Attended the annual chili cook-off and was disappointed, maybe not in the bar, but in the event itself. FOCUS! This review is on the bar, not on the sub-par chili that was cold and tasted of cinnamon. Bleh. Cool: -neat little bar that could be considered "divey", great barstool area at the bar for quick service. Has a "vintage" feel to it, the beers are kept in an ice box and the decor could easily put you in a time warp. -newly added patio, great for sitting outside if you're a smoker. Covered with umbrellas. -started accepting debit/credit cards--- used to be a cash-only bar. Not Cool: -the "bartender" who waited on me did not know how to make a margarita. What? are you kidding me? This is a joke, right? Sadly, no. She had to wait for the other bartender to make it for me. This amateur hour has got to go-- if all you can do is pour a beer with too much head and pop a top on a can for me, you don't deserve to get paid. -run-of-the-mill sub-par mixed drinks. I get that a business has to watch their liquor pour, but the combination of what tasted like 99-cent store Sweet and Sour and watery tequila was NOT working for me. Upgrade the mixers or pour a stronger drink. -re-using glassware. After finishing my margarita, I ordered another and didn't get a new glass. Not that big of a deal, except I didn't get salt on the second marg because of the re-use. Also, I feel like it's just a courtesy. New glass, new ice, new drink. I'm happy Rancher Bar has reopened and seems to be updating to modern standards (IE accepting debit/credit cards). But has to update even further to be considered a local hot spot. Do they even sell bar snacks?? Hmm...
