A great fast place to sit down and have a delicious meal. I recommend the steak king burrito

I have been to Taco King many times. I usually order a couple beef gringo taco's with rice and beans, but have tried several things from the menu. Overall I think Taco King has decent, fast, Mexican food for the price. I mean its not really a sit down dinner kindof place, more like fast food Mexican. The ingredients always seem fresh when I order, I usually get a side of guacamole and extra cilantro. Their guac is homemade and really good, and I like the variety of salsa's and condiments that they have to dress up your order with (the pico de gallo rocks!.) I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants in town, spent much more to eat then I normally do at Taco King, and gotten food that wasn't near as good. If your looking for a quick meal thats tasty, fills the space, and won't break the bank in terms of cost try Taco King. You won't be disappointed.

Pretty much the best Mexican in terms if food for the price. I have a lot of the different items and it's all good. It's interesting because I have a bad review for Burrito King on 36th and A st and it's the same local franchise. My friend goes to that one and he swears it's top notch for lunch. I like the one on Huffman and the original Taco King on N. Lights and A st...I think it's N lights. I go mainly for dinner so maybe it's different. But typically you can't go wrong. Highly recommend!

I haven't been more sick in the past 10 years than after a meal here earlier this week. While visiting friends in Anchorage, my wife & I enjoyed a number of fine meals, as well as several value restaurants, and this happened to be the last meal of our 7 day trip. While my local friends have eaten here '1000s' of times without incident, my one time was an epicly nauseating failure. My wife and I both ordered carne asada- mine was a burrito, hers was a taco plate. Going down, the food tasted just ok (but not bad)- perhaps 2-2.5 stars, but quite poor in comparison to my 'regular' Mexican options back home in SF. The morning after was a different story, and while I will spare you the gory details, I will simply say that I was extremely ill, my wife less ill, and my friends who did NOT have carne asada were fine. Needless to say, I will NEVER return...and you should do so at your own risk.

There is authentic mexican food here, but Im sure it is more tasty in Mexico. Most of the dishes I have had since coming here I could make myself at home... Taco salad, cheese quesadillas, etc. So if you want something you cant make at home, order cow stomach! Yep, they have it (my dad ordered it). I will agree it has the atmosphere of a high school cafeteria. This place to to small for the business it gets, the line has to go right through the eating area. When you are done with your plates and cups, they have a bin set our for you to put them in... like I said previously- real cafateria-ish. Over all a pretty decent place. Bathrooms are out the door, down the hallway and to your right. Not very clean.

EXTERIOR: 3/5 (part of a popular strip mall on the southside. the strip mall also includes subway, a yogurt shop, a dry cleaner/tailor shop, etc. INTERIOR: 2.5/5 (it's by no means a super nice or bistro-like place, but it's also not the worst. It is a small space, and they offer booths or a few tables. They could definitely use a renovation to spruce it up. They do keep it clean though, and frequently wipe down tables after every customer leaves, though just with a rag, not with a cleaner or disinfectant) CUSTOMER SERVICE: 5/5 (note, every worker speaks Spanish and English. there are annoying customers--usually the local high schoolers or middle schoolers--who attempt to speak in broken Spanish to humor themselves. I always feel embarrassed for them. and they hold up the line) CLEANLINESS: 4/5 (their bathrooms are shared with a facility next door, but it is usually kept extremely clean. they also wipe down their booths frequently after customers leave with a cloth, but I'd prefer if they used disinfectant or Clorox every time). QUALITY OF FOOD: 3.5-4/5 TASTE OF FOOD: 5/5 ---------- **note: I rate each eatery relative amongst its type/range in THAT city. So, no, I'm not rating this restaurant compared to Crow's Nest or some Michelin-star restaurant. I rate it and analyze it's component qualities (above) from 1-5 compared to other restaurants with similar food type, aura, and price range. I ADORE this Mexican restaurant. I've had almost everything off the menu (haven't tried the soups). They make VERY authentic Mexican food. I like most their entrees (except for the enchiladas), all the desserts, the pico de gallo (it's free, all their sauces and "condiments" are), and horchata!! I LOVE horchata (a delicious and authentic soy-based Mexican drink). I've brought friends from California and Chicago here, and they all loved it as well. To top it off, they do have free wifi, yay! My Hispanic friend sometimes makes Mexican tacos for us; they're even better here! I'm a huge fan of their special tacos. I've tried it with fish, asada (steak), and lengua (tongue). They're all very good and tender renditions. I also like their carne asada. Their desserts and sides are TO DIE for. My favorite desserts are the bunuelos (sweet baked nacho dessert, with honey and cinnamon) and the fried ice cream (ice cream "breaded" with corn flakes, dipped in honey, and flash-fried). I love the serve-yourself sides, specifically their pico de gallo! It's very fresh, and I love I can get as much as I want. Also, this place is ok-priced. You can get a meal for around $14 or just the basics (no beans or rice) for around $9-11. Horchata is around $3. Desserts are around $3-4/each. I WOULD give 5 stars, but I feel there is slight room for improvement. - First, their "beef" enchiladas are not good. I've heard their chicken enchiladas are better than their beef, but they use terrible ground beef... it's not very good ground beef either. They're tiny, tiny round circles. Their beef enchilada is just meh, but I feel enchiladas are such a hallmark amongst customers, that it SHOULD be just as good as all their other food! - Second, this is a smaller gripe, but I feel their carne asada could be more tender. It's not completely hard, just not very tender. It's about medium. The carne asada costs about $14, so I'm not expecting like a filet mignon lol. But it's not like the carne asada is $6, either. I think they could use meat tenderizer before or while they marinade/etc. In the future, this place would be fantastic if it expanded and/or renovated with a "newer" look and acquired more modern-looking booths and seating. They need to expand/lengthen their condiments bar, as it's tiny, in a corner, and customers sometimes form a long line there (i.e. for sour cream, salsa, salsa verde, pico de gallo, peppers, etc). I also wouldn't mind paying more if they upgraded their carne asada and ground beef quality.

Anchorage doesn't have great Tex-Mex, this is as close and authentic as you get. Good food, super decent prices, quick service. Their catering is a great option as well.

This is where it's at. Once in a while I'll head over here with friends for some real good and filling enchiladas. The staff members are pretty hilarious too.

I am going to go out on a limb here, but taco king has the best mexican in alaska, or at least the closest to tasting like mexican. Secondly they are cheap, a combo their is like 5 or 6 bucks. Also it is real convenient for everybody that lives on the south side of anchorage, because they don't have to drive all the way in town. So if you are ever struggling to eat this is the place for you.

  • Tyler M.

Some of the best texmex I've ever had. It wouldn't go so far as to call it mexican food. Carlos's is more of a mexican place if your in the mood for authenticity. That being said the food at Taco King is cheap and really delicious. The service is usually good and fast. The prices are very reasonable. $7-9 bucks is usually the most you'll spend per person. Typically it is a busy joint and you'll run into someone you know. The one gripe I have is that the parking lot is rather small and often full.

  • Adam W.

The best Mexican food in anchorage. Both Tex-Mex and authentic choices. Your average plate will run you $7-10. I've never waited more than 5 minutes for my food. It has all the charm of a high school cafeteria though, so I advise on carry out or delivery.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
