The food is always great here but service sucks. I had to ask for water four times before I got it. The waitress forgot the first time. Another waiter forgot what table asked for water and served water to the three tables next to us. I asked my waitress for water again. She forgets and comes back to serve me coffee. Smh. Finally, after the fourth darn time after telling her that I'm dying with no water because of the spice from the shrimp and grits. She remembered. Chef gets 5 stars!

Well worth the wait. I also ordered the shrimp and grits and that was excellent. A hidden gem in Oakland! Just be prepared to sit and wait after you order. The food is cooked to order.

I have now been here about three times. I can honestly say I dont really care HOW long the wait time is I will wait and I will continue to wait for as long as I have to. I love love love their food. I have had the chicken and waffles, beignets, grits, and some hash thing my friend ordered. But lawwwwd oh lawwwwd I love Brown Sugar Kitchen and if I have to choose where to go to brunch I will always say them. Sigh. Its an unhealthy addiction.

A little hard to get to if you don't have a bike/ car (or happen to live close) - but so worth the trip. Chicken and waffles are my favorite here. They have perfect waffles - crispy, light, soft on the inside. Sit at the bar.

Elite fried chicken. Mango lemonade tasted like it had aromatics in it. Waffle was light and airy. Maple syrup was homemad; not thick and mass produced like what you get at the store. Fried chicken juicy, perfectly fried. Herbs, spices for the batter were perfect. Not too heavy. In a bad neighborhood where signs are plastered adjacent to restaurant warning patrons of theft. They will not allow you to take chicken home (protecting recipe perhaps?)

Pretty great Chicken and Waffles. Coffee could be a little better (had a sour taste). Service was excellent. I would go back.

Yum! Wait was quoted 45 tips, got seated around 20 minutes. Food took 35 to 40 minutes. I loved my chicken, it was lightly battered but very crispy and the meat was tender and flowing with juice! My plate consisted of a beast and drum and my bf had a wing and thigh. The waffles were not what I ecoectrd, they were pretty airy and not filled with dough, more like a waffle chip. It was very thick in size but be tricked when you bite in to it. I like how the kitchens behind the bar seating area because it is open and customers are are able to see eveything. Will be back for the chicken.

We ate the chicken and waffles and the chicken was hella dry and the waffle was not cooked all the way. Paid way to much for this. Will never go back again 1 start because I have to.
