Though this is the first time I've been to Crystal Creek, I think that the appeal of it lies in your experience here rather than just the sandwiches. If this was your NAU go-to shop and each fold of turkey and salami contained a delicious memory of undergrad debauchery, then these could be the best sandwiches ever. But for us it was a quick stop for Sunday lunch with friends before we headed down the road after a weekend wedding in town. Had the Grand Rapids which is salami, ham, beef, turkey, cheddar, provolone, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, avocado, bacon, cream cheese, mayo and dressing on a white sub roll. The bread was soft and not too overpowering and the meats were quality pieces, albeit with just 4 oz of meat on the half, just a small bit of each. It was a good sandwich, though it could be improved with a more flavorful dressing and more vibrant veggies. I also think the cream cheese was missing because I couldn't detect any of that creamy tang. Paying for chips and $1.69 for a small soda ($.75 refills) seemed a bit much, putting a half sandwich meal over $9. I'll always try to support the local shops, but it makes it less pleasant when it costs more than it should.

Say no to Jimmy Johns and walk across the street to Crystal Creek. This place has been around since I can remember, and always hits the spot.

  • Remmie S.

Worst sandwich I've ever had. No flavor at all! And 75 cents for a refill!? Fuck you Crystal Creek!

    (1)
  • Carl S.

Service sucked. Seemed like employees didn't care and we're unorganized. Soda was flat and there was a .75 charge for a refill. I thought about ordering a beer but after the 30 min wait just to put in my order I decided it was not worth it. Sandwich was ok, not excellent. For the poor service I expected an excellent sandwich, I was wrong.

  • Brandon B.

Good sandwich but the service is poor. Not very up beat or friendly, borderline rude. Also the drinks are over priced.... Who charges .75 cents for fountain drink refills?! The medium drunk was already 2 bucks! Maybe I am cheap but I probably Wouldn't come here again..

Sandwiches are awesome, especially the French dip sub. If your ever in Flagstaff give it a try.

  • Matthew M.

Excellent quality sandwiches. Reuben with extra pickles. I will be coming back. One star off for cheese metal playing in the background and pricey refills.

Best sandwiches I've ever had. It's really gone downhill the past few years. Service extremely sucked. Soda was flat because the machine was broken but didn't warn us when ordering two drinks and two refills ($5.30) so after finding out I couldn't enjoy a diet soda I tried the tea. tea was foul and stale. I ask for Splenda and I get handed sugar. Then i go up to get a bottled cream soda that apparently has natural ingredients (i checked the label after and second listed is high fructose corn syrup) and actually get charged another $2.10 for this. What????

I got the Grand Rapids & it was one of the best sandwiches I've had. My bf got the French dip & that looked great too. Kids loved their turkey & cheese and salami & cheese.

Picked this place based on yelp reviews. Interior was old....very old. Got the lots of avocado veggie sandwich... Had two thin slices of avocado with more sprouts that a person needs to eat in a year. Maybe they were low on avocado? Sandwich was flavorless. Tomato was bland, cheese was bland, mayonnaise was bland. However, husband ordered ham sandwich and thought it was very good. Nephew ordered roasted turkey and said it was "fair"... So edible to a twenty-something but nothing to rave about.

  • Dennis G.

We waited for 45 minutes to get 4 sandwiches. 10 other customers were served before us, and they didn't even care. Poor service!!! Just go across the street and get a sandwich at Jimmy Johns.

  • C. N.

LOVE this place. Gotta have the Grand Rapids. Fresh bread, great ingredients, all at a decent price. Also love that you can get the Stone Arrogant Bastard in a pitcher. Anyways, go here. You won't be disappointed.

    (5)
  • Chad G.

The sandwich was ok. I didn't have a beer as I was driving back to phoenix but the craft beer selection is pretty awesome for a sub shop. I def agree you should support local and if you're trying to do that then I would go here over a chain for sure.

The Grand Rapids Sandwich... how can I even begin. I came by on my way back to Los Angeles on my way though Flagstaff. Fearing my 10 year old memory of the sandwich had been painted rosy over time -- I took my first bite. HOLY-YUM-TOWN-BATMAN! It's better than I remember. Not for the clogged of heart -- but I imagine they have other equally delicious creations. I wouldn't know. I've never tried anything else. Please invent a sandwich teleportation device.

I have been stopping in to this place for more than 10 years, any time I am in Flagstaff. They make terrific sandwiches. Love this place!

I was pleasantly surprised by Crystal Creek. The service here is awesome, and the food is pretty good and comes out quickly. To be fair, neither my fiance or I are big eaters, so we usually end up splitting a sandwich and leaving satisfied, so I can't complain about the prices. The downsides are how filthy the tables are (come on guys, you have to clean the grout out) and how horrendous the music usually is. Other than that, it's a pretty good sandwich place, and I end up in here regularly for a quick lunch after work. The avocado BLT rules.

The Short: A sub shop that serves quality subs and average sides with curbed enthusiasm. Pros: - Great food that's huge. - Lots of extras on subs. Lots! - Quality of food justifies price (kinda). - Bread tastes amazing. Cons: - Chip selection is extremely basic. Lays and Poore Brothers (I can get that anywhere). - Customer service almost sub-par. - Decor is bland. No frills but gets the job done. - Good quality but still pricey. Best Item(s): - Grand Rapids (IT'S LOADED!) - Pastrami (Very taste)

  • Clayton M.

My wife & I had a quick lunch to go when we were on vacation in Flagstaff. We both had sub sandwiches with chips to go. Subs were definitely above average, large portions of fresh veggies, meat and fresh baked bread. Good stuff.

  • Alana P.

stopped in flagstaff on the way to the grandcanyon and grabbed a bite here, it was super yummy if only it was closer to home. :) I got the BLT and my friend got the grand rapids it was fast service and the people working there where nice :D enjoy

The food was delicious, simple and to the point. The chip selection is limited. The price is more than it should be.

I had not been to Crystal Creek in years, perhaps decades, long before I even left Flagstaff. Not because I didn't like it. More because I'm not a huge fan of the sandwich. But after the Burritos Fiesta food fiesta the night before, even I couldn't bear the thought of leftovers and suddenly a sandwich sounded great. My husband had never heard of Crystal Creek in his time in Flagstaff, so he was introduced. I had forgotten how good their sandwiches really are. I also had no recollection of pool tables in there before. I had also forgotten that it takes FORever to get a sandwich. It was busy, but we still waited at least 20 minutes. For a sandwich they wrap up and hand to you! Glad we went and maybe I'll go back in another 20 years. I'm sure it will be there. Some things in Flag never change thankfully.

I have to mention what nobody else seems to: THIS PLACE IS LOUD. REALLY LOUD. Tile floors, wooden walls, wood planked ceiling and a mirror running the length of the back wall make this place REALLY LOUD. Bonus for #craftbeer geeks - Oak Creek Brewery is on tap! They have other selections, but who cares? They have OCB. #Soda freaks, they have you covered too with some orange creams and root beers that are not the major soda players. The sandwich (I had a Grand Rapids) was pretty good. The bread could have been baked about 1 minute longer, but it WAS nice and soft. The cream cheese is a nice touch, but seemed to overpower everything but the Genoa Salami - so it might as well be Salami and Cream Cheese. If it was me, I'd drop the cukes and toss in some sprouts which would blend nicely with the avocado (which was not overpowered by the cream cheese, my bad). All in all, it is a decent sammy joint. I'd go again.

    (3)
  • Tim S.

The food was decent. Whoever thinks these sandwiches are amazing has only had a sandwich here and at home. If the cost to feed a family of four wasn't OUTRAGEOUS then I'd give it a third star. But that's not the case. After sandwiches all around, drinks, and some chips, I could have taken my family TWICE to Chipotle. In a word? Whatever. You want a good sandwich in Flag? There are better places scoped out right here on Yelp. Look 'em up, it's worth the extra 7 seconds of your life.

  • Brittany J.

I had a pulled pork whole sandwich and my fiance had a pastrami whole sandwich (each were about $8). The sandwiches were huge, tasty, and cooked to perfection. Are the sandwiches that much better than Subway? Probably, but the crappy service and the 75 cent charge for re-fills puts me off, and I'd much rather try another sandwich shop nearby where it isn't that hard for employees to smile or don't carelessly throw your receipt at you to sign. Otherwise, the place itself looks kinda dingy and the tables aren't all that comfortable, but there are pool tables.

  • Caitlin B.

Went here yesterday with the boyfriend. We split a whole, 12 inch Crystal Veggie (avocado, cream cheese, walnuts, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheddar, swiss and provolone cheese on a wheat roll), minus the walnuts because my boyfriend is allergic. Total cost of sandwich: $8. The sandwich was tasty! I think next time I will try the Avocado Meadows... which has a ton of avocado with cheese and other delicious sounding ingredients. There was a fairly large crowd here around 1:30, and everyone seemed to enjoy their sandwich. I don't know why reviews have been so low, but any fears I had about quality and deliciousness factor were misfounded.

We drove all through Flagstaff on our trip home from Colorado looking for somewhere to eat on our way back to Phoenix. We didn't want fast food but we didn't want anything to heavy or expensive or fancy as we had 3 kids that had been sitting in the car a LONG time already. Truth be told we really wanted a Thai restaurant for soup. Saw tons of Chinese restaruants in Flag but only one Thai (next to Crystal Creek) but it was not open. We opted to just eat a sandwhich and it was counter service and easy. I was impressed by the menu choices and got a Crystal Veggie Supreme or something. I liked it. Had never had cream cheese, avocado and NUTS on a sandwhich before and I really enjoyed it. My husband liked his chicken and rice soup and my oldest son had his first ever french dip sandwhich and was thrilled. We will eat here again when we are driving through town and hungry.

I originally really wanted to try this place because I thought that they might make their own bread. When we went in it was around 1:30 in the afternoon and there were a decent amount of people in the shop, good sign or so we thought. We went on a Thursday and they had their meatball sandwich's on special (full sandwich), my boyfriend LOVES meatball sandwich's and he really isn't a picky eater. I got their Crystal Creek vegetarian sandwich (half sandwich) the lady who took our order was very nice and did her job quickly. We were kind of surprised at the price ($8 for a full sandwich that was on special and 6$ for a half sandwich) because usually local places have lower prices and the food is USUALLY great. We got our food pretty quickly, my boyfriend took a bite of his meatball sub and asked me if mine was good, which it was okay, not great but okay. So he had me try a bite of his sandwich. It literally tasted like Chef-Boyardee in between two buns (the bread was definitely not homemade). It was pretty gross, my sandwich could have had fresher ingredients and some real bread and it would have been good. We will definitely not be returning to this shop, do yourself a favor, go over to Fatties Toasted Subs, it used to be a Cheba Hut, (it's only like a quarter of a mile away) and get yourself a nice fresh and reasonably priced sandwich there.

I don't know? I have been coming her since about 1990. Something about the turkey, bacon avo sandwich. I have never got anything else. I think the sandwiches are simple and pretty good. They are not by any means gourmet or fancy. Just delicious! I will always be a fan of this place. It has not changed is 21 years that I have gone there. Love it. Subway DOES NOT MAKE BETTER SANDWICHES! The folks that say that don't understand good sandwiches. Subway is not good...ever!! Just because there bread is soft and chewy does not make the sandwich good. Like I said this place is good, its not gourmet or fancy, just a place that makes pretty good sandwiches and yes have good beer on tap. If you want a good sandwich you need to go to a different city or maybe Main St.

We pretty much eat here every time were in Flagstaff. Their sandwiches are delicious, stuffed with food, and on amazing bread.

  • Robert O.

I was told this place had the best sandwiches in Flagstaff.... If thats true I feel sorry for the folks that populate this mtn town! I may be being a little snotty here, but I'm used to a high quality sandwich with the best ingredients and premium prices, ala Carly's or Sacks or Arai Pastry or The Roosevelt. When I came here with my best friends, one of which was a local and the other had already been here; they both vouched for the place, and were raving with praise. Unfortunately I cannot do the same. I paid something like $7 for a drink and a half a sandwich. which to my broke ass college student finances is considered expensivo- well for a sandwich of this variety. I ordered a bacon lettuce tomato and avocado sandwich. It was okay. Nothing stand out extraordinary about it. For a half sandwich it was large, and they did put a fair share of bacon in it. But it was purely "meh. I've experienced better". First off, the bread: it was dry and stale, and your garden variety store bought bread, nothing too noteworthy. For me, that is a chief sin. I am a bread enthusiast and a sandwich should, i.m.o., be utilizing the best artisan style breads, with a crusty exterior and soft fluffy interior, the bread has to be of top quality as it is the building block, foundation of the sanwich. Secondly the ingredients, the guts of my sandwich were mediocre at best: shredded lettuce!? blahhhh gross! I hate shredded lettuce, shredded iceburg lettuce to be exact. like i've said in other reviews "it reminds me of grade school tacos". the tomatos were okay i suppose, and the avocados weren't bad. the bacon wasnt the best, but it was plentiful i guess. Thirdly there was a service charge of .50 cents for using a credit/debit card: lame. and refills on soda were .75 cents: weak To note, there was beer served on tap, and two pool tables, in addition to large screen tv's for watching the ball games. so that was nice. All in all i'd pass on this place next time I visit Flag, Crystal Creek Sandwich Company didnt live up to the hype my friends were laying down as far as I'm concerned.

Just what we were looking for on our way out of Flagstaff. Yummy sandwiches. We asked what was the most popular sandwich and ordered it - I think it was the Grand Rapids. We split a large. Yum! Kids liked it too.

  • Moki C.

There will always be a wait for your sandwich, but it's one worth waiting for...get the footlong for the value.

    (4)
  • Jesse S.

Delicious. Stopped here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised with one of the best hot sandwiches I've had in some time. Had the BBQ Ham half sandwich, and my wife had the Spicy French Dip. Decent pricing, and a surprisingly large beer and wine selection. The only downfall is the .75 cent refills on sodas. Otherwise, it kicks.

    (5)
  • Tank M.

Good food I've tryed most of the sandwiches there and I think the grand rapids is the best but sometimes it seems Like your bugging the people that work there when you want to order your food

  • Andy D.

After trying this place on three occasions, I can honestly say that I've had better sandwiches at Subway locations. I appreciate that this a local eatery, but the sandwiches simply don't hold up. I kept hoping the next time would be better, instead it was worse. The bread they use here is really the downfall of the sandwich. It seems super dry and flavorless, making the entire sandwich hard to eat. Each occasion I got a vegetarian sandwich (because I mostly eat vegetarian), but the vegetables never were particularly fresh, nor very flavorful. There seemed to be not enough flavoring, not enough mayo or sauce or anything. I think next time I'm craving a sandwich, I'll just go to Cheba Hut or Subway.

  • Lux And Leland L.

Three words: super crystal veggie. This place has been a favorite since I was in college, and now that Leland and I are visiting flag for the winter break, it was time to introduce him to the wonders of Crystal Creek. My guess is we'll Be back again, maybe for pastramis this time!

I genuinely feel sorry for the reviewers that had less than stellar experiences here. I adore Crystal Creek! I've been going here for about 20 years. That alone should say something. How many sandwich shops outside of the East coast can boast such longevity?!! My personal favorite is the Crystal Rapids sandwich. It is the perfect blending of veggies and cheese, with the unexpected addition of walnuts and cream cheese. I really can't say enough about this sandwich. It literally gives me shivers thinking about it! As most other chains offer, you can completely customize your order and it clearly states that in like a bajillion places. If you don't want mayo, say so! And if you are in the mood for something other than a sandwich, they always have at least two homemade soups to choose from. These are perfect on those cool Flagstaff days!! They have a TON of beers on tap. Always have a game on one of the screens, and if you are restless while waiting for your sandwich, play a round of pool. If given a choice between CCSC and any other sandwich shop in Flagstaff, there wouldn't be a competition or even a discussion. The sandwiches are HUGE, fresh, and cheap. love Love LOVE CCSC!!!

  • Kat P.

This was my go to sandwich place in college and still is every time we come to visit. My teenagers insist we don't leave Flagstaff without at least two visits here for lunch. Everything is always fresh and delicious. The portions are just right for a healthy appetite. The staff is always friendly. and its a great place to play some pool while waiting for the monsoon rains to pass before heading out to the next adventure. Recommend the turkey, tuna, French dip and crystal subs. Yum!

    (5)
  • Maestro L.

Ok, But better out there. Its after 830pm and they don't do hot sandwiches...WTH?

    (3)
  • Rebecca F.

Eh. Maybe it was hyped too much by a former Lumberjack, but I thought my sandwich was dry and quite frankly, rather flavorless. Sorry, CCSC enthusiasts- I think this place just isn't what it used to be.

  • Jan S.

I used to go here when I attended NAU so I had to stop in on a recent visit to Flagstaff. Walnuts on a veggie sandwich is a great idea. The sandwich was awesome and so was the Oak Creek Canyon beer on tap. In the middle of the week the place wasn't crowded, we even got a game of pool in before heading out. Please stay the same CCSC!

    (4)
  • David W.

    - The prices are a bit high. For two dollars less you can get a better sandwich at Subway. + The bread was fresh and soft. + The half size seems like a 6 inch sub.

    (3)
  • Josh P.

My fiancée and I came up from Phoenix and decided to catch lunch here after all the glowing yelp reviews. Honestly, we don't know where all the praise comes from. I see a Best of Flagstaff 2008 award on the wall. Really? I ordered the Turkey Avocado and my fiancée the Crystal Veggie Something. The ingredients are mediocre at best. The bread was just okay. The turkey just okay. The veggies just okay. And, well, a whole lot of just okay Is probably what's making us both feel sick right now! Sadly, we have no more to say except that we should have gone elsewhere.

    (2)
  • Steven P.

We came here because the reviews on Yelp. We ordered two whole sandwiches which were plenty for 3, and way too much for two of us. They were just OK, the bread was dry and too thick. The sandwich meat were bland and they made it even worse with all the lettuce they put in. After we ate half of each sandwiches, we both agreed that we should've gone to Subway next time if we want sandwiches, and we don't even like Subway that much.

    (2)
  • Barbara S.

Really??? 4 or 5 stars??? Guess there is no accounting for taste. People - give your wallet a break & go to Subway or Quiznos for a good sub sandwich. Service was incredibly slow, staff sans personality. Meat with lettuce, cucumber & dressing is absolutely not worth the $$$.

    (1)
  • Tim H.

I'm biased of course as Crystal Creek was a staple for me during college. Rule #1: Get the Grand Rapids. It's the motherload there. If you wanted just a turkey sandwich you should have went somewhere else now shouldn't you :-). Is it the best sandwich in the world? Who knows -- but I love it and is a must have for every visit when I come to Flagstaff. If you are in to beer, they have a selection as well to enjoy while watching whatever game is on or playing a game of billiards with friends. If you are in Flagstaff -- drop in and give Crystal Creek a try -- it's a landmark for Lumberjacks!

    (4)
  • Timothy H.

Pretty good little sandwich place. Half a sandwich is plenty for anyone! Two downsides... I think the address is incorrect and they charge 75¢ for refills. Soda and tea refills should always be free. We wanted refills before we left on out long journey home and didn't have cash. I'm not going to charge 75¢ to my card... Other than that, really good food! Get a large drink!

    (3)
  • Matt J.

My wife & I usually get the Grand Rapids toasted. It is usually yummy although sometimes the ingredients really need to be dispersed throughout the sandwich better. It's really not that cheap for what you get & the atmosphere really needs a little attention. I've never been impressed or upset about the service.

I can see why people would like this place - great happy hour prices, huge TV screen, pool tables and, like, 19 beers on tap. Sounds like paradise, right? Well, what happens when your stomach begins to rumble and you want some grub? You order a sandwich, right? Right. Sodas and chips, too, probably. You can't very well screw up a pre-packaged bag of chips. Or fountain soda. But since I didn't try either of those, I wouldn't know. I did, however, order a sandwich. It was the turkey, bacon and avocado sandwich. I commented to my friend that I hoped it was big b/c I was hungry. Boy, was it big! It was like a 12" sub. It looked great, yet the moment I bit into it, all I tasted was bread. Plain bread. Plain white bread. I wasn't even asked if I wanted wheat. Then I noticed mayo. YUCK. ICK. GROSS. But, since I was so hungry and my friend would probably think me a snob for returning the sandwich b/c of mayo (which I absolutely detest), I ate the sandwich anyway. I was THAT hungry. Plus, what else would give this sandwich any flavor, if not the white icky stuff? Bonus star for actually using fresh, shaved turkey meat. I only wish the sandwich had a little more pizazz. I mean, even Subway has more flavor than this place. (I know, I know... Sad but true.)

Before some friends and I settled into a forest cabin to escape Phoenix for the weekend, they brought me here to Crystal Creek, as per their ritual, to have a sandwich. I'd say it's pretty much an unassuming establishment from the outside, located in a small strip mall, and is equally unassuming when you walk in. The inside kind of reminded me of a local, casual pizza parlor - except that it was a sandwich house. Going up to the counter, I saw they had a decent brew on tap selection and their sandwich menu was pretty extensive. I picked the full Super Crystal Veggie sandwich, which was laden with all the typical veggie goods plus artichoke hearts, walnuts, olives, and three kinds of cheese and then sat down at a table with my friends. Once my sandwich got to me (and it was massive), I unwrapped it in no time and took a huge chomp. Man, now that's what I called a GOOD sandwich, and a true testament to how good it was that I didn't even miss not having any roast beef or turkey inside it. The wheat roll was soft and delicious and the veggies were incredibly fresh (and not Subway "Eat Fresh" fresh, either), and the multi-cheese was a great add. The addition of walnuts added a new dimension to both the flavor and the texture. Nuts in a sandwich - who knew? All in all, a great bite to eat and a great local, casual institution out here in Flagstaff. Will definitely be back for more grub the next time I'm in town, and definitely recommend it to others whenever they happen to find themselves up here, too. 4 stars.

    (4)
  • A. J.

Nothing special, I don't get the3-4 stars. I like to support local shops, but not when the food is bleh and the prices are high. Noisy. Slow.

  • Dean D.

Now this is a sandwich place. Good food and quick service, no gimmicks, just sandwich, big and plenty and did we mention beer and pool and large screen TV's. Yes please. Seriously the only reason why this place isn't more popular is because its in a tiny strip mall on the busiest street in town. The only reason, I give four, is because it can cost slightly more than the average NAU student makes in a lifetime and they need to clean up the joint a bit more often.

  • Zoe L.

omg! stopped here on a road trip from San Francisco to Albuquerque. i've lived in lots of U.S. cities, and i'm constantly on the hunt for a good toasted meatball sub. this is my go-to place for the southwest region! long lines during peak eating hours- small staff + they're constantly running, but if you're willing to wait, you can sit as long as you want + enjoy your sandwich. small selection of non-Bud beers on tap. i look forward to coming back :)

DO NOT GO HERE!!! This was -bar none- the WORST food I have EVER had in Flagstaff. I have lived in AZ 24 years and had some bad food in Flag before, but this beats them all! I ordered the BBQ beef pulled pork ( yes,it said both) after clearing up the description (they claim it is pork). The husband ordered pastrami. We waited 20 minutes for our food. There were only 6 people on the place. Only 2 were also waiting for their food. WTH?? The husband took the first bite & made a face. He opened the sandwich...ALL FAT - the quality of the 'meat' was so poor I wouldn't feed it to a DOG!! Then it was my turn. HORRIBLE BBQ sauce over chunks of fat that went bad last week. I had to spit it out. These other reviewers must have been so starving when they ate here, they would have eaten dirt. Save your stomach-eat ANYWHERE ELSE!!

Do you like sandwiches? I like sandwiches. And I like Crystal Creek. If you don't like sandwiches, or are looking for exciting sandwiches, this may not be your kind of place. Most selections are decent, but nothing over the top. Fresh ingredients, big portions, tasty results. Tasty, not unique. There are a couple variations on the standard sandwich fare and those are also pretty good- the spicy french dip is a favorite of mine. This would probably be 3 stars but I gave an extra because the a) the special sandwiches are quite yummy, b) the beer selection rocks, c) they've never taken particularly long or screwed up an order for me, and perhaps most importantly, d) I'm starting salivate just writing this, so whatever Crystal Creek lacks in unique snowflake-ness, it makes up for in some intangible quality that subconsciously seduces me like Pavlov's bell seduces his dogs. Cue the Homer Simpson drool.

  • Bethie G.

Crystal Creek was on the fast decline some years ago...when I first moved here in 99 they were a favorite and began to go down hill. Tried it again last week, the first time in years, and they are re-claiming sandwich glory. Crystal Rapids is fantastically loaded with meat cheese and veggies. Pleased indeed. The homemade bread is also great! Glad they are back.

    (4)
  • Alain S.

The folks at Crystal Creek make great sub sandwiches for the dollar. I'd never opt for Subway or Quiznos when Crystal Creek is right down the road. I can only give it 4 stars because their food is *not* as good as some reviews I've read and heard make it out to be. It's just a simple sub shop. In recent years, I've wondered if they're still making their own bread because it's tasted softer and blander. Their menu offers a nice assortment of ingredient combos, but avocado is about as exotic as you're going to get.

I ate at this place with some frequency for seven years, and it remains my absolute favorite sandwich joint. In general, nothing here falls below the level of exceptional. While there are times when they're over hasty or too sloppy making sandwiches, that's just the way it goes in any kind of food service. Some people are just more careful and conscientious than others. The sandwiches offer a wide variety of toppings that you just wouldn't find at more corporate sammich shops: fresh avocado, alfalfa sprouts, walnuts, cream cheese, for example. In fact, as much of a carnivore as I am, I even occasionally order one of the several amazing vegetarian options. Unlike at most places, these are not just one of the other sandwiches but without meat, but are well-laden, unique creations. When meat does come on a sandwich, it is fairly high quality (though not cut to order) and generously portioned out. This is especially noticeable with the bacon, which, for once, is actually enough to taste against the other flavors. Sandwich toppings are set by the menu, though they can always switch things out for you. The creations they come up with are stellar, so I never regretted having to abdicate this responsibility. The bread is soft and delicious, but they only offer white or wheat, which is somewhat disappointing. The prices are a bit high, but worth it, I think, for the quality of sandwich you get. Still, not a place I could afford to eat at all the time. A shame, because I could have eaten Crystal Creek several times a week.

Crystal Creek is one of the places I miss most since moving out of Flagstaff. They have the best cold sandwiches! (Not to be confused with my previous review of best hot subs at Streets of NY) I have to agree with Julie in that my favorite is the Grand Rapids. The only negative thing I can say is that you can rarely find parking at CC. But the Safeway parking lot is a very short walk...as long as it's not icy and freezing!

Driving up to Flagstaff from Tempe is never complete without a stop at Crystal Creek. Their sandwiches are almost addictive- they combined the delicious tastes of seasoned meats, avocado, vegetables, fresh baked bread... The sandwich I always order? Why, the "Crystal Rapids" of course. If you're ever in this part of town, you won't regret stopping by for lunch.

I wanted to love this place, but every-time I ate there my stomach hurt afterward.

Oh man. I love this place. They have beer! Lots of beer. On tap! Many varieties or stuff you wouldn't normally find, at a little place, especially. The sandwiches are soooo good. They're huge too. The bread is great. The price is about the same as Subway but you get more food and it tastes better. The sandwich I get has WALNUTS on it! Walnuts! It's fancy but not expensive. The people are nice. You can get it to go or sit there and eat it. The look is basic but there are pool tables in case you wanna play. Try the strawberry lemonade!
