I was in Flagstaff over the weekend for my brother's graduation from NAU. Brix was his choice for a celebratory dinner - and I have to say - it was truly an experience, not just a meal. The service was impeccable, the ambiance wonderful, and the food indescribable. I was so pleased with everything we tried. We had a cheese plate for an appetizer with poached apricots and figs (yumm). For dinner, I had the roast duck with risotto (amazing). Others in the group tried the pork loin and the new york strip. All were fantastic. Topped off with a wonderful red wine (Cinsaut - a totally new variety for me), this meal was a terrific experience. I wouldn't miss this place if you are headed to or through Flagstaff!

Beau and I had a long weekend to try a new eatery. Brix provided a fun but relaxing atmosphere, great food, and excellent service. I followed up with a solo adventure and it was still a treat. After watching staff attentively serve a family with two young'uns, I was especially impressed by their diplomacy. Nice refreshing note: Brix makes a smooth martini, flavorful taste without a gin punch. Also, although their menu may be considered pricey, their drinks are very reasonable.

One of the top level restaurants I flagstaff. Small hidden location but they do have a seasonal patio. Great bread with whipped butter and unique important sea salt. Their cheese selection is varied and strong. Would recommend as their fruit compote is amazing which comes with the artisanal cheese plate. They are particular with their cuts of meat and obtain fresh vegetables from the farmers market. Note, they are expensive, but it's worth the extra $$$$

Not sure where to start. My husband and I thankfully tried this restaurant the night after our anniversary! After being seated we looked over the menu and there were some interesting options. I decided to have the pork chop with risotto. While we were waiting for our food. We both noticed not only how loud the music was but how inappropriate it was for the atmosphere. Nice candle lit white tablecloth covered tables and loud bar type music do not go together in our opinion. The food arrives and the mushrooms on top of the pork chop are so salty it's inedible. I took it off the top and put it on a separate plate. At this point the waitress comes over, I believe her name was Becky, and asks how everything is. I tell her that the mushrooms are so salty that they can't be eaten and that I put them on another plate. She says "oh" and takes another plate off the table and leaves. OK what just happened? My husband and I look at each other confused. The pork chop and risotto are good but at this point I am annoyed with the music and the waitress. I eat a little more and I am done. My husband ordered the Steak Frites Creekstone. The steak was very salty and my husband forced himself to eat it because of the price of the entree. The house cut frites were crunchy and cold. The waitress came back took our plates and never said a word. Really? You see two plates of food barely touched and you don't say a word? We should have asked for the manager but just wanted to leave we were so disgusted. To top off the night, we get back to our Inn and my husband is sick with a stomach ache all night. We are truly surprised this restaurant is so highly recommended. The night before we ate at The Cottage Restaurant and it was excellent in every way.

This place is a huge ripoff! The food was bland soso, small portions, and the prices were outrageous. Absolute ripoff! My girlfriends steak was small and raw when she asked for medium rare and tough.. My chicken was bland. I cant tell you how bad this place was. Probably the worst meal I have ever eaten at a clip of $70. We even heard the chef yelling at people in the kitchen which was pretty funny. Folks, this place sucks and should just close and go away. These people have no business running a restaurant. I cant believe some fools gave this place an award for something.

I stumbled upon Brix because I could hear the patrons on the patio from my room at the Inn at 410. It was packed and impossible to get outdoor seating on a Thursday night. Good for them. Our food was fine. They use some local ingredients which I am very appreciative of. We had some appetizers and wine. The wine list is hugely overpriced. The person waiting on us had an attitude. I will go back but I'll make a reservation for the patio.

I had a fabulous dinner at Brix. Bread and butter (sprinkled with sea salt), mussels, pork porterhouse with a cherry glaze of some sort, good wine, great atmosphere, excellent service... there isn't a single bad thing I can say about my dining experience here. In my opinion, the quality of the food and presentation is on par with restaurants like Elements in Phoenix. Apparently it is a converted carriage house. It is warm, has good lighting (dim but not too dark), and it is very intimate (8 tables inside and a small bar). Definitely make reservations for dinner. I am truly puzzled by the other reviews... did we go to the same restaurant? Really?

I went to this restaurant after a long drive out of Phoenix through Friday afternoon rush hour traffic. And I was anxious to get a good meal. I had the deer tenderloin encrusted with a red chile sauce (no longer on the menu). I was puzzled as to which wine to get and my waitress suggested the Gravity Hills Tumbling Tractor zin. It was a perfect match. The deer tenderloin was perfectly cooked and the red chile spice rub went fantastic with it. I did not have and issues with the wait staff at all. And I was well supplied with cold water, important at the end of a hot day in August. Over all it was a good experience although the whole thing was rather expensive. But I was out to treat myself so I didnt mind so much.

I don't have Katie C's compunctions about giving the restaurant one star. We were splurging as well on our 6th anniversary. They led us to the back garden which was just lovely, if a little chilly. First thing we asked for was bread- we had spent a long day hiking the Grand Canyon and were hungry. Ordered the fried green tomatoes which were oddly tasteless, like eating plain fried bread. The tomatoes were extremely hard and not sour at all, and the crust was so thick I had to look after every bite to make sure I had gotten some tomato. The three 2 inch wide slices were polished off pretty quickly though. I got the seasonal fish, halibut with a polenta sweet corn fallen souffle, heirloom tomatoes and asparagus. The "souffle" was excellent and the asparagus had a nice grilled flavor, but the halibut was dry and and the tomatoes ice cold! There was not much flavor in the fish and I had to force myself to finish it because I needed the sustenance. My boyfriend took the swordfish with quinoa fritters. Again the fish here was dry, and the quinoa fritters, though tasty, were oddly redolent of crab or at least Old Bay seasoning. The question is, why? One appetizer, two entrees, two glasses of wine and zero dessert (we figured we would do better at a Dairy Queen), tax and tip = $130!!!!! Absolutely NOT worth it. The hostess was very gracious, and so was the busboy but our server Steven was loud and grating. We could hear him talking up every table, "Oh yeah I LOVE that wine, good choice" "Hey, so yeah today I asked the chef to make a special dessert and he listened to me" "How you doing here?" Not exactly matching the bowered, angel-lit terrace. Oh, and the bread? It never arrived.

One of the only Fine Dining in Flagstaff. Brix is a cute brick carriage house with a wonderful courtyard patio. After enjoying a dozen meals (over the past year), I praise the chef / staff and continue to crave the fine food. Quality, quality, quality. There are no bargins when you eat quality. Local and organic ingredients make a huge difference. Best romantic meal and setting above 7000'. So many other Flagstaff restaurants are too informal, crowded and loud. This is a 'Hidden Gem' of Northern Arizona.

Wonderful place for dinner! Went there last night to celebrate a birthday and have a great time. The staff is attentive, the atmosphere is cozy and the food is exceptional. Can't wait to dine there again!

Dear Brix, I really wanted to give you four stars, but if you keep reading my letter you will see why i could not... My boyfriend and i were looking for a nice restaurant on Yelp and found you. You had Sunday Supper special prefix menu that evening. We don't usually do prefix because there is always one thing on the menu that does not sound appealing. This time everything sounded great and despite the many negative reviews on Yelp, we decided to go give you a try. I would like to give you the credit you deserve, dear Brix: your service was very friendly & attentive and your ambiance was cozy & romantic. Your prefix menu that evening included the following: - Potato soup: my boyfriend thought it was good, but i found it to taste like fake mashed potato powder. I don't know what you put in there, but something about it just didn't feel right to me. I didn't really give it too much thought though because it was cold outside and it felt really nice to get my belly warmed up by a cup of hot soup. - Pork chop with lasagna: let me tell you, dear Brix, lasagna was the best part of the dish! It had such unique flavors that I can't find words to describe it. It wasn't the typical lasagna I'm used to, you know, the one with a ton of red sauce & ground meat. It was very thin, white-looking, potato-tasting piece of lasagna. We both enjoyed it very much and thought it went absolutely perfect with the pork. The pork, however, was on the dryish side and didn't have much taste. But we were able to easily fix it by putting some ground pepper on it, so it wasn't too bad overall. - The dessert: you had told us in your menu that we would be getting ginger bread. We were really looking forward to enjoying it. Especially my boyfriend. He kept talking about how he could not wait to eat that dessert the entire time we were getting ready to come to you. He was talking about it so much that he started to annoy me. I love my boyfriend, so i forgave him for annoying me. We were very excited when the dessert's turn came... until we tried to stick a fork in it. 'Tried', my dear Brix, is the key word here. To be more accurate, 'Tried, and tried, and tried' is the key word. The thing was so hard, we could not believe it! We could not believe you would serve us something like that. I do, my dear Brix, sometimes tend to exaggerate, but i am not now, i promise. I couldn't help but wonder, why would you feed us stale, rock-hard dessert?.. And then i realized that it must be your theme to serve bricks, after all, you are called Brix. It was very disappointing, my dear Brix, but we did not complain to our lovely waitress (my boyfriend thinks complaining at a restaurant is just as embarrassing as showing up wearing a girl's thong. He's a silly boy.) We wanted to like you, Brix, we really did... I just wish you were called Creme-Brew-Lay, so maybe then you would have served us creme brulee... Sincerely, Suzanna G

We finally made it to Brix! Only one disappointment -listed last. Soup- a vegan broccoli puree with a hint of cumin - delicious. Goat cheese gnocchi - wonderful. My wife has been converted to antipasti fan hood - her bad experiences at bad restaurants were finally overcome by duck liver pate, roasted red pepper and eggplant and a delicious olive selection. Wines were an excellent accompaniment. The bass, however, was dry.

This place is cute, the atmosphere is quaint and cozy. My boyfriend and I went on a spurge (average entree plate costs $25-32). We started out with the fried calamari. It was a very small portion and not mouth-watering good. I forgave them. But, then when our entrees came what a disappointment. I had the seasonal fish, it tasted weird and inconsistent. He had the duck. Also, just as plain and boring. This ended costing us $82. WTF? It was such a waste of time and money. If you are ever going to go out to a nice place and want to spend the money. I recommend Josephine's at least its tasty. I would have given it one star but the atmosphere is nice.

I had the Steak Frites black and bleu - the steak was great and perfectly seasoned. The fries were okay, with the accompanying aioli being too buttery and light on flavour. Ambiance was cozy and the place had an isolated yet warm feel to it, amplified by the snowy surroundings. My biggest complaint rests on the service; our waitress, while knowledgeable of the menu, rarely made eye contact with us and seemed lethargic through the entire process. The wait staff would also constantly ask me if I was done when my silverware said otherwise and failed to heed the signal once I actually was done. Despite the shortfalls, it's an overall pleasant experience and sets itself a notch above the surrounding cuisine. Would return again if in the neighborhood.

Great service, so-so food, moderate prices. For 2 apps, 2 bottles of wine, 1 salad, 2 entrees & 1 desert bill came to $180. This place had been highly recommended by friends - so to be fair we were expecting a lot. Ordered two bottles of wine (both suggested by waitress & were excellent) 2 apps, 1 salad & 2 entrees -all shared by 4 of us. One of the entrees was steak, we've had better. This is definitely not their specialty & I would not suggest certainly not for the price. We also got their chicken dish, this was decent. Desert was a flour less choc cake & this was average. Overall, worth checking out (maybe just for a glass of wine & app) but I would not go back for dinner. Cute & cozy, but there are so many other great places in Flagstaff to go for dinner!

I've been to brix many times over the years and I am sad to see their quality and care fall so far. They had a few good reviews and I think they have relied on that more than innovating and caring about their food. SALT, SALT, SALT. They love the salt. The past few meals I've had were uneatable. I shriveled up like a slug. The staff are polite and professional. They love listing out all of the ingredients on the dish. Maybe their pitch will convince me that the food is good? Food portions are tremendous. Too much IMO. I think Cuvee 928 costs much less and offers better quality.

I've eaten at Brix probably a dozen times since they opened, beginning maybe three weeks after they opened up until last month. They seem to rise and fall with the seasons. I've had spectacular meals there; I've had so-so meals that left me wondering what I'd just dropped 140 bucks on. On balance, most of the meals I've had there were excellent, and have kept me coming back in hopes that this time it will be as good as it was last time,or the time before that. Really excellent food is a crapshoot in Flagstaff; I've been doing the Cottage Place/Brix/Josephine's circuit for a long long time now. And I think it's fair to say that Cottage Place is the most consistently excellent, but they seem to perseverate on those damn flambe desserts (one time at Cottage Place there were so many flambes going off at once we thought we were in Beirut.) Brix and Josephine's are a toss up. Anything duck at Brix is usually good. I ALWAYS get the Cesar salad with plenty of the excellent anchovies they have sourced out. Stay away from premium scotches at the bar -- they nailed me 16 bucks for the shortest pour of Lagavulin I've ever seen. The brought it to the table and my freinds and I looked at one another, appaled and amazed. A Monte Vista pour it was not. I'm guessing it was a miserly measured single fluid ounce. Other than that small trifle, if you're a foodie and enjoy taking risks Brix is worth a go.

We have been dining here since they opened a couple of years ago...and it remains one of our favorites in AZ . Locally grown ingredients where possible, grass fed for the beef, MSC sustainable for fish, great wine list, etc. Waiters knowledgeable and the service excellent. Its all delicious and served indoors or on the patio. Don't pass it up when you want a high quality dining experience.

Spacious and peaceful, the attention and accomodations given to my mobility- impaired step- father put me in the mood to enjoy this lovely place. I was not disappointed. Lovely wine service, unpretentious and informative. Mom's lamb chops were perhaps the best I've ever tasted, and despite my step-father's request that his steak be cooked well-done, it was juicy and flavorful. (I know because be only ate the frites, and I enjoyed the steak in a sandwich today!) I thought my delicious heirloom tomato salad was perfectly dressed with balsamic vinegar and pine nuts, and the pork belly with white beans appetizer was a fabulous blend of flavors. Manager helped walk step-father out to car, thank you! I peeked outside where several parties were eating in a lovely patio setting. We were the only ones in the dining room, and you'd have thought we were the only customers, we were so well served.

I loved the concept behind their organic and locally grown items on their menu, the decor was cute but honestly the food was unimpressive and the portions were tiny. Our service had a bit of a 'tude and the service was jus not good at all. I've dined at some of the finest restaurants all over the world and I was definitely disappointed with Brix.Sorry to say it but the menu was over priced the wine medocre and 1 star was probably more than what I really wanted to give them.

I left my daughters coat here. I called when I left to tell them. They called to remind me 2 days later. Then they donated it, even though it had my name and number on it. I had company and asked if they could hold it, sure, never ONCE did they tell me they donated stuff after a week or 2. The owners were very nonchalant, as if they hadn't done anything wrong. In the mean time they donated a coat, that my daughter could have worn this winter, and I had to buy another coat.$$$$ Piss poor customer service. I am boycotting them.

One of the top restaurants in Flag and highly suggested for any foodie. We had dinner here last weekend and we were highly impressed. We have added Brix as a warm addition to our other local Flag favorites like Josephines and Jackson's Grill. The menu was small but offered great selections and many fine wines. We had the smoked trout to start. Loved it! My wife had a golden beet ravioli and I had the duck breast. Both were excellent and were creatively prepared and presented. Stop reading this and go there! Yum!

I like fancy food. So, if you're looking for local ingredients and an elegant selection of appetizers, desserts like flourless chocolate cake and other amazing delicacies, come to a place like this. We ate on their gorgeous patio, enjoyed the filtered water in carafs, and an amazing meal with great service. I'd definitely dine here again.

We had an early Valentine's Day dinner at Brix this past weekend and it ended up being one of those really great, memorable meals. We were drawn to their emphasis towards seasonal, local ingredients and will definitely go back. We started with the gnocchi and wild boar. It was some of the best gnocchi I've ever had in my life. Our server asked the chef to come and so we got a play-by-play of his gnocchi approach right there. It was great. We also had the cassoulet. I've not had many cassoulets in the past but this one is superb. The beans were perfectly cooked and creamy, delicate. The texure was perfect and the flavor was deep and complex. We both had the steak frites. The steak was topped with clarified herbed butter and the frites were served with truffle butter. Such a simple dish but impeccable execution! The wine list was terrific and so was the dessert. I am still reveling in my "great meal" today!

This place is best tried for lunch...it is not worth the price for dinner as it is very expensive for what you get. I will say the quality is very high but the portions are very small like in where is the rest of my food kind of way. Conversely there are not too many fine dining places in Flag. so this is one of those places I am loathe to suggest but should try it a post an opinion. I feel that the negative reviews are your best guide line here as they seem more representative of what you will experience.

One of the most overrated restaurants in Flagstaff. While bread and butter is excellent, entrees tend to veer on the side of disappointing. I find the appetizers a better bang for the palate and wallet.

Truly one of the best dining experiences ever! Celebrating our anniversary, we had a spectacular dinner enhanced by our delightful and knowledgable server, Allie, who demonstrated her passion for the items on the menu by sharing her knowledge on the various cheeses and charcuterie (meats/pates), fabulous preparation of menu items and wines, thus ensuring our complete enjoyment of every course! The best grilled pork chop I've ever enjoyed. And who knew that roasted Brussels sprouts are actually delicious?! A unique ribeye prepared exquisitely, impressing my husband, who is a true steak connoisseur! Topped off with an excellent creme' brûlée! A truly remarkable dinner, enjoyed in an intimate room with only four 4-top tables in a converted carriage house with natural brick walls. We will definitely be back when our weekends away take us back to Flagstaff! With Sedona on our itinerary, we expected spectacular dining, but were pleasantly surprised when Brix in Flagstaff outshined our 5-star reservation in Sedona the following night! When you have the opportunity, put Brix on your dining itinerary! Thank you, Allie, for spectacular service that was truly the crown jewel of our delicious and leisurely (by choice) 24th anniversary dinner! We may make the 2-hour drive to Flagstaff just to have dinner at Brix!

Took a couple friends there, as the reviews were wonderful and liked the fact that they had a seasonal menu. The atmosphere was very nice and they had a lovely outdoor patio, but that encompasses the nice things I have to say about the place unfortuately. I was extremely disappointed with the very thing we went there for - to eat good tasting, seasonally fresh food! Truth be told, I've tasted better ceasar salad at the local pizzeria! Their version of a ceasar salad was 2 leaves laid on top of each other w/mayonnaise and a sardine sliced in half on top (the dressing had no taste). The sauteed spinach that came with the calamari appetizer was a complete salt lick - I could not even eat it. And even though the wait staff noticed that I left nearly the entire plate of calamari uneaten, she never even asked me about it or offered to take it off the ticket like most places that charge this much for their meals. I will never go there again!

Great experience. The food was delicious. I got the strip steak and a Prescot beer. The menu was new that day, so we were the first to try it. Most of the ingredients were local and the waitress knew it like the back of her hand. They even had antelope on special. The patio was perfect since it was so nice outside. We got a round of cheese and crackers as our appetizer. I'm not much into cheese, so I dont think I enjoyed it that much. It was a bit pricey, but I still thought it was a great meal. Coming from Phoenix, anytime I can sit outside at night in July is a good meal.

I wanted to like Brix - I really did. It's a very cool, intimate space and the menu and wine list are very nice. But that's about it. My experience didn't start too well. The hostess was friendly enough, but then I sat for several minutes before seeing anyone. After the water guy finally showed up and asked me what kind of water I wanted, he filled my glass. He came back to refill it (at least 2-3 minutes later) before I'd even seen my waitress. I finally asked him if he could get me a cocktail (the answer was no, he's only the water boy). After my server finally made an appearance, the service improved dramatically and was fine the rest of the meal. The food, however, was not up to my expectations. First, I hated the big, crunchy sea salt that's added to the butter. I had some great (and very hot) carrot soup, followed by a boneless half chicken served with a rice cake and green beans. The rice cake tasted OK, but was more like a rubber pancake.....I expect rice cakes to be stiff or crunchy. The sauce on the chicken was awesome; too bad the chicken itself was awful. The breast was cooked OK, but oddly hot in some places, and luke-warm in others. I then had my first bite of the thigh, and it was cold. Not moderately warm, but really cold. I had eaten enough at that point, so I didn't cause a stink, but I did point it out to my server (and even had her touch it to make sure she knew I wasn't exaggerating). So, the bottom line is that I expect more from a place where I'm going to pay $10 for a bowl of soup, $25 for an entrée and $20 for a half-bottle of wine. On my next trip to Flagstaff, I'll skip Brix.

Just spent the day in downtown Flagstaff, restaurant and bar hopping. Brix was a stop on our list and it was great. My partner and I sat at the bar to enjoy a glass of wine and their truffle frites. The wine was delicious and the fries were above par, though not the best I've had. The atmosphere is wonderful and the service was great. The bartender was charming, well educated, and entertaining. We'll definately return for dinner soon.

Brix is my absolute favorite restaurant in Flagstaff and has been for years! My fiance and I went in last night for an appetizer and a cocktail, and it was as wonderful as it always is. I've been to Brix on several different occasions: for celebration dinners, to show visitors the best place in town, and I love coming in for just a cheese plate and a glass of wine. The staff is always warm and incredibly knowledgeable, and I've always loved every bite of whatever I've ordered. I hugely appreciate knowing where my food comes from, and how it was grown and treated before it reached my plate. Their prices allow for the continued support of local farms, and I'm more than happy to pay for that. Last night we ordered the antipasta plate, with a beautiful selection of tastes, including homemade pickles, chicken pate with apple and apricot, cured duck, and some perfectly smoked salmon. Their cocktails are always on point, as well. Head over to Brix and enjoy wonderful sustainable cuisine, as well as an atmosphere frequently enjoyed by food-loving locals!

What a great find along Route 66! We were just in from the airport, driving to Williams at about 9pm at night. Found this restaurant on TripAdvisor and went for it! We got there just before last food orders and were lucky to be let in. The waiter was extremely tall and very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was delicious and very healthy. They had a nice cocktail list and even made a cute mocktail for our underage traveler! The decor is fun and the music is great. We were seated inside but could see a fun group of people enjoying their outdoor seating. Also a big group inside enjoying great wine. Seems like a great place for parties. I dont know when I'll ever be in Arizona again, but I definitely loved this place!

Brix did not disappoint. We were seated in the front room (1 of 3 and a patio) near the copper covered bar at a table for two amid only a few others for 4-6 people. Glad we made reservations since all the tables were full! The Basil Lemonada was refreshing and delicious and my friend enjoyed a Black Flag. Well made cocktails. I ordered the duck breast with polenta, & greens, all drizzled with a fig reduction. If I thought I could have gotten away with it I would have licked the plate clean! SO good! A perfect pairing of flavors. My friend ordered the evening special of Fiji snapper, puréed parsnips and favs beans....his plate was clean, too! Dessert was their lemon curd bread pudding. It didn't live up to the deliciousness of the main entrees, but was ok. Service was friendly and accommodating though the waiters seemed rushed. Perhaps they were low on staff. All in all, if we lived here, this would be a regular eatery for us.

Our 4th night in Flagstaff and this was the BEST dinner on our trip from San Jose. Fresh and creative items on the menu. Fantastic cocktails from Stephen in the bar. Outstanding service and cozy seating. This place came recommended from another server in town. Thanks, Michael!

This restaurant is a must do. I had a fabulous dinner, the bartender was friendly and super knowledgeable. Beautiful place and experience. I ordered dessert because my entree was that good. It's completely ok to go in alone, they were all so nice when I was served at the bar last night. Bravo!

Came here a few years back during N.A.U. Homecoming and it is just as good as it was then. Great on time and friendly service. Food was Yum and we think reasonably priced. We have only sat outside but they have a big bar with ample seating indoors.

Great place! small, cozy and great patio. Had the Beet salad, Shrimp and grits, soup of the day and the caramelized Brussel sprouts. Very good wine selection, great service and there was no rushing the patrons out the door. Definite plans to go back and enjoy more of the menu.

Great staff and food. Highly recommend reservations as we went @ 8:30 during the off season and still had a ten minute wait. It's just off of downtown and a little hidden so use your gps. Two of us ate for $100 with drinks and multiple courses.

We recently dined at Brix with some friends who had been there before - it was our first experience. Basically, it is an attractive, moderately upscale setting in an old building. The staff was friendly, etc., pretty much what other commenters have mentioned. My wife had the duck, one of their specialties, and she thought it was excellent. But the reason I am writing this review is my disappointment with the tagliatelle Bolognese. This is a particularly favorite dish of mine since I lived in Bologna, Italy and think of myself as reasonably knowledgeable not only about Italian food but also Bolognese food in particular. So, anyway, what was my problem? The problem was that this was not a Bolognese sauce but instead was just spicy tomato and meat sauce. There is no mention of this on the menu, and our server did not mention it, but after the meal had been served and I discovered how spicy it was, I heard a different server warn guests at the next table that the sauce was very spicy and that they should be aware that before ordering it. If only our server had been as thoughtful. So, if you want spicy tomato meat sauce on your pasta, be my guest and order this dish. But if you actually want a Bolognese sauce, one with subtle and rich flavors that are not obscured by a heavy-handed application of cayenne pepper, this is not it.

The choice to dine here was pure pot luck, as we knew nothing about the restaurant other than looking at their menu on line. Each dish was superb: Tomato and roasted pepper soup w/goat cheese, Duck breast w/ Blackberry reduction, roasted beet salad and more were all excellent. My wife and I both started with a hand crafted old fashioned muddled with fresh berries. Delicious. Through a conversation with the bartender we learned he makes the marinated cherries that he used himself. Nice touch! Brix was a great find! On the next visit, we will sit outside, weather permitting

Wow, we came here to celebrate our 36 th anniversary. We sat at the bar and had a fantastic time and meal. The bartender/manager served up some unique and awesome drinks. My spouse does not drink and she even partook. Ask for the Japanese drink and summertime. We learned a lot about different drinks. I had the fish special which was a Fiji snapper. It was easily the best fish I have had in Arizona. This meal was so good we may go back tomorrow night and that is our last night in flagstaff. Thank you Dave for a great night.

You're crazy if this place isn't on your list when visiting flagstaff. Shrimp and grits are off the charts. Everything was amazing. Will go back again and again. Sit in outdoor patio. Wonderful ambiance at night.

We were excited to go to Brix and we had heard that it was the best restaurant in Flagstaff. The outdoor patio was lovely, perfect weather and friendly waiter. The wine was very good as was the kale salad. But the steak frites had warm delicious fries with chewy hard steak, like a poor quality of meat which they tried to marinate to give it some flavor but it didn't work. Desert was good....and coffee was the best! Too bad the main course kind of blew the rating in this instance, but that should be the best part, right? Maybe we will try again, but this is an expensive place and should have top notch food.

Let me begin by saying I hadn't been to Brix in a few years, not because my previous experiences weren't good but because they were unremarkable. Let me say how wrong that opinion was. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with exceptional service. Dave their front end manager (new to the position since I had been there last) was incredibly knowledgeable about wine and food, we had any and all questions answered from the get go. His attentiveness was only out shown by our waiter Esteban. Esteban and Dave gave us their recommendations for our meals and I've learned in the past that this is always the way to go. We were given a complimentary amuse bouche from the kitchen which was a seared ahi tuna, it was delicious and perfectly cooked. Next came our small plate of brussels sprouts with bacon and butter. Hands down the best I've ever had and my significant other makes great sprouts (we eat them at home 3 times a week). When our entrees arrived the presentation was impeccable. The duck breast was a perfect medium rare and my pork belly was crisp on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. Finally, our dessert came, as recommended by Dave and Esteban we had the lemon bread pudding and the assorted house made ice creams. All were decadent and delicious. The bread pudding had a donut like texture, rich and buttery, just amazing. The trio of ice creams were incredibly pleasing. The berry and chocolate chip were definitely our favorites but the caramelized honey was quite delicious as well. With out a doubt the food at Brix is some of the best in Flagstaff. We have a number of good restaurants to choose from here though, and I think what separated Brix from the pack was the impeccable service. This is a well managed, knowledgeable front end.

In town during Valentine's Day so I called two weeks in advance for the prefix dinner. Little pricy $75 w/ $30 wine pairing but we had an excellent experience. Plenty and easy parking and when we were early for our reservation the accommodated us in just a few minutes. All four courses were incredible, though I believe the venison was medium, not medium rare, as quoted. Wonderful servers, plate delivery and chef came out to greet us. Wines were well paired with all courses, which of course makes the meal Ultimately a wonderful evening.

The service was great, cannot emphasize too much how great we were treated by our waitress. She was knowledgeable, kind and always there when we needed her. The food was great and at the same time not. I had the salmon which was delicious. The salmon was soft and falling apart as you inserted the fork. Wife had the steak frites which was subpar. The steak was not cooked well and had a stringy texture. Perhaps they had a bad night but definitely won't be trying that again. The fries it came with were excellent; thin and crispy which just the right amount of seasoning. To finish, we had the flourless chocolate cake. I almost swallowed that thing whole, that's how great it was. It was above a semi sweet flavor but it was buttery and smooth. It never became too much of a flavor to stop.

My husband and I chose Brix for our Anniversary dinner. We made reservations ahead of time which was a good idea because they were packed! Got there early and the hostess said there wasn't room at the bar to wait but we were welcome to sit outside in the front area. She offered us water while we waited, then ended up working us into the bar seating by adding a chair. The cocktails are cleverly named and creative. The bartender is very knowledgeable and we had a great discussion about local beer and wine. We had to wait a little longer for our table but that was because the hostess wanted to ensure we had a table outside on the romantic patio. She said she could tell I was dressed up for a special occasion and wanted to make sure we had a good table. I thought that was observant and very considerate of her! Our waitress was very informant and friendly (I can't remember her name...Dallas, maybe?). She had great suggestions and her guidance was well placed. The food was filling but not overbearing, simple but well combined. They topped it off with free prosecco for our anniversary! Very classy!

Fantastic experience at this spot! As a phoenix metro lifestyle magazine editor (with a food focus) I am excited to find gems like this location. You've got to go-- Best up-scale restaurant in Flag! Diners have opportunity to spend under $50 on a two person meal if desired, with the perks of fine dining. The staff was knowledgeable, welcoming, observational and just great. Especially Dave! He provided excellent service and was happy to share information on their excellent wines as well as their locally-sourced produce and meats. The market fish plate for that day was hands down the best fish i've EVER had, a snapper flown in fresh from Fiji. The chef is so creative that i'm sure every dish is amazing. This is a must for any foodie resident or anyone traveling through flag!

Wow! This is Flagstaff? A charming place with food that went beyond my expectations and inspired me to play in my own kitchen. Started with the cheese and meat board - loved everything on it, but might stick with the cheeses which were described to a T by our attentive waiter. The poached figs were the perfect cheese accompaniment. Followed this with a beautiful, silky, butternut soup that the kitchen split for us. 2 fowl entrees were perfectly cooked, but I wish I had made more room for appetizers and sides. Really duck confit poutine??? Next time!!

I have dined at Brix at least 7 times over the last three years. The first couple of visits I thought their ambitions outpaced their abilities to execute in the kitchen. Some good ideas, charming location but the food just still seemed Triple A. With the last two visits, I do think Brix has matured into the major league. They have developed an impressively creative local-centric menu that succeeds now across all courses ... and dietary needs. What used to be a boring and overpriced wine list has developed into a smart, compact one that gives good options for the usual suspects and thoughtful ones for less common varietals. The staff now seems more sure of itself, competent; and the lovely interior spaces now seem more so. The outside garden makes for a perfect summer dining spot. The do a very nice New Year's Eve prix fixe. In terms of inventiveness and execution in the kitchen, visually pleasing presentation, and service and ambiance to match, Brix is certainly the best restaurant in Flagstaff right now. (Tinderbox has some work to do, though I like it.) If you're after, inexpensive calories, definitely look elsewhere. But if you're willing to loosen your purse springs a bit and open your palate, Brix delivers a most satisfying experience. I can't wait to see how it evolves.

I came here with a group of friends to celebrate my wife's birthday. We sat on the patio. Between the service, the food, and the ambiance, EVERYONE went home beyond satisfied. We had the risotto which was a 10/10. The duck was a 8/10. The grits with jalepeno jam were 8/10. The ribeye was 8/10. The pasta was 8/5/10. Steven the bartender was the most knowledgable bartender we've ever encountered. What do you like? Wine, beer, gin, rum, whiskey, scotch, or mixed drinks? He knows it all. Dave was a great server. He knew the menu, he was friendly, he was fun. Finally; the wine list is superb. Great wines, chosen with discretion. The experience we had here was unbelievable. If it's like this every time we come, it's #1 in Flag (over Tinderbox).

What an awesome place! The service, wine, entrees, desert everything was great. We were sat at a table in the back which was great when there were not any other diners next to us. As others got seated it became a bit crowded and loud but nothing that really took over the atmosphere. It was such a nice treat from ordinary dining experiences and definitely a place I would want to go again to try something new.

Excellent food and great service. We originally sat outside but the bugs were too much and the staff was so great about letting us move. Also the waitress we had (Sarah) was fantastic. Super friendly and our meal was great. Everyone was super friendly. I had the risotto and my family had the pork belly and also pasta. Everything came out great and tasted amazing. I would definitely return when I come back to flagstaff.

I usually really like this place but tonight it was way off of its game. Not sure I could recommend it to anyone. When you are paying their prices you expect it to be fantastic or at least better than any other local Resturant one thing they are quick to get the check to you. Instead of being so sustainability conscious he should try getting a decent meal to their customers

Amazing food, great service, beautiful courtyard. This was my first trip to both Flagstaff and Brix and we had a great time. We sat in the courtyard, which i definitely recommend. At the start June, they put out heaters to keep you warm (I was coming from Phoenix and couldnt've been happier to be cool), but they were only barely necessary. We started with Brussels sprouts and a stuffed pasta with leeks and ricotta. The sprouts were crunchy and flavorful, the pasta delicate and delicious. They have wonderful cocktails. I ordered a vodka lemonade (with a much more clever name that I've forgotten) which was delicious on its own, but garnished with a sprig of fresh basil that you couldn't really taste, but when you breathed it in while you sipped, made the drink so interesting. My boyfriend ordered a Sazerac (we are both from New Orleans, so he's kinda a sazerac snob) and approved. I had the duck and he had the fish. My duck was cooked perfectly to medium rare, which, to me, means that's its probably going to be slightly rarer in the middle pieces than I'd like, in order to not have the outer pieces become over cooked and they hit that mark. We asked out waitress to pick our wine pairings and either she or the bartender picked great, mid range priced glasses for us. The meal was good enough that we decided to try dessert. The lemon bread pudding was better than any bread pudding I've had. It came pan fired but was light and delicious. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and knew when to back away from the table to let us enjoy ourselves. She had discreet help from the rest of the staff delivering dishes and clearing our table. A great place and experience.

Spring break getaway and my guy chose the restaurant, it did not disappoint. The service was excellent and the food, oh the food! He had his eye on the pork belly for weeks and it was spectacular! The charcuterie and cheese platter is a must! Don't pass up an opportunity to dine here!

I enjoyed my experience at Brix. I had the white fish with parsnip puree, crispy salsify, butter beans, chorizo vinaigrette, herb salad. I thought the fish was cooked perfectly; a light crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. I was a little skeptical about the sauces but they were delightful and complimented the dish well. I really enjoy butter beans but I would have liked for them to be a little more firm. They were a bit too mushy for my taste. For a wine bar I thought the selection was a little slim. I really wanted the wine from Page Springs because I usually like their wine but it was too light for me. So I ended up with the Malbec which was good. My associate had the Tagliatelle Bolognese which he thought was very good. However my other two guests thought their dishes were outstanding but unfortunately I can't recall what they had. If I go back to Flagstaff again I would definitely eat here again.

I'm confused by the other reviews, honestly. I went here last night with my son. No reservation, which at first seemed like it was going to be a problem but was not. I'm a bit of a foodie, admittedly, but I was treating myself. Appetizers ranged from various charcuterie (including, they said, some house-made stuff) and cheeses to a fried rabbit leg, various soups, and a shrimp appetizer that I had (grilled shrimp over a squash "fettuccine" and a creamy sauce with Spanish chorizo). My son, not being hungry, had only the chicken croquette appetizer (basically chicken meatballs in a tomato sauce with some greens that had another sauce). The shrimp were very good, as was the slightly cliche squash "fettuccine". The Spanish chorizo was nice. I was driving, so I did not drink any wine, but the wine list looked extensive, and there were some interesting mixed drinks as well as beers available. My son devoured his croquettes and said they were great. At the suggestion of our attentive waiter, I ordered the halibut. What I did not mention was that I had worked in Alaska and had a fairly high standard for taste and quality. No kidding, here in Flagstaff I had the best piece of halibut since I moved to Phoenix. It had pickled (if I recall correctly) onions on top (they looked pink like pickled ginger on sushi) and a pesto as well, and was on top of a light cream sauce with some gnocchi. The fish was cooked perfectly, amazingly flavorful, balanced. Even the gnocchi was good. I sopped the sauce with a piece of their table bread (which looked hand-made as well - which also came with good butter that was topped with brown salt - smoked?) As I said, I was treating myself, so we did get dessert. The choices were several chocolate cakes (flourless, German, possibly another?), some ice creams with interesting flavors, two different bread puddings and some different crèmes brûlées. I chose the peach bread pudding, my (formerly not hungry) son chose a cappuccino crème brûlée. I enjoyed the bread pudding, though there could have been more peach in it, and my son cleaned the crème brûlée dish out. This place is expensive. Like really expensive. The thing is, I am - see above - a bit of a foodie. The portions were small and while I don't mind getting a big portion if I'm looking for that, I am more than happy to pay for quality over quantity. You'll pay a lot, and maybe it's that which keeps this from being considered the top restaurant in Flagstaff, but I have not had a meal so well prepared, quality of food and care taken both to preparation and presentation, in a very long time. I will save up and I will be back!

The food was great and I love the way it looks but...I went there for my birthday, we ordered well, bottles of wine, etc and were told to use our "indoor voices". We weren't loud, we just laughed at something particularly amusing. A bit off putting for celebrations.

I saw a few bad reviews and to the contrary, I had a wonderful experience. The food was delightful. They served a salmon pate amuse bouche before our appetizer. When they said salmon pâté, I immediately thought "yuk" but to my surprise it was wonderful! Then we got the meat and cheese plate, all the cheeses and meats were delicious. I had the duck for dinner and my friends has the crispy pork shank. My duck was cooked perfectly with crispy seasoned skin over top of savory grits with plum sauce. I tasted the pork and it was also delicious! For dessert we shared the creme brûlée and I'm not a fan of creme brûlée, but it was so good! I will definitely be back!

As good as any Flag fine dining. the cocktails are herbacious and playful. The servers are attentive, polite and informative. We enjoyed our "date night" each week there over the summer on the patio and inside when raining. Wine list- YUM! Pinots to die for. And this is coming from a Napa Valley native. Cheese and acoutrement was perfect. We ordered squash blossoms, fried rabbit leg with apricot jam, beet salad, salmon and duck with cherry sauce...all amazing. Pass on the chicken which was average. We would go back in a heartbeat.

This is a great little place. A little off the beaten path, as most good places are. I had a chance to talk to the head chef who was excited to tell me about his dishes and how he prepared them. The server was very friendly and attentive. This place is a little pricey however you get what you pay for. Not quite a jacket and tie restaurant but definitely not someplace I would feel comfortable in a hoodie and jeans. Bottom line is you get professional dishes here and foodie like myself finds these places refreshing. Highly recommend if you are looking for a special meal.

My husband and I dine-out frequently, (2-3x a week); and these are at fine-dining restaurants. It's nothing for us to drop up to $150-bucks for each of these dining experiences. We're an older couple and have that kind of disposable income and, since food is one of our pleasures in life, why not? As for Brix: We cannot recommend this restaurant. The ambience is lovely, the service fabulous, but the food is just LOUSY. It's certainly not good enough to charge the prices they do but, as well, it's not good enough at even half-price! Unfortunately for Brix, (for all the ambience and service), they forgot to hire a CHEF! Geez. When we dine, we are looking for that 'Oh, my god, I've got to have that again'. You will not get this sensation at Brix. Sad, but true. It really chapped our 'you-know-what' to have dropped $140 for the LOUSY food at this place only to get in the car and go find someplace else to actually eat a decent meal. UGH, UGH, UGH. As such, we will not be returning, nor, in all good conscience, recommending Brix to anyone.

Great food and service. I had the farm chicken and my girlfriend had the mushroom risotto. Both of our meals were outstanding. For desert we had the lemon brulé and the salted caramel semifreddo. The brulé was ok, but the semifreddo was great! I wish I remember our servers name because he did an outstanding job of answering our questions and making recommendations. I will definitely go back to Brix next time I am in Flagstaff

Good service. The staff is nice and attentive. She checked on us frequently and made sure our glasses were always full, the meal was served on time, and dishes were always cleared quickly. While we were there, we ordered a cheese plate. The cheese and bread were divine and well priced. Our wine was very good, and by mistake we were given a very expensive bottle but the waitress was happy to correct the price from the outlandish bottle we were given and the $30 bottle that we ordered. Again, that speaks to the great quality of service at Brix. However, I do not plan to go back. The main course was extremely disappointing. I ordered the seasonal pasta dish. It was the only vegetarian option available, and the waitress spoke very highly of it. That said, when it arrived I was displeased by the overall quality of the dish. The sauce was bland, the pasta was over-cooked, and the vegetables in the dish were cooked beyond recognition and, for lack of better words, mushy. I hear plenty of good things about the food at Brix, but it is clear that the people who recommend it are not vegetarians. It is possible that the meat dishes are fabulous, but I will never know. VEGETARIANS BE WARNED: The veggie friendly offerings are pitiful. You're better off going somewhere else.

The food is quite good. I appreciate the local support that this restaurant puts into their cuisine. However, the price is a bit much. Perhaps I'm cheap... Ok, I'm cheap. But the prices are astronomical. I was there with a very large group and our bill was covered so thank god for that. This is one of those places I would never be able to go to if I were to pay for it.

This is an amazing restaurant with exceptional food. The atmosphere and ambiance is warm, friendly and very quaint. Out server was attentive, helpful and very knowledgeable. I had the duck breast which was cooked perfectly with crispy skin, juicy moist meat and very flavorful. The sauce and vegetable medley served with the duck made a succulent and wonderful flavor combination. My fiance had the bolognese with handmade pasta and ground NY Strip steak. He doesn't usually care for bolognese but the pasta was light with great texture and the sauce had such fantastic flavors he was won over by the dish. We would recommend this to anyone who wants great flavor, a pleasant and friendly atmosphere and good service.

I knew I felt something familiar when I walked in to Brix. It was like meeting someones sister without being introduced. I knew I recognized her, same facial features, same mannerism, same voice... I had been to Criollo last time I was in Flag (about a week prior) and fell in love with the restaurant. Brix is charming and delicious and may one day be as wonderful as her sister Criollo. The patio was gorgeous, it was comfortable and the tables were well spaced. When we were seated I immediately noticed the wonderful aroma of herbs all around us. Brix had a pretty impressive wine list, (I think I saw well over 100 bottles to choose from). The only complaint I have is how slow they were to take and deliver our orders. It is a good thing we were in the mood for a long relaxing dinner. They were out of the Fried Green Tomatoes (booooo) so I started with the Heirloom Tomato Salad. It was served with a basil-shallot vinaigrette, balsamic reduction and pine nuts. Excellent. I opted for the scallops for my main, and while they were very fresh and good, they were a bit overcooked. My Bf's mom told me both times before the fish had been overcooked (note to chef?) My Bf and his pops both ordered the Steak Frites Au Poivre. A grilled New York strip, served with fries and a truffle aioli. The steak was good but the frites were so salty they were barely edible. The quality of the ingredients are exceptional, as is the design and layout of the restaurant. A little more attention paid to the preparation of the food and promptness of the service and this would turn in to a five star review.

I ate here awhile back. All I can say is that it is over hyped, weird, half-assed, garbage. Nothing I had was decent at all. It was expensive and boring. I have not been back and don't plan on it. Too bad this location is wasted on this place. Oh sorry the wine was good but they did not make it so we were safe. Cheese too. But anything prepared by them sucked. I tried all our meals and they were all below average for such a place. I am a bit of a bitch when in comes to food. If it aint right then I have no reason to come back and spend money again on shit food. There are only a handful of places in Flag worth eating at. This is clearly not one of them. Save your money and time! This place is crap! Total Crap! I cannot believe we spent $150.00 on this. I am actually surprised they are still in business really. The concept and food are all OFF!! If any reviews are rated more than 2 stars, the reviewer has no culinary taste. Basically what I am saying is they have no clue what they are talking about with food and have no idea what it is suppose to taste like. I can say that for the Brix chef too!

Brix kind of sucks. Both Frommer's and Lonely Planet told me it was one of best modernist restaurants in Flagstaff. The dining room, service and whole ambiance was a bit off. That aside the food was not very good. Calamari was exactly what you'd expect, fried calamari. Salads were crisp. The duck was cooked pretty much perfectly but the rest of the dish did not come together. Pork shank reminded me a packet gravy, but, the real mistake of the pork was cabbage that was WAY over seasoned - I moved it to the side of my plate and did not touch it. Bread pudding came out cold; and I don't mean cold center, the whole thing was cold. I'd never go here again or recommend it.

Great place if your looking just to have wine and a cheese platter. As for their menu items meh.. For the price I expected it to be better. Not worth the $30+ you pay. Food was cooked with too much salt maybe might like it but I don't. I did however enjoy sitting outside enjoying the glass of wine. Cute and quiet if your here at the right time. Definitely recommend outdoor seating.

The BF and I went here the when we were in Flag last week. We both enjoyed the food. We shared the pumpkin soup which was very good. Sweet with a hint of spice. It had some really tasty fried sage and goat cheese on top. Also, we had their bread with the butter with pink salt on top...for those that don't like that...you're crazy. That salt was awesome (maybe I just really like salt...not sure). For dinner, I had the steak frites which were tasty. The steak was cooked well and had a lot of flavor. It had some delicious onion concoction with it that really added to the overall flavor of the steak. The fries were nice and crispy. The bf had the short ribs which were sooo good. They were falling apart tender and served over a creamy polenta, so delicious. For dessert we had the chocolate cake with the semifredo......ohhhh soooo good! The only problem with the meal was it was a bit slow and we waited around for food for a bit, but it didn't take an extremely long time. Overall, it was very good, the place is expensive, but not unheard of. I would go back for a special occasion.

My partner and I were very pleased with our meals. The shrimp and grits rivals anything in New Orleans, and this means a lot coming from someone who lived in New Orleans for years. The brussels sprouts small plate was a little salty, but still good. The Caesar salad was great with anchovies that were perfect. The French onion soup was heavy on the beef flavor, which my partner didn't like, but I did. Finally, the seared duck was divine, but the pork shank was overdone and dry. I would give the food 3 stars, but our service was perfect. The server was extremely knowledgable and not overbearing. He executed all his steps of service without missing a beat and deserves 5 stars. Overall, a 4 star experience.

We were entertaining people very special to us a couple of weeks ago. I called 3 days in advance to reserve a table for 4 inside the restaurant---because it was supposed to rain. We arrived to find we had been assigned to an outside table. I asked what would happen if it rained and was told that we would be brought into the bar and could sit there until a table opened up---not a good option. But we obeyed. We ordered cocktails and specified the alcohols by brand. 15 minutes later a very self important waiter informed us that they did not offer imported liquors and were only offering products of small distilleries in this country. All right, we were game. However the gimlet tasted like lime-aid and the martini tasted like medicine. We sent them away. The risotto was promised with a bit of a salad---which turned out to be a few tiny green leaves.. Anchoring the risotto were candied pecans---an off flavor for a cheesy risotto. The duck was good. Mainly, it was the service that made the evening so unpleasant. The evening was not about our pleasure--it was about them. We will not go back. Anne G

We had the 7-course price fix menu for NYE. The steak and service was good, but every other course was disappointing. For the price (85/person), I would expect the food to be hot, and flavorful-not lukewarm and bland. Very disappointing, we probably won't be returning.

We sat inside. It was a not too loud and there was nice, attentive staff. I had a spinach and mushroom ravioli. Par for mine. Couldn't really taste the mushroom. My wife had steak frites. She felt it was too dry and a bit charred. Here's the thing about steak frites: The fries are served on the plate and soak up some of the juice. This had the fries separate and the steak had no residual sauce. It's a small detail, but that is what makes a good restaurant great. Finally, the wine list (although good) was triple and more our wine cellar costs. So the final verdict is 3 out of 5. You have to nail the basics in the kitchen to charge what they do... and they absolutely did not.

We had a large group dine here a week ago at the end of a long business day. The staff was welcoming and helpful and acted as if waiting on a dozen or so people was the best thing they could be doing. The wine selection was great, as was the menu. My dinner was prepared perfectly. This was one of a number of great places to eat in Flagstaff and I look forward to a return visit.

As a part time Flagstaff resident, I had always heard about Brix, but had never been. What was I waiting for? While I'm caught in the middle of loving really good food and also hating small portions (I'm a large and hungry guy) I still was very happy with both the service and the food. And yes, I know fine dining is different than Cheesecake Fat Factory or Outback Pigout, but I still like healthy portions. We shared the beet salad and ravioli which were just tasty as apps. I ordered the pan seared Branzino, a skin-on sea bass with a truffle something on the side. Loved it! I would have licked the plate, but hey, it's a nice place. While not practical budget wise for eating here on a weekly basis, it's a great spot for at least a semi special occasion. I really wanted to give a 4.5 but oh well. TIp: Hit up Steven the bar manager for any tips on other things to do or places to eat in Flagstaff.

I have been enjoying Brix now for the last four years since moving to Flagstaff. If I lived here or if were just visiting I'd recommend Brix hands down. I continue to return time and time again for the seasonal menu that change four times yearly; the friendly, knowledgeable staff and the amazingly warm ambiance. My favorite place to sit in the restaurant is the bar because it allows the opportunity to talk to other locals, visitors passing through town and the staff who come back and forth to the bar as they serve other tables. Eating outside on the patio is also recommended as it provides a quaint, intimate, candlelit-garden setting, especially for special occasions for that someone you love! I definitely think Brix patio is one of the best evening spots in Flagstaff to enjoy a meal. The wine list is expansive and includes a well-versed variety across the board with US, European, as well as South American. If you can't decide what to select ask your waiter or the manager and they'll be happy to point you in the right direction based on your tastes or to pair with your meal. Brix also carries a comprehensive bar with many unexpected hard liquors that you won't find at every restaurant in Flagstaff. They even have mezcal. Brix is located approximately 3 blocks north from downtown Flagstaff making it very accessible. The ample parking is definitely a bonus if you don't feel like fighting downtown crowds on a busy evening to land a parking spot. I hope you enjoy it too. Bon Appetit!

We dined at Brix for the first time last night and we loved it. The food was excellent. We started with a cheese platter, with several different cheeses on the menu to choose from. The appetizer included homemade lavosh crisps, poached apricots and figs, Queen Creek Olives, and grain mustard. It was great. We also had the Caesar Salad and the Carrot soup. Wow, the Carrot soup was amazing, nothing like I expected. It was creamy and very tasty. The Caesar salad my wife had was perfect, which were Romaine spears that were very lightly coated with the Caesar dressing. We then both had the Steak Frites for the main dish. The steak was perfectly cooked, was very tender and very tasty. The service was great as well. Our waiter was very attentive and very knowledgable. He especially helped us choose between the different cheeses. We will definitely be dining at Brix again the next time we are in town.

The atmosphere of this restaurant was fantastic. I was very excited to try it out. I went with a group of 7 while visiting from Phx. I had pre-looked at the menu and knew it was pricey but was prepared for it. However, when the food arrived it was not worth the price at all. The cheese board we ordered was the only thing that stood out. And then to top it off our waiter was terrible. I don't use that word often, but when you go to a restaurant like that and pay that kind of money for dinner you also expect the service to be amazing. He more than ruined the experience for everyone in our group. At one point he actually had a melt down and turned and left our table in the middle of naming the cheeses on the board. We couldn't figure out what we had done to make him this angry that he had to walk out. The remainder of our meal he was short and cold. Besides him (WOW!) the rest of the staff was friendly. Sure wish we could have had someone else serving us. There are too many other good restaurants in Flagstaff to eat at and pay half the cost.

Excellent. Really really excellent. My boyfriend and I ate here last night as a late birthday dinner for my 21st, and I couldn't have been more excited to drink some fancy wine with my dinner! The man got a glass of Vinho Verde from Portugal, which was awesome! I've never seen in a restaurant before, only in a store like Total Wine. I got a really nice Pinot Noir from Napa. The patio was a lovely place for us to enjoy our night together. Their menu changes daily, so I doubt that any of what I describe will make sense after a couple days or so, but if you want an awesome appetizer, get an antipasti plate. The house made lavosh is super crispy and light, and they always have a really nice spread of cheeses and meats to sample. With house made pickles, how can you go wrong??? We also sampled the shrimp and grits, which was ultra flavorful and cooked perfectly. For our entrees, I got the pork belly over spinach risotto, accompanied by port poached cherries. I'm a sucker for the pork belly, but this really blew it away for me. Crispy on top, tender and oh-so-calorietastic throughout. The flavors all complimented each other perfectly. As for the boy, he got the risotto entree, and if it were socially acceptable, he would have licked the plate clean. Not only do their entrees change nightly, but it appears as though their desserts do too! We finished our meal with a peach semifreddo, So. Freaking. Good. Best ice cream of my life, hands down. I don't even care how many calories I consumed last night, because I died and went to culinary heaven. As if all this wasn't enough, the very attentive and friendly service made this night perfect, and I can't wait to eat here again

Solid menu with execution that cannot be faulted, it's best to stick with simple dishes where flavors of the quality ingredients shine - steak + frites for example. Ambiance is good with separate small rooms providing an intimate feel. Gorgeous patio. Professional and knowledgeable staff. high prices.

This restaurant was right behind the B&B we were staying at. We had just gotten in to Phoenix from Philly and had driven up to Flagstaff. It's 6:30 Flagstaff time but 9:30 our time, we were hungry. We called and they said we couldn't get a table, but they could sit us at the bar. Did I mention we were hungry? We are at a wine bar so what do we order? I get a local beer and my wife a specialty cocktail, an orange julep. She loved it. The beer was good too, but bottle, not draft (its a wine bar lol). I got the soup of the day, a seafood bisque, excellent. Entrees were the Cavatelli and the Rabbit Sugo. They were really good. Dessert? Well, we'd had enough but the real dessert, served throughout the meal was our interaction with the bartender. He was very personable, maybe a part owner, definitely comes up with his own drink combinations, and was very knowledgeable of the area.

We were here on 4/2. If you like fried food, dine here. The menu was so unimaginative it shocked us. For appetizers Carrot soup, cheese plate, beet salad, only protein: fried rabbit. The rabbit was tough and I kept getting bites of cracked pepper which overshadowed the entire dish. We had a wine that they DID NOT KNOW THE YEAR it was called "The Riddler" from some private vineyard out of Napa. It was acceptable and the only bottle under $70. The bartender came from around the bar and dribbled it all over our table. Our server apologized for his bumble. Their side accompaniment: baby carrots (wow carrots again), fried brussel sprouts and something so boring I can't even remember. The entrees: weird cut of some obscure supposed Sea bass, steak frite(French fries) chicken, and RISSOTTO for an entrée! HUH? We ordered the steak (rare) and the sea bass. The fish arrived in a BOWL swimming with OIL approx. 1 inch thick. The bass was 1/8 of inch thickness and about 5 inches long and had the skin on. As the dish was brought out and even before set in front of me..it smelled like low tide. HORRID. I have NEVER in my life been served such a mess. The steak frite arrived cooked MEDIUM and thin little strips. It was on a HUGE bed of barely cooked carmelized onions. he frite...was SO GREASY it made McDonalds fries look healthy and they were TASTELESS and over salted. The brussel sprouts arrived trailing after the entrees. Ball drop in the kitchen. I sent the fish back immediately, and replaced with the steak order and mine came out thicker-a more normal cut and RARE as ordered. The steak was acceptable but the only other thing on the plate, the HUGE bed of onions, was gross and my frite was so greasy I sent it back immediately with nothing to replace. The server was understanding and apologetic she comped dessert. The tiniest portion of crème Brule arrived, thankfully, it was very good. The house rasberry ice cream was bland and unimaginative. That night...we BOTH had indigestion and will NEVER eat here again. We spoke with some locals about this place the next night at another restaurant in town and THEY AGREED that this restaurant has severely gone downhill. Nothing healthy and no entrée balance with seasoning on anything we tasted except for the crème brule. Absolutely TERRIBLE cuisine and the chef does not know what he/she is doing.

Our first visit to this place started out a little rocky. We had made a reservation, which was a must. We arrived a little early and was greeted by the hostess with, "did we have a chance to make a reservation this evening?" Maybe I am being a little overly sensitive, but to me, that sounds pretentious. In any case, we sat out on the patio waiting for a table to open up (the bar was full). Even though there were 2 or 3 tables inside that were empty, we waited about 10 minutes before the hostess offered us a table inside. After that point, it was smooth sailing. Our server was Steven and he recommended us an awesome spread of cheeses! There were so many different kinds from different animals and regions. He was also very knowledgeable about the wine, which was impressive. Entrees were good, but didn't blow my mind. My husband had the flank steak which was cooked to perfection. I had the handmade tortellini, which was good, but not the best I've had. The pasta reminded me of wonton skin, which is good, but not appropriate for tortellini. To summarize: decent food, excellent cheese and wine at a decent price.

Unless you enjoy the feeling of being fleeced, Brix may rub you the wrong way. It certainly doesn't deserve more than two stars: one for the decor' and one for the service. The food, that's another story... For their sake, I really hope they can improve it. My son and I had dinner here tonight, or should I say- we had two salads, two drinks, (one gingerale & one glass of wine), and one pasta entree, which set us back $70! The food at Brix IS SUB-PAR, & GROSSLY OVERPRICED. (Consider yourself warned)... To their credit, the wine list is extensive, and the by the glass offerings are well thought out. I couldn't believe the bottle prices though. The first one that caught my eye was $450 for a bottle of California Cab. WHAT??? In Flagstaff. Not even in NYC would you pay those kind of prices. I had a glass of Washington Syrah, which for $8 was THE ONLY thing we purchased here that I can say offered any sort of value. Typically Washington wines are under-rated, and the Syrah (in my opinion) offers a much better value than a 2009 Bordeaux for $9 per glass. The Bordeaux is is still too young to really enjoy, as it needs to age to reach its full potential. We each started with a salad. My son, the Caesar ($9) which is not the traditional Caesar, but a small Caesar wedge. According to my son, the dressing was lacking in flavor, and he had to add lemon to give it sufficient flavor. Two whole anchovies were thrown in- I guess for good measure- but they did almost nothing to carry the salad, save for showing that it had real anchovies. I had the spinach, date, and blue cheese salad (also $9), which, even though a very small serving I must say was pleasing to the palette, but a tad on the salty side. We also had a small serving of tasty French bread from the Village Bakery, which was served with butter that we were told was topped with Hawaiian sea salt. The bread and butter with sea salt were well received by both of us. I had ordered an appetizer for my entree' because I had a late lunch. Honestly, I was extremely turned off by the entree' prices, which are all in the $32-$39 range, save two pasta dishes: one for $23 and one for $25. The smoked chicken, poblano, bean appetizer ($10) is served in a small blue casserole dish. I took one bite of it, and nearly gagged. It tasted like PURE SALT. I could taste nothing else- not even the supposed poblano chile. Needless to say, it was literally inedible, and I sent it back. The waitress was prompt in checking with me to see if I wanted to order anything else, but I was so turned off by everything being so highly salted (the salad and the bread were very salty, but not to the same extent as this "smoked chicken/poblano" casserole), that I said, "No thanks, I'm good..." The manager or owner- or whoever he was came back to tell me, "We took it off the check." I just said, "Okay, thank you," but was thinking- "I hope so, because it was not even edible." My son had the Pasta Bolognese, which for $25 was a MAJOR RIPOFF! It was literally about 1/2 cup of Fettuccini, 1 cup of ground beef (the large proportion of meat to pasta was odd), and some stewed tomatoes. It had a decent flavor, but I have no idea how they feel they are justified to charge $25 for this dish. It's an obscene rip off, and by the time I saw and tasted it- I was ready to head for the exit. The waitress knew I was unhappy, but she had a lot of grace about it , and apologized, "Sorry you didn't like your food." I said truthfully, "It's not your fault." Glad we had a nice waitress, and the place itself is charming, but the food and the prices are so far out of whack. Sorry Brix, I will never be back.

Service was decent, it seemed a little slow and could have been paced a slight bit better (partly our fault as we were taking a long time to order), but they kept our glasses full and someone was always around. Price was worth the food. The bill was around $250 after tip and without drinks, which isn't bad for 5 people. I had the Duck breast (medium rare), which was excellently prepared, amazing flavor. The presentation was great as well. I tried the chicken in a mint chimmichuri (spelling?), it was great as well. So were the Scallops (but not a lot of food), New York was well done, and I wasn't a fan of the beef cutlet. Yes, I tried some of everybody's dish, it is what you should do when going to someplace the first time. The environment is purposeful, all the way to the trees lit up with white christmas lights in the parking lot. Great spot for a date. Park down town and walk up the hill then walk back on a nice dark night. So far my favorite place in Flagstaff. My only point of contention: They do have this whole thing about sustainable cooking, therefore they use seasonal veggies and their menu changes, while this sounds great in theory, sea scallops aren't common in these parts. They do list where most things come from and should be applauded for moving this direction.

This is my favorite spendy restaurant in Flag. The food is consistently fresh and unique and the service is fantastic. The steak frites were incredible and the teahive cheese on the salad made the salad really special. Fantastic.

Terrific options that change almost daily depending on what the chef can get. Good wine list, enough local and craft beer selections to make almost everyone happy. Lively, but not too loud, atmosphere and a great patio. Couldn't be much better!

Brix features outstanding fresh vegetables, and quality meat and fish in creative preparations. My wife and I visited Brix for dinner and I was very pleased with the food and service. Our appetizer was the grilled flatbread which featured olive oil, another sauce I can't think of field greens, onions and sausage. It was excellent and the perfect size to share. For dinner we both had the NY strip with garlic butter and fries and greens. The fries fresh cut in house, excellent and served with their own hollandiase like sauce on the side. Service was friendly and professional without being pushy. The servers know their menu. Brix reminds me of the good restaurants from back east and so far is the best in Flag as far as we are concerned. Dinner for two, with a couple glasses of wine, tax and tip will comes out to around $135.

Recommended as it is an award winner in Flagstaff and the state. We went for our anniversary dinner. I had the Tandoori rubbed lamb shank and my wife had the roasted chicken risotto. It was good, but not great. For our dining experience, it didn't match up to the award winning stature that we had set as our expectation. The dessert was fantastic in contrast and the appetizer/soup were also fabulous (carmelized onion soup and bruschetta). I think I just chose the wrong item for me. The lamb just had a lot of spices going on, none of which really complimented themselves for my taste. The bread, however, was awesome. I'm not sure if I'd give it another try (we don't live in Flagstaff) but only because we're constantly trying new things.

We enjoyed the cheese and meat platter. The wine was excellent. Our dinners, however, were not so impressive. For $36.00 I expect my rib eye to be seared and seasoned, instead I received a piece of meat I could have prepared myself at home, nothing special. 2 of the dinners at the table arrived cold, one was so cold it had to be returned to the kitchen. For all the hype we had heard about this restaurant, it was not worth the $400.00 it costs the 4 of us. I'd rather go to the Cottage Place.

Zagat only recommended pizza for Flagstaff so we used the Google and came up with Brix. Finding this restaurant was like looking for your friend's moms house in the suburbs. It looked more like a church museum then a restaurant but once inside we were immediately treated as royalty even though unshaven and unshowered, we broke the deodorant in San Fransisco. The menu boasted all different kinds of awesome cheese and New American - French style dishes. We started with 5 cheeses, all of which werephenomenal. From Colorado to Switzerland we ate cheese. The Brandi brazed apricots and figs with house made lavash completely tied it together. Second, we had the charcuterie plate which consisted of an OK country pork pate (I have never eaten Pate before, but it is the consistency of Spam and Jay say got mad at me for insisting that Spam was a type of Pate), an absolutely killer duck procuito, grilled bread, house made whole grain mustard, and grilled eggplant and squash which was great. We must reiterate, the duck procuito was truly magical. Next came the pancetta wrapped scallop, pumpkin resotto and frissee salad. It was damn good and by the end of it we were both full with two entrees coming. I have to be honest, it was not as good as the bacon wrapped scallops at my cousin's wedding. Although both of us are proud Jews, indulging in your general pork products is truly magical. duck procuito, grilled bread, house made whole grain mustard, and grilled eggplant and squash Our two entrees came, the first was braised lamb shank, green lentel ragout and cumen seared baby carrots. It was pretty killer but we were too stuffed and he was missing something from his braising liquid. Jay cooked better lamb earlier this week on a mountain in a tire rimmed bbq (but that is not to speak lower of this lamb, for all lamb is lamb). Then on my side of the table, we had pan seared duck breast, hari covert (green beans) and oyster mushroom pirogis and herb glace (reduced stock). The duck was good, and I'll eat it again but a year from now I will not remember that duck. Now the fact that the food was good at best does not take away from how good of an experience we had. braised lamb shank, green lentel ragout and cumen seared baby carrots PS: The Hendix gin and tonic at Brix was perfect.
