Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

***UPDATE*** 9-23-2014 - Finally found a decent dish here - try the steak tacos (soft shell not crunchy). So happy to find something with flavor here. First time in a half a dozen visits. Chips were warm but either the chips or the salsa tasted of cheese and it was salsa, not queso....hmmm. Elsa behind the bar is a delight. She has the best smile and makes the Hubs and me feel like family. So, that goes a long way. This Las Trajos is just like all other LTs, cute painted chairs and colorful interior. My guac salad was disappointing in that it had a flavorless center "aisle" of guac atop a bed of shredded iceburg lettuce. I expected the guac to be "the star" and it was a supporting act to the tomato slice, the iceburg and cojita (sp?) cheese. I didn't *get* the reason for having the shredded Mexican cheese on a guac salad, but maybe I am missing something. The side beef taco was BLAND, inside a stale shell. Soooo, I scraped the meat out and made my own "taco salad" by putting the meat on the guac salad and topped it all up with their salsa. They have a full bar (no alcohol sales in restaurants in Athens on Sundays, however), and have wine and beer. The bartender, Noel, was really nice and fun and the food is served quicker than you can "shake a stick at." So, if you want super-fast, under seasoned Mexican food, pop into LT, it's in the same strip mall as Publix in Athens. They have "live team trivia" on both Monday and Thursday, I believe and it is from 7-8 acccording to Noel.

We love Las Trojas in my house. Great atmosphere, beautifully decorated, helpful and charming staff, delicious food, live music on the weekend, trivia night (with prizes) during the week, full bar, and did I mention the food? It's delicious. Seriously good stuff. This place is a family favorite.

Great restaurant, probably this best Mexican restaurant in Athens. The food is consistent, the drinks are made well, the staff is friendly, plenty of seating and nice decor. This is a great place to hang out with friends and family to get the night started. I am a regular here. I haven't had anything I didn't like. They also have great lunch specials that get you in and out if your on lunch.

Great Mexican food! Our waiter proved to be nothing short of spectacular. I've had better chips and salsa but the fajitas were most excellent. Liked the atmosphere and especially the elephant foot beer mugs!

Very Bad! Do not go to this place. The first clue was the chips and salsa, the salsa was good but the chips were low rate. The service was poor because the drink order was not correct. The food arrived as if it was two separate orders. The second entree arrive 10 minutes later. The food had a taste of cheap can food. It was so bad I could not eat it. The waiter was told the food was bad and the manager did not nothing. I paid my bill, left and vowed to never return.

How does this place have only 1 review? This is indeed the best Mexican in the area. It's kind of "divey" compared to Rosie's but I prefer it over Rosie's! They are good at what they do. It's not the street food type mexican that You can get at cazadores (my favorite mexican place), but for what they do, it is the best. This is what Bandito Burrito should be.

It was average Mexican cuisine, but the quacamole was fresh and the drinks were stout.

Best Mexican in the area! The chicken soup was awesome, I kept eating and Still have enough for at least one more meal. Yum. My brother had fajitas with chicken, steak and shrimp that was also yummy. Prompt, attentive service. I' d guess it can get a little noisy, the have several large tables for bigger groups. The place was hopping and close to full on a Sunday afternoon at 2 pm. Would go back in a flash. Located in the new Publics shopping center the space is beautifully decorated, not your normal ticky tacky stuff hanging from the ceilings!

This is a great restaurant. Their salsa is good, chips are good and the food is good. I especially love their angel plate which is a huge burrito fried in a huge flour tortilla with chorizo spicy pork, grilled chicken, grilled steak, grilled shrimp with grilled onions. Then smothered in queso. Wow. Has a little of everything and is super tasty and just around $10. It's a full meal. The wait staff is informative, friendly and attentive. The restaurant is large restaurant that is clean and well decorated. Prices are good and won't break the bank. Good job guys, keep up the good work!

Sat immediately on arrival despite arriving well into lunch hour for business lunch. Was able to order as soon as we were ready and food arrived promptly except for 1 of party. Never had to ask or wait on refills. Overall quantities seemed slightly larger that average. My Pollo and rice were seasoned just right. Salsa and chips were average but nothing special. Would definitely return when in area.

Great salsa/Mexican food, wonderful atmosphere/service, and right off the interstate. We were craving Mexican after a week of seafood in Florida. Yelp located 2 right off the interstate. Decided to go here vs the other. New shopping center, large restaurant, this was a very good stop. Enjoyed a fajita chicken burrito. Good menu too
