The Ronnie roll is my favorite roll on the menu. Atmosphere is nice & prices are decent.

If you're in the Dimond corridor, this would be a good place for sushi. They have an extensive menu of rolls and sashimi, as well as appetizers, fried rice and sake. The hot sake was delicious and their gyzoga was the best I've ever had. I had a basic cali roll, which was pretty good but usually I like the exotic rolls. The menu breaks out cooked rolls vs uncooked, so it would be a great place for a first timer to try out several different kinds. Only complaint is that it's pretty darn expensive. I don't know if they have a happy hour, but I'd come back then for sure. Most of the specialty rolls are in the $12-14 range which can add up quickly. Service was sufficient.

This was my first meal in Alaska and I'm super impressed. Since I'll be in the area for a year, I plan on returning to this place. I got the combo with sesame chicken, shrimp/veggie tempura, and a crunch roll (basically a shrimp tempura roll). It comes on a large bento which was a pleasant surprise. The sesame chicken was a bit too sweet, but the assorted tempura was fantastic! It was very crisp and light. The crunch roll was pretty basic but solid. This place is pricey according to my Northern California standards (I think my combo was $18 while in NorCal is would have been probably $15), but everything in AK is pricey and the food is very tasty. Service was just fine (I've heard service is notoriously slow in AK), and when I left my credit card accidentally at the restaurant, they kept it and gave it back to me when I returned a couple days later.

We had a great experience at Sushi Ya! We were greeted at the front door hostess when we entered and promptly seated. The service was excellent; Our waitress made menu suggestions which was good advice. The decor is pleasant and the the restaurant has nice ambiance. The food quality is great and the portions are generous! I'm looking forward to the next meal at Sushi Ya!

this used to be my favorite sushi spot in anchorage. the staff recognized me when I walked in and always knew what I wanted to order. unfortunately due to my last visit, I will not be coming back. I went with a couple friends and was seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant. after being seated, given water and menus, they asked us to move to a different table because they had a larger party coming in "soon" in which they needed to push the two tables together. ok, we moved. we ordered. we waited over an HOUR for FOUR ROLLS of sushi and gyoza. typically this place is quick and friendly. not this time. the worst service I've received in anchorage. I will never go back. and btw, that large party they moved us for? didn't even show by the time we finished our meal. great job Sushi Ya.

Hubby and I were invited by friends for lunch. We're not too experienced with sushi, but love other Japanese food... I have to admit that I was apprehensive, at first. The decor is lovely and quaint and I was at ease almost instantly. Hard to believe this used to be a Taco Bell that I used to visit everyday in high school! Our friends ordered some yummy hot sake, which they shared with us. They ordered a bunch of different rolls , none of which I have any idea about, but it all looked delish. Hubs ordered the teriyaki chicken, and I had tempura shrimp. Both were scrumptious, and after only 4 days, we're craving it! Can't wait to go back and do some experimenting with some sushi.

Delicious! I rate a sushi place first on the quality of the miso soup, which was great. The noodle salad I got as an appetizer was very tart and light as well, great for this rare sunny day this summer. As for the sushi itself, I got a Boston roll (raw salmon with cucumber and avocado with green onion and smelt roe on top). There are more than three pages of gourmet, creatively-themed rolls to choose from. I don't even think they have basic tuna, salmon, or kappa on the menu. First time I deigned to eat smelt roe on my sushi too... was delish. Only complaint is the price. Last sushi I had was delicious, simple sushi in Vancouver, which got me 18-21 pieces for only $4.75 (Daikichi Sushi in Vancouver BC). Atmosphere was nice here tho and everything was fresh.

I always try to hit this place up when I'm in anchorage. They just did some remodeling inside. It's now more open and modern looking. They got rid of the booths which is nice and replaced tables with chairs. Their sushi is yummy. I love the miso soup, and salad that comes with the sushi. Service is prompt and friendly. They have two TV's so you can watch a game while your at the bar. This is a great sushi place to go to.

I've been eating here since 2003, it remains one of my go-to sushi restaurants. Recent renovations have improved the atmosphere. Rolls and sushi dinners are consistently good.

Man this hurts, I used to love this place and even had a VIP card. I ordered from here all the time. The last 3 times they have been extremely rude, and messed up my order horribly. Ive had to drive back to go and pick up missed items. Instead of giving it for free or at least offering a discount they are completely rude. Such a sad, sad thing to see. They changed the interior which is beautiful. But the attitude is awful. Will no longer be doing business with them.

The decor and the sushi are great here! It's a very intimate feeling atmosphere. The specialty rolls are great and so is the service. One of my favorite sushi spots in town.

I have visited Anchorage twice for business and both times I had dinner at Sushi Ya. The food is reasonably priced and you get a good portion for your money. I ordered the salmon teriyaki which comes with steamed veggies on the side, miso soup, side noodles, side salad and rice. I also ordered tuna nigiri and edamame - my dinner was all under $30. The salmon was a very large piece, I could not eat it all and was cooked perfectly and was not fishy. I will come again!

Love this place! When you first walk into a new restaurant you have high hopes for a spot to keep coming to and this place caught my attention so fast because the food is amazing! Portion's are great and the rolls are delicious! My husband ordered Bul Go Gi and it was HUGE, thick pieces of meat, very delicious and the Golden State roll was awesome. My 2 year old loves sushi and he tore it up! so 2 thumbs up for him eating majority of it! Anyway, best sushi spot so far since I moved here from California a couple of months ago. Though, not a big fan of the prices yet in the end, we did get our moneys worth so I didn't mind too much.(:

Sushi Ya had the best sushi I have had in a long time. The wasabi is the hottest of the last 4 sushi places i have eaten in Anchorage. The Ginger is so pure and tasty. Atmosphere is quiet and large booths allow privacy. Service is superb!

Used to go here regularly. Last time we waited for a frigging hour to get food, so that was it for me. Sushi was good but nothing it worth waiting for that long.

Good sushi but was surprised that a month later we were debited over $255.00 for our lunch. If they work this out with us successfully quickly I'll change this rating, but buyer beware....

Not a bad sushi spot. Would give it 3.5 stars, I just rounded up. They have happy hour all day so majority of all their rolls are $9.99 and under! I've only been able to try a few of their cooked rolls since I'm preggos. But they are pretty decent. My husband and I had a roll, dinner bento box & tempura fried ice cream--all for $30! That's the cheapest sushi meal I've ever had in Anchorage! I saw that even their sashimi dinners are about $18.99. Not bad at all. This is now one of our go to sushi spots!

My husband and I went here almost a year ago and we didn't like it back then. I remembered that the sushi rolls were smothered in sauces and that I was disappointed with the portions. I also remember that I ordered the Kalbi lunch special for $10 and it was three TINY pieces of meat. Fast forward to January 2015 - My girlfriend wanted to eat here for dinner and my experience was much better. So good that I've literally been here 3 times in the past week! Their Happy Hour Specials (all day, everyday) are pretty good. I am in love with the chicken fried rice ($9), the sunkissed roll ($10), and the tempura shrimp and veggies. They also have 4 pieces of gyoza for $3 so we normally order two of them to satisfy our appetites. Overall I am very happy that I gave this place a chance again.

Love this place one of my favorite sushi spots! I have been coming here for years they have an awesome assortment and wonderful staff. This place has been remodeled since the beginning and has made this place even more exciting lol and they finally brought back there 10 dollar rolls so win win :)

Standard sushi joint. Prices are nothing special and neither is the selection. Flavors were on point for the most part and the atmosphere was fine. We couldn't finish the last few pieces and decided to take them to go. My nephew ate a piece the next morning after being refrigerated all night and the following few days became violently ill. Now I'm aware taking sushi to go isn't a common practice, however it scared me that the fish was so close to turning in the first place. I've had day old sushi many times with no problems. Lesson learned. Nothing really against the restaurant. 3 stars.

All rolls 10 bucks or less with quality to match 90% of any other place in town. Very friendly sushi chefs and great service, I love coming here for lunch there fast, fresh, and soup, salad, noodles, roll for 10$..!? I'm lovin it.

Great place to eat only sushi they don't make anything else that good. The service was the worst they forgot to bring our desert and it was just fried Oreos which you would think was a simple task. They sushi took long to get which was annoying. Wouldn't be my first choice for sushi.

Always consistent. Great fresh oater appetizer. Japanese wine bar restraint jazz infused sushi joint. Clean inside and out attentive staff. Been here four time and am always happy

Great little sushi restaurant! They have a killer deal of $10 rolls and most of them are pretty yummy. They've got the basics down like California roll, crunch roll and etc however I'm only giving it 3 stars because their sashimi did not taste fresh. I was disappointed with their sashimi platter- better stick with rolls & jjambong (spicy noodle soup) next time i come back.

I continue to be disappointed by the lack of sushi in Anchorage. I cannot understand how these places get over like they do. I should be able to order by the piece (set a limit of four) and have yet to find it in Anchorage. I noticed most people order the rolls and the menu is heavy on rolls. Service was bad as well. Of anyone knows of a place where I can order by the piece please tell me.

The food was fabulous, especially the Cancun Sushi. We also had Chicken Fried Rice, which was a huge hit with our 6-year old granddaughter, Teriyaki Chicken & Seafood Spicy Noodle Soup. Prices were reasonable & the ambiance was great. Only complaint...service was a little slow. Will definitely return.

Came in on a whim for lunch on the 24th. I am a huge fan of their lunch menu and the happy hour lunch special. Super big deal. The prices on their rolls were equal to Carrs sushi, but with much higher quality. I will say the sushi sashimi lunch that came with california (or crunch roll) was very loose and fell apart. The sashimi was so fresh and well presented though. Lady helped me box up the leftovers too. Will come again. Tons of quality wine, and would have had a glass if it was later in the day.

Usually a go to place for good service and amazing food. Our last trip there was disappointing and we won't be back. After watching the couple that came in after us finish their desserts, and still not receiving our entrees, we decided to leave. It had been over 40 minutes and as we approached the register they basically told us to pay and wait for our order. Horrible customer service. Will not support this restaurant. Try Haru!

As small as it is.... They forget about you... We waited for a dessert that was never ordered because another waitress that came over tried to take our order when she totally forgot. Never going back.
(1)Kari R.
The sushi was good but not amazing. The service was terrible. Took 20 minutes for them to take our order. Then we were on our second course before I could flag down a server to ask where our drinks are. They finally came out but way too late.
(2)Jennifer T.
Definitely not the best sushi spot in Anchorage, but it's cute and clean. The servers are friendly but the food wasn't as filling as I would expect. Granted it is a sushi restaurant the portions are smaller than normal.

I love this place. The atmosphere, the people. This place remodeled a lot but this time they made it into a +wine bar. It definitely changed the atmosphere and I love it. (Can't stop saying that). I really think this look works so I hope they stick to it! :) The owners are the people behind the sushi bar making the sushi :) I love them. Haha. Anyways everytime I go here I am satisfied. The atmosphere is classy yet cozy. My favorite roll is the shrimp killer. Muhahaha :F definitely recommended for shrimp lovers like moi~ but yeah, it's definitely a really nice place to enjoy a nice meal by yourself or with the fam :)

Let's get a few things straight... DELISH food - very artistic, excellent decor and overall ambiance, very friendly staff who can't seem to serve the tiny restaurant! I don't understand why they can't serve maybe 9 tables between two servers. I received saki without a cup and couldn't get anyone's attention until I was done with my meal. I ordered a second roll and they didn't clear my empty plate, I ordered a soda twice and then had to wave someone down to get a refill, I asked for a roll to be made with regular tuna instead of spicy tuna and was informed that it was premade. ... ok... so? Guess it's too much to ask for a non-spicy hand roll. Also the tea tasted like stale tapwater with no flavor at all. Super friendly service, they just couldn't do anything right. Oh well... the food was a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach.
