$1.95 bagels! yummy yummy yummy. They have a decent selection of bagels (asiago spinich?!) and also do sandwhiches and have some really exciting schmears around. It seemed busy when I went in (which is a good sign, they bring in the business!) but still worked very quickly and were very friendly. Some people knew the drill and grabbed tiny slips they fill out for their bagels. Sadly, I was the novice who did not understand how to use the bagel slips and was somewhat confused. Thankfully, the bagel man was very nice and talked me through the bagel process. I got a parm bagel with some plain schmear, and it was under two dollars! I am currently broke (from beer and tattoos... ugh) so I was definately on a budge. Any meal I can get for less than the cost of my BART fare is fine by me. I got my bagel quickly, and I got it with a smile so I could enjoy it on that fountain seating area right outside. Yum!

This place is great! They recognize me when I come in and are always friendly. I have catered from here as well and they are very efficient and reasonably priced. My favorite is the spinach and asiago :)

Yum... had the spinach asiago bagel w/ cream cheese. I will be getting this again my next visit!!!

These are sub-par bagels for sure. They are small, they are not fluffy, and they get stale in under a day. But a bagel and cream cheese is pound-for-pound my favorite food on earth. Some mornings you just gotta have it, no matter what. And that's where Bagel Street Cafe steps in. They always do a good job of toasting and applying cream cheese, which may seem like a small thing, but a lot of better bakeries mess it up. There's lot of toppings to choose from, but I always get the combo, which is right up my alley, an everything bagel without the onions or garlic. Ultimately, I could rate this a 1 or a 5, but if you want a bagel in the DTO, this is your destination.

Yum... the sundried tomato bagel toasted, with veggie cream cheese and tomato hits the spot on a lot of days.

I love their bagels. They don't freeze/last as long as some other stores, but day of, they are really yummy. I also think they make a pretty good sandwich for a good price. Plus, the sandwich isn't so massive that I am throwing away half of it. I have always had really fast service and been very satisfied at the end of my meal. Oh, and I agree about the cookies, they are good and cheap too!

Great bagles and awesome sandwiches. though they sometimes screw up Shatangi's order, they know me by name since my second visit. Good place to get a good, inexpensive sandwich. Shatangi told you

The best place to buy Bagels. Staff is very friendly and food is very affordable. The sandwich I always get is the sourdough bread w/chicken salad...Mmmmm!!!!!!

This is now the 2nd time I have had our orders botched in Oakland. Same problem but today the manager Jerry completely blew us off when trying to explain the problem. Made it four blocks and six floors before discovering they botched our order AGAIN! Because of previous experience's we learned to order each bagel slowly and one at a time. I noticed that the person taking the order's does not write it down. Instead of leaving with our chicken salad bagel we were sent off with a plain bagel. We were treated rudely and our experience with Jerry (Manager) was very unpleasant when attempting to explain and rectify the problem. There are other shops that can fulfill our meeting orders without the unpleasant experience we received from the Oakland shop. With all of the Protesting and loss of business due to the Occupy campaign you would think shops would listen to their customers. Our office was charged again and unfortunately we will not be doing business with the Oakland store any longer. We felt our requests for better service were not met. Is Yelp our only outlet to let others know to stay away? Bagels are good but the service is horrible!!!!

Haven't been here in some time, and it has become a lot more popular apparently. They do get busier then they used to and have some new workers. Still a good pick but if you customize your order please take a second to check you got what you ordered. It seems they are still getting used to keeping up with the lunch rushes. Still good food and friendly service!

Nice fresh bagels, this is my go-to bagel stop so far. However, their "everything bagel" only has seeds on it, and I'm a big fan of "everything" actually meaning a lot more than sesame and poppy seeds.

Since I work so close to Bagel Street Cafe, I am their regular customer, I'm there almost everyday for the last 2 years. I must say I love their muffins, especially the blueberry, it is awesome!! I am an extremely picky on my food, but you have to try them, I highly recommend it. Their bagels are fresh from the oven, they are great too, and their workers are friendly, especially Nick, he is a great guy.

Very cheap, fast and friendly. I love that they have mini-bagels. Perfect for a snack. Even though it's not on the menu, they make a yummy turkey melt... just for me :-) And they have french vanilla and hazelnut-flavored coffee :) Just for me, also. 'Cause who else drinks that stuff, right? Whatever... keep your sarcasm. Anything is better than the burnt Starbucks beans. But I digress... Back to bagels. Go get one. Before they run out of minis.

A decent bagel and very friendly service. I have to dock a star though because one of the staff people standing by the register picked his nose out in the open and didn't even bat an eyelash (or take his finger out of his nose) when we locked eyes. I didn't see him go to wash his hands afterwards either. At least go in the back if you're going to do that. Thank goodness he wasn't the one who handled my bagel.

The only game in town, bagel wise. Decent, but nothing outstanding.

Sometimes after I've worked out at the gym, I'll just say 'screw it' to all that effort and come here for a bagel layered with cream cheese, tomato and cucumber. Self- control? What's that? Actually they're pretty stingy with the tomato and cucumber; they cut them into these tiny almost transparent slices. Tia Maria downstairs makes them better for about the same cost. But here, if you like variety with your bagels and cream cheeses, then they have that and at decent prices too.

reasonable prices nick (owner?) is fun and friendly sandwiches are good fruit salad is worth it when you catch it fresh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nice warm, toasty feeling when you walk in on a cold day not bad at all

Really good, fresh, and tasty sandwiches. I didn't realize this place was a chain. I'll probably try to find the one in SF as I don't work near it anymore. It's small, but you can order and take it out in the plaza to eat. They serve other small items like chips, yogurt, fruits, etc. to eat with your sandwich.

This place is aight. Standard bagel place..decent cream cheese and a decent array of bagels. I actually really like they have a few whole wheet options. I had a sandwich with egg that was okay. Could have used some salsa or something but I didn't ask for it so that's on me. Better than grabbing some monsterous pastry at starbucks or something.

I've probably been to Bagel St. half a dozen times, and I'm never excited to go there. Example: I'm making a sandwich for lunch, the bread is dated "sell by August 1" (four days away) and yet it has mold on it, dammit. I take off for a walk to the only place for bread that doesn't require moving the car (Oakland's City Center) A fairly typical experience: when I arrive at Bagel St, the woman behind the counter tells me that they don't have sesame seed bagels left. Although the sign says that they bake their bagels throughout the day, I highly doubt this claim, because I rarely see anyone in there. Who are they turning all these bagels over to? She recommends I consider the sesame seed hard roll. While the bagels at Bagel Street are mediocre when I'm feeling generous, this roll was warm and quite good. Crunchy on the outside, appropriately doughy without going overboard on the inside. Therefore, Bagel St shall be reserved for rolls only going forward.

I only go in here to get chocolate croissants (they are yummy and fillllled with chocolate) and to get cookies. The cookies were a find -- 65 cents for a cookie!

Toasted plain mini-bagel with plain cream cheese for exactly $1! Best snack EVER, hits the spot, and doesn't result in me eating more bagel than I need to satisfy that craving. Ridiculously fast service - they toast that little guy in the time it takes you to get your wallet out.

  • Mike F.

Blechhh. Every bagel I try in there tastes like it has onions in the batter. Maybe other people like that, but I'm not into it. They might try keeping the onion/garlic bagels quarantined.

Probably one of the better City Center dining options, Bagel Street Cafe is a welcome divergence from all of the corporate crap in the Plaza. I go there for the cream cheese bagel and various bagel sandwich combinations. Much more affordable than the rest of the restaurants in the area.

  • Marta L.

When you get one of the Bagel St. Cafe's salt bagels fresh in the morning, who needs cream cheese? YUM. Affordable and relatively fast (for Oakland) for lunch, too. I think in the world of non-NY bagel places, this place holds its own. And when they have them in stock, their huge bags of bagel chips for just $2.50 have got to be one of the best low-fat snacks out there. They're out of them way too often, though!

Had some business to handle downtown, but needed something to hold me over until I ventured down to the Eat Real Festival in Jack London Square.. Anywaaaay, ordered an everything bagel toasted with cream cheese. It was perfectly toasted and the cream chees covered every bit just how l like. If I am in the area and am craving a bagel, this will be the spizzot to go to.

  • Henry S.

Just like their other locations their bagels are fresh and delicious. I love their cinnamon raisin bagel with scallion cream cheese (sweet and savory). Their breakfast sandwiches are really good also! Im usually never disappointed when I grab breakfast here.

Bagels are evil, such tiny portions, but if you add heaping layers of cream cheese like Bagel Street does, it automatically turns into a 750 calorie breakfast that will last you for about 2 hours. Sneaky. I crave a plain bagel toasted with the sundried tomato cream cheese, add cucumber from time to time. The sundried tomato is always sold out for some reason. It's so delicious. There's a small line in the morning, but it moves quite fast. Their bagel sandwiches are also tip top. Turkey Club is my fav. Again heaping layers of turkey (instead of the cream cheese). Portions are massive for a such a good deal. Perfect for a lunch or a breakfast snack... we know that breakfast meals starts with breakfast and ends in buffet.

This bagel shop is conveniently located in Oakland's City Center and offers a wide selection of bagels and cream cheeses. Whether you're in the mood for a traditional plain bagel or something more inventive, like a bagel with sundried tomatoes or basil pesto, this cafe's got you covered! With a cream cheese selection almost as diverse as the bagels, you could have a different bagel combination on each visit. I love that the employees at this location understand what you mean when you ask for a little bit of cream cheese on your bagel. I ordered the Asiago spinach bagel on two different days this week. On both occasions, my bagel was perfectly toasted with only a light spread of veggie cream cheese. This cafe also sells a variety of pastries as well as coffee and tea. I had a blueberry bagel this morning that tasted pretty standard. Nothing to call home about! I was more excited about their tea selection since they use one of my favorite brand of tea bags (Stash). Once you've paid and collected your order, you can take a seat at one of the tables inside the restaurant or in the seating area directly outside and enjoy your breakfast.

This is one of the spots I occasionally stop by in my morning walk between the BART station and the office. They have a nice selection of different bagels and plenty of options on how you want them prepared. I like to keep it relatively simple and just get a toasted bagel with cream cheese, and it's a great way to start off my mornings. The line will always be shorter than Starbucks, and the coffee is a lot cheaper. Note that they charge you extra if you pay with card under $3, but a bagel and coffee will get you over that anyway.

This is one of the restaurants that I see myself being a regular on my commute to work. They have an impressive selection of bagels, and a lot of different ways to eat 'em. They also work fast despite the long lines in the morning. Their nova lox bagel is absolutely amazing, succulent and when toasted, has a great amount of crunch. I would definitely recommend.

I searched on yelp for a good bagel shop that was walking distance from where I was staying that served more than just cream cheese as their spread since I'm vegan. If its your first time at this plaza, just look for the brightly colored geometric structure that has cushioned seating around the edges and the shop is just to the right, adjacent to cupcake love, if your coming from the Chinatown Oakland area. I was happy to be greeted and served very quickly, despite how busy it was even after the morning rush hour. There's plenty of seating outdoors, if all 4 tables are taken inside. You're out of the sun in the morning so there's still a nice cool breeze which is nice in the summertime. I ordered a cinnamon sugar crunch bagel with peanut butter spread and a hot tea for $3.45, can't beat that. Their minimum is $3 for credit cards and a bagel and a drink more than covers that, so no worries there. I'm someone who isn't a fan of overly sweet things and this bagel was just right for me. There is just the right about of cinnamon that you can taste it with every bite and there isn't too much sugar on top. Also, they put the perfect amount of PB where it's not oozing out from the back or the sides every time you take a bite, I hate when that happens. They ask if you want crunchy or smooth which is nice too. If you get the lemon tea, and see that your it turns into a red color, don't be alarmed, I felt the same way. I wanted to try to take a picture to show, but the lighting makes it look too dark. Regardless, definitely try it out! It still tastes like lemon tea and it's so soothing. If you're also vegan and looking for a bagel sandwich they have options for you too! I will definitely be back!

I love this place. The bagels are fresh and you're never waiting longer than 5 minutes for your order. Its a clean & efficient, but I've never actually seen people staying and eating in here, though there's no reason one couldn't. The best bagel hands down is the jalapeño with cheddar. They use red jalapeños with a great deal of heat. The cream cheeses are made fresh on site with good ingredients. I like savory/ onionyfood and their scallion cream cheese makes any bagel a 10. Service is matter of fact and friendly.

Delicious and fast breakfast, served up cheap? I'm in! Plus, the folks behind the counter are very sweet! I usually get a toasted wheat sesame, with egg (it comes scrambled) and cheese (many on offer, I recommend the pepper jack) and if I am feeling saucy, I get it with bacon, too. Basically, for less than four bucks, I get a super filling, very tasty and delightfully warm breakfast, and I have never had to wait more than a minute or three to get in, get fed and get out. I keep meaning to come by for lunch, but I work odd hours and sometimes do not take a break for food until after they have closed for the day. I appreciate the hot tea and cold beverage selection as well. There is space outside for eating, or you can enjoy the coziness of a few indoor tables, but I have not stuck around for longer than order-get-go.

This is going to be one of the most convenient places of your life if you work in City Center since this cute little shop is situated right off the Oakland 12th street Bart station in the middle of the City Center. Service is extremely prompt and friendly (literally walking in here makes me smile a bit because everyone behind the counter is so nice!) and I'm in and out of here in under 5 minutes even if there are people ahead of me! I adore this place so much. I would recommend the Jalapeño cheddar bagel with cream cheese (I'm guilty of ordering this 3 times in the last 4 days since I discovered this place). I didn't even know I liked jalapeños before this. Maybe I still don't. But THIS combination is amazing. They always ask if you want it toasted which I think is cute. I obviously always say yes and I would recommend you do so too! Chocolate chip with cream cheese is also good if you're looking for something sweet. Their breakfast bagel with egg and cheese is also delicious. I have yet to try one of their sandwiches, but they've got these cute buy 9 get 1 free stamp cards that are seriously a great deal. At around $6 for a bagel sandwich, they've got extremely competitive prices!

Order an egg salad sandwich on a jalapeno cheddar bagel -- and without any additions, you've got egg salad, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, sprouts, red onions, pickles, AND peperoncini. Plus there are the jalapenos and the cheese baked onto the top of the bagel. Best $4.65 full meal deal in downtown Oakland, no contest.

They no longer take phone orders for less than 3 sandwiches. Wow... More business than they can handle apparently.

Great for breakfast and surprisingly good for lunch! I tried the chicken breast club on a bagel and it was packed with sprouts, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber. A great steal for about $5! During the lunch rush it takes a bit of time, but nothing outrageous. Try the asiago spinach bagel!

Cinnamon Sugar Crunch Bagel - YUMMM! I had to stop by and get another one before I start eating low carbs. But after reading "Valerie R's" review, I may have to start watching my carbs after I try a chocolate chip! The place can get pretty busy in the morning. When I get off Bart it's in a convenient location as I make my way to work. The coffee is pretty good too. For $3.50 (total), I get a delicious bagel with cream cheese & small cup of coffee.

I come here for lunch when I want a quick sandwich or bagel. They have a variety of bagels to choose from. I love their rolls that they use for the sandwiches especially the asiago roll. This place is good if you are on the go or looking for something quick. I came here a few days ago and ordered the Chicken salad sandwich with everything. I noticed that the sandwich barely had any chicken salad and I was a little disappointed. I've ordered their Chicken Salad sandwich before with only cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce. They put a little more chicken salad in the sandwich. I guess I won't be adding everything to my sandwich since they will be skimpy on the chicken salad. To me it's a little sad, but their bread is legit. The prices are reasonable and the sandwiches are filling. Don't get me wrong, i'm not knocking this place at all. As you can see I gave them 4 stars. If they provided more meat on their sandwiches, this place would definitely be 5 stars imo.

Excellent customer service, high quality food. Get the eggwich deluxe with 2 extra slices of cheddar cheese on a buttered pumpernickel bagel and die in gustatory heaven!

Employee cant follow instructions. Asked that bagel be kept whole and not cut in half after cream cheese added. Employee nods as in understanding. Bagel gets cut in half anyway. Save yourself some work next time.

You motherf*****s ruined my lunch plans! I figured, I'd get one bagel, go to my meeting, then head out to lunch. Got a Jalapeño Bagel w/ Cream Cheese, killed it, and started walking to my meeting. WTF?! Why am I walking back? Got another jalapeño bagel w/ cream cheese and after finishing it, I had to force myself to gtfo of there before I spent the next hour binge-eating these goddamn jalapeño bagels!

I miss working in Oakland if not only for the plethera of breakfast options steps from the BART station. When I treat myself to a ring of carby goodness, I want it to taste amazing. And Bagel Street gave me that. They had plenty of flavors, all their bagels were fresh, the service was fast, and the coffee was reliably good. Yum.

After working in downtown Oakland for several months, I have found this cafe to be one of the best places to stop for lunch. The quality of the breads and bagels is excellent. They are just the right texture crispy on the outside soft and heavily on the inside. For lunch I sometimes get one of those sandwiches, & I always find that it is hearty and filling in spite of the very competitive prices. There is a ton of flavor in their food. I once ordered a tuna salad for lunch and even the tuna fish tasted great. I would also like to add that the staff is very professional and friendly. They have great customer service and they really care about giving you a good experience. My personal favorites are the veggie avocado sandwich and the chicken Caesar salad. With the chicken Caesar salad you get a nice helping of dark greens with tasty tender chicken great dressing and also a nice little piece of bread. The surrounding cafes are pretty pricey and this place has great food and great prices by comparison.

Bagel Street Cafe had plenty of bagel so brought a few peerless coffee also avilable, skipped, too late in the day bagel eats: salt, garlic, sourdough. -bagels tasted breadlike, not a lot of flavor -bagel huge, good price .95 2.5 stars crumbs: -fast, friendly service -saw potato salad, tempted but passed.

My office got some bagels and cream cheese from here. I really loved the garlic cream cheese on the jalapeno cheddar bagel. The other cream cheeses we had--walnut, veggie, chive--weren't wonderful...the chive one smelled good though. I'd go back for the garlic cream cheese alone.

Open your sandwich to check the freshness of the contents. My salmon was brown and mushy. When I brought it to the counter person's attention she said that is how it looks "at the back". I politely informed her that mushy brown salmon is old salmon ! Chances are they buy it at Costco where it is farm raised and packaged with colored cardboard. Fine, just don't serve it to me 2 weeks after you bought it. I was not offered a credit or another bagel. Good customer service could have compensated for my annoyance but they made no effort to address the situation or to keep a customer satisfied.

For $2.35 you can get a bagel sliced, toasted, and slathered with plain cream cheese. Now, that's what I call a good deal. Service was fast which is great as it's conveniently located in the City Center Plaza; a short walk from the Bart 12th street station and on my way to work.

Just picked up my lunch from here and they completely screwed it up. Asked for turkey cheese tomato and lettuce on a bagel. "No mayo or mustard?" No thank you. "You sure?" I'm sure. Blobs of mayo and mustard all over my sandwich. Can't taste anything but them (and what a horrible combination) Seriously, it was a very simple order. Thanks for ruining my lunch.

I'm torn between giving this place three or four stars. It's become my "go to" place for breakfast when I had to skip breakfast and rush to work. They're good and I go there often, but it's only bagels (and sandwiches). Is that worth four stars? If not that, then I can't complain about the prices. For a regular bagel and cream cheese, you're only paying $2. That's a small price to pay to hold you over until lunch, though sometimes I throw in a hard boiled egg or two (40 cents each). If you want flavored cream cheese, it'll cost (don't quote me) an extra 25 cents. They have a pretty good selection of bagels, too, though toasted bagels should be standard rather than them always asking, but you can't fault them for making sure people get bagels the way they want. If you want to pay more than $2, there's a quite breakfast and lunch options to choose for your bagel, but I'm happy with the standard bagel. They also have bagel sandwiches. I tried one and, at just under $5, it's competitively priced with a sandwich from any deli. I liked it. I got a punch card (tenth sandwich free), but I don't know if I'd order enough sandwiches from them to ever get that free sandwich when there are so many other lunch options in the area I've no complaints with customer service; they do their job. I'm not the kind of person who expects someone to be overly excited to take my order. I go there to give them money in return for food; I don't need fake smiles to enjoy my meal. I'd recommend this place if you're in the area and looking for a quick breakfast or snack to hold you over until you can get a real meal inside of you. It's a bagel shop so you really can't expect more than bagels and bagels are pretty hard to get wrong.

Nice, quick place to grab breakfast. $2.50 for a bagel and cream cheese. I like getting the Asiago bagel with Garlic and Herb cream cheese or Sun Dried Tomato and Garlic cream cheese. A sandwich on a roll is only $4.95 and enough for a meal and late afternoon snack.

Seeing as I come here every single morning, whether on my way into work or during my morning break, I figured I better update my review, especially since this place has managed to take my business away from Starbucks! I've got to correct what I've said in my last review about the chocolate chip bagel since it's what I end up ordering every morning! It could be that my tastes are changing...I actually really like the fact that it isn't overbearingly sweet and chocolatey; the little nuggets of chocolate that you get with each bite are just right. Sometimes, I'm early enough that I get to order right when I see them taking the bagels fresh out of the oven, and that's the best thing ever!! The cinnamon sugar crunch bagel also has the right amount of sweetness when I tried it earlier this week. Their chocolate croissant is also really delicious as well, but slightly different from what I'm used to with pain au chocolat from a boulangerie or pâtisserie. The chocolate inside seems to be more of a soft mousse as opposed to the slim bars of chocolate that are simply melted inside, but it doesn't detract from the flavor at all. It'll probably be something that I'll order more of if I ever see that they've run out of chocolate chip bagels. Their Peerless coffee is excellent!! I really like the fact that their coffee comes from a family-owned company based in Oakland. It feels great to support locals. And you definitely get your money's worth since a large coffee costs around the same as a tall at Starbucks. The staff are always really friendly (doesn't feel forced, as mentioned in other reviews), and I've been coming in so often that they know what my usual order is. In all honesty, I have no complaints at all, and I've visited enough times to vouch for their quality. 5 stars!

I loved this place off the bat because they deliver their bagels! However, when my bacon, egg, and cheese on a jalepeno cheddar bagel showed up the center of the egg looked grey. I'm not sure why it was grey, but I instantaneously lost my appetite. The bagel was tasty, but a little grainy. And did not make up for the funny colored egg. I might order again just because they are a delivery breakfast place, I just will not be ordering eggs. Just a tip- delivery minimum is much lower on Eat24 than Seamless.

Time of day: 8:30amish Staff: Morning friendly vibe but only doing because they're ask to. Cleanliness: Well kept bagle and bread shop tables have little debris left from previous customer (not a big deal). Eats: Wholewheat bagle with swiss cheese and poach eggs. Very tasty when it's hot and fresh. Products: Mostly bagles here can order plain toasted or have it your way prices will be added according to what you have. They also carry to-go salads, wraps, chips, sodas, tea, coffee in the self serve fridge. Expectations: Not much to expect just a place to stop by when you're in a rush average shop.

A great variety of bagel sandwiches and at a good price! I never thought of having a bagel for lunch, but being that its one of the few locations nearby my workplace that offers food I gave it a shot. I was impressed at the variety of bagels that they did offer and also the different things that you can have with a bagel. My mornings consisted of having a Cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese and what I love about this place is that it's so quick and they are always so friendly. The jalapeno bagel is always good with egg and cheese and the price for the two different kinds of bagels is not so bad at all since they really do fill me up. They have this great bagel sandwich called the bay street bagel sandwich and I believe that is the one that has avocado in it and they usually ask me if i want everything in and obviously i don't hesitate to say YES! The sandwich that they bring in front of me is nothing but delicious and sooooo big. They have this awesome little card that if it gets stamped i believe more then 8-10 times then your next sandwich is free. I am happy to have this bagel shop so close to my workplace because its one of those shops that if I am not sure what I want to eat...this place saves me time and also satisfies my taste buds.

So, I would give this place at least 3.5 stars if not for my experiences here. The bagels alone are worth 3 stars. They're nice and chewy and big. The sun-dried tomato garlic cream cheese is good. My family loves when I bring home a big paper bag full of bagels and cream cheeses. I have begun to feel ripped off when purchasing that big bag of bagels from Bagel Street Cafe. For $15.65 you can get a Baker's Dozen,a plain cream cheese and flavored cheese. Not a bad price. BUT- a baker's dozen here will only fetch you 12 bagels. The first few of times I didn't question this when I bought my bag 'o bagels. But this time, as the holidays near and my penny-pincher sub-conscience starts whispering to me; I questioned them. I told them their menu is a little misleading if a customer only receives 12 bagels. The woman immediately got defensive with me. She told me she knew the history, blah, blah, blah. I asked another person behind the counter and he agreed it was only 12. Meanwhile, 2 other employees are transfixed on the menu trying to figure out where it says baker's dozen. I pointed it out to them and they too told me that yes, it's only 12 bagels. I swear, they almost had me wondering if I was wrong. I continued to let the woman ring me up as we argued about it. She was really peeved when I told her to #googleit. So, still annoyed about being cheated outta my 13th bagel for the 4th time, I decided to call other random Bagel Street Cafe locations and inquire about how many bagels come in their baker's dozens. All four locations told me 13!!! This is the menu for the Martinez location which clearly states you get 13 bagels. bagelstreetcafe.net/imag… Bagel Street Cafe makes some tasty bagels. Unfortunately, this location will always short you on your bakers dozen! Baker's Dozen $8.50 Plain cream cheese $1.75 Flavored cream cheese $2.25

I chose Bagel Street Café Oakland ( bagelstreetcafe.net/loca… ) because they have indoor seating (they also have outdoor seating). I found vegetarian options on the menu. I chose the Veggie Avocado sandwich on an asiago cheese bagel roll for less than 5 bucks, made to order. The guy kindly listed all the ingredients, so I could exclude the onions and pepperoncini. They have healthy drink options, and I chose the V8. They also have Naked and Odwalla smoothies, in addition to the usual teas, sodas, and coffee. This made for an economical lunch, including tip. The sandwich was big, fluffy and tasty with crisp, fresh ingredients, served on a wicker plate. I'm new to the area, and will definitely be making this a regular lunch stop. The atmosphere is special because they are genuinely friendly and make you feel appreciated.

This simple little coffee and bagel shop belongs in a BART terminal because they have tasty treats and fast service. I went here from my volunteer job in the afternoon and the guy immediately greeted me at the door. When I pointed to the bear claw, he picked it up and with efficiency and finesse. He then bagged it, processed my two bucks, and gave me goods and the change with a flash. 6-4-3 double play. This is the kind of service you want on 10 minute breaks.

It's the small things: putting napkins in your bag. (Some places forget, but not this one.) Also, helping the next customer in line, while the other worker helps the other customer pay so the line moves faster. This place is also cheaper than Noah's Bagel. :)

As a native New Yorker, it takes a lot for me to give a 5-star review to a bagel place outside of the tri-state area. But over the course of a week in Oakland, this became my go-to breakfast spot. The bagels had a good amount of chew (just like their cousins on the east coast), the shmears were tasty, and the service was fast and friendly. The egg sandwiches were also pretty good. And... everything was pretty darn cheap. Be OG - don't order your bagel toasted!

I feel it's only fair to update my review of this cafe. Since May 25, I returned to find a completely different attitude on the part of the staff. Maybe they read the Yelp reviews and decided to do some fine-turning? The staffer said hello to me when I walked in (a first) and was very helpful. Since then I've been back another time and again the staffer was very helpful and friendly.

My favorite place to go in City Center when I'm at work and I need lunch! I always get a turkey sandwich on a parmesan cheese bagel, no onions, no bean sprouts, and no tomato. The staff is friendly and fast, and I like how they have so many options! You can get fruit salad, muffins, hard boiled eggs, green tea smoothies, and more! I also like how they have a buy 10 get 1 free sandwich card. I probably will finish that card pretty soon. The food is affordable and fresh, and I enjoy coming here rather than say, Panda Express, Popeyes, or all that MSG-ridden chain food. :P

They consistently have delicious, cheap bagels, fresh fruit, quick service, and a friendly demeanor every single time. They have a large selection of bagels, and for less than $2, you can get a bagel with cream cheese, honey butter, schmear, lox or whatever your heart desires at any time of the work day. Note: they take credit cards, but the minimum is $3.

This place is great! Good selection of bagels and different ways to have them! They have a variety of cream cheeses, many different types of sandwiches and breakfast sandwich options. The staff is really nice, too. I always go with a turkey sandwich on a jalapeno cheddar bagel!

Bagel Street Cafe is just easy. It's right near work, super fast, and I can order the same thing every time with unwavering consistency. It's nothing super fancy, but they've got a decent combo-bagel (maybe not noah's standards, but definitely beats store-bought) with cheddar and perfectly microwaved egg. Embrace the microwaved egg. It's surprisingly fluffy, and one of few ways to get hot breakfast in a mug in less than a minute. The staff is pleasant, and I can walk out with a decent lunch for less than five bucks. They've got fancier sandwiches if that's your thing, I just ain't a fancy gal.

I was going to go back to the Fountain Cafe next door for the cheap, $1 coffee. But then I remembered a fellow Yelper's review about how this used to be a Noahs' Bagels. While I never liked Noah's whole wheat bagels, I did like their gourmet bagels. I'm glad to see that the Bagel Street Cafe has kept much of my old favorites as well as standbys. Asiago. Jalapeno. Oat Bran. NY Rye. Sesame. Poppy. Plain. I think they have 30 different flavors. They also have a few pastries. They also have lunchtime sandwiches and breakfasttime bagelwiches. While the small coffee here might not be $1, altogether, my toasted jalapeno cheddar bagel with plain cream cheese and a small coffee comes out to a few bucks. $5 + change gives me a filling breakfast over 2 days here (as well as it would in the cafe next door). 4 tables inside; a few outside if you like the shade.

When the bill rang up to only 3.20 for my medium coffee and bagel with cream cheese, I asked the cashier if she remembered to charge me for my coffee. When I heard her response, I was pleasantly thrilled! I'm so used to paying at least 5 bucks for my bagel and coffee. Peerless coffee was delicious as always. My salt bagel was pretty good for a salt bagel, not the best bagel I've ever had, but pretty good!

I stopped in one morning for a bagel and tea. My multi grain bagel was toasted perfectly and the sundried tomato cream cheese was flavorful. The price was right and I left only a few dollars lighter. They were running low on hot water in their self serve area but a staff person quickly filled my cup for me. It was a beautiful morning so I snagged a small table outside and got some work done before heading on to my meeting nearby.

I'm pretty much a fan of all things blueberry, so I get my fair share of blueberry muffin cravings. So even though this place was a bagel place, I still ended up getting a blueberry muffin because it was staring back at me through the glass. Blueberry Muffin. I liked that it was made with fresh blueberries rather than the canned or otherwise preserved ones. It was also relatively light for a muffin, less buttery and cakey than usual which my waistline definitely appreciated. It was a little on the expensive side though, $1.60 for a medium sized muffin, so I ended up eating 1/3 of it for breakfast and the rest of it for lunch. I do wish they had put more blueberries in it though because that was the sole reason for my muffin craving. 3 stars because -1 star for price and -1 star for lack of blueberries. I think I will try their bagels next, after reading all the good reviews on Yelp about their bagels.

Burned bagel. :( But this has never happened before, so I'll always go back. However, upon actually eating it, I found that the entire surface was burned black! I know that they must have seen this when spreading the cream cheese, so why did they still serve it to me?! But like I said, this was a first.

Their bagels are awesome! Chewy and taste. They are worth the money and are a decent size. I'll have to contain myself and treat myself here once in awhile :)

I had their bagels for four days straight while visiting Oakland to take the CA Bar Exam. The price was great and the food was AMAZING. I believe they make their own bagels. The bagels are large and they come in ton of different types (i.e. wheat with sesame seeds; multi grain; spinach and cheese; and a bunch I can't remember). I had the egg and cheese bagel and they added tomato and lettuce which made a heartier meal. Also their drip coffee is excellent! I had their hazelnut and their vanilla. This place is a must try!

Sundried Tomato toasted w/ cream cheese for $2! I want to try the Spinach Asiago and Jalapeno Cheddar... mmm I'm hungry... The bagel was pretty large too so I was really happy about that :) It's conveniently located in the plaza right outside of 12th St./Oakland City Center bart station. For anyone who commutes to the Oakland City Center area on a regular basis, they are a must-try!

I stop into Bagel Street Cafe for their Eggwich Bagel anytime that I have to run to the ATM in the CIty Center compound of craziness. There are soooo many food options in this warren of hole in the wall eateries, that picking the wheat from the chaf is difficult at best. I have always found Bagel Street to be just about right, their service is extremely fast, having waited at some spots for basically the same sandwich up to 15 minutes, at Bagel Street, I have never been there more than 3 - 4 minutes. The price is just about right, $3.95 for a fresh fluffy bagel, a good inch worth of nuked egg, a slab of ham and a slice of cheese. The people who work there are usually friendly, although, sometimes they seem to be in more of a frenzied rush then the patrons on hand would seem to dictate. But at 10:00am, when breakfast has worn off, and lunch is still a ways away, and the hunger bug is trying to burst out of my chest like an alien hatching, nothing hits the spot like a hot eggwich that I can be sure will be delivered hot, fresh, and under 5 minutes. I'll keep going back as long as they keep the goodness coming.

I loveeee this place! Since I work right across the street from the city center I usually run over there in the morning to get one of their eggwhich bagels which are delicious and super affordable! Everything in this place is reasonably priced and fresh and delicious! I have had their sandwhiches before which you can get on a bagel or a bagel roll and they are soooo yummy! Not to mention the service is amazing! Every time I have been they greet me AS SOON as I step in the door! They always greet their customers right away and are super quick in making your food. My fave little discovery in the city center by far! I will def continue to come here for breakfast and lunch!

I'm kind of a fan. They make breakfast bagels pretty much any time. That can be a very good thing. I'm often in the mood for breakfast at 2 when I'm at work. Seriously. It's in an old Noah's, I think, and it hews pretty close to that as far as bagels are concerned. Two thumbs up from me.

How am I going to be the 3rd person in line and wait 10 minutes and NOT even have my order taken for BREAKFAST in the CITY CENTER at a BAGEL SHOP? This, while I see four people working behind the counter. Please be aware that you are in perhaps the busiest and most crowded business district in Oakland. Let the efficiency in your service match your environment. I love breakfast bagels, but sorry, you lose for now. I'd almost rather wakl 8 blocks to Aroma Cafe on 19th and Franklin. There? Best. Service. Ever.
