzzer and sent me on my way. When I went to pick up my dinner/cupcakes, the counter server said they had sold out of the red velvet cupcakes... ME: Yeah, you gave them to my friend behind me, where are mine? HIM: We don't have any more, do you want carrot cake cupcakes? (now I have nothing against carrot cake, but I was in the mood for red velvet and had heard great things) ME: No, I wanted red velvet. HIM: (blankly staring at me like I am at fault...) Do you want cheesecake? ME: No, can I have my money back? (if I wanted cheesecake, I would have gone to the Factory down the road) HIM: (still looking at me like he doesn't know what to do) so I ask for the dessert menu and ask for the fondue. It was the most expensive dessert, I wasn't planning on eating dessert until later, so this was going to get shared. So when I went back to get my fondue (that I didn't really want), the counter lady server gets in my face because I don't have a buzzer and the fondues she has ready are not for me... I was up 5 minutes ago to have him get mine ready and he told me to come get it in 5 minutes. I am fuming because this isn't a relaxing dinner away from home. If I wanted to get up 10 times during my meal, I can stay at home and cook for my family, and get up that way, except that at home my kids are more than willing to help out! So they tell me come back in 5 more minutes. They finally actually brought it to my table and it was gross. I definitely won't be back.

Spacious sitting areas both indoors and outdoors make this place a tempting choice for a lazy Saturday brunch. They serve up a weekend brunch between 10 am and 2 pm. Had the coop's omelette which is loaded up with every meat under the sun. Omelettes come with potatoes and choice of toast. Like a total dork, I insisted on calling it the co-op omelette. I guess you pronounce it coop, like a chicken coop. As in Sonoma Chicken Coop. Duh? The guy at the counter looked at me quizzically, but after a few seconds had quietly translated my order in his head. After ordering, they give you a buzzer, and you go to pick up the food when it's ready. I liked how they had a selection of hot sauces to choose from as well as salad dressings. Some ranch dressing on the potatoes was something I probably wouldn't have asked for, but since it was out there... hey, why not? Food was only average. Perhaps in the past, it might have earned a 4 stars from me, but with places like Scramblz so close by as alternatives, I've got to give it only 3. I've been here a few other times for dinner usually, and each time the food satisfies but fails to impress. If I were to choose one thing of the menu to recommend, it'd be the dark chocolate fondue which is served with berries, bananas, cake, cookies, marshmallows and ice cream - all for under $8. Nice!

AWESOME. Great food at very reasonable prices. They are always changing their menu up, so somedays you can order BBQ chicken quesadillas and others you can order meatload or tilapia. Nice patio too for those sunny days. We will actually divert the 15 minutes off 101 when driving north just to stop here and have lunch. Miss this place.

*I came here on Mother's Day so I can't comment on the restaurant as it usually is food wise.* It is located in a large shopping center, plenty of parking and easy to find. The restaurant is quite large, lots of seating, It was clean, well maintained and the host, cashier were friendly and quick. It was Mother's Day so it was a buffet style. We came early so everything was fresh, hot, ready and neatly organized. From breakfast fare such as eggs, eggs benedict, pancakes, muffins to lunch fare like salads, meats, pastas, risottos - there was a fairly wide selection. But nothing was particularly great, not bad, just nothing I would get a second helping of. I understand it's a buffet, it just wasn't that great. Even the desserts were just ok. If this is a standard of the quality of food, I'd pass on coming again.

The food is ok... there's nothing on the menu that I can really rave about. My favorite dish is the skillet chicken carbonara although I think it's a little over salted. Chocolate fondue for dessert can be fun. I've never been impressed by their salads. With a name "Sonoma Chicken Coop" I would expect their rotisserie chicken to be good.. not so much. The restaurant itself is nice- spacious, clean, a full service bar, outdoor patio with occasional live music, self serve unlimited soft drinks, convenient location within Almaden. The price point for some the dishes is a bit too high for the quality that you get. This place is good for a casual dinner with friends or even to bring the kids. The wine and beer selection is pretty good. There's nothing on the menu that left me yearning to come back but I'll probably return anyway.

I've been here twice. The first time was about a year ago when it first opened. I'd hear a ton about the place so I was excited to try it. When we got there it was packed! A line out the door. After ordering I was really left wondering what all the fuss was about. The chicken dish was disappointing as was the size of the portion. Fast forward to last night. We had just finished my son's soccer practice and decided to try it again. It was really empty. Sign of the times? Anyway, I ordered the Apple salad and added a chicken breast to it. My wife ordered the prawn salad while the kids had a hamburger w/fruit side and Mac and Cheese with fruit. Kids eat free Monday - Thursday so although still $34 it was a pretty good deal for a decent. meal. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor and size of the portion. It was really tasty actually. My wife was happy with hers as well. So, I've had a change of heart and find it a 4 star. Especially on a weekday since the kids eat for free!

Expensive for the mediocre food they serve. Nothing special about this place. They should turn this into a good restaurant...or back to McDonald's.

I reluctantly returned to SCC to buy a chocolate milkshake for my quiet, sugar-loving companion AND to use up the gift card. The milkshake tasted pretty good, BUT waiting for the food after it was ordered was incredibly long....for a milkshake. The place wasn't crowded either. Maybe they had to milk the cow first...My other complaint is that the cashier asked if there was enough credit on the gift card to cover the milkshake. I told the cashier that there should be, but if there wasn't I'd be more than happy to supplement with cash. The cashier said that if there wasn't enough credit on the card for the item ordered, then the card would be rejected. What kind of system is that??

This really is a crap shoot! I've previously rated the downtown location and mentioned that of the 3 locations...this one is my least favorite. So why did we go here tonight, you may ask...? Simple...convenience. We live about 3 miles north of here off Almaden and we couldn't make up our minds where to go for dinner so "someone" suggested this place. Of course, my gut said no but my overworked, TGIF brain said "whatever!" Even when the line is long things move along pretty quickly (which you'll find at all locations) and the food comes up fast. The menu is the same as the other locations, as others have mentioned. The patio is really nice year round. Tonight I ordered my typical Chicken Carbonara aka Coronary because when I saw the special I had planned to order I noticed it was just rice and chicken and I wanted some veggies = namely green beans. Chris ordered the Spaghettini Chicken Pesto special. My Coronary was lacking. Tons of rice, a small portion of overcooked chicken, little bit o' sauce and...the kicker...no more than 10 strings of beans. Note that most of them were less than 1 inch in length. The Spaghettini was actually pretty tasty. I'd order that again. The saving grace of the night was the Chocolate Hockey Puck dessert. I've never had it before. It is 2 tiny round flourless chocolate cakes with chocolate mousse sandwiched in between. It is served with a dollop of ice cream, fudge sauce, whipped cream, and raspberry puree. I requested the puree on the side because I typically don't like raspberry-flavored anything and Chris doesn't like seeds. Shockingly...I tried the puree...and then Chris tried it and we both LOVED it. So much, in fact, that we were both eating spoonfuls of it and saying how awesome it was that we ordered it on the side because we got so much more of it. Seriously...SHOCKING! This dessert is really yummy and the puree is divine. I could do without the little blue curacao cream scoop they serve with it, but I'll still eat it if it's there...I'll just cover it in raspberry and fudge sauce.

My friend had a family party here, and it was $30 a person, which is TOTALLY not worth it! It included soup, pasta dish, piece of chicken, fondue dessert, and drink. The portions were small, and the food was bland. The people also did not accommodate my friend's party well. There wasn't enough seating, and they didn't even include everything he ordered; he had to almost yell at them to start getting everything ready. I'm not a real fan of Sonoma Chicken Coop in the first place, but this location especially stinks.

Went here for a few birthday parties and each time I came here, the food was EXCELLENT! There is a creamy farfalle pasta dish with sundried tomatoes, mushroom and chicken that is delicious, the kids and us kept going back for more! Their salads are also very fresh and tasty, my favorite was one with grapefruit and avocado slices on a bed of baby greens. This Sonoma has CUPCAKES occassionally that are awesome -- my favorite is the Red Velvet, moist cake with the perfect cream cheese frosting, it beats out Sprinkles and Kara's any day. Restaurant is clean and there is plenty of parking out front. I've been to parties outdoor and 1 indoor and both areas were so comfortable.

I've been to both of the other Sonoma Chicken Coops around here and don't recall having a bad experience... however what I do recall most is the chocolate fondue hehe... Four of us came over here the other night since we had a giftcard... we ordered an appetizer, four different dishes, and a dessert... the fondue of course! For the appetizer we got the artichokes with the garlic aioli... the artichokes were small and hardly had any meat.. that garlic sauce was soooooo good though! However, for $6.99 you better serve me something better than two halves of one meatless, gutted artichoke! I ordered the prawns portofino I think it was called, it was penne pasta with red sauce and prawns.... ok... I'm not a fan when you make a pasta dish or something with the prawns in sauce and then leave the tails on! You always lose points for that!! The dish was good, a lot smaller than I remember though... There was an order of Lime Chicken with rice and the leeky mashed potatoes... the rice had a spice to it and the mashed potatoes were good, not too much chicken though... and again, a small plate... My Mom ordered the tri tip steak which came smothered in bbq sauce and placed on top of the french fries... the steak had a lot of gristle and the sauce overpowered everything... My step-dad got the special which was chicken enchiladas, he drowned them in tapatio but scarfed them down with no further adieu... The dark chocolate fondue for dessert was good as always... a scoop of ice cream, pound cake squares, rice krispy treat squares, orange slices, strawberry slices, marshmallows, and a couple cookies in chocolatey fondue! mmmmmm =) The restaurant itself is really nice, never knew you could turn a McDonald's into something that nice! Outside on the "patio" area there was a live band and a lil fire... but we opted to eat inside... It was expensive.. which was pretty comical due to their "inexpensive excellence" on the menu... we won't be going back, unless it's just for dessert!

Things have degraded rapidly. Use to be a great place to take the kids but the quality has fallen off a cliff recently. Use to go 4 - 5 times a month. Lost me as a customer.

I used to love the coop, but lately the portions have gotten smaller and the quaility has gone downhill. The prices seem to have gone up as well, so not a good experience. Bring back the Coop--the way it used to be.

I've only been been to the one on almaden this one time and it was good! There was a live band playing outside so that's where i sat. I had the 1/2 chicken and it was really good! It came with mashed potatos and a dip for the chicken. I think they make their own gravy for the mashed potatoes becaues it was definately unique. all was good! Cooked perfectly! The meal aslo came with a slice of pizza! Next time Ima try that cause it was tasty! I'm not sure if it was a special day and that's why they had the band, but it made dinner that much better! The lady who took the order was slightly rude, she could have been having a bad day, but come on, I was all smiles and she had to go and be rude acting like she didnt hear my order the first two times I said it. (I'm not a quiet person). Other than that the place had a good vibe and I enjoyed my meal. Definately going back!

I feel guilty giving out so few stars, but I guess I expected more. The restaurant is cafeteria-style, where a line is formed to order, and a spot off to the side is where orders are picked up. I've been to this location twice and both times, the food was decent, but nothing special...especially not for the prices. The restaurant feels a bit cluttered with tables and chairs moved haphazardly to accommodate the patrons. Last time I came, I had a barbecue chicken quesadilla for $10. The chicken was good, although for a quesadilla, I expected more cheese. It was definitely a fork-and-knife required meal, and the chicken practically fell out of the tortilla due to the lack of cheese. There was a side of salsa and a side of guacamole. Although each thing tasted decent on their own, as a whole the flavors seemed incompatible. Other notes: Parking can be difficult to find during busy hours. The rotisserie chicken is tasty - very moist. I was fortunate to try it when the restaurant just opened and they had a promotional offer - a whole chicken for $3.50! I haven't had it since, but despite its deliciousness, I'm not sure if it'd be worth the price.

I come to Sonoma about once a month with friends or my husband. I like the predictability of the quality of food. They are usually spot on, I normally order a salad or the lemon caper chicken. I like the layout, the place is always clean and it's affordable.

We absolutely LOVE this place. Where else can you get a great meal in a nice atmosphere for decent prices with kids eat free Monday through Thursday? We come every week and we get something new almost every time. The staff is very friendly and the service is quick. Special orders are no problem. I substitute all the time. The music on Thursdays and Saturdays is very entertaining on the outdoor patio - for adults and kids. I really love this place. Fresh food - good prices - great selection of entrees. YUM!

I used to be tenaciously devoted to Sonoma ..but it's obvious the original chef/recipes are not! The food is NOT THE SAME..so sad cause now I wont waste calories on the beloved Chicken Skillet Cabonara. It is basically fat on a plate.... pan fried in bacon grease and comes with crisp green beans on white rice.

Horrible. Just horrible. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy. (Well...) I got an order of Buffalo Wings ($10.99?! You have to be kidding me) which to put in simple terms, were like chewing on a warm eraser. The chicken was so dry it was painful. Even the green onion sprinkled on top was completely old and tried out! The "hot" sauce was weaker than the sauce Little Ceasers puts on their wings, and tasted a little too similar to be considered original. Last and most painfully, the chicken wings were so tiny they wouldn't pass ANYONE's standards for normal portions, and I'm a smaller guy so I don't even eat that much. Not only that, but what's with the service here? I'm paying 10.99 for them too cook something, leave it on a counter for me to pickup? They don't even put out silverware for you to use. The state of the floor was shameful, not to mention how dirty it was. It was completely covered in food and paper, it looked like it had not been cleaned in a while. Will not be coming back, ever.

omgahhhhhhh the rotisserie chicken with lemon vinaigrette + leeky mashes potatoes.. i've had a fair share of dishes here but that one is probably one of my absolute faves! wish there was one here in San Diego. I know all of my college friends would love it here! So much variety, sure to meet every pallette what else is good.. chocolate fondue! MMMM the garlic alfredo with the focaccia bread!!!!!!!!!!! this location is cool too. the downtown one is kinda hot during the summer-=[ turn on your AC jerks.

My wife and I just went here for the first time, and we were extremely disappointed. My wife ordered a special that included a chicken quarter, a quarter rack of pork (or "baby back," as everyone insists on calling them) ribs, and french fries. Well, the french fries were delicious...one-third of them were, anyway. The other two-thirds were served underneath the pork & chicken, and were thus too soggy to be appetizing. The only edible ones were the ones that managed to creep out the sides. The chicken was "a little under-done," "stringy," "bland," and "not very good." But at least she was able to eat that. The pork ribs were hard as a rock (I was actually quite surprised to notice how much effort my wife had to put into cutting one of the ribs off the main rack), and according to her, totally inedible. Pork ribs are her second favourite food, after lobster, so for her to leave uneaten ribs on her plate was highly unusual. She took two bites off one rib. I ordered a very simple item that didn't give them much of an opportunity to showcase their skills ie., a pepperoni pizza. It was OK, but very ordinary and forgettable, and managed to be both thin crust and doughy at the same time (I'm pretty sure the only way that is possible is for the crust to be under-cooked). The place was so loud (on a very early Sunday afternoon), that it was almost impossible to have a conversation. I also really didn't care for the initial lay-out, in that you enter the restaurant, and you have no idea what to do. My wife and I literally waited several minutes before we realized we were waiting to be seated by someone who didn't exist. Around a corner or two, about 35 feet away, we noticed people ordering their food, so inferred we were expected to read the menus by the entrance, and then proceed to order our food like the rest of the herd. I'm no snob, but when I go to a restaurant, I expect service. Maybe self-service is something the Yuppies and/or the Stuff White People Like (sub)urban hipsters are into now, so they can have an Authentic Blue Collar Tourist Experience or whatnot, but as someone who is an actual member of that working class (which will forever remain an exotic mystery to the class of people one gathers that the Sonoma Chicken Coop owners hopes it will appeal to), I can only say that when I pay good money to dine out, I expect to have a waiter or waitress take my order (yes, from my table), bring me my drinks, etc. Perhaps being located in prosperous Almaden, they get a substantial body of customers who find physical inconvenience, and doing for one's self, such a novelty that it constitutes an enhancement of the dining experience. Personally, I don't like having to go to the counter to order, then having to fetch my own drinks, then having to return to the counter in order to pick up our meals, and then having to return to the counter yet again to pick up our desserts. It felt like making multiple trips between my living room and kitchen; that's not an experience I'm accustomed to paying for. The Sonoma Chicken Coop is kind of like the Chuck Reed of restaurants, by which I mean it was pre-selected for success prior to your ever having heard of it. The first time I ever read about Chuck Reed in the Mercury News, I knew he was going to be Mayor some day; you could just discern that the editorial board of the Mercury News had already chosen him for bigger & better things. The Sonoma Chicken Coop is much the same ie., when I first read a review of their Campbell location, some years ago, I could tell that the local media had decided this was going to become one of those spots that gets very trendy among people above a certain age, and thus achieves a great measure of success, within the business context. I suppose that when you're a restaurant which the local media has pre-selected for guaranteed financial success, one can't really blame you for not bothering to try very hard at the whole culinary thing. And it sure doesn't seem like they do anymore. Its a glorified fast-food joint, with restaurant prices. And frankly, I'd rather eat at Arby's.

Yay!!!! A Sonoma Coop near my house!!! No longer do I have to pay for parking off of San Pedro Square, nor do I have to be cramped while I eat at the dinner table inside of Sonoma in Downtown SJ. I love this new spot that I've just recently discovered (yesterday). It's VERY spacious, has an outdoor bar (great for summer happy hour days), a big fireplace in the outdoor patio, and they also have live bands playing. COOL! As said, Sonoma offers GREAT food at inexpensive prices. My all time favorite has to be their Chicken Cabanara; although, yesterday, I ordered their Rotissirie Chicken w/ capers and lemon vinegarette, along w/ green string beans. It was very pleasant. My all time favorite desserts there are their fondue and tiramisu. Great for people who have a sweet tooth like myself... Service was great. They were quick w/ our orders, and they also handed over our to-go orders to our table which was very nice. I can't wait to come back here again! =)

I'm so disappointed in this place. I waited all summer for this to open too. Finally had a chance to eat here the other night. I was not impressed. I haven't been to any of the others so I had no frame of reference except I had heard pretty good things. I thought the meals were overpriced for the value. My Chicken Fettucine Alfredo was a decent size plate of food but nothing to write home about. The fettucine was good, and chicken plentiful, but the dish was watery and uninspired and just tasted like all of the elements were just thrown together. Bleh. The dinner salads were large but had too many chopped tomatoes, the lettuce was getting brown and for $37 for the two of us - well, the meal was just not that great. I thought the restaurant itself was nicely decorated for the holidays, but it was cold in there (I never could warm up), the noise din was pretty high, and the tables and chairs were not comfy nor inviting. Seemed like there were a lot of employees standing around not knowing exactly what to do. I don't know. I would probably not go back again except that this location does have one of the nicest outdoor patios around. On a nice day, it would be wonderful to eat out there with a salad or sandwich, or perhaps come back just for dessert and try the chocolate fondue. That looked pretty good! I doubt I will make this one of my usual haunts, but I'll give them another try (they are newly opened) when I can eat outside and see if that helps to improve my overall impression of Sonoma Chicken Coop. Until then, 2 stars.

I like the idea of this place: casual, good food, healthy. The first time I cam here, I had the baked artichoke appetizer, lime grilled chicken and the chocolate fondue. All of these were great!! I highly recommend the lime grilled chicken and the fondue. The second time I came I had the Skillet Chicken Carbonara- it was smothered with cream so thick and gooey that I really could not stand eating it. I felt like I was just eating lard....ugh! How unappetizing. I didn't even finish half of that dish. The pizza bread filled me up instead. STAY AWAY from the chicken carbonara unless you actually like extremely fatty heart attack inducing foods!! Ahhh! I need to cleanse my arteries. The other items on the menu look much better, so I will just chalk this up to bad ordering on my part.

We had a wedding shower there today. Eileen was extremely helpful with the planning as well as attending to our needs during the event. The food was delish! The tropical chicken salad and ribs were over the top! I would absolutely recommend the Almaden Chicken Coop for a get together of any kind!

I got takeout after work one night here. Rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes, bread. The food was decent, but nothing exceptional. The concept of the place was appealing to me, but I wasn't overly impressed after my first visit. I would be willing to try again, maybe a dining-in experience would be better. It was fairly crowded so there must be something drawing a great crowd.

This place was horrible. We went on a Saturday afternoon and was hoping to have the same quality of food that the Campbell Coop serves. Boy was I ever wrong!! The food was sub par (to put it nicely). My daughter ordered the prime rib sandwich which I thought would have a nice piece of meat. It was all fatty meat and the bread was awful. There was no garnish on any of the plates and the display was just as horrible as the food. I had the Portabello Mushroom sandwich which was still raw and served on a disgusting plain hamburger type bun. Once again, no garnish and the shoe string fries looked like they came out of a bag! It looks like the cook just threw the food on the plate taking zero effort or pride in the food he serves!!! I took the plates up to the counter and all they offered was another plate. No thank you. I do no EVER recommend this restaurant located in Almaden. BUT I DO recommend the Campbell restaurant.

AFFORDABLE is the word that comes to mind when i eat here. My co-workers treated me out to Sonoma Chicken Coop just this past weekend and we came to this location. We came on a Friday since my birthday fell on a Sunday. Boy, it was PACKED! they have a live band i guess every Friday? It was hard to find a table to sit all of us but the food is good. I love the LIME GRILLED CHICKEN =) I always get that. Food is reasonably priced and i didn't mind it being OVER packed and loud. I was with people who I considered my second family to celebrate my birthday and that's all that mattered =) If you check it out, definitely try the Lime Grilled Chicken.!

A bit over priced and practically dead every time I come here. I've had breakfast, lunch, and dinner here and I'm actually kinda sad that McDonalds was replaced :( . There is seating on the inside and outside but usually we sit on the inside. You pretty much order at the counter and you pick it up yourself. The last time I went I got a chicken pasta for about $11. It was good but something I could have made myself.

I have been a customer and the Campbell location and was excited once they opened one closer to home. My friend and I went on a friday night. Parking was difficult to find, I had to circle around like 3 times (as I was thinking to myself " this is worse than mall parking during the Holiday's" ) before I finally found a spot. I immediately noticed the large number of children running everywhere. Also, how loud it was. My friend commented that it's like "Almaden's Cafeteria". It was nice to sit in the outside area, they had live music which helped to cover up the screaming children. I dont recommend to go to this location. Maybe for lunch would be a different feel or crowd. I ordered the salmon Risotto although the risotto was a little too cheesy for my taste, the salmon on the other hand was delicious. My friend ordered the half chicken which he said was pretty tasty.

I love the Coop in Campbell but it is just too noisy here. I get a headache with all the noise bouncing off the walls and floor. Very overrun with loud, noisy kids which I generally don't mind so much but here it is really a problem. I get the chicken parmagian (SP?) with the pesto side and the bread and it is pretty good but the prices have just gone through the roof here and I just can't justify paying big bucks for take out food. This spot has already lost California Cafe, McDonalds and if these guys don't make some changes, they may blow what seems to be a good thing. Almaden people are spoiled and talk so if this place develops a bad rep, good bye. I was really expecting to come here a lot but once every two or three months are about all I can handle. Too bad, I was expecting better .....

This is probably the only place I'd rate a 2 and to this day still frequent. The location is good and the food is good as well. It was surprising when I found out they no longer brew their own beer. And the drink prices here are a little expensive. But that's not what earns a whopping 2 star. This place isn't managed well at all. They have a sign that says "kids eat free", which is full of caveats. If you have 3 kids and there are only 2 parents, you're out of luck. Also, they don't honor this for take out orders. Even extremely large take out orders (I'm talking dinners for 7+ adults). Oh well, the bbq sauce is good and most dinners come w/ a mini slice o pizza. That's enough to keep us coming back every so often. It's too bad, because we'd come more often if the joint were run by people who care about their customers.

Ok, so SCC is better than Mickey D's that was here and it's better than nothing...but it still isn't that good. I think a higher end steak house would be a good fit for Almaden. Anyhow, back to the review. SCC is really nothing more than fast comfort food. It's not bad. It's just not good. If you want something (fairly) fast, and reasonably tasty, by all means try SCC. Just don't go in there expecting anything spectacular. Prices are on the high side. Four of us ate there and it was $56, thank goodness there was no waiter to tip. That's another thing. The layout is kinda unique in that you go in, wait in line, order at a counter, get a pager, and when the pager goes off, go get your food. Now if that doesn't sound like fast food, what does?! I know this is purely subjective, but I really didn't like the salad...at all. Try the chicken carbonara, it's pretty good. Dessert's not bad. I've given this place several visits and I'm probably done with it. The novelty of a new restaurant in Almaden will wear off, the place will close, and we'll go through the cycle again...

So I'm okay with the whole Sonoma Chicken Coop idea. I never was really a fan of the whole cafeteria style dining and quantity over quality mentality, but hey some people are. Granted its a good place to get cheap, quick fast food but don't expect anything else. Previously I've gone to the downtown location and it was basically ok, I enjoyed the outdoor seating at night, and thats about it. Buttt recently I visited this new location and I hated it. I literally felt like I was at a ski lodge or something. The decor inside was awful. My food was absolutely disgusting and I feel sick even thinking of it now. The tables were sticky and dirty and the carpet was very dirty, and it just opened..wtf... This sounds so harsh, but I really did not like this place at all.....

I am so disappointed in this new location. My husband and I went last night after waiting forever to support this location. I think we will take the drive to Campbell till this location get their act together. Food Lime Grilled Chicken - (From the menu) Boneless skinless breasts grilled with marinade of crushed limes, roasted chile powder & cilantro; herbed rice & roasted garlic puree. Our experience: The chicken was under cooked but the flavor was wonderful (we could not eat it all due to being under cooked). Mash potatoes are always good, rice was soso. Grilled Salmon Risotto - (From the menu) Fresh king salmon fillet herb grilled & served over lemon vegetable risotto Our experience: The salmon was over cooked and the top was seared (I hate seared anything and if the menu stated this I would not have ordered). The Risotto, that is always wonderful at the other locations, was a sloppy mess. Little risotto and lots of veggies. Chocolate Hockey Puck - (no menu description) Our experience: Wonderful! WONDERFUL!! WONDERFUL!!! Can the pastry chef cook all the other food ....please?? Staff - Cashiers were nice and the guys calling the orders were great. The guys wondering the floor picking up the tables looked very lost. They could do a little more interacting with the guests.

We've come to the Almaden location a few times and have been to the Campbell location a few more. In my opinion, the quality has fallen with each recent visit and today reached a low that will likely mean this is my last visit. My son's noodles were drowning in butter. A little butter is fine, but this was ridiculous. Two of our meals had a hair in them and the one meal we had replaced came back totally overcooked. Adding to all of this was the annoying employee who lurked around out table for almost the entire meal with a very smelly towel in his hand. I'm confident that we won't be eating here anymore.

Came to the Coop the other night for more of their Thai Chicken Curry, one of the specials they offer. Delish! At the counter I couldn't help but notice the dessert bar featuring yummy looking cupcakes and cookies. They were offering red velvet, chocolate, and vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese or vanilla frosting. I ordered the red velvet with cream cheese. It was OUT OF THIS WORLD tasty. Very fresh and light. The frosting was creamy and a perfect compliment to the red velvet. My husband ordered the chocolate chip cookie (of course I had a few nibbles!). It was a big, buttery, chewy cookie with chocolate chunks. Just the way I like em! The owner said the cupcakes and cookies are HOMEMADE in house by his wife. I'll definitely be back! Can't wait to try the other cupcake varieties and have another cookie. I can't get enough!

there's a really great restaurant in southern CA called "The Chicken Coop" so when I moved up here I thought I'd give this place a try. Big Mistake! Probably the most disgusting food I've ever overpaid for in my life. The only redeeming quality is that the restaurant environment itself is cute

I have been waiting what seemed years for the old Almaden McDonald's (in my own backyard) to be reborn into Sonoma Chicken Coop. They did a very, very nice job on the renovation, however, it's reflected in the prices. Finally opening day and it's a miss. The stand by favorite BBQ Chicken Pizza once $8.99 is now $12.99, ouch. Also I am disappointed with my take out order because when I got home our salads were mush. At the Campbell location, EVERY TIME we ordered salads to go, they put the dressing on the side. HELLO!!??!! Even at CPK, they ALWAYS put the dressing on the side! Who tosses the salad for a TAKE OUT ORDER?! I mean must I ask them not to? I think it's assumed leave the lettuce alone just put the dressing on the side please. Even though this might have been their opening day and they are working out the "bugs," the salad issue is really not acceptable. I mean how many locations do they have & how many team leads and managers did they pull in to the Almaden location - several I'm sure. Lastly, no take out menus available. What?... Whatever... Overall, I'm left wondering what is happening at SCC, used to be a solid 4 or 5 just on value. Hmmm, perhaps not anymore.

My first time there and I kinda liked it. The prices weren't too shabby and the portions were good. All the food had good flavor and thats all I really need. Not bad and will try again.

I ordered the Fisherman's Net and was expecting an assortment of fresh seafood. My plate was about 4 oz of pasta floating in melted butter with three blown out musscles and two clams, one which had not opened. It's a no on the repeat customer.

Ohh, this use to be a great place to eat. Now I fear the seafood, I've been served one to many dreadfully smelling prawn salads, salmon sandwiches & specials that are not so special! My husband won't eat the sausage in the sausage/meat ball combo spaghetti. It is tragic, it was a great place to go when they first opened and continued to go downhill despite several "manager" changesl....so sad! :-( i hope they catch a clue, or buy one!

Good place. Excellent food, and the rock shrimp bisque was to die for! I originally tried the location in campbell, but realized that I'd have to *fight* for a table there. Came down here instead (about a 10 - 15 minute drive listening to my GPS) and really enjoyed it. In the campbell location, I would have had to *fight* to get a table or would have ended up with my food coming ready and nowhere to eat it. Here, we ordered our food and casually chose a table and waited for the food to come ready. If we'd gone there a few days earlier, we'd have taken advantage of the nice weather and eaten at the outside (patio) tables --- they have lots. Unfortunately, when we went it was a rainy night, but the inside was pleasant as well --- albeit a bit noisy.

I had been going to this restaurant every month with a group of ladies for the past school year, so when a Living Social Deal came out for this exact one, I bought it, and so did a friend of mine. We went there for our March lunch and were told by the gal at the order counter that we culd not use it because it was not a valid coupon. She accused us of fabricating the printout. We asked to speak to the manager and she would not put us in touch with him, nor would she tell us how or when we could reach him. After several minutes of arguing with her, she kept asking us what we wanted to order, totally not getting the fact that we had no intention of eating there at this point. We reminded her that we eat there every month and were good customers of theirs, but she would not relent. She was very rude, and to top it off, she has a huge mane of hair, that she does not pull back or secure in any way. She not only covers the register, but also moves the food from the plating area to the counter for pick up, and it has always bothered me that she performed this job without her hair being secured back. All that being said, the food is good and the atmosphere is pleasant, but I will jsut not be going back there anytime soon..................Living Social gave me a refund BTW.

We went to the Almaden Location Sunday 11/23/14 at 11:30 a.m. for a lunch before the football games. One member of the party ordered the Flagship Roost-tisserie 'Chicken. He paid and was given a signaling device to alert him when his order was ready. About 10 minutes later the device went off, and he returned to the counter thinking he would be picking up his meal. Instead he was told that the cashier made a mistake and should have told him that the Roostisserie Chicken is not available until after 1PM. No mention on the menu. He asked if it was just today, or just on Sunday, or every day? He was told every day, as they don't start cooking chickens until they open..... Guess they should change their name to Sonoma Chicken After One PM He ordered Calamari instead, and returned to the table with his signaling device. After almost 20 minutes, he went to the counter to inquire about his food, as the signaling device had not gone off. Guess what, his food had been sitting there for some time, and was only warm when he got to the table. The other person in my party ordered the Grilled Portabello Sandwich that according to the menue was to be prepared with Red Peppers (plural) balsamic dressing and Feta Cheese on a specialty bun.. Well the sandwich had one small Pepper (singular) and a very small amount of Feta Cheese. The "bun" it was served on looked like a very small hamburger bun. I was the only one who actually got what I ordered. Probably was because I only ordered a soft drink, and served it myself. Watchng the person cleaning tables was also fun. He was good at wiping down each table, but everything that dropped on the chairs, was left for the next lucky person to sit on. Then I watched him go to the self serve drink machine....watched him uncrew each nozzle, and take new ones out of a bag, and screw them back in...all without the benefit of gloves. So if you want 1/2 chicken, don't go there for lunch. If you want a clean seat, don't go at all. If you don't want to take a chance that the busboy had clean hands before handling the drink dispenser, don't have anything to drink... Come to think of it...JUST DONT GO

I came here on a Sunday afternoon, after a long hike at one of the parks nearby. I was famished from the hike, and although I had never eaten at this particular Sonoma Chicken Coop location before, it seemed to be one of the first restaurants that I reached that was obviously open, so I went in for a late lunch. Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed two things. First was the long line to the order-taking counter, which was moving in a very slow, DMV-esque manner, unaided by a full menu board, the ready availability of menus, or extra order-takers. Second was the restaurant's horrible acoustics, which seemed to magnify every conversation there to a dull roar. If I were susceptible to migraines, I would have developed one, especially since half of the clientele there were young families with toddlers who had decided that now was just the perfect time to test out their lung power. The line crawled forward, a little bit at a time, as each customer reaching the front counter, fumbled with the pile of menus there, decided what they wanted, and placed their order. After about ten minutes, it was my turn to go through this exercise, and eventually, I ordered their quarter white-meat rotisseries chicken with the lime-and-capers vinaigrette, as well as their "leeky mashed potatoes," which I hoped would taste better than it sounded. They handed me my receipt with the order number on it, as well as a buzzer to let me know when my order was done. I then found an empty table and began to read the newspaper that I had brought with me into the restaurant. It was a good thing that I brought that newspaper, because I waited....and waited....and waited.....and waited......and waited.....and still no buzzer and no food. As the hunger pangs became more intense, and I began to wonder if I would die of starvation on the spot, I went up to the order pick-up counter a few times, but was stymied by other customers complaining of their distinct lack of anything resembling food. After about ONE WHOLE FREAKING HOUR of this, I was finally able to reach the order pick-up counter and somehow get the attention of one of the restaurant's kitchen staff - no small feat, as they all seemed quite busy and quite stressed out. "It's been an HOUR," I complained. "Have you even BEGUN to work on my order yet?" "I apologize," the staff guy said, "We just got in a big catering order at the same time a large crowd came in ---" I interrupted him. "Have you BEGUN to work on my order yet?" I wasn't interested in the excuses, I just wanted my money back so I could get the hell out of there. "What order is it?" he asked. "Thirty," I said, showing him my receipt. Someone else in the kitchen got out and began helping the staff guy look for my order, and eventually, they found it, ready to go, on one of the countertops. "There you go," the staff guy said triumphantly, but I took the tray containing my order back to my table without even responding to him. They could have offered up a free dessert or a coupon to take the sting off such poor service, but they had such poor customer service skills that they never bothered. So, was the food worth such a horribly long wait? I can sum up the answer to that question in a single word: NO! The chicken was overbrined, so that its meat had begun to turn into a mushy pulp. The lime-and-capers vinaigrette had barely any lime flavor to it at all. And the mashed potatoes had been doused in a brown sauce that had a bit of a chemical after-taste to it. The mashed potatoes had also been sprinkled with leek greens that had been over-fried, so that they now attained this strange, plasticky texture. This may not have been the absolute worst meal that I have ever had, but it certainly wasn't worth even a five-minute wait. Long lines, horrible acoustics, mediocre food, and a staff with all the customer service skills of a dyspeptic orc: what's not to hate? Ultimately, I blame the manager of this restaurant for allowing such horrible experiences to happen. Whoever is running this restaurant is a flaming idiot, whose incompetence is so breathtakingly massive that it can be seen from outer space. My message to this manager is rather blunt: Get out of the restaurant business now, as you are no good at it. Get out of it now, before you find yourself locked in a small room, getting beaten up by all of your highly pissed-off customers. Unfortunately for you, there's now nothing you can do to improve my 1/5 star rating of the wretched establishment that you created, as I never plan to eat there again.

Never eating here again! I'm a loyal Coop customer. I love the service and quality if the downtown SJ and Skyport Coop but the Almaden location is horrible. The food is blah and today's topper was the dead cockroach in the bottom of my chicken walnut salad. DISGUSTING!

Not impressed! Went here to meet up w some family at the end of the happy hour. We ordered several appetizers. Calamari, hot wings and goat cheese platter. The food we received was cool, as if it had been sitting for 10 minutes on the counter before our waiter brought it over to us. No wonder it took so long after we ordered it to finally get our food. The Calamari plate was about half fried crumb batter bits. Like they just emptied the bag on the plate and served it like that with out a care in the world. Really, NOT IMPRESSED! I'm not going out of my way to come back here again. I'll go someplace else w better service and better food quality.

Worst place. The bathroom was dirty, out of Toilet paper, one sink in the men's room was missing a handle. We ordered salads. The lettuce was wilted and old. We were starving so we picked off the chicken and ate it. We brought up to complain and the manager argued with us. It's not the money, it's the point of customer service. If someone complains you do something about it.

I'm a big fan of Sonoma Chicken Coop but this location is nowhere near as good as the rest. It's poorly managed and the food is hit or miss. I've had really good meals here and others that were so bad that I took them back and ordered something else. Don't order the risotto! I generally like the lime grilled chicken and its usually decent at this location but I'm not a fan of the thicker string beans. The only reason I go to this location is convenience since it's close to my house. The other locations are consistently better. It's sad because it is in such a great location!

I've been to Sonoma Chicken Coop several times, this was by far the worst experience I've had there. Overall, the food was terrible. I spent $13 for a steak fajita salad that was absolutely bland on all levels. The steak was rubbery, the onions and peppers had no flavor. The beans seemed as if they were dumped out of a can. It was so odd to be eating something that lacked so much in flavor. The only thing I ate was the focaccia bread that came on the side, but even that fell flat. Unfortunately the eating options in Almaden are limited, but you won't catch me going back there.

I normally do not write reviews however the Management was rude to my wife. We were given the other tables order (which was cold) and 30 minutes late. My wife went to complain and the management derided her and made racial slurs. She was humilitated in front of other customers. It was one of the worst expierences my wife and I ever had at a restaurant. Freindly thay are not! We never did get the right order. Will never go back!

Just went there for lunch. The apple harvest salad was ok until one of my friends went to pick up their food and saw a cockroach crawl across the cutting board and made a comment. Their response "tell me about it." The sandwiches were bland and dried out meat. I've been to the other locations and have been happy with the food and experience but I'd avoid this one of you can.

The location is under new management is in process of trying to improve its current poor reputation. Wayne Richelle is the new FOH manager and Gino Trimble is the new BOH manager and between the both are working hard to improve the overall reputation of this location. Refer to the website for updates to hours of operation and the weekly specials.

Note: This is a review for people who have Celiac Disease or a wheat allergy and eat GLUTEN FREE. I am going to a birthday party at Sonoma Chicken Coop this evening. My wife called ahead to speak with a manager regarding my dietary needs and what foods would be suitable for me to order. After speaking with the Kitchen Manager, we are NOT confident that anything I order would not be contaminated with wheat, rye, or barley in some way. Even after my wife explained that eating "gluten free" means that I cannot have wheat, rye, or barley, the manager said they do not use much butter and suggested that I eat the pizza. Celiacs and allergy sufferers: did you get that? The manager suggested I eat exactly what I cannot have! Eat at your own risk!

Wake up Sonoma Chicken Coop! You haven't received a rating higher than 2 stars since November 2012. Your new management isn't cutting it! This was my second visit this week and the manager(?) there, an older lady with long, blonde hair was petty and downright rude. They have a large yellow Happy Hour sign in the front stating "Half Price Appetizers with purchase of a drink". The lady charged me full price for my chicken wings and stated loudly and rudely that no such sign existed. I showed her the sign prominently displayed in her restaurant and she said the "I thought I took all of those signs down. The prior owners must have put that sign up." I asked her to still honor it and she rolled her eyes and walked away mid-sentence. That's how you treat your patrons? Really?? I'm sorry, but if you are advertising a price/promotion in your retail establishment, you must honor it. That is the law. For the $5 it would have cost her, she could have earned the loyal business of this family of five. I ordered the chicken wings at full price anyways. The extra 5 bucks isn't going to break me, but the way she handled it was puerile and short-sighted. Almaden is a small community and businesses, especially those that are out of the way like Sonoma Chicken, can't afford to treat people like that.

This is one of those rare restaurants that deserves a ZERO rating. After several tries, we will NEVER return. Bad food, worse service, noisy environment even when not busy. The last time, it was nearly empty and we still had to wait half an hour -- for their special. Found out it was sitting under the heat lamp drying out. No apology or explanation for the delay. When we finished eating, the manager came by to ask whether our dinner was "wonderful." I told her it was not and explained why. She thought I was kidding. When I insisted that I was serious, she offered us dessert. (Yes, she actually tried to placate me by subjecting us to MORE of this miserable experience.) When I refused, she said, "But I don't want you to be sad." Seriously... The only thing this place has going for it is being located near our home. That is not a good enough reason to return. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER AGAIN!!! I'd rather be hungry.

My husband and I planned a small (25 people) luncheon here to celebrate our son's baptism on July 27th. We called ahead of time to lock the date and menu and spoke to Elaine. She was super nice, helpful and informative. My husband even went into the restaurant to meet her and to finalize the details. We chose Option #2, Salmon and Chicken from the catering menu along with pasta with alfredo sauce and grilled veggies. The food was so good, very reasonably priced and presented nicely. We received so many compliments on the food, we were relieved because with catered meals, sometimes the food isn't cooked very well or not flavorful. This was not the case at all. The whole staff was very helpful and assisted us with the set-up. What's great about having your event at a restaurant is you don't have to worry about clean-up and tear-down of your event. They did it all for us. Elaine was so accommodating, she even allowed us to come a half hour before opening to set up the area with any decorations we had. They open at 11 on Saturday, we showed up at 10:30 and our event wasn't until 12. We also chose to have the luncheon inside towards the back of the restaurant instead of the patio because of the warm weather. Everything worked perfectly. We had more than enough room for all our guests and children, as well as space for a dessert table to be set up. We were beyond satisfied and very happy with the outcome and would recommend this Sonoma location in a heartbeat. Thank you to Elaine and her staff for all their help, helpful suggestions, letting us set-up early, and for use of your freezer!

Wow. I give this restaurant one star for the great bartender. If you just want to go drink, go to the bar. The drinks are poured well and the bartender that was working when I went was super friendly. HOWEVER!!! do nOT eat the food! This place has chicken in the name... so I order the Tropical Chicken Salad. It contained the nastiest looking chicken I've ever seen. Some of the pieces looked old and dried out. With a name like Tropical Chicken Salad, you would think it would have some flavor? It was totally bland. There were slices of mango that looked like they'd been sitting out all day. I took a bite of one and it was so not fresh. I had to order a pizza because I didn't want to eat the Salad. I ordered the combination pizza. The pizza was OKAY. For a place that has chicken in the name, I expect at LEAST average chicken....

1st let me say I went to this location because it was closer then the Campbell store and that's what I am comparing it to.... After eating at the Campbell location and enjoying the prime rib sammy, I stopped off at the Almaden location to have the same item. Oh Boy, so disappointed!!! 1. Pretty sure the bread wasn't the same, this time it was hard and thin, the meat just didn't taste good!! It had a slight taste of something else, like metal or just poorly cooked or cooked with something else on the grill, besides the whole clump of hard fat in it. The fries were good. Also the Campbell location had a dipping bowl, vs zero at this location, I am guessing they applied it to the bread instead... total waste of money!! 2. The soup we ordered was pretty good, except the bread they serve with it was so hard, even after dipping it in the soup we could have used it as a wood working tool. To many guys from the kitchen keep hanging out near the doors to the kitchen and over all feel of out dated and old vs how clean and updated the Campbell location was, I was reminded why I didn't eat at this chain for a very long time. So needless to say, no need to ever come back to this location, and to the people that run these chains, you need to work on food quality and consistency. The prime rib was more of prime rib reheat in the microwave with a side of frozen dinner at a 7-11 chain that a half baked person would have said, really this sucks...

I really like Sonoma Chicken Coop. My favorite one is in downtown Campbell but I also like the one on Alamden Expressway as well. I typically order the 1/4 chicken with the lemon vinaigrette sauce and either the fries or the grilled veggies if I am trying to be more healthy. The chicken is always nice and moist and I am a fan of the sauce. I also like their salads, they are always generous proportions.

I must say I am very dissapointed in this resturant. I have been to the Sonoma Chicken Coop in Campbell and really enjoyed it there. I don't know what it is that makes the Almaden location such a miss. I find the food to be very mediocre. It's not poor quality by any means but it's also nothing to write home about. The staff (on the two days I've been there anyway) are also luke warm. Not rude but also seem like they'd take the chance to be somewhere else in a heartbeat if given the chance. So as a company on the whole, I'd definately return to the Campbell location but Almaden, sorry you've lost my business.

First, this place looks big and nice from outside. We come here on a Sunday morning around 11:15am. We might be the first customer there, first time here too. Man, what's going on here? How to order? We had Combo Pizza and half chicken and 2 sids. Priced:29.54 Well, no need to say much here. I think any fast food place should be better then here. Sad~

The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is for the friendly staff. If it was based on food and atmosphere alone, I would have to give it one star. The acoustics would be great for a brew-pub but not a family restaurant, with little ones running around screaming (or just being kids). Food was very ho-humm, think a microwave meal from the grocery store would have been just as good. Although I did not try a salad, they looked really good but, due to the ambience . . . I won't be back.

Never coming here again. I paid 53 dollars for two adults and two children and the food was terrible. My daughter's pasta wasn't strained properly so it was covered in sauce on top and floating in a pool of water at the bottom. My risotto was buried in artichokes and not very appetizing. I just ate the salmon since it was the best part of the dish. (It was okay.). Bottom line: I could have gotten a much better meal for that much money anywhere else. It's really a shame because it's an attractive place and could be great.

Clucking Fantastic. I love this place and I feel the Almaden location is the best of the bunch. Spacious dining room and SUPER fast service. Dare I say it? The employees hustle around the place like a chicken with their head cut off....lol (Sorry I couldn't resist.) The rotisserie chicken is juicy and fresh. Their salads are delicious and fresh and they have a ton of drinks to choose from. (Including a full sized bar.) The service is super fast and the food always comes out hot. I always find myself saying, "Damn, that was fast." My favorite dish: The Apple Harvest Salad. Choice of blue cheese or feta cheese, tons of fresh apples slices, strawberries and cranberries and lots of fresh greens. LOVE IT!

This place just gets worse every time I go. One of the reasons I used to come here was that the food was reasonable for what you paid. Not super high quality but at least it was fresh and came out as you expect it. That seems to have gone away too now, unfortunately. The burgers are now either frozen or pre-cooked, because when they come out they just taste old. Fries taste like they were cooked in one giant batch and left sitting around for a couple of hours, and are not crispy. I got macaroni and cheese for my daughter and what came out was penne pasta; not a big deal for an adult, but a major issue for a little kid. I got a pizza here once and the cheese wasn't even fully melted, almost like a frozen pizza that you pull out of the oven a minute too early. It seems like they've just given up completely on their food. What keeps this place from being a one star is that it has a nice outside deck where you can get beer and appetizers. The quality of the appetizers kind of matches the low quality of the rest of their food now, but after a beer or two I stop caring.

I love Sonoma chicken Coop in Campbell. And so I drive by this one and think maybe it's gotten better. But it hasn't. I've ordered takeout from here four times to give it a chance, the service sucks the food is sub-standard. For the life of me I have no idea why it's still open

I called on Thursday 12/13 for a last minute birthday party for my daughter's 18th birthday on Friday 12/14 and Eileen was such an angel. Although busy with lots of other big parties, she managed to squeeze my party of 20 guests. I asked her what the best way was to order food for this group and she assisted me and it worked out. While we all waited for our food, she brought up some pizzas (on the house) for us. The food was amazing, we all had a great time and were able to chit chat amongst one another. THANK YOU EILEEN and Sonoma Chicken Coop team for everything!

This place is awful. I have heard the other franchises are good, but this one is not. Went here for lunch and had a chicken and cheddar sandwich. My fiancée had a roast beef dip. Both were terrible, tasteless and very dry. To make things worse, my brother-in-law saw a cockroach in the salad station. When I told the manager how bad it was, she didn't even come to our table to make amends or otherwise make the situation better. This is my first bad review on yelp, that is how bad this place is...

I can think of several reasons I wouldn't go back. 1) Tasteless rotisserie chicken. 2) Tiny portion, which may be why the chicken is tasteless. It's too young to taste like chicken. 3) Boring selection 4) Fresh cook? er... doesn't taste like fresh cook. More like the food has been sitting under a heat lamp for some time and reheated.

My aunt booked a reservation for 10 here for my cousin's baptism. Our experience was poor to say the least. First thing that irritated me: When we arrived there it took them 5 minutes to acknowledge us. They took us to our tables outside and they were dirty. We asked 5 times for the woman to clean the tables. Between the 3rd and 4th time we asked she tended to another party (bigger party) who had just arrived. She finally cleaned the table after I made it very clear that I was not happy about how many times we had to ask with a smug look on her face. Next, our food order took FOREVER and it wasn't even crowded! (it was a Sunday). This was my first trip to Sonoma and it wil most likely be my last. My aunt felt the same way.

Horrible! When did the coop go down, down hill? Menu is limited to just a few items. I had one of the specials - chicken lettuce wraps and they were extremely salty. I think this place must be getting ready to shut down soon.

Undiscovered huge new location for the same pre-concert downtown San Jose food. Nice lunch spot with my new Yelper on a role headline making paw rating queen, but would be good for a drink or mellow dinner as well. 3.5 stars (.5 stars more than the downtown one because of the space) Cost to worth it ratio: 3 Highlights: - Space: huge seating area--the equivalent of 2 large rooms. Feels really open with all that space and the high ceilings. When you enter from outside, it looks like a big ole log cabin. - Patio: nice summertime hang out space - Bar: half inside and half outside via the window--super cute! - Food: same as other locations--basic and good. My dt location review comments on this: yelp.com/biz/sonoma-chic… Lowlights (my flip side to highlights): - Random location: kinda hidden in a strip mall and still in the SJ area, so far from me. If I happen to be in the area, this would be the place to go on my list.

It was good food. Kinda noisy. But what I disliked mostly is that there was a hair (brown- about 6" long) in my sauce. Yuck!

So, monday night, my 15-year old sister blurted out she wanted to try Sonoma Chicken Coop and being the nice sister that I am (=p), I said we'd go. We went to pick up a friend then drove our butts down to the Almaden branch. We get there like 630-7ish and parking was easy. We walked in and they had specials posted which was awesome coz I haven't the slightest clue what this place offers. What surprised me though was this place wasn't like your sit-down and somebody gets your order place so it totally threw me off. There's this one counter with like a couple of cashiers and people fall in line to order/pay for their meals and they give you a pager for when your meal's ready. There wasn't a long line, just enough to let us go over the menu and pick out our food and stuff. We got our drinks, found us a table and prolly about 10 minutes later, food was ready. My sister had the chicken with some bbq sauce and herb seasoned rice, I had a garlic fettucine alfredo and my friend had a chicken carbonara of some sort over rice. My fettucine was eh, okay I guess, twas a little bland actually and sprinkles of salt and pepper didn't do any tricks. It was totally lacking in flavor, thumbs up for the chunks of chicken although it tasted like it was just boiled then thrown into the sauce and pasta. I tried some of my sis' chicken and it actually was decent. The bbq sauce would not have been my first option but I believe they do have a couple to three more sauces to choose from. My friend's chicken carbonara was I guess okay too since he's had it before so no complaints/comments about that one. Fountain drinks, all same. I would honestly have given this place just two stars but the desserts definitely deserved the 3rd star! We ordered the Dark Chocolate Fondue and the Butterscotch Bread Pudding. The Dark Chocolate Fondue was sooo good and I liked how they have a variety of stuff to dip in - there's bananas, strawberries, orange, marshmallows, rice krispies, ice cream, this tasty butter type of bread and some sort of wafer I think. But the real star of the night was the Bread Pudding, that was the bomb! It was so delish and I would've wolfed down the whole thing if I wasn't that full from dinner and the fondue lol I'd come back in like a month or so and give this place's dinner menu another chance.. or maybe even earlier coz I can actually hear the desserts calling out to me now! =)

the newest sonoma chicken coop location! the sonoma chicken coop is very affordable and tasty american cuisine. my favorite dish here is the half chicken with the lemon caper vinagrette! they also have great brew! the other locations are in downtown san jose and downtown campbell. i am also a fan of their calamari and white hot mozzarella. all of their dishes are served with a slice of pizza bread. yum! their salads are also good but the pasta is just ok. i love the you order your food, they call your number kind of deal.

In the Almaden location, if you sit at the bar, they'll take your order and bring your meal. You don't have to go up to the window to order and pick up. This is a good thing. The chicken is excellent and you can order it with different sauces and sides. Rock shrimp bisque is pretty good, for a place that doesn't specialize in seafood. Also there's a huge outdoor patio. Great place to go if you live nearby.

this has to be one of my most favorite restaurants! fast seating because you seat yourself (unless its busy but never happened when i went), extremely fast service, super yummy food, and good prices! i reallllly recommend you try the SKILLET CHICKEN CARBONARA (as long as you like chicken, rice, with bits of bacon, and a creamy sauce alllll over). i'm craving some now.

Have noticed the quality of the food going down and down.Quite apparent that the people in charge have no concept of how to run a succesful restaurant, heard they are about ready to close this location down.Avoid it at all costs, risotto was like soup, salmon was frozen, sauces came out of a can.Too bad,It used to be so good,my favorite restaurant. They need to take a good look around at who is running this place.Wont be back again.

the food here is good but pricey depending on what you get.. when we ordered we presented the coupon we received in the mail but none of the cashiers know anything about the coupon or how it worked. the place was clean thanks to the great bus boys that worked there. service seemed to be a Little slow. I will the coop again.

For this restaurant to be in multiple locations in the San Jose area, I would definitely choose to go to another one. It seems that every time I have been to this location the food is so much heavier than the other locations. This location also tends to be noisier and have longer waits for tables. I have nothing against the chain, I just prefer the other restaurants over this specific one.

Finally one in my neck of the woods, Just like the original downtown one but a little bigger of inside dining option. Decorated quite nicely. Food is about the same menu. Priced the same. Good option for sitting down w/o the price of having to pay a tip or waiting for the wait staff. Gets quite busy on Friday nights.

My friends love this place so I actually go here to eat quite a bit. I love BBQ so I usually order that with dark meat and fries and mashed potatoes for the 2 sides. It's a very casual place where you want to just grab food and just chill and catch up with friends.

  • Mark H.

It's so nice to have a place in Almaden to grab a drink now. There was literally nowhere to go since I've lived here, we've always had to make the drive to Los Gatos. I claim this as my "local". Atmosphere is 100% different from its original owner, and the McDonald's that followed for sometime after.

    (4)
  • Connie C.

The inside is very nicely decorated, good atmosphere. This place used to be a McDonald's, so it was a pretty amazing transformation. I came here with three friends and we had a very filling dinner. The food took a little long to be done, but it was all very delicious and well-made. For desert we had the Dark Chocolate Fondue. This was so cute, it had a little stand of chocolate with an assortment of fruits and cookies to dip in. All in all, a bit on the pricey side since it was kind of in the middle of nowhere, but it was a very pleasant meal.

Went here last Sunday for a friend's birthday lunch. After ordering our food I noticed it was happy hour all day! Beer for $2.50, well for $4.50 and appetizers discounted. The jalapeno chicken sandwich I ordered was tasty and tasted good the next day since I had leftovers. The portions are pretty big and the busers were quick to remove any plates that were in our way. What a great way to chill with friends for lunch!

There are many reasons why there was only one other couple there when we went: This place is confusing right when you enter! Where is the sign that says MENU? The menu itself is pretty lame. I had a hard time finding something that would really satisfy my hunger. I settled on the cobb salad since I figured its impossible to mess up. What I got was a bunch of greens(which is good), a scoop of tomatoes, half an avocado(which is good as well), some cheese and bacon. Why was there COLD slice of pizza on my salad? The ranch dressing was good though, but urgh for all the hype it gets this place really let me down. Only reason they arent getting 1 star is because of the fair price. I dont think I'll ever be back unless I am dragged by the girlfriend who thinks this food is good.

  • Thermo S.

Today was my second time coming here. My boyfriend and I did not think the food was worth the money we paid. Plus, we both got upset stomachs afterward. I felt nauseous about an hour later and that night, I had diarrhea. Gross, I know. I will spare you the details, but just wanted to warn you.

    (1)
  • Jerry V.

Wow. So a co-worker said this place was pretty good. I guess they have rotisserie chicken and side dishes like goat cheese fondue and Artichoke appetizer were the two appetizers we tried. I also got the 1/4 chicken and fries. The gf got the Salmon Burger. So you walk thru this walkway. Its sort of like Sizzler's or Fuddrucker's for those who know. But we got our food. Not all of it,(they forgot to give us the artichoke appetizer. The chicken was not so good. It was also happy hour and we got the appetizers because they were half off. Yeah. This only works if you order from the bar. So they will not give you the half off they advertise for in the menu or window. The service was horrible. The food was less than horrible. But the overall dining experience? Still horrible. I would rather eat a Costco rotisserie chicken and not have to worry about it being bad.

Sad. I was really excited to have these guys move to the neighborhood. Pledged to be a regular patron. But they suck and my family and kids can't stand the joint. So we no longer go. Food is below average, staff is mediocre. Done!

    (1)
  • Melissa R.

I was excited to eat here, mainly because all my friends have told me it was a great place to sit down and eat. Sadly, I was disappointed with both the food and the attentiveness of the staff. The food was over-priced and the ordering system/line area seemed to be in a dis-array. The food took way too long to get to us, and it was not prepared to my liking. I did not send it back however because I did not want to wait another 15 minutes with the chance they would screw it up again. I did not think it was possible to screw up chicken and veggies, but it seemed like something I could get out of the freezer section at the grocery store and prepare it better in my kitchen. I may or may not go back here, but for now, I shall stay away. Don't waste your money here!

I love eating at the downtown SCC during lunch (and a couple of times for dinner before a Sharks game) - but I feel like the Almaden location thinks because it's closer to a more affluent area it can get away with higher prices for less food. Which, I must say, is very disappointing. My other problem with this location is that when it's packed to the rafters, it's LOUD in there which makes it really hard to hold a conversation. I went for dinner with a friend I hadn't seen in a while, and we both left with a headache from having to focus on each other so much in order to chat and catch up. Back to the food: I had the Garlic Chicken Alfredo - my favourite of the dishes I've tried downtown, and it just didn't compare. Besides the smaller portion, there was less meat and fewer mushrooms. I've eaten at the Campbell location once and found it compared well to the downtown location (although I didn't go inside - I had my macaw with me so we ate outside and my parents brought my food out to me!) so I can't say how the noise levels compare to Campbell) I'll try this location again in a few months to see if, once all the hub-bub and excitement has died down, things improve on the price-for-what-you-get issue ... but honestly if they don't find some way to dampen the ambient noise, I'll have to go only when the weather's nice enough to eat outside so I can spare my ears while filling my tummy.

I agree this place is getting better. Long time customers and the bar seems to have gotten better as well as the food. We have been asking them to put the pulled pork on the menu since it is often on for specials and the kids love the pulled pork sandwich and sliders.

Wow, I was surprised to see the low reviews! I like Sonoma Chicken Coop. I've been to the one downtown a few times. It's a casual atmosphere with a cafeteria style ordering system... what do you expect? The food is very good. The menu has a great selection of fish, pasta, pizza, chicken (of course) and they seem to mix it up often. The perfect meal here for me is the half-chicken with a side of their mashed potatoes and a Fat Tire draft beer. Mmmmmmm.

I really miss the good food at Sonoma Chicken Coop. The food was great when they first opened their restaurant and it was always a delight to eat there. The quality of the food is no longer there and the other night, I couldn't believe the mash potatoes tasted like something out of a box. What happened!!

    (3)
  • Lea N.

I used to live out in Cali... and Sonoma Chicken Coop was ALWAYS a fav. Their chicken is moist and delicious! Grilled veggies always fresh and cooked to perfection. It was always a great place to go get a hot, tasty, and quick healthy meal!

  • Ron G.

Ordered the lime chicken plate and was pretty disappointed. The mashed potatoes and rice was ok but the chicken looked like it was beaten flat and over cooked. It came with 3 little pieces and each piece I moved on to got worse and more burnt. The downtown location was totally different from this place, maybe cause i always see the owner there making sure everyone is ok and they enjoyed their food. Maybe the cooks here are bitter cause there stuck in Almaden, or they just don't care cause the owner is never there. Anyways this is the last time I'll come to this location.

Although there aren't many places to get a good family meal in Almaden, we had high hopes for Sonoma Chicken Coop. It has a great location and nice outdoor space and on summer nights it is a great place to hang with friends. I have been here three times, once with a kids sports team and once with my family and once with girlfriends. All in all the food is not great although the salads are ok. My husband refuses to return but I have gone for just drinks and that is a good time. The kids eat free Tuesdays is a nice touch and makes this a good place to go with another mom and kids. The kids like the pizza and the 'refill your own drinks' is always a hit. If you are looking for an easy meal then Sonoma Chicken Coop is fine but the food is not great.

  • Kimberly S.

I can't seem to have anything good to say about this place... i mean the food is like hospital food/fresh choice/airplane food all mixed together. i'm not saying that the taste is bad, it's just average. but i mean they just have your average spaghetti, your average chicken, and blah blah blah blah. well actually i kind of like their bbq chicken pizza (thats actually worth it). i just see it as a fancier fresh choice, but a more cheaper cheesecake factory. all in all, its just ok.

I had the quarter chicken and it was smaller than my fist. (I do not have a big fist) I had to drown it in BBQ sauce to eat it. The pizza they give you is gross and it's incredibly small. My mom had the seafood pasta and the sauce is mediocre and nothing special. My dad had the chicken sandwich and it was the worst. The chicken was bland an burnt. My grandma had to chicken salad an it was the best but that's not saying much. Just some chopped lettuc and chicken I can make that at home. Defiantly won't recommend comming here. Go to legends across the street.

The food at Sonoma Chicken Coop is pretty mediocre, although i really like their beer selection. It's a pretty good place to go before a San Jose Sharks game - if you want beer, this is the place to get it. HP Pavilion has 6 dollar beer last time I checked. I had a pizza and I wasn't too impressed. The BBQ Chicken Pizza may be better. I haven't been there in a few years so maybe it's changed, but I remember my friend who I went there with didn't like the chicken she ate. Since this is the Sonoma Chicken Coop, that probably isn't too good.

I'm giving four stars for atmosphere. I love the outdoor patio, it's great for a cool summer night. We went last Thursday and it was great. We practically had the whole patio to ourselves. At about 7pm they had live music which is always fun (The guy was really good). My two cousins had a blast dancing along with the music (they are 3 and 6). The food was okay, nothing special. I had the Cheddar Chicken and Avocado Sandwich, got way more bread than chicken and like two slices of avocado, the fries were alright. We did get the chocolate fondue for dessert and it was awesome! When go back it will probably just be for drinks and dessert and to hear the live music.

I scheduled a mid-week holiday party for our staff and were accommodated on the back patio at my request. The setup staff was great; always asking if there was anything else I needed. When arranging the buffet menu, I was given several options to accommodate a few vegetarians and a wide variety of choices that would work with our group. I was allowed plenty of time before our event to decorate. While waiting for our group, some friends and I enjoyed the company of Bry (the bartender) and sat at the bar, where the service was great too, even as the crowd began to grow. I've eaten here before with family and friends and have not been disappointed. The manager I worked with was very attentive and he followed up on all of my emails when I had questions/updates. I highly recommend the Coop for your events.

We ordered Calamari , Buffalo wings, and the Mango salad. The Mango salad was pretty good but they should put the dressing on the side because it soaked up and become mushy quickly especially for take home order. The portions seemed to be smaller and definitely the prices went up The staffs were very friendly and extremely helpful I will give them sometimes to put everything together Overall, it is a fun place to go for myself and myfamily. Can't wait till they have outdoor music in the summer.

there are soo many other fancier and better restaurants you can go to for the same price as this one! I don't understand why there are soo many people here as the food sucks and it is way way way overpriced! I don't understand really... shit...

I came here for a reception for my friend's baby baptism. The tables were put together so it was like a long table, in one area of the restaurant. there were like 3 rows of them. Mind you there were families with little children, strollers, etc. The setup wasn't family friendly. I ended up having to move to another table in the restaurant with my family. Getting food at the buffett line took forever because the chaffing dishes weren't full of food, so it had to be refilled. My friend brought 2 ice cream cakes earlier that morning, and that never got served! oh no they di-int!

I go here pretty regularly and find the food great and the people friendly. Garlic Chicken Alfredo is one of my favs - reliable. I like how there is always something different and new to try. Good dinner at reasonable price.

The half chicken was really moist. The artichoke that came with it was a bit dry, though. And what is the $4 for OJ? Come on. The bathrooms were very dirty. At least have someone check them once an hour or so.

First off, to the other two reviewers, don't call in Gordon Ramsey yet. I went to the new location opening day and was completely in awe about how they transformed the old Mickey D's into this place. It looks 95.99% different. The bar, the plasmas, the patio with the outdoor oven: sweet. Second: the food. Ordered the BBQ chicken pizza and calamari. Both were just like the two other locations I've been to (downtown/campbell). And I paid lunch prices, not dinner prices. Good stuff. Trois: the cashiers were very friendly. The owners greeted everyone who walked in and were dished tons of compliments about the place. I was able to chat with two of the chefs, and they were incredily excited about the place. I know a few of the bussers as well. The opening week jitters will wear off and they'll get into a groove. Considering how long it took from the announcement to the opening and all the hype, I'm glad this location is finally here in Almaden and I'll certainly support it for a long time. Give them a break and wait a few months and they'll be on par if not better than the other locations. C'mon...the dressing wasn't on the side...wow...

  • Lissa o.

My least favorite of the Chicken Coops. The patio broils YOU, not the chicken on hot days so sit inside! They should put a cover but I guess they must not have the cash. I had a bridal shower there and my suggestion is, don't book a party there.

i like this place. most of all the location is great. I had late lunch at outdoor table, with perfect weather. it can be a little pricy but i think the food, taste and quality are worth it. i would recommend here for light lunch or dinner

I remember when this place was a McDonalds, so definitely an upgrade for the building. Just as good as the other coops with out the trendiness. More of a family/friendly feel. I also like the sports bar area they have which makes it seem more like a local hang out.

**UPDATE** went back few weeks ago (9/25/12) and the Cobb was the worst. My husband had some type of curry dish, wow has this place gone downhill. OK, the food isn't 5 star caliber but I'm rating this a "4" star because I think this place is on the upswing. I think it either changed ownership or hired a new manager? First off--if you are looking for a romantic 5 star meal, without kids, this is not your place!!! It cracks me up when I hear yelpers complain in their reviews about kids lol. They have a KIDS MENU so why anyone should be suprised kids are there is beyond me. Anyway- I did not like the dish I ordered. It was the chicken alfredo with mashed potatoes and leeks. My dish looked like just a glob of alfredo sauce. There were two tiny pieces of chicken but I had to take it back to the cook because I didn't see any mashed potatoes with it. It didn't look ANYTHING remotely like the picture it showed. (I know, I know--it never does but seriously this was wayyyyy of the mark!). They could improve on this dish with just a few drizzles of the sauce, more of the chicken and a big helping of the mashed potatoes. That's all it would take. My parents had the mahi fish dish & beef strogonff and my husband had the pulled pork. We also had a glass each of their Moon Bear. It was really good. For desert we had the carmel bread pudding, hockey puck and banana w/phyillo. Desert was all good, except the banana one. I love the outdoor patio and the fireplace. Our bill was cheap too. My parents got the 15% discount and my daughter's meal was free. (HINT-you can download coupons by just googling it.) The service was awesome too. This is the 3rd time we eat here and it seems like the service was better this time. My 4 stars are based on good value, the understanding this is a cafeteria joint, this is a huge step up from fast-food, a great FAMILY place and you can get coupons..not bad

We have been to Sonoma Chicken Coop several times in the past and enjoyed it. Yesterday our experience was mixed. My wife had the BBQ chicken sandwich which she said was good, and I had the Portobello mushroom sandwich which I did not find good. The Portobello mushroom was tough and there was little else on the sandwich to add much flavor. In the past I had the eggplant zuchinni sandwich which I really liked. The eggplant sandwich was made with foccacia bread which was really tasty. My wife's BBQ sandwich and my Portobello mushroom sandwich were made with a roll which did not have a very good taste. Also, our sandwiches came with some chips instead of the french fries that we used to really enjoyed. The other two in our party had the Asian noodle salad which they enjoyed.

i like the campbell one a lot better. been here a few times. one time i ordered the artichoke appetizer and it was totally burnt! since i didn't check it before i left and got it to go it was kind of inconvenient to go back... but that was annoying. last experience was not great either. called in to check if there was happy hour on appetizers and if i could get it togo -- person said yes. when i got there, the cashier said it was only at the bar. when i got to the bar the guy said they weren't having it, and i said i called in earlier! he asked his manager who said they were. after waiting a bit, he then told me that he has to ask if i can get it since it requires a drink! i ended up leaving and going to erawan out of frustration since i was hungry and did not want to get sent back and forth anymore! seems like a pretty popular place though, always has a good amount of people.

This Chicken Coop is so hit and miss. The first time my husband and I went there, it was just OK. We went back to give it another try about a year later and it seemed to be better. Both food and drinks were good. The last couple of times I went there I ordered a Mai Tai, which, in my opinion, is a fairly well-known drink. The bartender who made it had no idea how to make it and it ended up being slightly sweetened alcohol. So I sent it back and asked for a different drink--I think it was a Fuzzy Navel. Couldn't make that one either. We gave the place one last try a few weeks after that experience and the same bartender was there. By this time the person would know how to make drinks other than pouring beer, right? Nope. They still didn't know how to make either of the drinks I ordered. That will be the last time I go there.

I like this place. Cool indoor / outdoor bar area with generous drinks (at least when Steve is serving. Ask for the tall glass! ) There was even a live band Friday . Got the half a roasted chicken with the bbq sauce and it was moist and delicious. Not sure why other yelpers got some dry chicken. Don't think that's the norm. I like the cafeteria type service 'cause you can sit your ass wherever ya want and drink and eat be friggin' merry!

Pro's: More restaurants and more choices are desperately needed in Almaden! Food to go is hot and packaged great so I recommend getting your meals to go. Shrimp Bisque Soup is so good that I could order it a couple times a week. Ummmmm good! Most of the menu items are good but no real standouts. Con's: This place is so noisy that I tried to eat inside one time and took the food and left. They need to put in sound proofing on the walls to stop the noise from circulating endlessly. They put fries inside a plastic container with their ribs on orders to go - what is that about? Soggy fries!!!

I used to really like Sonoma Chicken Coop Unfortunately prices have gone up quality down I have had 2 recent meals that were just not good.I usually have the Veggie rice risotto. The last 2 times it was not made well. The artichoke also was not cooked correctly..Perhaps if you stick with their chicken you can get a decent meal.

I have eaten at the "Chicken Coop" many times, the Campbell location is a great place to take my girlfriend for an inexpensive, decent dinner. It's also especially nice for going with cheap friends who always seem to sneak away right when the check comes to the table. So I love any restaurant that prevents that from happening. The food is great here, I had lunch at this particular location and enjoyed a very interesting root salad of some type, surprisingly it was pretty good! I'll be back here many times.

Just the ticket for busy people heading home to Almaden Valley. Tasty home style food is prepared quickly although you wouldn't call it fast food. The atmosphere is casual, talkative, and friendly. At times, the inside seating area can get a bit noisy but, in good weather, the outdoor patio is always nice. I usually get the half chicken with lemon vinaigrette sauce or the chicken carbonara but most things are good here. Don't order the roasted artichoke because it will take forever.

I've eaten here about 6 times with my co-workers. Twice I have ordered the half chicken to get it cold/room temperature. Ordered some type of alfredo pasta dish and it tasted like they squirted 5 lemons onto it before serving. Pizza has always been terrible, like 1990's domino's but luke warm. But if you like to be charged high prices for school cafeteria quality food then this place is for you :)

This restaurant is so new, the SCC website isn't even updated, so you won't find the phone number or address (it's at the corner of Almaden Expressway & McAbee). Both of us ordered Lime Grilled Chicken last night, anticipating that yummy lime flavor our taste buds craved. Unfortunately, the chicken was over-grilled, so the dominant flavor was burnt chicken. Too bad as we had higher expectations. The chicken was served with mashed potatoes and rice pilaf (can you say Carbo load?!). I would have preferred steamed veggies in exchange for one of the starches. The Almaden Valley has needed a restaurant like this since the California Cafe vacated that location. The restaurant is large with lots of inside tables, a very nice outdoor seating area & a bar. The decor is simple. There's lots of free parking! We'll try it again, but we won't be ordering the Lime Grilled Chicken again.

the chicken are average, and the meal are poorly prepared. overall. lacks of characters, feel like a generic blend of chain stores with half set up bar that has no business.
