I had a wonderful meal by a great group of people. Renata, my waitress made sure all of my needs were taken care of. Kolter, the sushi chef made delicious sushi rolls presented beautifully. Finally the supervisor Rigo was always greeting customers and making sure our eating experience was nothing short of great. Loved it, and will be back soon!

Everything was great from the hostess to our server, Linda to our hibachi cook, kasey! We got the Wise Sushi roll and chicken hibachi! Definitely recommend both!

Went for my daughter's birthday. Two different cooks, food was inconsistent, flavor was bland, and service was spotty. Unfortunately not as good as it used to be before the changes. Staff was very immature and lazy without any sense of urgency. Not friendly or welcoming.

My sister's boyfriend recommended that we eat at Sakura for our overnight stay in Flagstaff. There are a few reasons why Sakura only gets three stars instead of four. When we first arrived, I asked if they could clean the teppanyaki cook top and utensils since I only eat fish (pescatarian). This turned into a little bit of a production for the hostess, but we eventually got seated at our own grill--the hostess insisted on telling me three times that it was not used yet that evening at all. We were very appreciative and were seated across from a full table. Our server was a bit of a different story. He seemed to have a problem with us from the get-go (or maybe that was just his over all attitude), but he spent infinitely more time with the table across from us and catered to them exponentially compared to how we were treated. He didn't even bring us our rice (our teppanyaki chef brought it out for us later)! I asked our server if we could use the Yelp $5 off of $15 or more. He told us to hold on while he went and got his manager. I'm pretty sure he rolled his eyes. Anyway, to make a long story short, we waited for 15 minutes for the manager to come to our table. He didn't. Our server cane back and asked us if it was from Yelp. When I confirmed this, our server said, "my manager says it's ok, I guess." Tip to the restaurant: don't make a customer wait that long to speak with a manager and then never have him show up. That's rude. Our teppanyaki chef, Eric, made up for it. He was nice, personable, and chatty. Our dish (the Mahi Mahi) was tasty and just filling enough! He even brought out our rice for us that we tried to flag our waiter down for twice (he saw us, he just turned his head the other way and sped by). I wish we could have put all of our tip towards Eric! He was so amazing and happy to help! Our server just sucked. I would be willing to try Sakura again if we got a different server.

The food was amazing at very good prices. The staff were really friendly as well. We ordered a million rolls and I would have to say that the Snake Roll is to die for! The menu is designed for Sushi lovers so we had no problems knowing what we were getting. The staff was really helpful letting us know what rolls we didn't recognize, which were their house rolls. The best sushi joint in town :)
(5)Jennifer M.
Worst teppanyaki I have had. Way too salty! Service was below average.. Seems very disorganized and show was sloppy.
(1)Huyen N.
The sushi at my local Fry's supermarket was better than this place. Was disappointed in the sushi. We ordered about ten different rolls. There was not one that I liked.

We really love this place and have gone many times when in flagstaff... The service is excellent, and the teppanyaki chefs are really fun and funny, they interact with the table quite a bit. It's great for both kids and adults, and they've always been happy to accommodate every group size we've had from 2 to 12. The prices are a little high compared to other more casual restaurants, but no more so than your average teppanyaki place. We have always just walked in before and been able to get a table without a reservation, but I guess they must be getting really popular, because it was about an hour wait without a reservation this past weekend. But, good for them, obviously the food is good enough to keep folks coming back :-)

This place is so good :) if you want something good and enjoyable then I would come here.
(5)Matt R.
There was nothing redeeming about our sushi experience. Maybe the fish freshness was decent but the rolls were so bland and flavorless one could hardly tell. Maybe we wouldn't have noticed that our service was so bad and rude if the good sushi wasn't tasteless but alas that just complicated things. If you see yourself headed to this place go a few blocks to Hiros or dt to Karma instead.

Not impressed. They try hard at service which is great. However, the kitchen and front end are not on the same page. Food is ok to good. Missing details such as the soy sauce and Wasabi dipping bowls. Totally missed the personal experience. It just seems as if the waiters are there to take your orders and hand you your food. They probably lost money on sales due to lack of attention They need to work on their timing as most of my party ate before us. Just not impressed. I would eat here again if this was my only choice. Otherwise look around. The team of Renata and Francisco are great. But overall this team needs to regroup and spend some time with the guests. Thank you. Chris

Those who know sushi will be disappointed. First of all they use plain rice for their rolls and nigiri which made the sushi taste bland. Who makes sushi rice without rice vinegar or sugar? The second issue was with the expedition of the food. There seemed to be a disconnect between the front and the back of the house. We were a party of 8 and our food came out at varying times. For example some of us got our appetizers at the end of the meal or we got something that wasn't ordered. For the most part the staff did a nice job compensating for the delays and wrong orders but after a while it became frustrating.
(2)Teresa H.
I'm not sure how good the sushi is in the Flagstaff area, but this was very disappointing. We are passing through from southern California to Albuquerque, and were pleasantly surprised to find a sushi restaurant in our hotel-very convenient! Unfortunately the meal was quite terrible. The nigiri was tough and tasteless, the hand rolls were very small and lacking in substance. I can't believe how little scallop there was is the spicy scallop hand roll. The spider roll was overly sweet, it was soggy with sauce. I'm hoping that this is not the best Flagstaff has to offer. I may just be too far from the ocean...

This used to be the Radisson, now it's the Doubletree. The teppanyaki is unchanged, but employees seem to have lost their enthusiasm. Teppanyaki done properly is as much performance as it is cooking, and our chef barely smiled, the flaming onion and other "showtime" fire fun were delivered with no exuberance, no excitement whatsoever. As it was, the filet and shrimp were good, not great, but the real problem was in filling our orders. Everyone at our table of 8 who ordered steamed rice failed to receive it until it was pointed out to them after the meal was finished. No apology, no free drink for our trouble, nothing. I ordered a second beer and it took 15 min to receive it. In fairness, the restaurant was busy, but many people became impatient waiting for what appeared to be 2 overwhelmed chefs working 6 tables of 8. Teppanyaki should be fun, not morose, and I can only give 3 stars for the calamity of errors we experienced tonight.
(3)Shelby S.
Cherise, our waitress, saved this restaurant from a very bad review with her very good attitude. I know Sakura is the only joint in town for hibachi, but that doesn't mean it has to double as the setting for every 80s movie. It is in need of a MAJOR remodeling. The front staff hostesses are so very rude and annoying. They sat a walk-in before our reservation which does not make for a happy planner.

Been here four times before leaving feedback. Grills are a little out dated, chefs try hard but need to mix things up a little more, restaurant could use a good cleaning, and for the first time we got a chef that had to run two grills at one time...this simply doesn't work. He tried hard but it prolonged an already long night. Food is good, in fact the food is really good. I have to question cross contamination because our chef used the same utensils to prepare raw chicken as he did for beef, shrimp, and vegetables. Never saw him sterilize between products. Its cooking 101 to keep raw chicken away from just about everything else. He was far too busy with the two grills to care about anything like that. we visited Saturday the 15th. This restaurant will be our occasional place and not a regular choice until some improvements are made. Nice staff up front but seem a little under trained. They turn nearly 100% of their walk in traffic away. It's happened to us. We watched as they turned away at least 20 walk ins. They had two empty grills for well over an hour and never used one all night. We are local and get asked all the time where is a good place to eat, we reluctantly recommend based on these things.

The gf and I made a trip to the Grand Canyon and decided to stay in Flagstaff for a busy city ambiance. We woke up late from a nap around 830 and decided to try the in-hotel restaurant, Sakura. Thankfully they were still taking guests, and we were seated at the teppen grill. Our chef was amazing, as he put on a very good show, I didn't get his name but posted a photo of him cooking. Our server was quick and attentive, and got out drinks out fast and strong. Next time I am in Flagstaff, I'll be sure to make another visit!

First visit to Flagstaff and doing an event in the hotel which houses Sakura. I had a choice to sit at the American side of the house or the Japanese, and I opted for the Japanese, not knowing what I would be able to choose outside of Sushi. I love Sushi, but am not overly adventurous with my choices. Since I'm eating pretty strictly Paleo, I decided to go with Teppanyaki - not ever experiencing it before. I wish I could remember the name of the Chef -- who was entertaining, but his food was better than the entertainment, and I enjoyed the "floor show". I ordered the scallops, chicken and steak with vegetables. Absolutely delicious! Skipped the fried rice, although it looked and smelled divine. I had a lecture that night, so had to eat in a hurry and take half of my plate home with me. Heated it up the next day for lunch and it too was yummy. I loved that the Chef asked me how I wanted my steak done and cooked it to my order -- more rare than done. I can't stand overcooked beef. Mine was perfect. My only wish is that I could have gone back for Sushi and more Teppanyaki during my stay, but my schedule didn't allow it. Every time I walked by the restaurant, the delicious fragrance kept tempting me -- it was very pleasant and taunted me. When I return to Flagstaff next year, I hope my Chef is still there!

My first teppanyaki. It was good! For being in a hotel, the food was actually very nice. We got the pot stickers and the spicy tuna sushi for appetizers. The pot stickers were frozen and flash deep fried. Actually get better from the grocery store. Prefer mine pan fried. Asked for soy sauce twice for the sushi, never got it. The sushi itself was inedible. The soup was cold, chicken broth with a few scallions and egg. Salad was lettuce with a ton of ginger orange dressing, which tasted good. The amount of food for the price was amazing. I ordered the chicken and steak combo, was given full portions of chicken and steak. My partner got the the grille entree. He got 5 scallops, a whole stream, and a while chicken breast! The sauces were your normal sweet and salty store bought marinades. Tons of good, fresh veggies, as well as decent fried rice. Had Tony as a chef, he wasawesome. Again, for being a hotel restaurant, well worth it.

We had reservations and we got there 10 minutes early. We waited and waited for over 20 minutes after which we asked when we would be seated. First, they said that they were a bit busy, so they were running late even though half the restaurant was empty. It's when we pointed that out that they acknowledged the real truth that they were short of cooking staff and would seat us as soon as possible with no commitments as to when that would happen. We waited a few more minutes and then we left. What we found particularly unacceptable was the unapologetic attitude of the staff. I find it hard to believe that they did not know of their staffing problems when they took the reservations,... but they took it any way thinking that we would just wait and wait. They need to learn that a customer's time is valuable and they should not assume it is theirs to exploit for free.

Great food! Nice people, if you are looking for a restaurant with an Asian atmosphere this is not the place. Would definatly recommend for any one looking for sushi in flagstaff!

I am not a big fan of teppanyaki restaurants but my husband and I decided to give this place a try while staying at the Radisson. Not a good decision. The hostess was stressed and disorganized and so even though there was an empty table we ended up sitting a while out in the waiting area. Then more waiting after being seated as they tried to fill the table. Fortunately we ordered some pot sticker appetizers and a couple beers so we were not starving. But sitting at the table was not a comfortable experience, we were at one closest to the back wall which felt very cramped and the tables and chairs felt really grimy, understandable I guess due to the greasy smoke that filled the room. Every other hibachi place I have ever been to has been much more well ventilated and open so that you didn't feel like you were stuck in tire factory that's on fire. It just wasn't someplace I wanted to hang out and so I was itching to leave before the chef even came over. Chef was a real nice guy but it was only his second week on the job so he admitted right off the bat that he couldn't do any of the cool tricks the the other chefs could. That was not a problem for me since I had watched enough of the show at other tables and by that point I just wanted to eat. I agree with the other reviewers that the soup was an odd combo of miso and egg-drop and the dressing on the salad was not palatable. The worst part about the meal for me was that my meat was horribly overcooked and I was trapped there in the corner forced to watch as a perfectly good piece of steak sizzled and smoked into a charred mess. When I commented to the chef that it was a bit overdone my husband promptly chimed in that I had asked for it well done. I love it how he's always on my side (she added sarcastically).. but he was eating his words (and some jerky) as I offered him a bite from my plate. The hubby's meat was much more palatable so I shared with him a bit but pretty much stopped eating after I noticed that his shrimp had not been deveined. There is really just no excuse for that at a restaurant, especially one where you are paying $40+ pp. Service aside from the chef was extremely brusque and everyone from the busers to the bartender seemed like they just really did not want to be there. I don't know if it was just a rough night in the middle of tourist season or what. If I were staying at the hotel again, I would just eat at the lobby bar or order room service if I was unwilling/unable to leave the hotel for dinner.

You know for the price you expect more. Sakura is too expensive for the class of service you recieve. Food is pretty amazing from the teppan table, but I have had better sushi at much better prices. Sometimes it is frustrating during slow times to wait for extended periods of time for them to light the teppan table. If it's slow, it is slow. I don't have all day to wait for crowds to arrive so they can cook more food on the one table. I can understand 10-15 minutes, but I have waited 1/2hour + before. Overall, if you're staying at the Radisson I would recommend it, but on a quick trip to Flag I wouldn't classify this place as a must stop.

Best Sushi in town bare none. I realize that the chef cannot have the same items as say in LA or SF due to the sushi customers really not knowing REAL sushi. So it is slightly limited. That said, the quality of the seafood is really good. Hideo is awesome and very friendly. We enjoyed his company! We do not eat rolls so I cannot say although I did see them and have had them once before. They are not ALL RICE like the others out there. Realize this people who eat rolls, they are not suppose to have hardly any rice in them. The more rice and crap the more you don't know sushi and are getting ripped off! Plain and simple. The Octopus and Squid Sashimi were fantastic. The yellowtail Sashimi was really good as well as the Mackerel. Oh and the scallops were pretty dang good too. We only order Nigiri, Sashimi and hand rolls most of the time. Hideo even brought out the real wasabi for us. What a treat! Love this place. Don't bother with the rest, not worth it. I can say this, it's all about timing. I only go for the sushi, not the show! There are many bad reviews here but it mainly is for the show. My suggestion go on a night when it is dead. Tuesday, Wed are a nice choice. Forget the weekend unless you want to wait and possibly not get as good service.

Our work group took a chance and went in for dinner...it was a half and half split on sushi and tepenyaki...they seated us on time and were attentive to our group. We ordered 7 different Maki rolls...all were fresh, tight and well-made. We left full and our group of 8 spent approx $200 which included drinks and tip at 20%...not bad for sushi. The tepenyaki was good, the cook was a little short on flair but did a sufficient job to keep everyone entertained. I would recommend and go again.
(4)Dexter M.
The hibachi here was great. I didn't expect to find good hibachi in Flagstaff of all places, so this was certainly a surprise. I would have given it 5 stars but the hostess was really rude and the place looked like it could use some reonnovations.
(4)Ed D.
Went there on a VERY busy Saturday night...the place was packed. When we walked up, we were told that without reservations, the soonest we could be seated was two hours away. The hostess said "Let me see what I can do" - and made room for us at the sushi bar. What an unbelievable treat! Busy as they were, we immediately struck up a conversation with the head sushi chef - Hedeo - and he was very helpful. One of their signature items on the menu is the Philadelphia (Philly) roll. I've had Philly rolls from just about every sushi restaurant from Yokohama to London, and I can tell you that the Sakura's Philly is the best. They start with their own special smoked salmon, and a delicate cream cheese filling. Wow - just wow! The rest of the meal was every bit as good as the Philly roll. Fresh fish, perfect rice, excellent service. Sit at the sushi bar - you won't go wrong!
(5)Maryanne M.
Long wait! Sushi and tempura was ok.
(2)Blaise G.
For it being one of the only Teppanyaki places in Flagstaff, I expected it to be a lot more packed!!! The food was done very well, most places douse their ingredients in oil, no clue why. Me and my lady started with a firecracker roll, which was awesome to begin our dining journey. I ordered the chicken and shrimp for my entree and it was hearty and yummy. One thing I wondered, what happen to all the tricks and flips? The food was great, but I know the whole experience has been made EVERYWHERE because of the talent and flare of the cooks. OVERALL, stellar job.

This is the first time I'm writing a restaurant review...the first time I ever felt the need to do so. I have been going to Sakura for many years and have brought along family and friends. Last Sunday, I brought a friend who has been there before and a friend who has never been there. The service was very disappointing, and I was embarrased for the friend who has never been there. I had been raving about the restaurant and Sunday's experience was nothing like what I told her. I am allergic to alcohol so I always make sure the server and chef know not to cook the calamari in wine. In previous years (I've been ordering the calamari for at least six years), the chef has cooked my calamari in the kitchen. On Sunday, however, the chef started to cook the calamari on the teppenyaki grill. I stopped him and reminded him that I cannot have wine. He apologized and had the calamari cooked in the kitchen. However, it took so long to cook that my friends had their food a good 10-15 minutes before I had mine. To make up for the lateness, the chef gave me a double order, but that did not really help. The chef also forgot the chicken for the people who sat next to us. We did not have a show....no tossing of knives, no friendly interaction with customers or the onion volcano. Not sure if the chef was new or having a bad day, but it's doubtful that I will return to Sakura again in the near future.

I have never been here before. I work across the street and with a group, we ventured over. My best friend really pushed me to try the sushi (never had ANY sushi before), so she selected the Tuna one. I was told to try it Wasabi. Last thing I associated Wasabi with is Steve-O "Wasabi Snorter" on Jackass, so I was hesitant. But I did it! Our Teppanyaki chef was very entertaining. He flipped veggies, flipped rice bowls and cracked jokes. He was super efficient, and clearly experienced. I kept it simple and ordered a chicken dish. So delicious! The prices were a little steep, but with the Yelp coupon, I found it reasonable. I will be returning in the near future and quite possibly make this a local haunt of mine!
(4)Cheryl W.
Food was great ! The service I felt was lacking . The waiter was really nice but took 34 mins to get a drink and put in order was about 42 mins . Sushi was very small and over priced . The Teppan-Yaki table food was very good ! Pretty big portions . If you are in a rush and hungry - don't suggest it . Half our table were traveling all day and very hungry and tired.
(3)Brett B.
I am always apprehensive about dining teppanyaki, ever since that time at IchiBan. You see, dear reader, I have a shellfish allergy. No, I didnt say I was selfish... looks like someone needs glasses So, any employee who made eye contact with me, was informed, in no uncertain terms, that I indeed had a shellfish allergy. Imagine my relief when the performer came out and addressed each person at the table, identifying me as the "anaphylactic shock man"... yes I am! He was cool, and cooked my foods first, before cooking up the shrimp and mussels. There was much production and fanfare. I got to sit next to an old lady! Kinda wish I tried the sushi Check in with Yelp, and get $5 off your tab! Yes! Go ahead, now you can order that more expensive entree! Yes, the one that is $5 more than you were willing to pay in the first place.
(3)Anne W.
Great Teppanyaki in Flagstaff. I highly recommend reservations since we went on friday night and had to make a reservation for saturday (so many people). It is attached to a hotel but you cannot even tell once in the restaurant. Everything is moderately priced (It is amazing and well worth it). The staff was helpful and friendly! I plan to go back when visiting Flagstaff.
(5)Nicolas W.
My sister and I sent to Sakura Sushi & Teppanyaki for my birthday and what a birthday it turned out to me. We were seated at one of the teppanyaki tables and the excellent service began immediately. But, we were in for a real treat when Chef Antonio came out. From the moment he started bringing his equipment out we knew we were in for a treat! Chef Antonio was very congenial, talking and joking with us while never losing his professionalism. Our meal was, of course, prepared with the appropriate amount of panache and flourish. The food was outstanding and the wine, although a "house" wine, was great. We cannot say enough about out first, but definitely not our last, experience here, and we shall ask for Chef Antonio every time we go in!
(4)Krystal L.
Went out for Monday dinner with a girlfriend and decided to get sushi! We had great service, the food was awesome, and I will definitely be taking my boyfriend here soon. The only thing I wish is that they maybe could have a full menu describing each sushi roll. *We were sat and gave a piece of paper where we wrote our order down but it doesn't let me know what specific ingredients are in the roll* Definitely would stay at the DoubleTree as well!
(4)Leah B.
I really like this place! While it's located in a hotel, locals still come here! the sushi and teppanyki are both stars. Check out the volcano roll or any of the specials of the day. I had a cucumber / octopus salad which was really good. The fish is really fresh even though we are no where near an ocean. The sushi chef was really nice too! And now on to the grill.....we've had Antonio both times- he is awesome. It's a show and a delicious dinner all in one. You can choose your seasonings on your meats, we enjoyed chicken, shrimp and scallops in teriyaki and spicy garlic. It is served with grilled mushrooms, zucchini and onions along with bean sprouts. You have the choice of steamed or fried rice, which is not as healthy but it tastes better ;) To start you are aLso served a side salad and small soup. It is surely too much food, but it's so good.

Originally I was going to rate it 3 or 4 stars until me & my father both have been sick throughout the night. Let's go over the whole night. Right from the get go, when we walked up the hostess stand and the hostess gave my dad sass & was sarcastic. When I'm already pretty hungry, her rude attitude didn't go well with me. After eventually getting seated, I was looking at the menu & we all decided pretty quickly on what we wanted, as on most tepan menus, it's pretty basic. All you have to do is just choose your selection of meat. Thankfully we had water waiting in front of us already. So we were having our thirst quenched as we waiting about 20 minutes for our waiter to come out, just to ask if we wanted anything. After placing our order, it was just like traditional tepan. The soup and salad came out before the chef came out. The soup & salad we're both good. Even though the slow waitress spilt the soup all over my moms (cracked) plate, without even apologizing might I add. Then the chef comes out. He tries impressing us, with him flipping the utensils. While doing so, the fork flew at my face giving me an almost heart attack, but what the heck accidents happen I guess. The food was decent and along with the chef. The chef seemed newer and was trying to impress the whole time, with the extra fire as if we were in a special effects show at Universal studios. Besides my eyebrows almost being burnt off, it was decent. Later that night me & my dad (who both got the shrimp) were sick all night and I am continuously sick this following morning. I guess I should've figured not to get something Seafood related, given we aren't exactly close to the sea.
(2)Jill B.
Second time I have been here and both times, food was great! Make reservations for teppanyaki - they seat people every 1/2 hr and we didn't want to wait this time. Sushi was fresh and good. Decor is a little dated but nobody probably noticed!
(4)Kelly M.
This is the worst restaurant I have been to in years! We were staying at the Radisson which is where Sakura is located and the front desk recommended it. I love sushi and tepenyaki and have been to many of these types of restaurants such as Kobe when I lived in Hawaii. Our experience at Sakura started out with bad service from a waiter who seemingly disappeared into thin air for 20 minutes at a time. We sat there for at least 15 minutes before the waiter came to take our drink orders and he didn't take any of the sushi orders at that time even though everyone had filled out the order sheets. We got our drinks after sitting there for another 15 minutes and then our waiter finally took the sushi order sheets but the sushi didn't come out for another 30 minutes. We got the miso soup about 45 minutes after we sat down and were starving by then. Unfortunately the miso soup had a foul taste with egg drop in it that reminded me of slimy tissue strips. The salad came out quicker but was drowned in so much ginger dressing it could have been a soup. By the time the sushi finally came to the table the "chef" had been there for about 5 minutes and just finished making the fried rice. The rice in the "fried rice" was completely undercooked and hard with absolutely no flavor. Our sushi order was wrong and what we did get was mushy and falling apart. The chef tried to do his thing but was not entertaining at all and clearly not very skilled with this type of cooking. We didn't stick around after the fried rice. I went to speak with the manager about the problems. It was then that I found out the only supervisor was basically the food and beverage person for the Radisson. I let her know of the problems and that we would not be staying for the rest of the meal and she of course completed this horrible experience by making excuses that they were understaffed due to a server not being there, etc. Odd because I am still not sure why servers being understaffed would affect the quality of the food! I cannot recall the last time before Sakura that I walked out of a restaurant midway through the meal but I would rather have a frozen Lean Cuisine dinner then eat there.

This used to be a very good place to eat. The chefs were entertaining and food worth the price. As of my last visit, I determined I won't be returning. I ordered steak and scallops and the chef over cooked my scallops making them chewy and burned. Literally a couple had burned edges. My steak was doused in teriyaki sauce when I requested no sauce. Overall the chef and his lack of experience ruined the food for evening. I won't be recommending it anymore for visitors. The sushi however was still good. Additionally the wait staff was lacking. Out waiter/waitress didn't return for a very long time and told us they were covering the other restaurant as well thus her absence. In the meantime our drink orders didn't arrive until the chef arrived and there was plenty of missed opportunities for adding bottles to our alcohol tab - we were a group celebrating afterall.
(3)Pam L.
The atmosphere was pleasant. The employees were friendly and attentive. The chef at our table was friendly. But there was nothing impressive or nothing that really stood out that would make this a memorable meal. The "show" cooking our food at our table was ok, alot of fire and friendly chatter and the food was good in general. The miso soup was chicken noodle with green onions. Overall, we were disappointed. I need to make a correction regarding the soup. We didn't realize a different soup came with the teppanyaki. We, incorrectly, assumed the meal came with miso. So, if you want miso just be sure to tell your server.
(3)Shaun L.
Excellent service! I had a great time with my friend, whom I was visiting in Flagstaff. We waited for only a few minutes before we were seated. The waiter was very kind, prompt, and friendly. While it's not the best sushi (I am somewhat particular about sushi since I'm from CA), there were a lot of different options and choices, with very fair price! Overall, I had a great time and will definitely return in the near future!

Pretty good stuff...a bit pricey but filling. Make sure you have 90+ minutes for your meal....
(4)Kat P.
Excellent and fast service, good-sized portions, yummy sushi, friendly and interactive chef and overall and wonderful experience. good thing it's not tied to the one in southern Arizona bc that place is the opposite of our dining experience in Flagstaff. Thank you.

I can't report on the Teppanyaki, as we had sushi - sort of. We didn't have high expectations for a sushi place in Flagstaff in the lobby of the Woodland Inn (?), and we weren't disappointed. The sushi at Sakura was awful. We ordered 3 rolls. Their menu was very 'Americanized', with NO rolls without fake crab or cream cheese (our dreaded fillers). The crab entirely overwhelmed any actual fish in the roll. The rice was heavily caked on the outside. The fish on top did not taste fresh, and tasted like thawed from frozen. Yikes! Never again. Both Hiro and Karma are better choices for sushi in Flagstaff.
(2)John M.
We decided to try Sakura despite seeing some questionable reviews. We really liked it! We were seated quickly even without reservations. Our waiter was very attentive, and the chef was good and entertaining. Had both sushi and grill items, both were excellent. Even got the Yelp check-in discount. Will definitely return!
(4)David M.
Wow! I wonder why the reviewers on here are so tough on this restaurant. I travel all over the country and I have been to Japan four times. This place is absolutely fine. Had a good meal. Sat at the sushi bar. I honestly wonder how sushi savvy the reviewers are here. Although this is not Tokyo, for Flagstaff, it was extremely acceptable. Everyone was nice. And the people at the teppanyaki tables all seemed to be enjoying themselves. I would absolutely recommend this place if you are in Flagstaff and want to get some sushi or teppanyaki.
(3)Nick K.
Surprisingly good for being in a hotel. We noticed Locals coming to this place so we figured it must be good. The best teppanyaki how we have seen (better than Kobe or Bennihana). Worth a try. Very good octopus salad, had yakisoba and the lobster teppanyaki. Highly recommend.
(4)Laura K.
I must say, this place has way cooler tricks than Benihana and the staff was a lot friendlier and actually talked to us. The chef (wish I could remember his name) was awesome!! I got a huge portion but I wish their fried rice came with chicken.
(4)Anice S.
When in Flagstaff this is the place to go for Teppanyaki. And, ask for Reuben! The food is delicious! sushi is fresh, soup is flavorful, scallops are cooked perfectly. I've had better fried rice. All else is delicious! And Reuben puts on a great show. He engages everyone at the table. And, the hostesses seat you as quickly as they can and are personable too!

Wow, I'm surprised Sakura has such bad reviews. After 10 years in Flagstaff I finally got up here for the first time and what a show! Although it is a small establishment, the teppan chefs make it completely worth while. I did not have sushi here, we sat at one of Chef Reuben's (the guy on the commercial) teppan tables. From start to finish, what a showman! He did some amazing/impressive trick work...the onion volcano was my favorite...and lots of fire! He's a pyro! Food was amazing, had steak and lobster cooked to perfection, and it turned into a really fun dinner. Food, service, and show were outstanding. A great place for a big get together of friends.
(5)John C.
I love this place! I recently moved from California and we had places like this all over the place in Orange County and so glad we found out here. The food and portions are great! Great place for a fun and entertaining meal!

I'm going to be quick here. Barely any tables, small sushi bar, no flavor, just avoid.

Absolutely terrible. I had teppanyaki once when I used to live in Phoenix, so I thought this would be a fun date to take the wife to. I had also heard so many good things from co-workers that I had to check it out. I think about the only thing they got right was my sake bombers. Unfortunately, even being a little tipsy from sake bombers couldn't cover up how lame the food was. I'll give them credit for the sushi, it wasn't bad. The unagi certainly wasn't great, but passable. The teppanyaki experience was priced about the same as I had had in Phoenix, but flavorless. I had teriyaki chicken, which just tasted like grilled chicken someone had dipped in teriyaki sauce. In Phoenix, they added the seasoning and sauce as they put the raw meat on the grill, which resulted in much more flavorful food. The showmanship wasn't the greatest, even though the waiter was friendly. I would highly suggest avoiding this overpriced restaurant. As an aside, I paid most of my bill in cash, then about $10 on my CC. When the bill cleared my bank, it posted as $150, which took a week to get back through the system. I never found out what had caused this, but combining this with the poor food, I don't think I'll be back.

Maybe it was an off night. The service started and it never picked up. I was seated and brought my menu and I was asked what I wanted to drink. The waiter pours me a diet coke, a glass of water and brings my menu. Then another waiter takes my order. I chose the Sakura (hibachi grilled stake, chicken and shrimp). A few minutes later the chef shows up to prep the grill and he asks if I received my salad. I did not. He headed for the kitchen and asked my waiter for my salad. The waiter brings my salad and from the opposite end of the hibachi grill, slides over my bowl of freshly refrigerated lettuce drenched in dressing. the chef and I engage in some light conversation. He seems like a nice guy as he slices, dices and plays with my meal. After he is done, and serves my food I as, don't I get rice with this and again, the chef has to hunt down my waiter. I don't understand, by this point there were a total of 5 people patronizing this restaurant. All in all, the food was OK, the service could have been better.
(2)Jun V.
Awesome deals awesome sushi guy.. $10 saki bomb hand roll and regular roll
(5)A. J.
This was an odd experience. From drinks to sushi there were strange interactions with the very nice waitress. The beer I ordered was not available. Really? It was just a beer. Guiness was served cold, which I don't care for, but I just let it warm up a bit. One soup was wrong and the waitress said "I thought that was wrong, but I brought it anyway." The tempuras we ordered were fine, but we ordered a Calamari and a shrimp tempura and there were SOME calamari and SOME shrimp surrounded by lots of vegetables. I thought the calamari and the shrimp would be more prominent. The sushi was ok. We got the Boston (quite dry, overall), the Volcano (very good) and 2 Dragons. The Dragons were made differently from each other (one used rice paper the other seaweed)...another story from the waitress about how the cooks "like to make them different". There are other options in Flagstaff so I probably won't be back.
(2)Susan S.
Go for the show not the food. Food was over priceded, sushi was okay. Service deserves 4 stars.
(2)Monica C.
Excellent Service & Food. I was greeted by bery friendly staff when I entered & asked if I would like sushi or teppan or american food. It wasn't crowded as it was Sunday night & fairly early for dinner so they let me sit where I wanted. I sat by a window with a great view outside of the restaurant. I ordered a scallop dish which turned out to be the best scallop meal I can ever remember. I'm not a fan of polenta, but after eating the spinach polenta I most definately am. The vegetables were also perfect. My server Aris was outstanding. She was knowledgeable about the area & food. Thank you Aris & Sakura for a wonderful meal & service.
(5)Eric K.
Service was very slow but the food was great and lots of fire on the table which the kids loved. The filet was excellent. Fried rice and sushi was ok. But its a cooking table in flagstaff so met expectations.
(3)Ethan L.
Yeah, this place is pretty bogus, but if you love teppanyaki it gets the job done. I would really advise against the sushi, not for any reason other than a general "stay away" feeling. Also, while eating the miso soup I just can't shake the feeling that it's dishwater based.
(3)Andrew K.
This is in the Radisson. We had very nice service - our waiter Nicolas (who is from Sedona and wrote down lots of great tips) is so nice! First time I ever had a Caucasian hibatchi chef; not highly skilled, but great heart. The sprouts were not good - burned flavor. The sushi, miso soup, and salad were so-so. I would suggest the shrimp and California rolls. Lots of food -- we split 1 hibatchi meal for 2, and didn't even finish.
(3)David C.
Yep this place really blew. I had a yellow-fin roll and the fish looked like it came out of a can it was so mangled. The sticky rice was too dry, the miso soup was way to salty and definitely came from a mix, and the fish off the grill came out frozen and was presented overcooked. Our waiter was also kind-of an idiot. Wow I really can't say enough bad things about this place. Oh yeah way overpriced. I enjoyed one thing...the guy working the hibachi grill was a real cook....not that he was good at cooking...but he had a fractured wrist from punching a metal door....my kinda cook.
(1)Arnab M.
This is a sushi/sashimi and teppanyaki, a.k.a. a hibachi grill, restaurants at the Radisson Woodlands. The wait for teppanyaki was long, so my father and I chose to have sushi. From the sushi-chef, who seemed at least part Asian, we learned that this Japanese restaurant in Flagstaff of all places was opened by a Korean 17 years ago. The sushi was all freshly made with very yummy and fresh fish. It's also the only time I've seen white and blond sushi and hibachi chefs. The service was quick and the staff were just wonderful. Oh, the edamame wasn't the best, bust still, this place had great food, and clearly a very popular restaurant... I bet there aren't many like it in Flagstaff.
(4)Vic P.
Went with the sushi and not the teppanyaki. Way exceeded my expectations. The fish all tasted fresh and not "fishy". Seaweed salad and Veggie roll were great, and the Wise Surprise is not to be missed.
(4)steve b.
My wife and I joined three other couples and try out Sakura because none of us had been there before. We were quickly seated around the grill area placed our orders. I won't go into lengthy details, but our "chef" was a big greasy looking guy with old tats up and down his arms and his finger nails were not clean. He did try to put on a show as he prepared our food (I ordered steak) as he banged and stumbled through flipping salt and pepper shakers around. The most annoying part was him talking to his buddy chef at the next grill about his day job. Apparently, his day job was working as a grease monkey in a auto repair shop (aahsoo, the dirty finger nails!). As he prepared the food I began to feel sorry for the guy because he had no skill and kind of mixed everybody's orders together. When I got my steak, it way overdone, greasy and with too much soy sauce. Overpriced, chefs are not skilled, food is ick. Avoid this place like the plague!!

(2)Pam L.

(4)Jason M.

(5)Amy P.

Thank you. Chris
(3)Michael J.

Second time I have been here and both times, food was great! Make reservations for teppanyaki - they seat people every 1/2 hr and we didn't want to wait this time. Sushi was fresh and good. Decor is a little dated but nobody probably noticed!
(4)Dean M.
(5)Melissa H.
Everything was great from the hostess to our server, Linda to our hibachi cook, kasey! We got the Wise Sushi roll and chicken hibachi! Definitely recommend both!
(5)Amy T.

(2)Angela Z.

(3)Sumit D.
(1)Kyle C.
Great food! Nice people, if you are looking for a restaurant with an Asian atmosphere this is not the place. Would definatly recommend for any one looking for sushi in flagstaff!
(4)Monica J.
(1)Dexter M.
(5)Teresa H.
(1)Maryanne M.

(1)S L.
(3)Bethie G.
(4)Randy G.
I'm going to be quick here. Barely any tables, small sushi bar, no flavor, just avoid.
(1)Ronald H.
(1)Ethan L.
(3)Javier O.

Service was very slow but the food was great and lots of fire on the table which the kids loved. The filet was excellent. Fried rice and sushi was ok. But its a cooking table in flagstaff so met expectations.

Went with the sushi and not the teppanyaki. Way exceeded my expectations. The fish all tasted fresh and not "fishy". Seaweed salad and Veggie roll were great, and the Wise Surprise is not to be missed.

(5)Amy P.

Thank you. Chris
(3)Eva J.
(2)Angela Z.

(4)Dawna H.

Second time I have been here and both times, food was great! Make reservations for teppanyaki - they seat people every 1/2 hr and we didn't want to wait this time. Sushi was fresh and good. Decor is a little dated but nobody probably noticed!
(4)Dean M.
(5)Melissa H.
Everything was great from the hostess to our server, Linda to our hibachi cook, kasey! We got the Wise Sushi roll and chicken hibachi! Definitely recommend both!
(5)Amy T.
Went for my daughter's birthday. Two different cooks, food was inconsistent, flavor was bland, and service was spotty. Unfortunately not as good as it used to be before the changes. Staff was very immature and lazy without any sense of urgency. Not friendly or welcoming.

(4)Patrick S.
(4)Michael J.
(2)Kyle C.
Great food! Nice people, if you are looking for a restaurant with an Asian atmosphere this is not the place. Would definatly recommend for any one looking for sushi in flagstaff!
(4)Brian B.
(4)Nathan P.
(3)Sumit D.

(1)Dexter M.

(1)Maryanne M.
